Excellent delicious homemade salsa! Very good chicken tamales. A nice quiet place to have lunch.

This is a great place. The new manager / owner that took over about a year or so ago truly loves what he is doing. The service is personalized and the quality of my experiences has been very high. I default to the 'camarrones a la diabla' - a spicy shrimp dish in a Mexican red sauce. Do not leave without having a refreshing, made from scratch, michelada (or two). Will continue to patronize this establishment.

My suggestion is to avoid this eatery altogether. The food was bland, the location sketchy and the interior seemed unclean and was full of flies. There are a lot of other options for Mexican food in Salt Lake City and I would avoid this one like the plague.

Hole in the wall for sure. Friendly service. Relatively low price. Authentic Mexican. Lunch was great. Do not judge a book by its cover in this instance.

We went to La Taqueria Lolita as part of our SLC Dining group. It's a hole in the wall on 900 S and 300 W. The decor is unique. Lots of corrugated steel, Christmas lights (it's April) and Corona stuff. The food is good. Not knock your socks off great, but good. I had the enchilada yucatan, which pretty much tasted like any enchilada that is found along the Wasatch Front. My wife had the carnitas, and they were outstanding. Perfectly flavored, tender, with just the right amount of caramelized goodness on the pork pieces. I found out as we were leaving that they won Salt Lake Magazine's "Best of The Beehive" award for the Best Taco. I'll have to try them out the next time we go.

Need tires just step into Big O tires across the street and ask for Bruce and tell them Dan The Laptopman sent you. Then tell them to text you after your new tires are mounted that you just bought for the lowest price in town! While your waiting for your tires to get mounted walk across the street to this awesome hidden gem! This is not your average chop suey del taco cliche microwave oven flavored mexican restaurant. It's like being in Mexico on vacation and wandering off the path to a little spot where the locals eat! The fried Tilapia is insanely good! Watch for bones or you could hurt yourself. Order a Mexican Coke with that and eat 10 bowls of their amazing selections of salsa and chips and your set! Suddenly your you get a text from the boys at BIG O across the street "Your car is ready bro!" Mini Vacation to Mexico and fresh tires! 2 birds one stone! BOOM!

We are so glad we finally decided to try out La Taqueria Lolita. Red Iguana is our go-to, but honestly, this was fantastic. Their house made chips are fresh, thick and crunchy. The salsa is excellent with just the right amount of heat. Refried beans: delicious. Truly authentic flavors. Friendly service. Thanks Lolita!

I've driven past this place probably a few dozen times but I've never stopped until last weekend. Its a brightly colored hole in the wall taqueria located next to a Strip Club and now has a place behind it called Restaurant Lolita. Its probably safe to call it Lolita Corner at this point between its two neighbors. The restaurant is brightly colored a very overly decorated. There was a lot of effort put into making this place seem like a Nuevo Laredo Taqueria and honestly they've done a good job with the look. Aside from whatever you may think about the decorations, the place is very clean which is much appreciated. The dining room was well taken care of and the kitchen, which is open to the dining room, is also well taken care of. I had a combination plate with Chile Relleno, Tamale and Carnitas Taco with rice and refried beans on the side. The Chile Relleno was stuffed with cheese and fried in an egg batter that was awesome. They egg batter has a great taste that made the offering better than your average relleno. The tamale is your average tamale, not terribly memorable but the mazza to meat ratio was good. With the carnitas taco the meat was a touch dry, but the pork did have a great flavor. In addition to the plated food there was a great little salsa bar. It had a few different choices of salsas for the chips. The variety of choices on the salsa bar was appreciated, the cups were a little small but that seems to be something you see most places with the salsa bars. The location may be a tad sketchy and there's potentially a language barrier but the food is worth the risk. If you want a great authentic taqueria experience Taqueria Lolita is your spot.

The place is clean and the food is good. I always get the Chili Verde or the Pollo Mole plate and have never been disappointing. The chips and salsa are great and the service is great too. You can even get a beer.

I'm fairly certain Lolita is under new management/ownership in the past few years. No longer a slightly-sketchy dive, it now tries very hard to appeal to the gringo. No hints of lengua, cabeza, or tripas on the menu. Lots of cheese and canned beans. My carne enchiladas weren't beyond awful, but the better half's chimichanga was putrid. Boiled, tough chicken breast swimming in a sea of unseasoned cheese and dried up, reheated rice. Service was pretty terrible, and seemed quite rushed to get us out the door two hours to closing time. Never again.

