I came here with my husband and two kids (ages six and nine). One of the positive sides to this place is that you can order things individually. The burritos are all the same price (about five dollars) and you choose your meat. If you want beans or rice you have to order them separately and they are &1.50 each. This place is really authentic because, in addition to the grilled chicken and steak and the chorizo, you can also get beef tongue, cheek or tripe. I ordered two mulitas which were basically a small corn tortilla sandwhich for 1.75 each. The meat was really good other than a couple of chewy pieces. I didn't get any cheese on it because I don't eat dairy. My husband and daughter got burritos with grilled steak. My husband thought it was a little bland and my daughter liked hers except the meat was a little spicy. (She is nine and ate about half of it) my son got chips and salsa (age six). It came with a big plate of chips and a chunky salsa) I ordered a side if beans and my husband ordered a side of rice and beans. They had a big pot of pinto beans (not refried) at the salsa bar. If we had realized they had beans there we would not have ordered beans on the side. ( the beans that you order are refried with cheese on top). I basically filled up on beans from the salsa bar because my mulitas were not very big. (The corn tortillas that they make them with are a lot smaller than the ones you buy in the store). My son topped off his meal with a cream filled churro which he really liked. Over all it was pretty good but I would prefer cafe rio or costa vida because I prefer salads and more meat free options.

By far best Mexican in town! Tasty, authentic.. You have to try their tongue taco... No really. You will love it! Their salsa is awesome. I love their sweet and spicy avocado salsa! Not a big variety of food, but if you want cheap great tasting authentic Mexican you have to try this place.

Who knew there was Mexican food this good in Utah? I have been a couple times now and have been really happy with the experience. Inside has plenty of tables and a salsa bar. The tacos are only $1.35 which blows my mind. I have had carne asada tacos, mulitas, and burritos and the flavor, taste, and texture of the carne asada has been consistent. The flour tortilla they use for the cheese quesadilla is one of the best flour tortillas I have ever had. The tortillas are made fresh in the restaurant daily. I'm not a huge al pastor fan however my wife is and really likes it from here. I noticed they have the al pastor on one of those rotisserie spits and the meat did look for spinning around. On Tuesdays the al pastor tacos are half price too. I tried the chorizo taco on my last visit and thought it was so so. I wanted to spoil my dog Brownie so I asked for a side of carne asada to go and they wrapped some up in foil no charge. Nice! If your passing through or live in the area this is a place you really should check out. There isn't a drive thru which I would love but you can call your order in for take out if you are on a time limit or just don't want to wait since they make it all fresh.

Our family loves tacos. It's hard to find a good authentic taco. We loved it here, it exceeded our expectations!!

I've been eating here for a few years and I love it. The al pastor is the sweet variety. When I heard that, I wasn't sure that I would like it, but it has been my favorite. The chorizo and cabesa are also great. Look for the torta, mulitas, and burrito al pastor.

Best authentic Mexican I've had anywhere; inexpensive and a great selection, El Coyote Charro is an amazing stop if you're going through St. George on your way to Vegas, or a great place to go out for lunch if you're local to St. George. I'd recommend the Carne Asada Burrito, a side of Chips and Salsa, and a tall cup of Horchata to wash it all down.

Had chicken and Carne Asada tacos. Cooked perfectly. Seasoning was very flavorful but not overpowering. Salsa selection and condiments were perfect compliments to tacos. Very clean inside and pleasant staff.

Love this place! I got the carne asada burrito with chips and salsa. ¡Wowza! After not having Mexican food for 6 months this was the perfect meal to curb my craving. If only I'd seen they have lengua! Next time.

Yum yum yum Arabia everything we had was excellent the carna Asada fries were fun different and delicious and you get beans with every order. I highly recommend this restaurant if you are in the st George area

The food here is AMAZING! My family have gotten their burritos and the Carne Asada Fries, and only one word properly describes, "Delicious!" To me some of the most authentic and mouth watering Mexican food I have ever had! The meat that they use is of top notch quality! For the most part very affordable and portion sizes are generous!

