Great family fun. But ask the staff clearly about the family specials. If you order straight off the bowling "menu" it is PRICEY. But after digging at the desk with the staff it turned out there was a 2 game family pkg that was perfect and saved us $15 over the a la carte/per person pricing. And it was the perfect short game that most families are happy with.

a big group of us went here last nite to get some BIG ball action in. this was my first time to bowl here. the place was clean, and did not smell like old bowling shoes, which was important to me! the prices were exceptional! they were apparently running an independence day special. for 9 of us it averaged out to about 7 dollars per person with shoes for two hours of bowling! the staff were helpful and friendly. my margarita was tasty. =) we had a good time. all in all, i was very pleased with mel's. oh, good arcade games for the kids, and i really nice area for adults only to bowl and drink!

Food, fun and beer what else can you ask for. This is the nicest bowling alley I've ever seen.

Love this place! It's always so much fun and my family enjoys it. I love the American Breakfast; their menu is great for everyone. They have burgers, pizzas, breakfast, salads and more. My husband loves the big cheese. We aren't the best bowlers, but it's just a fun environment so score isn't important. Great memories here. Friendly staff. Arcade for the kids and a free summer program for the kids. We'll be back.

As you may have noticed by the other reviews... this place is great! Great food, great prices and clean facility. Get the summer pass for the kids and add the adults and you can bowl 2 games for just the price of shoe rental. They also have great deals throughout the year. We also got the refillable cups to bring back. We have gone over 5 times this summer so far. (kids ages 9 and 11) Kids love the music and blacklight bowling. Good exercise and good fun cant be beat. Only wish we had one of these in Cedar Park.

Last time when my husband and I went there, to my surprise, the pool tables was free during the time we were there! We got 4 rounds in while enjoying happy hour specials at the bar, super low prices! We had an awesome time and we know that when we go there we get our moneys worth in entertainment.

We have never bowled at Mel's but do stop in to CJ's for drinks and dinner pretty often. They have great happy hour specials on their drinks and appetizers. All of the appetizers are delicious, and the beer is good and cold. I will say that the last time that we went, the food was not up to par. I hope that whatever problem they had going on in the kitchen that night was resolved. Overall, we love CJ's. The food and service are always great.

We celebrated our son's 10th birthday at Mel's. Everything - from the preparation and communication before the party, to our party host, to the cleanliness and atmosphere - was outstanding. It was one of the easiest parties we've planned and our host (Sasha) was fantastic. Even several of the parents attending noticed how organized and attentive she was. I highly recommend Mel's for a child's party. Great, great time by all!

Mel's is a great place to have some family fun, have a drink, watch the game, or even join a fun drinking bowling league. Mel's has 2 side to the bowling alley. Mel's, and CJ's. The Mel's side is geared toward leagues and family bowling. The CJ's side is more for young adult and partiers.(thats where the bar is located) Either way both sides are a great environment. I've bowling in 3 leagues here and they are well orginized. The equipment malfunctions sometimes, but don't they all. Awesome happy hour, and food specials nightly. You have to try the Dude Abides burger! OMG to die for... Chicken fried hamburger, topped with hot queso, grilled jalapenos, and a chipotle ranch sauce. I also like the fact that they have The King Pin Club. A rewards type club, that will get you free merchandise.

Just got the summer family and kid bowling passes at Mel's and we love it! My husbands grip in his bowling ball came out and the guy servicing the lane was very helpful and was able to provide some stuff to help him to help repair it. Myself, I was raving about the nice and clean bathrooms. So much better than most traditional bowling alleys. The lanes were fine. Had kiddie rails that our daughter was able to use.

The family and myself were in the mood to try something fun and different. Bowling came up and everybody was excited. We arrived, paid for an hour and bought a 30 dollar arcade fun card for games. We were put on a brief wait seeing how it was Saturday afternoon, i understood. We played a few games and were called for a lane ready. Everything was going great until. ...... we had the unfortunate pleasure of meeting our lane neighbor. Every time we tried to bowl he would blurt out rules and regulations and then proceeded to lecture is on every move we made. I made it very clear to this @$$#0/= that we did not welcome his overbearing coaching. We have a 4 year old and we there to have a good time. He would even touch our bowling assist that our 4 year old wad using. After our last and final confrontation he tells us to " stay out of his way". So, instead of causing a scene we decided to go ahead and leave after roughly 15 minutes of bowling. We asked to speak to a manager and patiently waited another 10 minutes for an older gentleman to show up. We explained or situation and the only solution peg to us was. ..."I'll tall to him". No refund, no come back next time on us, no lane switch. .. Nothing! !! "I'll talk to him" that's it! !!! We dropped almost 80 bucks and that's the best they could do. Disappointing. .... simply disappointing. I would never run a business that way. Waste of time, money, and did nothing to welcome is back. Think we told all the people and families we know. .. you bet. Thought about having a birthday party there. ... not a chance anymore. Just. ... disappointed, not even about the money. I won't be able to recover the bad experience and waste of time. Disappointing!

Very disappointed, we usually get great service. showed up yesterday along with everyone else who had the same idea to get restless kids out of the house and was told there was 1.5 to 2 hour wait. We figured not a problem, kids can plays games it would be fine. At the 1.5 hour point we were to 30 minutes, at the 2 hour point we were told 20 minutes at the 3 hour point and $100 already spent on games, food and drinks we got told another 30 minutes. At this point it was 8:30 pm, adults and kids left very disappointed in the service we had just received.

My 13 yr old son attended their "Back to School" lock in August and had such a great time, he decided he wanted to have his birthday party here a week later. My daughters 19 yr old boyfriend came, and had so much fun, he decided to have HIS birthday party here a month later....so it seems we have been here quite a bit lately! One of the neatest things about Mel's is that it's something we can do as a family and everybody has fun. Where else can you take two teenagers for some family time and they're having such a good time they don't even mind being seen with their parents?? I'm way overdue in thanking the people that make this such a great place to visit. Rocky is the event manager that deserves some sort of event manager award. I've never met a more helpful, positive, and fun loving person ! (By the way, when she says you need to pre-register for events like the lock in ? BELIEVE her...) Jimmy is the helpful and friendly guy at the front desk. Our wait staff is always fast, fun, and efficient as well. Bottom line ....we are lucky to have this place in Georgetown! Go try it out if you haven't already -you won't be disappointed !

