This place is great. The food is awesome and there's something for everyone. Sandwiches, soups, breadsticks, stuffed breadsticks (similar to a high quality and filling pizza pocket), sweet rolls, cookies, eclairs. Everything homemade and tastes fresh and delicious. My favorite is to get the half sandwich and Salad with a sweet roll and a bottle of IBC. It's in a little area that contains a craft boutique, as well as a privately owned toy store right across the street. A great little community area for your whole family. I highly recommend taking the leisurely drive up to this place and enjoying your time. It's always relatively busy so you know it's good.

Bun Basket is the only dining establishment in all of Fruit Heights. I think it's the reason that it remains busy. It doesn't have much in the way of competition. The set-up is counter-style service. You line up and walk past a the glass pastry case, fill out a paper form (if you want to order a sandwich), and pay at the cash register. Seating is not plentiful, and neither are the pastry selections. Usually, the choices are cookies, and sweet rolls. You have nowhere near the choices a: Panera, Kneaders, or Paradise Bakery offer. Their sandwiches are average. Their salads aren't too creative. And their soups taste like they've been reconstituted from a powder. If your a person that likes carbs, their savory rolls (ie- bread dough filled with different cheeses, meats, or vegetables) are actually pretty good. If you order anything that takes preparation you will encounter a bit of a wait. But, the one thing that keeps me going back, and that earned them three stars (according to me); rather than two... Are the homemade bread loaves you can purchase and take home. The light honey wheat is my favorite. It's not too dense. But not too light, that it easily falls apart, either. It's perfect for making sandwiches. If I want a soup/sandwich/salad lunch, or if my sweet tooth needs to be satisfied; Bun Basket will not be my first choice. But you will see me in there buying bread, on occasion.

Service is horrible. Each time we have gone in there, employees do not greet you and they act like they hate their job. Each time I've let it go, but it happens every single time. I am going to make up for all those occasions now, I'm not returning to this store.

I love this place! I have gone here often since I was a little girl. My favorite are their raspberry sweet rolls! They also have great stuffed buns that you can get in pizza, veggie, and different kinds of lunch meat. It's all super yummy!

There's a funky wooden sign for Bun Basket, on the highway that I have driven by forever, and finally decided to take the detour The place is tucked away on the east bench and is a fun find. It is tiny, but good things come in small boxes. I tried the stuffed breadsticks and can highly recommend. I could not resist a sweet roll and yum. The line went out the door as I was leaving, and if I hadn't been in a hurry, I would've lingered and people watched. There are only just a few tables, but there are some outside also. Next time I am trying the soup. If you've a yen for homemade bread type items, this is your place. Prices are reasonable and service was personable and fast. This is a great place for comfort food. ________________ Update: Another quick stop for snacks to take to Trapper's Loop to see the fall colors. I ordered a 1/2 roast beef sandwich (fill out a little paper and they fill your sammy just how you like it), a mini stuffed breadstick and a cinnamon knot. My friend got similar plus cookies. I can recommend the roast beef sandwich and the stuffed breadsticks. Tasty critters. However the cinnamon knot was disappointing, And sadly the cookies were bland and boring. I think it might be a MIX that they use for both the sugar cookies and the snickerdoodles. They tasted very siimilar and had the same texture. NOT to be done in a bakery. So, DO go for the regular sammies and stuff breadsticks and leave the cookies to others. Still looking forward to trying their soup sometime. Fun little place.
