Service was great and the food was very flavorful. Good portion size and great prices. We didn't care for the kid's fries. It was a big portion but way too greasy. I highly recommend you try it though. The traditional Peruvian dishes were amazing

If this is a hidden gem in Bountiful, then hide Bountiful! This is not a good dining experience. I couldn't agree less with most of the reviews. Most everything was tasteless and our meal was over priced.

3.4 stars long time since I was here but pretty good from what I remember & they had dancing for a birthday party etc.

I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to El Rocoto! The service was very good, she was super nice, very helpful and made good recommendations, she didn't speak very good English, but my wife is Columbian, so it was not a problem for us. I ordered some sort of special Peruvian chicken which was sort of like a Peruvian take on the Chicken Cordon Bleu but with a very nice mildly spicy cheese sauce, and my wife ordered a sort or BBQ'd steak plate with rice and fried plantains. My chicken was delicious, seriously awesome, and though it was a bit "crunchy" in a couple spots i think it was intended to be cooked that way as i think they fry the chicken dry before putting the sauce on it, but it added a nice texture range to it. The steak my wife had was also very good and was pretty much a differently seasoned Carne Asada. We also ordered a side of Fried Yucca, but it wasn't that good and was pretty dry. I think my place came with a side of potato fries and they were better than the Yucca, not just my American palette either as my wife is a huge fan of yucca, but didn't care for theirs. They also have a wide variety of seafood options but I'm not that brave i guess, especially considering I've recently relocated here from Kodiak Alaska where fresh seafood abounds. But i will say that it all looked quite tasty! The one i tried to convince my wife to get was a sort of mixed family grill that they bring out to you on the grill, but she wouldn't go for it. The person next to us got one of their half chicken, and it looked awesome, and they said it was awesome so i will probably get that next time. The atmosphere is ok, but it's a bit open and cafeteria feeling, but they have lots of windows so it is light, and you've got stuff to look at. The waitress did mess up on our order and we got the wrong item but it was quickly remedied, there were at least 3 other tables that also got the wrong thing and sent it back, so this may be an ongoing issue here. I would recommend checking this place out, they do a good job at making delicious food, and they also make it attractive so it feels a bit fancy in that way.

Cute little place. Their papa rellena is absolutely to die for, and their tallarin verde was the best I've ever had. If you go i recommend trying some of their Peruvian flavored waters, they are so much more refreshing than a regular cola drink. This is definitely a hidden gem you should visit when in Bountiful.

Friday around noon, party of 2 was no problem. Clean and easy to understand menu. Appreciated the descriptions, since I am unfamiliar with Peruvian food. Ordered Milianese de pollo, chufa de pollo, yucca, and saltada de carne. Yucca was well presented and the garnish was perfectly marinated. Sauce on that plate was not what I expected, but not bad. Saltado was great. Meat marinated and grill nicely for flavor and texture. Didn't find and mystery meat. Noodles were generic but cooked well. Chufa satisfied and was flavorful. I liked it all and took some home. I'd definitely come back. Service was average. Didn't know whether to seat myself or wait, still don't know if you order at the register or if the server comes to us. Good took 15 minutes.

Very different food! Come here if you are sick of the same old same old! I couldn't pronounce a thing on the menu but luckily all I had to do was point. I didn't know what to order so I asked the server what the most popular thing was. He told me the Saltado with any meat and the half chicken were the favorites. So I ordered the Saltado with chicken. My husband got the Parihueal. We also got the Chicha morada to drink and an appetizer I can't remember the name of. Saltado plate was good french fries on the bottom then chicken pieces in a sauce mixed with onions and tomatoes. It came with a side of rice. The Parihueal is a big bowl of soup filled with all sorts of seafood including a giant whole prawn. The soup has a chili powder flavor. The appetizer was this round looking potato thing. It was mashed potatoes with a a filling made with all kinds of things in the middle. It came with tomatoes and onions on the side soaked in vinegar. When I tried the chicken, my first thought was...uh oh...bland. Right then he server asked if we wanted to try some hot sauces. He brought them all out. It totally saved my dish to dip each bite into the different sauces. The green was our favorite by far! The spicy reddish one is spicy but the flavor is awesome! The fries on the bottom soaked up a lot of the juice yet never really became soggy. They were really good. The Parihueal had lots of seafood in it and we thought it was delicious. If I had let my husband do it...he would have poured all of the spicy sauce in it because he likes super spicy food. It probably would have been good with it in it too. The mashed potato appetizer was different but tasted good. While the flavor of the morada drink was good, it was just way to sweet for me! I had a hard time getting it down and had to ask for water. It also wasn't cold but more room temperature. Definitely needed ice. I don't know if that's non-traditional but it would have made it a lot better! The restaurant is sort of quirky. It is covered in Valentine decorations! In the ladies restroom, there is an old very large plastic picture of a cartoon penguin, I believe, waving and saying Merry Christmas on the back of the door. Interesting. I would go back to try more things especially if I had those wonderful hot sauces! The service was good and the food didn't take that long.

