Theres people make a mean sandwich. Hearty, loaded, good bread, and fairly quick service. The best part is they almost always have some coupons that are usually better than a normal coupon. Like free chips or drink. Its odd though that their signature sandwich is the Philly, and its called the Italian place.....

Delicious. simply delicious.

Just checking in. Still 5 stars. Although last night they messed up my call-in order again. That's happed 2-3 time. Not withstanding, this place is so yum!

The Orem location is the original and it looks like it! The place could use a makeover but if your into dining with more pleasing surrounds just go to the Provo or Lindon location. Best Pastrami Sandwich ever! I also like the Philly and everything. The Steak and everything is good as well. Fresh ingredients. A solid Sandwich place

Quick on the service and the food quality is better than I expected. I especially recommend the "Italian Delight". Can't go wrong with the the salads either. Cheers!

My family has been coming to the Italian place for years and years and years. Conveniently located on state street next to radio shack, Italian place is one of the best steak and cheese sandwiches you can get in the state. Choose from a standard steak and cheese to a steak and everything, piled high with your favorite peppers mushrooms etc. The bread they use here is what keeps me coming back. Soft and always fresh. They add just the right amount of pepper to the meat to leave a soft kick of spice after every bite. Loaded with cheese, it melts in between the steak leaving every single bite a good one. Prices are more than fair considering how much steak you get in a sandwich. I usually go with the full steak and cheese. Get a half if you aren't too hungry, and get a monster size if you want to save some for later. The staff is friendly, and they always cook your steak fresh to order. Your food will always be hot and delicious. Come here for one of the best cheese steak sandwiches around. You won't regret it!

Hot, delicious sandwich. Seriously, I'm not even much of a sandwich person, but the bread was soft and the sandwich was hot and really tasty. Not very many people in the restaurant at all, but it tastes a lot better than it looks on the outside.

This is an extended family favorite. We love this place. I love the steak, cheese, and peppers. My mouth is starting to water just thinking about them.

I finally went here for the first time the other day...and had a steak salad. I know, I know! Don't hate. The salad was really good, though. It was like a sandwich except on a delightful bed of lettuce. I'm not sure it was healthier than the sandwich, but I'll pretend it was. I also had a bite of a turkey sandwich, and it was pretty damn good. I'm sure the steak sandwiches are equally delicious. The prices are quite reasonable, and the food came out quickly. I'm not sure why they call it The Italian Place, though.

I've only been here a couple of times, but have loved it each time! This place is a hidden gem. Their sandwiches have unique combinations of flavors (for example, the Italian Delight, which is delicious, has steak, cream cheese, marinara sauce, mushrooms, mustard, pickles, and tomatoes). Quickly becoming a favorite!

Good food. Greasy as all get out, but what do you expect from a cheese steak place. Yes, it's a dive. Yes, it's fattening food. Yes, it's a pretty simple menu. But the flavors are there, the authenticity is there, the sincere love of food from the owners is there, and the food is definitely good enough to make a return trip for (the right amount of seasoning, tender "steak," lots of veggie). You shouldn't be disappointed.

Italian Place is greasy, it's not pretty to look at, it's messy, but what more could you need at a modest little sandwich place? If you go in knowing what to expect, you will always be happy! I love their sandwiches and cheese bread. I only wish they had a location closer to home.
(4)Joe A.
Great sandwich. You won't find a better steak-n-everything sandwich in the beehive state.

It's been around forever. It's not bad, but never been a favorite of mine. Since I work nearby at the moment, it was time to give it another try. I'm not sure how CheeseSteaks and Italian go together. It's probably a historical thing. They do have one "Italian" sandwich. It's been mentioned not to compare this with East Coast CheeseSteaks. I agree. If a place just says it's a CheeseSteak, there's a lot of room to play around. They make a pretty good sandwich. When they have a sandwich called "Philly 'N' Everything", they just claimed territory and need to be graded against it. It's got steak, mushrooms, green peppers, onions, tomatoes and cream cheese. "Philadelphia" cream cheese. Get it? Every seen a CheeseSteak in a place like Pat's and Geno's with tomatoes and cream cheese? Yea, me neither. I ordered mine with steak, onions and provolone. That's traditional stuff. So, how does it stack up? Actually it's pretty good. It's better than some other places. There's just one thing that's bothered me for a long time. There's a flavor in the sandwich meat the didn't do it for me. This time I thought about it. It's black pepper. When I looked close I could see the ground pepper. The meat has quite a bit added. It's not only not traditional, I don't like it. So, that's a bit of a game stopper for me. All in all. It's a decent sandwich in a slightly depressing atmosphere.

