Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Ok, the only way I can describe this is strange and a bit confusing. First , when you walk in 3 ft from the door are hostesses and a big wall. If there was a big crowd you would have to wait outside because there is literally no room between the door and the wall. Hostess was very nice. I can't put my thumb on it, but the decor and lighting was just offsetting and didn't seem to flow right.. The TVs on the wall were on but the picture needed to be adjusted. All the newscasters were green. The menu was greasy diner food and I thought expensive. Yes the helpings are big, but you could tell the ingredients were cheap. 20-30$ for a steak in a cafe/diner? No thanks. The food was really just ok. Nothing more to say about that. It was very slow getting our meals. They have a full bar (sort of ) which again is weird considering it's diner food. Jack and coke with my chicken fried steak? When I say sort of , I mean the bar is there but they can't use it. They have to pour in the back where kids can't see... Something about them missing a deadline for the proper type of liquor license. The staff were all really cool. Very friendly and up beat. I honestly gave 3 stars just to not totally slam a new local business..I will be interested however to see the reviews in a couple of months. Good luck guys.

We decided to try this place because I read about it in the paper. I was pleased with the service, they were very attentive and nice. They did not have a lot available, I asked for wine but they had none. There was also no draft beer I was told they really just had hard liquor and some bottled beer. Next, I tried to order artichoke dip, they were out of it as well. We ordered the jalapeño poppers and mozzarella sticks, they tasted like something you can buy in the frozen food section and the marinara sauce tasted like they just dumped a can of crushed tomatoes out and heated it up. They also cover the plates with ice. Berg lettuce in an attempt to make it look nice but, in my opinion it just looks bad especially since the lettuce wilts and looks rotten from the heat of the apps. I had the 8oz sirloin medium rare. It was awful. It was about one minute away from being well done and was not seasoned at all, there was also a weird propane taste to it(that's the best way I can describe it) I had two bites and gave up on it. The baked potato was good and the veggies were cooked well but, they ruined it by putting the powdered Parmesan all over it. My husband had the prime rib which was not to great either, although it was far better than my steak. I have now read that the breakfast is good but I did not see the reviews before we went. If that's the case they really just need some work on dinner and they could probably be successful.

This place seems to suffer from an identity crisis. Cross between wanna be sports bar, modern restaurant, and cafe. The place was bright enough to do surgery in. Very friendly staff. Food was just ok. Nothing special. Was told by the waitress that five workers quit that night. Not sure the reason or if that affected the food quality.

"Now THAT's a mighty, tasty burger." The Pelican has hometown, cafe styled food. The restaurant had a large footprint which, for some odd reason, doesn't match the food. This is what you expect in the 30 seat diner. The burgers are big. Plenty of styles and varieties to choose from and even one of those gimmicky, challenge-size burgers. Of course, everything here is served big. From the 64 ounce drinks to the plate load of Navajo Tacos. If you leave anything but "stuffed" you did something wrong. Or had a coronary from all those fries. Speaking of fries, they were big. Like a plate of Lincoln Logs with an awesome taste. Hand cut and just greasy enough to make them yummy. They serve breakfast all day. They serve lunch all day. They serve dinner all day. The only thing that doesn't get served all day is Le Booze so I'm not sure why the meals are segregated on the menu. (Perhaps for the OCD that cannot handle omelets listed next to pastas). The staff was great on my visit and everyone checks on you, not just your main server. Nice touch. Next trip will be for breakfast. I hear it's big.

The Pelican Café aka The Pelican Restaurant and Pub has taken over the old TGI Fridays in Riverdale/Ogden. The décor is nice the service very friendly and prompt and they have a wide variety on the menu. They server all menu items all day, so I was able to get a Chili Burger for breakfast while the wife was able to go for a traditional breakfast. The chili burger was good, two patties smothered in a flavorful meat and bean chili covered in cheese severed with a heaping pile of fresh cut fries, very tasty. The wife got the Sausage, hash browns and eggs and swapped her toast for a scone for a small up-charge. She really enjoyed her meal, she found the sausage links to be particularly good, the hash browns to be flavorful and the eggs cooked as ordered. The scone was large and a bit doughy inside (the way I like it) and was severed with honey butter. In summary, good food, reasonable prices, nice décor and friendly service makes for a good meal. They have a full liquor license for those that come after 11:30 and like to indulged in libations.

First impressions are usually wrong in my hunt for great food. I notice that the smaller and less attractive an establishment might seem, almost always quality of food is extremely amazing. That was not the case with The Pelican. Being new to Utah and coming from a spoiled California food guru state I have a somewhat bias opinion of what food should taste like. Atmosphere was great. Decor was spot on. Customer service GREAT! Time it took from order to it being in front of us was 10 min, which given the fact that I ordered a steak, is not bad. At first glance I was highly disappointed with my steak and sides. Then at first bite...it was definite. I hated the food! My steaks was smothered in garlic. And I mean CHUNKS of garlic. It was underdone and I could taste the spray used to grease up the grill in preparation for my steak. My eggs were bland and tasted as if they had just been sitting in a skillet for a few hours and as people ordered they were plated. My hash browns were unsalted and lacked an flavor and color. To complete this review I am highly disappointed with this establishment and would not recommend nor revisit this location again.

Let's just say the experience wasn't great and if it is still around I may try it again.

