"It's like a fancy Cracker Barrel" I joked to my dining companions. Our server overheard and laughingly said I should put that on Yelp, that his manager would love it. So I am! As you might imagine, the food was way better than good old CB. Some of the standouts included the deviled eggs topped with onion marmalade and bacon (YUM), the crispy pork cutlets and fried chicken. The sides sounded amazing but weren't that impressive in reality...the rolls were especially lackluster. On the plus side: our server was really nice and informative, the atmosphere is awesome, and they have a $10 corkage fee when bringing your own wine. Boom.

Came highly recommended, but disappointed mostly but the hype. Ambiance was great, service was a bit rough around the edges with genuine apologies for missing utensils or mixed up service..not unexpected for a new restaurant, but not a tight ship either. They were out of crab boil (transitioning to crawfish for the season), "hanging steak," and who knows what else on their menu. Mussels were average, lamb shank tasted like it was under the heat lamp for much too long, can't speak for the other diners' meal (he said his salad was quite good). Hopefully these are just growing pains for a place with lots of potential.

Someone could have rolled me out of here - everything was so good. Order the fried chicken and crab mac & cheese. Those are MUSTS. My husband had the pork chops (not as good as the chicken), cornbread, and grits....all delicious. We came back for restaurant week and were underwhelmed by the pre-fixe menu. Definitely just order off the regular menu. Also, they have some fun craft beers, but I liked their selection of wines, too...they had a couple of my favorites.
(5)Sam Y.
I had a 10 person team dinner here. Great service and decent beer but the food just could not make up for it. On the waitress's recommendation a few of us had the fried flounder and it was simply one of the most bland and boring dishes I have ever had the displeasure of ordering. The appetizers were mediocre and they had to come back 5-6 times to tell us that a beer, appetizer, or dessert was no longer available. Not impressed.

I'm so glad this restaurant moved into Hotel Emma at the Pearl. The food was tasty and the service did not disappoint. The snapper I got was gorgeously plated - the crawfish was even holding a flower (check out the photo I posted). My husband got the three sides meal...which was great to share it all. We couldn't decide on one desert, so got the strawberry shortcake and the chocolate bar (like a homemade snickers bar). Sitting outside is a great idea if you have kids, and other than the flies here and there, was a perfect evening. One of our new favorite spots in SATX!
(4)Alicia D.
Our group of 7 included 3 kids. They offer a kids menu, but ours all ate off of the adults menu. Prices are very good, food is great and I loved the atmosphere. Our entire party ate family style which I definitely recommend. We tried so many different menu items; oysters, shrimp bisque, chicken cracklins, deviled eggs, grits, stuffed crab, crawfish boil, shrimp boil, crab claws, smothered chicken and I think we had 7 of the 8 different desserts! We can't wait to go back. I ordered the beginners beer flight and could not pick a favorite, they were all delicious!
(5)Darryl S.
They opened today and we were lucky enough to just happen by. It's an amazing place - you have to go for the spectacular work they've done restoring the historic Pearl Brewery alone. However it gets better from there - the GM Phillippe is a delight and the beers are delicious and unusual. Try a flight of their on-premise brewed beers. My personal favorite was the Coconut Curry Porter, a fantastic mix of flavors. MAGNIFIQUE!!!
(5)Lauren B.
Okay. We only had oysters and pretzels, but they were amazing! Christine was an AMAZING waitress! Took the time to discuss the menu, show us dinner offerings, a little history too! This place couldn't be more authentic inside and truly an experience. Loved every minute. Will certainly be back. Ask for table 5! View of the whole restaurant.
(5)Patrick G.
Two months old and where are all the people? We came for dessert and waited for a solid 10 mins to be greeted. They were out of several beers, I ended up ordering a flight which turned out to be really big. The peach cobbler was over cooked and bland while the creme brûlée was over boozy and the bread was dry. All that being said, the atmosphere was awesome and we wanted things to be great, but the staff just didn't deliver. So sad!
(2)Lana H.
I looked forward to the opening of this joint for some time before it opened and I'm so glad to report that it did not disappoint. My current favorite side are the grits. I could eat that by itself!! It's courser than the stuff you get at the store but still super buttery and creamy. And the cornbread.... It was almost corn-cake! And that doesn't even mention the main course... I had the slow roasted bbq beef hash. It was super tender and savory. And to top it all off, the wait staff and managers are friendly, attentive and well educated on the menu. With such a beautiful location, it's hard to find a single fault. A must try for local or out of town foodies alike!!!
(5)Don B.
My new favorite restaurant! Had the blackened drum with the jalapeño cheese grits! Super good! Also loved the Darwinian IPA. Ended up taking some home in a growler!
(5)William R.
A group of friends and I went in last night an had a great time. So after work today I wanted to try another beer. So I pulled up a chair to the bar. Wasn't even acknowledged, while bartender an management count money directly in front me. I almost left then and there, got my beer, it was great. A married couple sits near me and gets drink menu a "how are y'all doing today" a smile, completely different treatment. I don't ask for much but Damn! Southern hospitality was lost on me this day.
(2)Denise V.
It was our first time in tonight! My husband and I enjoyed a flight of beer for only $12! What a selection. Our server, Jennifer was a doll. She guided us our entire meal, we started with the blue crab BBQ boil, iced oysters, and snapper throats. Let me tell ya, everything was amazing but my husband and I can't stop talking about those throats. We will definitely be back. Can't wait to try their burger.
(5)Daniela C.
Sat down just when the restraint opened and the overall atmosphere was awesome but the staff didn't not put order in and we waited an hour for drinks/food and another 15 mins for the bill. Would not recommended.
(2)Patterson H.
Amazing beer selection, fantastic atmosphere, and great food. What else do you want?
(5)Marie H.
Kinda pricey but you get what you pay for. The food is amazing. Had the oysters as beer flight. Came here for a first date sat on the patio in the evening and it was beautiful. We can't wait to go back!
(4)Kimberly S.
Great addition to the Pearl! Friendly service, yummy food, and delicious beer. Welcome to the neighborhood.
(5)Orlando K.
Are at the restaurant last night.. We were there for a meeting so I got to try the whole menu.. The fried chicken was great! The corn ready was outstanding ! Vegetables were good too.. Overall had a great experience.. Will def be back..

I have eaten here twice in the past week and everything has been on point so far. The wait staff could be a little more attentive, but the food was excellent. Barbacoa Sheppard's pie was so rich and delicious. I don't know why I didn't think of this myself. That beef cheek meat so tender and fatty with the potatoes is heaven. Pork chops rival those of the legendary Perry's steak house. The sear and tenderness was excellent along with the mushrooms and pearl onions. Paired with the Carb mac n cheese and Grits. YES!!!!! The pretzel is perfect if you just want to stop in and take a bite of something and that Beer Cheese was so sharp and delicious I just could not get enough. Bigger portion please. The Roasted beets were on point with the herbs and goat cheese. Perfect snack. Pork Fat rolls were TO DIE FOR. The cornbread...don't order it. I can make better. It was actually more like a corn casserole. It did not hold up to the touch...just kept mushing and crumbling. The oysters in a half shell were the freshest I've had in a while. I am very cautious of these because of parasites, but when I saw them coming out and then had them, OMG...they were so fresh tasting as if they were brought in that day. The atmosphere is wonderful and the food delicious. I do not like beer; however, I did have a taste and from what I could tell, it was very well crafted. The hops were well defined and the depth of flavor was appreciated. All in all, try it out. You will not be disappointed.
(5)Erin H.
Incredible! We had the chicken cracklins, house made beef jerky, and oven fired pretzel. We came in at 2pm and were served from the mid shift menu. Every single bite was amazing. We also ordered beer from their brewery, and while I'm not a big beer drinker, the Texas Uncommon Ale and the Southerleigh Gold Export Lager were crisp and refreshing! I can't wait to try items from the dinner menu. The good thing is, I won't have to wait long as we have already booked a dinner reservation for tomorrow night. I'll soon update my review, but I only expect great things!
(5)EDWARD G.
I was there late on a weeknight and it was a little slow, so our waitress was very attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly. The atmosphere and beer were on spot, which seems to be a consensus. The Snapper Throats were very good. But the rest of the food was just, "meh." Good food concept, but it could have been executed better. Mostly fried and flavorless food. The chicken with red eye gravy was dry, overcooked, and boring. Skip the crab mac & cheese. Sounds better than it is. The banana creme brulee was soft & mushy with no crystallized sugar top. That's not a creme brulee. More like a mushy banana custard with bad flavorless banana bread. Wouldn't recommend it. Might go back and give it another chance. But probably not.