The steak and cheese is amazing, the only one around that I'll eat -- 5 stars. The place is a dive -- 2 stars, it reminds me of a few grinde places in Boston. Due to the yumminess of the food, I don't care. I love the tomatoes, onions, loads of cheese, meat, pepper, and the bun is amazing! This place has been around for as long as I can remember. We used to go there for lunch when I was in high school and it was down on University Ave. in Provo. Thumbs up for sure!
(4)Dave R.
I have been eating these great sandwiches for 40 years! a great taste treat, when ever I am in Provo I eat one...
(5)Shauna S.
My standard steak sandwich place. Mushrooms, cream cheese and provolone cheese--kind of bad but tastes so good. We usually call ahead.
(4)Roger S.
This place is awesome. I ate a ton of cheesesteaks back east and this place rocks! Got a monster philly and everything. It is soooo good!!! I'll definitely be back.
(5)Michael C.
I have to come here on every trip to Provo. This rating is for the only sandwich I get. The Italian Delight--steak, cream cheese, marinara sauce, mushrooms, mustard, mayo, pickles & tomatoes, all thrown together on the griddle until they meld into one indistinguishable mash of greatness. This last time I thought I loved it so much that I got the "monster", but should've gotten the "full". Dine-in is only for those who like the "dive" feel.
(5)Alan D.
Its good. Is it a great flavor that I crave or remember? Not really. First off, the place is really old. I remember when this place started in the late 70s and my mom loved the steak and everything. It was good. Was OK. Wasn't dirty, wasn't bad food, not bad service, but it didnt rock my socks off. Would I eat here again? Yeah, no problem. Nothing wrong, but nothing with so much flavor that I crave coming back. Just a good sandwich. Yeah, Just good.

Ahhhhh... Memories... I lived in this town oh so many years ago and the Italian Place was my go-to place. I can't tell you the time I looked for a similar philly steak sandwich everywhere I've lived since. I've found good sandwiches in Oregon, California, Idaho and Europe, but none ever seemed to match the beloved steaky yummy messiness of the Italian Place. Well, now I moved back and travel all over the Wasatch front for my work, and look what I discovered! The Italian Place lives! Now also in Orem on State Street. You can get a steak and everything (mushrooms, onions, bell peppers, steak and provolone) or just steak and cheese, or have what I had: the Philly Steak: instead of provolone, they put Philadelphia Cream Cheese in there, and I had onions, mushrooms, tomatoes (I leave off the bell peppers, they just get in the way). OMGOSH. The cream cheese melts and wow. Melty, messy, delectable steak sandwich. I got it to go, and Luckily, I looked in the mirror before my next stop. ALL OVER my face. After a little clean up, I was good to go, and smiling with my full tummy. The place is utilitarian, nothing fancy, and they work fast, so if there's a line, it goes fast. You can get salads, chips, drinks and cookies, but I just get the wondrous sammy. And the 1/2 size is more than sufficient.
(5)Greg T.
Best philly in Utah. I love the steak and everything. Lots of meat, and spicy too.
(5)Casey J.
Good sandwiches. Not the best, but a lot better than a lot of places around. I go here quite often.
(3)Nate B.
Delicious and filling. I have been here a couple times now and crave it all the time. They give you plenty of meat and is affordable. I like the monster size Zeus and Philly and everything. I do t like the name of the place though because there is nothing Italian about this place.
(4)Dave B.
When you're looking for somewhere different with strong flavor, Italian place is the best option around here. They are nestled on State Street so its easy to miss if you're not looking for them. I only eat here once in a while but they never disappoint.

I was in the mood for a burger, but this place was closer and after driving by it repeatedly over the past few months, I finally stopped in. So, here we have a sandwich shop called "The Italian Place" with one arguably Italian sandwich and no salami, no soppressata, no Parma ham and no fresh mozz. Based solely on that, despite the low, quasi-romantic lighting, this place fails instantly as an Italian joint. Instead, there's a bunch of hot subs like Philly cheesesteak and ham & cheese and the one I tried, the Pastrami. Hey, give me a good pastrami sandwich (harder to find than you think) and I will forgive all of that and that's exactly what they did. The Pastrami was fairly lean, flavors were on point and they used ground mustard along with the melted Provolone. I had to take it on the run, but no worries there as the sandwich was clean enough that I could eat it on the road without wearing it. It wasn't too long and I wasn't missing the burger anymore and was thinking that I had finally found a lunch spot in Utah County, which has gone unrepresented to this point. The menu is a bit light as far as offerings, but it does have both Coke Zero and Diet Dr. Pepper on the fountain, so good there. It also looked pretty clean overall. I wouldn't hesitate to pick something up for the road, but I'm not sure I'd really want to eat there, despite the double tvs. Definitely will be trying more of their offerings in the future, though. They make a pretty mean sandwich.

