Chinese Cuisine
The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.
Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.
There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.

Ordered broccoli beef lo mein and an egg roll. Pick up was fast and ready. Portions big. Egg roll was very large and delicious, almost seems like it was dipped in batter. Lo mein came with carrots and mushrooms and was yummy. All you expect for quick Chinese :)

Good stuff! I like the fact they deliver. I love the fact they have their menu on their website, which makes ordering easy. I always get the General Tso's Chicken and it is always pretty spicy, which I love! Portion sizes are huge, so you will have leftovers. We've ordered a few times, and it is in my top three Chinese places in SLC.

Fast, good food for a great price!

I've eyeballed this place a few times while out running errands and finally took the plunge. I ordered General Tso's chicken and some chicken Lo Mein; they were a little pricey, but when considering the size of the portions it's pretty reasonable. I ate about half of each and will definitely have some good leftovers. The only bad thing about the Lo Mein was that there was mushrooms in it, but they were big enough chunks that I could easily eschew the fungus. I really liked the flavor of the lo mein, all too often lo mein is very bland and this had some nice full-flavoredness to it. The General Tso's chicken wasn't very spicey, but just enough to let you know what was going on. The combo of the two dishes worked really well, in my opinion. The service was pretty good, too. I was helped at the counter very quickly and told that my order would take 10-15 minutes. When I was told that I thought it was a bit excessive, but barely 5 minutes later I had my food and was on my way to walking the 3 blocks home.

Gross. Some of the worst Chinese food we've had. The General Tso chicken comes with a bland, sweet & sour type of sauce. We called because we thought the order was wrong, but they assured us that this is how they make General Tso. In addition, the delivery guy tried to rip us off by telling us our order was $2 more than it was. First and last time we'll be ordering from them.
(1)Amper P.
Seems to be typical Chinese takeout. Best part is they deliver, which can be tough to find in SLC.
(3)Ameilia Q.
This place is hit and miss. Has some consistently great dishes the kiddos will like (lemon chicken) and some good dishes I like (house lomein, potstickers, and garlic chicken). The delivery and service is also hit and miss- sometimes within 30 min and sometimes 2 hours. They have good size portions and don't skimp on the rice as some other downtown 'gormet' Chinese places do. Not great Chinese food but good enough Americanized Chinese food and you should have enough for leftovers for breakfast.
(3)Michael A.
I've been having Canton Village deliver Dinner B to me since the beginning of time. It is consistently good, always delivered when promised, and enough food for 3 people, not just 2.
(4)Stephanie Y.
Below average. When I called to see how late they were open, the girl was pretty put out but assured me if I ordered soon, they'd stay open long enough to give me my order but refused to say the standard time. I ordered delivery which probably came within the hour but only because we caught the delivery boy next door trying to deliver to the wrong address. Food is not great. Edible, with soy sauce etc but not delicious by any stretch of the imagination. Pretty bland, hard to screw up ham fried rice but they managed. Will only order from here if desperate for take out with zero options.
(2)Kenny H.
It's your average ghetto takeout. It's jam packed with oil & MSG. The bonus is it delivers to those of us that are having a hard time walking. 1.) Chicken lo mein. Not sure if they offer the option of very little oil, but if they do get it. The noodles were swollen with oil. The flavor was average, nothing special and the chicken was somewhat moist. Probably the oil. 2.) Ham fried rice. Dry, like chewing on sheets of blotter paper. Very little flavor but nothing a bucket o' soy sauce can't cure. 3.) Chicken. There was more breading than meat. Dry and oily but as expected. 4.) Jumbo shrimp. Same as the chicken but they're tastier with the mustard sauce that they come with. 5.) Egg rolls and spring rolls. Not to much of a difference in taste here. Only size... They're your average deep fried treat. All in all, average as one should expect for prices and type of food. The sauces are you're average/too sweet glazes (sweet & sour and lemon were tried). The spicy mustard sauce was my favorite. The people were friendly and delivery was fast.
(3)Christopher T.
Completely disappointed! We have been ordering from here for 11 years. Things had been so very good in the beginning years. Much to our disappointment the service is just not what it used to be.....waited 1.5 hours after calling twice after our order online and nothing. If your hungry, don't rely on getting your order anytime soon.

