Tonight my husband and I experienced Southern Comfort for dinner. I'll start out with the bad since there is very little "bad" to it. Bad: Well, the ambiance. The decor is just sort of....blah. I kinda don't mind it because I know it's a new business and if they had limited funds, it went into training an excellent staff and serving great food! I expect that as Southern Comfort gets it's feet off the ground a little more, they might be able to make the restaurant atmosphere a little more cool and a little less...square room with a few party store decorations thrown up. But really, when it comes down to it, it's mostly about the food. That's why people love little dives with great food. It's about the food and that is what Southern Comfort is about. (It is not divey at all...just sort of plain.) Love that they have live music on the weekends. Would be great if they dimmed the lights a little and turned up the spotlight more. Good: The food! This is Southern style food so expect extremely rich, satisfying food! The service! Unbelievable! From walking in the doors to leaving! I have a feeling this staff was trained to please. (Feels like going to In-and-Out burger where they are taught to treat you like nothing you do or say is wrong.) Food: Appetizers we experienced. 1. Cheese curds (my favorite) Little delectable deep fried curds with two different sauces. Really good! 2. Fried green tomatoes. We had never had these before and just wanted to try them. We both enjoyed them. It was different. 3. Fried pickles. Yum! I love pickles any way they come so really, I was going to like them anyway. 4. Crab/artichoke dip. I think that's what it's called. Whatever it's called...very good! Normally with any kind of shellfish dip, you mostly taste cream cheese and cheese. With this dip there is no doubt there is crab in it! Wonderful! Yes, we really did have four appetizers! Main courses: I had the burnt ends(I think this is the ends of brisket), with fried okra and Mac and cheese. The burnt ends were to die for! Really! I got the peachy sauce with it and it was awesome! The okra was pretty much just fried okra which is great. Mac and cheese...meh. I think they could do a little better on that. Not bad but not great. Husband got ribs with the not mild sauce and house sauce. Fried okra and succotash. Ribs...ya...to die for! Husband and I couldn't decide if my burnt ends or his ribs were better. They were both that good! Succotash...meh. Cornbread was good! Love the corn kernals! Would love if they served it warm with soft butter and honey. Then to top it all off...BREAD PUDDING! It was great! I only give it four stars because of personal preference. I like raisins in my bread pudding. Had it had raisins....heaven. My husband doesn't like raisins so he gives it five stars. So really...amazing bread pudding with or without raisins! The service: O.k. here's the thing...I have been to restaurants...I'm talking $200 a plate restaurants that have majorly screwed up our orders! I'm talking, rude waiters, snobby staff, and major mess ups! They didn't give us the time of day when the fault was obviously theirs. At Southern Comfort food, our waitress accidentally put in a wrong appetizer. One little thing. And it was like the end of the world. :) She and management went overboard in correcting the order! We would have been happy with her just fixing the order but instead it was multiple apologies and lots of accommodations we were more than satisfied with! We just sort of left shaking our heads. Do they really care that much about their service? THEY DO!!! The friendly hostesses made sure we got a booth even though they didn't have one available, our server was right there all the time to make sure we loved the food, she even made sure to tell us the best way to re-heat our leftovers, and the manager was always on the floor! This business has obviously taken the time to teach their staff about southern hospitality! I am excited to go back to Southern Comfort Food and try some other items! They also have a To Go menu so I'm sure husband will be picking up stuff for us on his way home from work. I would really encourage everyone to try it! If your not sure what to order, just ask your server! They are amazing! We will be going back many times I'm sure!

I had the jambalaya and it was pretty good . But the brisket was really fatty and way overcooked . The cornbread was really heavy and greasy . And the hushpuppies had no flavor . The service was good . And prices are OK . I wont make a special trip there . But would go again if I was in the area or someone I was with wanted to go there .

