Love the made to order tacos. My favorites are the lobster tacos and the salmon tacos. Their fresh salsa bar will please everyone. The service is a tad slow after ordering, let's you know everything is cooked to order. I put this place 2nd to Lone Star Taqueria where you can never go wrong.

I used to love this Rubios location! The past few times I've gone they have been understaffed and it's take up to an hour to receive a salad or two chicken tacos. The food quality has varied from okay to horrible. I'm really disappointed, I used to love Rubios. My money is better spent elsewhere.

Fresh and tasty fish tacos, what more could you ask for? I reviewed some of the other reviews and I am a lille confused. Rubios would be in the fast food category, but that does not mean the food is sitting under a heat lamp waiting to go. If you want fast and cheap, go to Taco Bell as others have suggested. The food here is more cook to order, the salsa is great, and there are healthy alternatives here compared to Mexican fast-food. The could use some help in terms of staffing, but seriously this is fast-food and often the staff is going to be younger. Check out taco Tuesday, $1.50 fish taco... Yum!

I really love this place, especially on Sundays. Never too crowded and a very chill environment. Recently they changed over to actual silverware which is very rare to see at a sit 'n go establishment. My favorites are the Fish Taco Especial 2 taco plate and the Signature beer battered fish burrito ( normally comes with black beans, however if you substitute them for pinto you will NOT regret it! ) If you visit during the week on a lunch break, make sure you have some extra time because the wait I have experienced had been anywhere from 10-25 minutes to get my food. Worth it? Oh yeh ;) Bathrooms are always clean, tables never dirty from recent diners. They keep on top of the presentation here which is a mega plus for me. They have made their fair share of mistakes but been very minor and always super quick to fix and very friendly about it. This place has my good recommendation :).

this place has pretty good food and it's made fresh to order. i always get the gourmet shrimp taco and the salsa verde shrimp taco with corn tortilla. they are both very fresh tasting and delicious! i love that they have that section with all the sauces so i can grab as many limes as i need for my tacos. i also like to squeeze some lime juice in the green mild sauce to dip my tortilla chips in. service has always been good and the food doesn't take too long to come out. they have some patio seating which is nice for the summer. overall i'd say their tacos are pretty good and i regularly come here.

I thought Rubios was only in AZ so I was delighted to stumble upon this gem in Murray area. When we go in AZ, the place is usually not very busy so I was surprised to see the parking lot so full. It was Tuesday, so I knew we could score some "taco tuesday' treats. Apparently the whole valley was expecting this reel deal, as the restaurant was packed! The line was about 10 min wait and the fish taco deal ($1.50) was only after 2:30. I ordered them anyway and was so glad I did. 2 come on a plate with some chips. Be sure to get your own side of dipping salsa. So many different flavors and hot/mild too. We found a spot in the way back and had to wash down our own tables. While we were at it, we also wiped down the other empty tables around us. The floor was sticky but we were glad to find an empty table! Tips and Tricks Come after 2;30 and get more fish tacos! Restroom is a "one-holer" so you need to time that just right :)

Big salsa bar but the salsas aren't that good. Fish tacos were super good--the shrimp! Also the classic street tacos are good and the creamy chipotle sauce was yummy. I also loved the beans that come with your meal and chips. This place is not authentic but it's still good and tasted fresh.

Recently moved here from Phoenix where I'd routinely visit Rubio's for their great food but have to say the fish portion up here is dreadfully small. The key to a fish taco is being able to taste fish when you eat it. All of the eight fish tacos we ordered and the others I saw in the restaurant had more lettuce and sauce than fish. Kinda disappointing.
You should never eat here if you have a food allergy. I placed my order and the nice woman even told the kitchen of my avocado allergy. Guess what? I got back to the office and took a bite. They blew it. Went back and the manager tried to blame the cashier. Clearly not her fault as it was listed on the order and she told them. Sooooooo lame of a manager to do. Turns out he was the one to make it. It was his fault. I may never go back. *update* After I posted this review I contacted the corporate office and they were awesome. Its clear they care about their customers and reputation. They told me they would address it and sent me two free meals. I did not use them at the Murray location due to that manager however I did use them at the Orem location. That location is on point. They are clean and super quick. The manager of that store is great and very active in the service of his customers. That was great to see.

