Pretty good compared to what I expected! The seasonal roll menu is great, and half priced is always exciting! The girl who was working the front was fast to fill water and run my card, but mumbled and was kind of awkward (possible it's a language barrier though). They made the rolls pretty fast too. Nice place to grad some good sushi quick next to the office. Definitely better than the other places I've tried around here so far!

Sometimes you walk into a restaurant at rush hour and find nobody inside. Is that a good or bad sign? I am 50-50 as I see it both ways, not all awesome food joints are packed 24x7 and I see a lot of horrible places that I can't stand which get packed non stop too. This place had really great service, just super poor tasting food. The quality was blah in just about everything we tried. Nothing stood out, nothing worthy of any mention. Not sure I would want to come back to this place. Maybe if they had a new menu, new owner, and some nigiri added to the menu.

A five star pick for a mid-level sushi restaurant in Utah. Nagoya has been here for more than a decade but you can walk in off the street and get a table anytime. I don't want you to have different ethnicity expectations when you arrive. While this is billed as a Japanese restaurant, the waitress was Korean and the sushi chef was Caucasian. The interior of the restaurant fits in with this strip mall design. Plenty of comfortable booth seating and a flat screen on the wall - good for sports when available. There is also seating at the sushi bar where you can watch the chef mold each piece of sushi into your special meal. The high quality of the fish and the chefs technique are sure to please your pallet. I go there for basic sushi rolls, an excellent value. The price tag might shock you, $4.25 for a salmon roll, a tuna roll, a yellowtail roll, or a California roll. This is a value! I also noticed they had their specialty rolls at 50% off. This is a tremendous offer if you want to explore some fancier rolls. These more extravagant rolls run about six dollars with the 50% off sale. So skip the trip to Japan for your sushi rolls and head over to Midvale. Salute!

One word: budget. They offer 50% off sushi roll prices and seasonal specials, but is your raw fish really where you want to be skimping on quality and freshness? Not I. For a recent company lunch, I ordered three servings of nigiri sushi. I hoped Nagoya would be a surprise hidden gem because of all the good reviews, but I got pretty much what I expected. Not even that, actually, because they didn't provide me with any wasabi - which I find essential to have for nigiri. 2 stars because the service is friendly and the location is clean. They were vey busy for lunch of this particular day, so maybe there is something I'm missing that makes this place so spectacular. But if I'm looking for sushi in the Cottonwood Heights area, I would much rather go to Kobe than return to Nagoya.

In a town with very few giid sushi restaurants, this place was a nice surprise. Tucked in a strip mall, you'd never thing thus unassuming little place would be so good. The fired tofu is great, and all the rolls are good value and quality with the fish extremely fresh.

Something has happened to this place and the quality has gone downhill. Came last night and got the dinner box with Beef Teriyaki and the Green Bamboo roll. It comes with steamed rice, miso soup and a small salad. The soup was good and the salad ok, although the bottom of the bowl was swimming in water which made my lettuce a but yucky. The main dish was the big disappointment. The beef was barely warm, but had grill marks. It's like they pre-cook it, then slap it back on the grill to warm it up just before serving. The green bamboo roll was supposed to have deep fried salmon, spicy crab and avocado on top. The avocado was at the peak of ripeness, but the salmon was microscopic and not warm. The crab had no flavor at all. Very bland. I went in at 5PM last night and there was no one there. While I was there, one other lady came in, ate then left. Not another person came in. The place was dead! I remember coming here and it being rather busy. But not this time. Two stars for the friendly server and for the soup. Nothing else was worth my time.

My husband and I travel from Wyoming quite a bit and were in the mood for some sushi so I took to Yelp looking for a place in the area. This little place looked okay so we stopped in. The hostess was wonderful and sat us right away. It wasn't very busy so she was very attentive. We had the edamame and two different rolls each. They were yummy and this little place turned out to be a good spot for a quick lunch. Very reasonably priced rolls and I would stop in again.

Great prices and sushi. They have great 1/2 price specials on seasonal rolls. Service is great and never had to wait for a table.

