I was really hoping to write a good review about this place I love Indian food and eat it all over the country. Alas I am unable to. The chicken vindaloo lacks even the most basic Indian spice and flavor. Very bland. The keema nan had almost no lamb on it and the dish sizes are very small as compared to other places I frequent. Service was good enough or I would have given this place 1 star. Very disappointed should have read the reviews before I came in

Overall a great Indian restaurant! 4 out of 5 stars from places I've been to. Go check it out and you won't be disappointed!

The buffet didn't look that great so we ordered off of the menu. The food was so so, not much flavor to the dishes. Anything with a tomato base tasted like Campbells Tomato soup. Not sure we would come back.

Sometime restaurant hits, and sometime they misses. Ganesh was offered a few misses for me. It took longer than usual for me to put the experience together in words. It was one of those written un-posted things. They are located in an old strip mall that had been here as long as I can remember this part of Midvale. After visiting them for a few times on and off, curry was probably the safest thing to get here, probably the korma ones. Their tandoori chickens were ok too. The lassi were overly sweeten. Hygiene was serious issue here, nothing comparable to actual India, but when we got a Dosa dish from them, there were some hair inside which looked obvious from somebody working there. We sorted just left the dish untouched. With the recent change in managing styles, the future does not seem too bright for them. There are definitely a good handful of better Indian alternatives nearby.

I've eaten here over a dozen times because the food is absolutely delicious. My favorites are the lamb coconut karma and the bindi masala (mmm... okra). Make sure to get some naan, they do a great job on it. The service has been between good and excellent. Ordering tali style with a bunch of traditional sides is also tasty and fun. Clearly the reviews already posted have lots to say about the food, so I am going to comment on something different: the seating. Ganesh has booth and table seating. When I first started eating here several years ago the booths were around the perimeter and the tables in the center of the room with a small podium for the hostess at the front. This was the most sensible option and their best. Then, they split the room in half with all booths on one side and tables on the other. Very awkward, especially considering the booths are quite tall. Just recently, they made it worse by adding a wall to make a type of foyer. When you first walk in, bam, a few feet in front of you is a wall that makes it feel cramped. Perhaps management will see this review or I'll mention it next time. PS - I once had their buffet, not nearly as good.

3.5 but I'm rounding up to 4 stars for great service. I love having the option to enjoy either North or South Indian fare at the same place, and on my visit the Northern cuisine was a notch or two better (great Saag Paneer). Rava Dosa and Mysore Masala Dosa were alright, as well as the accompanying sambar, but the paratha wasn't as good as many other places in the area. Spacious dining area and good service, and plenty of parking is nice too. Maybe I'm overly sensitive to smells but this place has a horrible cleaning fluid smell that overwhelms you right as you enter the restaurant. They need to use something else to clean the tables, or whatever that cleaning agent is.

Service was good - very friendly. Sadly, though, the food was subpar. The tikka masala tasted like chicken in cream of tomato soup and the ginger chicken had a very odd texture - kind of like chicken in batter that had been left sitting for a while, then microwaved and dumped in a sauce.

I tried the lunch buffet. It was just OK. I was visiting SLC from LA, and being from a bigger city, I've got to say, this is really not a very good buffet. It may be one of the worst I've ever had. That being said, for this place to get the positive reviews it's gotten says worlds about what people in SLC think indian food should taste like. I've had better indian buffets in Sai-Pan a place that probably has less than 5,000 people living on an island. The selection of food was fairly standard, but there was nothing unusual. The quality was fairly low. I wouldn't reccomend any of the dishes in the buffet. The lentil dish was probably my fav of what was avaiable. And I would have forgiven it all if the rice pudding was decent, but this was the first place I've been to where they heat the rice pudding. I don't know if that is how some places serve it, but it wasn't my favorite way of having it served. I'm use to having it chilled. All in all it was a bad experience. If there's worse out there (and I'm sure there are) I've yet to see it. If they charged $5 for the buffet, I'd have thought it was ok.

This was a nice find for a lunch break. I went with a coworker and enjoyed the buffet. The price was good and the selection was excellent. Flavors were rich and reminded me of the yummy indian joints I went to in the Silicon Valley. Looking forward to checking out the dinner menu!

The service is great, but being as I'm Indian, I didn't think the food was good. The quality seemed cheap. My wife got the Genesh special which was one masala dosa, one idili, one vada. The presentation was terrible. The dosa seemed to be falling of the plate. The potatoes in the dosa was a mix of hash. The sambar was runny and had all of ONE carrot in terms of vegetables. That dish was $8. I ordered lamb biriyani. It was nothing to wrote home about. Not much in terms of flavor. I specifically asked for it to new authentically spicy and not spicy for a westerner, but it was far from spicy. I asked for mango pickle in order to enhance the flavor. That ended up costing me $2.50. I could get a while jar of much higher quality pickle for that price. The Gobi Manchurian was pretty good. My entire dinner cost me $36. Definitely not worth it. I will not be going here again. Ali Babas is far better.

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. By far put worst experience at any restaurant. From the service to the food. Very commercial, not even close to decent Indian food. We had been there and liked their food about 2 years ago, bought a coupon and went back only to walk out mad and hungry. We were served room temp. water when the table next to us got it iced. Their mango lassi tastes like a mango orange Odwalla. We ordered vegetable samosas and 2 chicken Tikkamasalas. The vegetable samosas had no flavor, no cumin AT ALL, like mashed potatoes with peas only. The tamarind sauce that came with it was like ketchup with water, NO TAMARIND. And the Chilean Tikkamasalas, were by far the worst I've ever had. I said mild for my 7 year old and got Spicy. I tried mine and sent both back right away. And to make things worst, both our waiter and manager argued with us and were very rude, zero knowledge of customer service and refused to take it of our check. They said, "It's your problem that you didn't like it." I got totally ripped off, not only did I have to pay for food we didn't eat, I had bought 2 (TWO) groupons and I AM NEVER GOING BACK!!