I'm downgrading my review to a solid 0, but since I have to give it a star, I give it one for the attitude of the lady at the register. Went in today at 12:00. I noticed a sign that the soda machine was down, but no biggie.... I don't drink that stuff anyway. There was one girl working the register and she looked no older then 18. She was very pleasant but quite slow. With the soda machine down, she had to get drinks out of the cooler for customers which slowed her down even more. As I looked around, I saw a lot of customers waiting for food. I looked in the kitchen area and there were 3 cooks, one girl running food and the girl on the register. This didn't look good. After waiting 13 minutes in line, it was my turn ( I timed it). I was told it would be a 20 minute wait. WTF? I figure, OK, I've waited this long, I can use the 20 minutes to catch up on emails. My register receipt said 12:13 when I checked out. I went to my table to wait and saw trash all over. There was puddles of water in front of the soda machine where people got their water (that still worked) but the water sprayed all over. There was no green tomatillo salsa in the bowl (my fave) and so many people waiting. The poor food runner girl was busy bringing food out and I overheard her talking to some guy about having people in and out of the kitchen and other reasons for the slow service. At 12:57, I got up and joined the other customers at the register looking for their food. The register girl was trying so hard to keep it straight. I law my lunch sitting on the food line and finally said to one "my food is right there getting cold." Someone finally gave it to me. As for the food, it was cold. In fact, the fish in my taco was so cold I was worried it wasn't cooked so I didn't eat it. Chips were good, beans were warm but the tacos, not so much. Very disappointing. Register girl came around and gave everyone a free meal card due to the long wait. She was smiling and pleasant the whole time. She should be commended for her attitude in the face of angry customers. In all, management should be retrained or fired. I swear, everyone working there looked to be teenagers and they had a hot mess on their hands. I will not be returning.

Nearly as beloved as the location on 2100 S. on the East Side, this one is somewhat even more precious as it is arguably closer to my work, to the point where I can more easily and readily get my fix for lunch, if need be. The restaurants are very little different, other than table arrangement and this one having kind of a cool open kitchen area. Both are about equally clean. This is my gold standard for fish tacos, my benchmark and this location, like the other one, has other stuff that I hear is good, but I will never know because I can't get past those delectable fish tacos, which are near perfection. I've not only never had a bad meal here, I've never even had an average one. Great work and a shining example of a chain that can still be brilliant.

We arrived at 1:20pm and there was a very short line waiting to give their order. Line moved along really fast. Then we waited and waited for our food. We sat for 20 minutes waiting. I went to the counter and they promised it was next on the list. Food is good but the service is TERRIBLY slow!!

I'm a bit conflicted on how to write this review. First, let me say that the fish tacos were very good. I tried the 3 taco variety plate. I was very pleased with the presentation, preparation, and the taste. The other two people I went with had a salad and said it was also very tasty. I would come back for the tacos. We tried several of the salsas from the salsa bar and they were all very tasty. So, why did I only give them 3 stars? We went in at about 5 pm on a Saturday. Only about 1/4 of the seats were being used. After we ordered, we tried to find a booth or a table for three of us to sit down. There were lots of places for two people, but all the places that would comfortably seat 3 or more were not cleaned. So, we ended up cleaning up a table by getting some water and napkins, and wiping down the table ourselves. I also noticed that all the garbage bins were overflowing. It was obvious that no one had been out in the seating area to clean up for quite a while. It didn't feel dirty, just un-kept. That lack of attention to detail also went over to the salsa bar. Again, it was obvious not one had checked it in quite a while. I needed picked up and wiped down. When our food came, we were all a bit surprised at how small the servings were. For the price paid, I would have expected a bit bigger salad and maybe a side dish to go with the tacos. A bit more careful reading of the menu would have clued us in, but since it was our first time, we missed it and should have ordered a bit more food. I'm not a big fan of walking out of a restaurant still hungry. Bottom line. The food is very good. The manger needs to pay more attention to what is going on in the dining area. Order more food than you think, because the portions are kind of small.