First - FIND it. The entire Pearl River Brewery dining area is a refurbished factory with about 4 eclectic restaurants and more on the way. Reservations are strongly recommended at any of them - and before 8 pm. The small establishments do run out of their signature dishes. This restaurant entrance is on the interior of the Pearl River Brewery courtyard. You'll find some metered parking on Grayson along with a small (but usually available) lot off the road. A one-block walk south between the refurbished factory buildings will take you to the central outdoor dining area. Look for their sign on a small cement silo, so look UP! SUMMARY: Compared to other SA restaurants, this one is 4/5. (I reserve 5/5 for truly exceptional 5-star restaurants with renowned chefs.) Compared to restaurants in competitive conference cities, it is a 3/5. FOOD: The menu is generous on shellfish... in San Antonio. A desert 200 miles from coast. With massive cattle ranches to the north. Bean tacos are the staple carb here. You get my message? [Doh!] I'm not a pig (don't ask my wife to validate that). All selections are served family style, so we ordered several entrees. Surprisingly, the oysters were edible. Being from a coastal city, I could tell the soft crab was, well... soft. The best entree I tried was the lamb shanks. Roasted to perfection and succulent, this rated second to my favorite place for mutton (a hole-in-the-wall Mediterranean place near my work). The spices were a might bland, but this was complimented by a very nice mustard. We also tried their in-store soft pretzel w/ mustard and cheese. The cheese was too bland for the pretzel (in fact, I didn't know it was a cheese), but again, the chef showed a good palate for mustard. The fresh salad was as good as at home, but did not 'wow' my waif-like wife. One of their strong points is a selection of micro- and in-house beer. Sampler trays are available. We did not try the (small) wine selection. The beer was very good, but since tastes vary, I won't indulge in a review. SERVICE: Prompt, polite, efficient. Note to their staff - wipe the schmutz off the beer menu before providing to your guests. (In contrast, daily menus are paper.) AMBIANCE: When we arrived at 6 pm, the dining area was nearly empty and the new-age rock was a bit loud in this refurbished beer-kettle-brewing room. By 7 pm, the music balanced the loud echos of conversation. As you sit at your table (only an Amazonian could sit outside on a south-TX summer), you can see the pipes and penetrations from years-past beer brewing. Bathrooms were clean and upscale (they get a 4.5). Oh... if you are a tourist, beware of outdoor seating at sunset anywhere but the river walk. We experience an evening thermal inversion almost daily, accompanied by winds of 20 knots or better. More than a few cloth napkins flew far afield from outdoor diners. VALUE: 5 beers, one appetizer, 1 salad, 2 entrees and a dessert came to $160 including tip for 3 adults. This is on par at ~$50/plate for upscale restaurants in the city. SUMMARY: If you are visiting San Antonio (particularly if you visit regularly), the Pearl River Brewery district is an excellent alternative to the restaurants on the river walk. However, use Yelp to find and make reservations. If you are a local, you may find the same cuisine closer to your suburban home at a better price - go to the Pearl for the atmosphere and community. Personally, this locale would be an annual visit or backup to other Pearl restaurants when entertaining friends visiting the area. I wouldn't veto this location, because the Pearl district is wonderful. Were the restaurant in a lesser locale, I would probably go elsewhere. DISCLAIMER: I grade HARSHLY. You will find very few 5*s on my reviews. A '3' is good!

Loved this place for lunch! I was expecting over rated food personally as I have not been overly impressed by most restaurants in the Pearl but I was wrong! I was here for a work lunch and couldn't get any of the beers but the selection was great. I will have to go back for a beer or two. Friends who were there at the time waiting for me sat at the bar and raved about the customer service from the bar tender and manager who answered any of their questions and were great at selecting the best choices for each of them. Now onto the food. I got the 44 farm burger. Not very outgoing but the bacon jam was amazing. I don't know if I can put into words how fantastic the flavors were. It went together so well without feeling heavy. One of the other people at my lunch go the chicken fried steak that looked mouth watering. The food came out quickly and our service was great. The prices weren't as horrible as I thought so I will definitely be coming back. The one con was the ketchup... It was sweet and not ketchup at all.

I have been anxiously awaiting the opening of Southerleigh! Today is only day 2 but so far it is very impressive! This evening we tried a good variety and everything was awesome! The building is incredible and creates an amazing atmosphere. The food and beer flavorings are equally impressive. The service from Angela throughout the evening could not have been better. I do have two items which would have made it perfect: 1) the lighter beers could have been slightly colder 2) and this is very important... Turn down the A/C! I found the tempurature to be very warm and humid. If your units can't handle spring weather in Texas you will have serious issues come summer!

Gets two stars for the beer and a few appetizers (chicken cracklings, deviled eggs and pretzel). Some friends had fried chicken that was raw inside (replaced by waitstaff) and there were numerous flies, one of which landed in my beer. If they work out the major fly problem and a few kinks, this could be a great place. Prices were high, but I guess we were paying for the hipster ambience (cool industrial place). Go for the beer, but bring your fly swatter!
(2)Adrian E.
Place is great concept but service is terrible, they always seem to mess something up. My wife's pork was raw, missing dishes left and right, and no one seems to care. This has been 3 bad experiences ive had here. Dont waste lots of money!
(1)Patrick M.
The restaurant atmosphere outshines the food. We wondered in after looking around the pearl. The atmosphere brought us in and the food will keep you away. My wife steak came out late and it had more chew than wriggles gum has. My blacken fish was dry and over cooked. The bread that they said was so outstanding came out cold and unimpressive. The wait staff disappeared and I had to go request plates for our appetizers after waiting 5 min... Not good! I guess the cherry on top was the uninvited guest MR. Fly..... My suggestion is to walk in and walk out or better yet don't walk in!!!

Overall an enjoyable experience. First the highs. Snapper throats - we got 2 - 1 larger than the other, both meaty and delish. The table next to us received 1 huge one. the chkn fried beef rib was outstanding - the glaze added a sweet component to the rich meaty beef rib. The corn bread was great!! The peach cobbler also delivered. The decently good but would try something different next time...the deviled eggs. Everybody is doing them - these are middle of the road - flavor was good but a little dry. The snapper entrée was ok but I would skip it next time for something different. The other bread rolls on the menu - simple bread - should be free! Things I would skip entirely next time - mac & cheese. Small and flavorless. I was really wanting it to be great. Mashed potatoes were alright but again way over priced for the portion size. This is one of those things pasta and potatoes they could load you up for bang for your buck but they fall way short with little 4oz portions especially in a place that advertises they are a "family style" restaurant and things are meant to be shared? Confusing and absolutely false on these sides. Service was good at times and remise at other times - took us quite a while to pay out. It had just started getting busy. No liquor is a negative for me but may not be for others. I prefer bourbon so if craft beers and wines is your thing this place is for you. Going back is a possibility, prices were reasonable - other than the bread and sides. No borboun lessens the likelihood of me returning. D.
(4)Travis T.
Ambience is awesome, location is of course along with many great eateries at the Pearl. Craft beer selection is great, enjoyed their simple flight and all the beers were enjoyable. Had the deviled eggs for an app and they were incredible! Highly recommend! I chose the country fried duck looking for something a little unique and I was a little disappointed simply because it tasted just like fried chicken... Probably more of a reflection of the meat than the preparation. My wife had the crawfish boil that was superb! Seasoned to perfection! To finish it off we had a pecan crumb cake topped with vanilla anglaise that was so-so because the cake was relatively dry; it was sweet and all, but the texture was too dry and not enough ice cream type material to moisten it up. Overall, good eats, great atmosphere, would go again.
(4)Annie B.
"Southerleigh fine food and brewery" Ha, more like sub par food and piss poor service. I was happy with my 40 dollar steak, but for 40 dollars, I better be. However, I went there on a WEEK night and ordered my drink before I put my food order in and didn't get it until AFTER my food came 30 minutes later, they are a brewery right? To make things worse, my steak came out warm, not hot! Did I mention it was 40 dollars?! The cheese grits were pretty tasty but I think I'll just make them myself next time. Pathetic.
(1)Raul G.
The food was mediocre and the service was terrible. It took way too long to get things. Apparently their inventory system is off too. So many things we'd ask for like this type of soda or that thing and they would say they were out. Also the oysters had what seemed to be very hard peppercorns. It made for bad oysters.
(3)Michelle D.
The atmosphere, staff and food are fantastic! We jumped off the Double Decker bus at the Pearl stop and are so glad we did, otherwise we would never have found this gem! At first glance our kids were not sure what to get on the menu - it is a tad eclectic but I am happy to say they all were very pleased with their choices. My daughter was given dough to occupy her time and they baked it for her dessert - cinnamon pretzel! We had the following - Homemade pretzels for appetizer - great taste and nice size! Ahi salad - fantastic!! Garden salad - great and nice portion size. Chicken Cesar salad- my son loved it and loved the chicken seasoning! Cesar salad - great and portion size was filling for 17 year old boy! Double cheese burger - awesome flavor and two bites too big for my 16 year old son! Chicken wing kids meal - nice size drummers and wings. The fries and homemade chips were amazing!! The salads had pickled okra and homemade pickles - yum!! We had water as beverages since we were parched from the bus ride and the temps at 100 but I'm sure their beverages they brew are just as exceptional!

