Huge portions with super affordable prices. I recommend Cosmos here. So delicious!!!! I really like the atmosphere. Very modern design!

Sushi is very good but it is a shame that service is awful. It looks like waitress don't care about you. They make you wait, even when they are not doing anything else. Next time (if there is a next time) I will order to carry out.

YUM! I love me some Kumori!! Went to Kumori for the first time on lunch this week. It was fantastic. Tried two roles and the spicy edamame (sooooo good). The restaurant was quite for a Friday lunch hour, the roles were very large for the price and the fish was extremely fresh. Two roles for two people (and one of us was pregnant) and we were stuffed for hours. You HAVE to try Kumori if you haven't yet! You will love their sushi.

We ate the (3.5 stars overall) 1) Yasae Tempura (veges were a bit crunchy for my taste) 2)Yaki Soba Noodles 3) Salmon Crunch roll which I'd give a 4 star rating I'll be back for the Salmon rolls for sure The service was great, had a nice date with wife!

This is the second time I've been to this restaurant. It was very good the first time... but, I couldn't remember the name to write a review ...so I thought I'd try it again. Fortunately, I was able to recall what streets I might have driven on and while navigating I spotted Kumori. This looked like the place. I pulled in for a late lunch. As I walked up the sign in the window said "A new style of Japanese Restaurant" I was pretty sure this was it...so when I walked in and saw the the bar with the big screen TV's to my left and dining to my right... I knew this was the place. The appetizers looked great and sometimes ...I feel like a variety instead of one big roll of sushi. I ordered: Jalapeño Firecracker...amazing it was a fresh tempura fried jalapeño stuffed with crab and cream cheese. It had a spicy mayonnaise with soy sauce drizzled on the top. Black Tiger Prawns ... soooo good tempura style with a sweet/spicy mayo, green onions and togarashi pepper. Kumori Ceviche ... fresh fish with cucumber and avocado, romaine on the side ... I prefer a spicier sauces and this was a little too sweet for me and the cucumber wasn't completely shredded. Shrimp Cocktail ...grilled shichimi seasoned shrimp, served with mango habanero sauce. It was good. Soft Shell Crab... deep fried in a light corn starch served with ponzu sauce. Hey half of my review disappeared... Oh well, I'll finish it later! LOL .

Pretty darn good sushi. I'd go as far as to say that it was surprisingly good. For some reason, I wasn't expecting much when I came here with a co-worker, but the first time through, the meal was good. I went for a pair of pretty basic sushi rolls, and I was rushed so I didn't really have a chance to sit and analyze the food. But it seemed good! Next time through, I went for a meal where I could take a breather and really enjoy my food. And I did! I went for a lunch combo with several pieces of nigiri and a roll. It's usually a pretty good indicator of the quality of a place when the nigiri is tasty, and that was the case here. I WOULD like to see some more basic rolls on the menu, though. I couldn't find any basic stand-by like a kappa maki or oshinko maki, which I like to use for an indicator on how fresh their veggies are (plus, they're delicious and healthy) but what they did have was pretty good. So, yes, though they could stand to expand the menu a bit, what they do have was very good. I'll gladly check it out again.

Been here on a few occasions...the food is always fresh which is a big plus when there is fish/seafood involved. The rolls are great, chicken teriyaki was average...not quite enough sauce, but the chicken was chunks of white meat...thumbs up. The tempura shrimp/vegetables...very good, albeit a tad on the greasy side. The lack of 5 stars is due to an extremely rude server. One night the waitress was on her A game...super friendly and offered suggestions/explanations. The next time in the afternoon, the waiter was obnoxious, condescending and virtually non-existent. He corrected my SIL on the pronunciation of an item, but it turned out he had misheard her and when corrected was downright rude. Correct us, shame on us...correct you, shame on us...again? Yeah, no.

New to San Antonio and was recommended to come here. My waiter, Brandon, gave me beyond excellent service! My food was excellent and very fresh. My only issue was that I had to move away from the bar because they seem to have a terrible gnat problem. Came back a second time and the gnats were gone so I'm glad they fix the problem. Beware, the menu is HUGE. Too many choices to be honest, so I always ask the waiter or waitress for recommendations.

Had the angel roll which was pretty good. Although out of about 8 pieces, only 4 were topped with salmon and the other 4 were topped with only avocado...uncool. I love my salmon. Tried my a piece of my friend's roll which I liked even more than the Angel roll. We can't remember what it was called but it had sweet and sour sauce and peanuts on top which added an interesting flavor.

Food: their sashimi was good. Average- size portions. My hubby liked his rib-eye teppanyaki. Place: modern decor, nice ambiance and clean. Not too noisy despite the busy atmosphere on a Thursday evening . Customer service: friendly service. Our waiter was very good and very accommodating with my food requests. Checked on us several times. Don't know if it was because we were seated at the bar which is very convenient. Note: initially didn't plan to come here because of the reviews. But, see for yourself. I will be coming back.

For the second time... We called kumori for information on there happy hour and were told completely wrong information. On both occasions the manager pretty much said there is nothing we can do. "The system cuts off." We were 2 minutes after happy hour ended, even though that is not what were told when we called. I have no desire to eat at a where a manager will not attempt or even have the ability to attempt to satisfy customers.

This Kumori tastes horrible, there's not the same flavors as the other Kumori's. I've been to the one in McAllen and Brownsville and this doesn't even compare.

This is my favorite sushi restaurant in San Antonio. It's always very fresh and delish! my favorite rolls include: skinny roll, Fuji roll, Reynosa Roll, McAllen Roll and the golden dragon. I always want to try new rolls but end up with the usual ones. The earth roll was not that good. They give you plenty of sauces to add to your rolls They make really good michiladas too. The wait staff is very friendly.

Went for lunch and had the chicken teriyaki udon and crunchy spicy tuna roll. Service - 5 Udon - 5 Crunch Spicy Tuna roll - 2 The roll was a little too much rice and tempura and not enough spicy tuna or cucumber.