The fish tacos at Rubio's are divine! They are so delicious. I go back for the tacos. They also have some good salsas at the salsa bar. I do debate on giving Rubio's a three or four star rating. The fish tacos are a five for sure. But the portions are quit small. The tacos are a good but the sides are pathetic. I got beans and rice for my sides and there were only a few bites of each. The makes little sense to me because beans and rice are the cheapest things out there! To buy a meal/plate one expects to be full and quite content. I wanted more. The prices to not merit the value and quantity of food. With that being said I suggest you only get the tacos on Tuesdays. The classic fish tacos are only $1.50 each on Taco Tuesday. Don't get the plate because the value is not there. Just buy 2-5 fish tacos and call it good. The enchiladas are good but small and again the portions are very small.

This place is going to kill someone one day! I went there one evening to find an under staffed dirty mess! They were out of beans and flour tortillas when we ordered. Worked around it. Tried to find a table, ALL filthy dirty. The best part was when we were waiting for our food I was watching the "manager" belittle his employee, handle cleaning supplies (yellow cone because a customer dumped their entire drink. didn't clean it up, just put a cone over it) help at the register and handle ALL the food bare handed. No gloves, no washing, nothing! He even scratched his arm directly over an order! When I told them I wanted a refund instead of food poisoning, he argued with me that he is very safe. I told him he is disgusting and should be ashamed of himself. People trust him with their food and he has no idea of food safety. My total was in the low $20 range on my card and he gave me $30 cash to leave. If your going to eat here take the time to WATCH them prepare it! Caution caution caution! We will never be back at ANY location.

Rubios is a nice constant in the world of semi fast food. It always has a good menu and the food is always flavorful. The fish tacos are always good but I've been getting their gourmet steak and chicken tacos lately. As a plus, they have vanilla coke on the fountain.

I have eaten multiple times at the downtown Salt Lake location with no issues. This one is not run well. Today it was a 20 minute wait for a cold burrito. I like Rubio's but not this location

Decent food but it sure distracts from the experience of eating when you have to literally get your own salsa cups from under the counter and ask for more salsa but not get it.. Salsa bar hadn't been attended to so it was out and pretty gross looking. No management dealing with simple tasks.. About 10 people waiting for food for a long time. You could see the anger on their faces. Asked multiple times for things and never got things.. People two places behind us in line got food before us... Not sure what to say other than watch your management

We waited over 10 minutes for our food (slow service at this location), and my street tacos and black beans weren't hot like my husband's fish tacos and beans were so was disappointed. Not sure I will come back to this particular location because the previous experience was also bad (waited 20 mins that day when it was busy).

Got a tilapia salad. Not bad. Friends got the burrito and tacos. Tacos were money. Chips were stale. Salsa tasted like pizza sauce.

The food has always been delicious except one time they didn't blacken our mahi mahi burritos as I asked three times. This last time though I asked where the mahi mahi comes from because I don't want fukushima radiation. The cashier gives me a strange look like I am crazy and condescendingly tells me she doesn't know but she could ask her manager if I'd like. I say yes please. After 60 seconds and she comes back saying they come from a farm lol. Wow so the food I'm ingesting can't just be promised to not have radiation? And I'm a weirdo for wanting to know?? Kind of odd if you ask me

Been eating at Rubios for over a decade in CA. Moved to UT and this has to be the most poorly run Rubios I have been to. The food is good but it took over 20 minutes for a salad and tacos. And there are currently 6 customers in the entire place. Save your time and go to Chipotle.

Can't get enough of their fish tacos and when it s lobster season, forget about it! Get the lobster when it's in season! Love the fresh salsa bar and chips. Even the beans are good. I've never had anything but the fish and the menu now tells you if the fish you ordered is sustainable-cool! Love this place even though its a chain!

