This place never disappoints me. I eat here every few months and it's amazing every time. Their shredded beef is so fresh and flavorful. Their tortillas are fresh, soft and delicious. I love their salads and burritos. If you get a salad, you must go with their house dressing, tomatillo. It's to die for. And my favorite is their chili con queso dipping sauce for their chips. It is amazing. My only complaint is that because they make it fresh every day, sometimes it is too thick and doesn't taste as good; it's a little too flour-y. But when it's made correctly, it's the best queso dip I've ever had. Bonus is that when you dine in, kids get a free cheese quesadilla. They're small, so they are perfect for younger children. And their special drinks are incredible also. You can't go wrong with this place.

Horrible customer service! They act like they are doing you a favor. The cashier (american man middle 30's) has the worst customer service, and has a horrible attitude. Asked him a simple question - "do you have horchata?" His reply we dont make them an hr before closing! If your open until 10pm you should offer all items on your menu, this only happens at your location.

Yummy yummy yummy!! Every time I've been here it's been delicious and get great service. The tortillas and sweet pork are to die for.

Great as always. I had the pork salad, a cafe rio classic. Meat, rice and beans were nice and hot. Excellent.

I have to be completely honest. If not for this location I would hardly ever go to Cafe Rio. I like their food, their price, a bit high but you can at least share most meals the portions are so big. This location rocks! They are so so friendly so up beat, know how to make you smile and they get the line moving fast. If you walk in and see a big line do t worry I promise it goes fast. I love that they sing haha makes me laugh every time. My food has never been messed up which is a plus and I can't say that for other locations I have been to. If you love Cafe Rio you will love this location. Best one I have been to hands down!

I have had the worst experience at his Cafe Rio. Service went down hill about a year ago. I used to go there literally 2-3 times a week! I have only gone twice in six months and that's just to remind me that the food and service sucks! I went last week and the guy at the register argued with me that a SMALL dressing was $1. I then went to the to go side and got my small dressing for .50 cents. He was just being a prick on purpose. I will never step foot in that cafe rio again! Their reputation is getting around quick too!

This restaurant is chaos. And I don't mean typical cafe rio chaos, I mean workers bumping into each other not knowing what to do chaos. They're pick up ordering is a mess with each worker telling you a different thing. Shout out Celine- very rude worker. I don't need a lecture from you for showing up 4 minutes early. I am not demanding anything and would have happily sat to the side and waited. Your attitude was disgusting. I'll hit up my local cafe rio in the future instead of this. Train your workers better, so they're all on the same page.

Worst Cafe Rio in Utah.. they are seriously slow and careless. I hope the owners actually read these and put a foot in that ass!

Absolutely terrible service (all four times I have been here). I will continue to eat at Cafe Rio, just not this one.

This is the only Cafe Rio I have been to with awful service. Management must be okay with it because even after repeated complaints, nothing has changed. Steer clear!

The one thing consistent about this location is your order will be Wrong! Every damn time, wrong! I've emailed them to tell them how consistent they are on screwing up orders. They gave no response..... Speak Greek when you call in an order and you'll have a better chance of getting what you paid for.

It seems like I'm not alone in saying this Cafe Rio location is a "little off." This location definitely has the worst customer service I've ever experienced. I've been there on multiple occassions and seen the staff argue with each other right in front of customers, roll their eyes at a customer request, or even been down right rude for no apparent reason. The first time I went, I just figured they were having an off day, but it's been that way EVERY time I've gone. Maybe a management issue? I would actually probably be able to get past that if the food were the same quality, but it isn't. I got a burrito one time that wasn't even rolled up so the beans and rice were just a mess all over the little tin they give you. One of the employees argued with me over the size of salad dressing I get with my pork salad (Do you not get the larger size container of dressing? Am I crazy? Because that's what they do everywhere else) and told me I'd have to pay extra for a larger one. Another time I couldn't redeem my free meal because one of the stamps on y my card was cut off and was "not legitimate." (The Taylorsville location redeemed it without question...) Needless to say if I'm craving Cafe Rio, I'd rather visit a different location even though this is the closest one to my house....or go to the Costa Vida that's literally right up the street.

I've never understood the phenomenon that took over Bountiful when Cafe Rio came along. I was perfectly happy with Bajio, which didn't last long after Cafe Rio's arrival. I recently tried Cafe Rio again but this time I had their pork salad. I'm converted. I have had it 3 times in the last 4 days. (I'm not crazy, I'm pregnant.) And I can't leave without an order or chips and queso. Now, on to the bad. While some may like the ambiance, I find it to be too loud and uncomfortable. But what is really awful is the service. I have never walked away with my order exactly as I asked for it. No, I don't want any salsa on my food and I don't want you scraping it off my food because you didn't take the time to listen to me before slopping it on. The staff doesn't listen and the orders get jumbled. I'm trying to figure out why they have not mastered the assembly line like so many other restaurants. And beware of extra charges of you order your good to go. They have free kids cheese quesadillas but if you get them to go, they charge you for them. (I did not see that stated anywhere on their menu.) Also, I phoned in an order once. They seem to nickle and dime you for the dumbest things. I asked for extra tortilla strips on my salad. Boom! An extra dollar. I have learned that it's best to just go and watch them make your food and hopefully there will only be one or two things wrong with it. Talking to friends about these issues, the general consensus is that there is something off about the Bountiful location. The other Cafe Rio locations seem to have it together.