For as many times as I've been here, I cannot believe I haven't written a review before! This is by far, my all time favorite sushi place in Utah! I am far away from my hometown in California, where sushi is not taken lightly. I guess it's safe to say I'm somewhat a sushi snob (whoops!) This place meets my "sushi fix" needs- so I suppose that says a lot! Food- I mainly come here during their lunch special hours. $6.99 for a 2 entree meal that come with a side salad and rice. Their choice of entrees ranges from sushi rolls to actual dishes. This is an amazing deal and almost all the choices are delish! When if come with a group we usually choose a few of the seasonal special rolls. These rolls are 50% off and deff don't disappoint! Service- Sometimes it can get crazy! Especially during lunch hours and there is usually only 1 server (who is sooo sweet) and 2 sushi chefs (?) Regardless of the crowd the sushi quality is never compromised- no poorly rolled sushi here! Overall- I definitely suggest this place to any and all! I've gone here over a handful of times and will continue to keep going!

There aren't a lot of good sushi places in the south end of the valley. This place definitely is worth trying. I haven't eaten there in a few months but everything I have had is super fresh. The only reason why I didn't give them 5 stars is because they are a little too expensive.
(4)Taylor C.
Prices were more than fair and the sushi was pretty fresh, the right temperature, the right color and texture! I am use to paying twice as much for the quality and appreciated the chef accommodating my order. The decor was a little out dated but I'd rather them continue spending money on their food then sit on a more modern chair.

My favorite sushi place just down the street from the Holiday Inn Express that I regularly stay at for yearly ski trips. So I eat here about 2 times per winter. The sushi is fresh with good quantity and not too much rice. Quality is very good. I normally order the sushi deluxe with sashimi so the chef can surprise me. The miso soup is hot and tasty. I've tried some of the hand rolls which were delicious. Price is reasonable for the fare.

Sushi- 4 Stars Service- 3 Stars Pretty good sushi, but service is so-so. This isn't the best sushi I have had but it wasn't the worst either. I think the fish and seafood is really fresh for a place like this. We went on a Friday and was surprised to be sat right away, our first server was a female and she was horrible. I mean please don't roll your eyes at your customers, it's not polite. I don't know if she didn't like us, or thought we were going to be rude but she had this nasty face from the minute we got sat until we left. Thank goodness halfway through our meal a male server came, he refilled and cleared our dishes. I sincerely hope you all share tips because if it had not been for him, I probably would've only given you 18% gratuity! Yes, I know 18% is still a lot for bad service but I usually try and put myself in your shoes and imagine that you have a 5 years old at home that needs new shoes or something. I wish they had mussel shooters for me to try, but we got the spicy tuna, spicy dragon, rainbow, lollipop, double salmon and they were all pretty ok. Do not get the hot tea, it's a cup of hot water with a tea bag, and it's disappointing to say the least, please invest in a teapot and cups, it would've been much better. 3 of the rolls were half off because of a seasonal discount deal, but I feel like the portion and size of the rolls are way too expensive in general. They were cut and rolled smaller to look like a lot but it's not, for a joint like this, the rolls were ok but similar in too many ways. You can get your sushi-fix here but it's not my first choice.
(4)Ryan L.
For a budget sushi joint, this place rivals some of the classier joints as far as taste and quality (especially a better deal than the Tsunami in Union Heights). I was very pleased with service and it took no time at all to get our food.
(4)Jean W.
At the risk of being perceived obsessive, even though I am, a recent birthday surprise brought Hubby and I back once again to Nagoya. (Translation: he knew exactly where to bring me to achieve maximum Hubby points.) Check it out - this time: - Rising Sun Roll - Super Dragon Roll - Sweet Honey Roll (my sushi soul-mate) - Mars Roll - Rainbow Roll - Plus drinks, and a side of rice Our bill was $35, thanks to their 50% off sushi specials. So much love for Nagoya. They should sell "Sushi Ho" t-shirts.