I have really mixed feelings about Mels Lonestar Lanes. I have spent a good bit of time at Mels. I waited for a long time to review it here because it seems so very hit and miss. The following are my thoughts on my worst ever experience at Mels. I have often observed other families, kids parties, kids group outings, etc at Mels and I have a very clear picture of the usual behavior of this cohort. I am also fully aware that adult leagues are generally very serious older people and at those designated times kids would not be welcome. I get it - a time and place for everything! Over all Pros: Non-smoking ample parking a chef there who can and will cheerfully provide allergen friendly food when requested (albeit for an additional price). Specific Cons: Wait staff could use some training and attitude adjustment Lanes could be more judiciously assigned - perhaps better training there too . Real time Birthday party very poorly managed - again more training needed. Since the 'Pros' are mostly self explanatory I will drive right into discussing the 'Cons'. I hosted a mid-day children's birthday party a couple months ago at Mels. We were assigned a space in CJ's and had reserved the party far in advance. Again - mid day and not during leagues. As kids go our party was pretty tame. It happened to be a slowish day at Mels and there were several lanes open in CJ's area as well as in the main alley area. I did not request any particular lane or area. We were assigned a waitress for the duration of the party. During our party A group of waitstaff (including ours) were standing just behind our sofa area chatting (apparently they had nothing else to do - no matter to me) when one came over and with nasty tone informed the others that our silly little birthday party was cutting into her tips. (Obviously this should not happen within earshot of customers - nor should other employees have to deal with that attitude - including the one working for the party who would collect the party tip.) A bit later, At about the middle of our party time a group of elderly people were assigned the lane immediately next to us. An irritable elderly man in their group complained loudly to their waitress within five min of arrival about not liking the kids and told her to tell us to be quiet and stop acting well - like kids! Guess which waitress was involved! The one angry about our having the audacity to book a birthday party during her working hours! She promptly marched directly over to me and informed me loudly that we were too loud and the kids should all sit down. I was floored! Our assigned waitress just sort of looked at it all and said nothing. I told our waitress that I had no intention of getting on to a bunch of relatively tame kids at a birthday party and reminded her that we were booked far in advance and that we too are paying customers. She seemed content to just ignore the snotty employee and the complaining customer. Her suggested solution was to just ignore it all. This entire circus happened in front of other parents who were equally shocked by the whole scenario. The rude waitress made no attempt to offer the kid hater a different lane - probably because it might have meant they were not in her serving area thus affecting her tips! She also seemed quite thrilled to reprimand me with a flourish to show the possible tipper she'd done just as he said. I probably should have demanded the GMs assistance then and there! Now - what do I believe should have happened here? What exactly could be improved upon? Well first off the staff in general should be trained in customer service across the board! They need to choose a standard and stick to it. The particular situation could have been handled with tact by offering to move the kid hater to any of the other open lanes, the pre-scheduled childrens party could have been placed in the larger alley area instead of the bar area at the onset of the party, the person at the desk assigning lanes real time could have mentioned to the prospective bowler that there was a party in progress and given him the option of a lane elsewhere at the onset, a manager could have been called to handle two groups of unhappy patrons (both myself and the kid hater). I was really upset and did not want to spoil the party for the kids so I simply kept a smile on my face and continued with our party. I reminded the kids that they had to stay behind the line but I most certainly did not tell them to sit down. How absurd! What do I intend to do about it? Never EVER book a party at Mel's again - and to make sure that of those parents who were not present they were all made aware that they too may wish to skip Mels as a kids party venue despite its advertising as such. And finally, Add my little experience here on Yelp.

We recently got married on April 18, 2015. Our reception celebration was held at Gabriel Springs. We first met Ralph at CJ's Catering through Mel's Lone Star Lanes back at one of Gabriel Springs open houses. My now husband and I went to visit with Ralph and do a tasting and pre-menu selection. We were hooked after that tasting! Ralph and his team were so easy to work with, very knowledgeable, responsive and not to mention the food was awesome! You always wonder if the food at your wedding will be as good as it did at the tasting. I can honesty say the food by Ralph and his crew at CJ's Catering was EVEN BETTER than we imagined!! They served plenty, let our guests serve themselves, let our guests go back for seconds and the food was hot! It was super flavorful too!! All our guests were raving at how great the dinner buffet was! We had a country style buffet (salad, rolls, chicken fried steak, chicken fried chicken, green beans, mashed potatoes and macaroni & cheese. Every bite as good as the next! Not only did Ralph make our dinner but he also worked with us to set up our appetizer display, cut and serve our cake but they also bussed all our tables. It really helped our wedding be such a classy event. Thank you Ralph & team at CJ"s for completing our day and filling us and our guests with an awesome dinner and amazing service!!!! Hands down would recommend them again!

Their food is wonderful, the bowling is fun, the staff are nice, and the arcade is fantastic! What more could you want at a bowling ally?

Less than adequate. Our family of 4 was given a lane in the bar and service was good. When we were moved to a table with our pizza we never saw a server. Our whole 'relocated' meal, we were ignored. No drink orders, refills, Nada. Mel's markets itself as family friendly but it doesn't fell like it in real life.

I love Mel's (and CJ's)! We've held a child's party in the bowl on a Saturday, an adult party in CJ's and made countless trips at various times to bowl as a family and with friends. The center is gorgeous and clean, the food beats typical bowling alley food by a mile! The price is what I'd expect for bowling in such a nice place...(I am a little perplexed by those who have complained about the price and whether they have actually bowled in other bowling alleys or priced kids parties at other venues?) CJ's is by far the prettiest, cleanest and coolest sports bar we've ever been in (and we've been in quite a few!) :) You get scads of tv's, nice seating areas, some games AND bowling lanes right there...and as I said before, the food rocks!! If you're looking for a great place for both kids and adults to have a great time, I highly recommend Mel's!!

