The food and service were okay, but not great. I came here because my name is Karen and I wanted to get a T-shirt. They didn't have any. Darn.

Went here after hearing good things about the food and was disappointed that things were not as good as we had heard. We both ordered breakfast, the wife's was conventional fare and was OK. I ordered the "Famous Chili Verde"? My Verde was ice cold, evidently they did not microwave the refrigerated sauce for long enough. That aside I guess it was ok but not up to the hype.
(3)Julie K.
Still a default breakfast place for us. The California omelette has become a new favorite. They accommodated a salad for breakfast for one our party during a cleanse. The big bubba and chile verde burrito were all hits. Perhaps not the destination if you're in a hurry but a great place to catch up with friends.

Would be nice if they told you on a sign or menu that they only serve breakfast on Sundays, my mouth was watering for a monte cristo sandwich...a bit disappointing. Why stay open in the afternoon if you don't serve a sandwich? BUT they did redeem themselves w an awesome peach muffin. Should advertise that on their menu!

Flies. Flies EVERYWHERE. Honestly there were so many flies buzzing around that it really detracted from pretty darn good diner food. The pancakes really satisfied a craving, and my coworker fell in love with the Monte Cristo. The service was just so-so (forgot my soda but still tried to charge for it), the food great, but the flies...ugh. Wouldn't go back because of the flies.

There is not a better place in Ogden for a good down home breakfast. Karen's has been cooking up delicious home style food for years. It is consistently one of my favorite breakfast spots and for good reason. The hash browns are always perfect; the coffee is always hot; and the sausages are big and tasty. Walking into Karen's is like experiencing a perfect piece of Americana. The western interior, 25th Street location and comfortable seating are exactly what you want when you are seeking a nice big American breakfast. The cowgirl waitresses sling up your food with a smile and a little bit of attitude. In all, it's a great way to start your day. Karen's is also a great place for lunch or dinner. If you like home style meat and potato fare, this will fit the bill. Try the "Chicken Chicken," a personal favorite of mine. When I went through a home remodel a couple years ago, Karen's was the one place which made me feel like my kitchen was still in service. Any restaurant can have an off day. If anyone doesn't get the service or food they expect, ask to talk to Karen. She is usually in the back cooking and she will definitely make it right. She expects the best from her staff and will not hesitate to make things right.

Had an EXCELLENT breakfast yesterday at Karen's! I've been there several times, and it has always been good, but yesterday was great! They had a steak and eggs special. I was a little leery getting a steak at a diner fearing they wouldn't cook it right, or it wouldn't be seasoned right, etc. I was sure surprised! The steak was cooked exactly how I asked for it (medium rare), and it was seasoned perfectly. The eggs were also cooked perfectly, and I had the "Cheesy potatoes", which were yummy as well. The whole meal was perfect, and I sent my compliments to the chef. Way to go Karen's!

Everything is great on the breakfast menu.....except for the coffee. The coffee is horrible! This sometimes is a make or break deal when it comes to a breakfast outing! Love the french toast, service and the prices are reasonable. A local favorite!

We're big fans of breakfast at my place- if I could choose any meal to eat out at a restaurant, that would be it! One of our favorite places to stop in is Karens Cafe. Childrens meals are $2-$3; which makes it super affordable to take the family. My children love to order the Mickey pancake, a giant Mickey Mouse shaped pancake with a bacon smile, more than enough food for each kid and super affordable. The service can be slow on busy breakfast days (Friday, Saturday and Sundays) but we usually go on weekdays and receive excellent service and friendly staff. We did have one experience with unfriendly service, but I have not seen that employee since. We have dined with as few as two people and as many as 7 and always enjoyed ourselves. My husband raves about the grits, and the biscuits and gravy. I have had many breakfast plates here but my favorite is the french toast. When I'm not as hungry I will order the eggs potatoes and toast, for 4.95 I get two perfectly cooked eggs, toast, and a pile of hashbrowns or O'Briens. For under $20 my whole family has a delicious and filling breakfast in a friendly local restaurant. Just a note: I have only ever had breakfast at Karens, so I cant speak to the lunch or dinner menu, but I've heard great things. They have daily specials, which I've noticed they update on facebook!