I've been to only a few resturants in the valley so I'm not an expert on Indian food. However, I know what I like and this isn't it. I ordered Shrimp tikka Masala medium-hot. The sauce tasted more like creamy tomato soup, the shrimp was chewy and didn't taste fresh. There wasn't any heat to the dish either. The rice didn't have any traditional herbs in it and they didn't even offer Garlic Naan. The place is bare with decorations and not very inviting. If you want good Indian food I would not go here. The Bombay House or the Star of India are amazing for the same price only far much better!

The reviews of Ganesh should say it all but just in case, I wanted to throw in my comments. I had previously been here for lunch with some people from my work. They were all very familiar with Indian food and could guide me through the buffet. That being said, there was nothing that I didn't like. So I suggested to my wife that we give Ganesh a shot for dinner. Reading the menu and both not being very familiar with Indian food, we were both drawn to the Chicken Tikka Kabab (Thali Style). We both weren't sure what to expect but the food was amazing. It was probably the best cooked and most flavorful chicken either of us remember. All of the Naan and various sauces along with the rice were amazing. My only complaint is that they server Pepsi and not Coke. The bottom line is that the Chicken Tikka Kabab is a great starter meal for somebody that is not familiar with Indian food and both my wife and I will be making a return trip in the not to distant future...

From my experience of dining in Ganesh, it is better if you stick to ordering the South Indian dishes. So once you open the menu, skip the Samosas and Gobi Manchurians in the Appetizer Section and head straight to the South Indian Specials. Generally, the South Indian fare in Ganesh is decent and they have a nice selection of dosas. They make something called the Himalayan Spring Dosa, which was quite interesting. It was something new to me as I have never come across this particular dosa back home in India. Their (Mysore) Masala dosa is not always the best. But if I am really craving for it, I'll eat it. I like their idli's and the Ganesh Special Combo is worth a try. Be warned, sometimes their food can be high on salt. Good South Indian food is hard to find in Salt Lake City. Bombay Express came and went and the less said about that, the better! So in that sense, Ganesh is a bit of a relief.

I went with my husband and friend recently and they both loved their meals, while I found mine kind of bland and nothing special. I would be willing to go back and try again as the service and portions were good. We had the Veg Samosa which I found over-priced and over-fried but not terrible, Garlic Naan (great), Veg Curry (not so great), and Lamb Curry (I think is what my husband got and loved it).
(3)
Morgan L.
If you are familiar with the different regional Indian food styles and like South Indian fare, this place is decent. But you have to order the South Indian dishes. The Paper Dosa (Masala) is pretty good. I'd go back to Ganesh, but only for the Dosa. The daal was more like soup/sambar than a dip. I agree with the other reviewer about the strange cleaning product smell. Not the most appetizing scent.

We were really delighted with Ganesh! The flavors were full and complex, everything cooked to perfection. We had the Aloo Gobi and Chicken Tikka Masala and both were awesome. We ordered each as the Thali dinner rather than a la carte and were not disappointed. Give yourself a treat and try Ganesh Indian Cuisine.

A couple friends and I hit up this place with the rugrat on a Friday evening. It wasn't super busy which I like because I'm not really a huge fan o people in general. The waiter was very nice and helpful. I got the Paneer Tikka Masala and it was amazing! It was the yummiest tomato cram sauce I think I've ever had. It was quite a bit sweeter than I expected but it was really good. The cheese was also yummy. Like another reviewer, I got it Thali style so it came with the cucumber based sauce (raita), naan, lentil soup, rice pudding and a vegetable curry mix. The rice pudding was delicious as well, and the naan was slightly buttered. Even her grand royal pickiness, the rugrat, tried some of the different items, but really only enjoyed the naan dipped in a little of my sauce. She just ate vanilla ice cream and a fruit salad. The fruit salad was not was I expected at all. It was mainly chopped up apples and grapes, but it was in a creamy sauce. The sauce was somewhat reminiscent of egg nog, but I don't know what was in it. It was really good and I'm glad she didn't eat a lot of it because then I got to. I will have to return and try out the buffet and go for dinner again. I think it's the best Indian that I've had in SLC.

The food here is fantastic. Seriously. I ordered the Saag Paneer, and was highly impressed. I did not order Thali style, and was so mad at myself. The best way to describe Thali style- its sort of the Indian version of the Japanese bento box. You get several little extras with it. all on a little tray. The service is great- all foods can be ordered with or without ghee, and can be made mild, medium or spicy. From what I've had, it seems they err on the side of not-so-spicy, so if you like your Indian food seriously hot, speak up and let them know.

I have eaten at much better but I have also eaten at much worse. Eat here for lunch buffet while in town for business. Fairly typical Indian buffet. Had nice selection of meat and vegetarian choices. Arrived at 11:45. Place got busy be 12:30. Meat choices were chicken tiki masala and goat curry and tandoori chicken. Masala was very tasty as was the goat curry ( watch, laden with chunks of bone). I never eat the tandoori chicken as it is usually too dry for me. Two or three vegetarian dishes. With coke, was about $11.00 and worth it. They were slow on bringing the naan or having out on the buffet but all in all, they did a reasonable job. The restaurant looks like it is run by a 60ish mother who cooks and is assisted by a daughter, and a son who deals with the front of the house. Another reviewer put it well. This is a strip mall Indian restaurant run by a family that works very hard and does a good job. If you want elegant and ambience, you're in the wrong place, and the snooty woman a few reviews down needed to be somewhere else and paying a whole lot more than she paid here. My only complaint is that the food could have been a wee but spicier for my taste.

while flying back to home from SLC we decided to taste the South indian cuisine. Found this place online and reviews were good so gave it a try. Overall experience is good. its different then other indian resturants where mostly the tables are crammed, it has nice open space flow. We orderd the Ganesha special, mysore masala. We liked the preparations but would have been good if sambhar was more tangy but may be its there style of cooking. I will like to say if you are from North indian - you will like the dosa but samosa and chana batura no way ...;). looks like they shouldnt write south and north indian on there board. So if you are in SLC and want to have the taste of South indian cuisine this is nice place to go ....but remember no samosa or chana batura :) ..

