soo, the "after party" was held at cafe sabor where, after a week of forced sobriety, i decided long ago that i would drink my dinner. i had already polished-off half a bottle of wine before i remembered that i ordered a steak salad ... and i don't eat red meat. (oh, shit.) wait, no worries, all the more room to drink! i pawned-off the meat to the bro but ate some greens for "cushioning." yes, i do think that attempt was futile. to answer your question, the robot, MJ's thriller and the chicken dance were all (poorly) renditioned that night, courtesy of aimee o, the classy MOH. (you can bet your ass that i'll de-tag when those babies are posted on FB.) and when the first wave of munchies kicked in, there was leftover wedding cake to bury my face in ... yaaaay! i discovered that i really, REALLY like fondant. two hours later, when the REAL munchies kicked-in, i knocked on a fellow bridesmaid door to enjoy her boyfriend's leftover chicken burrito ... and it was goood. a gift from god if you must. in a land far, far away - otherwise known as brooklyn - this concludes the "tales from UT: a dry wedding adventure." the end. wooootttt!

Always disappointing, not because it's bad, but because it's close. Consistently sub par food for consistently a few bucks more than I should have to pay for it. Just misses the mark again and again by enough that you sort of walk out thinking, I need to remember not to bring anyone here...

  • Bevan E.

I would have given this four stars several years ago. Recently, I've found their food quality to drop a notch. Still good, just not as consistent as before. Atmosphere in the old train depot is much better than most restaurants in Logan. Definitely worth trying if you eat in the Valley regularly.

I really like this place. Good food and great atmosphere. Easy to understand why our guests brought us out of towners here

I've been here twice and have yet to be truly impressed or disappointed. I feel like it's a pretty solid restaurant but it wouldn't be my first choice.

Cafe Sabor isn't really traditional American-Mexican food, but is more California-style. The restaurant is inside an old renovated train depot, which gives it a fun atmosphere. In the summer there is outside seating, which is great in the evenings and a little rare in Logan (for obvious reasons, outdoor seating is not available in the winter). The food is very tasty and comes in large quantities. The salsa is pure addiction and I often have to struggle to not stuff myself silly on the chips and salsa. Cafe Sabor also serves alcohol (not always a given in Utah).

  • N N.

Honestly, I probably like this place so much 80% because of the atmosphere and 20% because of the food. But that's okay. It's a really cool building and it feels more special than just going to a regular restaurant. The food is tasty and not authentic, and that's fine.

First we come in and the ambience reminds me of a tropical restaurant located in Virgin Islands. We were seated quickly. Upon our arrival to our table, there are free chips and salsa. I love free items!!! I ordered the Tacos al cabron and my hubby ordered a chimichanga. The food reminded me of a mixture between Southwestern and Mexican. My personal opinion it was not authentic Mexican but more Americanized. This does not mean the food was bad, it was still good. If you want authentic Mexican, I suggest La torments, Paco's tacos, or king tacos. all the restaurants I mentioned above are local in Logan and are fraction of the costs. I gave this place three stars because food was ok, setting was beautiful, prices were meh, and there were a lot of annoying flies.

Solid Mexican food. I love the location in an old train station.

Awesome food. Fun atmosphere. Really surprised at how good the Mexican food was for Utah (I'm an Arizona guy who eats Mexican every day) The Camarones a la Diabla was the best shrimp dish I've ever had. Got mine very spicy and it was killer. Awesome flavor, shrimp was cooked perfectly. My wife had the Pollo Durango and it was excellent also I'll be back every time I come to Logan

Cafe Sabor is one of my favorite place for Mexican food in Logan. Don't be fooled, the food is not very authentic but I must say, I have never had better carne asada. I've eaten carne asada all over the U.S. & Mexico and have yet to taste anything more delish. It's gotta be their proprietary steak marinade that does it! The burritos are very popular along with the pollo durango. Hopefully you still have an appetite after devouring the amazing complementary chips and salsa.

