Let me preface this by saying that I consider myself somewhat of a Mexican food connoisseur. My favorite foods on this planet are bean and cheese burritos and beef tacos. I know, I'm a simple person. This restaurant is my go to sit down place for Mexican food. The chips and salsa are delicious and a great first impression for the me. I also love the quality and quantity of the entrees. My husband always gets the fajitas and is never disappointed. I try to change things up once in awhile (which is scary for me), but I always go back to the supreme burrito which has everything imaginable stuffed in a tortilla. I never walk out of there without a to-go box weighing at least as much of a small child. The reason I knocked off a star is due to the service. It's just OK - the food and refills come out in a timely fashion, but at times I feel like my mere presence is an inconvenience to my waiter. If you've got a hankering for huge portions of delicious Mexican food, do yourself a favor and dine at Mi Ranchito!

Growing up in Orem, Los Hermanos always was top dog when it came to Mexican, but Los Hermanos has lost its touch. And Mi Ranchito has picked up the slack. It's our favorite! We travel all the way from Cottonwood Heights to get our fill. It's fantastic! Their smothered burrito tastes a million times better than Los Hermanos. We will continue to battle the traffic and crowds for those burritos!

Service was fine (no coffee refill though) and the ambience okay but neither my son or I cared to finish our orders of a bean and cheese burrito (his) & chorizo burrito (mine: eggs and chorizo mixed). Still hungry, I ordered a third plate (beef taco + chicken enchilada) but still didn't clean my plate. 2 to go boxes later we were on our way out the door. Luckily my nearby niece and nephew will eat almost anything because I hate wasting food.

My son-in-law and I were in Orem at lunchtime and noticed this place. I wanted to stop, because it looked like a typical Mexican dive, which I like. My wife does NOT like them so I don't get to indulge too often. Seizing our chance, in we went. It was pretty much a typical Mexican dive in appearance. Lots of kitsch, families with screaming kids eating cheap, etc. I was pleased that they not only had diet Dr Pepper, but they could add shots to it! (I chose coconut). So kudoes for a cool non alcoholic selection. We perused the menu and a 2-person meal named "Molcajete" caught the eye. I challenged the waitress - saying "Let's lay it on the line. I'm from Texas. Impress me." She immediately pointed to the molcajete, confirming our suspicion. The meal did not start off well. Their salsa was terrible - tasted like it had a Campbell's tomato soup as a base . Ecch. Luckily, the main meal arrived soon. It was stupendous. Terrific shrimp, plus skirt steak, nopales, and (sadly) a bunch of chicken (the inexpensive substrate of many a mixed-meat meal). 'Twas all cooked up in a delicious sauce that was great to sop up with tortillas. To one side was a platter of the usual Tex-Mex sides - rice, refritos, crisp lettuce, sour cream, guac, & topping it off, one lonely black olive. Though touted as a two-man meal and even though we were both hungry, we took plenty home as leftovers. We agreed that we could have also fed our wives with our order. Other high points - for the first time, they brought enough tortillas that I didn't run out. I only had one left, but still. Also when they refilled my drink, they remembered to squirt in the shot of coconut. They lose a point for their nasty salsa, the screaming kids at the table next to us, and the fact that they are not in Texas, so I can visit only once a year. Recommended. But skip the salsa.

Great, fast service. Hot, cheesy enchiladas. Refried beans with whole beans. Healthy, non-greasy rice that is full of flavor. Zingy salsa.

5 stars for chips and salsa! The chips are warm and crisp. The first batch of salsa was a little bit more spicier which I liked but the second round not so much. 4 stars for service: they were. Quick and efficient. Kept on refills of drinks, chips, & salsa. 3 stars on food. The tacos are outstanding which deserve 4 stars but everything else was blah. The enchiladas and the chili relano was just ok. Not a lot of flavor and very soggy. Overall I give this place a 3 star rating. I would never choose to eat here but if someone wanted to go then I would go. It's very hard to find good authentic Mexican food around Utah county.

I have been going to the Mi Ranchito in American Fork my entire life so this family owned restaurant definitely holds a special place in my heart. The #22 bean and cheese burrito is pretty much the only thing I've ever had and it's one of my favorite meals. I usually end up eating there about once a week, but I have been known to occasionally eat there twice in one day. The service is always good and it has a good atmosphere. Definitely a favorite of mine and my crew.