Rubio's, I wish I knew how to quit you. If ever I'm craving fast, fresh fish tacos, Rubio's is always my choice. I love pretty much everything I've ever ordered here, and the service is always speedy and accommodating. Also, it's very cheap for the quality and quantity! I love their new shrimp tacos - try the breaded Chile Shrimp taco! Wowsa! SO good I could eat a baker's dozen. I also very much appreciate their new sauteed Verde shrimp tacos. Nice additions to the menu, Rubio's! Other items at Rubio's that are always worthy of recommendation are - + the Blackened Ono taco (love the roasted corn on this one!) + the regular Fish Taco (well done combo) ...and my fall-back choice in the event I'm in a veggie mood - + the Portobello Mushroom and Poblano Pepper Taco (topped with a fruity habanero salsa and avocado! MmmmM!) There are so many great taco choices at Rubio's, sometimes I feel like my brain will explode from indecision. This condition also applies to the salsa bar, where I load up with at least three of every type they offer...because it's complimentary. I sometimes just drink it. I love the fish & seafood choices here so much that I haven't tried the chicken, steak, or salads. And I don't really intend to. But, I do love their corn tortillas (even though they often fall apart while you're eating them), their chips, and even their refried beans side. Very tasty for a typically discarded side. They're so good with a little salsa verde on top! Congratulations, Rubio's - you do a remarkable job making me forget I'm eating fast food. Never change, and I'll never quit you.

I stopped into this Rubio's for a quick snack last night and was pleasantly surprised to find out that like many of its many Mexican predecessors, they find Tuesday to be a day worth celebrating. Just wanting a quick snack I ordered a couple of fish tacos. For $1.50 I was expecting them to be very small or at least no bigger than a taco from a street merchant. 15 minutes later I was almost ready to abandon my order. After 20 minutes I was on my way out the door with a one star review in mind when they called my name. When I saw the tacos I was glad I'd waited around because the tacos were not at all small, they were good size and had a decent size piece of fried fish bedded in with some freshly shredded cabbage. After a trip to the salsa bar I was pretty sure that Rubio's was well on its way absolute redemption. Even with a plethora of condiments the tacos are a little bland. They're good but they didn't blow me away. I think that a completely different corn tortilla would make a huge difference. The ones they are using kind of suck the flavoring away from everything else. I may even considering bringing my own store bought tortillas next time to see how much better of a tacos this could be. As a side-note to the timid, unless you really enjoy the burn, as I do, stay away from the jalapenos. They pack a surprising amount of heat. As an everyday jalapeño eater these chilies really stood out which made a 3 star review inadequate.

I was first introduced to Rubio's in its infancy in Mission Beach, CA. I was not impressed. The menu was tiny and the flavors weren't all that bold. Since that time back in the early 90's, I've eaten at Rubio's once every couple of years or so, with pretty much the same reaction. I stopped in for a fish taco plate a few days ago and I thin they've really stepped up their game. The menu is much more varied than I remember from my last visit a few years ago. The flavors were a bit more bold than I remember. And the salsa bar allowed my to kick things up a notch... or three. I got the fish taco plate, which came with beans and chips. Everything was very good and the price was quite reasonable. All in all, I was pretty impressed. Rubio's is still just fast food. But it's fast food worth eating.

I was torn between 3 & 4 stars...average rating of this place is 3.5 stars, so I guess that's about right. If you're going to come, I'd definitely recommend the fish tacos, since that's what they seem to do best. I did enjoy the patio dining setup. Gotta live it up while it's warm! This is another place we hit up because of the free kids meal certificates the kids earned through the Murray Library Summer Reading Program. I do love the businesses that sponsor this for the kids. So, 4 stars it is!

I agree with LORI (review 12/14/2011) that the food and service had gone downhill for the past couple of years. I finally stopped visiting this location.. I'M HAPPY TO REPORT THEY HAVE NEW MANAGEMENT AND IT'S BACK TO GREAT FOOD. I went in May 2013 and noticed everything much cleaner and the food PERFECT. I commented to MIKE at the register "how much better everything is " he said it was under new management". The condiment bar has fresh , lime, lemons, and a selection of sauces & hot pickled Jalopenos w vegs.. I've since been in several times with complete satisfaction. The last time in, I watched a young lady arranging my plate with care, making it look appealing. That's something you never see in "fast food". She then delivered it to my table (something they don't do at other Rubio locations.