A few friends and I visited on Saturday. Everything was amazing. The beers brewed here are amazing. The food was delicious. We started off with the Wood-fired Pretzel, Crispy Fried Chicken Cracklins, and Iced Oysters. We also had the Old School Stuffed Crab which was the best I've ever had! Last, but not least, we had the Smothered Chicken Breast and Leg. Everyone at the table loved the chicken! Our server was very familiar with the items on the menu and was very professional. If you are looking for an awesome place to go with great atmosphere, I definitely recommend you visit Southerleigh!!
(5)Bro F.
I feel like we just dined at an upscale Cracker Barrel including the biscuits & cornbread. Yes, I will give you a second chance. Before returning could you do a taste panel so the server is at least aware of how the item is prepared and what is in it???
(3)Paul D.
What a great, new restaurant. The atmosphere was fantastic, as was the service and food. Our table shared several of the small and large plates. The flounder and snapper throats were the highlights of the meal. Excellent beer as well!
(5)Steven Z.
I had a very good experience here. The food was super good and presented well. It was gourmet-quality with a reasonable price. The decor was absolutely wonderful. I know the owner's family and must say I am super impressed. Even the bathrooms looked classy! Go and visit, you won't regret it!
(5)M H.
I'm an outlier, I know, based on other reviews. I'll try to be balanced, but 2 stars is generous based on our recent, not to be repeated, visit. First the good news- it's a brewery and the beer is good. I'm a beer aficionado, and I tried my spouse's also. Both excellent. The bread was also good- we tried pull apart rolls, and cornbread. They lose a fraction of a star for charging for basic bread selection though. Staff also very good- waitress was friendly, energetic, and honest (see below). Venue also nice- rebuilt old industrial setting, with the brew equipment upstairs, visible on a loft. Now for the bad news. It's hard to find- set your GPS for the Grayson St address, park as close as you can, and it was difficult for us to find. We didn't mind the somewhat lengthy hike, but the lack of signs was a problem. It's loud- probably on purpose, as there was nothing in the large, open dining room to dampen the din. Nearly impossible t have a conversation. The food was meh- not terrible, but not inspired. Certainly not worth the price paid. Saving the worst for last- the place was infested with flies! Waitress told us that they had been "a fly problem" for a week or so. We were inside, and we were attacked by squadrons of aggressive flies from the minute our appetizers were set on the table til the end of the meal. Not an occasional buzz, but constant, attacks from multiple directions. Unsanitary, unpleasant. Unacceptable.
(2)Deseere' C.
Wow! These people know their beers! The service was excellent and they knew the menu and pairings very well. Chefs table was an experience! Try the roasted beets and oysters. There isn't a bad beer on tap. Way to elevate Texas Craft beer to the next level.
(5)Sergio V.
I really enjoyed the appetizers and sides we ordered. The cracklins and Mac n cheese were amazing. The pork chop and steak were okay, but not the quality I expected. We ordered a beer flight and enjoyed all of their brews. My favorite was their IPL. Overall, I expected a bit more. I'd give this place another try though.
(3)William P.
Ugly exterior, very nice inside. Our waiter Chris was excellent. The woman at the front desk was the antithesis of cordial; we very nearly left before being seated. So so beer. One of the IPA's was good but nothing else was a stand out. We had the ox tail pie and it was delicious. We saw plates going to other diners that look great, so make better beer and this could be a major hit.
(2)S B.
Servers very rude & flippit. 4 stars for food but only 1 for service! Visited last night for first time & female bartender & food server were both VERY rude. Tried asking about wine & beer recommendations & it was like we were bothering her. Same situation with female food server on food. Considering prices you would expect a lot friendlier service. Will not be back!
(3)Timber S.
This is a complex situation. Let me start off by saying the food was good. Well prepared, well-seasoned. The architecture of the old building is really inspired and fun to experience. However, the service left a lot to be desired. There were technical difficulties right out of the gate which set a less than "cared for" tone. The server was pretentious and condescending. I've had many fine dining experiences before and don't expect to go to a restaurant to leave me feeling like I'm being sold a used car for a meal. Everything was being up-sold to larger portions, more expensive items (for everyone at the table). The menu was not explained so much as "marketed." All of this would be fine, if the service hadn't been exceedingly slow. We started timing (which is a bad sign if patrons have gone to the point of timing service) the server. It took 20 minutes to produce a cider which simply comes in a can. This happened twice. When we asked for a desert menu it took so long to return with it that we found and decided on a different restaurant for desert. Furthermore, if the sales style of the restaurant is to be pushy and haughty then it would behoove that same location to maintain full stock of items. Only after we'd spent time deciding (from a fairly small menu) were we informed of what was out. I will grant that restaurants run out of items from time to time. But this bordered on absurd and again was presented from a superiority position which left a bad taste in our mouths. I did not have a stellar dining experience which made the good food seem wildly overpriced. I pay for two things at a restaurant of this caliber. Good food, and sensational service. When one lacks the other suffers. Also - this establishment did not provide a military discount.
(2)Grant L.
I have been here twice. Once to try the beer and once for dinner with friends. My entree was fine (blackened redfish), the deviled eggs were quite impressive, and the prices were reasonable. That said, I don't think I'll be coming back here soon. The beer hasn't quite got it's feet underneath it and the service is pretty indifferent. Additionally, for the uninitiated, the menu is not particularly simple and the staff doesn't care to demonstrate any patience in explaining it. It's new and the building is beautiful, I just hope it works out the kinks. Prost.
(3)Rayni R.
Everything here is made from scratch. The food is awesome, my husband loved the beers!
(5)Vonia P.
Love the architecture here, industrial ambiance.... The seafood is great, southern feel.... Try the boilers! The cornbread was also good. Oysters were fresh. Service even better. Try a flight. One of a few great breweries around.
(4)Jeff M.
Beer was very good. The IPA was on par with some of the better IPA's out there. Food was a 2-star. The wings were a little undercooked. Tough. One wing was hot like it just came out of the oven...the others were not even warm. Boiled shrimp had no flavor.
(3)Arica E.
The two stars are for the food only. I can't deny that the food, when done right, was amazing! My husbands lamb was incredible and the mashed potatoes were great! However, when the service is terrible, it's hard not to have blinders on. My husband put a lot of effort into my 30th birthday and was so excited to host it here. 15 of my closest friends...We arrived and moved tables around to accommodate the feel we were going for (one large family style table vs 3 smaller tables) and greeted with the GM already explaining that it was going to cause bad service. When we offered to move it back, he said no, we will figure it out...I wish you had figured it out because it just felt like your staff intentionally dropped the ball. We ordered and our food was brought out so sporadic, it couldn't have been just because we were a big party....one girl was let with no food while everyone else ate. I was personally embarrassed. To top it off my pork chop came out raw...not trying to play diva here but you CANNOT mess up on the birthday girl's dish -- just an epic no no. Totally disappointed!

I was in San Antonio for the first time this past weekend - for a wedding. I stayed on an extra day, and had Sunday for exploring. A bartender at Arcade recommended Southerleigh for dinner, and I'm so glad he did! I lucked into visiting a fantastic and brand-new spot. The fact that it was so polished, yet less than two weeks open, was really impressive. A few highlights: 1) Beet salad. Just get it. So flavorful and delicious. 2) Beer. I tried the IPA on draft - yum! - and then on the advice of the bartender tried an off-menu lighter/cider-y beer. Also fantastic. 3) Staff. I sat at the bar on a somewhat quiet Sunday eve, and the team was great. They took the time to listen and advise so I'd end the night with a great closing beer. One of the bartenders also talked to me about the history of the building and the former Pearl brewery. I sat solo, but felt really welcomed. 4) The space. It's beautiful! Everyone should go on dates here! Whoever you bring will think you're pretty damn smart. My only callout might be the price. It's not cheap - but I thought it was worth it.
(5)T H.
Loved it! Wonderful restaurant with delicious selections. The stuffed crab was absolutely to die for, and the atmosphere was fun and different from other places in SA. Definitely will be back!
(4)Cecilia G.
I invited my boyfriend for his birthday and we absolutely loved it! The staff was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable. We started off with the beet and goat cheese salad. It's delicious and I high recommend it. For dinner I had the lamb and he had the quail. We both loved our choices and we will definitely be coming back! The coconut porter is also a must try!
(5)John K.
The ambience is cool, beer is very good (start with a flight) and the snacks, boiled peanuts and onion dip were yummy! We looked at the dinner menu on the way out, looks great. Definitely coming back.