So much potential, and so little achievement. It starts at the door with a "restrooms for customers only sign." Really? Really?? Is there such an onslought of transients needing to pee that you have to post a sign? Negative signage is well, so negative. Entering the restaurant it looks likea cutesy little diner. When you start looking closely you see the identity crisis. Country music is playing on the Muzak ( the slow, twangy kind) and there is some western decor. But there is also some 50's decor and a bunch of Elvis stuff. Painting with a broad brush here, but the waitstaff seems right out of the truck-stop diner and kind of the "B" squad. The location for this restaurant should call for a litlle more upscale service and help. Quit hiring Uncle Kenny's third-cousin's gum-chewing daughter and find some good waitresses. Even Flo from One Day at a Time would be perfect here. She fits the decor AND she was a good waitress. Grit-kissing and everything. The food was less than memorable. I had a hamburger. It was just that. Nothing really good and nothing really bad. I did try a piece of supposedly famous carrot cake. Not sure how or why it is famous but I don't see it featured on the Food Network any time soon. Probably a place I'll skip next time.

When I visited Ogden, UT I ate at "Karen's Historic 25th Street Cafe". I had breakfast there. I had good food and good service.
(5)Roaming E.
If you like mass produced cafeteria style food, this is the place for you. Yuck. Everything tastes like it has been re-heated for a couple of days. I've had to go there several times for lunch meetings and I finally learned to eat before I go.
(1)Kevin D.
Not sure why the poor ratings. I stopped in for breakfast and it was great. 2 eggs toast potatoes and coffee for $6. Service was good it the place was clean. I was thinking about hitting it for diner as well.
(4)Shannon T.
Came in for a stop while visiting Weber St. with my sister. * Pretty standard cafe sandwiches, burgers, etc. * Reasonable prices. * Quick service and a solid meal. * I'd return.
(3)Jake B.
I'm not sure why it has such poor reviews either. Maybe the people went there just for salad (basically icerberg lettuce) or side vegetables (relatively unseasoned and undelicious). I've eaten at Karen's 3 times, and have had great entrees 3 times. The caramelized salmon with Karen's sauce was my favorite.
(4)Craig R.
I ate here the first time i visited Ogden and have been coming back ever since. Ive been living in Utah for about a year and a half now Im from Los Angeles and in the Ogden area there aren't many good places to eat. and I have been to tons and for breakfast you better go to Karens! I eat here every Sunday with my family and sneak off some weekdays to eat by myself. If you love good food at good prices then you better go to Karens!
(5)Lisa J.
I think it has great interior design, but service is not great and slow, and they didn't care to help a vegan get vegan food.
(1)Steven C.
greasy (even for a cafe like this) food, not very friendly staff, blah atmosphere
(1)Amber M.
Karen's crummy chicken is a go to! I love it! I wish I knew the recipe, I would make it all the time! It's like Sunday dinner at Grandmas, (if your grandma was a bomb cook). Breakfast's are great to, inexpensive and all the basics you want for breakfast. I have never eaten a meal at Karens I didn't like!
(5)Patricia E.
Totally good food and service. Was there for a vacation lunch and they were doing a brisk lunch business. Had the fish sandwich which had two ample battered cod pieces; could not finish. Out of homemade potato salad. Husband had San Francisco Grilled Cheese and enjoyed it. Will be back.
(3)Vanessa Q.
I would give zero stars if I could. I can't say anything good about this place. It took several minutes for us to even be approached for drinks. We ordered and then just sat for a good 30 minutes. Two tables were served before us that arrived long after we did. The food? Ghastly. Who can't scramble eggs??? First go around they were raw; second try, they were over cooked, tough and scorched. My husbands Sunny side up were raw as well. That's how they are suppose to be, you say? The yellow runny but the white should NOT be clear. They DID manage to throw out a second pair that was appropriately cooked. The steak was....okay, although, I felt I was eating something that was a cheap cut and not very fresh. The sausage was some kind of a mystery meat and the hash browns tasted like they were fried in days old oil. What should you take away from the review? The food is not fresh and the kitchen is disorganized and filled with little talent. Maybe I caught them on an extremely bad day? *Update: I felt sick for a good part of the day afterwards*