Great family deals and a matching family atmosphere. This was our second time to come back here and it was well worth the trip. The lanes are always clean, they have a great friendly staff, the gaming area is set up nicely, and it is divided appropriately between a "mature" and "youthful" bowling areas (as I define it). The first time I came, it was with friends and the older kids. During that time we visited the side of the alley where the "mature" kids play (yeah, that's an oxymoron...lol), but we wanted to go there and have serious fun, drink our drinks, and eat our food while having fun. The second time we came, we had our "youthful" crowd of family and kids, so we naturally went on the "other side" where the kids could be kids, not worry about upset adults who were "serious" on their game, and otherwise we could all just have fun bowling. Both sides were excellent. The wait staff attended to our needs, they attended to our drink refills, offered assistance when needed, and overall knew that we were the reason they are successful. The lanes and area were very clean and well kept, contrary to what you would believe. They had birthday parties and the sort going on, but as fast as they cleaned the area... you would not have known it. I was delighted in our time there. As a tech guy and former competitive bowler, I appreciated the simplicity of the setups. When you pay for your lanes they enter your names and information at the counter. They even annotate the children or those who would need alley bumpers that prevent gutter balls. Why does this deserve attention? Simple. It saves you much needed time that you paid for (since we bought 1.5 hours of lane time). There is no need to fuss and muss with the scorecard system to enter all the names (wasting your time that you paid for). Next, it automatically deploys the bumpers for the people on the scorecard that require them. Unlike the days of old, when you had to either have the bumpers out there for everyone; manually have the bumpers deployed each time that bowler was up; or have one lane dedicated to bumper players and everyone else on a lane without bumpers. These small things all added up to a great experience and great memory of hassle free bowling. All in all, you should give them a try and see what they are about for your next Team Work Event, Kids Birthday Party, or last minute venture for fun on a Saturday morning.

There's a lot to love about Mel's but my recent experience with a kid's birthday party really soured my attitude about them. We signed up for the Strike party for 8 kids (ages 5-6) which includes arcade cards for each party goer and includes pizza. I should have opted for the cheaper party... the pizza was so-so and only two kids used the arcade cards and the ones that did burned through them so fast that they didn't even enjoy themselves and it was a complete waste of money. Two of my guests brought sibling toddlers that were determined to bowl. I asked the party attendant if we could add ONE additional party goer and let the toddlers rotate through that game. She nodded yes, but didn't respond verbally which should have been my first clue that I was going to be screwed later. Sure enough, when the bill arrived, she added on both toddlers as full party members and charged me $30.00 for letting them roll a couple of balls. In the chaos of the party, I couldn't even stop and complain or argue about the bill. There was more to dislike about the party attendant as well. She came over to me in the middle of the party and shoved a plastic bowling pin piggy bank in my face and asked if I wanted to have everyone at the party sign it as a souvenir. I said no, but that wasn't enough, she tried to guilt me into buying it by pressing with, "BUT THE MEMORIES...." When it came time to open gifts, she acted completely clueless about keeping track of who gave my child what... when at another party at Mel's, this had been completely handled by the attendant. I'm not sure what she did after getting everyone's drinks and shoes other than try to irritate me with upselling. There is a 15% gratuity added on to the bill automatically. If ANYONE orders ANYTHING in your party, she's getting a tip. But when I asked her about the tip as I was signing the bill, she said the gratuity goes to everyone in the whole building, not just her. Nice try and she didn't deserve a tip anyway. One other side note, the men's restrooms were apparently disgusting enough that my husband didn't even want my child to sit on the seats. Birthday parties are not cheap, they could do better.

Hello, I wanted to thank you for the party and set up. It was great! A special thank you for our hostess, Alyssa (hopefully I remember her name correctly)! She was absolutely AWESOME!! Her help and diligent attention to us all made it possible for all of us to have a great time!! The party deal was great and the pizza was YUMMY!! I would definitely recommend you for future parties!! Thanks again! Melani Imhoff

$36 for my husband and I and 2 toddlers for ONE GAME OF BOWLING! The value is just not there. They charge by the hour. When you have 2 toddler, it takes a while to get shoes on, get balls, go potty and get settled. We were one round into the 2nd game and our time was up :( Not worth it. I hear they have free kids bowling in the summer - just pay for shoes. We may come back for that - but not until then. Oh, and $3 for a small soda.

Long waits for summer "kids bowl free". Lanes not available due to leagues and field-trips. I question if it was worth paying for (parents and rental shoes for the season). Recommend calling ahead of time or reservations if possible. If ordering a drink (soda) ask them to go easy on the ice. I do enjoy bowling here with my family.

We had a couples date planned and the night was going great until 30 minutes before close they turned the lights on the lanes and refused to let us play shuffle board because they were closing... In 30 minutes??? We had just ordered another round thinking we could play a short round of shuffle board but the bar tender refused to give us the pieces needed to play the game stating that she already closed her register even though our tabs had yet to be closed. So she basically lied to get us to leave early! Not to mention she was rude and ignored us! I understand that you want to leave for the night but we were paying customers and you had to stay anyways till close so I don't understand why we couldn't play a short game... Thanks for ruining our night of fun and I'm sorry we might have delayed you getting off right at midnight! Sigh we had high hopes for this place :(

Their prices are competitive with other places, and they offer good deals. I love the automatic bumper lanes. I take my kids often and this is a great feature. I love that they allow up to 8 bowlers on a lane. Sure it slows you down, but if you have a crew like mine you need this. Main Event only lets you have 6 on a lane. I wish they had a better layout at the bowling table area. Not enough seating for my gang. I love the TVs near the lanes. Absolutely good for kids. Overall, I love this place. We go here and here only for bowling.

Since Interstate Lanes in Round Rock closed we have had to find another close bowling alley. Fortunately we decided to venture to Georgetown and Mel's Lone Star Lanes. The establishment was really clean and the staff was friendly. They have a family deal with an hour of bowling, 4 shoe rentals, and 50 arcade tokens for $38...very reasonable. I like that they can program the bumper to come up for just the player(s) who need it. I also like that the arcade is pretty extensive for a bowling alley. We will definitely be back...especially since we convinced our kids to save their arcade tickets rather that redeeming them for a bunch of little junky toys.

Holy smokes! We had a great time here on Sunday with the fam. I decided on bowling to celebrate my soon-to-be 6 year old's birthday. I love Dart Bowl, but since it was raining and we live North, it was decided to try out Mel's. We got there right when they opened (yes, we were THOSE people). The nice dude at the counter was super helpful and the Sunday morning special (1.5 hours of bowling and 4 shoe rentals for $29) was right up our alley. Get it? Alley?! Ok, I'll stop now. They have automatic bumpers for the little people and even these ramplike positioner thingies so that the kid's can aim. So that was cool. We had lunch there, as well. You order at the counter and they bring it over to you. I don't remember what my burger was called, but it involved about a cup of shredded cheese melted over my meat. The result was a halo of crispy cheese goodness that made my 1000 month pregnant belly so very happy. There is a nice game room with age appropriate video games and such. There is skee ball. Oh! The balls are all color coded. So all of the 11 pounders are green, the 7 pounders are all brown, etc. That made it super simple to find balls. We just had a great time all around. Also, I won.