Where to begin.. We weren't sure what to expect here but my husband really wanted to try it out so we bought the Groupon and headed on in. The host takes you around a corner where you basically run into storage, tacky Mardi Gras decor, an indoor swamp cooler and an outhouse? It was truly bizarre. I've never seen anything like it. We were sat at a dirty booth and the waitress came and greeted us after a few minutes. I ordered the fried green tomato BLT with fries and asked for a side of ranch. Was told they do not have ranch and nothing similar to it. Then asked for fry sauce and the lady said she didn't know what fry sauce was.. Reminder, we are in Utah. She wasn't very helpful with trying to find me an alternative so I just changed my side to Mac and Cheese. After waiting for 30 mins in a dead restaurant for two sandwiches and seeing guests who were seated after us enjoying their meal, I finally asked the hostess if she could find out where our meal was. Immediately the manager and waitress brought out our meal and gave us a basic apology. My cold Mac and cheese seemed to be penne noodles with velveeta on top with a few slices of shredded cheese. It did not look a thing like what was pictured on here. My BLT was okay but the sauce on it tasted weird. The waitress was super prompt bringing our check, imagine that. We had to ask for a dessert menu as it was not offered to us. The only reason I was willing to wait for our food and order dessert was due to our Groupon. Service sucked, atmosphere sucked and food sucked. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. This place will run itself into the ground in a few months, mark my words!!!

Very yummy food! We had the brisket and Burnt ends. The brisket was tense and moist & flavorful. It came with cornbread, which was moist and delicious, and two sides. The burnt ends were flavorful, but a little bit too much on the burnt side. Otherwise very good. The side salad is a lettuce mixture and grape tomatoes & choice of dressing. We also had the mashed potatoes, and green beans. Definitely will go again.

Enjoyed the home made food! Had a chance to chat with the cook suggested they had a sampler appetizer. He explained they are working on it but each item is done one at a time and the sampler plate would take about 30 minutes! Loved pulled pork! Fried green tomatoes! Fried cheese curds! Wish I had room to try one of the desserts...mud pie looked amazing!

I really wanted to like this place because there is nowhere to get good southern food around this area. I will have to keep looking. I have never had such a bad food experience at a restaurant. Ever. Three of the five of us got the Po Boy. Like, 6 shrimp on the whole thing. Bread was completely dry and stale. There was hardly any sauce whatsoever, either. My 2 year old had the best tasting meal of all of us consisting of chicken strips and fries. They were out of several different Menu items on a Saturday night so our options were limited. The staff was nice, friendly, and accommodating, so I didn't have the heart to tell them the food was awful every time they asked. I did enjoy the live music, but the rest of the atmosphere and decor is severely lacking. It is dirty, hot and decorated via Zurchers. I really feel bad because this place isn't going to last much longer and I hate to see local businesses fail.

Maybe their southern selection is better but their Cajun/creole is not good. I had the gumbo and was seriously disappointed. It has no flavor at all, seriously bland, and for gumbo that's just a sin. They gave me extra spices on the side to heat it up but it was basically just pure salt. So my choices were bland or salt. My fiance got the fried catfish, fish and chips. They were mediocre at best and you don't get much fish, so it was overall a pretty bad value. I was really hoping this place would be good but sadly it's just not.

Great waitress! Terrible food! I got the burnt ends, slaw, and hush puppies. Everything was dry and not good at all. I could tell each of the entrées were in the microwave. So much for home made and fresh to order Bbq. I wouldn't go back here if you paid me, very disappointed

Blech. I do not understand how this place gets 4 stars.

If you're looking for southern food nearby, this will be the place to go. I'm a huge BBQ fan and I always get briskets on the first visit. The briskets proton here was a pretty good amount! I ordered it with the not mild sauce (which really isn't mild ), side of mac n' cheese, and a house salad with what I believe is their very own house dressing sauce but I can't remember the name!!! It was the best dressing I have ever had on a salad before. I recommended to the waitress they should bottle up this dressing and sell it. The environment of the restaurant gives off a vibe of a southern restaurant as well. One thing I didn't like was how dry the briskets were. If they were a little bit moist that would've been perfect. But with the sauce, it gave it a little moisture.

Let's take into consideration that this is my first visit. The food is good I'll give them that. First impressions when you walk in is that it is a bit scarce and sort of a divey feel. But there are a good deal of places like that when they are a new business. People go with what they can afford. I do like the food. Can't say that it is the best Cajun food I have ever had. That is mainly cause we are in Utah after all. The best I have ever had was when I was in Louisiana. With in the bounds of where we are it is good, not overly spicy, not overly bland either. Did like the shrimp po boy, bread could have been fresher, but I am not going to complain. Do plan to return to give some of the other dishes a try before I give this place a definite vote of worth it or not.