A welcome respite from road food! My wife and I were traveling on 1-15 through Utah on a Saturday night and stopped for the night around 9:15pm. We asked our hotel for a recommendation and they told us about Ganesh. We were pleased that they were still open (till 10pm) since we figured our only options were fast food. They are located in a shopping center behind an Arby's, and we missed seeing it the first time around. Once we arrived, there were no other customers (due to the later hour?) but we were treated fabulously by the staff. We decided to order our meals thali style (from the menu: "served with rice, soup, lentil wafer, vegetable curry of the day, yogurt sauce, naan and dessert of the day". My wife ordered Tandoori Chicken and I ordered Goat Curry. She asked for "medium" spicy and I insisted on "Indian spicy" since I knew they'd Americanized their spice levels. My wife doesn't care for as much spice as I do, and felt her medium was delicious, but not that spicy at all. She absolutely loved the sauce and devoured every last bit of it with the rice and naan once the meat was gone. The lentil crackers to start were a particularly nice treat. I'd never tried anything like that; they were large and crisp and served with two sauces, a mint one and another that I can't recall too well. My wife liked the mint one best. I mixed them both together. My Goat Curry was very good (this was the first time I've had goat, so I don't have anything to compare it to) and I absolutely loved the soup and curry of the day (lentil soup and garbanzo-lentil curry!). The dessert of the day, Galub Jamun, was amazing. It's described as light pastry made from milk and flour in a thick sweet syrup. It was fairly dense and sweet and a nice way to end the meal. The staff encouraged us to stay and enjoy our meal, even long after the doors had closed. We're not Indian food experts by any means, but we definitely enjoy Indian food when we get the opportunity and were extremely pleased with this find. If we ever find ourselves traveling back that way, we would make an effort to stop here again.

i'm indian and went there for the lunch buffet. It had to be the worst indian food i've ever had in my life. For two people and 1 soda, our lunch total was 21.45. I got a little bit of everything they had in the buffet set-up and ate two bites of each of it, and walked out and went to arbys instead. Even the raita(yogurt) was sour, and that is the most basic thing to make. Never going back, and definitely not recommending it to anybody.

My husband and I have consistently loved this restaurant. The atmosphere is romantic and quiet. The staff and owner are always pleasant and willing to please. The food is amazing! We have been to several Indian restaurants and have found this one to be the most authentic tasting. The price is right and the food is plentiful. Make sure you order Tahli style just so you can taste all the daily offerings the chef prepares. YUMMY!

This is really the only Indian restaurant that my wife and I goto. We are always willing to try other places, but we always come to the same conclusion that we prefer Ganesh. I love the traditional curry chicken with the onion sauce. My wife gets the chicken or lamb saag. Service is always good and they are very friendly.

The Chicken Tikka Masala was absolutely fabulous. I've only had Indian food once before years ago and remember it being good. At Ganesh it was so good I'm dying to get back there soon. It's not very often one goes to a restaurant and as they leave they say "WOW, now THAT was a GREAT meal"! Well, that's exactly how I feel about my visit to Ganesh. It's a quiet place, not too busy, so you can have a conversation with those you spend time with and not feel rushed or hurried.

Lunch buffet is very flavorful and includes vegetarian and non-vegetarian options that go beyond curry. It is fresh and authentic. My favorites for dinner these days are South Indian offerings that include entrees served Thali style. That is, the entree with rice, vegetable curry of the day, sambar-soup, raita, naan, papadam and desert of the day. It has all five tastes covered, is balanced and satisfying! It is also fun to eat, as these components come in their own little stainless steel cups on a serving tray. It brings eating to the level of art. Make your symphony or paint your painting when eating a little of this and then a little of that. Also the Dosa's (large paper thin pancakes) with idli (rice cakes) are great when a lighter option is more what I crave. The atmosphere does not demand dressing up. The servers were eager to please. Indian Beer is good to go along with all the spices. I plan to go back often.

Easily my favorite Indian joint in Utah. Lots of creamy goodness in the butter chicken, saag paneer, tikka masala - the kind of stuff anyone can enjoy whether they're into Indian or not. Regardless of what you enjoy, be sure to order the meal Thali style, which adds several curries, a yogurt sauce and a dessert to the meal.
(5)

Solid in every respect. Good Tandoori Chicken. Nice curries. The non-stop Indian hip-hop music videos were...interesting. The Thali style meal is a nice to way experience a very full meal. Two for full dinner, each with adult beverage....$40. I will be back.

About a month ago I took my wife and my mother to this place on a Saturday night. The atmosphere was average, nothing special. There were belly dancers, which didn't really do much for me. The food was great. We ordered Lamb Vindaloo, Chicken Tikka Masala and Coconut Chicken, all Thali style. All the food was great. Thali style comes with naan and some little samplers of raita, curry and rice pudding. They also have really good tamarind chutney and mint coriander chutney. I've only been here once, but consider it at least as good as India House, Royal India and Bombay House. The only downside was the naan wasn't the greatest.

Love love love this restaurant!! The focus here is mostly Southern Indian food. The yellow dahl is so delicious, but my most favorite thing is the Chicken Biryani. It is to die for! All the flavors of this dish make your mouth water for more. It's always fun to order your entree Thali style so you can 3 additional mini dishes to try like sompar. The people that work there are all quiet but fantastic. If you talk to them they will talk back to you, but overall they don't talk a lot. Don't get offended by this or think it's bad service because the service is great! They are super quick to refill your water (that's what I always have) and you don't have wait long for your food which is another bonus. Ganesh Indian Cuisine is not your average fast food chain like Olive Garden, Mimi's Cafe, or Pei Wei. They are a one of a kind restaurant with extremely delicious food for a great price. The atmosphere is quiet and you really get to enjoy your food and can actually hear your conversation. You can't beat that! Try this place out today.