I took advantage of the Mon-Fri special that runs opening to 1pm. For $7.50/pp + shoes you get to bowl until 1pm. That's a pretty good deal when the lanes normally run about $20/hour. The atmosphere was nice, the lanes were nice, and I liked the automatic bumpers for my kiddo. The snack bar is normal snack bar prices - pretty inflated. The arcade was basic - I still miss arcades from the 70's and 80's. The only bad part I found were the balls - I tried several and couldn't find anything that fit my grip. All the holes were too small and too close together. Bowling for 3 hours with a poorly fitting ball has given me a pretty good cramp in my arm. (I bowled a day and a half ago and I'm still sore!) It's fun - go do it.

My first bad review - hate to write one for a place we've enjoyed before. Worst service EVER - got a lane in the bar area - spent the whole night trying to get someone to wait on us - no menu, 20 min for a beer - one appetizer 40 min later - no napkins, utensils, dip etc. finally just said "forget it." Manager couldn't care less when we told her - said "what do you want, some free games?" Uhhh... No thanks, we won't be coming back - shame. I guess if you go only to bowl and get your own food - then it's prob. still a great experience. We've had some great times here - this was not one of them.

We were looking for something different to do on a Saturday night and someone suggested bowling. We knew of Mel's and decided to give it a shot. It was nice to have a separate section for adults after 8pm so we gave it a shot. I have never seen a bowling alley so clean! Since most have been around for a long time they tend to have a funk of spilled beer and cigs. Not an issue here. What amazed me was the large selection of beers (bottled). The service was excellent. They sent us a complimentary appetizer and we ended up ordering more. We decided to pay for a an extra 30 minutes to finish out and they did not charge any extra for it. Doesn't stink, good beer, good appetizers, free food, kid free. We'll go back.

I have enjoyed Mel's and the people that go there several times~don't understand how anyone could bash that place. The staff has always been friendly, the food tasty, and there are two sections to choose from!!! Having the ability to be in an adult lounge is wonderful!! Enjoying a cocktail while embarrassing myself does help soften the blow~even if you bomb everybody has fun. Live entertainment is the cherry in the Manhattan!

nicest, cleanest, most family friendly bowling alley I could imagine. and who'd guess - very good food. fantastic place for a b'day party, as I attended one with my son recently. the arcade is due for some updating/additions, however.

This was a great alley to go to on our family night with 4 year old and 9 month old in tow. The bumpers are not the inflatable kind but are metal barriers that can come up/down by bowler. So our 4 year old had the bumpers up on her turns but then they went back down automatically for us. This was the key reason we drove up to G-Town. If you are headed up to Mel's for the same reason, then be sure to tell the service desk which bowler(s) you want bumpers turned on for as they have to configure it from their computer. The service was great even with a pretty full house. I was definitely impressed as who thinks of a bowling alley as having good service?! We got the brownie sundae to share. It was shockingly good, real hot fudge and soft serve ice cream. I am a connoisseur of brownie sundaes and really this one was good! The only improvement would have been a bit smaller/lighter ball as 6 pounds was still a bit too big for our 4 year old. I definitely appreciated the fact that it is non-smoking and the music wasn't too loud or obnoxious (omg I am turning into my mother!!). We spent just at $40 for an hour of bowling for 3, shoe rentals and the sundae. I would have been happier with $4/game, but they said they were only doing per hour that night. Se la vi, seeing how thrilled the 4 year old was to bowl for the first time was worth it! We had a tad bit of trouble finding the place as Google Maps had it on the east side of the street but its really on the west side.

I will never be a great bowler (honestly, I will never be a good bowler), but Mel's makes me feel like I could be. More than just a place to bowl, this is a spotless, well lit family friendly place to meet and greet, and have a good time. There is a place for families, or you can connect in a "sports bar" bowling atmosphere that is under the same roof. The prices are great, and Mel's provides super value for the kids in summer. The food is better than average, and the prices are reasonable. The wait staff is suprisingly friendly and attentive. We go often, with a family of six. Also, we have gone for many birthday parties and events, and always look forward to going I only have two complaints... their front counter needs a faster solution, and like most places that have a game center for the kids, the games don't always work, or are not great choices, and the "prizes" are not worth the higher price of the games.

Its hard to fault Mel's. But if you don't have kids it can be a nuisance having kids running around what I would consider the "adult" part of the place. CJs is a 12 lane "nightclub" type hideaway that doesn't allow kids after 8pm. Ban them from 8AM and you can have the 5th star!!

We celebrated my son's 4th birthday at Mel's over the weekend. Let me just say that our family loves this place?? We had a great time and everything from check in to check out was wonderful. We ordered pizza and as always it was so yummy!! Our server Samantha was great!! She was on top of our huge group and though she was busy with other groups as well, she was always checking in to make sure we were doing good. This is an awesome place to bowl, eat and just have a great time!! Thanks for my son's great 4th birthday memories Mel's!!!!

Mels is a cleaner smoke free version of your average bowling alley. But its smack dab in the middle of a small town with little to do other than shop and go see a movie. Having moved from a much bigger city with lots to do, I am glad this place exists. Everything about this place is just like your average bowling alley. They have all the blacklights and strobes for cosmic bowling. Snack bar, video games, and hard plastic swivel chairs. What I like about this one that is a little different than your typical alley, is they have it split between adults and minors. The bar area is a little bit darker, and has their own lanes. They have pool tables and even ski ball! No smoking and even comfy pleathur couches just takes it to the next level. The food is average. The drinks are decent in quality and price. All in all its just a nice and clean typical bowling alley with a little bit of feng-shui. Perfect for a night out in Georgetown.

I came with a group of friends since they have unlimited bowling on sunday nights from 8-10pm for $5. With shoes rental it came out to about $9 a person which is still a really good deal. This location is a bit further away for the place is nice and clean. They were able to acommodate two lanes right next to each other for our big group. The one main thing I really liked was the nice benches instead of the standard hard bowling chairs on the other side of the alley.