  • Steve B.

I'd give them 4 stars for the food and friendly service. The food was great and a good value for the money. One basket of chips and salsa is plenty. But the chips I didn't think were anything special. The only reason I dropped to 3 stars was no bathroom. Maybe you could go through the kitchen, but that seems awkward.

This place was good overall. We had the french fries (papas?) al pastor and a carne azada torta. The torta was very good although pretty dang spicy for just a nomal torta. Great flavor. The french fries were ok, but I was expecting a little more flavor. You can also get some descent salsas from the salsa bar.

Cheap, greasy, no frills Mexican. This place is great! They have a tiny menu (only a few choices) but some unique eats. They even have both tongue and cheek! I had the tacos with carne asada meat and the quesadillas. Super greasy but delicious! I also love their salsas. Definitely a good place if you want cheap authentic Mexican food.

Love the tacos al pastor and their quesadillas. They have a great salsa bar and home made juice. The pineapple is my favorite.

Great pricing, great food, authentic tastes. My goto place for quick tasty Mexican in this side of town. Only issue is no bathrooms in the place, they are about 50 yards off in the shopping centers common

Having recently spent a little time road-tripping along the coasts of Baja (MX) feasting on amazing local food, I was sure none of the mexican food in the states would be able to compare and had been sticking to other cuisines. But then I got the craving for some 'street' tacos (and horchata, of course). So I took to Yelp, browsing the list of mexican restaurants in St. George with the hope of finding something that stood out as 'hole in the wall' good. In the end, I decided on El Coyote Charro -- swayed by the positive reviews and plentiful photos of their delicious looking food. My partner and I went just before lunch time -- around 11:30ish am. The place was pretty empty at that time, though quickly began to fill up with the, largely hispanic, local lunch crowd. It was packed around noon. The restaurant itself is pretty modern-looking and possesses a certain 'mexibro' bar-feel. The menu is painted on a brightly colored yellow wall -- easy to read, with descriptions of the food and actual prices. Clever. There's ample seating too -- enough for large groups and/or families, but solo/paired diners can find their quiet spot too. Everything in the dining area was bright, colorful and clean. Napkins and other eating utensils were well-stocked, as was the amazing salsa bar. There you can load up on fresh salsas such as verde and rojo, as well as nab freshly chopped onions, cilantro, radishes, and warm pinto beans to accompany your meal. Yum. Service at this place is sort of cafeteria-style, in that you order at the front, you're given a number, and then your food is brought to you. The young girl at the register was friendly and all smiles when we ordered -- she spoke English and Spanish, so ordering was simple (I ordered completely in English) and may be less intimidating for those who get nervous/anxiety when there's a language barrier. As for the food? I started off with 2 small tacos al pastor (pork). These are more popularly known as 'street' tacos or just the 'regular' tacos you tend to find in Mexico itself. It consists of 2 small corn tortillas, grilled, marinated pork and pineapples (YES!). I added diced white onions, cilantro, and salsa from the bar (they leave that part to you). How were they? These things were amazing -- it's like I was right back in Guerrero Negro (Baja Cali Sur). The pork was well-cooked yet juicy, rich in earthy flavors/spices, and with a nice kick that was mellowed out by the grilled pineapple chunks. The tacos were immediately followed by a single mulita de pollo (chicken). The mulita kind of resembles a tiny quesadilla to me -- it's 2 small corn tortillas (the same size as used for the small tacos) sandwiching a filling of melted queso and grilled, smokey chicken breast chunks. Adorned with a little drizzle of salsa verde, the simple little mulita was surprisingly good and something I wished I had ordered 2 of. But I had other things to eat -- like the Asada Fries my partner and I decided to share. We had been told we needed to try Asada fries in San Diego, but never really got around doing so when there. We were both really surprised to find them on the menu in a place like St. George and we thought we'd give them a try. The Asada Fries are, essentially, french fries dressed up like nachos; they're covered in queso, tomatoes, onions, guacamole, sour cream, and delicious, marinated, grilled carne asada (beef/steak). Potato nachos? I'm all for it. El Coyote Charro really outdid themselves here too -- the french fries were perfectly cooked and held up well. The queso was creamy and mild (not cheddar), and the tomatoes, onions, cilantro and jalapenos all tasted fresh. The guacamole, with large chunks of avocado in it, appeared to be homemade. The dollop of mexican sour cream was a nice finishing touch. It didn't have the distinct 'bite' of American sour cream, instead being more mellow and creamy in flavor -- ideal for cutting the heat from the jalapenos. Despite being a huge portion, and having already eaten a few tacos, my partner and I absolutely destroyed the Asada fries. They were an amazing blend of cultures -- and we're both huge fans now. I polished the meal off by ordering one of their 3 different Aguas Frescas -- Horchata. It was on the sweeter side, lower in cinnamon flavor than others and very tasty -- definitely worth having, especially at only $2.50. All in all, we had a great experience at El Coyote Charro. The food was delicious, authentic and cheap -- I hope my travels bring me by this place again.