Two words: Steak and Everything! This sandwich is simple... And simply perfect! I had my first s & e in 1978 at this location and the recipe/preparation hasn't changed a bit. Good service. Amazing sandwiches! Yummmm. The Italian Place makes it tolerable for me to be in Utah County.

The steak sandwiches from Italian Place are an institution unto themselves. They should never be compared to East Coast cheesesteaks. They're a totally separate animal, and need to be appreciated thusly. I've been coming here for (cough) years, and now it's very rare that I am in the neighborhood. But when I am Orem-ing and feeling up to a sizeable slew of red meat, I always want to go to IP. If memory serves, their Steak & Everything with cream cheese is something that I originally tried a very long time ago. There was a magic lamp involved, and some other stuff happened. I remember asking Robin Williams for "The best sandwich ever, please." IP's S&E appeared before me. And I did eat. And I have gone back. A few times. This thing is the polar opposite of gourmet, or anything remotely beautiful. It's mighty messy; in fact, obscenely so. They wrap it in white paper, which I guess is better than brown paper for highlighting the grease from the grilled meat on board. The peppers and onions are so yummy, if sparse. You can request extras of them upfront if you prefer your veggie-to-meat ratio a little higher. The ambience here leaves a whole lot to be desired. Don't really touch anything while you're in there. Get your S&E to go and eat it in your car, which is probably parked a mile away on State St because if the alley's full, you're screwed. Good luck. But the sandwich is just perfectly dreamy in the most deleterious way...

My mom and dad have stories about eating at this place when they were just married and going to college. I grew up in Idaho, but we'd stop here for a sandwich whenever we drove down to Utah. Now I live in Southern California, and I make sure to schedule a stop here for a sandwich whenever I'm driving through. I married a guy from Philly, so I've had a lot of really good Philly cheesesteaks. The Italian Place sandwiches have black pepper (a lot) and the bread is different than an authentic P. cheesesteak, so I consider them in their own category, and so, so yummy!. I'd personally rather have a sandwich from The Italian Place than one from back East. (Don't tell my husband, shh.)
(5)Connor K.
Went there for my first time yesterday, I really enjoy Philly steaks. The Philly was great with the cream cheese, I didn't have tomatoes. It filled me up and had a great taste. Would definitely go again and the price was extremely reasonable.
(5)Kristen J.
If you want to have the best kept secret at this place, it's the Italian Delight sandwich. Philly steak mixed up in a sauce of marinara and cream cheese. Tomatoes and pickles on top to cut the richness. So freaking good. Definite comfort food. And will keep me going back there forever. If I had my own "Best Thing I Ever Ate" show on Food Network, this would be on my list.
(5)Richard S.
Better than Subway, but not really memorable for me. Our office used to be close by and we ate here several times and I never had my socks blown off.

This is a family favorite...If you go and there are four tables squeezed together with an Italian-esk loud family-thats us (my appologies). Our family has been going to this "philly" cheese steak sandwich place for EVER. I believe my Pops is an original customer. With so many historic Utah (happy) Valley eats going away, this has still maintained! This type of cheesestake is unique to "The Italian Place" there is no compairison. Their menu has expanded in recent years and the additions are as good as the original. Speaking of the original "Steak and Everything": I double meat and have them add extra-extra (black) pepper (like they used to be years and years ago). Ive never found the food to be greasy-personally. The flavors are married beautifully (I dont think they have a bad sandwich) Come Hungry Friends! True Story: My Pops went to this place in college or something and every time he was back in Utah he would go. Then one day the storefront was gone...we wend a few years withou having them during visits there until one day while we were moving to the area and driving around with realtor we saw this location and yelled to pull over! We emptied the car and immidiatly ordered cheesestake stake and everything. It was a wonderful thing.

Sloppy, yuckster fare that does a body good from time to time. I only hit up this place with the guys. My wife hates it. Too sloppy and street for her tastes. I tend to agree to a certain extent, but it is a lot of food for the money but the menu often feels to homogenous for me.
(3)Dustin B.
I stopped by here looking for something different, I figured The Italian place would be an Italian restaurant or something. Turns out it 's a sandwich shop focusing mostly on hot sandwiches. I'm a big fan of steak and cheese sandwiches so I decided to stay and try them out and I have to say the place makes a really good steak and cheese! It was a bit peppery (black pepper, the green pepper were perfect), but other than that it was great and only a little bit more expensive than a fast food extra value meal. This is a great place to go if you're sick of hamburgers and want a change.
(4)Landon S.
Only complaint is that their food is occasionally dry...
(4)Jeff G.
Yummy. This is what comes to mind when you think of the Italian Place. The IP specializes in cheese steaks and they are exceptional by far the best in Utah County. If you are craving cheese steak or a filling meal this is the place for you. If you are craving something else know they only make cheese steaks
