Sometimes words can hurt and reviews can too. The owner of a taste of home is a wonderful and kind lady named Kathy. She is a friend of my late mother Mary and always keeps us in her thoughts and prayers. If you want a place where the people are down home and kind and give you great service in a cute, quant ,little sit down place then this is the place for you. Its a beautiful tea room where I had many great memories with my mom. Thank you Kathy for making that happen. Kathy all my prayers are with you and your business.

I very much enjoyed this restaurant! Was greeted with a smile upon arrival, seated in the cute dining room (nicely decorated) and ordered the fried pickle appetizer. Went with a friend and both of our sandwiches were so fresh tasting and really delicious! I recommend ordering the chips as well, they are AMAZING! The fried pickles were really thickly sliced which made for a better taste (not the tiny ones your normally get). I would definitely recommend this place!

I've been here twice which was two times too many. The breakfast was sub-par and the dinner tasteless. The ambiance is delightful but the service is slow and the staff is clueless. Every question we had was met with empty stares and a retreat to the back to find answers. I've had worse but still not worth the time or money.

What a pleasant surprise! We were driving around Wylie looking for a place to eat when we diverted to their quaint "downtown". At the end of the street, there it was...this beautiful "old" house that is a restaurant. We parked in front of it and I checked out their website from my smartphone. The menu looked very good, so we decided to give it a try. Once inside we were warmly greeted and escorted to our table in what used to be the living room. We love the decor! Loved the ambiance music. Our waitress showed up quickly and took great care of us throughout the experience. We try to order the chicken fried steak whenever we eat at a new place... if they've got 'em. It's a good indicator for us if the rest of their food is any good. Weird huh? But it works for us. "Taste of Home" does have good chicken fried steak along with the mashed potatoes and green beans and dinner rolls. We were not disappointed. We had bread pudding for dessert which is very good. It's not an "eat and run" kinda place, rather plan on staying at least an hour to fully enjoy the food and atmosphere. Overall, we love this place and will eat there every time we come to Wylie from Plano.

This is definitely an bright spot in the often bleak dining landscape in Wylie/Murphy area. I greatly enjoy the atmosphere, friendly service, and affordable prices. The food is good and consistent. The service is sometimes spotty when it comes to attentiveness, but this is not Craft or III Forks where I would expect something close to perfection. This is homey, honest, solidly good place to go!

Service is horrible. The people sitting across from us got there the same time, ordered at the same time, yet they were well into their meal before we even got our drinks. Fresh country cooking?? I think not. I can almost guarantee everything on my plate was frozen... Vegetables were soggy and flavorless, meat was overcooked and dry. It says a lot about a restaurant when the plates are picked up after everyone is done and it looks like the food has barely been touched on all of the plates.

Charmingly restored Victorian house with intimate seating and an eclectic menu ranging from ribs to crab stuffed flounder. Their sandwiches and salads are fantastic. Serving sizes are more than ample, but not overdone. Sweet potato fries, fried pickles and cold sweet tea...this place is old style Texas.

Quaint old home in Wylie. Decor is pretty much as previous reviews stated. Our server was awesome. I wish the same was true of the meal. I would, sadly, have to say this is close to the worst food I have ever eaten. The rolls were delivered to our table piping hot. Our mouths watered in anticipation but what awaited us was a dry, freezer burned mess. Not sure if they bake the rolls ahead of time and freeze them or froze the raw dough then baked them but whatever it is was not pleasant. Our entrees weren't any better. I had the grilled meat loaf that the menu stated came with brown gravy. It arrived drowning in a gelatinous sauce that was disturbingly beige and obviously from a mix. The meat was also beige with the texture of a dense pate'. The menu described it as "Not your Mom's meat loaf" and for that I'm thankful. The mashed potatoes were instant potato flakes and completely void of seasoning (not that seasoning would have helped) In my opinion, instant potatoes in a restaurant should be outlawed and even more so when I'm paying $11.00 a plate. The pinto beans were straight from the can. My friend had chicken fried steak that was covered in cream gravy (again from a mix) and had the strangest "wang" to it. Aside from the odd after taste of the chicken fried steak, there was absolutely no seasoning to anything that we ordered. Steak fries were just okay. The one bright spot were the hush puppies that were hot and buttery. Our tab came to just shy of $30.00. Hard to swallow. I'm sure the owners are lovely people and the wait staff we encountered were kind and helpful. But good people doesn't equal good food. What a stinker.

This place has the potential to but good but no matter what it seems to fall short of that. Service is fair to poor, they love to forget about you. Even the owners forget about you. The food used to be good but I went for the breakfast this time and the eggs were undercooked and the hashbrowns were barely cooked. The gentlemen next to me was upset cause he asked for gravy to be on the side and they just dumped it all over the meat anyway and the waitress just basically said eat it. After his complaint to the owner she then decided to get another, Also, the run out of such petty things too - tabasco sauce was the one they were out of yesterday.