I love the environment, especially in the kitchen. The food tastes fresh. The tortillas are a little thick for my liking. I get the pork salad. Very filling and I usually save it for later. They have a punch pass type card, so that's nice.

Deano G.
For some explained reason, I like this place. I think it's the fresh tortillas, or maybe the open kitchen.... But I like it. The tacos are good, the salads are killer and the rest of the menu is really good as well... Give it a try.

Is the quality dropping in recent years? Best item is the pork barbacoa salad, black beans and the creamy green dressing. Tortilla it comes in is very good. They are stingy with the pork. Maybe a victim of their own success...just feels like quality isn't as good lately as it was years ago. I used to go frequently, craving that pork salad often, then I got food poisoning one time and stayed away for a long time. Came back a couple times since but never seemed as good as it once was. Not a huge fan of the burritos--they're ok but the salad is the best thing.

Normally love me some cafe Rio. however I was up in the bountiful area with some friends and decided to dine at a familiar spot. Several bites into my burrito my friend sits down with his meal. Not even one bite in. First for full he uncovers a fly. Needless to say my friends and I did not finish our meal. The manager was less than accommodating with the evidence in front of him. Won't be back anytime soon.
It's true, the Bountiful Cafe Rio has the reputation of being the worst. But I think the management may have improved a little over the last year. There are a lot of teenage kids working here who are sloppy, lazy and give bad service. Don't place to-go orders here. They screw up 9 out of 10 of them. Cafe Rio is still a good place, but not this location. The Cafe Rio on 4th South in Salt Lake and in Provo are the best ones I've been to. Also, this is a quick, Americanized Mexican place and if you want really authentic Mexican food, go to The Red Iguana.

Lisa B.
If you are looking for authentic Mexican food, Cafe Rio is NOT the place to go. If you want fresh, high quality food this is the place. I have ordered the Pork Burrito, Pork Salad, Chile Relleno, Shrimp Taco's, Chicken Enchilada. For the burrito you are given a choice of white or whole wheat tortilla, next pick your meat they offer beef, chicken or their barbacoa pork. Next pic is the beans, black or pinto and the cilantro lime rice. The sauces they offer are mild, medium or hot. The hot is not hot at all, but is still pretty good. They pile on the sauce and I always ask for extra and haven't been charged. The lettuce is always fresh and crisp. The food is always tasty and the service line moves quickly.

The Bountiful Cafe Rio is exceptionally predictable. EVERY time I go the employees are complete assholes, with the exception of the cute lady making tortillas who was singing and the guy taking orders was yelling at her for singing.... I always order a salad and the last 3 times I have gotten 3-4 lettuce cores in it... Dirty, Huge lettuce cores. The last visit which will be my final visit EVER TO THIS LOCATION, I was told they were out of guacamole. Keep in mind it was about 2pm so there wasn't a lot of people there. I asked how long until they had more and they said about 20 minutes.. and they acted like they were appalled that I would even ask! First of all, I have made guac on many occasions... it doesn't take 20 minutes. Second, how about offering a slice of avocado instead? Nope, they offered sour cream as a substitute....? WTF? I then asked for an extra dressing. They promptly charged me a dollar for it. No discount for being out of guac or the huge cores I had to pick out! On my way out I heard a lady telling the cashier the limeade needed to be changed because it was all pulp and no juice and the cashier told her it was supposed to be that way. (there was nothing left in the container, as you know it is clear). Something needs to be done here, I thought I was the only one until I read the other reviews on here... I will pretend this one doesn't exist and treat myself when I go to town, the other Cafe Rio's are always great!

I'm not surprised to see the bad reviews for this cafe rio. I just got chips and salsa and a drink of horchata. The horchata is good but a little on the sweet side but quality unlike betos. I used to think cafe rio was far superior than costa coda but not anymore. They're both about the same except costa visa offers smaller portions which doesn't seem like a super genius idea but it's a start to getting the right portion size to a big variety of people. I senses a general malaise by the staff which tried to hurry me along.

I've gone to many cafe rios in my short life span, and I must say the service on this one is THE WORST. The people making your food are absolutely dead. No energy. Rude. Lazy. Complaining most of the time. With that frown and awfully done salad, I'm sure I'll be coming back soon. not.

