The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Nice little hole in the wall. The owners of this place are super friendly, and you get some great food. They changed up a couple of the recipes, and I have been very impressed. The ravioli was very flavorful, a little skimpy, but very good. Count me in for years to come!

I hate to do this, but... I was excited to go to our first local restaurant in Bountiful as we are new residents, and we LOVE Italian food. We were the only ones dining in the restaurant during our visit. It was small, yet cozy and had a small town feel with the decor, and the waitress was friendly. The menu was limited with fairly simple common American Italian dishes; fettuccini Alfredo, chicken parmigiana, spaghetti with meatballs etc. To get to the point; bruschetta was like salsa on bread, literally. I've never had it prepared like that before. Salad was underwhelming and small, but tasted fine. And then dinner came...small portions for dishes that were $14 a piece (but not like gourmet small where it tastes so good it's worth it). My husband's sausage was overcooked, tuff, and chewy. His spaghetti was over cooked, like when you leave it in the pot after you turn off the heat for too long. The marinara sauce was bland. Then my dish was basically two French crepes; one filled with runny cheese and the other with ground beef. We were so disappointed, but the waitress was so friendly we didn't want to make her feel bad. We left hungry, even though we ate the food (we were hungry!) I wonder if it was the food leftover from the day (since we were the last customers of the evening) Sadly, we won't be going back.

Great food. Great service. We had a party of 5. Ordered gnocchi, spaghetti with meatballs, spaghetti with sausage, chicken parm, and lemon chicken with linguine alfredo. The gnocchi is made in house and was delicious. The alfredo sauce was the perfect texture and flavor. The marinara and meatballs were seasoned well. We ordered canolli for dessert but they were out. The chef (and I would guess owner as well) said they had panacotta and if we didn't like it, we would not have to pay for it. Suffice it to say, we paid for 2 orders. Perfect texture.

This place is lovely. Don't expect fancy dining, or a huge selection. Expect an intimate setting, with excellent service, and quality food. The price is fair, considering, all of the food is homemade. The dishes are well portioned, and all entrees (except pizza) come with salad and bruschetta. You won't be disappointed with the soothing atmosphere and homemade feel this place has. The seating is limited but part of what makes this place special is its quaintness and authenticity. One last shout out to our hostess - friendly - genuine - don't get that in many places, period!

This a hidden gem! Wonderful authentic Italian food. The sweet couple who own/run the restaurant make the experience feel like you are at your grandparents kitchen. I had the ravioli and meatballs my husband had the gnocchi. Dinner was perfectly cooked, sauced and made with love. Eat here! Tell your friends!

The location at atmosphere of the restaurant is very cute old town main street, as it is right on main street bountiful which has a very charming aura to it. It is a bit divey inside, but they pull it off to the point that it just feels charming. The service was just okay, and though we did have some issues with not getting things, and her forgetting who we were and whether we had ordered, she was the only server so I think she was just a bit flustered, especially since a large group of 8-20 walked in before us. The food was all okay, and was plated like something you would serve up yourself at home and the plates and silverware are all very cheap "mommas home" too. The food was all okay but nothing exceptional, in fact the owner/ cook has a cart at the local farmers market that serves up much better food. I ordered the daily special which was a spaghetti with alfredo sauce and their grilled house sausage. As a note I have had the sausage before at the farmers market and it was much better and much less overcooked. This one was pretty hard and seemed like it was cooked several hours ago and kept warm, I know they make them in house but this one must have been an off batch because it tasted nothing like the other I had which had a delicious depth of flavor and spice. The spaghetti was pretty good and though the pasta was a bit overcooked the sauce had a rich buttery flavor to it and I would order something with that sauce again. My wife ordered the Meat Cannellini again with the alfredo sauce on top instead of the marinara. They were quite tasty, basically two crepes filled with some veggies cheese and ground beef, toped with alfredo and cheese and served on a skillet. They were the highlight of our meal. Our entrees came with a salad and bruschetta, and the salads were just beyond sad (see pic below) Basically just cheap iceberg lettuce in a cereal bowl with a slice of cucumber a small tomato and an indistinguishable dressing which may have just ben a dash of white vinegar. My wife and I had one or 2 bites each before just giving up on it. We realized part way through our entrees that we had not gotten our Bruschetta so I let the server know we didn't get it, and she said "oh, well would you like to order some?" and I said "didn't these come with it" and she said it did but wanted to know if we still wanted it.... yeah I would like the free thing that was supposed to come with my meal... Anyway so then we get the bread which was not very good, I know that bruschetta is essentially an Italian salsa, but I think this may have just been salsa. It didn't have an Italian flavor and the veggies and tomatoes were cut very tiny, and I've never seen one where they weren't all diced at about a quarter inch or more, and for whatever reason it made it feel unappetizing and not as fresh. I'm sort of in between as to whether I would go here again, I don't think I would go out of my way, but if I was near there and hungry I might consider it, but even that is mostly based off of the fact that I've had some awesome grilled chicken, sausage and beef with roasted vegetables at the grill cart he has at the market . So id be willing to give them a second chance because it may have been an off night. in summary the food was not bad, it just wasn't delicious and I have had almost the same quality food out of a can or freezer.