Looking for some good home cooking? This place has it. We usually come here for breakfast, they stop serving at 11am, but have come for lunch before as well. For breakfast I don't even look at the menu, I order the quiche of the day. Why yes, I did say of the day. A different home made quiche is made and baked daily. I'm happy when its spinach and bacon but I'll happily eat any of them. I've had non quiche dishes for when they run out, a sad day, and they also were quite good. The biscuits are big and delicious and the sausage gravy is delicious. Service is friendly and attentive and its currently my favorite wylie breakfast stop for american breakfast.

My wife's birthday breakfast experience...Ordered coffee and creamer and got no cream until the second round of coffee (first round of coffee was cold). Our order: Chicken fried steak and eggs with breakfast potatoes, quiche, French toast with side of bacon and blackberries on the side and eggs Florentine with side of bacon. After ordering the waitress came back and said they were out of quiche. Replaced that order with eggs over medium, toast and a side of fruit. When the order finally arrived chicken fried was tiny and tough, potatoes had no onion or green peppers and were also hard. The over medium eggs came with biscuit instead of toast and no fruit. My daughter got a pancake instead of French toast and no bacon. The eggs Florentine did not come out at all. While 2 out of the four of us were eating. my wife's eggs Florentine finally arrived but still no bacon. The poached eggs were hard boiled eggs and barely any spinach was present. When my daughter's French toast finally arrived it had bacon on the side. My wife asked yet again for her bacon and the server stated that there were two orders of bacon (3 pieces) put on the plate with the French toast. After that statement about the bacon, my wife sent her breakfast back untouched and we asked for the check. The server stated she discounted my wife's breakfast at which time my wife requested that her breakfast and bacon be taken off the check all together. They comped the majority of the meal but it was far too late!!! Atmosphere was great. Food was mediocre at best, portions were far too small for the $$$. Worst service on the planet. The breaking point was when the server lied about the two sides of bacon (3 pieces) supposedly on my daughter's plate. We will NEVER be going back. Most definitely not worth the gas spent getting there!

They have the best chicken fried chicken! Every time I go in there I can never decide what to order. The servers are friendly and try hard to make your dining experience a pleasant one. The restaurant is in a renovated house that was built in 1901. Love the atmosphere and the owners are awesome! Always greeted with a smile! If the servers are busy the hostess will step in and help take drink orders. Very friendly, family type place. Oh yea, the pancakes are to die for!

Today was my first visit. The restaurant is located in a nicely restored home on Bullard, the main street in Wylie,TX. It's a very popular place because the food is cooked on site, not out of a can, or frozen, and is very tasty. On this day the service was very slow due to a new computer system. Wait staff and management was still learning. I ordered the quiche of the day which came with small fruit cup and a nice fresh salad. One friend ordered Turkey Panini with nice sweet potato fries, and the other friend ordered a bowl of Soup of the Day, Cheddar. We were all three happy with our food. We will definitely go back.

The homemade chips are delicious! There is a variety of home cooked foods, and they deliver! The enviornment is very homey, and the price is right. The sweet tea is made southern style!

This place is a converted victorian style house with a wrap-arond porch, and is very inviting to look at. You go in and you can see and smell the history of this place. We were seated and our drink order was taken promptly. The rolls were a huge disappointment, as they were cold and had very little flavor if any. That, along with the rock-hard butter it was a huge turn off. They should serve warm fresh bread, with perhaps a cornbread option as well, which one might expect from a place such as this. On to dinner--I ordered the roast turkey. It was very good, very moist, served with a really good cornbread dressing. My date ordered the Tilapia which was also very moist and flavorful. Their Firehouse Pasta--served as either an entree or a side--was not that great, with more heat than actaul flavor. They warn you of the heat aspect of this item, but I wouldn't mind it as much if had more actual flavor instead of just heat. For dessert, we ordered the Pecan pie cobbler. It was pretty good, but not much different than warm pecan pie. Had better, had worse. I think next time I'll try the bread pudding. NEXT TIME: They also have St Louis style ribs, which on wednesdays are all you can eat. Here is where I got really turned off to this place and might keep me from coming back. I love ribs, and was really looking forward to trying them, but I was told if you get the all you can eat, you can only get fries and cole slaw as your sides, and they absolutely REFUSE to substitutue either of them for you. I HATE cole slaw and I stay away from fries becuase they are so bad for you, and I could not understand why a simple substitution could not be made for some other side vegetables. Seriously folks, why the hell could this not be done for anything other than making a customer happy, and also becuase you can do it with any other item on the menu? If they are going to be so adamant about such minutia, then it should be noted on the menu so such a confrontation will not arise over something so simple and mundane as what sides come with an entree. You would think I was asking them to change a law or something! I asked the waitress on 3 seperate occaisions why this was such a big deal and she just hem-hawed around and said "that's just how it comes" without any kind of logical answer, so I grudgingly ordered the chicken fried chicken just to get the sides I wanted, which were mashed potatoes and corn. And here comes another turn off--they don't put gravy and the mashed potatoes! I mean SERIOUSLY folks? Do I really have to ask for extra gravy for my potatoes? Funny how the Ballard Street Cafe (which is about 100 feet down the sidewalk from this place) never gave me any such grief. So hmmmmm..........wonder which place I'll go to next time?