Ok so I grew up in Brooklyn, New York in the 60s and 70s when every neighborhood had a Cantonese joint like this. And I have to warn you that I'm a massive Chinese food junkie who basically believes that Chinese food (along with pizza and BBQ) is like sex- even when bad they're pretty good. Places like this are worse than nothing to look at; you'd never dream of eating your food here. It's all about take out and I'm in from out of town and looking for take out. I'm undaunted - I don't mind a little seedy as long as sanitary. I'm taking it back to the hotel so I won't have to take in the lack of ambience for too long. Counter staff were sweet -a young trainee was a little overwhelmed by the computer but they didn't even have computers the last time I was in a place like this. So I think revert to childhood - order the old neighborhood style Cantonese - chow mein, paper wrapped chicken - which were very tasty and like I remember from childhood. Because I'm watching my weight I ordered a small hot and sour which is not Cantonese and was the weakest though passable element. Won ton would have been carbier but I'm sure better. Many reviewers like the egg rolls and I bet they're great - that's what places like this do well. I enjoyed this food when eating it alone in my room. I could imagine being more critical and perhaps even a little mean-spirited about it if I were eating it with someone - but in the end it was filling, tasty, quick, reasonably priced and enjoyable. I must admit I was scared by the reviews I read before getting the food and in the end I can say I could see both what people liked and didn't like about it. If you are a Chinese food freak like me get some old school Cantonese and dig in.

Okay, so I hate to leave a negative review, but I'm going to have to do it here. Their website states a 45 minute delivery time, and I wish it was anywhere close to that. The first time I ordered, I waited for about an hour and a half, finally called in and they said they "didn't see the order come across" and they rushed it and I got it about half an hour later. I wrote that off as a mistake and it wasn't a big deal. I tried again today, when I ordered I learned from my previous mistake and called in immediately after I placed the order and he confirmed he received the order. I then waited for an hour, no delivery yet, I called and was told that it was on its way. Now it's been an hour and 45 minutes, and still no food. I'm located two blocks from the restaurant... The food is decent, serving sizes are good, price is good, but do NOT get delivery from them, it's an absolute joke.
(2)Dan A.
Do NOT order the General Chicken.. I did and got a call back to make sure I knew it was "spicy", I received bright red/orange chicken, tasted it and its sweet and sour chicken.. Called and asked them, was told that is their general chicken.. Sweet and sour with a little spice.. They must have forgot the spice.. If your not going to make general chicken then don't freaking say you do.. If I could get my money back I would.. Every person I can convince to go somewhere else is nothing short of my duty... I mean WTF?!?
(1)Jo S.
I was pleased! It was so much fresher than I remember! I vowed to not eat there ever again after a bad experience 5 years ago. Now, it's the only place I will order delivery from. I used the convenient on-line ordering. Simple and convenient. (We received sweet and sour chicken instead of pork. Glitch? Chicken was on the receipt, pork was on the order confirmation.) I ordered Special Lo Mien. It was FULL of stuff. Good stuff from shrimp to pork, broccoli to noodles that were perfectly cooked with just enough sauce. We also ordered the Orange Chicken. BEST! Leaps better than Panda. Quality breast chicken. Order came earlier than expected.
(4)Siobhan J.
Unfortunately it wasn't the best chinese food I've ever had. I got it because they delivered to my area downtown but the shrimp egg foo young wasn't good I don't know what type of breading they used or why... it should just be an omelette. The fried rice was dry and the spare ribs were okay.
(1)Matt D.
Bottom line. Bad Chinese food. On the evening when you need a little Chinese food comfort, save yourself the disappointment and have a bowl of lucky charms.
(1)Izzy L.
I'd rather eat panda express. This place is that bad. I've tried this place a few times and I've only gotten more and more disappointed each time. The food is just extremely distasteful. It's bland, soggy, drenched in sauce and so much more. It's just so rare to find good Chinese in Salt Lake City, and this place only adds to the dilemma.
(1)Jeff W.
This is my goto for Asian take-away. Consistently great food.
(3)Sarah J.
The worst Chinese delivery in SLC, hands down. Horrible service!!! I ordered online and waited for over an hour. I then called to check the status and was told the order just got rang in so it would be another 45 minutes. I asked if I could cancel the order and the employee made a sigh noise that came off as if he was annoyed and continued to say it would be 45 minutes. I eventually agreed, said thanks and continued to wait. After another 45 minutes went by I called again. The employee then said he thought I canceled the order so it would be another 45 minutes. At this point I said forget it and gave up on getting Chinese that night. Don't waste your time. They don't care about their bad customer service and they practically encourage you to take your business elsewhere.
(1)Taryn N.
I ordered delivery and it only took about 30 min. Great timing! Although it was a Sunday afternoon at 3pm...so I can't say how it would be at dinner or lunch time. I ordered the hot and sour soup, kung pao chicken and house special lo mein. Came to $27 before tip. The soup was pretty good. Could have been spicier. The Kung pao and lo mein were pretty good too. (Kung pao could have been spicier too.) I can't rave about it, but it did the trick for me because I didn't feel like going out. I would order delivery again but if I was going out (as opposed to delivery) I would most likely choose something else. If you like spicy, ask for chili oil, paste or sriracha.
(3)Michael B.
This is the worst Chinese food I have ever had in my life! Anybody who rates this more than two stars obviously has never had good Chinese food. I just moved here from Portland, OR and even the worst Chinese food there at half the price was better than this. If you have taste buds, stay away!!!
(1)Dre K.
If you're the type that likes getting crappy food delivered because you don't want to leave the house, then Canton Village is passable. Still not good, but passable. I am not that type and I do not patronize Canton Village. I did though, on two occasions. I had Kung Pao the first time, and I am not exactly sure what the second thing was, probably because some part of my brain rightfully chose to block it from memory. Unfortunately, what I had not been able to block from memory was their egg flower soup. It looked like egg-flavored boiled water, and I just could not bring myself to eat it. The chicken tasted like Panda Express minus half the flavor, plus chewy, and not in a good way. Canton Village is actually more expensive than Panda, which would kind of blow my mind if I didn't understand exactly why that is the case. Canton advertises free delivery, but in reality, delivery is just included in the price of their food. In other words, if you are getting take-out, you are also paying for delivery, which is essentially a scam. But hey, if you just really do not feel like leaving the house, are craving Chinese and would not mind consuming sub-par, overpriced food, you may want to keep Canton Village in mind.