This restaurant looks like it was moved right over the border from Mexico. I is much smaller inside then it looks from the outside and not much more comfortable. They will serve you a very small basket of chips and even smaller thing of salsa that you will have to refill your self. The food that they serve was nice and defiantly cheap enough that I may stop by again if in the neighborhood.

I have driven by this place a million times on 300 West. I always wanted to try it and finally did. I have long based all my Mexican reviews on how good their chile verde is. It was good with lots of pork in it. I loved that they had a salsa bar! When I see a salsa bar and can't wait to see what they have. I really appreciated that two of the salsas had a good amount of spice to them. I will definitely be back to try this place again.

This is a somewhat seedy looking place next door to a strip club. I'm sure the name "Lolita" is no mistake. I got the enchiladas mole, and the problem with me ordering mole in SLC is I will always be compare it to Red Iguana. Compared to Red Iguana, the mole was subpar. But if I were to not use them as a barometer, it was pretty decent food. I'd really like to go back and try something else. Most of the people in my group seemed to really like the food, and the service was great.

This was my first time here so I played it safe and got a chimichanga. The meat was good but my favorite part was the tortilla. It wasn't to thick and it had just the perfect crunch. It came with your usual beans and rice. The nice part is their salsa bar. yummers!

Great owner and friendly service. Nice little sit down joint with fun decor. I'm not a fan of the horchata, it's the more redhot cinnamony flavor if you know what I mean. And gritty. But the chile relleno was fantastic, and a steak and egg made fresh one morning, not even on the menu. That's the service I love about this neighborhood spot. I'll keep going until I try the whole menu, then I might come back to do it again.

Wow! Another great little hole in the wall! One day I was once again wondering what to eat for lunch between client appointments to show homes and I drove by this place on my way back from Glendale into SLC. This restaurant has been around for a while and over the last few years they have been doing some pretty cool updating to both the interior and exterior of the place. Lots of corrugated steel and funky cantina type decor. The setting is nice enough and a bit like your standard hole in the wall, but it is all very clean and well kept. The service was gracious, fast and well delivered, but the English is very limited, which is just fine with me. On this visit I tried the Cuban Sandwich. It was AMAZING! i had mine with Todos! Refried Beans, Ham, Cheese, jalapenos, etc...... It was properly messy and tasted great. The papas fritas were also perfect. Nicely fried, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I have not had an opportunity to try everything on the menu here, but here is the feedback from the City Weekly Best of Guide... "BEST FRIED SNOW La Taqueria Lolita Next door to strip club Trails, Lolita is the best kind of hole-in-the-wall. The salsa's picante, the chimichanga lightly fried, the salad fresh, the tacos crispy. But, while many other hole-in-the-wall establishments abandon dessert as unworthy of attention, Lolita proves the sweet is as important as the salty. Lolita's traditional nieve frita--fried snow--features ice cream rolled in sultanas and sugary rice cereal, sitting on a base of fried dough with liquid chocolate drizzled over the top. Whether it's Trails' influence or just the cook's enthusiasm for sinful treats, this is one dessert not to be missed.909 S. 300 West, 364-4123"

We have eaten at Lolita three times. We like the cleanliness and improvements in appearance they have made, but we have had mixed experiences with the food. The first time we ate there the food was excellent. The second time the enchiladas were really bad, about what I come up with for a quick Saturday lunch of canned sauce, stale tortillas, cheese and a microwave. We stayed away for over a year, but finally decided to give it another try, thinking maybe the cook was off the previous visit. Unfortunately our food on the recent visit was so greasy that my wife couldn't eat any of her meal and I almost ruined the excellent beans and rice on mine when, in taking a bite of a taco, a few ounces of grease dripped down on them. Maybe next year we'll try it again . . .

I give it 5 stars bc my food was very very good. I had the carnitas and they were perfect. I liked everything about the meal. I don't know if everything on the menu gets 5 stars but the carnitas definately do. The horchata was ok. It tasted like it was from a mix but that's ok I'll just get the pineapple drink thing next time. That was yummy. I think it's sketchier on the outside than inside. I'll go back and get the carnitas.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