At the beginning of the burrito craze, Cafe Rio seemed like the place to be. Now it's just stuck serving out over-priced slop. I've been there even enough times to make the following observations: The one choice they offer for rice is never fully cooked and always is crunchy. Their hottest sauce doesn't even make me break out in a sweat. They will nickel and dime you for any and everything, but offer it in a way that makes it seem included. Employees are super snarky and sloppy. Dealt with 4 different people and they must loathe their jobs equally. They play they worst music known to the Western world. I'm better off making burritos at home. At least the person who prepares it is nice to me and will include enchilada style at no extra cost...

PRESENTATION: Nothing to brag over, but it looks good. TASTE: I always get the same thing the barbacoa pork salad and I always have so much (for me anyways) I always tend to save some for later and have it for a late night snack. I always end up loving it every time I get it. SERVICE: Is quick and easy VALUE: I think the price on it is decent and they have specials every day.

I have been to this Cafe Rio about ten times. I have always hated it, my boyfriend is much more forgiving to bad customer service than I am. We had a routine where he would do the ordering otherwise I would get super insulted at how they do not listen to what you say (because they dont speak english) and want to leave. It was our way of compromising in a town with not so many decent food choices. Well I dared to enter the place alone recently and have decided to never go again! As a vegetarian they put their meaty gloves ( they use their hands for everything no spoons) all over everything. I politely asked to not have my tortilla grilled on their filthy meat covered grill ( you should care about this even as a non vegetarian!!) and she just kept saying "it okay!" and I disagree. It is NOT okay, it is disrespectful and impossible to order what you want in this place. I cant stand it! There's a reason we call it Cafe Riotarded. Im out.

SUGAR SOAKED BEEF .... wow, it's an entre and desert in one. Gotta love a big vat of boiling meat dripping in Coca Cola taste. This place is just what you want if looking for non authentic mexican or can't decide between a snickers bar or burrito for dinner. The sweetness is same. Yes, they do fry up a tortilla while you wait then serve you in a TIN FOIL DINNER tray like you're some idiot that can't handle a plate. I am so sick and tired of Utah thinking sugar = flavor. This is not real mexican food people. Wake up Utah and with eating this inedible garbage masked by sugar. If you're an owner reading this.... How about some real items like Chile Colorado, a good selection of tacos, dump the sugar! And serve food on a plate with real silverware please. Quit throwing away tons and tons of plasticware and tinfoilware. Plates made of ceramic were practically invented in Mexico.

Disgusting & horrible service. The men in line making our food were rude & acted like we were an inconvenience when ordering. When we got home to eat we found a fly in our salad. We called to talk to the manager to ask for a refund and he said he couldn't...after a few arguments he refunded only the salad that had the fly instead of the while order. What awful customer service!!! Will never eat there again.

My family and I absolutely love Cafe Rio. We go here at least twice a month, I love the pork burrito, and yes its cooked in coca cola. Very tasty! They put everything together right in front of you, and it always tastes fresh to me. My mom and girlfriend love the huge salads with shredded lettuce and crunchy chips in it, im just not a salad guy. Use the punch cards, when you get a free meal (after you buy 10, get one free) the entire staff yells "FREE MEAL"!!! Gotta love it. Also you can call in and order your food for pickup, this is very handy during lunch time when its super busy. Been going here since it opened, I wont be stopping anytime soon.

Cafe Rio is a reliable source of delicious Mexican food. If you eat here a ton, everything can start tasting the same, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I'm a big fan of the chicken tacos. They're probably the best I've ever had and continue to be the only thing I ever get.

I love the food at the Rio, but there is one guy at this particular location that I really don't care for. He is always a stiff, especially when I ask for extra dressing. If not for that loser, I would give it a 5 star!

Cafe Rio is a staple in my lunch diet. I eat at this location once a week minimum. Their food is fresh, fast, and well prepared. I recommend it to anyone looking for a great Mexican meal.

I heard raves about Cafe Rio all the way back in California, and I am sorry, I just don't see what all the fuss is about. It was incredibly loud when I was there and the line cooks couldn't hear my order very well. I ended up with the enchilada sauce on my burrito which was pretty bad in itself. On top of that, the food was just bland. I have yet to find a Mexican place in Utah that I can compare with what I would get back in San Diego. I think I am just going to resign myself to the fact that it will probably never happen.

I don't love this place as much as my brother and his friends. The food is fresh and the atmosphere is great. It's just like the 3 star rating says. A-OK. Not my favorite. I think it's the chicken. I love chicken enchiladas and quesadillas, but the chicken here is not the best. My brother who loves it loves the sweet pork, which I've never liked anywhere. So if you like sweet pork.. i bet you'll love Cafe Rio.

I love Café Rio, it's one of my favorite go to places to eat. However this location is just okay. The staff is pretty unenergized and unenthusiastic, and I got a chicken salad and it didn't taste nearly as good as what I am used to from Café Rio.

Service was awful! We are Cafe Rio regulars and will never go back to the Bountiful location.
