For some reason I thought Pei Wei's were not franchised and should all have the same food, same taste etc. Tonight I went to get take out and this is the second time I have noticed that management seems to be treating it like their own restaurant. It's a Thursday night and they were out of sanp peas. Most of their meals contain snap peas so I have no idea how you could run out of them. Very frustrating and I todn't think I will give them a third chance to mess up the food, lower the quality and then act liek ti's no big deal!

Pei Wei has gone from OK to terrible! The guy that took our order was inept and impatient. Not appreciated considering we waited in line for 25 min. i think we were pretty patient! They must have changed the recipe because my Orange Peel Chicken tasted like cardboard chicken with ketchup on it. It was accompanied by four pea pods and some undercooked rice. To go order took 45 minutes. Bad service and bad food.

Pei Wei, aka 'the poor man's PF Changs' is actually pretty close to PF Changs as far as taste is concerned. The menu includes typical Chinese dishes (both rice and noodles), sweet and sour, orange chicken, etc. The atmosphere is pretty nice, good service, not too long of a wait. Another pro is the price, not too expensive for the amount of food served.

Go to the Sugar House/Bountiful location or don't go at all! Customer service and quality of food is horrible.

Extremely bad experience at this location. Customer service skills are nonexistent, food is bland and unattractive, and time wasted is nonrefundable. Thanks Pei Wei! Last $50 I'll ever spend here.
I am a potato and I found Pei Wei to be an average dining experience. I shared the Asian Chop Salad along with the lettuce wraps and Crab Wontons. The Chop salad was just okay. I was disappointed in the overall flavor and texture. The wontons were better than average. The best part of my meal was the lettuce wraps. I was hoping for a better taste experience. As a result, I will not be putting Pei Wei into my restaurant rotation.

This is definitely our favorite Pei Wei location in Salt Lake City. However, we ordered take out last night, and we did get chicken in an order that was supposed to be vegetarian. We'll definitely need to check our order more closely next time we go, because we had a vegetarian go hungry since that was their only option. Still, the food is hot and the service is good. We'll be back!

It's hit and miss on timing, sometimes I wait longer for my food than usual, but when I do get it, I'm pretty satisfied. The interesting thing is that this place is a spin off of PF Changs, and as an Asian, their food is a bit more saltier/flavorful than what I'm used to. A pretty simple alleviation with extra rice, my favorite is the Mongolian Beef with white rice.
(4)
Sam S.
Close to my work Pei Wei is a frequent lunch time destination. I like the atmosphere inside but I also like the convenient take out for when I'm in a rush. My favorite dish is the Honey Seared Chicken served with white rice--it is just a little spicy and a little sweet. One of the best things about Pei Wei is their consistency. I have never had a bad meal from this restaurant, their chefs are always on the mark.

I actually love Pei Wei, but this location is not as good as the one in Sugarhouse. Quality of ingredients is average, friendliness of staff is poor and the inside is run down and usually dirty.

Don't bother trying the new sushi rolls. U only get 4 for $6.00 and they are not that good. Stick with what pei Wei is known for.

Pei Wei has the best tai noodles ever! Good portions for the price, haven't tried there new sushi yet. Crab wontons and dumpling soup taste great and fresh.

My parents pronounce this restaurant as PEE WEE, as in "where's my red bike?" and "THAT'S THE WORD OF THE DAY". But, I digress. So, after a little shopping action at Fashion Place, my sister and nephews, and my mom went to grab some lunch here. Pei Wei is the sister restaurant of PF Chang's. If you're familiar with that chain of restaurants, it is Chinese food for "the masses" and caters to a more Americanized palate. It's one of those restaurants that you order at the counter, and they bring your order out when it's ready. The food, honestly, isn't all that memorable. I remember what my mom ordered, some Spicy Korean Beef dish. Since I am not a lover of the too spicy, I asked the cashier if it was spicy, and she mentioned that it was "pretty spicy". Since my mom likes spicy, we went ahead and ordered it. When the order came, I was actually disappointed. It didn't even have that much of a punch of heat to it, surprisingly, and wasn't hot at all. I ordered a honey glazed chicken which, again, was decent, but not all the memorable. Overall, decent Americanized Chinese food. It's decent, but certainly not some of the best Chinese food I've had before. PS It's pronounced pay-way ... ;-)

Better and more contemporary than the local mom and pop Chinese food spots. Better than places like Panda Express for sure. Good idea for take out. If you decide to dine in the atmosphere is modern and inviting. All the other diners seemed to be enjoying themselves as much as we did.

This place satisfies the craving and fast too but not authentic by any means. Actually last few times food has been below average. The hot and sour soup tastes burnt and the white rice was kinda stale and sticky. Staff does a bad job of letting the food sit under the warmer where I actually went and picked up my food. I think the sugarhouse location is much much better.

Super close to the top of my guilty pleasure chain food list. I pretty much only ever go here with my sisters, and it's almost like a tradition of sorts. Our man-folk don't like Chinese food, so it's a good excuse to leave them at home. The food is consistent, tasty, and quick. Lettuce wraps are a must. Pei Wei is related to PF Chang's and the lettuce wraps are identical, so that's convenient. The orange chicken (it's kind of spicy and not breaded/fried, and delicious) is my favorite entree, unless it's Summer, then I get the Vietnamese chicken salad rolls (fresh spring rolls, filed under salads, served with a spicy sauce and peanut sauce).
(4)

Pei Wei's food isn't outstanding, but it's good. The interior isn't inventive, but it's clean and modern. I've had the honey-seared chicken, the Thai Dynamite chicken, and on my most recent visit I ordered the Thai Coconut Curry Chicken. I like chicken, okay? It's a good spot for a lunch date when you need something above and beyond fast food but don't have time for the full-service sit down restaurant, Pei Wei is a viable option. Plus, the fortune cookies are over by the straws and drinks, so you could hypothetically take two. I heard.

