Each time I go to Babes I try to believe the previous "BAD" time was just a off day. Well, I'm done. Everyone that rates the basic salad, average gravy, boring cream corn and greasy (usually overcooked) fried chicken as 4 stars must be there for rattle snake eggs and beer. Over priced offerings and lack of quality, I can't even say that I even enjoy the rustic loud atmosphere. Sorry, but rating Babes any higher would be like saying tartar sauce made out of Miracle whip and pickle relish is a "To Die For" delicacy.

It's fried chicken! Heavens it's good like 5 star good. Great catfish and biscuits with honey will make you fat, but totally worth it. I usually round my biscuits count to 8. 9 would be too much but 8 is just prefect. I passed on the salad. Rumor has it the salad is also good although it doesn't look fancy. If you're going to Babe's then hit me up. I may end up as your dinner guest.

I have never been to this part of town before, and it was quite interesting. Anywaaaays, the atmosphere had a nice, southern (?) feel to it. Our waitress was a really nice and upbeat person and service was great! My family ordered the chicken fried steak and fried chicken (only 2 things in the menu) which came with salad, biscuits, mash potatoes, gravy, and DELICIOUS corn. The chicken fried steak didn't wow me, and it was good, but I rather order the fried chicken. The fried chicken was seasoned well enough that I don't meed ketchup and it was DELICIOUS!

What is not to like about Babe's? Some would say the long wait, some would say that it is BYOB, some would say that it is a bit of a drive, and some would say that the chairs are uncomfortable. Do any of these things detract from the unforgettable taste of Babe's fried chicken? NO. For something around $12, you can get unlimited fried chicken or chicken fried steak the size of your chair, plus unlimited sides of salad, mashed potatoes, corn, and biscuits. While the sides certainly are delicious, don't waste valuable space in your belly on these, especially the salad - let's not pretend when we go to Babe's we are going to be "healthy." Once you take your first bite of the chicken, you will regret eating anything else that day. The fried chicken is so delicious that words cannot describe the crispy, crunchy, juicy, salty, fried goodness only served at Babe's. When you go to Babe's, expect to wait a while for a table so bring a cooler full of beers to sit on and drink on the patio while you wait.

I live in Los Angeles. Babe's is in Roanoke, Texas. I am flying in to eat this chicken. So what does that tell you?

I love Babe's Chicken! I came here with some friends while visiting for a few days, and they raved about it too. We got there a little early, so they told us to come back in twenty minutes. They still weren't technically "open" when we got back but they seated us and warned us that the server would take a while since her shift didn't start for another ten minutes. We were fine with it, but then the owner came and took our drink orders anyway. So, fantastic service. We got a chicken order to share. Four pieces of chicken, refillable mashed potatoes with gravy, refillable creamed corn and refillable salad. Also biscuits to die for. They were very prompt in getting the refills we wanted especially since it was a little slow that day. Also, the music is pretty varied-- we heard Japanese Enka the day we were there and that just made me smile. Anyway, delicious food, greats service. If I lived in Texas, I'd be there at least once a month. Unfortunately, with where I'm from it'd be a bit of a drive.

If you limit yourself to fried food once a year, put this place at the top of your list. Service is always friendly, food is awesome and you can easily stuff yourself like there's no tomorrow. There's no major thinking about what you're going to eat with only two choices (fried chicken or chicken fried steak) and plenty of all-you-can-eat sides that keep coming as long as you're willing. It's a great place to take your out-of-town guests who are looking for something "Texan". My best advice is get there early and go hungry. Enjoy!!!

This is EXACTLY the place I was hoping to go to during my trip to Texas. Totally down home food, friendly people, non-pretentious, and only two things on the menu: 1) chicken fried steak or 2) fried chicken. There is literally nothing else in this town besides two other stores and it's in the middle of nowhere, but I love, love, love it. The waitresses are SO friendly and not at all in your face -- they just want to make sure you're having a good time and enjoy your food. The food is awesome. We both had the fried chicken and almost died, it was SO good. The creamed corn, biscuits with honey and butter, the mashed potatoes and gravy --- all if it is just so fantastic. I could kick myself for not getting one of their t-shirts or a jar of their honey. And for $10 per person -- you can't go wrong!

