Chinese Cuisine
The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.
Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.
There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.

I've worked next to this place for four years and avoided it, places that serve Japanese, Chinese, Thai and a mix of other cuisine often hit low. I was pleasantly surprised, sesame chicken was pretty good, miso was good. The lo mein was cooked nice but turned out to be spaghetti noodles cooked lo mein fashion. Only one waiter while the place was pretty busy, probably maintained 30 diners while we were there and my soda never ran dry. Food was a little slow but our group of 13 probably added to that.

I thought the food was very good, reasonably priced, had large portions and friendly service. If you are in the mood for a clean Chinese restaurant, but nothing too fancy I would come here.

I live nearby and have eaten at Fortune Cookie a few times. When I'm disappointed with a restaurant's food, I'm usually willing to give a restaurant a few shots to redeem itself. Unfortunately, Fortune Cookie has fallen short with every chance I've given them. I've been thoroughly disappointed by both their traditional Asian cuisine and their sushi rolls. For instance, I once ordered an overpriced teriyaki chicken lunch special that included only chicken (no rice) with a small amount of watery sauce and tasted stale. On a different occasion, I ordered both a California roll and a Tuna roll from their sushi menu...both were nearly inedible and ended up in the trash. If you're looking for Asian food or sushi in the Riverton area then you should definitely pass on the overpriced, subpar food of Fortune Cookie.

The rice was good. The orange chicken wasn't my favorite. The service was good. And the meal sizes were good also.

Love my teriyaki chicken, ham fried rice, and egg drop soup. Don't care for the house dressing on the salad though... tasted like it had horse radish in it. I wouldn't order the water... tastes like metal. usually very impressed with the sushi but not so much tonight and we got the mars roll, and crunchy roll

Sushi was pretty good 3.5 out of 5 but the service was great and the prices were reasonable.

We greatly enjoyed our lunch. The Bento Box offered our favorite choices, was a very ample amount of excellently prepared additions, and was very reasonably priced. We will definitely return and are grateful to find another outstanding restaurant in this area.

I have been to Fortune Cookie a handful of times in the past few years, but after visiting them twice in the last month, I'm pretty disappointed. My husband and I ordered 5 sushi rolls, and all of them were subpar. We decided to give Fortune Cookie another chance and order their takeout, and I was extremely disappointed. I ordered the chicken teriyaki, and it was super salty, dry, and basically inedible. I won't be a customer at Fortune Cookie anymore!

I came here nervously, as I am normally loyal to Tsunami. They don't have many vegetarian options, but that is understandable. I don't remember what my roll was called, but I know that it had inari in it, and I had them wrap it in soy paper. The roll was okay, but nothing that would keep me up at night drooling over it. For my next visit, I just wanted dessert (basically all that I ever want). I ordered the mini donuts, and they were pretty good. The menu said they came with 10, but they gave me about 30! Can you say SCORE? I wish there was some sort of dipping sauce included, as I thought my throat might close up if I ate one more. All in all, I'll return

The restaurant is clean, staff is friendly! The prices are a little high but the quality of the food is always good!

Fortune Cookie is one of those places that was desperately needed in Riverton. Before it arrived there was more chance of finding chicken in a chicken McNugget than there was of finding decent Chinese food in Riverton! I'll be honest, I didn't have high hopes for it, figured it would be your run of the mill strip mall Chinese, and for a while didn't even bother trying it. But one day my wife and I wanted some Chinese, but didn't feel like battling all the construction on about every road that would lead to somewhere more formal, so we decided what the heck, we'll get take out, if it's not great well we'll at least know. We were pleasantly surprised. Love the egg rolls and the hot and sour soup is great. All the Chinese dishes we have had from there (and we've had many different ones over time) have been of good quality. And there's enough food in one main item to be plenty for two people. Just order an extra egg roll and hot and sour soup and you are set! Decent meal for 2 for about $18. Can't speak much for the service since we always get takeout.