I absolutely love this place! We have received excellent service and food every time. Large portions and great quality. I love the old home the restaurant is in, kinda makes you feel like you have stepped back in time. After your meal, sit on the large front porch for a while listening to the different wind chimes as the breeze blows.

Meatloaf entree was ok. Nothing special. Not bad. Not great. Mostly like baked ground beef. No seasonings. Gravy didn't taste home made. And tomato sauce was like it was poured from a can. Grilled chicken salad was delicious.

I am a bit late on writing this review, but I had to think of how to approach it in my review. I would like to give the restaurant more stars, but I am unable to. A few years ago when I still lived in the area, I used to come here often. I loved the chicken salad sandwich and the potato soup. I would purchase the chicken salad by the pint. Now that I moved back, I had to come back here for their delicious chicken salad sandwich and potato soup, but sadly I was disappointed. The sandwich was just bland with not much flavor and the soup was a bland pureed baby food. I think a good way to improve it the soup is to actually add salt, pepper and to not make it pureed. Leave some good chunks of potato. Give it a little texture and depth. I came back a few times and I decided to try a few new things. I got the chicken panini. The panini wasn't bad, but it wasn't the best either. The chicken was a good size and cooked well, but the rest of it was not panini worthy. The menu said it that the dressing was a basil mayo (Mmmm), but it was just plain mayo. Nice juicy tomatoes, but that was it. I felt that it could of used some greens like spinach. The bread wasn't even done panini style, it was just toasted. How disappointing. I ate it with the sweet potato fries which were delicious. The waitress's were nice and friendly, but they were very slow. It took forever to get a refill of water. She even came to the table and filled up everyone's teas, then she went to grab the water and just walked right by my table and refilled someone else's water. I gave it a little bit more time then went ahead and just gave up trying to get a refill, paid the bill and left. I really do want to enjoy this place like I used to back in the day, but I don't know if I can come back here. Improvements definitely need to happen.

Went there today for lunch with family, and friends, and I must say more than likely we will not be returning. We drove 45 minutes to get there, which everyone in my party felt was a waste of time. Even though our server was great and she was very attentive to us, the food was subpar. The tea was strange, the house rolls were lukewarm at best and not soft. I had the salad trio, which included tuna salad, egg salad and fruit salad. The tuna was dry and tasteless not unlike the other salads on my plate, and for the price that we had to pay, for the small amount of food that we received it was not a value. We would have been better off stopping at the local hospital cafeteria for lunch today.

Very Quaint feeling in this restaurant . It's been around for 13 years and in this location for 6 (that's what our server told us). Fresh flowers on the table. Nice touch. Music is awesome. Ordered Meatloaf with Garlic Mash and Green Beans. Meatloaf is suppose to be grilled, but the outside is burnt. Green Beans cold-mashed potatoes yummy. Bread delicious. Chicken Fried Steak-ok. The fryer oil is fishy and you can taste and smell it. Meat wasn't seasoned before it was battered. Dads pecan pie is yummy...good call on this one. I was hoping this was our new favorite restaurant-bummer night. Food was really mediocre and we sent back at least half of our dinner on our plates. When the server came by to ask about desert he left all our dirty plates on our table. We stacked them up and then he dropped off desert and still left the dirty dinner plates. He came back to see how we were doing and left again with no plates. When he came to pick up our desert plate he then took all the dishes. The Hostess walked through the dinning room talking on her cell phone doing side work so she could get home by 8:15-8:30. That's what she said. Disappointing night.

I would love to give them 5 stars...but lousy inattentive service is really a pet peeve of mine. Food-great quality, made from scratch, tad overpriced. Pretty decent portions. Price was a little exorbitant. I tried the "country Benedict" which is an open face sausage & egg biscuit, covered in gravy, with a side of hash browns. It was delicious but $9.95 is steep for an open faced sausage biscuit...nothing super special to warrant the price. Atmosphere-the signage says "quaint country kitchen" or something like that. It sums it up. It was a great departure from other breakfast joints. Overall-I would come back, but I would need better service. I had to stop other servers to get 1 single refill. And our waitress visited us once in a 45 minute breakfast. The food is what I gave 4 stars...everything else was so-so which brought it down to 3.