I had my daughter's 8th birthday party here on 9/15 and it was fantastic! We were in CJ's as they had a bowling league that day on the regular lanes. The hostess was prompt and very helpful, always checking in to see if we needed refills or anything else but didn't hover by any means. I didn't do the package with the food but while there we decided to order a pizza and several appetizers...it was fast and the food was great! Hostess came over a couple of times to check with me on when to do our cupcakes, and I appreciated her helping us stay on task time-wise. After a very busy weekend with other commitments, I was thrilled to be able to have a party at a reasonable price with very little work for me, but lots of fun for the kids! Highly recommend.

Fun! Fun! Fun! Saturday night, trying to avoid the holiday shopping madness, we opted for bowling. It wasn't over crowded, prices were reasonable ($21 an hour for a lane). Beer was cold and music was loud! One bowling tip that I will humbly impart upon you: Too much beer seems to lower your bowling score. I'm not sure why, but this was our second time testing the theory and it seems to be valid. Either that or at 30 minutes in to our game, the floor suddenly slants toward the left.

Excellent birthday parties, fantastic place to take in the football games at the bar! I give only four stars because we buy popcorn, and it is consistently crumbled -- it's like all the kernels have been smashed, or I'm the lucky one who gets the bottom of the bin. I've mentioned this before, and ... got popcorn crumbles again. Otherwise, great joint.

Mel's could actually be a pretty cool place to go if they ran it more like a upscale bowling alley instead of a crappy thumping rap music bar. If we want to go dancing or clubbing, or whatever that lameness is called, we would go to a BAR or a CLUB, not a freaking bowling alley. Ugh. Honestly, if you are looking for a fun bowling night out with friends, a place where you can hang out, bowl some frames, have fun, some drinks and a overall good, relaxing time, Mel's is NOT the place. Now, if you are feeling like paying too much for watered down drinks, being charged outrageous prices to bowl, getting treated like crap by meat-head staff & having to scream at the top of your lungs in order to have a conversation, you simply MUST go to Mel's! All of those needs will be met with excellence! Take the extra 20 minutes and drive south to the old 300, it's just a much better atmosphere. I should say that the younger staff here (high school age probably) are pretty decent. They actually seemed a bit embarrassed by the adult staff behavior and attitudes. By the by... To the dude (it's hard not to stretch that "dude" out into douche), behind the main counter. Let me just help you out a bit. It's 2010, not 1972 and Mel's is a BOWLING alley, not Studio54. Get over yourself.

My 5-year old and I LOVE this place! They have it all - plenty of bowling, arcades, really good food and awesome beer specials, decent prices. I liked having the option to bowl by the hour instead of per-game. They also had a bowling for 2 special for $33 which I'll try out next time. The layout of the bowling is different than other places, in a good way (it's a new construction so they can afford to mix things up). You collect around a single table close to the alley, so you feel close to the game even when you're plowing down a burger in between turns. The computers are brand new and offer some funny animations in between frames. But my absolute favorite part of the bowling experience was the bumpers. They're AUTOMATIC! You can set up the game to raise the bumpers for one player, then lower for the next one. It's one of those things you see and instantly realize, of course! Why don't all bowling alleys have this?! Now I can play against my kid in a "fair fight" and keep things interesting for both of us. The big shocker was the food. It was actually delicious! And I don't mean delicious for a bowling alley, I mean delicious that we'd come back and eat here again without bowling. Service was excellent - the waiter talked up my kid and kept him laughing. Beer specials were also nice - Tues/Thurs/Sun you can find something for $2. Mmm...beer and bowling. Didn't check out the arcade but it looked pretty impressive. Yet another reason to come back. The other thing I noticed about this place - there's a "grown-up" bowling alley with full bar right next door. I forget the name, but it looked pretty cool in there - wood paneling and accents with more subtle lighting. I'm guessing their computers don't play cartoons between frames. All in all it was a fun experience and we can't wait to go back.

We hosted my daughters' birthday party there last Friday! Our hostess did an amazing job looking after the kids and their needs. We got to kick back and enjoy the party while she helped out! As a mom, this was one of the most reasonable parties we have thrown for the the girls. Can't wait to go bowling again!

Forget Main Event... Come to Mel's. I am the Aunt of two young nephews who like to bowl and eat and let me tell you, this is a great place to take these monkeys (and adults) It is by far the cleanest bowling alley I have ever visited, for starters. There is a small arcade that is the perfect size for the kids to distract them if need be. There are bumpers for the little ones(selective,so not all bowlers in that lane MUST use them, even though I usually need a handicap) and the ramps for the VERY little ones to bowl with. After a certain hour the lights go off and it's time to GLOW! Music comes on and the kids (and adults) can boogie ;-) It's alot of fun. The food is actually good....the menu is fairly diverse with alot of choices for picky eaters and the prices pretty reasonable. The service every time we have been there has been great--from the front desk to the waitstaff to the servers taking our orders--very friendly and service oriented. We will keep coming back.

Ok, I admit I'm new to Texas and bowling in our great state for the first time. I love Mel's atmosphere, prices are average, and it's a generally fun place. But one thing I find completely unacceptable: I've bowled many places with automated scoring and timing. But this is the only place I've ever been that automatically shuts down your lane and forces you to go pay in order to finish a game. Completely unacceptable. Are they afraid you're going to steal their shoes and run out? Again, fun place. And maybe this is normal for Texas - If so I'm sorry for y'all. I find it completely unconscionable.

Our school's end-of-year party was here yesterday. The place is very well run and this is anything but a typical bowling alley. No decaying culture or ADHD here which pleasantly surprised me. There is even a karaoke bar/eatery on one side where adults can take refuge. Very clean and everything works just right. The arcade games appear carefully handpicked and so actually appeals to the kids.

I feel obligated to update my review... just went in to give them another chance after close to a year. The last time we were in, the customer service was terrible to say the least. This time, we didnt even order, as when we asked if they could put the green bay game on one of their many tvs... the little piggy behind the bar simply said no... we dont change channels. Screw you mels. .. thats it. You officially suck. Anywhere else...any other town with competition and youd have gone out of business by now.

My family LOVES this place! We have fun when we take our daughter for bowling and games and just as much fun on date night with friends. CJ's food is a favorite of ours and everybody at Mel's is always so friendly and accommodating. Looking forward to the beer pong tournament on April 20th! We love Mel's!