I've now been to Fortune Cookie twice and overall my impression is it's just ok. My husband and I went the first time on recommendation from my parents. They'd been there before, knew we were looking for sushi and since it was close we went. My husband really likes spicy rolls but when we asked for something spicy the waiter really couldn't recommend much. He offered to ask the sushi chef to make the rolls spicy which then meant we just got some Sriracha sauce dotted on top. Seriously not what we were looking for. The rolls were ok but nothing special. To me their seaweed salad was kind of funky. Definitely not my favorite. The second time I went was just yesterday with my family and overall not too shabby. My Dad and I ordered 4 rolls between us and found out that if you order 4 rolls they price them at $20 for two instead of full price. Which, depending on what you get, can be a slightly better deal. I believe our waiter said this only works between 11am and 4pm though. I'd ask before ordering if this is a deal you're looking to get. My Mom ordered a bento box type lunch which looked ok but didn't come with rice which to me is strange. My brother ordered the Crispy Beef which was really tasty and really crispy. I only had a bite but he cleared his plate and seemed to like it. The rolls my Dad and I got were ok. I think we got the Tokyo, Hawaiian, Rainbow and Playboy rolls. The Hawaiian was different because it had mango on top which was a different treat. It's rather sweet though so if you're not into sweet skip it. The Rainbow was pretty tasty and had a variety of fish on top. I liked the Playboy better than the Tokyo because of a subtle taste difference. I think the sauce on the Tokyo just reminded me of grocery store sushi so it wasn't anything special. I can say the rolls here are rather expensive. The variety is better than some strip mall sushi joints so they do have that going for them. There isn't a lot that's spicy though so if you're into that go somewhere else. If you're looking for a sushi fix and have people who would rather have Chinese food this isn't a bad option. From the taste of my Brother's plate the Chinese food may be the way to go.

For the Riverton area, I thought this place was pretty decent. I do think the prices do seem a bit high for this area as well, but I felt like they served good food that seemed fresher and better prepared than your typical Asian restaurant, in the area. I thought the service was fine. The sweet and sour soup was decent. My mu-shu pork had way too many onions, but the flavor in general was good. I will go back at some point. For the area, it's decent.

I used to frequent this place a lot. I'm not sure why I stopped because the food is pretty decent and the sushi is decent for an Asian fusion type joint. Crispy beef is tasty stuff!
(3)Jessie M.
Horrible customer service. The food is over priced and was even told "oh no we can't do that, it come frozen like that." I have tried this place multiple times and every time I am disappointed. The horrible service and over priced frozen food is not worth your time.

Prices are ridiculous during dinner. Customer service was poor. Waiter was indifferent, not helpful. The place is not worth it. Not coming back.

I have visited this restaurant numerous times for sushi rolls. Every time I question why I do that! It's because there isn't anything else anywhere near us, and I just want sushi! The sushi is pretty okay - I've only ever had sushi from three places, so I may not be an experienced judge, but the other two places were better. Tonight I called in an order and picked it up 5 min. after the requested time. I actually stood right in front of the desk, while the servers physically leaned around me and asked the people behind me if they could be helped. This happened FOUR times! I waited it out - very curious if I'd become invisible, and wondering if I was, could I simply go pick up my order and walk out without anyone seeing me. When I finally made eye contact with one server, she seemed confused. I spoke first and pointed to my take out order and told her it was mine. She didn't believe me! I repeated it two more times, and then, just to be sure she looked up my phone number. But the clincher is the price. Tonight my takeout order was: Hawaiian roll $13.99 (8 pieces), and the vegas roll was 10.99 (10 piece). With my 20% coupon it was just under $25. My 12 yr old son and I shared it, then went to the kitchen and got more food. So if money is not important, and you don't mind being invisible, try it out!

went there once and never again... worst service, the waiter was very rude i was the only one in there, it was after the lunch hour, the food was cold and tasted like it was cardboard, i got the chicken chow mein, he also told me i wasn't allowed to order an extra side of rice for my daughter... never again.

I should come with a warning label. Having lived in China and Taiwan, I really hate Americanized Chinese food. But, there are no authentic Chinese restaurants out here and so I have to make do with what I have. On a previous occasion I came here with a friend and we had sushi that was ok. Not amazing, but ok. This time coming I order takeout online because I needed something to appease my craving for Chinese. Umm, yeah. This was fine. It was Americanized to the hilt. Definitely not a fan. I will only return if I must.
(2)Stephanie S.
Service is always really good. Great sushi...especially for Riverton. The Mars and Mountain Stream rolls are our favorite here.

Looks like a standard strip mall Chinese joint. I usually skip these kind of places, especially if they are some sort of hybrid place (this one is Chinese & Japanese), but we are hard up for restaurants in the area so I finally gave it a shot. Not glad I did. When trying a new Chinese place, I usually get General Tso's. It's a basic dish, hard to screw it up. Well, theirs was screwed up. It came out and chicken tasted bad, like old, not fresh. We sent it back and were gracious about it. It came out again. They clearly remade the dish from scratch, but strangely, again the chicken tasted bad, like Old Sock Chicken or Left in the Car Overnight Chicken instead of General Tso's Chicken. So, obviously I'm not going back. How this place continues to survive is beyond me. A truly good Chinese place would clean up in this area. Also, the prices are too high for the quality of food, unless it was stellar. I'm used to better food for less in SLC, an issue with many Riverton/Herriman area restaurants.