Once again you Yelpers have let us down! Too many of you do not know what good food is. Notice someone saying this place amazed her. Yeah, it amazed us too! Taste of Home? My Mother would have killed herself before serving food like this. Ordered the chopped steak with gravy. Something wrong with the meat - like it had been sitting around and heated up. Gravy was absolutely tasteless - brown paste. Supposed pinto beans were NOT pinto beans - some sort of weak ranch beams. Come to think of it, if my Mom had been there she would killed the cook. If you are serving up southern home meals and can't make decent pinto beans, something is really, really wrong. Garlic mashed potatoes were also bland. Wife tried the egg salad sandwich. Her comment - "Who doesn't know how to make an egg salad sandwich?" We sampled a couple of bites and asked for the check. Service was only so-so and slow. Food that was supposed to be hot was barely warm. Terrible crime that they have such a nice place and location but serve swill. The lack of competition in the area will probably, regretfully, let them survive. But not on my dollar. Took a long last look around - will not be back.

i was very disappointed with this restaurant. The house is darling, the decor charming. I had high hopes. But everything we ordered was blah at best. The first thing I had was soup of the day called spicy queso. Wrong. It should have been called cheesy chili, and I would not have ordered it. Because I don't like chili. It was basically a spicy chili with beans, and some kind of cheese sauce melted into it. Yuck! The next thing we got was the salad trio. My friend and I Both got the green salad. This could have been really good. The greens were fresh and crisp. But the blue cheese dressing was nothing more than white water. Literally. It was horrible, ruined the salad.my friend also got the pasta salad, that we decided must have completely forgot to put dressing on it. It was completely dry pasta. No seasonings, nothing. She asked for some dressing, and it was brought out. Then it was pretty good. We both got the chicken salad, and again, I think they forgot to put any dressing on it. Completely dry, no flavor at all. It had a few grapes in it, and one or two small pieces if walnut. I asked for some ranch dressing and that helped a little. But not much, because the ranch was also watered down and not very flavorful. My third choice was the broccoli salad. Best I can say, is it was blah and bland. Whoever is the chef there is afraid of seasonings. Not sure we'll go back, if they can't even make decent cold salads. On, yea, tea was good.

To the point; wonderful food, very slow service. I've been here a half-dozen times over the years. Every time I come away with the same take, great food, but man, it takes a long time to get it. Their menu is full of southern comfort foods and healthier options. Many with a slight twist than what's expected. Great appetizers, mains, sides and desserts. The only downside, which is significant in my opinion, is that you'll need to wait. Maybe 1-1.5 hours after you order. This last time was 1.5 hours. If you and your stomach are not in a rush, than this place is great.

Easily rank this amongst my favorite eateries. Taste of Home is a testament and affirmation that minimalism and simplicity of flavors, quality, and freshness will always prevail in the end over complicated presentations and flavors. The secret is that the ingredients are seemingly the best around, and will have you scratching your head asking yourself HOW can something so simple, be so amazingly satisfying and filling? so many tried and true and tried favorites. everything on the menu is so good, because we have yet to eat anything that is lower than a 9 out of 10. I love knowing I'm paying for high quality ingredients to the point where we always leave the place with a euphoric 'high' of happiness and satisfaction. It's one of those places where you walk out stuffed with a smile, and just let out a big "SIGHHHHHHH!" Taste of Home is not over priced, but rather "expensive;" you surely get every drop of value out of every squeeze, out of every dollar you give this wonderful establishment -- trust me. Its not much more than chills or comparable. Do yourself a favor and get breakfast at Taste of home -- It will completely redefine and flip upside-down what you think "breakfast" really is and should be. Definitely a fan here! Based on a local tip, I would've never found this spot as it's so discreetly hidden, like a lot of gems in this city are. Within nanoseconds of the first bite, I could instantly tell the texture of all the food was fresh and homemade, and I'm willing to bet was most likely made and prepared that same day, perhaps even hours before I walked in. It was soft, and had a great texture. Even with the simplest of French toast, is so yummy others French toast will never compare. the beef stew was clearly homemade as well. It's not bio-genetic engineering here people -- fresh is always better; simple as that. As far as the restaurant, there's ample seating with two dining areas, and the place is kept exceptionally clean for your standard mom and pop. As far as authenticity overall, there's no doubt about it that all there food is made in a scratch kitchen. I would definitely recommend Taste of Home to anyone with a hankering for fresh authentic food. Super solid 5 rating. Go support them!