The food was good, the service was good. The food came out fast and is flavorful. I had the Po Boy with shrimp, and red beans with rice. I loved the buttery garlic bread. Some people might not enjoy the spiciness of the red beans and rice but I did.

The food here is pretty good. We tried the Jumbalaya, Brisket Dinner w/ red beans & rice and whipped sweet potatoes. The corn bread is really great. As our appetizers, we had to try the fried cheese curds (amazing!!!) And the fried green tomatoes. The staff is quite friendly and informative. My only complaint is that the brisket had quite alot of fat on it. I know some folks enjoy eating that but I'd rather avoid it. I also wish they served beer. I will be coming back for sure.

I am so glad I found this place. When unexpectedly stuck in the area, I searched for a local barbecue place to try out. Southern comfort was about 2 miles away from my motel so I decided to give it a try. I ordered the beef brisket meal with mashed potatoes and green beans. The meal came with cornbread on the side. I absolutely love barbecue beef brisket, and Southern comfort delivered. It had a great bark on the outside, ample smoke ring, and a delicious taste. The side dishes came in perfect sized portions and also tasted good. This would be a five star review if the ambience was a little better inside the restaurant, but the food and the wonderful wait staff more than made up for the drab interior.

And it is damn good. Tell u more when I get to my PC. OK, here I am. This place is a bit of a dive in serious need of a bit of decorating and removal of excess chairs. We hadn't been here before so we didn't know what to expect. My wife ordered a Fried Green tomato BLT and loved it. She'd never had FGT before. I got the Red Beans and Rice with Andolliu (sp?) sausage. Mine was great. It was spicy and very flavorful. Service was quick and attentive. I will be going back. I've read other reviews which said the RB&R was too spicy. Well my friend, that is what cajun is, spicy. You want bland, cook it yourself.

let me start out by saying that our server was the shining light of the experience she was through and friendly but after that the rest goes down hill, the decor was bland as their sweet potatoes all our food was sub par and cold. this was out second try and we are officially not giving this Resturant another try.... Sorry "Southern Comfort"

Finally an awesome Southern Restaurant in Utah! Hush puppies, fried green tomatoes, fried okra, THE BEST CORNBREAD AND JAMBALAYA. Excellent food and service!

  • Dennis B.

Bad, bad, bad. Brisket was nothing but fat. Red beans and rice had no beans, was watered down and had some tasteless meat in it. My wife had the pulled pork and it was cold. I think they got tired of pulling it as they had a huge hunk in the middle. She said the whole thing tasted like a pork roast done in the oven....no smoke taste at all. My wife is from the South and we lived there for many years. This is NOT Southern food. They should not have the word Southern in their name. Maybe it was just that day, but when the waitress told me that the brisket was great that day and then getting a plateful of pure fat, I have to believe they don't know what they are doing. I am embarrassed for them in trying to claim it is Southern food. I am trying to recover from the stomach ache I have from all the fat in what little of the brisket I did eat. The waitresses we had were very nice, but I could not help but feel sorry for them and wondered how much complaining they have to put up with, with this kind of food.

I really wanted to like this place. Being from The South, the chance of having a place nearby that sold both barbeque and Cajun Po'boys really excited me. Arriving at the restaurant we exited our car to smell the smokey wood goodness coming from the pit. That smell reminded me of really good barbeque from the past. We were seated quickly and our server took our drink order right away. I ordered sweet tea as a true Southern restaurant can be judged quickly by the quality of their tea. It was the best I've had since being in Utah. Our party ordered barbeque and shrimp Po'boys. The po'boys were a bit of a disappointment as there was minimal shrimp on them. I'm used to a heaping order of shrimp spilling out of the sandwich. The barbeque was the star of the table. It offered a smokey goodness and was tender. There was much more sauce on the sandwich than I care for, but barbeque is very subjective. I would definitely direct folks to this place for the 'que and would try other Cajun dishes that this place offered in the future.