I've been eating at this restaurant, in this location, for over 30 years. It's not the best Mexican food in Utah. In fact, it's no longer even the best Mexican food in Orem! But it IS good quality, consistent, plentiful, reasonably authentic Mexi cuisine. They offer shredded beef, not just ground. Their salsa has some kick to it and also delivers bold flavor. The chile verde is delicious and spicy and has plenty of the pork chunks you're looking for. The food isn't anything to wake from a coma for, but it's always tasty and fresh. They do glob on the cheese, but not sickeningly so. They have a full bar, which is a big deal in this part of the world. The servers are always friendly and helpful. They're also OPEN on SUNDAYS, so if you're in the mood for Mexi food... go here and you won't be disappointed.

Food was great the salsa pretty spicy and the steak and potato burrito was yummy. The reason i gave it 3 stars was because of the waitress, we sat at our table after being seated for almost 20 minutes, we couldn't eat any more chips and salsa because of no water or drinks. Finally after about another 5 minutes we got our drinks and orders in the food came out quick. After we were done we needed boxes to go and again no where insight for another 20 minutes. Good food lousy service

I've been going to this place for over a decade, time for a review here! This place is one of the best mexi restaurants in utah valley,I make it a point to stop here on my lunch breaks once a week. The food has always been great! From the chips and salsa down to the mocajete's,I can tell the owners of this place put a lot love and care into this place to make sure your getting an unforgettable meal,I really like the atmosphere here it's loud but never gets too obnoxious, the wait staff has always been kind and welcoming and on top of their game! my meal has always been made right, never had to send it back once since I've been going,I try different things every time I've gone,it has been a memorable experience each time, the flavors are there all the meats are well seasoned, they use really fresh and quality ingredients, can't wait for my next visit!

The food is always great here. My friend's order came out wrong last time I was there and the manager fixed it, and took care of both of our meals without either of us complaining or asking for anything like that. Free horchata as well! What excellent service and tasty food. They have recently added TV's which may add to or detract from the experience you're looking for.

If I can give zero stars, I would. This place does not deserve even one star. The salsa tastes like Pace Salsa. Their food has obviously been sitting under a lamp for hours. The beans were dry, the shrimp taste like rubber, and the chicken enchiladas are flavor less. All of their food is insipid. Worst Mexican food ever!!! This is not Mexican food. It's an insult to even call it mexican food. Good job Mi Ranchito, you guys have officially made it to the top worst food in Utah. Everyone who comes here must have bad taste buds...but then again, it IS Utah. Who knows what "good" food is for utahans.

This is my favorite Mexican food restaurant of all time. The owners continue to personally prepare the food to ensure the highest quality. The turnover is really low, therefore the employees are very knowledgeable and do a really good job because they want to work there long term. Every time I go to the restaurant I see the same employees/ family that has been there for years. Some of the servers/bussers are the children of the owners that have been around the restaurant their entire lives. The restaurant has been family run for 3 generations. A lot of family pride of ownership is felt with every visit. You can be sure that you will get great quality food and a friendly atmosphere. The environment is old school, authentic Mexican. It is a great place whether you're on a date or taking out the whole family. Every time my family comes to town, we are sure to pay Mi Ranchito a few visits. Thanks Armenta family for maintaining such a great restaurant!

I have been going to this place as long as I can remember, and every single time I go I am not disappointed! Their salsa is fabulous, chips warm, rice perfect, and the cheese melted on their refried beans is fabulous. I always get their two shredded beef tacos, and am honestly lost for words whenever I eat them. They have some sort of lime/italian dressing they put on their tacos, which is the icing on a perfect cake. Even my husband, who is a picky eater, loves their food. I crave it all the time. And it doesn't empty out your wallet. A combination plate (entree, rice, and beans) is about $8.00. As full time students, this is a restaurant that we don't mind using the little left over money we have on.

