I went with a friend and we decided to have sushi. The food was really really good, but the service was so slow. We walked in at about 7:30 pm on a Saturday night. There was a full habachi table and a habachi table with one couple. We waited a couple of minutes for someone to seat us, and we were seated on the sushi side which had one group of 3 men. My friend and I each ordered one roll, but the wait was incredibly long. Again, the food was so good that I wanted to order another roll, but didn't have time to wait another half hour for one roll. The server was very polite and pleasant, but the wait time for everything, including paying for the meal, was just too long. If they can improve that, I'd be more than happy to make this a regular stop.

The Hibachi is standard and as expected, but the sushi was sub-par. I ordered the steak and chicken teppenyaki and it was a significant amount of food, more than I could eat, but was cooked well and tasted ok. I also ordered an appetizer of sushi which included two full rolls - a California roll and a spicy tuna roll. This seemed like a good deal at $8.99 but the sushi did not taste fresh and after 4 bites (2 of each), I just could not consume another bite of the sushi. While this met my craving for teppenyaki, there is a better hibachi grill in SLC that I will visit the next time.

Went here for my MIL's birthday. We went on a weeknight, so it was fairly quiet. It was 8 people total, 4 couples. Most got the steak and shrimp special, I got the chicken Yaki Udon. We also got the fried wontons and vegetable tempura as apps. I've been to a few sushi places and Tepanyaki style places, and the overall atmosphere was on par with similar restaurants on a quiet night. What really makes or breaks a place like this is your chef though. On to ours... He was great! Animated in how he cooked, excellent aim with the shrimp too. He did a few extra things for the birthday gal, and was very charming. I wish I had gotten his name. I nabbed some of my husband's steak which was *delicious*. My Yaki Udon was really tasty, and even tasted good as a leftover lunch the next day. The vegetable tempura was good, as were the wontons. Overall it was a fun relaxing experience and the staff were quite friendly. We decided we need to go back soon.

WARNING. Quite lengthy, but worth the read. The food here is great. Probably the best hibachi place within a 15 mile radius. The husband and I have been here multiple times. Service had also been great, except for this one server. We were here 2 nights ago. She was a bit rude. The vibe I got from her is that she didn't want to be there and why am I serving these people? First, we were ask if we wanted a sushi menu. I said no. Then were directed to seat ourselves "at those seats right there" while she pointed from the other side of the section. I was getting ready to sit down when she interrupted and said excuse me to give us menus. So I had to step away for her, but she told me to have a seat. I decided that I am craving for sushi as an appetizer. I got up and grabbed the sushi menu. She came back and gave me a look and said, "I thought you didn't want sushi." All with a blank stare in her face. This came off as an attitude to the both of us. I told her I changed my mind. BIG DUH! Why does it matter to her if I wanted sushi? For the hibachi order, we were asked if we wanted soup or salad. I asked just one? She repeated with an attitude- like hurry up and order. WOW. The past 3-4 times we were there for the summer hibachi special, we received both. SORRY, MY MISTAKE! sarcasm My husband ordered fried calamari. The server came out and asked if we had gyoza with it in my face. No, you should know what we ordered, it's written down in your book and should be on the order ticket.the fried calamari was undercooked and soggy this time, but still tasty. Then he wanted more coke and asked if he could get some more. His cup was half full. She asked if there's something wrong. He said no, just wanted some more. She said she will come back and top it off for him later. He figured he should get a refill now since she's was busy with other guests. If a customer asks for a refill, you do as they ask.....hence server. Don't question it. Not that hard. We usually tip 25% because I know the server and chefs share tips. I tipped the hibachi chef a few bucks this time since he is always great and nice to us. This time I tipped only about 18%. The job as a server is to make people feel welcomed and happy that customers are here for your business. You have to have a bit of a personality. Maybe she was having a rough day. But don't take it out on someone and leave it at the door. That day, we didn't feel like that. At least the food makes up for it If we come back and see that she's our server, we will gladly leave and go somewhere else.

I've never had a bad meal. My favorite sushi is the Las Vegas...it's always tasty! We usually sit at the hibachi, entertaining and more than enough food. I always have leftovers. The hibachi chefs are super friendly. I love it here! Favorite restaurant in Layton!

I feel like I fell prey to the old "bait & switch" at Happy Hashi! The first time I went, I took my kids with me. The atmosphere at Happy Hashi was far more family-friendly than the other sushi joints I like to frequent (if you've been to Takashi you know what I mean. Not that I feel bad leaving my children at home when I eat there :). Anyway, at Happy Hashi I had a coupon for 50% off sushi rolls. My inaugural visit was good. The rolls we were served were huge! I felt like I got a good meal that wouldn't break the bank. Service left something to be desired, but could be overlooked, considering the value of the meal. Fast-forward to our second visit. I had my Yelp check-in offer, for more 50% off rolls. The service was even worse this visit! Slow. And I had to get ornery with them about redeeming my yelp offer, because they were giving me a hard time about doing it. The worst part, though, was the size of the rolls. We placed an order identical to the one on our first visit, and the sushi rolls we were served were half the size they had been on our initial visit! It was almost like someone was playing a bad joke on us. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice... Well let's just say I'm not going to let that happen.

The last few times we've gone the service hasn't been very good and is beyond slow, and rolls were made wrong twice. We decided we may not go back.

Really good place with decent sushi. The spicy tuna roll was a little mushy, but the spicy salmon roll and the Alaska roll were really good. My son had the chicken rice boll and really enjoyed it. The staff was friendly and the decor wasn't bad. Well probably be going back soon.