I called and spoke to two people who confirmed they had curry udon. I iterated that this was curry sauce udon and they said they serve it and it is delicious. I placed an order for two and drove far to get it. When I came home, I saw they had given me curry sauce over a sliced cutlet on rice. No udon whatsoever!!! I called and they said they would fix the order and it would be ready in 25 minutes. I showed up and they tried to pass off the same dish then admitted they don't serve curry udon. These people don't know Japanese food. Don't waste your time or money!!!

My first review was 3 years ago and I love this place! The staff, the food, the drinks, the atmosphere, it's all fantastic. My girlfriend and I come here every couple weeks when we have done extra money. If you're looking for delicious sushi, this is it!

This is one of the better sushi places that my wife and i have been to in San Antonio. We've been there at least 4 times within the last month on different days and times. The service is both good and consistent. We've had a range of different appetizers, sushi rolls and entrees. All have been great! If you're in the area, give them a try. We're glad we did.

Great sushi place. Fresh ingredients and food is delicious. I had the Skinny Roll, but trust me, there is nothing skinny about it! It's very filling and satisfying. I usually finish an entire roll on my own, but I had trouble fitting-in this one. If you like sweet and tangy, try it!

I hope the other locations are better than the Alamo ranch one otherwise their employees are writing the reviews. I'll give it a second chance but, well a $ 27 bland lunch for one???? Give me a break. Maybe they were having an off day.

My boyfriend has taken me here twice, and we really love this place! He comes here for lunch with his brother a lot, and he's always trying new stuff. The first time I came, I ordered the Beef Teppanyaki, it was really good! The second time I tried the Yaki-Soba Beef, it was absolutely delicious! We've also had the Rainbow Roll, which is very fresh. I would give this place five stars, however the service is pretty slow, and the second time I went the waiter forgot to bring out my food, so I waited an extra 15 minutes for him to come by so I could say that I hadn't had my food yet. Other than that, the food is really great!

Favorite place for sushi by far here in San Antonio. I love this place and haven't had a bad sushi roll yet. I usually have great service when I go in on Fridays but didnt experience the same kind of service when I went in on a Sunday. Night and day difference. The waitstaff on Sunday's are very amateur and are not very attentive. I think with time and training from the staff I normally see on Fridays could make this restaurant be a better experience for those who come in on other days with these newbies.

First time here and it was very good the ambience is so nice and comfortable, we tried the skiny roll and jalapeño roll and they were just great!!, the waiter was very helpful and nice. I tried the chicken yakimeshi but it wasnt my favorite. I tried also the vegetable tempura and it was tasty, Id rather like mushroom or green pepper than broccoli and couliflor, but it was good anyway. For sure Im coming back and try some other stuff in their very complete menu.

Stopped in for lunch today. We didn't try any sushi so can't comment on that. My wife ordered the beef teppanyaki special and I ordered yakisoba. We ordered Gyoza to start with. Miso soup was meh, my yakisoba was yuckysoba. In both our dishes, the same cubes of dry, flavorless beef, the same veggies. Only difference was mine had noodles and hers had fried rice. I couldn't eat my dish. It was just not good. Wife didn't finish hers either. Oh yeah, after asking about the Gyoza, those showed up about half way through the meal. They were tasty. Won't be back.
Ordered ceviche tonight for my wife and I. I am allergic to shellfish and asked if it contained any as the menu states fish. The server replied no. The ceviche arrived and as I am about to put a bite in my mouth my wife noticed that the ceviche is loaded with shrimp. We asked for our server and I told her the ceviche had shrimp in it and again that I am allergic. She gets close to the ceviche and states that she asked the kitchen. I stated the should be more careful especially with allergies. People with allergies could die from cross contamination. I put two bucks on the table for my tea and left. Being upset that if they were unable to secure my safety with the lacking menu knowledge I did not feel comfortable with the remaining food we ordered. Be wary if you have allergies. I won't be back because of this issue. I'm disappointed that not once were we offered to stay and have them try to make things right. Just so you know.

Service was a bit delayed for your friends who joined us but overall I had a great time and good experience. The sushi and sashimi were very good. I had the best California roll I have tried in San Antonio and they did equally well with specialty rolls. I would definitely go back.

My favorite sushi place! Staff is always friendly and helpful. Food is always great, and prices are fair. I go there all the time and I would definitely recommend it. Their lunch specials are great, and their take out is fast and efficient. I've been there at least 15 times and haven't had a bad experience yet.

Let me start by saying that I'm not a sushi snob. This may or may not be good sushi according to more pretentious I mean experienced palettes. All I can say is that I absolutely loved what I've had at Kumori and in comparison to other sushi places in town, I rank this place at the top. I've been to Kumori five times already and they've been consistently great. It doesn't look like much from the outside because it's part of a generic looking mall at Sonterra, but there's something about the quaint decor that just does it for me. Their menu is impressive. Lots of interesting rolls in there. Huge rolls from great cuts of fresh fish. Great for sharing.Their dipping sauce are a highlight, you guys! And guess what? This place is moderately priced, unlike other local sushi joints that make my wallet bleed. I'm looking at you Sushi Zushi! I tried their Nigiri plate the first time and was blown away. As far as rolls go, I've tried their Komasa, Omega, Bonga Bonga and San Francisco Rolls. They were all excellent. Their Hamachi and Sake sashimi was to die for as well. Overall, this is a great place to try. A great alternative to the already well-established and SPOILED local sushi joints that have become too damn conceited for their own good.