My favorite place to eat ever. I looovvveeeee their Shrimp Enchiladas! And they're huge! They're chips and salsa are the best. I've t tried other restaurants chips and salsa and end up disappointed and wishing I came here instead .. YOU CAN ALWAYS JUDGE A MEXICAN RESTAURANT BY THEY'RE SALSA.

Such horrible mexican food. They were good 5+ years ago. Don't know if they changed owners or what but the food is terrible.
(1)
Isobel O.
Definitely my favorite Mexican restaurant! Chips and salsa are great, and actually spicy! The shrimp flautas or shrimp quesadilla are my favorite, and you have to get a vanilla coke! The beans are good but the rice is so fantastic that you must substitute rice for the beans. Service is fantastic, we always tip at least 20% for these awesome waiters. When they saw my toddler devouring the avocado slices on my plate, they brought a separate plate of avocados just for her! Atmosphere is great, and you won't find a better place then this

This is by far my favorite Mexican place around! I have been coming here since I was little. Their meats are delicious, I love their beef tacos, enchiladas and tostada. Their chicken enchiladas have a unique flavor that is awesome! My husband loves their shrimp quesadilla and their Carne asada burrito. This is our go-to place when we need great food in a hurry
(5)
Devin B.
This place is so good! We always come here when we haven't eaten all day or we are really hungry. The portions are large and very good. Best chimichangas in town. The tacos are another gem here. They use this lime type of sauce which just hits the tacos out of the park. That and the extra crispy homemade shells
(5)
Marie A.
Solid 3 or of 5. The atmosphere is great. The decor and wait staff are friendly and inviting but the food was mediocre. We both got burritos. One chicken and one beef. They do have a group plate that feeds 4 that another table got that looked great. Might be back bit well definitely try something else.

I'm sorry. My brother thinks you're the best Mexican restaurant in town, but I just don't get it. I've been here three times in the past year (my first ever, then a second time to try them again, then a third time because bother made me come and paid) and each time the food was terribly bland. Good people and good salsa. But the shredded chicken and beef, when I've come, at least, has been dry and tasteless.
(2)
Jason M.
The food is okay..... The service wasn't too great. I think in a place like this we can easily find somewhere else to go that's a lot better
(2)
Christian J.
Portions were large but the food lacked flavor. The chips were great but the salsa was so-so. Overall, there seems to be better options in that price range. Cleanliness also seemed to be a problem when I was there. The entrance had a bad odor and we had to request new silverware because it was not clean:-(
(3)
Rod S.
The rating covers the pork nachos, otherwise, I'm not as enthralled with the rest of the menu. The nachos are quite good, huge and inexpensive. As a takeout it's a tasty big meal for two. The last time we dined in, the food was not so good and the mixed drinks are super sweet and unbalanced. I just didn't rate it. They are pretty much the only game in town -- especially if you want a drink. If they ever get competition, they'll have to up their game or hope people are willing to overlook a lot for cheap big portions of mediocrity. (That last comment was obviously rhetorical)
(3)
Ray M.
Server was nice, huge quantities. I had chile rellano- ok and chicken enchilada- very good. Rice and beans were a little dry but not bad. I liked the salsa although it wasn't thick it had good flavor. Chips were nothing special. If I could I would rate between 3 and 4 stars.
(4)
Cindy P.
The best mexican food in Orem/Provo! Love the chicken tacos, chicken/beef enchiladas and the chimis, and the rice is to die for. They can get crazy w/the cheese. We just take some off. Servers are friendly, drinks, chips and salsa keep coming. Can get busy but it's worth the wait. Portions are very generous. Prices are great. Open Sundays and they serve fire water- both a plus for us! Love this place, it's an old fave and have been coming for prob 30 yrs.
(5)
Tyler M.
One of the best places for Mexican in the valley. Salsa is just right for spicy and everything is great, especially the enchiladas de camarones Parking is tight but it's always easy to find a spot if you can wait 5 min
(4)
Curtis F.
They might have some decent items on the menu but overall, I find the ingredients lacking in quality and taste. Their salsa is horrid and their corn tortillas are low quality store-bought stuff that they slather in oil. I'd give them a one star rating but they do have some stuff on the menu that's decent (tacos al pastor, mole and a couple of others). If you like the Los Hermanos style a couple of notches above a TV dinner, then you might like this. Many other spots around the valley that are much better.
(2)
Bird M.
Awful. Everything is burnt and smothered in cheese. Their carnitas are not roasted pork, at least what we received. I would maybe pay 6 dollars for what I received, which costs me 12.