Very disappointed. The service was scattered & it seemed like no one knew what was going on including the manager. This has happened the 2 times I've been here. Unfortunately I won't be back.

From the outside you think it's a hole in the wall and it doesn't look very appealing. But once you turn that corner everything changes. Food was fast, Arnold Palmer was the best ive ever had. Brisket was tender and juicy and the peachy sweet sauce was amazing. The green beans and bacon were better then a lot of places. My husband recommends the pulled pork and red beans and rice.

I was astonished to see the lack of stars for this restaurant. Basically, this place is pretty phenomenal for southern food. Best in Utah, in my opinion. Let me break down my reasoning why. This is southern cooking. It's f'in delicious, and Southern Comfort is about as authentic as you can get in this town or any close by surrounding area. The next best may be in Salt Lake City, if even there. The decor isn't "fine dining," so if you are set on eating at a fancy place with pretentious prices and small portions, take yourself somewhere where this need will be met. The prices on the menu for the quantity of food you get are excellent. If you leave hungry, I'd be surprised. The staff are super friendly and very nice. They opened the front door for us as we approached and asked if we wanted a booth or table, and seated us quickly. The menu isn't too large and still offers quite a variety. We tried the fried pickles as an appetizer, and they were good. It's definitely homemade cooking, as the batter was thicker than the typical store-bought fried pickles some restaurants try to get away with. I also ordered a cup (not the bowl) of the corn chowder. It was wonderful and tasty. I could enjoy a whole bowl for another visit, sometime soon. We both got sweet tea for our drinks. Be honest, you can't go to a southern place and not get the sweet tea. This tea is perfect!!!! I want a gallon to go with me next time so I can quench my fix for this sugary drug. My significant other got the Red Beans and Rice, which came with a side of cornbread. He said it was good southern cooking without all the frills, and perfect amount of seasoning and spices. I tried it and have to agree with his opinion. My brisket was perfectly smoked and tender- so yummy. There were four bbq sauces to choose from, and since I couldn't decide which one to get the waitress brought me a little of each. And then the sauces came with two spoons for me and my man to try each one. The house original was my favorite, and a couple close runner ups. The brisket meal came with two sides and I decided on the green beans with bacon and Mac n Cheese, and of course corn bread. The entire meal was excellent. I had to get half to go because we had plenty to eat by then. I did not take a pic of the Mac n cheese, but that's one big serving they bring out. I also didn't take a pic of the red beans and rice, but it was a large quantity as well. He took half to go. We can't wait to come back and try other options on the menu. We came on a Friday night, which had live music. It was mellow bluesy sounding music and perfect for the atmosphere. The only thing that I think is hurtful to the business is access to their parking- it is close to a busy intersection that you can't cut traffic if approaching from one direction. You have to go around the back to access parking, unless you are driving the same side as the restaurant is located. Then you can just turn right into their parking. However, this intersection isn't of their making and I will not hold it against the restaurant. I will keep coming back and just take the path of least resistance to get a stall. Hope others give this place a fair chance. We did. Also, you know a place is awesome when the local fire fighter crew rolls in to eat at the place- which they did. Anyone can find best places to eat by asking their local cops and fire fighters - they know!!!

The food was awesome and this is coming from someone who is 1/4 Cajun. Seriously, our whole party was very pleased with the food. The service was also great. The servers were friendly and attentive. We will be back on the weekend for the live music.

It was a pretty good lunch. I had the brisket sandwich and it was pretty good. Not the best but not the worst either. For the side I had the dirty rice and it was served cold. I think it would have been better had the rice been warmer. I wasn't a huge fan of the dirty rice but that just may be how the side is, it is my first time trying it. The server convinced me to try the fried pickles for the appetizer any they were good. I liked the beading on them. I do think there are better places to get fried pickles though. Overall it was an OK experience but I'd have to be really convinced to go back. Maybe go just to look how they have decorated the place. That may be worth the visit lol.

