I liked this place quite a bit . . . once upon a dream. Then either "The Railroad" changed or I did. The house salad looks like a bunny barfed up on it. The creamy sauces are always too heavy. The pasta always seems overcooked and under-salted. The marinara tastes canned and too ketchup-y tomato-paste-y. Pizza and calzone crusts are too thick and tough. The baked dishes often taste more like what a well-intentioned Relief Society neighbor would bring over than what one expects for a good night out eating moderately-priced Italian food.

Not very good at all!! I'm sure most of the food came from frozen bags. I could have spent half as much at Walmart and made a much better meal!! The "house salad" was a joke! It was nothing but broke up lettuce in a small bowl ( I thought it was a paper bowl at first) And then the meal! As soon as it hit the table I knew we had made a mistake! I didn't even need to eat it. And at $11.00 to $13.00 a diner, it was a rip off! And then the service! Talk about bad. They where rude and off putting and after sitting there for a good 30 minutes we had to go ask for a ticket so we could leave! Me and my wife try a new place every pay day and this was our 12th time and it is by far the worst!!

Not good at all. Atmosphere reminds me of a diner. Food tasted as if it had been frozen and microwaved. Do yourself a favor and get a microwaveable dinner from the grocery store ...it will be cheaper, and taste better.

5 Couples and everyone was MOSTLY happy. The ambiance is great with the old brick wall and Italian decor. My wife and I split the Tour of Italy and really enjoyed it. The price point at La Ferrovia is a little high but the food is decent nonetheless. Enjoy!

Bleh. We thought we were going to another place, couldn't find it, and decided to try this. Mistake. I think everything came out of the freezer when we ordered it. The "salad" was iceberg lettuce. The "alfredo" sauce tasted like 1% milk and parmesan. There were lots of kids, and I guess that should have told us something.

Located on historic 25th street, La Ferrovia is an italian favorite of many residents in Ogden alongside Ligori's and the Old Pasta Factory (the Olive Garden is excluded from this list.) Try anything with the marinara sauce and you won't be disappointed. The garlic bread served on the side is a perfect compliment to any entree.

With a fantastic combination of sauces and excellent pasta, this restaurant deserves more love. The Chef's Combination was one of the best pasta-based dishes I've had the pleasure to enjoy in Ogden. The service was great and the food was served at a timely rate. This is the first time I been tempted to use this service to rate a restaurant, and there's a good reason for it.

The pasta is really good, especially for the price. It's a good deal in a pleasant atmosphere and the server my group had was very helpful and polite. He took the time to fully explain things, offered samples of the dressings, and went over the wine list patiently. I had the Pollo Alla Griglia dish and it was cooked wonderfully. With the delicious bread to dip in the sauce at the end, it was a great meal. Everyone had a good portion size, and was happy. Some things I would have liked are more substance to the salad, as well as a selection of coffees would have been nice.

I was excited to try this based off of the reviews. I must have gone on a bad night, because the lasagna was just blah. The salad was very wet, like they had just rinsed the lettuce and then forgot to drain it. Service was very 50's diner style. How many? 1. Sit there. Oh ok. The waiter who was very occupied doing something else, asked what I'd like to drink, I said water, he brings me a glass and a pitcher. Oh, don't worry, I'll take care of pouring that. I realized that they had a party going on and it was very obvious that they knew the people very well, but service sucked, and so did the food. Their sauce, which on the menu says is their signature sauce, was very thick and reminded me of Ragu straight out of the can. If you're wanting good Italian, don't go here.

Who has a local, inexpensive made to order, Italian food in their little town? Ogden has it! This is NOT a "jacket required" sort of place. The food is bold and delicious. If you had an Italian mama, and she loved you, THIS is the food she'd make for you. Affordable, delicious, respectable beer and wine selection - eat here if you want home style Italian grub.

This place is famous for being bad. I have no idea how they stay in business. They consistently screw up everything they cook. The pasta is usually over-cooked and slathered with what I can only conceive is generic, canned tomato paste. It reminds me of something a 6 year old would try and make to surprise you. What's worse is you are paying a "professional" to cook this crap. This is in my top 3 worst restaurants of all time.

A big disappointment. When I think Italian food my mind goes immediately to lasagna. Which is what most of us ordered. We had a table for 10 and not one of us enjoyed their meal. The noodles for the mac and cheese and chicken Alfredo were overcooked, and the sauce tasted like Ragu from the grocery store. The lasagna was gross. Overcooked pasta, the sauce was underseasoned and bland, unless you count acid as a flavor, it was very acidic. I didn't care for the carrot dressing, but some at the table did like it. The service was good, drinks came promptly. they didn't ask if anyone liked the food, I think that was because no one ate, even though we were very hungry, and no one wanted to go boxes. 2 stars are for the service, no stars for the food.

La Ferrovia is one of my favorite restaurants in Ogden. Brian's review is bull. The pasta is cooked to order, is always cooked al dente, is always so hot you can barely eat it at first. The tomato sauce is great, salad is good. Service has always been good. I think the Brian eats at chuck a rama often.

Some reviewers, here, who claim that "This is not Italian food" do not know what they're talking about. I grew up in and around Italian families, and this is genuine "homestyle" Italian. If you think Olive Garden, and Rovali's etc. serve what real, everyday Italians eat, then you are confusing "Americanized Italian" with the real McCoy. Having said that, I don't really like to eat here since the younger generation took over the operation. The pasta is usually either over- or undercooked. the beef cutlet has been tough and chewy, the calzones cold in the middle. But--The carrot vinaigrette salad dressing is Perfection in a Bottle. some have called it "runny and weak" but they wouldn't know a vinaigrette if it splashed in their eye.