I have been here three or four times, and this is my first review. I was hereon a Friday night wit my family. I had three kids, ages 10, 15, and 20, with me. We were here to celebrate my oldest son joining the Navy. We arrived around 8:30 and were able to get a lane. Immediately after getting situated, a great waitress came and checked in on us. Within minutes, I was in my fancy bowling shoes with drink in hand. Our waitress, who's name I'm not sure I ever really got, had a name tag that said "the little mermaid". If at all possible...get her!! The music was fun all night, and I caught myself singing along. The only downside was that my daughter found me singing along as well....as did all of her instagram followers :-) The food has always been good, and the beer has always been cold. I was a little sad, ok, a LOT sad that they no longer carry PBR on tap. The little mermaid said it just didn't sell very well. I understand that not everyone shares the high class taste of beer that I have, so I can forgive the lack of PBR on tap. It is available in bottles, and that's ok too! After spending 90 minutes of bowling, we then spent at least another hour in the arcade. The games are ok, and it doesn't feel over crowded in there. Overall, I have been extremely pleased with Mel's, and this Friday, I will be giving the attached bar with private lanes CJ's a try for my birthday.... I hope the little mermaid is available then :-) I will give an update to spread the good word about it this weekend. Can't wait to go back!!!

It was three yrs ago when I broke my arm at Mels. 1:00 on a weekday. The lane was very slippery b/c they polished it a couple hrs prior due to leagues coming in that evening. But assured me the lane should be fine I'd get use to it. Within minutes I fell and the mrg came over very concerned about whether or not I had read the disclaimer on the monitor. I told him no i didnt pay attention to it but i wasnt sueing anyone. He never asked how I was or if I wanted an ambulance. I told him i had never heard of bowling alleys being polished during the day, most I'd been to did all this at closing time so this type thing didnt happen. I hope they have a manager with a more sympathetic personality. The staff was nice can't complain about them and prices were decent place was clean.

Went to Mel's last night for my nephew's 23rd b-day and we had a blast. Kind of pricey on the shoes and lanes but the place is kept up well. Soap in the Men's room could use some attention. Supervisor-type guy at the shoe counter wasn't very friendly at all but our server Britt was great and Aron helped us out with some extra ranch dressing with an enthusiastic "Sure!" even though he wasn't our server. Employees were everywhere and all were super helpful. Staffing levels were very good. Drinks were very good. My wife likes Tito's Cosmos and Kat at the bar made them so well that my wife ordered more. She usually stops at one! Food came out FAST! Ordered a medium pizza with pepperoni and black olives and a half pound of the Huli Huli Wings (five wings, three drummies and two flappers). DAMN those things are yummy! The pizza was delicious with a hand-tossed thin crust and marinara sauce that wasn't too sweet. Sweet marinara can ruin the best pizza in the world. Pepperoni was bold with good flavor as well. The wings and pizza were perfect for the wife and me and total food bill came to $20. Not bad! Four rounds at the bar was $48 which is awesome for the quality of drinks we got. Overall, great experience. I would have given them 5 stars the Men's room issue cost them one.

Last night I went to Mels to enjoy some bowling with my girlfriend. We have been here before and enjoyed time in the bar area but the past few times there has been league bowling. On this experience after waiting 5 or more minutes without anyone even acknowledging us finally a kid walked up that already seemed in a bad mood. We ask if there is any room in the bar and he replies "not for 45 minutes because of league" I then asked is there ever a night that there is not league over there and let me know sternly "Saturday". So since we were not allowed to go to the bar I decided the main area would be fine, note that only 6 or 7 other parties were in this area. I am then told he can only give me 20 minutes on one of the MANY empty lanes. How can 2 people even enjoy 20 minutes bowling? Baffled by this I ask why? He replies were a small business and that's all we can do tonight! How do you expect to build sales by not giving customers what they want. You're a bowing alley and we came to bowl! Overall experience was awful and good luck to anyone that wants to use the adult side of the alley because apparently it's reserved for leagues 6 nights a week. Most likely won't be back.

This was a pretty cool place to hang out. The server/bartender was awesome! It was just a fun atmosphere with a lot of friendly people. We showed up right as happy hour started and ended up staying for a few hours. I would definitely go back.

I do like Mel's a lot, for the bowling at least. I definitely can see where a lot of the negative reviews are coming from and I do agree with many of the negative aspects listed by others. Pros: - Good league selection - great bowling specials throughout the day, I love the "All you can bowl" deals they run during the weekdays and nights till closing. Something like $10 to bowl all you want per person. (regular bowling is a rip off though!) - Pro shop is pretty good - Food and drinks from CJ's are good. Cons: - Outlandishly expensive bowling when there isn't a cheap special running... - Outlandishly expensive shoe rentals, something like $4 I believe... - Wait staff is very hit or miss. Many times our table is ignored and it's impossible to flag down waitresses without going right up to the bar to try to order food and drinks. - Kids parties seem pretty poorly organized, but I've never had one, that's just my outside perspective. - Lane assignments are often frustrating. Mel's has something like 48 lanes and more often than not they will cram everyone together in one section of the building. General rule of thumb is to space people out with at least one empty lane between parties, but at Mel's I'm constantly being assigned to lanes right next to other folks. All and all, if you're someone that really likes bowling and has the flexibility to go to Mel's during their cheap All you can bowl specials, you will be very happy. To much of a rip off to go at any other time to be honest.

This is a great place to go and hang out for an hour or two. There's great bowling to be had and, for the kids, the bumpers are automated. This allows them to actually enjoy themselves. The arcade is average, but a lot of fun for kids who just want to play games to "collect tickets" and see what they can save up for. The cafe food isn't bad, but nothing to write home about.

First and last visit here , our party of 4 had one beer a piece and after that was cut off because we were drunk ...... The manager or "Sheriff" (Mr. Grimes) here is an idiot, when notified by his staff with no prior interactions with us, immediately starts to accuse our party of consuming liquor prior to our arrival. He then proceeds to tell us that we are all highly intoxicated, but....he'll sale us each one more beer. I'm all in favor of not serving to intoxicated individuals, but the indecisive individuals that work here and their decisions that contradict everything they preach just lost them some business. As far as the house bowling balls, I could find no heavy balls with large finger holes, but there was an abundance of light balls with Large holes.