Excellent food and service. It's great to see the same people each time you come and have them remember you and your family and what you drink! We even order food here to be delivered to our office.

We were house hunting in the area and used Yelp for find a breakfast restaurant. The name of this place is perfect. They make you feel like you are home. Very nice people make and serve very good food. Never an empty coffee cup. Nothing fancy, just a nice place to relax and share a good meal. If you are local, you already know about this place. If you are a visitor, like we were, I think you will be happy you stopped here.

Great Food! Friendly Staff! Good Location! Tend to be slow on refilling the drinks. Like 10 minutes from empty glass to refill. This seems to be an on going issue with them too. They are worth the visit but when you order your drinks tell them to go ahead and bring out the 2nd glass.

Have been there for all 3 meals a few different times. The food is delicious, but lose one point because it isn't very appetizing looking when it comes out. Their presentation could use a bit of work. But it tastes great. Really friendly waitresses and a nice "southern/country" feel to it. Big menu. Some of their tables are awfully small for seating 4 people, and because of the nature of an old building, sometimes the tables wobble (just ask for a leveler, they use them but sometimes they get pushed out), so I'd say their seating could use a little bit of work. Overall my go-to when I need a sit-down meal for a reasonable price in Wylie! Everyone we have taken has raved about the taste of the food. Good home cooking.

I love this place!!! I have never had a bad experience here, the food is always perfect even if you make adjustments. The servers are very nice and they are the same servers all the time so they must be good to their employees. I hate turn over at a restaurant because the new servers never know anything. This is mine and my daughters favorite place for any meal.

You don't put caramel on bread pudding. Egg sandwich has no taste. Plus, the panini was very bland. The gentleman sitting next to me didn't touch his chicken fried steak.

Taste of Home never ceases to amaze me. Kathy was generous enough to discount a meal for our first benefit at Wylie Social Dance Center and it couldn't have been more perfect. The Grilled Chicken Fettuccine was exceptional and a real crowd-pleaser. The staff was particularly accommodating in making sure that every associated component was clearly marked. They even made every effort possible to help us get it all out to the car and make sure it was all secure for transport. Extraordinary food and service. The complete package, here in Wylie. Much thanks and kudos Taste of Home! Sincerely, Peggy Newsom - Owner Wylie Social Dance Center

Located in the heart of the historic downtown Wylie. It's literally in a old fashioned house, which helps with the country home feel. The food is hand made and therefore takes a little while to come out. I like my toast, pancakes, etc nice and toasty. They make them fluffy like they are scared to burn anything. Food is good but it lacks a unique taste to go with the unique look and feel of the place.

Friendly, cozy, casual, and not very level in places, one of my favorite places to eat breakfast for a late lunch, and always get the wedding cake w/the two delicious chocolate covered strawberries to live happily ever after. My favorite is the breakfast meat quiche. I also like the variety in the Deluxe breakfast. Each category was well prepared and arrived hot. All of the food I've seen looks yummy and happy. And some nice antique pieces, too. This is a yummy, happy place.

We went to this restaurant for lunch today. I had been years ago but honestly forgot about it (because I am forgetful, not due to the restaurant). I wanted to leave a review this time because I am so pleased with the quality of the food and the service. The food is simple, but in that home cooked, granny's recipe kind of way. It's nostalgic and indulging. Also, the rolls are delicious. Do not decline the rolls. In fact, get extras.

Love their lunch delivery service! Not to mention their award winning chicken salad. Once your order it the only way to finish you meal is with their wedding cake slice! The food and service are top notch and the quality is unbeatable. With a down home atmosphere of downtown Wylie this is a place is centered in an area that is conducive to walking and shopping.

Down home food with no flavor. Baked potato soup was just puréed potato, reminded me of baby food. How does a chicken breast get messed up? I'm not sure but you could ask the cook at Taste of Home. Chop steak lived up to name as you had to chop at it to cut a piece off of it since it wasn't tender at all. Garlic mashed potatoes should have some kind of flavor to it right? Best part of my meal... My Dr. Pepper, just what the doctor ordered.

You have to have the eggs Benedict I love heading here for breakfast and that is what I order every time! The locals all go here and my neighbors and I all chat about the cozy atmosphere and friendly faces. You feel like your at home having breakfast with your own family.