The dosas and lamb samosas are really quite good. I haven't seen the dosas anywhere else in Salt Lake, either. They also have good biryani dishes. I need to try more!

I have now been here twice. Once for lunch, which was a buffet or more typical, northern Indian food, and once for dinner, where I got dosa, which is southern Indian. The food has been good both times. The lunch was good... average, but good (a nice spread to choose from). Dinner was more unique, as it's hard to get dosas in UT and I have been spoiled with them in SF over the last year. I got the Mysor Masala Dosa and we also had the Paneer Pakora (cheese dumplings) and the Goat Biryani (seasoned rice). The dosa was tasty... a bit softer than what I usually have, but the flavor was spot on and the softness didn't bother me by any means. The filling was also very good, although I wish it could have been a bit spicier. The Pakora was good... a bit bland, but delicious with the sauces, and I think it's supposed to be a little bland, since it's essentially cheese and batter, so once again, no complaints. The goat biryani was great... seasoning was good and it was spicy, just as we had asked. Overall, the service was great both times, and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys Indian food and would definitely recommend it to those who have not tried south Indian food. :)

We went there with some friends for dinner. The place wasn't crowded as we were early. I was skeptical as I thought I was hard to impress coming from the holy land of Indian food aka bay area, California, but I was so glad to be proved wrong. :-) To begin with, they have complimentary pakodas as appetizers which are pretty good. We ordered 2 dosas (crispy rice crepe) and 2 idlis (fluffy rice based cakes). They took about 15 minutes to arrive and the restaurant folks were extremely accommodating when we told them we had a plane to catch soon. The food was excellent. The dosa was crispy, the color was just right. So were the accompaniments -- the curry stuffed in the dosa, the sambar and the chutney. I think this place is even better than a few South Indian restaurants in the bay area. Thanks to our friends for introducing us to the place. I wish I could have tried a few more items from their menu. If you live around there, do not miss this gem. Go check it out!

While the standard of the food mentioned in my prior review stands for itself, I have decided after being a regular (sometimes 2 or 3 times a month) for the past 7 years, basically since they opened, to no longer be a customer of Ganesh. Why the sudden change? Well because of a sudden change in how they do business and something I have contacted the owner over. Today on a take out order they added additional things and refused to fix it and wouldn't let us out of the order when we protested so we just ended up paying for it all so as not to make a major scene. This is not how to treat loyal customers, and personally I find this kind of tactic to be as bad as tip skimming and both are things I don't tolerate. So why I wish you well Ganesh and thank you for the years of good service, be aware I will now be going to your many competitors for good Indian food in this valley.

I like last Sunday lunch... this is my six-year-old son's favorite restaurant. I love the Tikka Masala and their goat curry, with their Dosa (thin bread). The chicken tikka masala is truly tasty and very buttery... it is perfect with Dosa or Naan (slightly thicker bread). My son loves it and he kept asking me to bring him to this restaurant over and over again. My favorite, though, is the goat curry because it was rather spicy and they cut the goat meat in smaller pieces, so it is easy to eat. Their curry is just nice (not too sweet, spicy or saltish). I also enjoy their fried onion and I ate them with the masala both chicken and tofu. It was just perfect. My wife favorite food is the grilled chicken (red color drumstick = tandoori chicken). The chicken is smoky and tasty... it's just perfect and the size is not "giant", so it is really nice because it is not "fatty"; instead, it is really tender. Just perfect... The only thing on why I put 3 stars are as follows: 1. The cleanliness of the restaurant 2. The dessert: it is too sweet on a number of desserts I tried like mango lassi, gull jamun ...

My family and I love Tikka Chicken Masala, and often purchase the premade dish from Trader Joe's! After searching for an indian restaurant close by, to try something fresh, we found this place and were excited to try their Tikka Chicken Masala. We ordered this dish mild, and honestly there was no mistake in covering up the taste of Campbell's Tomato Soup as the base. So sad and disappointing after reading other positive yelp reviews.

I would give a three star based on my experience with this place. Food was average and cold. Not many items are refilled unless asked for. Delayed response. Probably will visit again to see if it is same and will update my review on it.

Food was bland, effectively ruining the virtues and delight of Indian food. Stay away, especially if this is your first time trying Indian food. The cafeteria style buffet was disheartening to see, it looked like a cheap Chinese buffet, and worst to taste. Good points: lunch time is not crowded, service always kept my water full.

Heard across the wall: "Do you need a diaper change?" x 3. Lovely image when about to eat curry... Highlight: Dal Makhani made with black lentils, onions, tomatoes and spices. The tandoori chicken was really good. Everything else was just...OK.

Ganesh is the best Indian food restaurant in Salt Lake City. The food itself is completely amazing and delicious. The staff are the friendliest most competent folks you can find. If you're lucky you'll get to see some awesome Indian music videos. Get the Aloo Sag and you won't regret it. Lunch buffet rules. Take your coworkers and impress them with your fine taste and ability to find hidden treasures.

Ganesh is one of those rare treats you find and don't want to tell anyone about. Simply put, the food was outstanding. We went for dinner and had several appetizers and 2 entrees. While each dish by itself was flavorful, they all complemented each the other. It was clear that al the ingredients were fresh. Highly recommend.