Yum yum yum! Tried chicken and steak tacos and the sandwich with the pork. Loved it all. Thanks for the suggestion yelp!

This was a more traditional Mexican joint. I was looking for TexMex with a spicy flavor. This was not it. But the fish tacos were pretty good. Skip the salsa, go for the guacamole.

We had made a stop at Hawaiian Poke Bowl, but the family in front of us bought the last of all the poke. So we ended up here. First thing we noticed was the salsa bar. Loaded up our tray with one of each, guacamole salsa and the salsa roja were my two favorites. We couldn't decide what to order, so we went with a few items. Mulito with Al Pastor. The cheese! The cheese was excellent, and I'm not much of an Al Pastor fan, but the marinade was really good. And at $1.69, you can't beat it! Chicken Tacos-they come plain, meat only, with a side of grilled onions. Poor some of that salsa from the bar on them, again $1.25, how can you not get a couple! The grand finale was the Carne Asada Fries, the marinade actually beat out the Al Pastor. The meat was so good and the fries! Those fries I could've eaten alone. Definately get an order if you are here. They have agua frescas, we tried the horchata and the pina. The pina was better, horchata was too sweet for me, little too much cinnamon.

Very solid pork and asada tacos here. Been here may times. Who doesn't love street tacos ?

Fast, authentic, clean. The chorizo and pastor were my fav. Buddy got the quesadilla and said it was best he ever had. Don't miss the large caldron of free pinto beans near the salsa bar.

What a sweet find! I stopped here for lunch and couldn't believe the prices when looking over the menu. Inside smelled so good and they have a decent amount of tables. The girl at the register who took my order was nice and answered any questions I had about the menu. The "Carne Asada Taco" and "Al Pastor Taco" I had were both priced at just $1.35 each. You read that right, $1.35 each!! The tacos come just meat and tortilla, but they have a salsa bar with a variety of fresh salsas, veggies, onions and cilantro (free of charge) where you can dress your taco to your liking. The Al Pastor taco did automatically come with pineapple which I loved. The tacos both had good quality meat, no grizzle and the flavor was very good. I also ordered a "Carne Asada Mulita" priced at $1.79 and loved every bite! They were generous with the cheese and this was my favorite of what I tried. I will definitely be back when I'm in St George. One thing I noticed at the register was a sign that they have half price Al Pastor tacos on Tuesdays, like they aren't already cheap! Score!

Really good. Just stopped here on our way through St George, and found their half price al pastor tacos on Wednesdays. Ordered 4 each of carne asada, pollo pastor, and chorrizo. All excellent. Traditional toppings for street tacos available at the salsa bar. Good selection of free salsa. Horchata was great.

I was just driving through St George and found this place on yelp. The staff was helpful and made a great recommendation. I got 5 tacos, each with a different meat. I loved each of them.

Very good burritos. We came here based on Yelp reviews and we went back a few days later for more. Although the burritos are a little too salty, the carne asada, chorizo, marinated pork, and chicken options were very good. The horchata was too sweet. Their salsa bar has four salsa options and we were impressed with the flavors, especially the guacamole salsa. Good amount of seating inside and polite service.