Wish I could give them less than one star at this point. I have been here before and it seemed like they are generally good service and nice people but I just had the worst experience of all time with customer service. I placed an order that amounted to $45 and had it set for delivery. Upon delivery we realized that some of our order was missing. This is not a big deal usually, as they would just bring it out/credit us. Unfortunately that is not the case with this restaurant. According to the man I spoke with on the phone, who is also their delivery man, the policy of their owner is to automatically assume that the customer is lying to them or scamming them in some way. I repeatedly told him that I was not trying to scam him but that we honestly did not get our complete order. Why would I tip them and pay $45 only to turn around and try and scam them in some way? The delivery man said that this is their policy and they get a lot of complaints so I asked them if their complaints are specifically about this policy and he said yes. (Maybe change your policy then??) The delivery man even agreed that the policy is ridiculous. After spending 20 minutes on the phone (mostly with silence coming from the other end as the guy "did not know what to say") I decided it was no longer worth it. I would definitely caution against giving these people your business. Their food is OK (though probably overpriced for the quality of it) but if your order is messed up you will be stuck with paying for stuff that you don't receive. I will be filing a complaint with the BBB as well, but hopefully you stay away from this place on the basis of their abysmal business policies.

It's fine not super great but they deliver which is really the biggest bonus cause I can only get two things delivered in SLC, pizza or this. and if you order at the right time delivery is super fast like I wasn't done writing this review and it was here! jumbo shrimp good overly battered sometimes genral tso's beef or chicken med spicy its fine egg rolls battered fried pretty good ribs with sauce ok mixed vegetables with rice eh pretty saucy and watered down avoid if they wanted to improve things ingredients could be fresher I suppose maybe calm down on the saucing
(3)Colton H.
Typical local Chinese joint. If you're looking for gourmet Chinese this probably isn't your spot. It's good, cheep, and has great service.. I'd go again.
(3)Ian S.
Everything I look for in cheap, NYC-style Chinese takeout. Friendly folks, food saturated with MSG, meat of an ambiguous background... I'm a fan! The Kung Pao Chicken was probably too spicy for most folks in the valley but I absolutely loved it. AND IT WAS EVEN BETTER THE NEXT DAY! Will be coming back here for all my future Chinese cravings.