The wild, flavorful, exotic, and delicious flavors of India converted into the slightly off, gooey, industrial, mass produced flavor of something that slid out of a can of Campbell's soup. First my side came, which was Onion Pakora. They had plenty of dried stale vegetable pakora sitting in the lunch buffet tray that the waitress decided was close enough, and served me a heaping plate full. All for the cost of $4.50. The curry I ordered came as a bowl of barely edible sludge that looked like it had been emptied from the contents of the diaper of one of the screaming children who ran about the place as I tried to eat. It brought me back to the days of my childhood, remembering the beep of the microwave, and the anticipation of the bland tomato flavor that made any child's mouth water. When I mentioned the blandness, they brought me a small bowl of hot sauce to add to the curry. The hot sauce was more of a bland sauce with not detectable hint of spice, and basically converted my bowl of tomato soup into a vinegary bowl of tomato soup. My coworker meanwhile tried the buffet. His comments regarding the chicken were that it looked and tasted like they had ran it over, and stuffed its sun baked dried carcass into a pot and boiled it. When he asked if they were going to add more Tiki Saag, the waitress rolled her eyes, and proceeded to scrape the baked on bits at the bottom of the pan into a pile of mash in the center of it, and offered it to him. All in all, with so many excellent options in the area, I can't imagine why anyone would ever go here. It was easily the worst Indian food I've ever had in my entire life.

Ganesh is a hidden gem. When my usual place was closed on Sunday I had to search for my fix. This place was nearby so I gave it a try and boy am I glad I did! I absolutely loved the vegetable coconut korma! The saag paneer was pretty good too. We ordered both the onion and paneer naan. The paneer naan didn't have much flavor but was great for dipping in the entrees. The onion naan is great plain or dipped. The staff was incredible, very attentive and friendly, they even had no problem accommodating my friend's special order. They provide a complimentary "chip/bread" which is really good. I was also impressed with how much food we got for the price... I definitely recommend Ganesh!

Ordered the vegetable biriyani and malai kofta. The "biriyani" turned out to just be basmati rice with frozen mixed veggies- you know exactly which frozen vegetable bag I'm talking about, the classic carrots, green beans, and peas medley. Completely lacking in flavor, spices, and salt- needless to say it was not "biriyani". The malai kofta was also disappointing, tasted just like the frozen ones you get from the grocery store. Actually, the kofta at the restaurant was crumbly and not moist enough. When the Indian food craving strikes- head somewhere else.

I love this place. Food is always delicious and there are tvs playing music videos while you wait for food. I go at night and there usually isn't another person in there but I've heard is crazy busy around lunch.

Wizzywig. Or, more accurately, WYSIWYG. That's "What You See Is What You Get," and I think that's pretty much the best way to describe what's going on at Ganesh. Here's this Indian food joint in a strip mall in Midvale, and that's precisely what's up. No pretense. No claims of grandeur. Just a nice, neighborhood Indian food restaurant where you can go without breaking the bank. Ganesh has been on my radar for a while, since I learned about the Thali Style option. That is, you can make most of your meals Thali Style, which means they come with some naan, a dessert, and a few extra sides for just a few bucks more. Highly recommend if you're the hungry type. The place is simple--some booths for seating, and not immensely large. It's simply decorated, but not gimmicky (as is often the case in ethnic eats in strip malls) so I an only applaud the restraint. It's just right for a nice-but-still-casual dinner. Indian food gets under my skin (the idea of it, not the actual food nor my actual skin) and so I was craving something unique. Aloo Sag fit the bill, and I definitely hit the nail on the head. It was good to have the potatoes in the creamy spinach Sag, and the rice was light enough that the meal didn't get heavy. There was plenty on my plate (leftovers came home) and the whole thing was $9.99, or $12.99 Thali Style. What's unique about Ganesh is that they break things down by Northern and Southern India styles. I'm not near sophisticated enough to be able to articulate the idiosyncrasies of each region, but pay attention to menu items #19-29 for some southern dishes not seen too many other places: dosas, idli, methu vada, uttapam. I was a fan. I don't think I'd classify the food as explosively delicious, but for the price and the location, it was a completely delightful experience, top to bottom.

We first discovered Ganesh back in 2008, and we've been going back ever since. The food is simply outstanding. The flavors are deep and complex, and I regularly find myself thinking about their signature dishes several times a week. (I'm really glad we live close by.) For many, Ganesh is two different restaurants. Folks who work in the Midvale area know them for their lunch buffet, while many others know them for their dinner entrees. Whether you go for lunch or dinner, you're likely to find your favorites, as well as a large menu that tempts you to try something new. While they do offer northern and some Pakistani dishes, their specialties are the soupy, southern variety. Since we are a vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free family, we appreciate the breadth of their menu and how easily they can accommodate our dietary preferences. While we occasionally visit for lunch, we mostly go for dinner. So here's what to expect: You'll be seated by their friendly servers and given a menu with plenty of variety. (Vegan and gluten-free options are indicated.) You'll notice two price columns for each main course: entree or Thali-style. The former will come with the entree and rice, while for a few dollars more, the Thali-style adds naan (bread), riata (yogurt with crunchy veggies), two side dishes (chosen by the chef), and dessert, all served on a large metal place setting. You'll have to be quite hungry to finish a Thali-style dinner, but you'll enjoy more flavors than the entree. Be aware that dishes come in mild, medium, and spicy varieties, and they'll gladly make something in between. While you're waiting for your dinner, you'll get crispy papadum with green and red chutneys. Our favorite dishes are the saag paneer (spinach and cheese), paneer tikka masala (creamy tomato sauce and cheese), baingan bharta (creamy eggplant), daal curry (chunky seasoned lentils), and chana masala (saucy chickpeas). While we obviously haven't tried their meat dishes, our omnivore friends offer high praise for the chicken and lamb offerings. Naan can come plain, but some dishes are complimented by either garlic naan or batura. And if you imbibe, try a Taj Mahal beer. At 22oz, you could certainly share one with a friend, and will douse the flames if you ordered a dish a little too spicy. The non-alcoholic mango laasi (a sweet, smooth yogurt beverage) will also soothe a tingling tongue. Whether you're a fan of Indian food, or you're looking for something exciting and new, go to Ganesh Indian Cuisine. You'll be happy you did. (Note: for folks south of point of the mountain, Ganesh Indian Cuisine now has a location in American Fork.)