LOVE to sit down at eat at Taste of Home. It's such a great atmosphere and the food is great. When my daughter is in town, we always stop by at least once. Most awesome spinach salmon salad....,,, searching for healthy places to eat sometimes is a chore ...I had noticed that the Taste of Home has won a healthy Restaurant awards for multiple years in Wylie so i decided to dine and see how healthy this place is... i found that there is mostly comfort food on the menu and somewhat large servings i however discovered the salad menu and i am convinced that this may be the reason people have decided to give a thumbs up to taste of home in regards to healthy meals. I as one would encourage the Taste of Home to take the healthy foods to the next level ... as if they were in the city of Dallas they I feel would not be one of the best places to go to find healthy foods I however enjoyed my visit very much the food was great and the meal very healthy and the service was friendly and outstanding . One Thing that was not to my liking was that on the tables there is a sheet of plexiglass over the tablecloth i think that should go as it kind of slides around and it is not something i would expect to see in a public or private place of eating ''

i took my mother here this past weekend for her 78th birthday. We walked in and fell in love with the beauty of this Victorian home and spoke about how it must have been to leave in such a beauty. We were immediately met with a very nice hostess who sat us. Our waitress Kira was very sweet and attentive. Out food was divine. Grilled onion and swiss quiche, and the butterflied tomato w/ chicken salad. This is such a beautiful place, great atmosphere, wonderful food, great wait staff. We will be back.

My sister brought me here 6 years ago. Always seem to go here for breakfast, when staying with family for the holiday. Breakfast/brunch are big portions. No frills really good home style cooking. Love the fact that restaurant used to be a house about 5 minutes or less walk from the old town center of Wylie.

One of my favorite spots to eat! Chicken salad sandwich with sweet potato fries is the best! Unless you are stopping by for breakfast then it is their quiches! Fabulous!

Cute old place. Nice porch outside, so I had high expectations about the food. Has a great southern look. The people at the reception area were very nice. Very disappointed about the food. I ordered to start a cup of coffe and the waitress brings me the coffe on big clear mug. The "Coffee" Literally looked like ice tea. Extremely clear color. I asked the waitress why was the coffe was so weak.. she didn't respond. . just smiled w her toothless smile (She had two teeth in the front only). I ordered another coffee and it came the same way. So I drank OJ instead and got a cup of coffe from Mac Donald s on way home. Then the food, which took a long time. The place was NOT crazy busy, so I don't know why scrambled eggs and bacon took so long. Eggs were pretty bland, bacon greasy. The fruit that came was so not fresh, definitely refrigerated from a while. Tasted terrible, we couldn't eat it. So $27+ for scrambled eggs and omelet and 2 orange juices for two was a little steep for me. They did charge for one the coffees out of the 2 sent back. Not worthy at all. I'll stick w the Uptown brunches.

Love the food and love the staff, very friendly and I've never had a bad meal! Whether it's dinner during the week or brunch on Sunday after church you will always have yourself a good home cooked meal here, worth every penny!

I personally love places like this. The house is absolutely adorable and full of character. I loved everything about it. The service and food were great. I had the pancakes which were fluffy and full of flavor. We were very pleased with the whole experience and will definitely be back when in town.

I LOVE this place. Quaint, yummy, and great food and service. I LOVE everything I've had here, my favorite is the Chicken Panini. I really like the baked potato soup but it lacks salt, but that's an easy fix. Great place to meets friends for lunch.

This morning was our second trip to Taste of Home. We went last year and were rather underwhelmed by the food and appalled by the poor service. So a year later we decided to give it another go, we prefer to support local Wylie businesses rather than the large chains that are moving in. Once again we were greeted by a surly reception desk employee who treated us as the nuisances that were interrupting her morning cup of coffee and riving bit of gossip with her fellow servers rather than welcome customers. We were seated and a server took our order, she wasn't bad per say, but when watching the wait staff greet and interact with 'regulars' the difference in serving was staggering. No friendly 'good morning' for us, just a 'what do you want to drink'. No telling us of the specials or attempts at polite chatter, just scribbling our order and hurrying off. We watched another table arrive and wait 10 minutes before one of the servers realized no one had even gotten them a drink. They didn't get a 'so sorry for the wait' just took their orders and left, guess they weren't regulars either. Overall poor service and average food will keep us from coming back. IHOP or Waffle House will get you better food and much better service even if you do have to make the drive to Plano.

This was the first time I have had ordered from this restaurant. I called in for delivery, the lady that answered the phone was super sweet. I had the catfish plate with grilled veggies, fried okra and rolls - I am sad to say it was just ok, nothing really special. I was expecting filets but was like nuggets and like a "fluffy" taste to them like it was basa instead of catfish? I am not sure. I just prefer filets. The salad sample was just ok, as well. I saw that they were known for the chicken salad so was really looking forward to trying but, the chicken was a bite dry to me. Others were just ok. But that slice of Wedding Cake!!! OMG, it was so nice and soft with that real buttercream icing and 2 chocolate dipped strawberry's. It was so good I couldn't wait and take a pic before I ate it ALL!!!