How have I not reviewed this place yet? My husband and I found this place on recommendation from a friend when we were looking for a local sushi joint. Having moved from Vegas we realized we needed to quickly find a go to place for us to enjoy some sushi without going broke. I must say I was not disappointed in this recommendation. It is a little far out of our way for the most part but it's really not that bad to get to. I have recommended this place to people and taken friends and family here which is why it's one of the few places I'm happy to give a 5 star rating too. It's somewhere I'll keep coming back to as long as their food and service stay consistent. I have been here multiple times with my family, friends and on a little date night with my husband. Every time I have enjoyed the food. We usually get a variety of rolls but I have had friends and family get the bento boxes and they look fabulous! Quite large and with a good variety in them. My son enjoys the miso soup and will usually share our rice too. I haven't been disappointed in anything we've ordered. They usually have deals for 50% off or buy one get one depending on when you're there. I really like the Spicy Crunch Roll so if you're not sure where to start get that. MMM! We haven't been brave enough to try some of those sweet sounding rolls but maybe one day we'll get brave since so many people seem to like them. One of the best things we had was when we were there for our date night and sat at the sushi bar. We asked the chef to make something for us and whatever it was it was fabulous. I wish I could remember it because I want it but it's not on the menu. We'll have to sit at the sushi bar again and see if we can figure it out. MMM!!! The place isn't that big but can still accommodate a reasonable sized group. I highly recommend sitting at the bar if there aren't many of you because you can try some suggestions off the menu that are sure to delight. The service has always been good and we'll keep going back for sure. If you're in the area stop on by and enjoy some tasty delights.

My husband and I come here as often as we can. The sushi is much better than at many other restaurants we've tried. I am in love with their Miso soup...so much that I still order it when it's 100 degrees outside!
(5)Rosalyn T.
This is the best sushi. It's so delicious. I love double salmon, triple spicy, and more good food. The service is great And friendly (Agnes)
(5)Dox M.
this place is so terrible. literally the worst sushi i have ever had. the nigiri tasted like straight saltwater. the rolls were tiny, kind of warm and had awful flavor. i would not recommend this place. in fact, i would suggest never coming here. so gross
(1)Michelle M.
Reasonably priced sushi that is always fresh and delicious! When we lived in Midvale this was our go-to sushi place. The wait staff are friendly and always remembered what we liked to order. Our favorite rolls were the Alicia, Mango Tango, & Triple Spicey. You won't be disappointed trying out Nagoya!
(4)Gregory R.
I haven't been to all if them but Nagoya is my favorite sushi restaurant on the Wasatch Front. I also love the fact that the prices are very reasonable. I love the Grand Canyon Roll.
(5)Lauren S.
In the beginning this place was great, although the rolls have always been pretty small, but I have gone to Nagoya the last couple times and been a little disappointed. They are understaffed when they are busy on the weekends therefore resulting in slow service, small uneven sized rolls, and sloppy food. I don't think they were prepared for how busy they are. It is cheap but it should still be presentable, and tasty. I do like flavors they have good spicy rolls. I would go again for the price especially, but not first on my list.
(3)Mike J.
Ok the sushi was pretty good, nothing amazing but if you don't try the mochi ice cream you've missed out on a real treat.
(4)Ron A.
Excellent food, very personal service and nice decor

We met some friends for an informal get-together. The specialty rolls were interesting, but many were very similar, and far too many were battered and deep-fried. The rolls we had were decent, but not outstanding. I believe they had a 50% off deal -- at least on the night we were there -- that made things more acceptable. The traditional rolls were all reasonably priced, and were pretty good -- again, good not great. The decor was pretty basic and subdued. Noting to write home about. All in all, it was a decent place to meet friends; and if your friends want to meet there, I wouldn't turn them down. It's not a place I'd think of first, especially living in SLC with far better options that are closer to home.

