Smothered Burritos!!!!! Try 'em...you'll love them!!! We moved away for 10 years & never could find anyone who could make chile verde as good as La Frontera!

Good food, fast service. Chips and salsa are already on the table as you sit down. Good lunch deals and a decent amount of food - not big enough you have to take some home (not convenient when you're going back to the office and don't want to smell like rice and bean the rest of the afternoon) but big enough to satisfy your noonish appetite! Booths are comfy and tall so they're pretty private, if you're looking for a peaceful place to have a quick lunch at. It's not the blow-my-mind amazing kind of restaurant/food but it did it for me when I craved Mexican food at lunch and didn't want to eat at Taco Bell/Taco Time! On a negative note, I've tried better pico de gallo salsa - I like it more limey than theirs but for the price and the fast service I can't complain!

The price is fantastic and the smothered burritos are delicious!! I love the cheese enchiladas a and the ribs as well, great taste and filling for a great price! The salsa is my favorite of any Mexican restaurant I've been to in SLC.

2 stars, because I was weighed down by cheese. Drenched in cheese. Hopelessly lost in cheese. Next time I go, I'll ask them to go easy on the cheese. That way, I'll be able to figure out what's going on underneath all that cheese. Good customer service, and a decent place to dine.

I've lived near this place long enough to memorize the aromas caught per passings by. Been hearing of it before ever moving up the street. This though was my first time ever going in. I had a craving to quench. My first impressions were better than most. A good atmosphere with high energy. It was a Saturday so a wait was expected. Chips, salsa, and my drink were produced as soon as I sat down. The service was friendly and fast. And I've got absolutely no complaints with presentation. The food however leaves much to be desired. I ordered the large combination with cheese. My food was served a little on the cool side and was smothered beyond recognition. I wouldn't recommend this meal to anyone. I was craving a burrito. If you're coming here with that in mind than this spot may not be what would whet your whistle.

The food here is just average, but the staff are rude, and unfriendly. Also, I watched one of the kitchen staff leave the rest room without washing his hands. Just gross! We threw away our food and left hungry. Hopefully won't get sick.

La Frontera used to be one of the go-to Mexican restaurants in SLC. In fact, I still hear people saying this is one of the best here. Meh, I don't get it. I mean, I used to love this kind of americanized mexican stuff when I was a kid. But, my palate has become more sophisticated as I aged, and I truly believe SLC's has too. The times have changed... The food wasn't bad. But it's just that extremely greasy, cheesy, goopy mess you'd expect to find at any other americanized mexican place. Our whole table just felt like we had a gut bomb-giant burrito you'd get at 7-eleven afterwards. I actually felt kind of bad for the mexicans working there. Because they all seemed to have that look on their faces as if they were ashamed of the extreme compromises they'd taken to serve food to dumb gringos. The mexicans at other authentic mexican restaurants and the "Hip", slightly americanized, food-network-famous mexican restaurants never have that look of defeat on their faces. It was kind of sad. Like I said, the food wasn't bad. It was tasty. Cheese and grease do taste good. And I used to love this stuff as a kid, so it's kind of got that comfort food feel to it. But comfort while eating... NOT after.

Craving an old stand-by tonight and was sadly disappointed. I got the small combo and while the cheese enchilada is never anything to write home about, tonight it was almost non existent. The other items in the combo however were worse. All I could taste was salt. Apparently when in doubt of flavor... add more salt.

The staff was so accommodating. Other than that I was disappointed starting with the salsa, or should I say hot sauce and chips. I have never been disappointed with chips and salsa before, I mean it's just chips and salsa right? Well, whatever they are feeding you as salsa is also smothered over everything else, well that and what I swear is the last stockpile of government cheese. I was pretty hungry so I ate what I could and the entire time I was thinking, this would be the perfect place for dieters who don't want to be tempted to over eat. Ouch. Like others posting reviews here, I felt bad for the staff, it's like they are saying sorry with their eyes.

This is one of my favorite restaurants! They give you free chips and salsa to snack on while you wait for your food and their enchiladas are SO yummy!!

Very overpriced dinners for what you get. Left me in need of something of higher quality. I'm very bummed, because I like Mexican food, but this place is pushing the envelope an isn't a good value.

New location, same great small combination. There is a drive-thru but it has a limited menu.

We love coming to La Frontera and are so glad that is here in Midvale. We especially like the smothered burritos and smothered chicken chimichanga. They are awesome! Also try out their flan. it's the best around.

Tips for eating at La Frontera: Don't. Turn around. Seriously. Keep driving east on Fort Union Blvd until about 2300 East. Eat at Lonestar Taqueria instead. You're welcome. You will hate yourself if you eat here. The food is nearly inedible, and it's often cold and so covered in cheese the food isn't recognizable as anything other than a gooey cheese brick that may or may not house a tortilla underneath. The drive-thru is also very pricy for the quality of food you get. Taco Time has better quality food. (It hasn't quite descended to Taco Bell-level bad though. Yet.) Trust me on the Lonestar Taqueria recommendation. Get the Fish Tacos.

I decided to try la frontera for lunch today. I went through the drive thru and ordered 2 cheese enchiladas with rice and beans. The board at the drive thru said $8.50, but I was charged $12.15. I didn't get an itemized receipt and I wasn't offered one. The cheese in the enchiladas was barely melted and overall the flavor was poor. Overall I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. There are too many other Mexican places to waste money here.

WAY WAY WAY WAY too oily. You can tell that its not fresh. Ive had worse, but not by much. Its easy to throw cheese and oil all over food.

I love this place. The smothered burritos are a must and they are huge and only 5 bucks. How can you go wrong with that? The service is always fast and friendly!

Food poisoning last night both wife and daughter ate chimichangas and throwing up all night, my other daughter and I had burritos that were warm at best...bad stomach pains. Have been here a few times but won't be back.

Worse service ever! My husband and I went on a Sunday evening it was slow but no one greeted us until 35 mins later. Very skimpy on the salsa and chips. The $11 chimichanga is extremely small, is the same size as a microwave burrito. I order the nastiest tamale that was so small! Not authentic at all!

This is exactly what it should be! Nothing too special. Good food, clean and good service. If you have a Mexican food craving La Frontera will take care of it for you! I had the smothered Steak burrito and the chicken enchiladas. Both good choices not amazing but good.

The food isn't bad, the place is clean, service is good. However, they are very confused and do not know what grilled chicken is. I ordered 3 ala carte GRILLED CHICKEN tacos. What I got was shredded chicken tacos on a crispy homemade shell. I ate them because I was hungry and they weren't bad at all. When I complained, they said they were called grilled tacos because the shell is grilled. I could swear the shell was fried in oil. Still not bad, but they need to clarify their menu.

Good food with a good price unless you do the drive through.... for some reason the drive through charges twice as much for the same food. It's mysterious.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