Not only is this place strange how the building is huge and the menu suits an eight table cafe, but the food is awful! Very limited menu which is OK if you serve a few great entree's, but out of our 4 meals none were worthy of a return visit. The staff was friendly and dressed like the usual Ogden transient. My wife's menu had a dead bug in it which we should have taken as a sign! I give this place two months tops I wish it were better! If they want to make it, the building is perfectly suited for a bar/ club with room for a dance floor!

This seems like a great new place to eat. Food was good and there was plenty of it. The service was really fast and the server was attentive but not overbearing. I will be coming back.

The food was ok, I had the Pelican Burger with a Salad today. The burger itself was pretty plain- honestly didn't look like much- like a burger you'd slap together yourself slathered in fry sauce (or whatever sauce it was). The patty wasn't seasoned at all and the toppings for the burger were kind of warm. The buns were slathered with butter or margarine- which is a little off putting. The kaiser buns on the burger were so so, not much to say there. The salad I got was fairly warmish (which should be pretty cold)- which makes me wonder if there are some things that have been sitting under room temperature for a while. Both were edible and had a decent taste, but I don't think the burger was worth the $8-$9. I'd be willing to go back and try something different, my co-workers said their omelettes were pretty good! I'd probably avoid the burgers (but maybe it was just this one time it was made who knows). The waitress we had was very friendly and we appreciated her company.

Real mashed potatoes! Real turkey! Need I say more? These guys don't skimp on product. It's real food, not processed plastic food. Huge portions, good prices, and a fun atmosphere. Waiter was great. Everything tasted like mom made it.

we wanted to try something new and very glad we did. everyone was very nice here we had a waiter who was great and the waitress working around him also helped us which was nice. price isn't too bad for the amount of food you get. can tell they're still adjusting to just opening but didn't have any issues. menu is a little limited but I imagine it will expand once they're adjusted. also they serve breakfast lunch and dinner all day. great place and definitely coming back to try lunch!

The people were super cool and very friendly. They made great recommendations. We had scones (breakfast served all day) and everything was super cheap and portions are large. We honestly can't wait to come back and try the rest of the menu.

Great Hamburgers! Seems like the burgers are made homemade and aren't pre made frozen patties. Service was a little slow but the waitress was super friendly and willing to get whatever we needed.

What can I say on a positive note for this place. hmm I cant. Ok maybe seeing the local alcohols on display. Service- There were a total of 3 seated tables including ours. We were sat and a girl that was nice asked us what drinks we wanted. I got a soda. She brought it after a few mins. Then she came back us thinking it was order time. She said I'm not the server He is somewhere. Finally after 15 mins. Server came took our order. They were out of some of the stuff we wanted. We received our food I asked for refill on my soda that I never received. We were there a little over 1 hour and saw him a total of 3 times. To take order, give us food, and to toss us the check. so to sum that up I say 100% failure. Food- where to start I got Fish and Chips. The fish was from a frozen bag They were a little slimy in the middle the chips were good. Wife got a Bacon Burger, It looked over cooked and a bit dry. Navajo Taco- dime sized scone with what looked like canned chili and cheese and some greens on top nothing to great. Ok far from great. my dad had the special Open faced Turkey sandwich. What can I say. He said turkey was a waffer meat turkey, to me it looked like the turkey you buy in a box that you cook in the bag with the gravy. The mashed potatoes looked good. All in all for a new place you should really up the game. Get better servers and cooks.

We were very disappointed. First, we had to wait for someone to realize we were waiting to be seated, and once we were seated and given menus it only got worse. It was a horrible menu. Limited choices on the menu and definitely not something for everyone. No kids menus. Prices were ridiculous. We ended up leaving before ordering. The waiter did not seem surprised when we told him we would pay for our drinks, but not ordering. Will never be back! I don't see them lasting long in that area.

We came here after reading an article posted in the newspaper. It sounded so good so we thought we would give it a try. We show up and a couple was leaving telling us it's not worth waiting. We still decided to go in and to our surprise, the tables were empty and at least 8-9 couples were waiting to be seated! Wait! 10-15 minutes to be seated while the tables were open? Yes! The poor girl that had to explain to everyone that they are understaffed and they had at least a 15 min wait to be seated sure does deserve something for her having to put up with some irate people. Well on that note is when we decided to leave. Maybe I'll give it a try when they get staff they truly need.

The Pelican is... Different. It's good. The food is as good as I expected it to be. I didn't go to a diner expecting gourmet food and wait staff with sticks up their butts. But in the same token, I was disappointed when it took 10 minutes for two to be seated when there were 5 set tables and no other groups waiting. When we were seated, the server let us know that the hostess failed to tell her she sat us in her area. She took our drink order (water) and then came back soon to take our food order. At that point we ordered our food along with a mixed drink. Alas, no water even 5 minutes after our food order. Water came with our food, but at this point we didn't have silver ware. The waitress again appeared flustered and blamed the hostess for the lack of silverware. She brought back silverware and assured us our drinks were on our way. After my meal was finished, the waitress brought our bar drinks and apologized on behalf of the bar, saying how slow they were and how they need to step it up. I wished she wouldn't blame everyone else. Anyway, the food was pretty good, and management came and apologized for me getting my beer after dinner and decided to hook a brotha up. A 32oz draft beer, mind you. All in all, I didn't expect to be eating at the Belagio. I'll be back.