Well damn. Won't come here again. We lament the lack of local business in Bountiful so had really high hopes. The bruschetta was fine. We laughed that it was served on Jimmy Johns paper. We had sausage pizza with mushrooms. It was so bland! Every element of it was bland. This place is prime pickings for Gordon Ramsay. I wish I could say different but we won't go back.

We were excited to try an authentic Italian restaurant for our Valentine's date and figured an hour and a half would be plenty of time to try this highly rated place. The staff was limited to family who openly admitted to not knowing what was going on but willing to help run the show and we got a kick out of that...at first. The menu stated we could order a two person meal consisting of beverage, antipasto, salad, bruschetta, entre, and dessert for $50. Awesome! Authentic food for that price; must be good! Our drinks came out followed by two rolls and a tiny bowl of mixed greens with one wedge of tomato, a sliver of onion, and a piece of fresh mozzarella drizzled with a vinaigrette. Sweet! Small salad means big entree! About 30 minutes later we still hadn't seen any sign of drink refills, our appetizer, or any bruschetta. People had been completely ignored and had walked out of the place by this point, or had half their party receive their meals while the other half were forgotten. Still finding humor in the situation, and having hopes that our meal would make up for it, we waited patiently. Understand, this place is very small. There were approximately 10 tables to serve with one that had people continually getting up and leaving - and the only drinks being refilled were waters while people sat and waited, and waited - so really there is no excuse for the poor service. Finally our food arrived. Two tiny canelloni with an accidental portion of marinara that was concealed by the requested alfredo. The filling was bland, the canelloni was hard and dry, and the sauce was screwed up. I ate one and pushed my plate away and my husband did the same. (I begged him to stop for a burger on the way home.) We had been there for one hour and 15 minutes yet had to finally stop a waiter and beg for drinks. No mention of the dessert was made as we waited another 10 minutes. Finally,no longer seeing the humor, we got up to pay. After waiting another 5 minutes at the register we were asked if we wanted our dessert to go. Yes, sure, have to pay full price for this awful meal anyway. Waited, again, while the dessert was being made (tiramisu and an Italian dulce de leche). Angry, and hungry, we barely made it to our movie where we filled up on popcorn. The only reason this place deserves the two stars I gave it is because when we got home and bit into our desserts, it was like heaven was opening to us, the clouds parted and rays of sunshine filled our souls as choirs of angels sang - that amazing. In short, if you go to this restaurant, only go for water and dessert and you will be very happy.

I've visited Marcellos quite a few times and have never left unsatisfied. Last night we took our two children for the first time and they loved it as well (and they are very particular about what they eat as well). The waitress was very Friendly and helpful. The decorations, music and owners truly give you an authentic italian experience. The gnocchi, fettuccine alfredo, pizza, bruschetta bread and salad definitely please the taste buds. There are a couple negative reviews regarding wait time, however if you want true italian food, preparation time is required. This is not fast food nor should it be to have great quality. I recommend this restaurant to everyone!

I think I am being a little harsh as I wish they had 1/2 stars - but I was really disappointed in this place. The Urban Spoon reviews were love or hate. The lovers are insane - unless this place used to be better. The food was not inedible or anything, just disappointing. No one really liked their meals and ate them based on hunger alone. Together we had the Chicken Parm, Italian Cheese Crepes and Spinach and Cheese Ravioli. I had the Chicken Parmesan so I can't really comment on the other meals. The chicken was cooked well but everything was under seasoned. I asked for parmesan cheese and also had to salt & pepper it. The meal came with a very basic, but fresh salad and their version ( a bad version) of bruschetta. The 'bruschetta' was stale hoagie rolls that were toasted and a mix of oil, tomatoes, onions, garlic and maybe olives were spread on them. Not chunky like a bruschetta topping, thin - which was fine because the bread was stale anyway. I think the service was really an issue. There was only one server but there were only 3 tables, including us. Our service was decently prompt and she was sweet but had no clue. We asked about the consistency of the marina - chunky or smooth & blended. Deer in headlights moment 1. Eventually told it was smooth - but it really wasn't. We asked if there were any appetizers available. Deer in headlights moment 2. Nope! There were 3 deserts on the menu and when we asked about them, none were available. But they had a carmel cheesecake that was wonderful. At least she thought it was a cheesecake. And I quote: "I don't know what it is but it's amazing". Uh huh. We just stopped asking questions because it was clear the answers would be wrong or unsure. Oh - and as it turns out, the 'carmel cheesecake' they supposedly had was Tres Leches cake. Good thing we passed on desert. We ended up going to Kneaders for desert. There were 3 of us, one from way north, one from way south and me in the valley. We wanted to meet in the middle in SLC, but because if the events that weekend we opted for one town north - Bountiful. Other than the Mandarin (which is overrated) there is nothing in that town. We gambled on Marcellos and lost.