I have no idea about this place and we were here for dinner upon my friend's advice. We walked in around 9.30 and to my surprise only two tables were occupied (due to the later hour?) and the staff greeted in our mother tongue (as of my friend is from SLC and this place is frequent stop for him). Started the dinner with papad served with mint and tomato chutney. We ordered chili chicken, goat curry, chicken biryani and naan. We asked for spicy and the dishes are really suicidal. I never expected that the food is mouth burning spicy. Even though the food is spicy, it really tastes fantastic. Finally we had some relief after having the dessert Galub jamun. The staff is friendly and has big seating area. Enjoyed the diner with south Indian music which is playing on the TV screens.

Weird vibe in this place. Servers look like they belong at Denny's with the same work ethic. Food is ok but not flavorful like Tandoor. I have only been here for the lunches and all times i have been under whelmed. I guess it's nice to have something different among the many burger food chains on fort union but it's Indian dumbed down for sure.

I did take out. Got Chiken Tikka Masala since that is usually a good way to get a feel for an indian place. Was very disappointed. Tasted more like tomato soup than what I was expecting. I think my girlfriend got the bryani and said it was ok, but not worth the price. Maybe I'd put up with it if the prices were significantly lower, but they weren't. I won't be going back.

My wife and I LOVE this place. We always get the chicken korma with garlic naan. It's not a chain or some fancy restaurant, but it's good food. We've taken about a dozen of our friends and they have all raved and are always wanting to go back. If you don't mind a few oddities, this place is awesome.

Excellent Indian food. I say it's the best in the Valley. Their Chicken Tikka Masala (my favorite Indian dish) is by far the best anywhere in SL County. I've been to 7 different Indian restaurants in SL County and nothing rivals their Tikka Masala. Their lunch buffet is a great deal, too. Their various korma dishes are also excellent. I have an Indian friend and he says that Ganesh is quite true to authentic Indian cuisine. If you want great Indian food, eat at Ganesh.

Best Indian in Utah HANDS DOWN! The owner takes deep pride in his food (he's trained Indian chefs all over the country), and you can taste it! They have a REAL imported Tandori oven in the kitchen. This place is as legit as it gets, and I've had Indian cuisine from coast to coast. Try the goat curry, it's awesome..the Tikka masala is rich and buttery..the buffet is an awesome deal for lunch if you want to test the menu....just go here, stop thinking about it, and go and enjoy the best Indian food in Utah. And as far as customer service, your glass will be refilled before it's empty! They are very attentive and polite people....I've literally eaten here over a hundred times, and never had a bad meal. Ramu's is the best chef around and Swami is an excellent server!

This used to be one of my favorite places but they've gone down hill. Cockroaches on the floor. Hair in the food. Hopefully they get their act together but the lunch Buffett was a disaster last time. There are so many better Indian places around, I don't think I will visit Ganesh again.

We love this place and come here at least once a month. I'm basically addicted to the Chicken Tikka Masala and the naan is amazing! They are generous with a free little wafer type of bread with two chutneys when you sit down. Sometimes they even bring a free tiny dessert.

Best Tikka Masala in Utah. Their lunch buffet is great. The naan is good as well as most of the dishes they serve up in their all you can eat lunch buffet. A must try if you're around Fort Union during lunch.

Had thali with Andhra curry. Food is decent. Service is excellent. Owner is very kind to exchange regular papad with baked papad and butter tandoori roti with plain tandoori with no questions asked. Great value for the money.

I came to Ganesh on a whim with some friends and what a surprise. The location is out of the way for me but I'll be coming back. The biggest problem I have with Indian food is the price. Most dishes are generally around $12-$14 and the portions are on the smaller size. But at Ganesh, I got the dinner special instead of a la carte and I was impressed with the amount of food I received. The dinner special includes your main dish, naan, rice, soup, yogurt sauce, vegetable curry, and the dessert of the day (which happened to be rice pudding). I am a huge fan of coconut korma and their's was enjoyable. It was a little too sweet for me but my friends said it was the best they've ever had. I'm looking forward to going back and trying some other dishes.

Good service but very poor food. The Masala source tasted as though it had started life in a tin of Campbell's condensed tomato soup...and hadn't changed much since then. The meat was tough and chewy. Poppadums and Naan bread were still covered in oil. I expect "Medium" to refer to the level of spice, not the temperature of the food. Salt Lake City has some awesome Indian restaurants these days: But this isn't one of them

This visit was our first. We ordered two Thalis: Chicken Tikka Masala and Chana Masala. We loved that any of the entrees could be ordered thali style with naan, rice, riata, a veggie side dish, and a dessert. The food was good. We ordered medium spice but should have asked for spicy. Medium seemed more like mild. The restaurant was quiet, busy, clean, and the service was good.

Emily J.
The most mediocre Indian food I've ever had. The chicken tikka masala tastes like canned campbells cream of tomato soup with a few spices added in, both the medium and the spicy were very disappointing. The naan was rubbery. Rubbery! I'd rather have burnt. Even the mango lassi was not as good as others I've had. We had take out so I can't speak for what the service or ambiance is like, but the food was regrettable and we will not be giving it a second chance.

I was pretty skeptical of this place as I hadn't heard much about it. Decided to give it a go the other night and had a very good experience. My girlfriend and I were the only people there, which was a little awkward but the staff didn't swarm or annoy us. I got the Saag Aloo for 8.99, which is better priced than other local Indian places. When I ordered he asked if I wanted the dinner size, and I said yes. To my surprise, the dinner size comes with naan, soup, veggie curry, yogurt and rice pudding. Everything I got was good and it was a perfect size for someone as hungry as I get. Honestly, the food isn't quite as good as other Indian places in SLC, BUT for $12 I got a ton of food and I still certainly enjoyed it. I will certainly go back.