I would go two and a half stars here but I can't give it three stars. Maybe I caught an off day but this place was just ok for the price. The doofus at the front desk immediately said we would be on a wait list for at least an hour - meanwhile there were at least four clean empty tables right in front of us. Anyway we took an outdoor table complete with about a billion flies and tried the beer flight which was pretty good especially the wheat and the porter. There was a dish of mac and cheese with crab meat that was tasty, a little bit spicy and not too fishy. We also had the cornbread which was good with a nice texture and good flavor and some mashed potatoes which tasted like someone just gave up on them before they were done as they were bland and lifeless and still had large chunks of potato and literally no flavor at all. The main dishes were expensive ($25+) and judging by the complaints of the table next to us we decided to skip it and move on.

Great ambiance, but short staffed for outdoor seating. This is a great place to visit again.

Wasn't expecting a grand restaurant when I heard a new brewery was opening. Went straight to the bar and checked out a decent amount of selections. It was a little hard to get the bartenders attention at first but finally was able to order.. Had a Six Point Hi Res IPA from Brooklyn, NY. No question, it was great. The bar seating was full and we weren't planning on eating so I wasnt sure what to do. We wandered around and luckily found 2 open seats right in front of the kitchen. The waitress was great and very helpful. We ordered a wood fired pretzel and fried crab claws with hot pepper aioli. Food came quickly and was very delicious. The neighbor to the left of me was raving about the crawfish and the great spicy seasoning. She is from Louisiana so I believe they will be great when I try them next time. The server was also friendly and gave me some insight on some of the beers. Now with more time I was able to find a house brew "Scofflaw Braggot IPA" which was amazing. I had a great experience and will surely return. I wasn't able to look and see if there is additional seating to just sit and enjoy a beer, I hope there is.

Have been here twice now, absolutely great, have tried most of the sides, love the mac n cheese, whipped potatoes, rolls and corn bread, had that paired with fried chicken and top sirloin...heavenly, tried some of their craft beers, awesome, cool decor, and great service, will def be back

Wonderful food and great service. The general manager goes around and makes sure everyone is happy. The smothered chicken, grits and cornbread were awesome. And the Buttered pecan crumb cake is not to be missed! Will definitely go back!

This restaurant is the absolute worst. My husband and I went there for a appetizer and the bartender couldn't have been more rude. I will never go back to this place in my life. The service and thus overall reputability of this place should be seriously questioned. I have never been treated so poorly

I really really really want to give this place five stars, they have some really good ideas here, however there seems to be some kinks to work out between the kitchen and the service. My Husband and I really enjoyed the ambiance and the menu sounded delicious, but the execution on certain dishes was lacking. We had the deviled eggs which were awesome, they had this really yummy smoky BBQ flavor to them. Then we had the house made potato chips with French onion dip and ketchup. A little underwhelming, but after all, it is just a potato chip. The ketchup was weird, very soupy in consistency and missing that vinegar kick, almost overly sweet. I had the pork shank which was dry dry dry. I kept trying to resurrect it in the sauce before eating but that didn't help. Hubby had the fried chicken, some pieces were dry, some not, but the seasoning was awesome and nothing like I've ever had before. We also got the pig fat pull apart dinner rolls, these basically reminded me of the rolls you got with hot lunch in elementary school. All the dishes were plated beautifully which I really appreciate, however I think the biggest disappointment of the night was the dishes came out right on top of one another! I know on the menu it says all dishes are served family style and meant to share, and they come out when they are ready. Cool, I get that, but literally we were in and out of the restaurant in 45 minutes and didn't even have time to get a second drink. Servers kept bringing dishes out after we'd just received one and we didn't even have enough room on our table for all the dishes. With such a cool atmosphere we would have loved our visit even more if we hadn't felt so rushed and maybe been more forgiving of the food issues. Would still come back and give it a second try!

I was not happy when I departed after two plus hours; most of which was spent waiting on food and drink. However that is not the whole story. First let me say that our waitress was really good and despite all things working against her she was the only thing that was good. Upon sitting we order drinks and some rolls, some 30 minutes later we had rolls which were good but not hot, would not melt the butter which was already soft from sitting on the table. The menu states the dishes are served family style and the portions are large. Not even close. We order a whole Parker Creek Ranch Fried Chicken, seared red snapper with the sauce on the side, mashed potatoes, mixed veggies, and fried cabbage for 4 adults. Remember this is family style. There was not a whole chicken, it was a couple of wings with a little breast left on them and a couple of thighs chopped up to make about 8 small pieces of chicken. The Initial flavor was good but the chicken was not totally cooked, raw near the bone. The seared fish was the slightly larger than a normal serving, luke warm, with little to no taste as we had the sauce of the side, they forgot to serve the sauce and when it arrived the fish was cold. The sides all tasted good but don't plan on sharing them as they barely made a single serving. All in all a very disappointing waste of time and money.

Y'all, I loved their burger and fries so much I didn't even wait to take a picture of the damn thing. Friends and I came here around 11 pm after a bodybuilding competition and were starving for something to eat. We had originally planned to dine at another restaurant nearby but were really craving burgers and had dropped by this place to check it out; thank goodness we did! While we were given a trimmed down menu with less options, we didn't mind too much since we really only came here for a burger and what a delicious burger it was. Medium rare with the fixins and this bomb homemade ketchup that they put a bit of their beer into. Holy guac that ketchup was life. Fries were nice and crispy just the way I like too. Service was muy bueno as well. Waters were filled continuously, and our server frequently made sure we were doing fine. I would definitely go back and try their full menu!

Saturday night, 10pm, we had a reservation. They were out of EVERYTHING. Thankfully the waiter informed us ahead of time what few menu items they still had and made a recommendation... I think you know where this is going! Soon after denying us the dish he had recommended he brought out a late night bar menu which was half of the stuff they were out of, and one thing that we already had (the pretzel - overpriced but pretty good!). So we went home and had cheese and crackers. The beer is great, but two in our party got flights and nothing was labeled, nor did the waiter have any idea what the different samples were. We've had our share of beer flights; they are always labeled for your enjoyment. So, good beer and good atmosphere, but clearly this restaurant is still at an "opening night" skill level from an operations perspective, which is disappointing. My corny joke as we left was that they should change the name from "Southerleigh" to "86," because that's more representative of the kitchen's output.

Everything I ate here was amazing. We had a big table and the chef sent out such great food Chicken Cracklings Fried Fish Snapper Throats Deviled Eggs Crab Mac and Cheese The restaurant is very big and nice.I would recommend this place to everyone, you will not be disappointed.

Well, although I was there solely for the beer twice, this time I brought my yelp review assistant. I knew one of the house specialties is fish throat, and wanted to bring someone who would appreciate them Date night with my daughter, 12 years old and she likes to be wow'd. We wind up there last week in a busy night and it happens to be restaurant week in SA which means a full course meal for locked in pricing. Overall great food and great beer, throw in amazing atmosphere and you have a winner. The highlight of the evening was when my daughter and I got a quick tour upstairs of the brewery. I believe it was our server "brian" who worked bar that night whom is also on the brew staff here. Overall this place helps the city gain a stronger presence as a culinary destination.

Everything is just fantastic at Southerleigh!!! Staff is the best in town! True Southern Hospitality with tasty beer and delicious hot food!

Ordered off the appetizer and sides menu. I recommend the chicken skin and deviled eggs for a starter. The crab mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, and jalapeño grits are good! Also, the pig fat rolls were to die for! The restaurant is also a brewery and the Uncommon Ale was my favorite. The service was great and our waiter was hilarious. He even ate with us. Would recommend you make reservations because it gets packed fast.