Fast, friendly service. Good food. Unique ambiance. We stopped in after the Tour of Utah. Really enjoyed the food. We were seated upstairs which was a little disappointing because it didn't allow us to enjoy the full ambiance of this cute little restaurant. That didn't have an effect on the quality of the service we received though. We were promptly seated and drinks came quickly. We ordered in great time and received our food quickly. The food was great. I had a bean tostada and a cheese enchilada and really enjoyed them both. My son had chicken enchiladas and really liked his meal as well. We'll definitely give it another shot.

We drive 100 miles for their spinach artichoke dip. Amazing!!! The horchata is also the best I've tasted.

    (5)
  • Lizzy P.

We like the location of Cafe Sabor, but the food? Not so much. It's boring, and typical, and there is nothing fabulous about it at all. They do make all the rice and beans vegetarian and gluten free, naturally, however. So that's a plus. There is usually a long wait, so I guess other people like it a lot more than I do.

Had a good experience at Cafe Sabor. Our server was very friendly. When my wife's fish tacos came breaded, which she can't have, the server replaced them with non-breaded salmon, and didn't even charge us for the extra tacos which we got to bring home to a friend! Great food, margaritas, and good bottled beer.

As a recent SLC transplant my choices of Mexican food have been lackluster and just plain sad. After driving 100 miles I found a little Mexican dream in cache valley. Steak fajitas were delish but my only complaint is that the side of guac was too small. And Pepsi products. But 4 hard stars. Oh and I highly recommend the horchata.

  • Tamara Z.

Marginal food. I had to send the Taco al Cabon back. The tortillas were soggy and impossible to pick up. I then ordered the cheese enchiladas. TONS of cheddar cheese. Pretty sure cheddar is not authentic. We ordered the churro's for dessert. They were cold and the dip was cold. Skip this restaurant.

We enjoy eating here. Kind of a weird set up, but the food is pretty good. This past time we went, we were a little disappointed about how many flies were in the room. A few even landed on me. Not impressed.

  • Brandon H.

Cafe Sabor isn't exactly authentic Mexican food but it's pretty good. I would say it's like a classier Cafe Rio or Costa Vida (with more options). I try something new every time I come because I haven't found anything yet that makes me think "I HAVE TO HAVE THIS AGAIN." It's a pretty cool atmosphere in the old train station and always seems to be busy which kind of makes up for a menu that leaves a lot to be desired.

    (3)
  • Joe H.

There is a lot of hype over Cafe Sabor that I don't quite understand. The building and atmosphere are very nice (it's in an old train station), and the overall ambiance is pleasant. As you walk in, there's a large rotating griddle which advertises that they cook their own tortillas. I've had a lot of different things on the menu, and while nothing has been bad, similarly nothing has really stood out except for the chips and salsa, which are excellent. You won't be disappointed if you eat here, but it won't be particularly memorable either. Good place to go if you have lots of picky eaters.

  • Jason P.

Not really worth it. The food quality is horrible (Taco Bell is better). The servers are generally ok. This used to be my favorite place to eat but now I'd rather eat just about anywhere else.

Love the guacamole! Fresh and tasty. Great ambiance and excellent food. So glad we tried it!

  • Randal S.

Location is really fun at the old train station. That was the highlight, frankly. The service and food were noth pretty good but not stellar. It is pretty reasonably priced though, to be sure. To give you a frame of reference, if I lived in Logan, I would go here maybe once a year. Somewhere in that range.

    (3)
  • Eddie M.

this was my a great meal. I took away the tacos for the next day I liked it so much. They were very helpful with my non-gluten meal and even tho the staff was busy, they took the time to check menu items for me to make sure no gluten in the items. Sitting outside was nice.

  • Weston H.

My first time in Logan I ate at Cafe Sabor, it was great!! I recommend the Cali chimichanga it's not huge but very filling, the service was pretty fast and the chips and salsa were yummy. Overall I was pretty satisfied better than most Mexican places

    (4)
  • She-Wolves ..

Over-priced, subpar food. They charged us $8 for "guacamole" that was really just diced avocado. They didn't even mash it! Tried to freaking sweat us out by putting us in this hot-as-Hell upstairs room next to these old dudes talking extensively about orgasms. Their chips and salsa were good but not good enough to make up for the permeating stench of hair grease and a failing business. She-Wolf out.