My life would not be complete without a decent Chinese take-out near my home. I've lived in the Avenues, in apartments in the heart of downtown, and now on Capital Hill. Canton Village has been my family's standard for a quick and delicious take-home Chinese meal for many years. They are incredibly efficient, and they have never once screwed up an order. They pack the food in sturdy containers and staple it all shut in an even sturdier brown paper sack. No spills. However, not all dishes at Canton Village are created equal. Some favorites are Mu Shu Pork, Orange Chicken, Szechwan Beef, Pork Lo Mein, and Vegetable Tofu. They make really good wontons, and an above average Hot and Sour Soup. And I never place an order without adding a couple of their juicy, gaint egg rolls. They are fantastic. I'm not a fan of their Sweet and Sour dishes, the Lemon Chicken, or their Fried Shrimp, which I would guess are made with baking powder in the batter, which makes them too doughy and puffy. I prefer a more golden and crunchy batter on these dishes. Overall, I am a big fan of this place. Whenever we are in the mood for a cozy evening of Chinese food and Netflix, and I'm not in the mood to cook, It's comforting to know that Canton Village is always on my speed-dial.
(4)Aditi H.
Its not great food but they deliver so its worth a shot. The soup was far too salty for me, but the tofu dish decent Never had problems with delivery-always around within 45 mins.
(2)Leah S.
Worst.... Chinese I've ever had....... tried them twice and disappointed both times. This last time I had egg flower soup, which I thought was impossible to make disgusting, but was proven wrong. 50% grease and 50% water, NO flavor, NO vegetables in it, just the grease, water and egg floating around in there...Yikes I can't wait til Indochine opens back up...
(1)Kyle K.
Tasty "standard" Chinese fare. Great eggrolls. Good delivery. Way better than the other Chinese nearby (yes, I'm talking about YOU Asian Isle.) I think it deserves better than the 3 1/2 aggregate review.
(4)Jessica C.
I sorta hate myself for going here. Don't do it. Mushy and bland. Soupy and watery. Sticky and syrupy.
(1)Valerie Y.
Whenever I have a craving for Chinese take-out, I always think of Canton Village. They have all the classic (americanized) Chinese dishes, and it's really good overall. The prices are great since the portion sizes are large and I always have leftovers. It certainly isn't gourmet, but it consistently meets my expectations and satisfies my Chinese food cravings. I especially like the sesame chicken, pork fried rice, sweet and sour chicken, and egg drop soup. They offer take-out and delivery. Delivery is usually within 45 minutes, with only a $12 minimum order and no delivery fee beyond a tip, and always arrives still hot.
(4)Lindsay H.
We just ordered from Canton Village for the first time and had it delivered. Delivery took about 45 minutes on a Monday evening. I was craving a good fried rice with barbecued pork, so their pork fried rice seemed to fit the bill. My husband ordered sesame chicken, which came with the standard ham fried rice that is offered with everything -- however it was an up charge to get fried rice instead of steamed. The sesame chicken tasted, in my husband's words, "like old vinegar" and was heavily battered and fried, something we've found frequently in Salt Lake Chinese establishments (and that I really don't care for). The ham fried rice was decent, an acceptable side item. The pork fried rice, however, was disappointingly flavorless, even with soy sauce added. They used the type of pork that I like, that red stuff that's usually full of flavor, but somehow there was just no flavor to it at all. The egg rolls are massive, and I'd give them alone 3 stars, but 2 is all I can give the restaurant as a whole. Good sized portions for the price, but the flavor (and my preference for minimal or no batter on meat) will keep us from going back.
(2)Caryn A.
I live downtown and tonight I was hungry. Many times I've just gotten chinese food from the harmon's hot bar and it isn't very good. I stumbled across this little gem and IT's ON MY BLOCK of residence! Under $10 for orange chicken (came with white rice). Freakin delicious and I have left overs for tomorrow. Definitely need to stay away from things I know and try to just stumble across local places in SLC.
(5)Levi W.
You can't go wrong with canton village, especially for the price. Huge portions, so prepare for leftovers, but I absolutely love the egg rolls.
(4)Ashley S.
Portions are gigantic. GIGANTIC!
(4)Melanie A.
Canton Village is the best! I've been ordering from them for years now, way back before they offered delivery! The wonton soup is the best I've ever had. The food is never greasy, always has great flavor and arrives steaming hot! I am never worried to venture out of my chinese food "safety zone" because everything on the menu is up to the standard. Seriously eat there at least once a week!
(5)Shon H.
The Best part about Canton Village is the delivery. They deliver, not the fastest but the food is always warm, and delightful. Except for the Sweet and Sour Sauce, which always tastes a bit Metallic and Gross to me. However, their dishes are really good, their egg rolls are probably the best in town. But if you want Lo Mein instead of rice in a combo, be prepared to pay. Other than that, I would recommend it as the best Chinese Delivery in Salt Lake City.
(3)Ricky F.
A+ Made a mistake and totally made up for it. Will be back again
(5)Kris B.
Quick and easy take out open on a Sunday
(3)D N.
Rude front end service. Horrible food. I got the General Tso's chicken which tasted like a Nast sweet and sour sauce with a bit of Tobasco. By the time I got to the bottom of the sticky drenched chicken, it was so soggy it was inedible. Save your money and go somewhere else.
(1)Ashley B.
A few weeks ago my hubby and I participated in the Undie Run (OK, not really, we just stood on the sidelines, watched, took pictures, and had people yell "Creepy!" at us.) We went on to the Royal Bliss concert afterwords and although we drank before we came (we rode bicycles by the way, no one in our party was operating any heavy machinery, motorized vehicles, or all terrain vehicles, fyi), we also had a few beers at the concert. By the end of Royal Bliss's free sweet concert, I decided that I needed food, and NOW, before I get to the point on puking and spinning and passing out in the middle of the Galivan Center. Granted I may not have participated in the undie run, but if I pass out here, I will probably wake up naked. My ever-so-sweet husband knows a place that he thinks is open. Enter Canton Village. We get on our bikes and somehow make it to this little restaurant. I, in my drunken happiness, actually ran into the exterior restaurant wall with my bicycle, which was pretty outstanding at the moment. And really, I probably would have done that sober as well. Coordination is not on my 'things I can do' list. Me running into walls really has no effect on my review, but I still think it's funny. Anyways, I think we got there at like 1 am, and they were open! Really, It just felt like 1 am since I was plowed, but I guess it was more like 10:30. But still - they were open! I slur my order to the Chinese lady: Crab Rangoon, Hot and Sour Soup, Orange Chicken, Ham Fried Rice, Beef with Vegetables, Fried Jumbo Shrimp, and Garlic Shrimp. I turn to my husband and ask "What are you going to have?" The lady writes it down, and I practice my Mandarin and say "Shay shay ni" to which she replies "Your welcome." This excites me, and proves my point that I am a much better foreign language speaker when I am drunk, than sober. I am also quite excited that anyone will put up with my drunken ass long enough to take my order. Score one for the Cantonese lady!! We wait outside with the bikes, since the homeless seem to eyeball our bikes all the time and also seem to pace around us waiting for us to leave them unlocked. We wait about ten minutes, beating off only three homeless men. The lady brings our order out to us and seems to look at me like "Thank you for not puking in my store." We somehow make it home with Chinese food intact. I rip into the boxes and load up my plate with the different foods that smell like I probably died on the bike trip home and I am now in heaven. The food is awesome. Everything is piping hot (even though the bike ride home was like an eternity with my pedaling + drinking capabilities) Crab Rangoons (my favorite) melt in my mouth. Shrimp is crispy with the great cocktail sauce. Orange chicken so good, chickens would eat their dead friends with joy. Beef and vegetables and the Garlic shrimp I just want to make a little pillow out of and sleep on them so they can comfort me at night. I know I am sloshed out of my gourd and this could be why this seems to be the best Chinese I have eaten ever. I would like to go back to the Canton Village, hug the cook, give him a big fat kiss, and ask him to adopt me so I can come to family dinners. But ALAS, the next day for lunch I reheated my leftovers for lunch and I still would pillage a village for this tasty goodness. And yes I'm sure I had already had a couple drinks by the time I ate lunch, but it was only noon and I usually don't get hammered until about two. I see now that they have delivery and I have run around my neighborhood twice while writing this, to shout about how awesome Canton Village is and that they will deliver to all my neighbors. I'm hoping this works so I can invite myself over if I see the delivery car arrive on my street somewhere. Will go back (often!), and will order delivery (especially since I don't remember how to get there). Yummers!!!