Since moving to Wylie, we have eaten here several times. Restaurant is in an old home on the main drag and the decor amplifies the historic feel. Large rolls are excellent. Daily quiche is also unique. Overall, I rate food as a C+. Some dishes better than others. Iced tea is frequently watered down with zero flavor.

Well I just found my new breakfast place. The fluffiest pancakes you can eat, I barely got they half of these, the cheapest sides of bacon you will buy in any place (my daughter likes that) and all in the comfort of a home. Yes it literally a home. Service was excellent, I dare you to have an empty cup of coffee, it will never happen they refill quicker thank your eyes blink. Try this place, you won't regret it.

Tried Taste of Home for the first time for a family birthday dinner, and we were not disappointed! Most of our table ordered salads along with the grilled pork chops, while the child ordered spaghetti. Everyone cleaned their plate. For dessert we had the wedding cake - it was amazing! Our waiter, Jacob, was helpful and friendly. We can't wait to visit for breakfast!

We dropped in for breakfast and both dishes were delicious. The decor is very cute and very home-ish. It really feels like you're in grandmas house here. If I'm in this area again I would love to come back.

So cozy & elegant. Food is good quality, reasonably priced. Burger was to die for. Weak coffee, good service. Go for brunch!

This place could get 4 stars if the staff had any semblance of an idea about customer service. They act like you are lucky to be eating there. They don't understand that the customer is always right, and heaven forbid you want to substitute anything. Service is often very slow and coffee is often Luke warm. I think this place stays busy because of the charm of the house. They used to have excellent food till their cook died, then it turned south. The quiche is excellent but the staff is so rude and oblivious to customer service or how to run a restaurant that I don't think I will be making it my first choice. Example: A few weeks ago, we went there, and they had changed their menu layout. There was a typo in the menu - they had a period instead of a comma in between what was included in a dish. Instead of just saying 'we'll give you the toast, no worries, it's our bad since its not clear on the menu', the hostess came over and very loudly said 'it's a comma NOT a period!'. So they said they'd have to charge us for the toast. It's toast people, I mean really??? Fix the font on your menu if you can't tell, am i right? And why did they feel the need to say it so loud so that everyone else could hear? So cluess.....not to mention that they were the ones who looked like weirdos arguing loudly over periods, commas and toast!

The perfect dining spot when you are craving a delicious home cooked meal!! Everyone treats you like family and goes out of their way to take care of you. Everything we've tried... from soups to salads, main dishes to desserts has all been delicious and fresh from the kitchen. It feels like Mama made it! Love this place!

Not sure why this place has 4 stars. Service was agonizingly slow, but only our server. Other servers seemed to be servicing their tables normally. The food, ah the food. Country Eggs Benedict was horrific. The sausage gravy was gelatinous, the eggs overdone. The breakfast potatoes were rock hard, the peppers and onions virtually nonexistent. The wife got the southwest omelet, which was cold, with the cheese melted and then cooled to a greasy hard substance. Probably a blessing in disguise that the pico de gallo advertised on the menu didn't make it into the omelet. It took our server 15 minutes to come back for the bill after dropping it off, and another ten to bring back the change. Won't be back. Ever.

If there's one thing I appreciate about the food industry, it's local little places where I can get away from corporate eating at large and experience tastes and smells that are impossible to achieve on the assembly-line of mass food production. Taste of Home is definitely one of my favorite places to do exactly that. This restaurant is nestled in the north end of downtown Wylie in a little Victorian house. The ambiance created by the friendly small-town service and the decor is quaint, homey, and comfortable. Every time I've come here, despite the place being busy or slow, I've received sociable service as if I were a regular or a close friend. It's a nice change to "order number forty-three!!" blared over a PA system. The menu sports both unique county creations as well as everyone's favorite comfort food, from ribs and chicken fried steak to the quiche of the day and broccoli bacon walnut salad. I've never been for breakfast (which I hear is great), but their lunch and dinner options are divine. I have yet to have a meal here that I didn't enjoy or found scrumptious, and I always leave happy and perfectly filled. My favorite dishes include the Firehouse Pasta, chicken salad sandwich, and the previously mentioned Brocolli Walnut Bacon salad. What I really love about this place is that the food truly embodies the home-cooked taste. Biting into anything, I can taste how it's cooked in a kitchen not unlike my own (only by a chef with serious skill) and acquired in a similar way (rather than how big corporate restaurants ship or prepare their food). It might just be me and my wild enthusiasm, but I not only can taste the quality of the ingredients but the small-town quality of the service. I really like that. Despite my minor qualms with the price range of this restaurant (I can't eat here on a regular basis financially, but I am much, much poorer than the average person (and an admitted cheapskate)), I rate it five stars because I've never been disappointed. Most of all, I have always left this restaurant not only satisfied with my experience but outright enthusiastic. And considering any kind of service is all about satisfaction, I believe that to be pretty impressive.