Every vacation we go to, we always try to find a nice Sushi Bar to go to. Since Kumori was just a block away from our Hotel, we decided to try it out and here is my review. The place seem busy (not hectic or crowded, just tables were filled) when we first walk through the door but our host was able to find a table for us in no time. We order 5 rolls and an appetizer (salmon crunch roll, rock shrimp roll, tempura calamari, Picasso roll, Mcallen roll and other rolls I can't remember). Our first rounds of sushi taste amazing with the mcallen roll being our least favorite. Sadly, this didn't feel us up, so our table decided to order another round with 2 appetizers and 2 rolls (earth roll, ocean roll, beef sashimi, and some other appetizer). Our rolls didn't come out all at once like the first round and it had some sort of wait. Luckily, our waiter would frequently update us on the wait and refill our drinks when needed. I also ordered a dessert before our rolls were set on the table. The second round of sushi was disappointing, especially the Earth Roll (which the waiter recommended). The Earth Roll was somehow salty, very salty. We end up eating every single piece to avoid wasting. We then waited quite a while for our dessert and the dessert was great but their fruit sauce was not pleasing in my opinion. I think it taste better without the sauce. Overall, I rate a 3/5 stars. The staff is great just the food is just an a-ok. I would go back just to eat the calamari and salmon crunch roll.

Great little place that almost never has a wait, great service, excellent drinks (cucumber martini, tamarind margaritas), and the food is excellent. They serve a bowl of miso soup with all meals (no charge like other restaurants), have a unique set of appetizers, and their rolls are excellent. If you want something new with a nice atmosphere, I highly recommend this place. As a bonus you can hop next door to lion and the rose for after dinner drinks.
I've come to kumori multiple times and have always had a decent experience. Food has always been satisfactory and same with the service. Returned recently for my birthday because I was craving sushi and was completely disappointed. We were seated promptly and even brought the complimentary miso soup. But after that, nothing. We were never greeted by a server although about 6 of them walked by our table. Did I mention there was only about 7 occupied tables in the entire restaurant? Anyways, after waiting about 20 more minutes we got up and left and enjoyed ourselves at a different sushi bar. Will not be returning.

I read the reviews and tried the lemon roll...OMG the best roll i have ever had! you need to eat it with the lemon soy sauce.... it was amazing... i would have given them 5 stars but their service wasn't that great and i think 2.09 for ice tea is stupid... i tried the banana tempura and wasn't too impressed either... but i think ill go here over other places just for the lemon roll

I have been to Kumori several times from the time it opened and I have yet to be disappointed by its food and service. Their menu is filled with an extensive variety of inventive rolls, all of which have been delicious so far (Lemon spring roll is still my favorite of the bunch), and for a good price. The service has always been friendly, attentive, and genuine. Ricardo, one of the managers, made sure that our dining experience was pleasant and satisfying. I will continue to visit this place and highly recommended it to those sushi lovers who are tired of the same 'ol thing around San Antonio.

The service was horrible. The waitress fought with with us because she got the order wrong. The salad was good, but the rolls were not great. The manager didn't have a clue when I brought the poor service to his attention. Then they forced dessert on us, which we didn't want.

This was my first time and it was delicious. The place was packed and service was very slow (completely understandable) but yet the food tasted so fresh. The portion was huge. I had was Spicy Tuna Roll and was full. I couldn't finish my plate. Will definitely be returning and even taking the kids.

Enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. We enjoyed a variety of tasty rolls! I love the sauces that come with the orders, especially the spicy mayo sauce! The lemon soy was wonderful too, but we didn't know what it was until we were done. It came out with our daughter's yakitori. I do wish they had light soy sauce...the regular is too salty for my taste. We will definitely go back!

Extensive menu- was impressed by the service but most importantly the food. Great for sharing. Ordered the Sake New Style Sashimi- which melts in your mouth and became an instant crave worthy dish. The Gyoza was cooked perfectly. For dinner we shared the Calamari Teppanyaki served with grilled veggies. The Bonga Bonga roll w/ the lemon soy sauce was a perfect flavor combo. Staff was knowledgeable about the menu as well. And I was impressed with the reasonable prices. Will highly recommend and look forward to sharing a meal with friends here again soon!

Two stars for "meh, I've experienced better". I understand this restaurant isn't even a year old yet, and that may be the reason for so many of its shortcomings, but I have given this sushi joint my business five times now in hopes that with months between each visit the kinks would have been worked out. . . However, nine months later this is still not the case. The selection is vast, the menu detailed and the food actually quite good... once it finally makes its way to your table. It's the service and employees that are in dire need of improvement and finesse. For starters, and I will be painfully honest here, it is apparent that none of the employees speak or understand English particularly well, if at all. It's obvious from the manager/owner (whom I've had to ask for or speak to each and every one of my five visits) that everyone he hires-- from the bar tender, to the bus boy, to the waiters, to the "sushi chefs" behind the sushi bar-- is mexican, including the manager himself. And while that is par for the course in San Antonio, I find myself wondering why on earth this is the case at a self-professed "authentic" J a p a n e s e restaurant. Why is this relevant? Because I was asked if I wanted "salsa" with my sushi roll. Yes. Salsa. Whether you are ordering at the bar, at a table or getting to-go, none of the employees are familiar with the menu, even after a near full year of operation. On my most recent visit, the restaurant was empty with the exception of two tables. I sat at the bar and the bartender looked painfully dazed and confused when I ordered the "salmon crunch roll", taking the menu I was ordering from to see what I was talking about. She asked me to repeat it, as if she had never heard of that roll before. I did so, pointing to it on the menu, and then specified very clearly "NO spicy mayo, only eel sauce", and she nodded as if she understood... 25 minutes later, this is when I was asked if I wanted any "salsa" with my roll. Confused, I replied "no, no salsa, just the eel sauce...". She returned a few minutes later with a saucer of what looked like chicken broth. Without tasting it I knew it wasn't eel sauce, so I motioned for the manager and asked him instead. He pointed to the amber-colored sauce and said "that's what we call eel sauce". After informing him that it was not, in fact, eel sauce, that eel sauce is thick, very dark and sweet-and-vineagary, he left and returned with a new saucer of-- voila-- eel sauce. This "Japanese" restaurant's manager doesn't even know the difference between eel sauce and soy sauce. 10 minutes later, my sushi rolls finally arrived and as per the usual at this place, my salmon crunch roll was covered in-- what else? spicy mayo. Rather than wait another 30 minutes for my correct roll, I let it slide. I was starving and in a hurry. The incident prior to this that resulted in a six month hiatus? Too much to even begin to type, but it involved another utterly incompetent bartender (this time, my order was to-go) who absolutely did not comprehend english, was also not familiar whatsoever with the menu, consulted other employees to clarify which rolls I was ordering (simple rolls right off the menu), who then were forced to attempt a hot mess of a mediation-type translation convention, all of which resulted in my order being wrong three consecutive times as well as my check being comped by the manger. If you patron this restaurant, be prepared to wait an exceedingly long time for your order (even when the place is deserted, can't imagine what it's like when it's packed), and for it to be wrong in one way or another. My advise? Avoid this restaurant for at least another year. If it hasn't closed by then, it has a snowball's chance in hell of actually making it.