Visiting from Oregon, and fell in love with this place. Probably the best Mexican food I have ever enjoyed.

  • D M.

Excellent! Take Cafe Rio and change almost everything to make it good and authentic and you get El Coyote. 4 tacos and a large drink was $6. The best choices for the "farm palette" are the carne asada burritos and the Al Pastor Tacos. Heaven!

  • Justin T.

El Coyote Charro is awesome, period. I used to hit the Taco trucks in LA when I lived there, and actually like El Coyote better than any taco truck I've eaten at in LA or Mexico. The food is authentic, but higher quality meat than what you would get at a truck. I especially LOVE their Al Pastor. They put in small pieces of pineapple instead of the long strip that I'm used to, and I love it - it's the perfect combination of meat/pineapple. Their sauces are really good as well, I especially like their guacamole salsa - kind of a green salsa mixed with a little bit of guac...the perfect combo. Finally, they have a pot of beans that you can serve yourself freely from. The beans are really good, and they are free. For me, that's awesome because I can take my 18 month old son and he can eat the beans (he actually wouldn't stop eating them, it was somewhat embarrassing) since he wouldn't normally be able to eat a true Mexican-style taco. To sum it up - just go! It's cheap, good, authentic Mexican food that you will love!

Very authentic taco place. We went with a Mexican friend and found many local hispanic people enjoying a meal. Gringos are also welcome and found it be very tasty. Good service and reasonable pricing.

I want to start the review on a positive note. The food was delicious. I loved the salsa bar with the free pinto beans and the tall Mexican cokes. I just finished a small meal there that I treated my grandma, brother and myself to. We had two tacos each with the exception of my brother who ordered the mulita carne instead of one of his tacos. We loved the pastor and carne, flavorful and not very tender but not dry at all. We also ordered the chips and guac which was chunky and loaded with tomato cilantro and onion. I prefer a more simple guac but I found it to be very tasty. With two Mexican cokes added to our order the bill came up to $20 which was much more than I anticipated after reading the other yelp reviews. Now, onto business. Their pastor tacos were actually $1.69 and not $1.39 that another reviewer posted which was a small disappointment. The much larger disappointment was the lie of their taco Tuesday special of pastor tacos being half off :( its on WEDNESDAYS or Miercoles! Lol. If you google search taco Tuesday specials in St George this restaurant comes up and its also mentioned in previous reviews that it is indeed on Tuesday. So sad! We are a very broke family which doesn't eat out very often, but we were starving and it is Cinco de Mayo after all. The biggest bummer of all was the VERY rude cashier. A young woman who argued with me when I explained that if you look online (or just assume the custom) it is advertised as taco Tuesday, not Wednesday. She didn't apologize and she never checked back up on us after dropping off the food. I know its not a full service restaurant but I did tip her and we were the only customers in the entire joint. Is it that hard to care? Not only that, but she was loudly talking/yelling to a coworker all the way in the kitchen while standing only a foot and a half away from me. So rude! No goodbye or thank you or have a nice day. Definitely didn't feel welcome to come back and quite frankly I won't be! Would've given 5 stars if she had an ounce of friendliness or professionalism. Why did you have to ruin the only authentic Mexican restaurant for me on the holiday of my people?! POR QUE?!

They didn't have any tortilla chips!?! What?!? But... he made some for me! Now that is service! Burrito was great! Spicy!

This was my first visit. (THANK YOU, YELP!). I had the tortas-the best Mexican sandwich I've ever had. Bursting with flavor! My wife got the quesadillas, and they were incredible as well. Great value. This will be our new official pit stop whenever we are in town.

    (5)
  • Greg B.

The grilled chicken quesadilla exceeded my expectations. I am a fan of the quesadilla at Qdoba and this is as good or probably even better. The guacamole salsa is very tasty. The chips however are mediocre. I will definitely return tomorrow for lunch. Finally...a good Mexican place in St George.

  • Michele H.