My hubby and I first tried Canton Village a few weeks ago when we had a Sunday afternoon hankering for stir fry. We ordered both the chicken & pork with broccoli because we both dig broccoli, and we wanted something simple. The broccoli and carrots were cooked just right--not overdone. The sauce was mild, salty, and slightly sweet. The meat was tender. Everything looked and tasted very fresh. The portion sizes were a great value for the price--enough to have leftovers for each of us. We have since gone back a few times. The service is friendly and fast. Call ahead, and they have your take-out order ready in under 15 minutes (usually even faster than that). You can eat in, too. I noticed several tables in a room adjacent to the cash register and order counter. They also deliver. If you shy away from "hole in the wall" joints, this is not the place for you. It is definitely not fancy. Is it authentic? Probably not. But it is fresh, good Asian comfort food at a good price.
(4)Kathy P.
Was looking for a good Chinese food place with delivery, and this is it! I had the sweet and sour chicken (my standard) and my friend had the garlic pork. He quite enjoyed that dish; said it was tasty and spicy. My chicken was quite good as well. The food arrived hot and the delivery guy was very nice. I'll be ordering from Canton Village again.
(4)Derick D.
Just ordered this again tonight... Last time was amazing and I figured I'd try twice before leaving a review... Fast deliver.. super good food... Delivery guy was nice also... Will always order Chinese from here going forward...