Came in at 7 pm on a Monday night. Service is friendly and helpful enough, but despite being mostly empty (three tables, tops) it took 30 mins to get my tonkatsu and spicy tuna roll. Once it arrived my food was edible to borderline bad. Tonkatsu is usually a pan fried breaded cutlet served over rice with a dipping sauce. Some places will also throw in veggies and maybe a fried egg as well. It's usually nice, homey, a Japanese-ish version of pork chops and fixings. Here it is a pre-sliced deep fried mess of pork nuggets and plain rice. No veg. No egg. Sigh. The sauce was some sort of jarred plum stuff instead of the mirin based ones I'm used to. One redeeming point is that the pork nuggets were a visually pleasing deep golden brown. Which makes sense since they were also badly overcooked, tough, and tasteless. The spicy tuna was acceptable but they didn't put ginger and wasabi on the plate and the staff never brought it ever after requesting it. Menu looked extensive enough to please most palates, especially if you like mayo and cream cheese in your sushi rolls. The ambiance is hip though most of the patrons are not. I will probably not come here again unless it is 10 pm and I am desperate for sushi. That IS a plus, they're open late most nights.

Delish! My hubby and I joined another couple at Kumori tonight. I should start by saying I'm not a big sushi fan, but I love Japanese food. We shared some delicious apps including crab on taro chips and tempura ebi (shrimp). Everyone loved the sushi, but hubby said the godzilla roll is not that spicy. But it's all extremely fresh and tasty. Try the sauces -all are wonderful. The only downfall is slow service. If they can I'mprove that, they'll move to a five star.

I love this place! Try the Hand Granade. $2.99. A bit pricey for something so tiny, but I believe it's worth it. Plus they give you free miso soup! Yums!!

Love the variety choice in rolls. I think my impression of their level of service was much better when they first open as opposed to now. If you order togo be sure to check everything in the bag before you leave. One of my rolls was incorrect and when I called to let them know I was put on hold and hung up on twice. As extensive as their menu is you would think that the staff would be a lot more knowledgeable about the rolls and recommendations. The staff is hit or miss. I can say that their portion sizes and the quality of the rolls are tastier than Zushi Sushi. They just need to work on the service...

Sushi was...not great. Way too many Americanized rolls with cream cheese and mozzarella (the hell?) cheese in them. The rolls didn't have enough fish in them and the ingredients weren't very fresh. Lots of people seem to like this place, so I'm willing to give it another chance, but I was not impressed with the rolls. The atmosphere is nice, and they are family friendly.

I love sushi, and been having a hard time finding good sushi here in SA. I tried this place for lunch last week and was sorely disappointed. My first impression was good, nice interior and pretty busy, but that quickly faded as I stood at the hostess stand alone for a good 5 minutes while all the employees were in the back behind the bar glancing at me and looking away. Finally one of them approached and I oped to sit at the sushi bar. The sushi bar was a little strange, but I've found most of the SA sushi bars are different from what I'm used to. The bar is actually table height and I sat in a normal chair. This made it a little awkward when I would grab my lunch from the seemingly giant sushi chefs. It also made ordering a little awkward, do I tell the 2 men behind the counter what I want or wait for the waitress? After a long while of trying to catch any employee's eyes, a server finally stopped slightly annoyed and asked what I wanted. I asked if I should order through her or the sushi chef's, and she responded either. Then I looked at one of the sushi chefs who over heard this and he quickly spoke Spanish to the waitress. She looked back at me and said, "you order from me." Glad we got that straightened out! I ordered 2 rolls and had every intention of at least getting a third, but the first 2 turned me off so much I just got the check. I always start off with a spicy tuna hand roll with avocado, and then I ordered one of their specialty rolls with spicy tuna in it (can't remember the name). They serve all their rolls with 3 dipping sauces. spicy mayo, eel sauce, and some smokey (chipotle?) one. No wasabi or ginger! The hand roll was bland and needed the spicy mayo and soy. At this point I was annoyed I ordered another roll with spicy tuna. The second roll came and I was surprised to find it completely tempura fried. I double checked the menu, and overlooked the tempura part. But I tried it and the tempura was so greasy it even made the rice underneath it greasy! I was hungry so I peeled off all of the outer skin and just ate the insides. The check for 1 hand roll and 1 specialty roll....about $20! Just the hand roll was over $8. Overpriced bad food and service, no thanks. I'm still on my quest for good sushi in SA.

Truthfully, I could enjoy the Picasso roll more frequently than the once or twice a month we visit Kumori. We have a favorite server who always take time to make recommendations and make certain were enjoying our selections. It's not high end, top of the line sushi by any means, but we've never felt ill or any item, and enjoyed most of our choices. It's an unpredictable mix of young families, large groups, and couples on the weekend, and pretty quiet during the week. We say it's worth a try!

I don't get SA why is this place 3 stars and other sushi places 4 stars that shouldn't be? I do consider myself a sushi snob with high expectations and this place came close to some great places out in Cali. not as good as my go-to place in SA but if a friend invited me i wouldn't say no thanks lol. I had 2 really good rolls from their specialty selection can't remember what they were and the place was nice and clean and friendly waiters & waitresses.