I was in Ogden on business and wandered into Karen's based on the menu food was good our server was super friendly very down home style fare I could see myself making this a regular spot if I lived near Ogden

I am a regular at Karen's for almost 15 years. Karen (the owner) will often be found in the kitchen making muffins, pancakes or biscuits from scratch. She may also pop out to greet some of the customers. The waitresses are friendly and frequently check to see if you need anything. The food is fresh and delicious. For breakfast, I personally enjoy the Denver Omelette or Bubba's Breakfast but everything on the menu is great. Tuna Melt for lunch/dinner is to die for and the chicken fried steak is fantastic. There is a cool western atmosphere with landscape paintings of cowboys, Johnny Cash posters and Elvis pictures decorate the walls. The location is great with huge windows showings the historic 25th street. There are endless reasons why we continue to go and these are just a few!

I came here a few years ago for breakfast with my kids and I thought it was good. My wife has never eaten here so she wanted to try it on our date night. We arrived about 7:30 pm on a weekday night. I looked at the door and they only had the weekend hours which said 9pm so I assumed it was the same on weekdays. It is not - it closed at 8pm on weekdays. Our waitress was awesome. She told up to take our time and no pressure to leave at 8. The waitress was very friendly and she gets high marks. I ordered the platter because I was craving some seafood. My conscience kicked in and kept telling me that was a bad idea, but I ignored it and ordered it anyway. The platter consisted of: 4 frozen, deep fried shrimp, frozen breaded calamari rings (about 10), 2 pieces of deep fried frozen fish, and deep fried frozen zucchini sticks. I liked the shrimp and the fish was OK but the calamari rings were too big and were not good at all. The zucchini sticks were OK as well. I also got a salad and a choice of potato. The baked potato was the best item I ordered. I need to remind myself to not order seafood/fish at a non seafood restaurant. This dish cost me 14.95. My wife got the Karen's chicken and she loved it and I liked it a lot too. It is a large piece of breaded chicken with a honey mustard sauce. The sauce was amazing. It came with a choice of potato and green beans. This dish is the reason for 3 stars. I think this dish was about 10.00 I liked the decorations, the location, and our waitress but I was not a fan of the food which has a bigger impression on me. The prices are lower than I expected so that was a bonus. I'm sad to say but skip this location of you are on 25th street because there are a lot better places to eat nearby.
(3)Logan A.
Average food. Incredibly poor service. I've given these guys a few chances... And each time they've been understaffed, confused, and slow. Today, two groups who had arrived 10 minutes after us got waited on before we were even noticed. Once we were served, our waitress was confronted by another about whether our table was hers or not. To top it off, my food arrived barely warm. The only thing that keeps this place popular with the locals is its location on Historic 25th.
(3)Heather Z.
Being new to Ogden I was recommended to come here. I had the special and it was great! So I came back I waited forever to get cold food. Well maybe it was because they were busy so next time I watched as they stacked other plates on top of my order. Yuck, so far I can't find a decent place to eat here.
(1)Scott J.
We ate lunch here and I got the Monte Cristo with salad. The salad was wilted and not what I would serve so I ate only a couple small pieces. Seemed to be bagged lettuce. The Monte Cristo was ok but not fully breaded as I would have expected. When I ate the second half of it, the pickles seemed to have made the bottom slice soggy. The flavor was good with the meet and cheese being reasonable portions. Overall, a blah experience and nothing I would say to go to.
(3)Laurie D.
Tho Karens serves the standard breakfast fare, it becomes not worth the while when you wait patiently for a simple plate of eggs and hashbrowns then after almost eating your husbands arm the food arrives COLD. not good. Cant come back.
(1)Kim T.
Cute place with Western decor. Definitely 4 stars for the above average breakfast. Price, portion size, good combinations, quality of food - all good. I had the Southern Sampler - 3 eggs, thick bacon, biscuit & gravy and the best grits. Husband had biscuits & sausage gravy. The coffee was really good, too. Only one complaint that is not going to affect my rating The server was very cold, unfriendly and in attentive. Like she didn't want to be there, and wasn't working for tips. When we go to Karen's again, I will make sure Kami is not our server.
(4)Victor V.
Sweet old lady waitress that made me feel like I was her grandson? CHECK. Perfect atmosphere? CHECK. Delicious food? CHEEEEECCKKK! The potato salad, red velvet cake and the blue cheese burger THE BLUE CHEESE BURGER WAS SO DELICIOUS THAT IT MAKES ME WANT TO CRY THAT I'M NOT THERE! Location? Check! Parking? That's a negative! Would I return? OF COURSE!
(5)Dante T.
Been to Karen's for breakfast 3 times lately. Simple but good breakfast fare. Over medium eggs cooked right, the breakfast steak came out as ordered, tasty biscuit, all things considered a quality breakfast experience. Service was good. They use mid-to-low quality coffee, so that's not one of their strong points.
(4)Cindy S.
We drive from Layton to eat here. The service is really lacking. However the food is incredible. The chicken fried steak is pan fried. Not deep fried. The grits are awesome. Get there early. Grits are usually gone by noon. They have a daily special that usually comes with cake. This place is really awesome. Just be prepared that the service is not that great. I have had to go to the counter the last three visits to get refills on coffee. It gets four stars for food quality and price. It should lose more for service but the food is worth knowing that the service is lacking. Even when not busy it still lacks service.
(4)Oz S.
Karens was fantastic! Service was quick and excellent. I ordered and within 7-10 minutes it was out. The prices were affordable and I definitely would come back.
(5)Brian B.
Average food, good service, but much better than other options in the area. Its sad that you make decisions of where to eat based not on how good they are, but that they are the lesser of two evils. With that said, the food is decent, plentiful and the wait staff is good.
(3)Shabah B.
Like your mom would make you if she liked you. Perfect portions, fresh and delightful service.
(5)Maritza M.
Super service great portions food was really good. The cinnamon rolls are amazing....