Another hidden gem in Bountiful and open on Sunday! Yes this is the sister restaurant to the one in West Valley city of the same name. First, apologies to the lack of photos, we pretty much ravaged the food when it it our table. The plantains were the smaller sweeter ones although ours weren't that sweet. The salchipapas is exactly what it says it is, sausages and french fries. Ignore the fact that it's from the kids menu, they were delicious especially with the selection of sauces for dipping. I also had a hard time deciding between Chicha morada and maracuya, a couple of specialty drinks. They gave me a sample of each to decide, very nice of them. Both were very delicious so it was hard to decide, I settled on the chicha morada, yum. We ended the night with some alafajores. While they weren't perfect looking, they looked decent and had a subtle caramel flavor. But that's pretty much how the place is, they don't spend all their time on making it perfect and pretty, they make it delicious and authentic. I kinda want to experience their Sunday brunch.

There is a whole menu here of Peruvian delicacies. Everything you could ever want in an epicurean relationship with that country. Or at least most everything. So I'm kinda disappointed that I had already eaten when I arrived, and we only had room for a little bit of salty and a few sweets. After enjoying some noodles next door, a group of us popped in for a late night sweet run. Here was this whole menu of delicious sounding items--the chicken, especially--and all we did was order a few alfajores and fried plantains, and a plate called salchipapas which is simply salchichas + papas. That's hot dogs and french fries, and I have no idea if that's even a Peruvian dish, or just something that they put on their kids menu. Either way it was late night magic. Look, I'm not saying that indulging in the treats part of the menu is bad. In fact, I love me a good dessert. I could have dessert two or three or four times a day (if my poor body would allow it--I'm not as young as I used to be) and I'm definitely very good at dessert. I'm a dessert boss, if I do say so myself. Ordering. Making. Eating. But I'm just pretty darn sad that the focus for me here was JUST dessert. So many other wonderful items on the menu, and I didn't really get to experience any of them. The good news is that in this case, I know right where to find these guys and the whole menu. So if I can get back there, I'm going fully hungry. And I'm showing some self-restraint and waiting for the dessert. But when I've explored that menu, tasted everything I've ordered, and feel already happy as can be, I'm definitely going back to the dessert menu as the proverbial caramel on the alfajor, burnt sugar on the flan, and icing on the cake.

Great food! Almost as good as back home. I gave it a 4 star because it took nearly 20 minutes to get our tickets and paid out. The chef was so kind and talented he personally came out and checked on us. I would go back for sure. I love the variety of seafood plates available. I was very pleased to see that. i had the saltado de mariscos. it was almost perfect. just a bit too salty.

What a nice change from the numerous, Chinese, Mexican or burger joints. Parking was easy, service was pretty good. Our waitress struggled with English but got the order correct and prompt with refills on our drinks. This was my first encounter with Peruvian Food but was puzzled with double starch (pasta and potatoes) or (rice and French Fries)..... The dining area is surrounded by TVs playing Spanish speaking sitcoms. All in all my green spaghetti dish with potatoes and chicken tasted very good. The plantains were ok, I would like to return again with reading glasses so I can actually read the menu next time. The portion size was a great value for cost. There was no room for dessert after a meal of that magnitude.

I went there for lunch. What I had was pretty good. I'm more of a vegetarian and they only had fish or meat entries and not many vegetables. They don't have a lunch menu. The chicken dishes were around $9 and the fish ones were around $12. Not many people were there.

I love everything they do... And they admittedly put MSG (ajimoto) in everything. This is one of Bountiful's great tragedies.

Great place! The food was fresh and excellent! I have never had Peruvian food before so I asked the waiter what he recommended. It was delicious! I will definitely be back.

I have been looking for a good Peruvian place. Now I have found an awesome one. Really authentic and home feeling and tasting food. If you want spicy ask for the hot pepper sauce. It's really good.

Got the quarter chicken with white meat, plantains, chicha morada and maracuya juice. Everything was really good. The chicken was on point. Tasty and moist. The fries were real. They looked like freshly cut pa'tots. That were lightly fried in a pan maybe? Oven fried? Dunno, but they were the perfect compliment to the chicken. The spicy green sauce tasted like cilantro but was still great. (Full disclosure: I hate cilantro.) Perfect amount of spice for me. My only complaint was that the lettuce in the salad that came with the pollo asado was a little on the old side.