The sushi here is very well made; I would rank this place above Sushi Zushi. I enjoy the atmosphere and the variety of choices. However, the service is below par, especially the hostesses which in my experience are unfriendly and not very professional. I still come back because I really enjoy their jalapeno firecracker and their Sigma Roll. Overall I will keep coming back and I would recommend it if you live in the StoneOak area.

If I could give you 1 star I would !! Service = bad! .. Our server was so slow she seem to be lazy compared to the other 2... I notice because I was a server too ! Calamari came out cold with too much cayenne.. On top of that they have us more cayenne dipping sauce. I asked for a side salad server said they don't have that so I ordered a regular salad came with crab and it was smelly ! Yuck! I couldn't wait to get my katsu curry but when it came out it looked like soup... They put so much water in it you could hardly taste it! Pork was too dry.. Only good thing is the fried rice ... Don't think we will go back here .. If you like good Japanese food this is not the place to go !

Excellent! Sushi is very top notch. service was fast. Friends of mine asked for something not on the menu and they did everything to accommodate them. I wish they had a better tea selection but overall anyone who likes sushi will enjoy this spot.

Kumori means "big menu" in Japanese or at least that is what I think. I was looking for sushi close to the church on a Saturday night and saw Kumori was well rated. We were greeted and seated quite quickly and then had complimentary miso soup. The menu is huge. So many choices, so little stomach. Like the Lemon Spring Roll recommendation. Didn't care for their spicy tuna roll; the tuna was too chopped up. I like a little fish bite. Hamachi and Escolar were good.

I'm always looking for new sushi restaurants in the area and after passing Kumori for a long time I finally decided to stop in. Upon entering, the entire restaurant smelt fishy and despite my better judgment I decided to stay. I sat at the sushi making table where the sushi artists were helpful with my selections and kept me entertained. I ordered a sampling of three rolls and the portions were a good size and easily eatable. Despite my already frowned upon smell of the restaurant and quivering over the thought of where that smell might actually be coming from my feelings weren't altered by the food which was nothing memorable. Let's just say if I ever smell a fishy restaurant again I will walk out! 24 hours later was attack of the old smelly fish as an evening was spent hovering over the porcelain thrown. The only upside to this place... I lost 3 pounds.

The sushi is pretty good but I am giving them a 4star because their customer service is not so great. It never fails to disappoint. Only reason I come back is for the food.

I've dined at Kumori probably four times, and each visit, the food is excellent. The dishes are fresh, nicely prepared, with great presentation. What *isn't* great, however, is the service. Expect slow service from a young server who isn't particularly interested in customer service; that seems to be who they hire. On our last visit, I had to motion the server over from the order station, where he was chatting with his friends, to remind him that he had forgotten one of our rolls. He wasn't impolite; his attitude was friendly, but it was obvious that he had a lot to learn in the ways of customer service. I don't know what the management hasn't done anything about this yet, as it seems to be a trend in their reviews. I gave Kumori three stars, but if you take away the fact that the food is so good, it should only get two. If it had good service, I would easily give it four stars.

I have dined here several times and loved every experience. Every roll that I have tried has need delicious. I highly recommend Kumori if you haven't been here already. I admit that being from CA has turned me into somewhat of a so-called "sushi snob," and this place really does deserve 5 stars. During or last visit, I had the Eclipse roll and the Bonga Bonga sans macadamia nuts. Fresh and delicious! I also got the shrimp tempura app (I shared all of this with my husband, by the way) and it was also fantastic. Can't wait to go back!

Went here for valentine's day dinner. No bento box type options for dinner. Sushi rolls were warm which always weirds me out. I like my sushi rolls at least a little on the cold side. Got cali roll, Maui wowee, which should not have been warm. Also the earth roll and another tempura one. Probably won't go back. Service was fine. Prices weren't great.

Incredible selection of rolls. Always fresh and tasty. I've never had a bad roll. One of my favorite perks is that they bring out dipping sauces for you (spicy mayo, some spicy sauce, and eel sauce) and a homemade lemon soy sauce. I have nothing to complain about the service, I've been here at least 10 times and it's always been a great experience. Very modern atmosphere. Clean modern bathrooms with Dyson hand driers. If you're in for a drink, try a shot of plum sake in Kirin light or sapporo. DELISH. I would eat here every day if I could.

The menu at Kumori is super extensive! There are so many roll options! But when you look at all the options they are very similar. Most of the rolls there have cream cheese so hopefully you're a fan of that. Since I'm preggo I couldn't try the sashimi, but my husband tried the salmon sashimi and wasn't impressed. He said although the fish tasted ok, the slices were so thin he felt ripped off. I do think the service is good. I also like how they give you a trio of their house sauces to dip to your delight. We'll return due to location and atmosphere, but it's not our favorite sushi joint.

Having been a super fan of the ones in McAllen I was PUMPED to visit the one here in SA. It's kind of out there for me, but I loved it. The original Valley roles are the best- the Reynosa roll and the Tampico roll not only make me homesick, but also fulfill me. Service is great- but what's with the weird decor on the wall? It kind of looks like wire boobs hanging on there. No problem for me, but a little strange. Not sure if I agree the rolls are lacking in originality- the menu is FREAKING HUGE and there's something for everyone.

Great sounding menu...Very disappointing food and service. I would compare the sushi to the pre-made sushi found in a grocery store

The wait staff are inattentive and the food on the dry side. Love the decor - they've with out question concentrated more on that than the product - really is a shame, considering the restaurant is located in a premier medical area where compromise on the taste won't be tolerated. This place has a long way to go - just hope they take note on reviews as they have done so well on location and ambiance.