Yeah so it's a chain, but you know what? It's a dang good one! They have a new Roja style burrito with chimichurri, this makes me excited! They've always had great fish tacos and a selection of fresh salsas, light crispy chips and cheap taco nights.

things I don't like about Rubio's: - the cardboardesque corn tortillas - the prices of most menu items - the weak salsa selection - the cornball "island" music they pipe in things I like about Rubio's: - fish tacos - when we win the Twitter trivia and get free lunch - $1.25 tacos after a stupid Tuesday at work - the soothing beach sounds they pipe in under the cornball "island" music I gave Rubio's three taco gnomes out of seven on taco a day, then I converted gnomes to stars and was forced to round up.

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

This is probably more of a 2.5 review but I'm in a good mood today. My fiancé and I had lunch, it tasted good. The wait was long and the restaurant was disheveled, but the food still had fairly decent flavor. I wasn't impressed with the portion sizes or the cost. It was 'sit down' price. For half the $$$ I can get molten hot shrimp tacos from Del Taco in a fraction of the time. But the salsa here is good. Even if the salsa bar looked like a war zone. I will probably return and perhaps pick a less busy time of day.

I LOVE Rubio's, and this location is good, my only complaint is that it is usually much slower than than the downtown 400 south location.

Good food. Salsa bar old looking and not fresh. Service is really slow. Food is good. Will come back for some middle ranged mexican food. Oh never give u enough chips, you always have to order a side for 79 cents.

(1)Mark O.
slowest place on the planet! took 15 minutes to order my food, there were only about 7 people in front of me. then took another 30 minutes for the food. good food crapy service.

Good food and prices but service is EXTREMELY slow!!!!!!! Employees give a whole new meaning to lethargy. At least they recognized the long wait and offered up chips and salsa for the 30 minute wait....

(4)Kristy M.
Love the fish tacos here. The classic ones are great, but I really love the salmon tacos.
(5)Deb B.
Love the fish tacos and friendly staff. Tuesday's $1.50 fish taco night is a great value & the patio seating is nice when the weather cooperates.

dirty filthy establishment.

Never had a bad experience at this location. Writing this review is making me crave it again now.

Visited this Rubio's recently for lunch and left feeling sad that I hadn't just gone for the gold and headed to Lone Star. Everything was just so okay, but it still cost me $10.

The gourmet tacos were really good. I'm more of a burrito person normally, but I would order those again for sure. The creamy sauce was delicious. No complaints here.

Fish Tacos? Get some here. These Fish Tacos will make a Fish Taco Lover out of you. I didn't like fish Tacos until I tried Rubios Original Fish Tacos with the flour tortilla and white sauce. Good stuff.
(4)Courtney R.
Food is consistently great, service is consistently slow. Fish taco Tuesdays, what whaaaaaa!? Also, love the salsa bar, load up on the limes!
(4)Nicole B.
(4)Margaret L.
Great for quick, and fresh tasting mexican food. The salsa bar always has several options and the prices are reasonable. Get the gourmet tacos. They brown the cheese on the corn tortilla and then fill it with wonderful yumminess!
(4)Steve M.
Had their new blackened tilapia burrito, and it was DELICIOUS! I love their salsa bar too, I just wish you got a few more chips to go with it.

(5)Brent S.
The Service is always top notch and the good is always delicious. Always a smile as well.
(5)Davin K.
Yeah so it's a chain, but you know what? It's a dang good one! They have a new Roja style burrito with chimichurri, this makes me excited! They've always had great fish tacos and a selection of fresh salsas, light crispy chips and cheap taco nights.
(4)Ryan S.
things I don't like about Rubio's: - the cardboardesque corn tortillas - the prices of most menu items - the weak salsa selection - the cornball "island" music they pipe in things I like about Rubio's: - fish tacos - when we win the Twitter trivia and get free lunch - $1.25 tacos after a stupid Tuesday at work - the soothing beach sounds they pipe in under the cornball "island" music I gave Rubio's three taco gnomes out of seven on taco a day, then I converted gnomes to stars and was forced to round up.
(3)Angie R.
The BEST fish tacos!! Try the blackened talapia - it's fantastic! Decent prices. Love the salsa bar! Great service & atmosphere!
(5)Susan N.
Yummy, yummy! The food is delicious and reasonably priced. Fish tacos are $2.50 on tuesdays.