Now I have been here few times on company events and once personally. Large bowling alley, plenty of space. They don't have balls with L size holes (no pun intended). Many people complained about it. All had to either use very heavy balls as the 9-10-11 lbs ones were all taken. Such a huge bowling alley should have M&L size holes for all types of balls. How costly could it be really? Even the pool tables are really small and coin operated. Pool queues were broken at the head and scratched. Decent music and lighting. Not as flattering as main event. Plenty of domestic beers on tap. My biggest complaint is the food quality. Once we ordered catering and their burgers were no fun. They just left out mayonnaise that was not even the right spreadable density. Buns were not toasted. Pretty cheap overall. Veggie patty sucked. Next time we just drinks and snacks. The quality was pretty average, mall cafeteria level. My colleague ordered a pizza and it had pit literally dripping from it. Cookies were ok. I'd rather go to 300 as they have all size balls, better music. Or Main event as it has much more fun things to do and better food.

First if you like noise, this is your place to have a hamburger and a beer. Good thing the beer and hamburger was good. Bar area is small and close to the alleys where men and woman in colorful shirts try to improve their bowling and beer drinking skills. I got the cheese burger that has a ring of fried cheese surrounding the burger and bun. My lovely companion who dislikes anything that tastes good had a salad. She said it was very good. Draft is cheap at happy hour and hamburger was good. Waitress was very nice and answered our questions with out making any remarks about "old people". Shuffle board tables are in good shape and are $6 per hour.

This is a family friendly establishment but with a bar at the back if an adult wants to escape the bustle of kids running around. Service is great and the lanes are clean and ready for action. Mel's also has a game room. My only negative comment is that place is LOUD! There is no sound proofing so the music gets tangled up with the crowd.

Worst service possible! Was a part of a large party using the meeting room and only got half of my order in an hours time. Then when I went to check on it I was told they already delivered the rest of the order. I explained that I never received it and I was asked to produce the receipt. I can not believe the incompetence and lack of organization coming from the kitchen here. I finally received the other half of my order and was not even offered an apology for the problem occurring. The worst customer service possible they even charged me for a refill on my fountain drink after all that! I also wasn't the only one having problems with my order either. Several tables had part of their orders delivered and were waiting on the rest of their orders to arrive. Have had some fun times at Mel's ..... But this was not one of them!!!!

My husband and I decided to head out for a night of bowling...it has been a while and we had a sitter for our daughter. Our last experience at Mel's was pretty rad, so we were so thrilled to be going back. When we got there, we had to wait a few for a lane. No big deal, it was a Friday night and the wait was relatively short considering. We had a beer and got some chips and dip - the staff were very friendly. When we got a lane, our waiter passed by and served the rowdy party next to us, glanced in our direction, then ran off. OK. maybe he was giving us a second. So we started to get our bowl on. The waiter came back, served the party again, then passed us...again. OK so maybe he is *really* busy. So we continued bowling. The waiter came back and I waived at him, surely he would stop this time. Nope, went to go talk to the party again, then passed us again telling me he would be back. At this point I got super annoyed. He was spending time shooting the sh*t with the party and getting them shots, but seemed to not be interested in the least to serve us. When the waiter returned, we felt kind of rushed in ordering, not that we didn't know what we wanted since we waited so long, but he was kind of fidgety and kept looking at the party table as if he'd rather be serving them. We asked for a Big Cheese burger (cut in half for us to split), fries, fried pickles, 2 margaritas, and 2 waters. We also asked for silverware. He scurried over to the party table and took his time taking their orders, joking and totally relaxed, unlike with us. So....we waited. we bowled. The crowd next to us obviously had a little too much to drink and were not at that fun drunk, but that annoying drunk. I gave up on bowling etiquette since they seemed more concerned with taking shots than taking their turn at bowling. Their hands would hover over the balls, or they would stand about to take a shot, and then all we would hear was "dude drink first!", "Hey bro did you make the moves on....", I was getting dumber just being next to them. So rather than waiting until they were done to take my shots or let them get the ball first (we were using the same size balls), I would just grab the next ball, voiding their ability to use it until the next one came out. I digress... So our waiter came back, served the party's drinks first, they even offered to buy him a shot. I almost grabbed my margarita off his tray. He finally came over, had no waters and just gave us our margaritas. We asked him for water....again. He ran back to hang out with the party. Seriously. Eventually, he brought the waters and my hamburger, it actually didn't take that long for our food to come out after the ordeal in trying to order it, BUT it was not split in half and he did not provide silverware. My husband ran off to find silverware and was told our waiter would bring it. We waited a while and finally got the silverware, but by then, our food was cold. We asked him for another 2 margaritas. Between this time, he had made a few runs to the party table where he was hanging out. Our food was swimming in grease and the pickles were way over fried. The cheese ring on the burger wasn't that great, it looked OK, but was overcooked to where we couldn't taste the cheese and the burger was pretty darn bland for a $9 cheeseburger. The waiter came back and I asked him for more ketchup. The one tiny thing I got was not enough for the amount of sweet potato fries, which were the only decent part of the meal. He ran again to the party and hung out a while. Our time at our lane started to run out and I just started eating the sweet potato fries, sans ketchup. It took so long, we thought he was growing the tomato plants himself. All that time and he seemed to be able to make it to the party's table a couple times. My husband and I stopped bowling completely and just drank our margaritas and knocked out the majority of the fries. We wanted to get out of there as quickly as possible. Our date night was pretty much a fail and it was abundantly obvious that the waiter was more interested in the party offering him shots than he was serving a couple obviously on their date night. Eventually, he brought the ketchup when we were done with the fries. He noticed and apologized, dumbly saying that he had been too busy and had too many tables - the party table was directly next to us, did he seriously think we didn't notice him at the table next to us all night? We finished our drinks, paid our tab, and left the bowling area as quickly as humanly possible. We spent some time in the arcade in order to win our daughter a prize, which was kind of fun, but all in all besides the bowling staff we dealt with in the beginning, this was one of our worst dates. The fun was stripped from our bowling experience when we paid $22 for an hour of bowling + food/drinks only to be treated like crap. If I could give the bowling staff 4 stars I would, but our waiter was less than one star worthy...