This place has ruined all the tacos I previously thought were flavorful and authentic. Why is this a problem? I live in Boston, and El Coyote Charro remains a cilantro-y mirage for my East-coast tastebuds. I had the pork quesadilla, which was a gigantic portion of beautifully spiced meat, rich cheese, and onions melted between two perfectly handmade tortillas. By the tables sits a salsa and garnish bar, which allowed me to load up on cilantro, pico, and cucumbers. If you are local or find yourself in St. George, please eat a pork quesadilla for me!

Didn't know where to go out to eat while visiting St. George. Checked yelp. Found a little hole in the wall Mexican place. Absolutely delicious food and affordable too!! Service was fast. I will be stopping here every time I visit southern Utah.

Grew up in San Diego, CA with authentic Mexican food and El Coyote is by far the best Mexican food I have had in the area. It is delicious. Can't beat the half price el pastor tacos on Wednesday's as well!

    (5)
  • Ted H.

Came on Wednesday and enjoyed half priced tacos al pastor (marinated pork) and a carne asada burrito. I quite enjoyed it. The meat is authentic with a hint of acid (probably marinated in lemon or something) which cuts the usually heavy taste of run of the mill Mexican joints. Also, my preference is on the spicier side and this fits the bill. Not outrageous heat but a good, flavorful kick. The meat could have been more tender but it was very flavorful. Nice salsa bar selections, all pretty good. Clean restaurant, newer furnishings. Nice place. PS, yelp doesn't map this right. Just plug in the actual address and you'll get there.

This little nugget saved us during a soccer weekend in St. George. With all other food establishments full during a busy holiday, we found this authentic Mexican place off the beaten path north of town. It fit our restaurant requirements: authentic, home-made, reasonably priced, not a chain. Definitely recommend it for the authentic Mexican food. It was all good, fresh and filling. I almost forgot to mention the salsa bar with a multitude of home-made salsa offerings.

  • Lance C.

Hands down the best authentic Mexican food in Southern Utah. Probably the only place that has a real trompo in the state of Utah for that matter! Don't know what a trompo is? Well they are on every street corner in Baja and El Coyote has one to cook their pastor to perfection. If you are tired of the typical bland, flavorless southern Utah Mexican food, come to El Coyote (BONUS - 1/2 price tacos al pastor on Wednesday!) you will not be disappointed!!!

  • Shad S.

In a town with several Mexican food places, my true test to tell how good it is if the locals frequent it. And this place is always packed with local laborers and workers. Great atmosphere and even better authentic food. Best Mexican food in town by far.

Wed pork taco special is such a great deal. Very authentic. .90 a taco? Can't beat that anywhere.

We were passing through town and looking for some good Mexican food. After reading other Yelp reviews, we decided to try this place. We were very happy we did. The food was amazing!! I got the Asada Burrito. Delicious! My kids got the Asada fries and really liked them. Big portions, and very reasonable prices. The only thing I wasn't too fond of was the Horchata. I usually love it, but not here. Other than that, everything else was great. We will definitely be stopping here again when we pass through St. George.

  • Nathan D.

You know when you have something so good you want to come back 4 hours later for more even though you aren't hungry? That's the carne asada fries. For a burger and fry guy who like Mexican food this was like heaven. My wife loved her pork tacos too. I wish I lived closer.

  • Dave N.

The only place in town to serve tacos al pastor! Its amazing! Their agua frescas are also amazing. I had 3 tacos al pastor, 1 chorizo, and 1 carne asada with hibiscus fruit water. An amazing (and big) meal for only 7 bucks! Go check em out! Im not sure the exact address but they are right next to ichiban and capriottis just up from costco and sportsman's warehouse in that new festival plaza behind the Albertsons. Ill be going back for sure.

We went right before we left on our weekend trip and it was amazing. I had never had a better burrito and it was so cheap too. Next time we are in town we are definitely stopping by again.