I have only been here once, so I can only review based on the rolls that I had. Needless to say I can't specifically remember any of them. Which is not a good sign. The miso soup was very good, but the rolls seemed to be lacking in originality. Service was fine and the wine was good. I will probably try it one more time just to make sure I have not missed something.. maybe I'll have to check out that lemon roll!

Great dining experience! Really gives Sushi Zushi (my personal favorite sushi joint) a run for their money! It was a Friday night around 8pm when we arrived & we were seated immediately. Rolls are moderately priced but the rolls are larger & they come with a larger portion. With Japanese food I know it can difficult to be satisfied since the portions are usually very small but this wasn't the case. We even had a ton if left-overs! The food is fresh & well prepared. They have a full service bar but I was a little disappointed with the specialty drinks. It was pretty limited. The furniture was very modern, chic. Just my kind of place. Our waiter was great! He knew his sushi. We listened to his suggestions & loved everything.

Loud cavernous room with relentless deafening fast beat electronica music. Good service. Excellent food. Salmon in parchment was out of this world. Tempura curry chicken a bit too crunchy and overdone, but quite unique.

This is my new favorite sushi place its amazing! It's better and cheaper than sushi zushi! got 4 different rolls and all were awesome! Will definitely be coming a regular here!

It's hard to write a very accurate review having only tried 2 rolls but the Philly roll and the double salmon roll were pretty good. Prices seemed a little bit high but I'd go back and try more of their other rolls. They have a pretty damn big selection

This place is awesome! The rolls were very fresh! They had an appetizer called Jalapenito with fresh cubed fish and jalapeno but just the right amount so it was not overpowering. I had my usual Lemon Drop Martini and it was one of the best i've had. Good find.

The best thing about this place are the light fixtures. The rolls and sashimi were ok. The service was not good. Our waiter wasn't rude but he skipped the miso soup and never checked on us. I guess it's our own fault for going in after 9 when waiters are clearly trying to get off of work.

Kumori is an excellent addition to San Antonio and I'm proud to say its from my hometown of McAllen. The rolls are reasonably priced for San Antonio and the menu is extensive and offers something for everyone. The meal begins with a small cup of soup. Try the spicy edema-me and crab salad for appetizers and don't forget the delicious cucumber martinis rimmed with chile-lime salt. As for rolls the Fiji and Kalypso are fantastic, they also have sashimi, negiri, teppanyaki and bowl dishes. The wait staff is attentive and will help you pick a roll or bring you any special sauces you want they carry a delish lemon soy. What's not to love! Kumori will definitely satisfy your taste buds.

I have been told that San Antonio does not do sushi very well. The only place I have been to before was Sushi Zushi. I was looking for something more basic and affordable with less of a "chain" feel. Boy, I really didn't do my homework. When I arrived and saw the snazzy interior, I had a bad feeling. I ignored it and made a big mistake. I think I had to give it one star in order to post the review. This place is beyond awful and overpriced. Kumori seems to have invested a lot of money on its interior and not enough on the quality of its food or its kitchen training. This is a perfect example of style over substance. The menu is overwhelmingly long and poorly organized. For a menu that extensive, it would be more helpful if the items were organized by type of fish rather than names that don't add to the description (so all the salmon rolls are in one section, the tuna rolls are in another section, etc.). Our experience was so flawed that I have to provide a play-by-play: Appetizer: rock shrimp tempura - not bad but would have been better if the spicy mayo were drizzled over it or served on the side, rather being tossed with it. It made for a soggy dish. Sashimi Mixed: my friend ordered this and commented that it was not fresh. My husband and I tried small pieces, and we both thought they were fishy. Beef Yaki-Soba - the wok was not hot enough when they stir-fried it. It was missing flavor and char. The beef tasted boiled as well. When our server took our order, she asked us how we like our beef, so we said medium. It was cooked well-done (with no sear whatsoever). What was the point of asking? Rolls: first of all, it took me ten minutes to figure out what I wanted because everything either has mayo, cream cheese, mozzarella or a deep-fried element in it (WTF?). Even when I found a combination roll that I thought I would enjoy, it had something that I didn't like in it, so I had to keep looking. We finally settled on: Simple Roll: salmon, spicy crab. This read "crab" not kanikama. We got imitation crab in our rolls which I hate. Why differentiate it on the menu when you're going to put imitation crab in everything? This roll was also missing NORI. Huh? Hamachi Crunch Roll: I was expecting the tempura crumbs to be elegantly tucked into these rolls, but what came out was an inordinate amount of tempura crumbs, tossed into sauce, making them soggy, mounded on top of the rolls. I had to dig through/push all the crumbs off to find my rolls. Crunchy Spicy Tuna Roll: this has a similar description as the above Hamachi Crunch Roll, but rather than being hidden in an avalanche of tempura crumbs, this was prepared and deep-fried. Utterly confusing descriptions. This was probably the only remotely edible roll. Philadelphia Roll: my friend ordered this. There had more cream cheese in it than salmon. She said it was missing avocado, but I re-read it and it doesn't come with it, so I'll discount this. With all the above rolls, the actual amount of fish inside them was diminutive, with freshness and quality being hidden by fancy sauces, mayo and crumbs. To make it worse, the rice was dry, so either it was not cooked with enough water, not tossed with enough vinegar or wasn't even sushi rice at all--maybe jasmine? There was no structural integrity in this rolls--every time I picked them up with my chopsticks, they fell apart before I could put them on my plate. I realized that for one of them, the Simple Roll, it could be that they forgot the seaweed! For the others, I'm sure it had a lot to do with the dry rice. Oh, and with all the sushi rolls, each plate was missing the pickled ginger and wasabi. You're a sushi restaurant--how do you forget that?! The server gave us a tiny little dish when we asked her (enough for one person). My friend's sashimi mix had a miniscule amount of wasabi, so I didn't use any of hers when I tried a piece of her dish. Again, WTF? There are so many things wrong with this place and what is astounding is that it was pretty crowded. To add insult to injury, this place was not cheap--about $30 a person. If you have trouble finding good sushi in this city I guess just go to Sushi Zushi. Their combinations make a little more sense and their rolls were better. My search continues.