I 've always wanted to try Southerleigh since i've heard so many great things about this place. Restaurant week rolled around and a group of us decided that it was TIME for us to try this place. So, we made our way down to The Pearl and parked in the garage. We walked out and walked around The Pearl and had a hard time finding it. The darn GPS even took us in the wrong walking directions. Luckily we found a security guard that pointed us in the right direction. We went into the restaurant and I was really impressed by decor of the place. I loved the fact that there were wine and beer barrels that are in location. We were seated immediately since we had made reservations via OpenTable. We were seated in John V.'s section and I have to say that I am super glad that we did. He was so helpful with explaining the menu, the history of the restaurant/chef, and also recommendation on the food and adult beverages. We all started with either beer or wine and everyone loved their choices. We ordered the restaurant week offerings and we all had different items. For appetizers, our table had 1) stuffed crab, 2) deviled eggs, 3) small salad, and 4) roasted beets with goat cheese. EVERYTHING was DELISH!!! I am very picky with my deviled eggs and they are hands down one of the best that I've had in the city. That onion, bacon marmalade was sooooooooo good! The small salad was light and refreshing (I don't remember the name :( ). The roasted beets were nice and tasty. I didn't eat the stuffed crab, since I'm allergic to shellfish, but my friend said it was amazing. Next came the entrees. I had the had the steak dinner and the meat was cooked to perfection. It was on a bed of mashed potatoes and I literally cleaned everything off the plate. My hubby and the rest of the table had the Gulf Snapper and they absolutely loved it. I tried a piece of the fish it had a nice fry to it and did not feel greasy at all. Finally, we had the Dessert. It was a Pot de creme with cookies in it. They were served in cute mason jars and it was awesome! I went last Friday and I'm already trying to convince my hubby that we should go this weekend again! **Shout out to John V.! Thanks for the excellent service and we'll be seeing you again soon!**

This is my new favorite place! The map is a little off, but it is located next door to the Boiler House. If you like the Boiler House you'll love this place! Same elegant/industrial look, with awesome food and phenomenal tap beer! The beer is brewed on -site and is so delicious. It is very high quality and there are at least 10 taps! The prices are very reasonable ($5-6 per beer) and they can fill your growler as well. The bartender Curtis was awesome! He knew so much history about the building and the Pearl District (as well as the new Hotel Emma going in next door). This is a must-try of you haven't gone! They also have outdoor seating for when the weather is nice. I was told the brewers are on-site Tues-Thurs and will take you up to view the equipment and answer questions. Unfortunately we went on Monday so we couldn't view the brewery equipment up close.

I really can't believe this place exists. My husband and I have tried many a brew-pub with expectations high, only to leave disappointed in the beer or the food. For some reason places can't get both of them right. Until Southerleigh. I've been wanting to try Southerleigh since it's opening, but I'm glad I waited a bit for things to calm down. I made reservations for a Friday evening around 5:45, and it seemed to be pretty chill. We were seated promptly, and our waitress was attentive all evening. Our food and drinks came out super quick, as well; so quick in fact that we had to do multiple rearrangements in order for everything to fit. As for drinks, we chose the advanced flight with four of the hoppier/darker beers (we ordered the 8 beer flight thinking it came with 8 different types of beer, but no, just four types with two glasses of each beer). I think it came with a couple of IPAs, a porter, and something else. I can't find a drink menu online, but it doesn't matter, because all of them were fabulous. How is that possible? I had to order the pretzel after seeing all of the pictures on social media, and it was just as good as it looks. We decided to do the 3 sides for $14 and something off of their larger plates and share everything. It was SO much food; we would've been fine sharing the larger plate and the pretzel, or maybe just one side. The crab mac and cheese was rich and flavorful, although I didn't detect any actual crab in my bites - mostly just flavor. The jalapeno grits were pretty good, but the cornbread was where it was at. It was perfect as a dessert, actually, because it was pretty sweet with a nice bite of heat at the end. Yum. The snapper we ordered came out beautifully presented and delicious...and huge. A great portion size, definitely big enough to share. It was a little pricey, but it was totally worth it. Definitely a treat, and a great addition to the Pearl.

Come for the food, stay for the brews! Last time I was in town on Southerleigh's opening night but I wasn't about to brave the crowds. This time, Southerleigh is Yelp's ROTD! I took it as a hint from the universe and headed over for lunch. While I didn't try as much of the menu as planned, this spot is worth venturing to the already-packed-and-popular Pearl district. The upscale-Southern menu has both small and large plates, as well as a daily pick-two Cellarman's lunch special. Current choices on the special were underwhelming (the soft shell poboy I'd hoped for no longer among the options), so I stuck to small plates- the deviled eggs and oft-recommended snapper throats. The verdict? Simple and delicious. The snapper throats plus an app or side make a filling meal. The eggs were just okay (bacon-onion marmalade just isn't my thing), but the joyful flavors of the snapper snuck up on me. It's a collar cut, oddly angular in appearance and deceptively meaty, cooked crisp with a lemon-touched skin and a light sprinkle of fresh herbs. The contrast of flavorful exterior and moist, delicate interior ranks pretty high up there on fish dishes I'd order again. The two dipping sauces were just fine, and would be rendered unnecessary if diners were provided lemon wedges. This is how fish should be cooked: flavorful enough to not need accoutrements.

I really needed my #fatpants for my lunch at Southerleigh. I mean, how could I say no to the 44 Farms Burger that came with not one, but two patties, bacon jam, and a pork fat bun? Exactly. I couldn't. And then, who was I to turn down the offering of jalapeño cheddar grits as my side? No one, that's who. After the meal is when I realized how lucky it is that I usually wear dresses because I couldn't stop eating my amazing burger and would surely have had to unbutton my pants if I had been wearing those instead. I was there at lunch time and while it was busy it wasn't packed so getting a table was easy. I really loved the ambiance of the place and the fact that they have so many interesting beers on tap/in rotation. I would definitely be interested in heading back sometime for dinner to give one (or more) of those a try!

It's a sad sad day. You know the story: you want to like the new place in town but dammit you just don't. My story: I'm from the south, nola, so don't play around with southern style food. You either have it or you don't, there's no 'meh' in southern cuisine. I was excited to try Southerleigh about two months after opening. That should be enough time to work out kinks, right? Idk. I ordered the Pan Seared Gulf Snapper atop étouffée. The name should be changed to bland fish atop a disgusting sauce. It. Was. Terrible. I tried to power through, expecting some of those $24 flavors to emerge. They didn't. What did happen is that I unscrewed the Crystal's hot sauce and doused that fish- trying to bring it back to life or something. I don't even like hot sauce so you know this was a desperate attempt at salvaging dinner. The chicharrones also were doused in the red stuff as I sought to make sense of those too. As excited as I was to see chicharrones on the menu, they too fell short of good. The three sides were interesting. Cornbread- super crumbly but good. The mac and cheese was ok, the nutmeg flavor was strange but interesting. The grits were basic. Seeking to play tour guide today, I returned hoping for the best. Flounder poboy...this is easy and should be good. Uh no. A few bites in and I was done. Sometimes you just know at first sight. The sandwich was barely assembled, fish all falling out and stuff. No pickles, barely any mayo, and not cut in half as a po boy should be (ok, that's a personal preference, but still). It was also placed on top of the mac and cheese making the entire plate a mess (see photo). Oh, the mac and cheese tasted like something so thickly cheesy that would come out of the freezer case at HEB. Big disappointment. To add a little sunshine to this review, both of my dining counterparts ate all of their food. Him, the pork chop, hers, the pot roast po boy. Maybe my southern cuisine standards are lofty, maybe my friends order better than me. Maybe I shouldn't have high expectations for 'trendy and new' places at The Pearl. Maybe you should try it for yourself and let me know what you think.

I've dined at Southerleigh's on several occasions and my opinion of this place has shifted constantly. My first visit, my partner in crime & I sat outside on a beautiful day. The weather was perfect and at the angle we sat in, the sun wasn't beating down on us. One would think this would be a great way to start a dinner. We chose to do a smorgasbord of the apps and side items (a pretzel, home made potato chips, chicken cracklins, pull apart rolls, & deviled eggs). The cracklins were sort of cold but still crispy (for the most part). The honey hot sauce was very good although the fact that our cracklins were cold, we weren't sure if that was on purpose or what. The pretzel was unwieldy and difficult to tear apart - cutting it with a knife was our only option and even then we were disappointed at just how tough the outside was. The potato chips were great as were the pull apart rolls & deviled eggs. The other part to our first visit was that our server, although very friendly, was probably a bit too friendly as she spent an inordinate amount of time talking with folks she knew which left us hanging for soda & water refills as well as our check. We also observed another couple with their baby looking around for the same server and overheard said server profusely apologizing for the wait. A separate visit seemed to have a better experience as far as server. She was also nice and accommodating but a lot more attentive. We were a little larger group doing the same idea as before (smorgasbord eating along with additional items such as dirty rice and trying all the desserts). This time around we sat inside and the cracklins were hot - a huge difference from the other visit. The dirty rice wasn't something I preferred as the liver was too overpowering for my tastes. As for the desserts, the buttered pecan crumb cake was my favorite - it was moist, delicious, and a great way to finish the dinner. My partner in crime & I have visited a few other times and although I love the location, some of the foods, and the customer service, I only wish it was all a little more consistent.

I think the ONLY think holding me back from a 5 star review is that this is a beer and wine only location. We went at 2pm on Saturday so we did not get to see the full menu, which was our fault! I really would love to see what they have in the terms of meals! I was there with my family and we ordered the burger, pretzel, chicken cracklings, chilidog, oysters on the half shell, beer flights, wine and a lot of snapper throats! Our table LOVED the snapper throats and the pretzel. I really recommend trying either of these at least once. We really enjoyed the burgers and oysters, but the chilidogs was very salty so we were not big fans of that. We also enjoyed the cracklings - such an interesting treat! I really love this location and the decor. I think the restaurant itself is so busy it is hard to keep up! So do not be surprised if the bar or kitchen is backed up and the servers show it, that's real life and a great thing for the restaurant.