I always order brisket on the first trip to a BBQ joint. It's a tough cut of garbage meat that is hard to cook. Based on how they do it determines my return. I'm making a reservation now. For good BBQ, this place runs cheap. A goodly amount of meat, two sides and cornbread for under $12. There are several smoked options, some Cajun classics and a few "American" dishes like a ribeye or the fried chicken. The sides and appetizers run deep and you'll find some things you love. Everybody goes home full. You're served on real plates with real utensils and, outside of the "blah" decor, the place is clean and comfortable. I think the identity crisis comes from the stage at the end of the restaurant for live music on the weekends. It opens the place up a bit much. I like the big booths to fit a party larger than 6 and I am sure the place can hold a ton of folks. In addition to the brisket I had the dirty rice, outstanding. Flavorful and, well, dirty. The loaf of cornbread was perfect as well. The Mac N Cheese was served with Penne (different) and wasn't my favorite. The sauce was a bit thin and not as cheesy as I would have liked. Small issue. It's good BBQ. Better than the chains and most anything north of SLC.

They sure know what they are doing with the smoker. A wonderful smoke ring on my brisket. Such great flavor I only used the sauces every few bites. My collard greens were exactly as they should be. Delicious. I was a bit disappointed in the Mac and Cheese. The cheese was from a can. Throw away the easy listening elevator music that's putting the customers to sleep, and throw on some New Orleans marching bands and In the Summertime.

Stopped by this awesome little joint that is new in the Roy, UT. area. Great Memphis style BBQ and Louisiana creole food! Jambalaya? Gumbo? Red beans and rice? Yep, got em all. Etouffee? Yes sir. Burnt ends, brisket and 4 different sauces. Even pulled pork and Po' Boy Sammie's! These are probably the best burnt ends I have had since I moved from Texas about 20 years back. Smoky, tender. Just great. They had a live band when we stopped by on Friday. Waitress was really helpful with the menu and super friendly. Go check it out!

Not a big fan of this. First I got the st Louis ribs and it came out too pink. I told them if they could cook it longer? They took it back and brought it back to me saying they just stuck it in the microwave? Whaaaaaat? Boooo to the microwave. Never say that!

  • Cheryl P.

Our second experience was so much better than the first. The food and service was good. Jambalaya is very good (be sure to have it with the andouille sausage). Somebody messed up on the catfish...it did not taste like there was any seasoning in it at all. I am confident it is not meant to be that way. The hush puppies were the best we have had since we left the South.

Thought this place was "ok" first time we tried it and agreed to give it another shot. Our second visit confirmed our gut instinct. Different cafe-ish setting with cheap booths and tables, beyond that food was not appetizing either. I ordered étouffée, which was not served too me. I got what tasted like bad chili verde with scant seafood. Meal was cold and sent back. Hub ordered a jambalaya which also suffered in taste and substance. Sadly enough will not be back. We really miss Soul n Bones in Ogden. Have not found same quality anywhere.

I kind of get what they're trying to do here. They're not there yet, it is important to note, but I kind of get where they're going. What I don't get so much is the decor, which features predominantly glittery drama masks. It looks oddly reminiscent of what you'd expect a place catering to teenage female luchadores, if there ever was such a place. There is definitely enough space in there to arguably hold a ring, so maybe I'm not far off...I will say for a place that names itself after a liquor and includes "Comfort" in the name of the place, I did not notice an abundance of either liquor, alcohol in general nor was the place especially comfy to hang out in. The scant inside tables actually looked lonely. I think they have a stage or something, so maybe they intend for dancing some nights with a band or whatever. Staff was also a curious mix. The hostess tried really hard, as did the waitress, who overall did a pretty good job. Apparently, it was overstaffed as a couple guys wandered around without really doing much of anything, which was off-putting. One waiter was outright bad, answering what was selling best when asked what was best on the menu (if I ever have a restaurant, staff will be trying most, if not all, of the menu before serving and if I still find anyone that woefully inadequate, they will be redirected to the nearest workforce office) and asking somewhat loudly if patrons were about wrapped up. Asking how the meal was, seeing if people want desserts or refills, all normal stuff. Using verbiage that one might choose when readying a child for bed comes across as insulting and/or confusing and every table he put that question too seemed very unsure both how to take it and sometimes to answer. That dude needs retraining or firing. On the real. The menu also featured no combination plates, which is stupid and maybe a Weber County thing as the new place in Ogden doesn't have one either. I wound up going with some ribs, some red beans and rice and the fried okra. The ribs were ok. Rub wasn't the greatest and flavor wasn't really there. I got the distinct impression that these were oven ribs also rather than done completely in a smoker. Of the 5 sauces, I kept 2 out for use. One of them tasted a lot like ketchup and chili powder. Nasty. 2 were not bbq and I ejected for the ribs but kept for the okra. As to that okra, I've had better and worse. This one was a decent version, but needs to be paired with an appropriate dipping sauce designed for it. Red beans and rice were pretty much a disaster. This dish should have two things in it: red beans w/sauce and rice. If you want to get fancy, throw in some ham hocks or pulled pork or a bit of bacon, but that's it. I hate it when places fancy this side up. It universally sucks when that happens, every time. This one had sausage, which was admittedly tasty and then a bunch of other crap that doesn't really go with red beans and rice. It was a lot more like jambalaya and I was wondering if I got somehow switched out. Cornbread also came with and was both burned and dried out. I think this place is new, which probably explains a lot of the execution errors. I'm hoping they get better and if they're still around next year, I might try to check in on them. Too many others are doing this too much better for me to be in too much of a hurry to get back, though.