Overall: After reading SO many glowing reviews, I absolutely had to try this place out. Babe's is located in downtown Roanoke. Now for those of you who have no idea where Roanoke is, it's halfway between Denton and Ft. Worth. A nice, developing, quiet area. Unfortunately, there is a fair amount of construction going on as the town continues to expand. Yet, all the slalom driving is worth the effort. Food: Fried Chicken or Chicken Fried Steak. That's it. Served with a heaping of sides, this place is the EPITOME of fried chicken. Babe's is like Wagyu or Kobe beef while KFC is discount store meat. The food is delicious but very greasy. Go here if you know you deserve a treat. Ambiance: From the outside, the place looked closed. I almost turned around, but the inside is decorated like an old-country style barn with picnic tables. Good stuff. Service: Very sweet and pretty waitress who serve you with a smile and a charming southern twang. A great compliment to a great meal. Cost: 10.99 for all platters, no kids meals. You get 4 pieces of chicken for the price, which isn't too bad.

It's not all that anymore. Chicken isn't crispy. Chicken fried steak is WAY TOO THIN with an inch of crust. For the money I would rather go to Cotton Patch with their wider variety and it is closer to my house. Besides, Cotton Patch sells beer and wine.

Always a great experience when I come here. Food is a great and reasonably priced, with the sweet corn being my wife and my favorite. Never had bad service either and the atmosphere is always welcoming and friendly. The only con is this place is so good and popular that there is often a decent wait to be seated. Even so, it is definitely recommended.

Best fried chicken I have ever had. Sides are okay. Pricey for the quality of food and service.

Heard about this place from a Realtor as I was telling him I was new to Texas. He told me that this was the first place I had to try. Finally got around to this neck of the woods (during the weekday) and got right in. What can I say, this place is just fabulous. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because I have only my Great Grandmother's Southern Fried Chicken to compare it to, and her's was the best but this was a close second. No need to upload more photos, the food looks just like the ones in the pictures already there.

Minus One Star For Not Letting Me Take Home My Leftovers! I've lived in the DFW area for over 6 years now and until last week I had never been to Babe's. My former employer used to have Babe's cater for office meetings so I had tasted their food before, this was just the first time I had ever been inside. I was surprised by the people dancing on the chairs and the loud music. I ordered the chicken fried steak as did my friend and her aunt ordered the fried chicken. The steak was yummy. The cream corn was eye-rolling. The mashed taters were ok. And I have to admit, I prefer brown gravy on both my chicken fried steak & taters than I do the cream gravy that we had here. The biscuit was very good and this is a rarity for me considering I am not much of a bread person at all. I think it was the honey. I do not like places that don't let you take the your leftovers home. I realize when stuff is brought out family style that people will ask for seconds and then take most of it home... but not allowing people to take the little leftovers we had from the FIRST round... is just flat out wasteful. I don't believe in wasting food and the few spoonfuls of the cream corn and mashed taters that we didn't finish just ended up in Babe's trash can. That makes me sad (and MAD) About the time we finished, we ordered another order of the fried chicken to go for our friend who got stuck at work late. Then my friend's aunt asked for two jars of honey to go. Once I saw the size of the jar (about two "bears" worth) and that they were only $5.99 a jar... I had to get one too. I think if I come back here.. I will have my big purse and tupperware ready for the end of the meal.

Go early, go often. I kick myself when I visit my sister in Keller and we don't go here. We went once about a month or so ago, dying to get back. Two options? It works for them when you have such a good product. The lines out the door prove it. Bring friends here, just go early.

ummm...are you kidding me?! I can't believe this place doesn't have a solid 5 stars. Hands down - The Best Fried Chicken on the planet! Not only that, great creamed corn, mashed potatoes and biscuits to die for. Unbelievable dinner worth every calorie. Babe's is an absolute must for out of town guests. Don't forget to bring some beer for your wait.

