Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Love this place. Not fancy, not expensive either. I love the food, the help is pleasant and my kid loves it. You can't really go wrong with it, unless you're looking for a fancy dressed up place. Great place, never been disappointed

Not a gringo in sight, check. English speaking server for my benefit, check. Telemundo playing on the flatscreen, check. Decent chips and salsa(s), check. I ordered pozole (misc pork meat and hominy in their own lovely broth, with finely diced onions, cilantro, cabbage, jalapeno, and limes x4), and Milanesa con papas. Where has pozole been all my life?! To tell you the truth, it kind of reminded me of what I wish pho broth actually tasted like. If you order a cup, it's actually a nice sized bowl of hearty soup. Next time, I'm just getting pozole. The Milanesa was delicious. I made two discoveries. Milanesa is best friends with lettuce/salad. And, Milanesa is best friends with refried beans. Light, perfectly seasoned breading, and a thin piece of misc beef. DELICIOUS. Can't wait to eat the leftovers! Sidenote: on Telemundo, they had this semi-gruesome show about a lady who goes cuckoo and kidnaps another woman (for what reason, I'm not sure) and lays out these torture implements to hurt and, I'm thinking, eventually kill the woman. I saw a pick-axe, some surgical scissors, a knife, and some other things I didn't recognize. Made for an interesting end-of-meal experience. Service at the end was a bit on the slow side, due to the server also being the cook. A lady helper walked in a bit later in the meal, but never emerged to help in the dining room.

La Chaca is my first choice for Mexican food in Salt Lake City, The chips & salsa/beans are great, The guacamole is freshly prepared and delicious. The bowl of Chicken Tortilla Soup is about 12 ounces of awesomeness. The seafood, oyster, octopus cocktails are equally good. This is usually not a quick dining experience, more on the leisurely side.

This is a sit-down restaurant, with a wait staff. It's not a taco shop. I wasn't sure, so I thought I'd make that clear. The first thing I noticed upon entering La Chaca is that it's clean and nicely decorated. The waitress approached my table and was very friendly. She brought out some chips and salsa, which were both delicious, along with some bean dip stuff that was also really tasty. So far, so good! Then I ordered. Nothing too adventurous, just a combination with a shredded beef taco, chile verde burrito, rice and beans. The beans were meh. Not much flavor and sort of runny. The rice was good, but nothing exceptional. The chile verde burrito was the best thing on the plate and it was just okay. The shredded beef taco, which is normally one of my favorite things to eat, was the worst thing I got here. The meat wasn't seasoned at all. It had no flavor, but did contain quite a bit of fat. And it wasn't really "shredded." It was the consistency of pot roast. And the shell was just a store-bought crispy taco shell. Based on the food I got, I would give La Chaca 2.5 stars at the most. But given the great service, nice atmosphere and delicious salsa, I'll bump them up to 3. I really don't see myself ever eating here again.

I tried to order chili verde burrito but ended up getting a chicken burrito, this may have something to do with the server not speaking any english and me not speaking very much spanish. however i do know the fraise "No Frijoles" so i was able to eat a nice chicken burrito.

Mmmm hot Pozole on a cold day. This place is kind of a dive. But the service was good and the soup was great.

Don't come here looking for anything in English but the food is fresh and is made in the kitchen daily. I pointed at the menu a lot and they were very nice. They got the order wrong the first time but had no problems bringing me the correct order in a hurry, This is a local place, its clean and friendly. The food was great. I had the chicken nachos, and tasted the enchiladas and tostada. This place is the real thing.

When we walked into La Chaca, the music was totally blaring and some of the tables and chairs were bunched in the middle of the restaurant and the floors were being swept and mopped. We were there right at the opening of the day and they were not quite ready for us. Normally, this would make me concerned about the experience I was about to have, but the owner welcomed us in and excused the set-up and then and sat us down promptly. She brought us some chips and salsa and also a bean dip. Delicious! The salsa was fresh and had a great heat level and the bean dip was a fun and tasty surprise. We ordered lunch--Pozole for me and a chili relleno combo plate for my friend. I am on a Pozole kick (for the past ten years) and I must try it where and whenever it is sold. Because we were there right at the opening, I asked if they had it available and it was and so I ordered it. It had a great side plate of add-ins like cilantro, cabbage, onions and limes. It had a very flavorful broth and nicely shredded pork. I do think that with another hour of simmering, the flavors would have been more developed. And also on a much pickier note, the cut of pork that they were using that day was a little too lean and so I was missing a little of the rich fatty yummi-ness. The other plate was also very nice--delicious sauce with a good amount of heat and nice beans and rice. Now I really love my old town Midvale, and I have now tried every food stand, restaurant, market and back alley food hole there is--I think. La Chaca is not my absolute fave but it is one that I will be revisiting primarily because of the service, the price and the menu options. Btw, they never turned down the music and actually--I really loved that. Will update..

Excellent Mexican food from the Oxacan region. My wife and I have had diablo shrimp, milanesa, pozole, and a few other dishes and they all have been excellent! You can tell they take pride in their cooking. And our favorite part is the handmade corn tortillas - tasty! The ambiance could use some help though (that's why I'm not giving it five stars).
