Stong work, Elaine French Bakery. The owner is a sweet French gent who bakes amazingly delicous pastries himself every morning. Sweets include custardy pain au raisin, luscious macaroons, and tender eclairs. He has a buttery Quiche Lorraine, as well as fresh baguettes every Wednesday and Satuday. Utahans, dont expect something intensely sweet. This is a traditional French bakery with amazing, authentic French pastries, breads and quiches. What a gem!

I've been to France multiple times and I was looking forward to this boulangerie et patisserie. However, I felt a bit disappointed by all the impressions Elaine's bakery gave me. Most reviews I've read are mostly positive but when I walked into the bakery the impressions I got was that this place seems to have some problems getting enough customers. Shelves are almost bare and variety of pastries looked rather sad. The entire place screamed bad times and there was no one behind the counter...? Overall, I felt really uncomfortable standing there in the empty and quiet shop... Someone finally showed up after 5 min and he seemed really eager for us to buy more and more. However, the only breads that were on display were 4 Brioches? This is a boulangerie, non? Also got some cigars and macaroons. I'm not going to discuss my pastries in depth because there was not much to it. I would like to assume I came too late in the day on a bad day, maybe? Well the lesson I learned is: if I want to enjoy nice French foods I should just get myself a plane ticket to France...

This place is so good! The owners are really nice and cute. I will come back any day.

Great little unexpected bakery ! The Napoleon was delicious-- light, crunchy, buttery layers with custard goodness, the cigar also had a really nice pastry wrapping up a nice light chocolate custard..the lemon tart and eclairs were tasty as well. There was a whole table with 11-12 yo boys all eating various pastries next to us-- they said they come everyday. Try it out!

Best pastries in all of Utah. Every time I go I try new pastries, and I've yet to find something that's not good.

Such a beautiful variety of delicious eats! For the best bang for the sweet buck I get the pastries stuffed with cream cheese. Merci!

Great authentic French Bakery. The owners are from French Tahiti and learned there how to make real pastries. We've been looking for a good place to buy eclairs and this is it! Would totally recommend it if you are looking for pastries and for a good price. These are the best I've found south of American Fork. If you are up in American Fork though try Dough Boys and Girls.

Get the napoleon that's all I have to say. They have a great variety of desserts. There seems to be new things every time I go. We've made it a weekly tradition. It's a great bakery and the owner is friendly and greets every customer. It's the place to stop in for a great dessert.

It was a Friday. I was in Provo. There were multiple bakeries involved. This is my life. After stuffing myself on a college mixer lunch (long story) I decided to tour the valley a bit and partake of baked goods. I'm not very familiar with Provo, but Eliane showed up on the Yelp app and I'm not one to ever avoid any promise of a pastry. When I arrived.... well, let me back up. Before I arrived I had to back up. I drove past it, then by the address turned in to the small development and only found it on the south end when I saw the sign that said French bakery. It's on State St, but it doesn't really feel like it's immediately ON State Street. More like, turn in at about 1700 and take the frontage parking lot. Well, she ain't much to look at on the outside or on the inside. But she's not that bad. Just... not "cutesie" or really even decorated at all. I walked in to find a rather large welcome area with a single cash register and several large bakery cases. They weren't very highly populated, so it did feel a little lonely. Plus there wasn't a human in sight. Soon enough the owner (I presume) came out and greeted me. With a smooth French accent he asked what I wanted, and I opted for the pain au chocolat--one of 6 in the case. It was either this or an eclair, but with several bakeries on my list I thought it best to avoid the heavy stuff. A couple of dollars later and I was on my way. The proof is in the pastry, and this didn't disappoint. Light, buttery, but not so very dry as many other croissants are wont to be. No, this was just the right texture and with just enough chocolate. This fella knows what he's doing. I'd go back to try more stuff in a heartbeat. So I can't say much for the business side, and it could use some polish when it comes to the presentation and marketing--but I wouldn't change a thing in the ovens.

Nice people. Good brioche. I worry that they don't get enough business, as some of their stuff didn't look as fresh as they'd like it. The owner is very nice, and what I bought was a pretty good value. We made french toast that night with the brioche, then used the leftovers for croque madam sandwiches the next day. Very good.

Ever have one of those days were you just crave for something ..... FRENCH!! Well, you might not believe this but this place is LEGIT!! From the outside it really doesn't look like anything special but once you go inside you know that you are about to eat something special. Every time I stop by for some quick craving cruncher I am met by the same friendly owner. He has the strongest french accent and really makes you feel like you are in France. One thing to watch out for is that he is always trying to get you to buy more. But because he is so friendly and nice it sometimes hard to say no to one more strawberry tart. This place is really good guys. Don't miss out.

The most delicious sweets! And the French guy who owns it is so nice. Great macarons and little cakes. Haven't had the breads or quiche but they look excellent.

I like going here but prefer the artisan baguettes that have a more robust crumb. The patisseries, however, are stellar.