Fortune cookie has great Chinese food and it's always fresh and hot. It's hard to find a place that doesn't make greasy Chinese food, and this is one! I would recommend trying it out.
(5)Gena C.
We love this place for the bento dinners. The sushi is pretty good for inlander stuff:) Not a bad choice for dinner or lunch at all!
(5)Davin K.
Friendly take out, good prices, one of the few sushi spots I qould regular on the south side of town. They make a good spider crap appetizer, and a proper miso.
(4)Regina H.
Who in their right mind puts cream cheese in a crunchy roll! The tempura was ok. I prefer a lighter batter, but the portions are generous. The blackberry ice tea was yummy.

Judging from the disgruntled look on my dad's face as I was driving, I knew this was going to be an interesting dinner. You see, my parents will only eat at restaurants where rice comes out in large bowls. This limits their choices to pretty much Chinese food--they don't venture much outside of that realm. They also prefer not having to drive too far to go eat rice, so, that limits them to eating at home, or venturing to a Chinese restaurant. Well, this place was "far" for my dad--more than ten minutes outside of his normal places, and so he was a little huffy, and making comments left and right. We arrived in a newly developed area of Riverton and arrived at Fortune Cookie. Honestly, this was the first time that I had been to a restaurant that served both Chinese and Japanese food. I guess when in Rome ... so we did, but stuck with what my parents wanted--Chinese food. We ordered four or five entrees, including: honey walnut prawns, orange chicken, house special crispy pan fried noodles, and something else. Our waitress was hard core cause she didn't even write down our order, she memorized it, and then punched it into the computer. Hard core, I say! Overall, the food was pretty decent, and my parents although grumbling in the car, were ok with the food. Service was pretty good, and they were quick to take care of our requests fairly quickly. The restaurant was pretty full on a Saturday evening, so I guess that's always a good sign. I'm docking one star for not having a real focus. Most places that I have specialize in one cuisine, not multiple. From what we had, their Chinese selection may be their strength, so I would say go for that if you try it out.

Small, expensive, yummy pieces

We have been going here since it opened. We usually get General Cho's Chicken and their amazing Egg Rolls. Always tastes great.

I'll admit it. I walked in expecting another crappy Utah Chinese restaurant. What I found was Asian food as good as anything I've had in Utah. The food tasted fresh, and the sauces were heavily flavored by, what could only have come, from carefully constructed reductions. Our favorites are the Thai Basil Beef, Pork in Garlic Sauce, and Hot & Spicy Shrimp. Great postickers too. Dunno if I'd trust sushi from a place in the middle of Riverton, UT.
(4)Al C.
Don't normally write a review, however I was impressed with the food and service. I ordered Hawaii roll and playboy roll and some other hot dishes, and we all liked very much! Also the waitress was very nice and helpful, she tried to make sure her customers happy!
(5)Mary N.
My husband and I returned after my first visit and were less impressed. It wasn't bad per se, but it's clear they manage to keep their prices low by keeping the sushi fish nearly imperceptible (see also: paper thin). We've since found another restaurant we like significantly better and will probably not return to Fortune Cookie.
(3)Emily P.
Sushi is AWFUL! I have gone here twice (I understand, sometimes you can have one bad experience and never happen again!) first time, octopus was rotten. Second time? Fish eggs were frozen solid. I will NEVER come back!!
(1)Scott T.
We came in for the 50% off sushi rolls. My wife is Japanese, works at another sushi restaurant, and we eat a lot of sushi. We didn't expect a lot going in, but was seriously some of the worst we have had. Fish was questionable (smelled and was tough and old). I have had better sushi from all you can eat Chinese buffet places. Chinese food was better, but found a hair in the salad. Service was not bad. Decor not bad. If you go stick to the Chinese side of the menu.
(1)Brian S.
I have been here twice but on my last visit tried the sushi. I noticed they indicated on the menu and outside on a sign that the sushi rolls are 50% off. Good deal huh? Well, not if you ridiculously inflate the price before you give half off. I don't think I have been to other sushi joints that have $18 and $20 sushi rolls on the menu. But hey, cut that by %50 and all of a sudden $9 and $10 dollar rolls are a fantastic deal...right? The rolls themselves were just decent. The cucumber had no crunch and the rolls with tempura shrimp was soggy like it was out of the microwave. I think this place could improve by using fresher ingredients and methods as well as reasonable straightforward pricing.

Wow its been a while since Ive eaten here. The previous owners now own watermoon cafe in Draper. I have to say that my expectations were low but our visit today pleasantly surprised us. We had the crispy beef, vegetables and bean curd, and mapo tofu from the Chinese menu. They were actually very authentic. The owner told us she just hired a new chef from Taiwan. This was definitely good news! The sushi were all half off and it was decent. Big portions even though its 50% off. Overall good experience and they were nice enough to give us free dessert (fried bread)
(4)Dan W.
I'm not a big Asian food aficionado, but I always like what I get here. I've had a lot of different things on the menu and never been disappointed. I like the teriyaki salmon and get that in a bento box pretty often. The service is good and the portions are big.