This place ended up serving my first and last meals on a week-long trip to Utah. I had their pastor burrito which was absolutely delicious -- the beans, rice, salsa and meat were perfectly blended together so that I had a bit in every bite. I also had a chorizo taco which was delicious! On my second outing, I had a cabeza burrito and a chorizo mulita, also delicious! The food is definitely 5 stars given that they have California taco-truck prices and is so good. The only reason I'm taking off a star is because the tables seem to have some old sticky varnish that makes you and your napkins stick to it. I'd definitely come back again, though!

Being from San Diego, I was REALLY skeptical about stopping at a Mexican joint in St George, but I was pleasantly surprised. The food was authentic, very well prepared, & the portions were huge! Very good meal, especially for being on the road in Utah.

  • Lyndsi W.

Being from San Diego I am picky about my taco shops and this place is authentic. I would come back here time and time again. Be cautious, their salsas and sauce even the mild are extremely spicy! I am a seasoned heat lover and even i found this place was noticeably hot with their salsas. I love how they give free beans and the meat choices are very close to the border authentic!

Great find on our way to Salt Lake City. He meat is tender and tastes great. The quesadillas are good with asada or chicken!!!

Delicious chips and salsa: check! Dirty tables: check! Worker in the back eating rice with her hands: check! Hair in the beans: check! Bathrooms: no check. Yep, NO BATHROOMS! Return trip: never!

  • Mike B.

The pork burrito was excellent! You have to like some spice in your meat (which I do). They have a salsa bar which was nice. However, I thought most of the salsas weren't that great. The guacamole salsa was the best. My daughter had the quesadillas which she didn't like (too spicy she said) but I sure did. Two suggestions for improvement: 1. Fix and clean your tables 2. Provide larger cups for water I will be back.

  • Mark B.

Burritos are good, probably will go on my short list for one of the better burritos in town. Tacos al pastor were good, but not amazing. Received our food fast though and was at a good temperature. I would definitely recommend this place to others. Not the best Mexican I've ever had, but savory enough to merit occasional repeat visits.

    (4)
  • Axiom P.

I went and had both a small taco and the burrito. The tacos are like the Taco's Al Pastor style and you can see their meat cooking on a spit behind the glass, which is kind of cool and authentic. Taste on the small taco was good, but I've had better. Liked the salsa bar though and that I could determine how much cilantro and onion to put on my taco. I also had the Burrito and felt like it was a really good burrito. It had lots of meat and the tortilla had a smooth consistency that wasn't too starchy like store bought flour tortillas. Overall, will attend again. There are no public bathrooms in the restaurant, which was a little weird, so if you're finicky about needing to wash your hand before eating, do so before you go in. It doesn't bother me though, so I will go again when I'm in the area.

Never expected to find such a great Mexican place so far from Southern California yet there it was. Menu is more limited than what I am used to but the favorites were available like carne asada and el pastor. The service was fast and friendly. We both had our hometown favorite which is a carne asada burrito and it was excellent! The burrito comes with rice and beans inside which I don't care for, so I just had the carne and it was still a big burrito. Better than the size was the flavor, meat cooked perfectly and seasoned just right. The salsa bar had plenty of choices from mild to really hot. There is also a pot of beans at the salsa bar for those like me who prefer beans on the side. Price was reasonable.

Love them tacos. The closest thing to califonia tacos!! the best in town!!! But rhey are kinda pricy. But its worth it

I love this place, Great food, great price. They have a great selection and very accommodating price with an enjoyable atmosphere for dining. The only complaint is they are always out of pinto beans so call ahead to determine if it's worth stopping by. I mean they are open tell 10:00 pm and are out of pinto beans at 5:00 pm.

Awesome and authentic street tacos at this place!! Their Al Pastor tacos were delicious! Something else that I thought was so good were their beans...a total taste of my childhood. Almost as good as my mamma used to make! My husband (a gringo) had the Al Pastor fries, and I had carne asada and Al Pastor tacos. Everything was so good. They also have a great variety of salsas. We will definitely be coming back the next time we drive through St. George!

Really great, simple place! Small tacos under $2, and fresh ingredients and salsa bar.

Mexican Cuisine