The mille-feuille (napoleon) was soggy, and the flan (their take on creme caramel?) was curdled. I forced both of them down because I hate to waste food. The tarts were also a tad burnt, and the shells were rock hard. The baguettes were not very crusty or authentic - essentially white bread shaped into baguette-like tubes. The flavors were nothing notable, and most of the pastries lacked the proper amount of butter and flakiness. The owners are very friendly, and I would be thrilled to see a full-fledged patisserie in this area, but I am a little bummed that I spent $20 on a bunch of incredibly mediocre pastries. I think this place has potential if they use higher quality ingredients and continue to practice or go to pastry school.

Out of the goodies I've sampled, my faves: butter croissant, pain au chocolat, cream puff, lemon tart, chocolate eclair, and the fruit tart is my favorite in the valley (ha, I consider myself a connoisseur of fruit tarts). The texture of the crust is not too hard/crispy (though someone complains about it being rock hard in another review, maybe a bad day for the fruit tarts?), and the cream is delicious and doesn't have that shortening/waxy feel on the tongue. I would love to see fresh peaches rather than canned though... The owner is incredibly friendly. His mother's name is Eliane. He is from the once occupied French-occupied Tahiti with a thick French accent--so super nice. He sticks to the French custom of saying "Bonjour" when entering and "Au revoir" when saying good bye, in fact, he says it more than once until you say it back.

Today I was out driving around running some errands with my wife. While driving down state street I saw a sign for a French bakery. Having lived in France I decided I simply had to stop and enjoy a chocolate eclair. Worried that it was so late in the day (5:00 PM) I was very happy to find one last chocolate eclair. Seeing as the owner must have been in the back, I yelled "hello?" To see if anyone would come up front to help me purchase my prized treasure. Eventually a man did come up front and asked me what I would like. I told him I would love a chocolate eclair. I then asked him if they accept credit cards. He told me yes but that there was a $5 minimum. I said ok. In my effort to start a conversation about France, I asked him if this was his store, he replied with a simple "yes". I then asked him if he was from France, he said he was. I then proceeded to tell him that I used to live there and asked him where he was from in France. He said "Paris". I told him that I loved Paris and asked him where in Paris he had lived? He then looked at me and asked me "why do you want to know?" Realizing that I had obviously made the man uncomfortable, I apologized and told him I had only good intentions, that I meant no harm and had only asked because I loved France. Obviously unaffected by my apology, he went on to say "why do you ask so many questions?" And then said "I don't like that you ask so many questions". I apologized again and restated that I really meant no harm. He continued to scold me for having asked too many personal questions. Somewhat confused by how I could have annoyed this man to such a degree I handed him my car to which he responded that there was a $5 minimum for credit cards. I quickly realized that I had become So distracted by the awkward conversation that had transpired, I realized the eclairs was only $3 or so. Desiring only to get leave the store and end the conversation I pointed to the nearest thing I could find which was labeled "peach cake". I asked the man what was in it and he said "peaches". At this point I was done. Having never been treated in such a way at ANY establishment even subway or mccdonalds ( and I've had my fair share of awkward encounters with teenage employees as such places, but who can blame them, most people work in fast food at some point growing up so I completely understand the lack of patience working in fast food or even the restaurant industry in general. I must add that I've worked in the restaurant industry for nearly 8 years now and I'm I really nice person. This is the first time I have actually ever posted a review on yelp. But I can honestly never say that I have walked out of a place and vowed to never go back until today. I am so disappointed. The pastries that I did end up purchasing were not impressive. However I will admit that this was probably the result of my horrible experience as well as the fact that it was 5:00 in the evening and the pastries were probably on their last leg and undoubtedly much better earlier on in the day when they would have been fresh. From the other reviews, it seems as though my experience was not normal. Perhaps the owner was having a bad day, who knows. But one thing is for sure, I had an awful experience today. Which is too bad, because I will avoid returning here at all costs.

I saw a few reviews of this place and decided to check it out. Great decision. The owner was very friendly and helpful, and the treats were pretty amazing. I had the chocolate cigar (very tasty, but too rich to eat in one sitting) and a fruit tart (the best I've ever had). The atmosphere was dull and empty feeling, and the prices were probably a tad bit higher than other bakeries (kneaders, etc.), but the quality was probably the best I've had (tied with the desserts from La Jolla Groves in Riverwoods). I'll be returning to try more, and recommend it if you're in the area.

An authentic French bakery in Orem, Utah? You bet your quiche! And they serve quiche too... The pastries are amazing. I just wish the location was more centrally located, this place deserves tons of business!! We sampled about four different pastries~ napoleons, tarts, mousse cake, croissants and each was a mouthwatering delight... Give the French Bakery a visit....it's practically like visiting Paris without the crowds and jet lag!

I LOVE THIS PLACE! The owner is such a nice guy and the stuff he makes is great. All I can say is two words, Chocolate Cigar. If I were a weaker man, I would end up weighing 300 Lbs.

This is the best bakery I have been to in Utah Valley. Easily. The food is delicious, the sweet treats are delicious. I've gone to other places that people rave about, but Eliane's always makes every other bakery pale in comparison. They have the best pastries in the valley and it's the best little hole in the wall place I have ever found in my life. I tell all my friends about it.

Absolutely love this bakery. I consider myself a bit of a bakery snob, but this is hands down the best bakery in the state of Utah. If you are looking for a cake bakery this is not your place, but if you like french pastries this is the place for you.