Went there on Valentine's Day for dinner. They were not prepared for the crowd that night. Wait was long and they seemed very flustered. Served our food before we got our silverware which was weird. Our food was cold by that time. The chips were awesome. Fresh and warm. The food was really good, no complaints there. Big portions. The raspberry margaritas were not what we expected. We could tell they were made with a syrup-were hoping for fresh being in "Bear Lake" and all. I won't order those again. I had a taco, enchilada, chili relleno combo. It was very good. The guacamole was just ok. The salsa was not spicy at all. If we had been in a huge hurry, we would have been angry but it was ok. Gave us time to visit. We may be back.

My significant other and I were looking for Mexican cuisine for her birthday and decided to check out Café Sabor. It's located at the old Logan train station and is a pretty interesting building. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The food portions were large and relatively cheap although some selections seemed a bit too high. The food itself was pretty good, but nothing overwhelmingly great (the guacamole was bland). However, there was a variety of drinks and drink specials (Friday $3 margs and Monday $2 shocktops just to name a few).

  • A N.

The best in Logan! Love the carne asada, arroz con pollo, and baja chicken pasta. Try any of them you won't be disappointed. If you're after something less burrito-like try the sweet port quesadillas with jalapeño jelly, amazing! I've been coming here for years, worked here while in college and the food quality is consistently great. If you've never tried it or you're just passing through you deserve a cafe Sabor night!

Had their new Thursday special delivered. It was on time... the order was correct... all 17 who ordered were happy with their lunch! Can't wait to see what they come up with next! The staff was very helpful!

The place got better and I liked the food ... It was a reasonable wait time ... Fajitas were good.... I am really happy that the place has done better... Great going sabor! Good luck :)

Usually one of our favorite spots to eat... Today the service was slow and some of the food was cold.... Unusual being we are 1 of 3 tables currently. The server was newer and not sure how to handle our concerns.... We'll be back again because this place generally is good.

    (3)
  • Julie W.

Ordered the chicken fajitas. Was disappointed. Fajitas are supposed to be peppery. When it was first brought out I thought it had a bunch of spices on it, but it was pretty bland. Their tortillas, refried beans and rice were good though. Next time I'm ordering the burrito which was at least 10"long. No kidding!

I'm guessing someone figured out that Chi-Chi's means "Tits" in Mexican so that's why there's no Chi-Chi's and we have Cafe Sabor instead. But it may as well be Don Pablo's or Something Fresh-Mex or whatever. This place is the embodiment of Texmex, or California-Style Americanized Mexican Food (whatever that means, I've been to L.A.) or something. We had the veggie fajitas and a taco salad sin carne. The fajitas were passable, but they weren't creative enough to figure out how to make the taco salad entrée substantial without the meat and cheese and sour cream. So basically it was a big plate of romaine lettuce with a schmear of beans and rice. I can make a better taco salad in my sleep. I can also make a salsa that doesn't taste like Prego, one that actually includes chiles. That means spicy in American. Perhaps I should have gotten the Vallarta Burrito. However, despite the fact that I'm a sucker for real vegetables in Mexican cuisine, there is no such thing as burrito sauce. I refuse to acknowledge its existence. I would give an extra star for the uncharacteristically decent interior design, no-bullshit and efficient service, halfway decent rocks margaritas, and fresh (albeit, flour) tortillas. Wait, no. I get that we're in Utah and this town is 83.9% white, and a lot of that 83.9% is going to think Cafe Flavor is the bee's knees. But also, this place is 13.9% latino. Also, this place has Tandoori Fucking Oven. Therefore, no excuse for this mediocrity. Anything this pedestrian deserves a resounding meh, despite a handfull of... eh. whatever.

  • Zachary H.

I've always been impressed with Cafe Sabor... The service has always been great and the food is quite good as far as Utah Mexican Cuisine is concerned... It's nothing like you'll find in SoCal but its definitely good for NoUtah!!!

  • Kevin P.