Went here for lunch with a work colleague- it's a place I've driven by on the vast wasteland of State Street and from the outside, you'd never stop...but do. It's great. Had their chicken and rice soup- MONSTROUSLY huge... love that in a soup. It was spiced just perfectly- maybe a tad more lime, but I'm a bit of a lime whore. It was served with a side of avocado, lime and pico-fabulous. Had a side of rice and beans (oh, did I mention the soup was huge?? I took home lunch for the next day- oh, and probably dinner too). Home made small flour tortillas... warm, good, fresh. Sigh. Food makes me happy. Go there...so much better than the homogenized chili's and other chain offerings that Orem has. Chips were salted just perfectly, light and the salsa was to die for. Service was just fine, nothing to rave about, but not a thing to complain about.
(4)
Sean M.
Tasteless, gigantic portions. I got carnitas and they had literally no seasoning on them whatsoever. Not even salt. My wife had a very authentic looking carne asada plate, but it, too, had no flavor. The rice, beans, everything - flavorless. Huge portions, though, so if your goal is to fill your tummy for cheap, this is a good bet. Oatmeal might do better though.
(2)
Erin Q.
This location is WAY better than the one in AF. The waiters aren't creepy, the portions are huge, and there's a huge mural of the Virgin Mary on the wall. Can it get better than this? I will say that the chips are store bought and not incredible, but overall I have nothing to complain about this place. They even have a little "market" at the front of the restaurant, complete with Bubbaloo bubble gum and the makings of a movie theatre concession stand.
(3)
Greg T.
Not great, but ok. My mother and father in law love this place. The service is good. I am not crazy about the sauce or salsa though.
(3)
Amber M.
Mi Ranchito has been on my list of places to visit when in Orem/Provo for nearly 20 years. The food is consistently great with many, many choices. The mole is fantastic and the red enchilada sauce rocks! The waitstaff is courteous, friendly, and attentive (but not overly-so). My only complaint echoes Erin Q with the store bought chips... Come on guys, there are like 6 tortillerias in town now. Have one of them start making some real chips for ya!
(4)
Amanda C.
Food is consistently good. I am never disappointed and find myself going back often. Service is not that friendly, but is right on always refilling the water and chips and salsa.

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

This place is so good! We always come here when we haven't eaten all day or we are really hungry. The portions are large and very good. Best chimichangas in town. The tacos are another gem here. They use this lime type of sauce which just hits the tacos out of the park. That and the extra crispy homemade shells

Solid 3 or of 5. The atmosphere is great. The decor and wait staff are friendly and inviting but the food was mediocre. We both got burritos. One chicken and one beef. They do have a group plate that feeds 4 that another table got that looked great. Might be back bit well definitely try something else.

The service is great, it's fast and always good. The tacos are my favorite, with special dressing on the lettuce. Good prices and atmosphere.

Been coming here since I was a kid. Good place to get Mexican. Good pricing and good service.

The food is okay..... The service wasn't too great. I think in a place like this we can easily find somewhere else to go that's a lot better

Portions were large but the food lacked flavor. The chips were great but the salsa was so-so. Overall, there seems to be better options in that price range. Cleanliness also seemed to be a problem when I was there. The entrance had a bad odor and we had to request new silverware because it was not clean:-(

Server was nice, huge quantities. I had chile rellano- ok and chicken enchilada- very good. Rice and beans were a little dry but not bad. I liked the salsa although it wasn't thick it had good flavor. Chips were nothing special. If I could I would rate between 3 and 4 stars.

One of the best places for Mexican in the valley. Salsa is just right for spicy and everything is great, especially the enchiladas de camarones Parking is tight but it's always easy to find a spot if you can wait 5 min

Not great, but ok. My mother and father in law love this place. The service is good. I am not crazy about the sauce or salsa though.

Food is consistently good. I am never disappointed and find myself going back often. Service is not that friendly, but is right on always refilling the water and chips and salsa.