I've gotten take out from them several times. I've been trying to try everything on their menu and am almost all the way through. My favorite is the omelets. There isn't one I didn't like. They get my food out pretty quickly and they have good prices for what they serve you.

Karen café is great. I usually order take out because I'm busy all of the time but it's nice to enjoy some comfort food while I finish up on work. The big bubble sandwich is what I order every time. And every time it's spot on delicious. If I'm not in the mood for that I'll get a chicken club and chow down on that too.
(5)Kristen S.
Nice, friendly staff. The biscuits and (sausage) gravy were some of the best I've ever had! Omelets, breakfast burrito, pancakes were all very good. Amazing cinnamon rolls!!

I love Karen's Cafe. We always receive great service and its a great place to hang out!
(5)Aaron C.
Having just moved to Ogden from GA I have been trying out all the restaurants on 25th. This one was not really any more than mediocre. For one not much on the menu resembles anything southwest. The food tastes ok but there are definitely better selections elsewhere on 25th.

Having just moved to Ogden from GA I have been trying out all the restaurants on 25th. This one was not really any more than mediocre. For one not much on the menu resembles anything southwest. The food tastes ok but there are definitely better selections elsewhere on 25th.

When I visited Ogden, UT I ate at "Karen's Historic 25th Street Cafe". I had breakfast there. I had good food and good service.

If you like mass produced cafeteria style food, this is the place for you. Yuck. Everything tastes like it has been re-heated for a couple of days. I've had to go there several times for lunch meetings and I finally learned to eat before I go.

Not sure why the poor ratings. I stopped in for breakfast and it was great. 2 eggs toast potatoes and coffee for $6. Service was good it the place was clean. I was thinking about hitting it for diner as well.

Came in for a stop while visiting Weber St. with my sister. * Pretty standard cafe sandwiches, burgers, etc. * Reasonable prices. * Quick service and a solid meal. * I'd return.

I think it has great interior design, but service is not great and slow, and they didn't care to help a vegan get vegan food.

greasy (even for a cafe like this) food, not very friendly staff, blah atmosphere
