Small towns should only be allowed to have restaurants like The Cottage. It's locally owned and like all family owned and operated business you can feel the difference when you walk in the door. The staff is very friendly and the menu offers a basic variety of country staples. I had the hamburger steak smothered with mushrooms and grilled onions. It was very good. The meat was well cooked and the gravy was thick and not too salty. They served it with a baked potato. I would have rather had mashed potatoes or rice. They did not offer either on the menu. The reason I love small town restaurants is the attention to detail. The bacon bits on the potato were actual pieces of bacon chopped up that morning. Nothing I ate came from a box or a can, and I could taste the difference. I would definitely recommend this place and I look forward to coming again in the near future.

The location is not set precisely on Yelp. I knew that when I was sitting in the restaurant, looking at the menu. I forgot to note the address to update the listing. The restaurant is on the north end of Old Evadale Road, in sight of the main highway. Really just a stone's throw away. The Cottage is a come on in, sit a spell and have something to eat, kind of place. At our departure, the owner's parting words were, "y'all hurry back now." Yes, that sort of people. Food is straight in the middle of okay. I ordered the small, chicken fried steak (CFS). A salad was included, delivered in a container the size of a pudding bowl. Modest. Dressing on the side. Remember; straight, "okay." I asked for a side of grilled onions with my CFS. They arrived moments after the entrée. Sweet and al dente. The CFS was served on an oblong plate and it occupied half. Adorning the meat was a generous layer of gleaming, pure white milk gravy (I feared to defile its perfection as it suggested virginity in presentation). I could detect a hint of nutmeg. Smooth and milky flavored. Gave the impression of authenticity. A brown, crispy coating encased a 3/8 inch thick slab of tenderized meat. A bit of salt but no chemical heat. I never encountered the slightest bit of resistance when chewing. All fine and dandy. Potato choice was, three and a half. Baked potato, hash browns and fries. There were two types of fries as described by the waitress: frozen shoestrings from a bag or, home fries which were, "home made." I chose home fries and they certainly were real. Parboiled and oven finished to a satisfying exterior crisp. Inside was moist, soft potato which I reckon might have started out as a Yukon Gold. Not fluffy enough for a russet. Beside, considering their size, you couldn't be roast and broil a raw russet fast enough in the time the meal arrived to the table. There wasn't a lick of seasoning on the home fry. Salt and pepper is on the table. I've added a picture of the CFS which shows the home fries occupying the other half of the plate. My wife ordered a cheeseburger. Mustard, mayo, lettuce, tomato and onion. The burger approached a half inch in thickness which spread all the way to the edges of the soft, pleasant brown crusted bun. She described it as juicy, medium done with no hint of pink in the middle. The texture of the meat suggested hand made. The bite was pliant and broke easily from the patty. Good job. Oh, I need to mention that the restaurant is CLOSED Sunday and Monday. Otherwise the hours are generous, staying open to 8 or 9 pm most days. Well, boys and girls, that's my story. Keep a bookmark in your Yelp app and stop in when your in the neighborhood. Remember, " y'all hurry back now."

The only thing nice about this place was the service. The food has zero taste, the decor was dirty. .even the menus had old food on them. The ice was cold and we picked decent music on the jukebox. No quite sure what the other yelpers get their ratings from.

Looking for a maw and paw place? This is IT! There's nothing like a local owned restuarant. The atmosphere is small, warm, and your waitress calls you sweetie. :) We chose several selection from the in-house juke-box and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! Note: the address here lead me to the wrong place, had to call the number listed and have them help me get there. I ordered the Chicken fried Steak w/ a baked potato on the side. SO DELICIOUS! Definitely homemade. Note: they aren't kidding when they say smothered in gravy, though. Also at my table was their double-meat hamburger (delicious) and fried chicken livers (not my thing). This place is a true gem. You'd be crazy not to try it.