Probably one of the most disappointing sushi joints I've ever been to. And I've been to many. The decor is nice, the ambience is nice. But the food is godawful. Ok wait, no, my son's chicken yakitori from the kid's menu was pretty good. My husband and I ordered up so we could get a feel for the place - we're always on the hunt for great sushi, though I think sushi zushi is going to be the spot for this city. We got three different maki rolls, both spicy tuna and spicy salmon rolls, shrimp tempura, and the tuna salad, which was like tuna sashimi on a bed of vinegary cucumber salad. We each took one bite of the tuna salad and couldn't eat the rest. The tuna in both the spicy tuna roll and one of the maki rolls we got was absolutely disgusting. The fish was so bad it was like grainy and falling apart, with nothing even reminiscent of actual fish. We also got the Maui Wowie roll, which had what they differentiated as "sushi grade" tuna on the top, but not only were the pieces of tuna super thin and tiny, but THAT tuna was also terrible. Different from the other tuna in the other rolls, but still, really bad. The hamachi crunch roll was alright, but with all that fried stuff on there and super strong teriyaki'ish unagi sauce, you couldn't really taste anything else. I can definitely see why there's all this strong sauce in all of their maki rolls on the menu and cream cheese in probably 75% of them - it masks bad fish! Anyway, the one thing that is really unforgivable at a sushi joint is bad fish that isn't fresh. I don't think we've ever been to a sushi place that charged us $10-15 for rolls, which isn't cheap, that had such bad fish. It is a little offensive to me that they are getting away with serving such terrible quality fish and masking it with strong sauces and mayo. To top it off, the waitresses were super rude and would quite literally almost throw plates onto the table. That was surprising for such a upscale-seeming restaurant. Will definitely not go back. Would not recommend, and are actually kind of surprised we weren't violently ill immediately thereafter. For the same price, go to Sushi Zushi and get good fish.

I've been on yelp for ages but primarily to rely on the experienced community to find great places to eat and discover not so popular gems as well. By far the worst experience I've ever had was this sushi place on east sonterra. The decor is modern but the service was absolutely terrible. Immediately we were greeted and sent to a table in the corner. We were given free complimentary miso soup that was cold. We were told a waiter would come and take our order but no one came to take our order or drinks for over 20 minutes. Waitstaff walked by our desk several times and no one bothered to check on us not even noticing to see that we had empty miso soup bowls and no drinks. The restaurant was probably at 30% capacity so that was no excuse for no service. We walked out, told the hostess why we were leaving and she just had this shock blank look on her face. She did not apologize nor give us any reason or discount to stay. I wish I could at least compliment on the food but just wanted to let everyone here know their service is lacking.

My wife and I felt like having Sushi Sunday night. We saw Kumori's billboard on 281 and thought it would be good to try. The reviews on yelp were so-so, but we're open minded. The place was busy, but there were open tables and no wait to get a seat. We were seated and sat there for over 10 minutes, looking around. They have great decor. Finally, a bus boy who we saw cleaning tables offered us soup and brought it out. He was the man. But I really wanted something to wash it down with, and was quite thirsty. We never had a waiter or waitress come to the table. We were never asked what we'd like to drink. With a drink and miso soup, I could have waited a while to order. But, we were never approached, so after a little bit more time, we left, never having tried the miso soup. I could understand if they were slammed and someone at least stopped by to say they'd be with us in a minute, but it was like we were invisible. The waitress was busily working the party of 8 next to us and a table of two adjacent to us, but didn't bother to even look our direction. Perhaps if Management trains their wait staff better on how to multi-task and take care of multiple tables at once, we may venture back.

(4)Vivian N.

(1)Fabiola L.
This Kumori tastes horrible, there's not the same flavors as the other Kumori's. I've been to the one in McAllen and Brownsville and this doesn't even compare.
(1)Liz L.
Staff is super friendly and very attentive. Great option of rolls. The simple roll and golden roll were very good. I wouldn't reorder the miso soup.
(4)David G.
As always...tasty. Angel roll a must. Veggie roll-bonsai well crafted. Great ambiance with appropriate music and lighting. Love this place!!!
(5)Rubi G.
(5)Jinny K.
Went for lunch and had the chicken teriyaki udon and crunchy spicy tuna roll. Service - 5 Udon - 5 Crunch Spicy Tuna roll - 2 The roll was a little too much rice and tempura and not enough spicy tuna or cucumber.
(4)Mary Ann L.

(5)Analgia Massage T.
(4)Cynthia S.
(4)Jennifer G.
I hope the other locations are better than the Alamo ranch one otherwise their employees are writing the reviews. I'll give it a second chance but, well a $ 27 bland lunch for one???? Give me a break. Maybe they were having an off day.
(1)Alyssa M.
(4)Lauren W.
Really great fresh sushi. The golden dragon roll was excellent! We also really enjoyed the spicy edamame. Highly recommend Kumori!
(5)Devin W.
(4)Raul H.
(4)Bill R.

When I think of McAllen, Texas, my thoughts do not directly go towards sushi. Yet, this small Texas chain does many things pretty well, though not authentically. On previous occasions, the restaurant has been mostly empty; however, on a recent Saturday, there was a 30 minute wait for a table. There were quite a number of families dining, as well as some club kids getting ready for a night on the town. The service, while friendly, is rather slow. The drink menu consists mostly of sweet cocktails- I ordered a plain martini with a lemon twist (they had no lemons so olive was substituted). No beers are on tap, but they have a decent selection of domestics and imports. The bulk of the menu focuses on maki rolls- many of which are made with cream cheese. Personally, the only time I think that cream cheese belongs with fish is on a bagel. I solely come to this restaurant for one dish- Pork Katsu Curry. The fried cutlet is served over rice and topped with a Japanese curry. It is a favorite dish that I cannot find on any other San Antonio menu. It may not be as delicious as some of the other places I have had it while traveling, but it satisfies my craving. It is the perfect dish for cold weather. Our appetizers (shumai and squid salad) did not arrive until after our entrées. The shumai could have been previously frozen and the squid salad looked identical to many other local Japanese restaurants. Groomers, perhaps? I definitely prefer other restaurants for sushi, but when it comes to Katsu Curry, Kumori is my only one.
(3)Jay S.
(1)Katherine T.
Service was a bit delayed for your friends who joined us but overall I had a great time and good experience. The sushi and sashimi were very good. I had the best California roll I have tried in San Antonio and they did equally well with specialty rolls. I would definitely go back.
(4)Breanna S.