The best part about Nagoya is DEFINITELY the prices. One can fill their tummies to their heart's (dis)content with better than average fish without putting a major dent in their wallets. But, is it great? nah. No major qualms, but no glaring positives either. Yes, it will fill the craving. The rolls are well-handled (1 rice thick!), but the fish quality isn't stellar. One word of advice: Stick with the rolls over other options. The sashimi and nigriri are a little less appetizing, although either will do the trick in a pinch. Sometimes location makes no difference (like my willingness to drive to West Valley for Myung Ga), and sometimes it does. In this case, I wouldn't drive to Midvale again exclusively to pig out at Nagoya. This place just isn't in my 'hood. If I was nearby, I might hit it up again. I wouldn't furrow my brow at the idea, anyhow.
(3)Natalie R.
This place is exactly what the 3 star review says- A-OK. It wasn't the best sushi I've ever had, but it was good. We had several types of rolls, all were decent but nothing made me go "O.M.G. This is the best *insert roll here* I've ever had!" The prices on the menu looked to be about average and they had a large menu of specials that were all 50% off, which was really cool. The service was a little awkward- we had two people taking care of us, neither of whom seemed to want to interrupt us to clear dishes or ask if we wanted to order anything else. Each time we wanted to order some more rolls or needed our drinks refilled, we had to flag one of them down. It wasn't busy, they just didn't seem to anticipate the our needs throughout the meal. Based on the other reviews of Nagoya Sushi, I will have to give it another shot. Maybe we just went on an off night for them.