I was scrolling through to look for sushi and saw this restaurant and realized I hadn't left my review from lunch this week. Ugh, the calamari batter was soggy and super bland, the rolls were pretty decent and then I got a piece that tasted like foul old fish. Given the first 5 slices tasted fine but that one turned my stomach and I just couldn't eat anymore. I'm super picky with sushi and my coworkers love this place but I wasn't impressed.

The sushi is awful. The customer service needs definite improvement. The health department reviews solidify my reasons for avoiding this place. I have not tried the hibachi but I don't plan on it. The energy here is very low vibration. It's just eerie and weird. Soy containers are very dirty. Menus filthy. Low quality sushi that takes forever to prepare. Staff more concerned about gossiping than serving customers. There are more options around. Avoid this place.

Went for lunch. Absolutely the worst service I have ever received. After an hour one person had finished because they got their food after twenty minutes then another after fifteen minutes. At an hour I finally got my sushi but not the whole order. One person still hadn't received their order after an hour and a half. My sushi was completely inedible. The manager tried to accommodate us but still terrible. I will never go back. Two tables got up and left as their food took over an hour

Everything about this restaurant is fairly average but my wife and I have been going here to be served by Corneilius one of the sushi chefs and he's awesome.

I usually go on my lunch and sit at the sushi bar. I like that chef. Not bad for the price. Havnt tried the hibachi side.

The hibachi chef was funny and the food was great but the service side was very slow to get seated and getting drinks. I really enjoyed talking to the chef while he cooked. Plus their sushi 50 percent off.

Comparable to Osakas up the street. Subpar sushi but the service was pretty good. They've done more fixing up so it doesn't look that bad. But considering the price I would head up the road to tepanaki's

I was excited for a new sushi place to pop up. The first visit was a B+. The second visit a C. We thought we'd try a third time to see if it was any better, but I definitely give them an F for service, D for cleanliness, and C for taste and value. The last couple visits my wife and I noticed greasy menus, countertops, and soy sauce bottles. The overall atmosphere just didn't seem very clean. And to top it off, the employees were watching TV and talking about what plans they have for the weekend instead of cleaning the place and serving the customers. There are other places I'd rather go for sushi just due to lack of cleanliness at Happy Hashi.

Stopped in for lunch and were very pleased. The food was great and the prices reasonable. Our waitress was very helpful, offering suggestions when ordering and checking back numerous times to make sure all was well. We'll be back.

Tried it recently, bad service and bland food. Had a filet (Rare) and salmon along with the other standard tepanyaki fare. Sushi roll was subpar and most of all, our waiter was....umm...... better suited to offer us paper or plastic. I can't imagine they'll be in business long, especially when there's a Tepanyaki down the street that's consistently decent. 2 stars is generous.

This place was for sure the worst sushi I have ever had! Yes, ever. I would rather eat the commercially prepared California roll sold at Target. It truly is that bad. And the service was non-existent. Take my word for it, you do not want to waste your time.

The "Grand Opening 50% off Sushi" sign caught my eye and thank goodness for this discount! I can't imagine this place surviving after its grand opening promotion. We ordered several specialty sushi rolls: Philadelphia, Crunch, Mountain Stream, and Unagi rolls. Don't make the mistake of any sushi with cream cheese. If you're serving cream cheese with sushi or California rolls, you obviously aren't "Authentic Japanese food" and need to take your sign down. The Crunch and Mountain Stream were good, though the yellowtail in the Mountain Stream was on the sketchy warm side. The service was a bit slow due to the fact that servers stood around chatting. No wonder the manager came out to the floor to bitch about a particular server at the sushi chef...which was so unprofessional. Other than this, the place was pretty clean. Then again we were one of two groups there for lunch.

The only thing I didn't like here was the miso. It was so incredibly salty it was difficult to eat. We had several rolls and each one tasted great. I was wary of trying it based on other reviews but honestly can't say I agree. The prices were right on par with most other places to begin with and they were all 50% off. The most we paid for a specialty roll was $6.50 after the discount. We paid around $3.25 for yellowtail and California rolls. Haven't had the tepanyaki but the sushi was delicious. Really friendly and prompt service too.

this the second time I had came to the this restaurant, the first time food was good and service was awesome. but the second time the food was okay. My only suggestion Happy Hashi, lay off the spicy mayo. All my sushi rolls had spicy mayo. I did the comparison, with the picture in the menu with my order, two sushi rolls was supposed to have the spicy mayo and the other three was not supposed to have the spicy mayo, but all of them did. All of the sushi tasted like the spicy mayo. Anyways, service was sub-par, my waiter looked confused at time, but hopefully its new hire if not I could see why people complain about the service.... what happen happy hashi the first time it was great, the second time it sup-par, i could just imagine how the third visit would look like...stay consistent with your food and service....

Surprised about the bad reviews. I lived in Japan for 3 years and I found the sushi rolls pretty good and the katsudon dish was great. Service was quick and the restaurant was clean.

All honesty I would give happy hashi a 5 star if it wasn't for the service. Food is great, awesome in fact. But the service is just not there. Our waitress the last two times has been great, but the first few times we came we literally waited about 20 min for service when there was no one else in the building. But an easily forgivable offense once you taste the food. Rockstar is my favorite roll.

We came here for some sushi and it was pretty good. All of the sushi was half-off and the quality was good for the price. Unlike Sushi Ya, they didn't pile on excessive amounts of rice on the rolls. We really enjoyed the Mt. Fuji roll. The staff was so so.

The sushi here was pretty good. Not the best I've had but I'd come back again. The service was fantastic! Our waitress was very attentive and saw to our needs without being asked.

I gave 3 stars because of the service by Melissa. The sushi was good but not the best have had. Chicken is overlooked. $1.50 extra for fried rice isn't something I accustomed to.