Top 10 places on my "fat food" list. However...it's so good and I love my cheat days when I get to pig out like all the other fatties that show up on a daily basis.

I don't really like fried food, but this place is YUMMY! It's family style, and the fixins were really good: creamed corn, mashed potatoes, salad, and flaky biscuits. :) The fried chicken was just right-- not too greasy, not too salty! I'm a fan!

  • Denise M.

Good chicken awesome sides but I was a little let down that the mashed potatoes were instant mashed potatoes my hopes is they will start to offer chicken fried chicken and chicken fingers here soon

  • Jennifer H.

Service there is excellent . I will have to admit for the price , amount and quality of food that is the best chicken place around . It was the juiciest fried chicken I ever had and had some of the crispest skin I have ever ate. The mash potatoes were excellent along with the sweet corn. The biscuits were extremely fresh fluffy and tasty. They only con were the salad , which is basically iceberg lettuce and a very sweet Dressing and also the do not serve coke. Would definitely come back again.

Been coming to babes for years the cream corn has gone down hill. It used to be more home style and creamier. Other than that, everything is great.

  • Neal P.

This is the original Babe's and it's the best. You can only get fried chicken or chicken fried steak at this location. Haven't ever met anyone that left this place disappointed. The servers here have always been courteous and friendly. If you like fried chicken this is as good as it gets.

  • Terry H.

I normally like babes. Today we were told 5 minutes to get a seat and after 15 we walked across the street and had Mexican. I don't mind waiting for a table but don't lie to me. It was 2 o'clock on a Saturday and they were not that busy.

    (1)
  • Kerry N.

Fried chicken and biscuits... the best of both! The salad is just iceberg lettuce with some super sweet dressing. The potatoes are instant; for real, ask them. However, they taste fine to me... my husband is the potato expert. ;)

Pros: + Delicious fried chicken and lots of yummy sides + Love the biscuits mmmmm + Huge portions - lots of leftovers - all you can eat + BYOB + Out in the middle of nowhere - making it an "event" to go out there for dinner - and totally worth the drive! + Great for groups Cons: - If you don't mind waiting, there is often a 1 to 1.5 hour wait - Oh, and not to mention the large amount of calories you'll enjoy along with your delicious finger lickin' chicken and biscuits! BUT well worth it once-in-a-blue-moon!

I took my dad here before the truck race in November. It was packed because it's nascar weekend, but it was still delicious. Our waitress was really sweet and the food was delicious and WAY too much food as always. If you are in the area and you want some amazing fried chicken this is your place!

  • Callie S.

I have nothing bad to say about Babe's. It's simple- fried chicken or chicken fried steak. Big family sides, BYOB. Everything is super super delish. The atmopshere is great. They play oldies and have a big jukebox you can make requests at in the back. You will probably wait if it's dinner on the weekend. Just bring your booze and drink while you wait. The bathroom is a little hard to find though...

    (5)
  • Jill K.

Food is excellent! I like that it's byob and my kids always have fun trying to find the bathroom door. Overall, it's a really neat place.

Way too much salt on that chicken! YUK. What's with all the carbs, sugar salad, sugar corn and instant want-to-be potatoes. Boring food.

Babe's is great if you like to eat a LOT of good (but certainly not good-for-you) food. You can get either all-you-can eat fried chicken and sides or chicken fried steak w/ gravy and sides. The chicken and sides are served family-style, meaning they're in bowls for you and your friends to share. The chicken itself is solid, good, homestyle fried chicken. I don't think it's a miracle or anything like most people seem to think. This also goes for the chicken fried steak. Both are good but they didn't make me sing for joy or anything. You can put either syrup or molasses in case you think fried chicken needs a sugar coating (it is really good). The sides are also really good, cream corn, wedge salad with some kind of delicious dressing, biscuits, and mashed potatoes. Atmosphere is like a country picnic in a barn with AC, which sounds like a good time to me but if you're a little on the prissy side you might skip out (also you're sharing bowls and eating fried chicken, so you know). (sorry couldn't find a nicer way to say that) There are a couple of downsides to Babe's: If you aren't a big eater it's not worth the $11+ that it costs. That's just a heck of a lot for fried chicken, but since it's a buffet the price makes sense (especially a buffet here in Texas) Also, it is also very crowded usually, lines and all. You'll need to go at a slight off-time to get to sit down.