We had the chicken tikka masala and it was terrible.there was no flavor at all. We usually go to Ali Babas, but the reviews for Ganesh seemed promising. And the amount of food was what everyone said it would be.a lot of food! But what's the point of eating a lot of terrible food? Maybe other dishes are better, but don't get the chicken tikka masala. The naan was nothing special. And it came with a lot of interesting sides that were flavorful, but didn't satisfy my craving for tikka masala.

We went to Ganesh for the lunch buffet and I was not impressed. The food was okay but not particularly great. Service was also not very good. I don't think I would eat here again, which is unfortunate because they are so close to my office. India House and Royal India are much better. Go there instead.

Love the restaurant, this restaurant gives the best taste of South Indian restaurant in Utah. Hyderabadi Chicken Dum Biryani is the best, followed by Ginger chicken. Appetizer Chicken 65 is the best. Reasonably priced compared to other Indian restaurants. Need to have varieties in Buffet, only thing there buffet is more or like fixed one can guess what it is going to be, but items in the buffet tastes good.

Best indian food in Utah! There is nothing that compares to the food that you'll get here. I haven't ever had a bad meal from here. I highly recommend one of the Dosas. Plus, Ramu and Swami ensure that you get the best service. A must try if you're in the midvale area!

The most disgusting dining experience I've ever had. It was a red flag when my husband and I walked in at dinner time and the place was empty, lights off and one of the workers was laying in a booth sleeping. I wanted to walk out right then, but my husband is more polite than I am and wouldn't let me. The curry tasted like canned soup. The masala literally tasted like tomato soup and the coconut korma had absolutely NO savory coconut flavor what so ever. Just nasty! But we were both starving after long days at work so we ate about 1/3 of our food anyways. The only half way decent part was the nan. If it wasn't bad enough eating that slop, we were both up all night sick to our stomachs with multiple hours in the bathroom. My stomach was not right for 3 days after! I'm tempted to call the health department on them, but by their lack of customers and their recent Groupons ad, I can tell they're hurting enough. My husband now tells me that he'll listen to me next time I want to walk out of a restaurant before we sit down. Horrible experience! Steer clean of the death trap which is Ganesh! Unless you enjoy food poisoning, in which case, the place is perfect for you!

There are two kinds of Indian restaurants. One, the kind that caters to white people who want an "ethnic experience" complete with turbaned waiters, exotic decor, and mosty North Indian food, and two, the kind that is run by a humble family that often has a son or daughter running around and has lots of Indian clientele. Ganesh is definitely the latter, and while they have tried to improve the feel of the restaurant with booth/pillar refurbishing and repainting, it is not a flashy place to take a date nor a place to expect outstanding service. I have come here regularly for years because I love their Chicken Tikka Masala and their lunch buffet. The Chicken Tikka Masala probably reminds a lot of people of Cambell's chicken soup, but I find it divine and have never been able to imitate its mouth-feel and tandoor-smoke at home. I also like the biryanis that are offered with the buffet, and usually there is some south-indian fare like plain dosas or idlis. But there is a lot that drives me crazy about the restaurant. With the weekend buffet, there never seems to be enough naan because they only make about three at a time regardless of how many people are in the restaurant, and the sound that goes with the Telugu songs showing on the TV is often glitchy. They never seem to have enough help and people who walk in often don't know what they are suppose to do and sit there for a few minutes. Occasionally the rice has been hard in places, and about half the time they have clearly watered the raita and chicken tikka masala down to (I assume) stretch it further. There was also a time when the bathrooms had no cold water for quite a while, and recently I saw what looked like a baby roach running up the booth wall (though almost all restaurants have pest problems from time to time, though this is a worrying sign...). But I do like many of their food items, and the Chicken Tikka Masala is simply heavenly...so I keep coming back, but only for the lunch buffet or take-out. I regularly see lots of Indians, mostly college-age, and also lots of families with kids. It's definitely good to know what to expect.
India is the birth place of Chicken Tikka Masala and Curries. Indian foods are prepared with a blend of finely mixed spices quite popular across the region. The spices develop the rich taste in Indian food enough to boggle your mind. The ever-increasing fan base of Indian food around the New York city is steadily increasing because of the large number of Indians who traveled to the land of dreams. The Indians also brought their very own vibrant, colorful, and aromatic authentic dishes for the people in the West. While most of the Indian population is Vegetarian, Indian food is great for people who are looking for vegan or vegetarian food option. If you are a Meat lover, don't get disappointed yet. Indian food also boasts of some popular non-vegetarian dishes too. Few examples are the famous Butter Chicken, Mutton Biryani and Tandoori Chicken are enough to satisfy your taste buds.
Indian food has gained reputation all over the world especially in the United States. You can find many places serving the appetizing Indian food across all major cities in the US. India is a diverse country with different food culture originated from different parts of the country. While the Northern region boasts tandoori dishes and korma offering royal taste, the Western Ghats offers sea foods that is made in naturally sweet tender coconut milk. The South Indian food servers a quality of different dishes made from rice accompanied with spicy chutneys, curries and famous sambhar. Also, the Indian sweets are a delight to relish. If you ever want to have a burst of sugar syrup in mouth, don't forget to try few Bengali Sweets. Be it spicy, tangy, or sweet flavor, you can find everything in the Indian cuisine. Be assured that the melody of spices will surely bring delight to you.