Well. The service is great, very friendly and accommodating. I had the Brunswick stew with cornbread. Did not like any of it! The cornbread was cold. It was made with lots of oil so it was hard, crumbly and oily. Even after our waitress brought a warm piece it was still hard and crumbly. My fingers had oil on them...yuck The stew was made with barbecue meat, butter beans and some other kind of bean. There wasn't any kind of broth, just very meaty and beany. You can eat it with a fork. Dessert was a peach cobbler. Made with canned peaches and an oily crust. It was a crumb topping at all. It didn't taste good either. I know I sound like I complain a lot but I don't. I try to find something positive to say so their sweet tea was very good. I will go back just to see if they had an off day but otherwise my husband said the poy boy was good. That's something I guess.

Where should I start... it was almost 100 degrees outside and there was no air conditioning. The band was so loud you couldn't hear anything else. The decor leaves a LOT to be desired. The food did come out relatively quickly but it was not good. The macaroni and cheese had less flavor than Kraft , the baked beans tasted like what you would get from a can, the BBQ sauce was flat tasting, the cornbread was ok but served without butter. I barely touched anything on my plate and the waiter never even asked if anything was wrong. This was the second time I have been here. The first time I thought maybe they were still working the kinks out. Guess I shouldn't have given them the benefit of a second try.

  • Mike B.

Got the pulled chicken, whipped sweet potatoes, and slaw. The slaw and sweet potatoes were ok, but the chicken was super dry. Don't go on a hot day because their air conditioning freezes up and they use a bunch of floor fans to cool the place, but it feels like a freaking sauna. Service was really slow.

Best home done BBQ we've had in this area. All the choices you like from a southern cooking menu and great side dishes. Glad it's open and I'm excited to try their live music nights, Friday and saturday. Closed Sunday

  • Shawnn Marie N.

Completely amazing. The live music, of local artists, on Friday and Saturday evenings is such an added touch. They're preparing for Mardi gras and the staff is very welcoming, as if you're walking into their home. Great atmosphere, inviting staff, yummy food. Appetizers range from cheese curds to fried pickles to artichoke and crab dip.. Yum!!! BBQ is all smoked in house, the bbq sauces are all hand made!! The Cajun dishes SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES! they're stellar!!! The fried chicken is deep fried in lard.... Yum!!! Don't forget the pecan or apple pie to finish off your night

  • Kyle V.

I wasn't sure if they were even open when I walked in. After a few minutes of looking around, a host wondered up to great me. The design of the restaurant is awkward. They have live music on the weekends, which is fine if you're in to that sort of thing. If not, it's just going to be really loud and you won't be able to have a conversation. The brisket was tough and chewy and the flavor of the meat was pretty bland. The house bbq sauce was excellent and did its best to cover up the taste. Mac and cheese was good. The service was fine, although we did wait for drink refills longer than desired. I probably wouldn't go back.