I was looking to take the wife for a date night and this place really hit the spot. The wait staff was great, bringing out samples of their beer and recommending items from the menu. NOW TO THE FOOD!! The food was delicious! My wife had the red snapper with mac & cheese, and I had the top sirloin cooked to perfection. I would recommend southerleigh and will be returning to taste more of the menu.

Solid 3.5. Definitely a nice addition to the pearl. Location: In the very back of the Pearl (if you are coming from Broadway). It's in the old brewery building, and shares space with Hotel Emma. From the branding of the restaurant to the decor, everything looks pretty impeccable. It's an impressive space. It's definitely one of the best looking restaurants in SATX. Service: It's hard to say at this point. I sat at the bar. The staff was still figuring out how to use the POS system. I disagree with the other reviews re: service. The bar staff is far from friendly (maybe they are just too overwhelmed at this point). Thanks for slamming down the menu on the bar counter - "Do you want a menu?" You obviously saw me walking in and sitting down in front of you. The place's only been open for two days and how can you assume that I know what I want. It wasn't just one person. Everyone seems either too overwhelmed or unfriendly. But it's a different from pretentiousness /unfriendliness that plagues places like, um, Hot Joy. The servers here are just inattentive and just don't care. Drinks: A-Ok. You can't really expect a non-commercial brewery to do things right. The other patrons of the restaurant agreed. Your best bet is to order from the guest tap. It's still pretty boring though - Branchline, Freetail, and some other boring local ones. Nothing exotic. I think they do growlers but not listed on the menu. An average price is about 6 dollars. I'd rather take that money and go to GS1221though. Food: The food here is good. That says a lot because I always walk out of restaurants in this city upset and feeling robbed because, well, they all are mediocre at best. It's too bad that the restaurant ran out of 3-4 items from every category by the time I went in - this was at 8PM. Pretty crazy. The biggest problem about the food here is how the menu is structured. Basically, there are five different categories of food: small dishes, large dishes, sides, seafood, and desserts. The small dishes are appetizer sized and range in prices between 6 and 10 dollars. The large dishes range in prices between 25-50 dollars (sorry I don't remember the exact $). There's NOTHING that fills the gap between the small and large items. Small items are mostly bar snacks e.g. potato chips, deviled eggs, and etc. The large dishes are entree sized. You are essentially left with two options. Show up with another person and share a large dish and order appetizers. Another option is to order 2+ small items. Although the pricing is fairly reasonable for a place in the Pearl (and also accounting for the so-called "trendiness tax" that seems to drive up the prices of oh-so-cool restaurants here), it could get expensive if you decide to get multiple entrees. The dishes are fairly well executed and have nice presentations. Nothing spectacular. No depth. Just typical New American with a southern twist. Don't get me wrong. The food here is very good for San Antonio. If you are just visiting, you might leave disappointed because I expect to see nothing but five star reviews from the locals. Overall, this place has a lot of potential. It's one of the very few places in this city that I would consider returning. The bar is always set low in this city. It could be the best thing this city may offer at this ponit. But once again, it's all relative and I'm pretty sure it doesn't come close to similar restaurants in big cities where many have high expectations.

Came today for Restaurant Week lunch... If you missed it you need to cross your fingers they do it again next time! Amazing service. Wonderful greeting by charming man with lovely accent. Server was very attentive and friendly and gave excellent recommends for lunch choice and beer choices. Overall a major win. Had the pretzel to start- very good- chewy. The starter for RW was the fried snapper throat- amazing- who knew snappers had throats and who fries them?! Next course salad was nice and light. Third course for RW was the blackened tri-tip with mashed potatoes and a delightful sprinkling of edible flowers and herbs. Overall a wonderful experience and I can't wait to come back for dinner. Well done. #eatlocal #drinklocal

Pretty good beer. Pretty good food. And friendly staff. The decor is very casual and urban-rustic by keeping the historic interior intact. They brew quite a few beers in house. I had their saison which was an off-menu special available at the time. I enjoyed it a lot. Bubbly. A little fruity. A little spicy. Nice balance. There were four of us in the party. We ordered several appetizers to share and shared our entrees, too. The deviled eggs were a tasty win but annoying in that they're sold in a trio. Most parties are two or four. Just silly. The snapper throats were perfectly fried and seasoned nicely. The pretzel with beer cheese and spicy mustard was fun and a great pairing with the beers we ordered. The fried chicken was everybody's favorite. It was extra crispy the way I like yet plump and juicy. Perfect! The snapper with etouffee sauce was the low-light of the meal for me. The snapper wasn't seasoned much and the etouffee sauce was surprisingly bland as well. Certainly would recommend against this one. Like most places in the Pearl the prices are higher than seems reasonable but you should expect that walking into any establishment here.

We sat at the bar and had a flight of beers! There coconut porter was amazing! The buildings architecture is so beautiful inside. We haven't tried the food but the service at the bar wAs great!!

Any venture run by Phillipe Place gets my highest marks! When you see him at the door, you know that you are going to have a fantastic experience. I've only been twice so far, once as a guest at the soft opening and once as a drop in for dessert & beers. Both times, food was great and beers were tremendous (great house-made stout and curry beers). They have been changing the menu a bit since my first trip, but I was happy to see that the cast-iron baked apple pie topped with cheddar cheese sorbet was still on the menu- so delicious, not too sweet. I look forward to going soon to sample one of the boils.

Last night the gf and I went out to southerleigh for what was supposed to be just a drink, then we were gonna head over to cured to check out there restaurant week menu, but after grabbing a flight of 4 and sitting down and having a waiter come up and describe their menu and the restaurant week menu, we decided to stay. The 3 courses southerleigh has sound most impressive and delicious, 4 different apps, 3 different entrees, and 1 dessert. We selected the snapper throat and oven roasted beets, the sirloin slow roast and the snapper cracker crusted and fried, and the dessert was a pot d creme with chocolate chip cookie pieces. We also decided to get some deviled eggs while we waited for first course to come out. The advanced flight that we had btw was awesome and I don't really fancy myself as a brew drinker, I digress though back to the food. The deviled eggs were awesome, they were creamy, sweet and salty all at the same time, the bacon onion marmalade was perfect for me and her as we both devoured them quicker then they came. Our second courses came out just as fast as our first, I had the snapper throat and my lady had the oven roasted beets, with goat cheese and thyme. Man oh man the throats were incredible, crunchy and well seasoned on the outside and so juicy and moist inside. The beets were really good as well just not hot, the rammekin they came in was hot out of the oven and the cheese was nicely melted but the beets weren't hot... Oh well next time I suppose, on to the entrees the pan fried snapper with squash and some sort of creme sauce and the sirloin 44 which is an all organic grass fed product so we were informed. The snapper wss cooked PERFECTLY and I do mean PERFECTLY! No need for further description because it was literally perfect, but the sauce it was with however, not so much, the onions were not cooked long enough and were still super crunchy, the sauce under the snapper has no depth of flavor and the squash that accompanies the snapper was super over cooked to the point it was mush, the flavor and seasoning in it was delicious but the texture of it all was missing. The sirloin was cooked equally perfect as well, came atop a bed of mash potatoes and a bbq demi glace. Well I thought they were mash until they tasted like grits, I then had the kitchen inform my waiter and I at the same time that they stopped at9 with the mash. Unusual but ok.. The grits were really good as was the sirloin, I didn't detect a lot of rub on it, but the richness and tenderness of the meat was amazing especially mixed with all the grits and the sauce. Now, the dessert, the chocolate chip pot d creme, it came in a little mason jar and was pretty straight forward. The creme was so good and yummy in every bite that I seriously contemplated ordering another, but I'm glad I didn't because I was stuffed. All in all a very good meal from these fine folks! Unfortunately there were a couple negatives as well, the semi warm beets, the hugely overcooked squash, the lack of communication about the mash, and my biggest peeve about when waiters bring you water in the fancy pour bottles. The first is always cold, and after that they apparently just refill it and being out room temperature water. I don't understand why I have to request cold water I thought it was common sense, especially if I drank 2 bottles already?? 3 1/2 * for me(yelp needs to add 1/2s on here).Oh well san Antonio, still an amazing place to come check out, I know ill be back for seconds soon!