One word...Excellent!! I'm in SLC on business, searched Yelp for a sushi joint nearby and wandered into Nagoya. Boy am I glad I did! I will be returning here every time I'm in SLC. The waitstaff was friendly and efficient and the sushi came out quickly. But, the two best parts? The taste and the price!! I ordered 3 special seasonal rolls and each one was delectable. They seriously rivaled my favorite sushi joint in Chicago. 3 rolls was more than enough for just me and the most surprising part? My total with tax was only $20! Hats off to the sushi chefs here. Thanks for making my first 5 star meal in Utah!
(5)Rebekah W.
I searched the reviews for good food and service, and this was the only Sushi place in the area that customers rated well for both. We took our family, and a friend to Nagoya last week to celebrate my oldest daughter's 18th birthday. We needed a place that had something OTHER than sushi for my husband and little girls. The restaurant wasn't anything spectacular to look at, part of a strip mall, and rather small - nothing wrong with it though, it was clean and pleasant. I checked out the menu on line, I thought the prices were reasonable, and we were able to make a reservation. When we arrived, our waiter indicated that all rolls on the middle of the page were 50% off! The sushi was FANTASTIC! Also, the Teriyaki was some of the best I've tasted. Our waiter was polite and attentive. Our group of 8 had plenty to eat - 9 sushi rolls, one bento box, two adult steak teriyaki, (includes salads and soup) one kids teriyaki, and drinks all around. Mind you my three year old ate nothing. Our bill, including tip was about $136. Before you think that sounds expensive, consider that we ate till we couldn't fit one more bite in. Two years ago we visited Benihana and spent over $300 for only 7 of us. And tonight I ordered two sushi rolls from a local place and paid (choke) $25! I don't live nearby, but I'll make the trip again, I loved it!
(5)terrence s.
The staff was friendly and does special request. The sushi was fresh and the service prompt. The ginger tea was also very good. I'll be going back
(3)Bruce B.
Excellent meal , fresh fish and great presentation. Well worth a visit for some very fine sushi !
(5)michael c.
Great food but unfortunately tonight service was very poor. 15 mins to get an order taken from the same person who sat us down and then came back to ask if we'd been served. An 18 mins so far to have table cleared an bill. And it is not busy here. They are cleaning tables but still no one had come back to use. Very disappointing
(3)Justin F.
Kinda plain atmosphere and it's in a strip mall, but the prices sure are right. Really crowded at 7-7:30pm too... so be prepared to wait. Sushi was ok, but not amazing. I did enjoy the Mars roll over the Montaq.
(3)Carlos L.
Horrible service! If you want the owner/chef to yell at you and then kick you out of his restaurant because you don't like his sushi roll (which tasted like bananas), avoid this place! After we told our server that our "Ultra Vegas" roll tasted more like bananas than an actual Vegas roll, the owner/chef came out and told us to pay half for the roll (even though we only ate two pieces) and then asked to us to leave immediately. We asked him to provide us his name to report him to the Better Business Bureau but refused to give us this information. This goes without saying but this guy should not be in the restaurant business. NEVER COMING BACK!
(1)Nathan B.
You know it's going to be a good night when you've got a couple on their first date sitting right behind you, making oh-so-cute first date dinner conversation. On that note, I think Nagoya was a great find. Not too crowded, reasonably priced and friendly. The sushi tasted fairly fresh, and the menu offered some of the most unique rolls I've seen anywhere. If you go, you must try the Sweet Honey Roll - it's close to perfection. So while I can't say it's the best in SLC, it's right up there with my favorites.
(4)Jen B.
I love this place! AMAZING price for sushi that is as good as you'll find anywhere in the valley. They almost always have a lunch special that is Buy One Get One Free specialty rolls.
(5)Davin K.
Half off rolls and some of the best mochi and fried green tea ice cream this side of the Pacific.. I can't remember but I think it's the sunset roll, the one with mango, avocado and crab on pink soy paper.. don't use any soy sauce or wasabi, maybe a little ginger on one, but by itself is a delectable little desert that makes any soul happy.. Actually, I'm tempted to drive across town in the rain right now just to get one.
(5)laure s.
Took our grown son here for sushi and had a great time. Wondeful choices and very friendly. I'm picky after getting bad sushi in Anchorage AK.....No worries here. Very fresh and nicely presented.
(5)Jason K.
OMG, I didn't eat sushi after seeing hamachi drenched in its juice and had brown rotting bloodline and offcurse, frozen packaged Tamago. I didn't feel like walking out so I ordered Kitchen Food. I figured another Korean owned Sushi bar, I was right, Owner and his wife ran the restaurant. I ordered Oyakodon that consisted of shredded zucchini and carrots with cornstarch mixed teriyaki sauce and oh yeah chicken. all i tasted was cornstarch and the old undercooked carrot's. ruining Japanese cuisine. I'd say that place will do better selling Kimbap and Bulgogi with side of Kimchi. I'm not fond of rolls but funny thing, 90% of the rolls on the menu had somthing topped on california roll with korean chefs favorite eel sauce spicy mayo and sriracha...
(1)Kris M.
Sushi is excellent and inexpensive especially if they are running their 50% off special. Gyoza was really good too. Tempura here sucks, the batter is way too thick and greasy, so stick with sushi. The wait staff can be good or bad, our waitress last time we were here was really annoying and overly fake nice. Green tea is from a tea bag, always a turn off for me. Overall though, I highly recommend Nagoya and have come back often.
(4)Melrose M.
Great, moderately priced sushi. Their half price roll promo makes this place unbeatable in quality and price. Good beer/wine selection, is usually quiet and service is always good. No better sushi place in the mid-valley area.
(4)Scott C.
My wife and I found Sushi Nagoya on Yelp and we were AMAZED! I lived in Japan for many years and I can say that this place is impressive! We ordered the Cindarella roll and Bento Dinner box.
(5)Dave G.
Best sushi in Salt Lake City. An absolute gem. Rising sun role is a must
(5)Ian R.
On a quest to eat at all the sushi places in the area I was looking for one restaurant and stumbled onto Nagoya's by accident. Out of seven Salt Lake area sushi places I've been to, this is my favorite. The sushi is very fresh and tasty and the owners are very nice. I've been to hundreds of sushi places all over the US and Japan, and was still pleasently surprised by the new and interesting rolls. I've been here a few times with friends and here are some of our new favorites. Geisha:tempura shrimp, crab, avacado, tuna, salmon, yellowtail, and white fish was very tasty. Grand Canyon: like a meal, collection of scallops, shrimp, crab, mushrooms, and squash pan fried to perfection. Plan this one for the middle of your meal. Sweet Sunny: delightfully light and fruity. Salmon, escolar, avacado, strawberry, and a little cream cheese topped with ginger sauce. Note: doesn't have seaweed, instead uses soy paper. Consider this dessert. And cowboy roll is fantastic, we call it super maguro back home. Everything was great, hope you enjoy it.
(4)Eric B.
Best sushi in Salt Lake by far!! My wife and I have eaten at nearly every sushi place in Salt Lake an no one does rolls better than Nagoya. Soooo delicious and also very creative combinations (the Sweet Honey is particularly interested and absolutely to die for). The head chef is a sushi genius. This place is for people who want incredible flavor combinations in their sushi and truly have a palette for the very best sushi rolls.