Very disappointed should have read the reviews before I came in
(2)Mehul C.
Overall a great Indian restaurant! 4 out of 5 stars from places I've been to. Go check it out and you won't be disappointed!
(4)John C.
The buffet didn't look that great so we ordered off of the menu. The food was so so, not much flavor to the dishes. Anything with a tomato base tasted like Campbells Tomato soup. Not sure we would come back.
(2)Tony L.
(2)Jonathan M.
(5)Albert H.
(4)Alex E.
Service was good - very friendly. Sadly, though, the food was subpar. The tikka masala tasted like chicken in cream of tomato soup and the ginger chicken had a very odd texture - kind of like chicken in batter that had been left sitting for a while, then microwaved and dumped in a sauce.
(2)Charles Y.
(2)Anne Marie S.
This was a nice find for a lunch break. I went with a coworker and enjoyed the buffet. The price was good and the selection was excellent. Flavors were rich and reminded me of the yummy indian joints I went to in the Silicon Valley. Looking forward to checking out the dinner menu!
(4)Steve S.
Solid food. Good flavor. Clean Restsurant. Ambiance is lacking.
(3)Benjamin T.
(1)Liz B.
(1)Paul T.
This place was amazing. Portions were good, great bread and good service.
(5)Hayley C.
(1)Brett N.
(5)Brad M.
A friend took me here and I love it. The lunch buffet was great, I loved everything in it. I would go again.
(5)Harsha R.
(3)Eve P.
(3)Morgan L.
(2)Robin P.

Love the food & love the service.....

(1)Kelly V.
YUMMY!
(5)Chris A.
(5)Todd G.
(5)Brent W.
This is so-so Indian food. Royal India ia much better. The chicken tikka Mesala was good though.
(2)Mickey M.
Very good Indian food. Dosas, sambar, vindaloo, and lamb curries are all excellent.
(4)Randal L.
(4)Brandon C.
(5)Ken V.
Solid in every respect. Good Tandoori Chicken. Nice curries. The non-stop Indian hip-hop music videos were...interesting. The Thali style meal is a nice to way experience a very full meal. Two for full dinner, each with adult beverage....$40. I will be back.
(4)Mike C.
(4)V L.
(5)Chris C.
The dosas and lamb samosas are really quite good. I haven't seen the dosas anywhere else in Salt Lake, either. They also have good biryani dishes. I need to try more!
(4)Brian R.
(4)A C.
i love ganesh! food is great. although the ambiance is kinda strange- staff tends to stand around trying not to stare at you- but it's become kinda funny. and i always love the buffet and the people are friendly. i notice it's frequented by lots of indian people- good sign.

(3)Jennifer S.
(2)Vamshi K.
I would give a three star based on my experience with this place. Food was average and cold. Not many items are refilled unless asked for. Delayed response. Probably will visit again to see if it is same and will update my review on it.
(3)Gordon B.
(1)Joshua S.
Heard across the wall: "Do you need a diaper change?" x 3. Lovely image when about to eat curry... Highlight: Dal Makhani made with black lentils, onions, tomatoes and spices. The tandoori chicken was really good. Everything else was just...OK.
(3)Chad B.
(5)Jennifer B.
I used to get take out from here all the time and I LOVED this place but the last 3 times I have been sorely disappointed. Go to Bombay House or Tandoor Grill.
(1)Michael M.

(1)Brandon R.
(3)Jen A.
I've never liked Indian Food but have loved every visit to Ganesh. The staff is very informative and friendly. Awesome atmosphere! We've never been disappointed with anything we've ordered and everyone we've taken there has loved it too!
(5)Mark B.
I had curry chicken, it was tasty and good curry flavor. My challenge was portion was small. Served in little bowl and mostly sauce. The place had 3 table at 6:30 Wednesday . Server was sweet but and efficient .
(3)Anita C.
(2)Rena A.
I love this place. Food is always delicious and there are tvs playing music videos while you wait for food. I go at night and there usually isn't another person in there but I've heard is crazy busy around lunch.
(4)Jeffrey S.
(5)Matthew H.
(5)Shankar R.
(4)Vida A.
(2)Eric B.
(2)James H.
My wife and I LOVE this place. We always get the chicken korma with garlic naan. It's not a chain or some fancy restaurant, but it's good food. We've taken about a dozen of our friends and they have all raved and are always wanting to go back. If you don't mind a few oddities, this place is awesome.
(4)Mike A.
Everything was way too salty for my taste. I don't think I wanna go back again. Service was nice on a positive note.
(2)Bret R.
(5)Tin S.
the tiffins are tasty. the biryani is not a great taste as hyderabad biryani. overall 4 stars for their taste.
(4)Diego E.
Bad Food, bad food.. Probably the worst Indian food that we have ever had...bad service, rude service and manager.. This place has gone down hill dramatically... Basically horrible experience
(1)Deb W.
Delicious food, friendly service.
(4)E N.
(5)Joe P.
This used to be one of my favorite places but they've gone down hill. Cockroaches on the floor. Hair in the food. Hopefully they get their act together but the lunch Buffett was a disaster last time. There are so many better Indian places around, I don't think I will visit Ganesh again.
(1)Kathryn S.
We love this place and come here at least once a month. I'm basically addicted to the Chicken Tikka Masala and the naan is amazing! They are generous with a free little wafer type of bread with two chutneys when you sit down. Sometimes they even bring a free tiny dessert.
(5)Allan M.
I've tried numerous Indian restaurants in Utah. Ganesh is hands down the best. They are not only the most delicious but also the best value.
(5)Steve K.
Best Tikka Masala in Utah. Their lunch buffet is great. The naan is good as well as most of the dishes they serve up in their all you can eat lunch buffet. A must try if you're around Fort Union during lunch.
(4)Sri V.
Had thali with Andhra curry. Food is decent. Service is excellent. Owner is very kind to exchange regular papad with baked papad and butter tandoori roti with plain tandoori with no questions asked. Great value for the money.
(4)Vi T.
(4)John P.
Salt Lake City has some awesome Indian restaurants these days: But this isn't one of them
(1)a d.
(4)Emily J.
(2)Grason R.