I was having dinner with my 11 month old and my husband. My husband ordered the grilled steak. He ate a third of the steak and he saw a small white live worm on his meat. We called the manager to look at the worm together and it was quite alive and moving at the time. The manager explained the worm came from the flower that garnished the steak. Neither I nor my husband are familiar with different type of worms and we cannot tell if the manager was lying or not. I don't think potentially swallowing a worm is a healthy thing to do. I kind of also worry because I fed some of the crab on my plate to my young baby, and my plate was also garnished with the same fresh flowers. We returned the steak of course. The manager offered us a second steak but we refused and we are pretty sure we would not be eating there again. I am very angry at the idea of potentially having fed my baby a worm. The restaurant did not charge us for the steak but charged us for everything else. We had a discussion with our server and our server was not aware of the worm incident. The manager never told the server the incident until the server asked after we told her. We paid about $67 tonight and we gave the corresponding tip to the server because she was very nice to us. The manager vaguely said we would get better treatment if we go there again. But the whole incident is pretty scary because sometimes meat is infested with worms and those worms can be pretty dangerous. And we cannot be sure where the worm came from. We won't go back anymore.

Three raw hamburgers in a row. I was leaving after the second try but the manager or who ever he was promised to make it right. But that was after he finished his 20 minute conversation at the bar while I sat there watching my wife finish her food. No dice. Then to top it off he took my raw cold hamburger off the bill, should I say thanks? nothing else to compensate for my time it took for me sit there and sample the chefs poor cooking skills.

We actually went to Southerleigh twice this weekend. We were blown away on Friday and were pleased on Saturday. The venue is a pretty awesome historical site, and the non-finished look was very cool. Tried a couple beers, their Lager and the Texas (something). The Lager was really outstanding. We enjoyed this with Chicken Cracklins, which were excellent, and one of the best Pretzels I've ever had. The house-made beef jerky was very good, too. On Saturday, we brought the kids and had a decent experience. The kids' chopped steak was phenomenal (I finished my son's and ordered one for myself). I wasn't impressed with the dirty rice (dry), the lamb (not great, especially for the money), and the roast beef (looked amazing, but was dry). Those were items I sampled from our friends that joined us. All in all, I think this is going to be an outstanding addition to the Pearl once it works out its kinks, which I think can be attributed to its recent opening. Supposedly they're going to start brewery tours upstairs in the near future.

Another fine addition to the exploding San Antonio culinary scene! Elevated southern comfort food with impeccable service. I mean really, really excellent service. That's the stand out part of the experience. Bummed they were out of mussels when I came, but happily the pot roast with herb gravy was a good substitution. My boo had the half fried chicken and friend cabbage, we split an order of pork fat pull apart rolls (4 to an order). The rolls were tender and delicious. I do wish the butter hadn't been rock hard and cold as it makes the spreading easier, and these would have been A+++++ with warm melted butter instead of a cold chunk. Pot roast was fall apart tender when touched with the fork. I swooned over the delicious little roasted onions, bigger than a Pearl onion but still delicately sized, all nestled into a warm gravy bed with red potatoes. Fried chicken was fantastic, especially after a liberal dose of the Crystal hot sauce served along side. We did the apple pie and cheddar sorbet and buttered pecan crumble cake for dessert. Both were fantastic. Tender flaky crust on the pie, soft crumb throughout the individual cake. My guy was a little unnerved by the sorbet (but he gets points for trying!) but I thought it was great. We sorta switched halfway through dessert. Plenty of pot roast to take home for what I'm sure will be delectable leftovers. We sat at the kitchen window/bar and the cooks were so friendly. They checked in about how our good was, offered friendly smiles, and seemed to really care how our experience was. Our server was so great as well. Service makes the experience, and it certainly was an impressive evening for us.

We had been looking forward to seeing where Jeff Balfour went with this concept, being longtime fans of what this talented chef is capable of. As they are less than a month old, I'm not going to judge harshly on service missteps that might otherwise annoy me at a more established place. Extra points here also, as I saw no familiar faces from other local fine dining venues, thus they don't seem to follow the established "server poaching" playbook that is not unusual in the area. It wasn't unduly crowded when we arrived and we opted to sit at the chef's bar, which I would highly recommend if available. There is also bar seating at the tap wall which is around the corner and faces the main dining area. I'm not sure what lay beyond the black curtains next to the chef's bar, but saw folks eating on the outdoor patio when we left-so multiple locations to choose from. My husband started with the imperial beer sampler which he was quite pleased with; not being much of a beer drinker myself, I wished they'd had a bit more to choose from in their BTG wines, only 2-3 whites and a couple reds available. Meiomi pinot and Sean Minor cab both great and reasonably (for a restaurant) priced. We ordered the pretzel and wood fired beets/goat cheese while looking over the rest of the menu before finally deciding on the snapper and beef cheek pie as our mains, giving the seafood entree the nod as our pick of the evening. From our vantage point we saw them plating their shrimp boil and mussels-both look promising for a repeat visit. Friendly conversation with the cooking staff, especially Tracy who gave us some tips on ordering. I really liked the high ceilings and general "distressed industrial" décor, noise level didn't preclude conversation at anytime, and their music track wasn't obtrusive either. Pricing is on par (~50 PP++) for the other local venues, perhaps offering a bit more value, definitely one to revisit soon!

I came to this restaurant because of the rave reviews and I had heard from others. At least on this occasion, the restaurant did not live up to its reputation. A group of five of us arrived just after 9:30 PM for dinner. As we requested certain drinks and plates, they were no longer available. Time after time, we had to settle for our second or third options. When it came time for dessert, they told us that they had run out of all desserts. Upon further inquiry, we were told that the kitchen was closed. It wasn't much later than 10:30 PM, and the restaurant didn't close until midnight. The red snapper main plate that I ordered was absolutely delicious. The steak that my friend had was nowhere near the way he requested it to be cooked. The whipped potatoes and other side plates we had were excellent. Our server was very nice, and when we brought these things up to the manager, she was very apologetic. Perhaps there will be another opportunity to try out this place. But there are many other top notch restaurants in the area to visit.

Went to eat for a birthday. Two adults and two kids. Everyone was happy. The roasted beets were delicious! The cracklings were top notch! The fish was gigantic. Plenty of left overs. The beer was yummy too! The boys got lots of refills of their sugary drinks. I had to say no more! But the boys were happy. We were so full but we still got dessert.

I will make this short and sweet: BEER - Awesome! ATMOSPHERE - Very Nice, although the outside is a little uninviting for being at the Pearl SERVICE - Our waitress seemed bothered and annoyed that we weren't ready to order as she hovered and swatted flies. FLY PROBLEM - A huge problem FOOD - Don't bother! All brown and very greasy! I will say the bread is really good....but it's bread. This is not a restaurant make with only bread and beer, unless the name of it is "Bread and Beer". hmmm

The fried quail looked beautiful but tasted like absolutely nothing. Seriously, It could have been plain oatmeal if I had my eyes closed. Everybody else seemed to be enjoying their food though, so maybe I just ordered wrong? Def gonna come back and order something not fried and oatmeal tasting. Oh, the beer was good.

Small menu, mostly a brewery with great tasting beer. Their menu items are very good though. Had the chicken crackling... yes.

So after going here a couple of times, I'm super impressed. Great friendly service. The crayfish are the best I've had in SA! Lots of great beer to choose from, and the deserts are awesome! There's outside seating, so you can people watch at the Pearl. Plenty of parking under the bridge, about a block away or in the parking garage.

Excellent for & service! Try the oysters, corn bread, shrimp & grits & the pecan pie!

We were invited to a beer dinner with GLI and holy hell, I'm so glad we went. We've been to the Pearl before, having feasted at neighbors Cured and La Gloria, but we hadn't gotten the chance to get out Southerleigh yet. It's amazing how much pride they have in the SABA and Pearl Brewing roots. I'm also super excited for Hotel Emma to open up. The brew dudes (I can't remember their actual title so that's what I'm calling them) and brewmaster really had a passion for brewing, Southerleigh, and the Pearl itself. They gave us a tour of the upstairs brewing operations and let us pick their brains about brewing, flavors, ingredients, etc. The brews themselves were truly craft brews. My favorite was the Belgian Wheat - crisp and more traditional. A close second was the Putin's Revenge - maybe for it's amazingly rich flavor and 14% ABV. The staff kept bringing us platters of heavenly food, making this a for sure place to check out at the Pearl (and maybe bumping Cured out of it's throne). Highlights were the snapper throats - holy hell, so good. Flaky, flavorful.I can't even describe them; you just need to go try and thank me later. Also adored the deviled eggs - which I typically hate. Bacon on top and sweet and creamy, omg. So, so, so good.

What a disappointment, such much wasted potential on this place. Service is terrible compared to other restaurants around the Pearl, food was very average. I hope you don't take this as an offense and use it as feedback for improvement for such a nice building.