This is yet another establishment that Yelp has brought me to because of the reviews, and I was not disappointed. The man and I had a craving for something totally different and I figured a revamped house turned into a homey restaurant could cure our withering, empty stomachs. Upon walking in I couldn't help but notice the cutesy decor. It fits perfectly in downtown Wylie with touches that your mom would make in your own home. But the food needed to speak for itself. I ordered the chicken fried steak because well, if that's not good there's something seriously wrong. It came to the table piping hot with mashed potatoes. The chicken fried steak was flavorful and tasted as if it had been prepared in a cast iron skillet. DELISH. The mashed potatoes however lacked any flavor and were cold. The main dish made up for this fact. The man ordered the bottomless spaghetti. He loved it so much he got another bowl. I must add I was taking bites from his plate because the sauce was so flavorful and I needed some sustenance because the taters were cold. It was a good first impression with a few missteps in the food. We returned this past weekend and the food was way under par. Overcooked patty melt with burnt bread. Even colder and more tasteless potatoes as well. I began to wonder if maybe we caught them on a bad day or with a different cook. We left a bit unsatisfied and confused because it was so varied from the last experience. Overall, this is a cute joint. The large menu contains salads, sandwiches, and really good home cooking selections. I think the consistency needs to be worked on however. We will more than likely return to be honest. I don't want to give up on this place yet. It's just too damn adorable. (And I want to try their breakfast offerings!)

Good down home style food and some amazing iced tea. I don't know what they do to it but it is delicious. They serve seriously good comfort food. They're set up in an old house right on Main street in downtown Wylie. Great place to be serving this comfort food.

Not bad but not great. The omelet and potatoes were a bit overlooked. We'll try them again in the hopes it was just a bad day.

I enjoy coming here time and time again. The owners are gracious host/hostess and greets us everytime. The food is amazing! Their pancakes are some of the yummiest I've ever had. Try it if you are ever in downtown Wylie, next time!

I am not going to say I am going to give them rave reviews. There are a few things that need to be touched up. But then again, that is just my opinion. This is a 1901 house with that type of atmosphere, if you like the feel of a tea room and Victorian taste this is a nice place to sit and enjoy a nice meal. This is not the kind of place to you to expect overly healthy or organic meal. Just good food. We were seated promptly and very courteously. Our waitress was not informed that we were assigned to her and it took a while to get our order place. The person who sat us at least got us drinks. They brought out rolls with butter, they were nice with a slight sweet taste. August (2010) is "All you can eat ribs" for 12.00, with steak potatoes and a dap of coleslaw. My husband thought they were great and the spicy bbq sauce that came with them was really tasty. I did not eat the ribs, but my husband was licking his fingers. Not sure if that was because of the sauce or ribs (which are pork) I got the Crab Louie, I suggest you give it a pass. The salad is good, the, fruit awesome, the raspberry vinaigrette great with a slight bite, Now I have to admit I usually go easy on the dressing, but I ate all this stuff. Now for the Crab salad part. Imitation crab with way too mayo to try and drown the imitation part, needs work, lots of work. For dessert I got the Pecan Pie Cobbler, get this only if you like pecans, because they are a plenty. They serve it hot with ice cream, definitely worth the calories. Besides a slight slowness in the service and a lack of keeping the tea and water glasses full, for a place that had few patrons. If you are wanting to enjoy a nice meal and want to spend some time talking with family and friends. It is worth the trip. I am sure I will go again, maybe this month if just for the ribs.

This is one of our favorites for breakfast. The quaint turn-of-the-century home is warm and welcoming and the staff are so kind and attentive. I love their french toast, made with three slices of homemade Challah bread topped with warm blackberries, raspberries & blueberries with sausage. The maple syrup and berries on top this wonderful bread is just yummie. The only disappointment is the coffee... it is served in a ceramic-type pot on the table and gets cold very quickly. I only like coffee when it's steaming hot and fresh, so this method needs improvement. I like the idea of the pot on the table, but they need to purchase metal, thermos-style containers like they use at I Hop to keep the customer happy or... revert to the "refill" method of delivery.

Located in a historic home in downtown Wylie, this establishment is a local favorite. Atmosphere is pleasant and the food is good - food prep quality varies after all it truly is home cooked. Prices are reasonable; service can be slow so plan your time accordingly.

The food here is great. We've tried it once for breakfast and once for dinner and were happy both times. August was "all you can eat ribs" month and those ribs were just as good as any dedicated BBQ place in the area. The downside is the service is exceptionally slow here. Prepare to wait 30-45 minutes for your food to arrive after ordering. We have a 10 month old little girl so this is a deal breaker if she's with us as by the time the food arrives, she's starting to get a little antsy.