I've added a star to my previous review because the owner responded to me and wishes to reach out and make it right. I always appreciate someone who actually has a passion for customer service and leaving a good impression. I look forward to giving this place another shot at which point I might add yet another star to my review.

Love the salads, fajitas, and burritos. Fun atmosphere and good service. Occasionally they get overloaded at peak times and service suffers a little. The price of popularity?

  • Travis P.

Cafe Sabor has a fun environment and I found the staff to be friendly. I had a sweet pork burrito and wasn't too impressed. It wasn't bad, but it was just okay. I really should have gone to Costa Vida and ordered a burrito their for about the same price. Now I may have been spoiled when it comes to these kinds of things considering I grew up in Syracuse, which is about 30 minutes from El Matador and has awesome food. Me and my wife also got the fried ice cream and neither of us was fond of it. It was my first time having it, she had it at El Matador and said that theirs is far superior to Cafe Sabor.

  • Colten R.

This place is amazing! I've been to a lot of Mexican restaurants in different states but this one is by far the best! The Pollo Durango is amazing, a must have! Along with the shrimp enchiladas, fish tacos and Carne Asada! The burritos are huge, and on Thursday nights you can get a "local burrito" and a drink (even a beer) for 6 bucks! The place is a must try and I would recommend it to anyone!

  • Lauren M.

This place came highly recommended, which frankly I don't understand at all. Between my table there were three different burritos ordered - all of which were mediocre at best. A mexican restaurant with no flavor? Yes, it is possible. A friend of mine from Mexico told me you can quickly judge a mexican restaurant by tasting their beans - the black beans here were cold and flavorless. Telling. Looks like we'll be driving down to Red Iguana in SLC next time we get the hankering for Mexican food...

  • Chuck S.

Always great service and great food. We love it when the weather is good and sitting on the patio is terrific. Their guac at your table is awesome.

  • Jim C.

The positives are the beautiful and interesting setting (former train station), the homemade chips and good salsa. Also the wait staff are friendly and easy going. The margarita was not particularly good and I would say that the food is simply average. It has the typical Mexican massive amounts of food with the emblematic plate of beans and rice topped with mountains of cheese. I can say the food here is not nearly as good or inventive as some of the unique Mexican restaurants we have tried of late in Oregon, Nevada and Arizona.

  • Christie F.

Until they get their liquor license problems sorted out, there is no reason to subject yourself to this place. Their spicy salsa is pretty good, if heavy on the garlic (note that the "mild" is basically ketchup with cilantro). They have fresh (flour) tortillas. But they also serve pasta, which is just wrong, wrong, wrong. As other reviewers have noted, the food is heavy and Americanized. If you're hungry for a cheese-fest and want to drink lemonade, head on over! If you want something spicy and tasty that will be well balanced with a margarita or beer, forget it. Oh, and the service is pretty much always awful.

    (2)
  • Scott J.

Some adjectives: awful terrible horrendous. I went here tonight and was nothing but disgusted, the service was terrible the food was cold special orders were made wrong. I would suggest turning around and going to el sol.

  • rylish m.

still no liquor license? for reals? boo! with draft beer and a fine tequila selection, cafe sabor would rate four stars for their camarones a la diabla (spicy). but sadly, no shrimps of the devil for this reviewer until management gets with the program.

  • Chef W.

We had heard such mixed reviews on Cafe Sabor that we decided to try it for ourselves rather than bank on others' opinions. It was a mediocre experience at best, unfortunately. The service was fine, though I did notice the hostess going back and forth from handling menus and making tortillas without washing her hands, and touching her face, nose, and mouth without washing her hands before returning to tortilla-making. I was more than a little grossed out. We ordered their carne asada steak, which was stellar, and husband ordered a creamy chipotle burrito, which was inedibly bad. The sauce tasted like feet, and the burrito contained at least ten ingredients which weren't included in the menu description--husband is fairly picky, and he would never have ordered it if he knew it contained squash (really, in a burrito?). We took it home and pawned it off on someone else, because we certainly weren't going to eat it. The carne asada steak was fabulous, and it was a real shame that it was the only highlight of our evening out. The salsas they serve with their fresh chips are pretty good, a little undersalted. I wouldn't voluntarily go back--there are too many other places that are solidly and consistently good to risk another mediocre meal.