My first thought upon entering this restaurant was that it had the same décor and ambiance as Sushi Zushi: dark and somewhat minimalist, upscale and elegant. I will say that I really liked the wood tables, rose gold light fixtures over the bar area, and round glass bowl-type items mounted on the walls. Very well decorated. But would the sushi be up to standards as well? When I first heard this chain was originally from the Rio Grande Valley, I had my doubts. Was immediately seated in the middle of the room, with my pick of sitting on a couch or a chair. I opted for comfort and sat on the couch side of the table. Was immediately served a miso soup and got my water, and a tray with three bowls of sauces was placed in front of me. This was about to get exciting. Asked my polite but impersonal waitress for roll recommendations, but ultimately ordered what I'd planned to from their online menu- the McAllen roll and the lemon spring roll. Both ended up being good choices- I especially like that for the price, each roll had ten pieces. They weren't enormous pieces, they were bite-size pieces, but I liked that it felt like the roll itself was a more substantial amount of food. For those complaining that "everything on the menu has cream cheese", please note that though that seems to be true, the sushi chefs are very light with the CC , unlike many SA sushi establishments where others can be rather heavy-handed with that particular ingredient. Ultimately, the McAllen roll was the one I favored, though both were fresh and again, larger than I'd expected. I took turns dipping pieces in the three aforementioned sauces placed on the table- one was spicy mayo, the other seemed to be eel sauce, but the third was a spicy red sauce that was not sriarcha. The lemon spring roll was also good but I was less enthusiastic about it- the flavors all seemed to blend together a little too well; nothing really stood out. I've heard mixed reviews from people who love the roll, in particular for the sweet sauce that tops it, and others who prefer the roll without the sauce altogether. Regardless, it certainly wasn't bad. Service was polite and impersonal, as I said. Considering the amount of other diners present, the food came out surprisingly quick. The miso soup is included in the dinner, but I would not pay the $2 listed on the menu for it- it was a bowl of broth with two or three scant pieces of scallion. Fine for free but not if I were going to order it, though maybe they punch those bowls up with some tofu and mushrooms. Will definitely have to come back- for one thing, I found out I'd just missed happy hour, with good drink and appetizer pricing. Next visit I'll be trying the Nolana and Earth rolls!

(2)Adrienne S.
This was my first time and it was delicious. The place was packed and service was very slow (completely understandable) but yet the food tasted so fresh. The portion was huge. I had was Spicy Tuna Roll and was full. I couldn't finish my plate. Will definitely be returning and even taking the kids.
(4)Donna H.
(4)Juliana P.

(4)Melissa H.
I love this place! Try the Hand Granade. $2.99. A bit pricey for something so tiny, but I believe it's worth it. Plus they give you free miso soup! Yums!!
(5)Tiffiney W.
(3)lauren m.

Excellent sushi restaurant. Pretty traditional and delicious sushi and fantastic service.
(4)Madison W.
(4)Didier C.
(4)Kaytee T.
(1)Di R.
Service was good, food was good, prices were reasonable. All around a good experience. But please management, tell your hostess not to chew gum. It is disgusting
(4)Nathanael R.
Amazing! Try the kani sunomono, fried spinach and any if the tempura rolls (my favorite is the Fuji Roll).
(5)Isaac W.
Excellent! Sushi is very top notch. service was fast. Friends of mine asked for something not on the menu and they did everything to accommodate them. I wish they had a better tea selection but overall anyone who likes sushi will enjoy this spot.
(4)Dave H.
(4)Rachael F.
mediocre at best!
(2)Brittany M.
(1)America T.
The sushi is pretty good but I am giving them a 4star because their customer service is not so great. It never fails to disappoint. Only reason I come back is for the food.
(4)Darren A.
(3)Torie L.
(5)Matthew O.
(1)Eveas M.
(5)Kim C.
(3)Tricia N.
(4)Carolina O.
Great sounding menu...Very disappointing food and service. I would compare the sushi to the pre-made sushi found in a grocery store
(1)Steve S.
(2)Shianne K.
(2)Melanie M.
(5)PAT M.
Loud cavernous room with relentless deafening fast beat electronica music. Good service. Excellent food. Salmon in parchment was out of this world. Tempura curry chicken a bit too crunchy and overdone, but quite unique.
(4)Lacey M.
This is my new favorite sushi place its amazing! It's better and cheaper than sushi zushi! got 4 different rolls and all were awesome! Will definitely be coming a regular here!
(5)Brandon E.
It's hard to write a very accurate review having only tried 2 rolls but the Philly roll and the double salmon roll were pretty good. Prices seemed a little bit high but I'd go back and try more of their other rolls. They have a pretty damn big selection
(4)Christine N.
This place is awesome! The rolls were very fresh! They had an appetizer called Jalapenito with fresh cubed fish and jalapeno but just the right amount so it was not overpowering. I had my usual Lemon Drop Martini and it was one of the best i've had. Good find.
(5)Laura V.
The best thing about this place are the light fixtures. The rolls and sashimi were ok. The service was not good. Our waiter wasn't rude but he skipped the miso soup and never checked on us. I guess it's our own fault for going in after 9 when waiters are clearly trying to get off of work.
(2)Denice R.
(5)Rosemary N.