What can I say... its just a weird place. The food tries to be some sort of fusion, but I have not exactly decided what its fused with or from. The electronic menus along the front before you order are kinda cool... kinda gives you a more accurate idea of what you are ordering instead of finding it on a printed menu. The store can get pretty loud very quickly which is a star off. I guess its like PF Changs on a cheaper side, but still rather overpriced for what you get.

Absolutely disgusting, ordered the beef loin Mein noodles and it tasted very sweet, and the mushrooms tasted like the smell of feet, yuck, returned it and I ordered sesame chicken instead, very sweet again sauce and drowned in sauce, yuck. Flavors were not great, nothing on menu was good, PF Changs is horrible also, Chinese food in Utah is horrible, Panda express is Utah's best Chinese food.

Not so good food. Not bad, but everything tastes off and the vegetables are undercooked while the meat seems to be overcooked. Biting into near-raw onions and tough chicken isn't really my thing. This is true for all of the dishes I've eaten here. I wouldn't go there again.

Visitng from out of town and couldn't decide what to eat so we tried Pei Wei take out. BIG MISTAKE. This was the worst oriental I've ever tasted! So bad that I took it back the next day. I had the Thai coconut curry with chicken--it was tasteless. My husband had the Pei Wei Spicy which I tasted to see if I had just made a poor choice. His was equally bad--it had an obnoxious sweet taste but no other flavor. My advice is DON'T!!! We had better Thai (pasta) at California Pizza Kitchen last night.

Basically an upscale Panda Express. A little price and sometimes the line can be really long and slow (depending on who is ordering), but the food is pretty good, not greasy at all and and whats cool is that it's made to order, so you know its not just sitting there under a heat lamp. The staff is really friendly. If you get it to-go I would suggest ordering ahead of time. They have a separate check out for picking up to-go orders so you dont have to stand it the 30 min line.

Always been a huge Pei Wei fan. Unfortunate this location has been slipping for a while now. Service is a 1 star at best. They act like you are putting them out by choosing to dine with them. The food is hit or miss. Lately a lot more misses than ever before. I get that it's hard to staff a restaurant these days and I always factor that in. The manager was in the back and stuck his head out a few times to verify that his store was burning down while he was not helping. Not sure what's going on here but I would look at changing up the leadership.

I have been to this location dozens of times in the last few years and, unfortunately, the quality has gone waaayyyy downhill recently. The last handful of times that we've visited, our food has either not come as ordered, arrived extremely late, or come so staggered that it's impossible to enjoy a meal together (my husband's food arriving 35 minutes before mine. What?!). In addition, we've had problems finding a clean table (and the ones that look clean are super sticky). I'm not sure what's going on, but it's too bad--because this used to be one of our favorites and now we'll have difficulty wanting to return. If you DO decide to take your chances, though, my favorite is the Kung Pao chicken. The teriyaki bowl is good too, as is the Pad Thai. Just know that you might not get to eat what you ordered for a very long time. Like I said, this is unfortunate, because if you can actually eat what you order, it's pretty good!
(2)
Taylor H.
I love Pei Wei but I will not return to this location. Poor service. Poor cashier transaction. Normally I would give them 5 stars every time, but tonight the two girls working the counter ruined my experience. They were rude and scowling at everyone. Food is always great at any location.. However the service was so bad I didn't even make it to order my food and walked out!!! The gentleman in front of me was told he had to "wait to be seated" after he had told the ignorant employee his wife had already sat down at a table... By this point the line behind me had grown to the door and yet there was only one employee taking orders while the other two employees walked around and pretended to work... I'm not sure what they're idea of customer service is, but it's failing!!!! It's a shame because like I said, the food is always pretty good! Hope they get their act together soon!

I have to agree with the other reviews about the 2 rude girls working at take out. They were so rude that my boyfriend refused to order after he saw how I was treated and went to Five Guys next door instead to order take out from them. On top of their rude behavior, when I got home- they gave me California rolls instead of Teriyaki rolls. When I called them to let them know- she argued that California rolls were the same as Teriyaki rolls. I'm Asian- I know what California rolls are! I'm not happy at all and will never go back.

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.
Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.
There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.

The new Sriracha Pork Lettuce Wraps are wonderful!! I have had lettuce wraps at various places and no one does it like Pei Wei. I don't know where they get their lettuce, but they are so uniform in size and so fresh and crisp. I had a coupon, BOGO, so my second entrée was the honey seared chicken. That would only get three stars. Very standard and will not order that in the future. BUT the lettuce wraps are excellent and very filling. Four lettuce cups per order. With two entrées and a soda - my total came to $8.90. What a bargain and somewhat healthy lunch.

On top of their rude behavior, when I got home- they gave me California rolls instead of Teriyaki rolls. When I called them to let them know- she argued that California rolls were the same as Teriyaki rolls. I'm Asian- I know what California rolls are! I'm not happy at all and will never go back.