"Cross-cultural cuisine" and brew house. Went for lunch with a friend. Located in the Pearl, so you know it is going to be priced on the higher end. Nice comfortable décor, very good service (friendly, knowledgeable, attentive, but not obtrusive). They were very busy by the time we finished (12:45). I had the 44 Farms Burger (2 Patties, Bacon Jam, Cheese, Pork Fat Bun) $13, and Gulf Crab Spiked Mac & Cheese $5. Very good burger, different, sloppy to eat, competes with other "gourmet" burgers that everyone seems to have on their menu now. The mac & cheese was rich, very tasty, but didn't actually see any crab meat (I guess "spiked" means flavored?), and the portion size was very skimpy. My friend had the Cornmeal Crusted Saltwater Catfish Po-Boy $12 and a side. He really liked his food. Overall, a very enjoyable dining experience and I will return to try different items on the eclectic menu (e.g., fried snapper throats). Just not a place I can afford to eat at frequently, as it is in the $20-25 range and I try to keep my lunches in the $10 to $15 range.

This was my 3rd or 4th time here and I thoroughly enjoyed my food, the bar service and the ambience like never before. Three course CW lunch was fantastic - fried snapper throat, shrimp poboy, and blackened tri-tip were spot on- hell even the salad was good. Way to up your game guys/gals.

Totally in love!!! Awesome food, once in a lifetime beer, and great food. Our server was well informed. Most wonderful experience.

I have been anxiously awaiting the opening of this restaurant. The interior did not disappoint. Industrial and yet warm and inviting. Service was incredibly slow, but I think that can be attributed to the fact that they just opened. But our server was great and very friendly. Our server recommended the beginner beer sampler and it was a great assortment to start with. The the porter, laced with the flavor of curry, was my favorite because of its uniqueness. We started off with the beer pretzel, oysters and deviled eggs. The eggs were my favorite by far. The onion marmalade really makes them. The homemade cocktail sauce that came with the oysters could use more zing. Perhaps more horseradish? My dining partners loved the mustard and beer cheese that came with the pretzel. For dinner, we ordered the mussels with frites, beef cheek pie, quail, and pot roast. None of us were disappointed with what we ordered. While the beef cheek pie was the smallest entree, it was the richest. The frites were a bit overdone and tasted a tad burned, but still good if you like some extra crunch. We enjoyed the strawberry shortcake and peanut-chocolate bar for dessert. Both very tasty and worth ordering again!

Just left Southereigh brewing company and I have to give it 5 stars. I'd give 10 if I could. I especially was impressed with our waitress (Anna) she was so sweet and very knowledgeable on EVERYTHING from the food and how it was cooked , ingredients and I swear she's in BEER BREWING college lol!! I highly recommend her if you visit this place. The food was DELICIOUS and very reasonable priced which I was shocked because the ambience led me to believe it would've been very high dollar. I had the raw oysters of course and the snapper throat which was a recommendation from Anna, and I'm so glad we did because it was so good and the Mac and cheese with crab was something so different and I will more then likely try it at home and it won't be the same so will be back for! Thank you Anna for making our date night and dinner so super! You are amazing and I'm sure will be amazing at WHATEVER you do in life. I hope you are there at Southernleigh for a while so we get to enjoy it as much as we did tonight. Thank you to the girl who gave me the last of the Mac and cheese too! You're awesome too!! DELICIOUS DELICIOUS DELICIOUS! Oh and really GOOD BEER TOO!! Thanks for the samples too made choosing easier.

So me and my lovely lady happened by this amazing establishment this evening. We had just finished dining at another local Pearl restaurant and wondered over for se after dinner drinks.... For those interested in beer this is obviously your spot. Go for the imperial flight. The Darwinian IPA is the isht Although we didn't have any intentions of eating we saw the food passing by us so we snuck a peak at the menu and WOW. Phillip the manager treated us to some delish cornbread... Took me back home to Georgia. This will soon be my go to spot. I never give 5 stars, this is more like 4.5 star. Lots of out door seating

Wow, just wow. This place was delicious . We ordered so many things as we were a large group and we wanted to try various dishes. We first started with the pretzel and fried Red snapper appetizer. The pretzel wasn't anything special but the snapper... My goodness I think I could have eaten the entire thing. It was flavorful and fried just right. We also ordered the fried chicken, Mac 'n cheese, the steak, zucchini side, corn bread and biscuits. The Mac 'n cheese is where it's at. I wanted more! It was sooo creamy and cheesy. To top it off, their beer is also delicious. They carry everything for different palettes. Service was good and it was a nice ambiance . I will definitely be returning.

I, too, really wanted to like this place. With menu items such as chicken with red eye gravy, fried chicken skin and pork belly...my hopes were high! Everything was just "okay." Basically, it was comfort food, that left us un-comforted. I feel like they don't have a good balance of seasoning and salt. The chicken skins were alright, but adding a little salt made them better. Overall, the balance of the sweet to spicy (honey to hot sauce) just wasn't there. The chicken with red eye gravy was really dry...where was the gravy? That was the main reason we ordered this dish! Our table also had the ribeye...the steak had great flavor and was perfectly cooked. The hash underneath it was pulled pork and potato and was mushy...definitely not a crisped potato hash to give texture. And it needed an acidic element to give a little punch, maybe a balsamic reduction or a vinaigrette. Everything was kind of soft and fatty. We tried all the beers via flights...they were ok. I liked the golden, summer wheat and rye the best. Service was a little lackluster. I hate when a server gets really busy and avoids eye contact when they pass your table 15 times. It's like if they don't look at you, then they won't have to acknowledge that you need something and add to their growing "to do" list. At the very least, I would expect better service to make it more of an experience. I've come to realize that in the Pearl area, you're paying for the atmosphere and (sometimes) the experience--not so much the food.

I had an early dinner here at the latest Pearl Brewery offering and was pleasantly surprised. The seafood is very fresh and the Louisiana flavor makes it all the better. The seafood bouillabaisse was excellent and the gulf snapper was on point. The decor is nice and the place has a nice vibe. I'll be back.

Overall a good experience. Very friendly & attentive staff who seem knowledgeable about the food. Food is very non-traditional, however still very tasty. Deserts were fantastic. Visually stunning interior & really interesting selection of beers. Does not have a full bar however.

Great atmosphere and family friendly. Kids menu comes with dough to make their own pretzel. Their beer is delicious and the Snapper throats are a must.

The first thing I loved about Southerleigh was the industrial--urban-chic feel of the place. Old plaster walls with partially removed paint sit behind long, comfortable leather couches. Ancient Corinthian pillars stand before the shiny copper brewing tanks visible on the 2nd level. Once I adjusted to the novelty and settled in, the special attention from the manager sold me on the service when he worked to squeeze us in before upcoming reservations, and then came over to personally answer questions I had asked of my server. My companion and I each ordered fish; but since the menu changes frequently (daily?) their names are irrelevant. They were presented beautifully, and both were about a 4-star in flavor. The chef slightly misses the mark on details such as the filet cut, or the seasonings, whereas he is right on target with regards to the other elements of the preparation. My fish, for example, was blackened and I've had better. But the sauce atop was rich, indulgent, and more than saved the dish. We both finished our entrees, but might try other options next time. The desserts alone were enough reason to re-visit. The salted peanut butter chocolate bar (or something like that) and the crumb cake were both sweetly satisfying. Take-home: Southerleigh's food and location can compete with San Antonio's best, and for the tourist, the Pearl St. Brewery area is a welcome departure from the tired Riverwalk restaurants.

If you have any question about the enthusiasm I have for this place... Read the review I have for Cured. Then exponentially. Or. Something to do with infinity. Multiply it... (I am terrible with math.) This place knocks everything in its vicinity on its ass. No lie. I am blown away by the visual concept, the service, even the history lesson I get coming to and from the bathroom (on the walls) about the Pearl area. Sitting at the kitchen is a treat as the staff are professional, courteous and a treat to watch. Sitting in the dining room is also a treat as the dining room is gorgeous and the wait staff are equally professional and courteous. The food? I told my friend to shut up while I was eating because she was ruining my experience. So that should give you and indication. I don't know who made the craklins that touched my flavor savors on May 1st but that moment changed my flavor profile for life. I don't whether or not to thank you or not. The ketchup that accompanies the fries here is house made and I could drink it. If you don't order a burger here, your life is truly devoid of the meaning of first world joy. We have orders most of the sides and all but one dessert in one meal as well. I can say that the desserts were good. And as usual needed more ice cream. The favorite was the apple pie. I liked the cheese sauce that came with the pretzel and request my pretzel rare next time with a second round of deviled eggs all to myself. Crawfish was well seasoned (but nothing compared to things further east of course) and sides wishing were seasoned as well. Not gritty. I think this place has a great concept. I'm not interested in going upstairs to look at the beer making. Or even trying to sit outside again unless it's spring or fall. I would like some whiskey but I get what you're doing. You're doing it quite well.