I had dinner here on Tuesday night (2/4/14) and this is my new place to eat rea; Italian food is Marcello's Italian Restaurant, they put Robintino's, Pizza Pie Cafe, Zepponie's, and the Pizza Factory to shame. The sauce is homemade...the bruschetta is fabulous. I ordered the stromboli made with fresh dough which can easily be shared between three people for $9.99. The customer service is out of this world. I wish I would have checked them out sooner. They are open in the afternoon for a late lunch (2 ish) but it is so worth the wait. They also serve Argentine Beef which I will try on my next visit. I am planning to go there for Valentine's Day.....The owners are Giuseppe and Rosa they have been in business over 20 years. They are very sweet people and are waiting to serve you. I give them 5 Stars!!!

Their Italian Sausage is excellent and homemade. We selected two pasta dishes and their sausage pizza. I'm not a fan of the salad that came with the meal it was just ok. The garlic bread, which is really a bruschetta was excellent, we did ask for seconds and got it! Our spaghetti came covered with marinara sauce and dusted with cheese and a grilled Italian sausage, excellent! The garden fettuccine was excellent and different it had mushrooms and other veggies and it tasted like a bit of curry was added. We enjoyed our meal and found the portions to be on the small side but enough to walk away full. We enjoyed the pizza which was a thin crust with a excellent red sauce and the beloved sausage was perfect with the right amount of cheese. The space is small and narrow and not suggested for a large groups. The service is a bit slow but it's worth the wait and do not go without trying their beloved Italian sausage.

Walking through the front door I was certain that this place was going to get 2 stars. Tops. It looked sketch. We were seated and then sat for 5 minutes before we got the menu and another 5 before water was brought out. They never asked if we wanted anything else to drink. I was waiting for somebody to come out & say, "just kidding, we really know how to run a restaurant." After reviewing the menu, we made our choices - I had the garden alfredo & my wife had ravioli. Bruschetta bread was brought out while we waited for food. It was pretty good. The salad was okay. I did notice that the dressing wasn't the normal bottled oily mess that's normal at most places. That was my first clue that there was more than meets the eye to this place. The food was brought out & heavens to mergatroid, it was good. I saw the light. It was great and fresh. Nothing pre-cooked or reheated here. My wife ate the cooked carrots. She never eats cooked carrots. She even snuck a few off of my plate. I enjoy any place where the chef personally comes out to talk to a customer, asking about their meal. He was truly proud of what he was cooking and it showed in the food. I'm the type of person that wouldn't mind driving 2 hours for a good taco, so I won't mind sitting for 30 minutes for good Italian. Bring your phone and play flappy bird while you wait for your food, or call in an order to go. I think that if you go knowing what to expect, you'll see the diamond in the rough that is the food at this place.

Absolutely incredible food! Spaghetti and sausage was perfect and my wife had the spinach and crab cannelloni was great. Very quite place and we had a great chat with the owner. Very pleasant place, great food and very friendly people. Don't forget to try the panna cotta, excellent!

I didn't have the highest hopes walking into this place. I lived in Tuscany for 4 years and don't usually expect that any Italian restaurant in America will compare with what I experienced there. I was wrong! This place was great! Simple, authentic Italian food just like in Italy. For those who think the portions are too small, this is the way Italians eat, so again... Authentic! You want Italian food with our traditional American portions, go the Olive Garden. I didn't want to give less than 5 stars because I liked it that much, but here are just a few minute negatives... #1: the prices are a bit high ( in Italy, the prices are lower but you usually order multiple courses) #2: there are no real appetizers (but the meal does come with a simple salad and bruschetta) and #3: NO VINO! however, I have it on good authority that if you show up with your own bottle, they will more than likely let you drink it with your meal. One big plus and another reason why I love Bountiful is that the owners (Giuseppe and Rosa) are Italian from Sicily! It is not common too find Italian food made by actual Italians here in the US. They know their food! Overall, this place was molto bene! I will be going back because here one can experience Italian food the way it truly is meant to be enjoyed. Relax, don't fret about time, enjoy your family and friends and eat at Marcello's!