I've been here several times in the last few days, and unfortunately the majority of them were bad experiences. Several times we've received service from the same woman, and every time she's been very disappointing. The first time we got service from her she was very gruff, & had a scowl on her face the whole night. I figured, everybody has a bad day, give her a break. The second time was pretty crowded, & she looked overworked, so we let her slide. Last night though, her demeanor was so poor & inappropriate. We were bowling and there were other people bowling on like only 5 lanes in the alley. But it took 20+ minutes any time we wanted a drink. She just kept disappearing. When we looked around, we found her just standing around looking bored. One time, after 15 minutes, I went looking for her & saw her just talking. I watched her, it was 5 more minutes before she put in our order (I didn't know it was ours at the time) she left that area & our drinks sat for another 10 minutes. I guess this is less a review of Mels, and more of our bad server Ashlee. She was very rude, & made rude faces (I saw her making rude faces & pointing at other customers, I'm sure she did it to us too behind our backs). I suppose the business doesn't deserve 1 stars, but the servers are representatives of the business, and Ashlee has shown herself to be a very bad one repeatedly.

Bad service. 4 of us ordered at same time. 2 came out. 30 minutes later still not come out. And I order another order of food. And get it before there's. They cancelled. This service is going down hill fast. I quit tipping well it's gotten so bad

I love to bowl and I've driven by Mel's a bunch of times and thought "that looks like a neat little bowling alley. I have to try it sometime". Years passed :(. I finally tried it on a Sunday night when they have a "$5 bowl all you want/can" special with neon/black light bowling. What a fun place! It's a fairly decent sized bowling alley (looks even smaller than it is because they have 2 distinct sections) with a main alley and about 10 lanes in the separate bar area. The bar area lanes were quite cozy with comfy couches and easy access to the food/bar area. The lanes seemed to be well-kept (although some in the group were complaining about theirs) and I even bowled the elusive 5-7-10 split...not that that's a good thing. $5 for 3 hours of fun is a great deal and I'm sure I'll become a regular. If you don't have your own bowling shoes, $4 seems a little steep for shoe rental. But what do I know...I have my own nerdy bowling shoes.

We miss Jimmy! Apparently the days of the front desk employees caring about all of their costumers have fallen by the wayside at Mel's. Where Jimmy would make a point of remembering regular customers and keeping his word when he told a customer something, the girls who work up there now couldn't seem to care less. My husband and uncle have difficulty seeing when they turn off the lights for galaxy bowling, but we compromised by requesting one of the two lanes closest to the walls. At Mel's, Jimmy always made sure we could be accommodated.... Then he moves to Florida and the front desk hasn't been the same. We went in for our regular Thursday night Ladies Night bowling session and my husband went up early to see what was going on with the line. When we finally got up there, the girl tried putting us on a lane farther from the wall than we could deal with should the lights be switched over. She then told us we would get the first available lane of the 8 (there were 3 not assigned). Sitting in the bar at Mel's after we came to wait, I saw her assign the 1 lane that was on that side (and also the first to come available) to two young girls who were several people behind us in line. Jimmy never would have lied like that. We miss him!

Listen, in a small town in Georgetown, an entertainment business is either a hit or a bust. With my experiences, and most recent experience, with Mel's Lone Star Lanes - it's been a bust. I love supporting local businesses. You can look at all of my reviews, I really do support them, but sometimes there are a few bad apples. Recently, my fiance and I went for a little pool. First off, I guess this was the CJ's side of the business. We experienced a rude staffer/bartender that clearly either hated her job or didn't want us there. The billiards set up was decent. Nothing fancy about and could be updated since there is only 2 tables. We then went to the Mel's side. When you hire high school kids, you get poor etiquette and terrible manners. No matter the situation, I am a paying customer. When we arrived at our lane, the table was covered in food and spilled drinks. With a little trouble with our lane, we ended up leaving within the first 45 minutes of our 2 hours we paid. I would rather drive to Austin and pay for their business than go here again. Highly disappointed.

(5)Noot N.

(5)Jen M.
(2)Korine W.
As far as birthdays go Mel's has the best value for your money... my 8yr old had a great time and our host Albert was awesome. Highly recommend.
(5)Catherine B.
(5)Troy H.

(2)Frank A.
(4)K M.
Sigh we had high hopes for this place :(
(1)Rick B.
(5)Vanessa D.

(5)John B.
(4)Brie R.

Best place to bowl
(5)Dana S.
(5)T R.
While visiting in the area, we had opportunity to bowl here, twice. Both experiences were great. Lanes and equipment were both in very good condition. Food and service were quality, also.
(5)Jeffrey L.
nicest, cleanest, most family friendly bowling alley I could imagine. and who'd guess - very good food. fantastic place for a b'day party, as I attended one with my son recently. the arcade is due for some updating/additions, however.
(5)Jessica H.

(4)Alex A.
(4)Misty W.
(5)Adam B.
(4)Angie L.
(4)Mary B.

(5)Christina K.

Great food and great fun! Great deal especially when you do free bowling summer deal.

Great venue for GB Packer games. Go Pack. Food & service are above average. Overall a good value. Will return.

Very fun family bowling!!

Great place for family or hanging out with friends for adult night out good time all around. There's an arcade for the children shuffleboard, pool and of course bowling great food with a great bar just a good time all around!

This is a great place to share w family and friends. Great staff, fantastic prices, awesome bar tenders, good drinks/food, and wonderful prices.

Great first time experience. Lanes and seating are pretty nice. Food and music weren't to shabby. Facilities are clean and the arcade had all working games. Great place for family will be back.
(4)Michelle J.
Very kid friendly. Had a great time. Not having to carry tickets in video area is awesome.
(4)Teresa G.
The pool table need new felt and bumpers. They are sooooo bad. Can't believe that they were that bad!!!
(1)Lauren P.
This was my first time here and will probably be the last unless I decide that waiting 45 minutes per drink order is okay. I really wanted to like this place, but service could not have been worse.

I will be back when I am in the area. What a fun place to bowl on a weekday!

(1)Yuvaraj V.

(4)Ru L.
(3)B C.

(1)Brandon H.
Bad service. 4 of us ordered at same time. 2 came out. 30 minutes later still not come out. And I order another order of food. And get it before there's. They cancelled. This service is going down hill fast. I quit tipping well it's gotten so bad
(1)Ryan V.
Fun place with very courteous staff. Took my family there for a fun outing and that is definitely what we had. We are now going to join a league at Mel's to boot. Looking forward to many more fun times!
(5)Terri J.

I bowl league on Thursday night and I just have to say that our server tonight Kay was awesome She is the most consistent and one of the fastest servers they have.