I really, really, really want to like this place. It's close to my house and is quite charming (the only reason for the second star). But, in truth, every time I go, I swear I will never go back. Tonight was really the worst. The food is so bland (e.g. the salsa is like tomato paste) and overpriced for what it is. My daughter didn't even like the cheese quesadilla, which is a dish that should be pretty hard to mess up. And now, they've gone and lost their liquor license. It was empty and kind of sad in there tonight. Sigh. Sabor, GET IT TOGETHER!

  • Anna B.

I don't know why this place only has three stars. We once planned our whole anniversary trip in Logan just so we could eat here :) Maybe people are just ordering the wrong thing? We have ordered Pollo Durango (LOVE the freshly cooked tortillas), Pork Quesadillas (holy cow flavorful salsa), and Spinach Artichoke dip appetizer (my hubby's favorite). It's seriously a good thing we don't live in Logan, because we would spend waaaaaay too much money at this place. The service was fine, the atmosphere was fine (always a little crowded), but the food makes it all worth it. Definitely not just traditional Mexican rice and beans- this stuff is packed with flavors.

    (5)
  • Kathryn B.

Had great recommendations for this place but really we weren't thrilled with the food. It was fine, but overpriced for the taste that was nothing greater than just ok. The food definitely wasn't worth the wait, but the service was good.

  • Karina R.

Not a fan of west coast Mexican places. I miss my white queso back in the midwest. With that said, four stars coming from me is over-generous. Let me say this--I LOVE THE SALSA! And since I don't like much rice and beans, you can substitute for the amazing Coconut Soup. Very impressed with those two things. Tostadas were average at best. But it was a lunch combination. I'll have to try dinner there, and maybe I'll come back with a 5 star review.

Great service! Love the local, friendly vibe. Burritos are amazing! Tequila Lime Pasta is another favorite.

  • Trit S.

Don't waste your money or your time. We've been here many times over the years and just went there tonight because we had a gift certificate. Had a bad enough experience, I thought of a Yelp review right away. Pasta had about a pound of onions, my Quesadilla which I requested no onions had a bunch as well. Awful service, waitress was far from accomodating and acted extremely annoyed that we didn't want dishes that were loaded with onions, go to El Toro for good Mexican in Logan! Cafe Sabor reminds me of The Mayan in Salt Lake, somewhat of a popular place to go, but bad food and service.

So, Cafe Sabor is sort of like your big chain El Torito or Acapulco's - the food is okay, generic, huge portions, nothing special. Eating at Cafe Sabor is sort of like watching an episode of Home Improvement - you won't remember a single thing about it afterward, but for the 30 minutes or so it takes you to down the 3-item combo, you'll enjoy it just fine. So, why am I giving Cafe Sabor 4 stars? Because their outdoor dining is very nice during the summer. In the evening, you get to sit outside and enjoy the dusk. Why is it that there are no other dining establishments in this city that have outdoor seating??? So, go to enjoy the patio. The food is good enough.

    (4)
  • Ellemeno P.

Service has always been good for me. They treat you professionally, respectfully, and with class. Food isn't to die for, but the price/value is pretty good. I wouldn't say it's authentic Mexican food at all, but it is it's own type/flavor and it's own culture.

    (4)
  • Scott M.

Once I discovered the Carne Asada I could never refuse an invite to Cafe Sabor. Great portion sizes. Good taste. The complementary chips and salsa are always a great prelude into the meal. The setting inside the old Logan train station is unique and fun.

hate to say it but this really isn't quality mexican food. gotten sick eating here as well but worse cane found.

    (3)
  • Emily K.

Food: Kind of typical "Americanized" Mexican food. Decent, but not spectacular. Big portions; chips and salsa before the meal. Prices: Pretty reasonable, especially during lunch hour. Atmosphere: Great! It's built out of an old train station, and is quite an interesting place. Service was average. Overall: There are better places in Logan for Mexican food, but it's probably an okay bet for a nicer sit-down place.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