I've been coming here for years (consistently since 1998). Even after moving to Bountiful, I make an extra trip to stop in when I can. They know me on sight. They always sit me at one of my two favorite tables, next to the window, whenever possible. I always get the same thing; the cannelloni (with the side of Alfredo and pasta, soup instead of salad, diet coke, and bread). They hardly even bother asking me if I want a menu or what I will be ordering any more. They just bring my Diet Coke and put the cannelloni on. Back when things were even more busy they would make a delicious italian dessert that they would set aside and give to their best customers as a Christmas take home treat. Now my parents and family are big fans as well. So I may not be the most partial critic at this point but I'll tell you these people are wonderful and while there have been a few times when the Alfredo has shifted it's consistency or bread hasn't been right out of the oven, far and away the quality has been terrific. I'm always happy with the service, food, and experience. And I can't say enough nice things about the staff and family who own this place. Notes: The secret of the Cannelloni is the slow mix of the Alfredo with the tomato sauce. Once you finish the pasta the two sauces mix nicely. You then use their delicious bread to finish off the sauce. It's the best part of an already wonderful meal. The Alfredo is my favorite Alfredo in the state, but I do like to add a dash of salt. Not everyone wants that so it's nice that I just always know to add that for myself. You have to ask to get the soup instead of salad. They rotate between about 6-7 usual flavors. I believe it's the Lintel I'm least fond of but over all I enjoy their soups. Sometimes I wish they had refills. Clam chowder is typically my favorite. Ask for crackers. I don't eat salad but hands down everyone I know says their house dressing (which looks like 'baby food') is surprisingly very delicious. I've been told that their food is very Italian. But it's more of a homestyle, or common style of italian food. Either way it's definitely my comfort food.

This is a good Italian restaurant. They have a pasta combo that is 2 kinds of pasta half red sauce, half white sauce with bread and a salad and it is really good. It ends up being about 7 dollars a person. The best pasta is their tortellini with white sauce that they have on Fridays. If you get a salad make sure and get the carrot dressing. It is really good. The spinach calzone is good as well. The reason they get three stars is because my mom smashed her finger on a faulty chair and it's been messed up since.

This place might not be high class or have gourmet food, but if you want hearty authentic Italian this place is a must. I first discovered it while taking Italian at the nearby university and my teacher turned out to be one if the people that founded it along with her sister who still operates it. I have to disagree with the criticisms applied to La Ferrovia by previous reviewers. I expect they had a bad experience and I do not doubt their reviews. However, the restaurant has been in for more than 20 years for a reason. They usually deliver wonderful, fresh made Italian cuisine. I ate there today and it is still the same delicious pasta that I have been dining on since they opened. I just returned from 10 days in Venice and Tuscany and La Ferrovia equals any of the family owned businesses I dined at in Italy. NO, this is not a fancy restaurant and the fare is pretty standard Italian cuisine. However, this is home-made pasta (not frozen) and authentic. I usually have the Pollo Alla Grigilia (Parmesan Style) with tortellini all panna. I have never been disappointed. This is a family owned business. This is not "Olive Garden" and if you have an issue with your food, ask to speak to Giuseppina (she is from Naples). It is very likely she will be in the kitchen and she probably prepared your food. I am certain she would want to hear your complaint. Her family care very deeply about their business and a word from a customer means a lot.

Stay far, far, far away. I ended years of tradition of going to La Ferrovia after being treated by the "in my face" younger female manager, who knew me as a regular, like absolute garbage when she muffed up our takeout order. I can understand missing an item or two through the phone conversation, but only taking down 1 item when we ordered 8 (not all the same thing either), are you serious? She was COMPLETELY unapologetic, told me "well what do you expect me to do about it", and in general acted like she could have cared less. It took a monumental effort by my sister to talk with one of the other managers to get our order all worked out, at least he tried to be accommodating after our 3rd time talking to them. As one of the family member staff, she should be absolutely ashamed of the way she treated a family who in the past has supported her business. Cya forever La Ferrovia, we won't be back and I'll make sure to let people know about our experience. Good riddance and goodbye.

I used to love this place but had not been there in a while. My how things have changed. My beef cutlet wasn't even warm, still partly frozen inside. The marinara that I used to love now tastes like it came from a can, and not even a good brand, hunts is better (yes it was that bad). The white sauce is still the same, but the noodles were over cooked and mushy. You would think an Italian place would know what al dente meant. Also it used to be a lot cheaper. It's been a long time since I was that disappointed in a meal.

One of the worst meals we have had in Ogden. Things tasted frozen and not fresh. Everything was heavy, thick, and not very flavorful. Service was not great. We have been to Italy, this is not Italian food. This is Italian food that you buy in the frozen food isle. In Italy things are fresh, light, and very flavorful. We had both pasta and pizza. Ok, this is NOT your grandma's (if you're Italian) cooking but it is inexpensive, lots of it and it is quite tasty. No, I don't think they make the marinara every day and yes, sometimes the pasta is a bit overcooked. But, it's a little homey, friendly place and I found the Cotoletta ala Bolognese to be quite palatable. It was basically an Italian steak swimming in marinara with some melted mozzarella, some pasta alfredo and a piece of garlic bread but it was very filling and I ended up taking some back to my hotel room for later. The salad was pretty much Iceberg but I'm not an Icebergophobe and they have this delightful carrot vinaigrette that is simply scrummy! I took some tiramasu home. Don't do it. Not very good and the server admitted to me that they bought it already prepared.

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