I love our small little town and Babe's is one of the best restaurants we have. I love the old building and the inside is so cute with all its mixed decor. Most of all the food is always wonderful. I personally could eat mounds of the mashed potatoes and gravy alone but the chicken is to die for!

  • Govnor H.

Great down home cooking with only two choices, Fried Chicken or Chicken fried steak. I had the chicken last time and it is crispy and was perfect. The chicken fried steak is one of the best in town. Best mashed potatoes and gravy around. The creamed corn is awesome. You also get unlimited sides if you want more. They bring a salad out first, which is pretty much iceberg lettuce, but I really like the dressing they put on it. Somehow it works with just lettuce. Be warned, there is ALWAYS a wait, but they get you in pretty fast most of the time and the food comes out quick. It's worth the wait. Service has always been good.

  • Matt H.

This place was recommended to me by a fellow worker that used to live here. As many others have expressed, the food is excellent. However their service is bad bordering on terrible. Oh...I almost forgot, eat fast unless you enjoy yodeling cowboy music.

Chicken Fried Steak, or CFS as it is also known, is a prized Texas institution. After learning about the closing of Massey's in Fort Worth, I headed up here simply because I've heard that this place served the best CFS in Fort Worth. The place was decorated with mismatched chairs various random decorations, and even hidden bathrooms, but these features only serve to add to the appeal of this restaurant as the waitress will hand you a paper detailing the facts of the restaurant from the rooster sign outside to the random chairs inside. Anyways, the menu is plain and simple; you choose between either the chicken fried steak or fried chicken with both being served with side dishes, albeit an unlimited amount of trimmings. I opted for the chicken fried steak and my waitress was very happy to oblige my request. I was served a salad to start off with and, after I finished, was offered a second serving. I declined the offer, waiting for the main course. THe main course was a big helping of chicken fried steak served with creamy corn, mashed potatoes, biscuits, and of course, gravy. I loved the fact that they provided honey with the biscuits. I didn't care too much about the corn simply because I'm not a big fan of corn in the first place. THe mashed potatoes were great with the a generous portion of gravy and the chicken fried steak AND gravy was just wonderful. It doesn't get any better than this. They cook the CFS very well. A word of advice: be sure to go here hungry as the sides are unlimited servings.

The family style concept is great. Really busy on Wednesday, so prepare to wait. Chicken fried steak is awesome.

  • Tommy H.

Currently there is a lot of road work going in immediately around the restaurant. Combined with the very limited menu in comparison to other Babe's locations, I'd recommend you go to their Carrollton or Sanger restaurant instead. Despite these conditions, there was still a significant wait and people lined up to bake under the Texas sun. The food is exactly what everyone is saying: delicious. I had the chicken fried steak with a group of friends. The CFS was huge, well-seasoned and tender and the cream gravy wasn't out of a box mix. The home cooked sides were plentiful and the fresh biscuits slathered with real butter are a nice treat with honey.

Went to dinner there with some friends from Keller, menu is simple Fried Chicken, Biscuits, Corn and mashed potatoes, chicken fried steak, the chicken was amazing, service was great! Best Chicken I have ever had, Babe's Chicken Dinner House you need to come out to Orange County, San Clemente area would be better, looking forward to eating there again next time I'm in Keller.

  • Carolyn B.

I took 11 people (3 generations) there for lunch and got mixed reviews. Some thought it was terrific, some thought it was average. I think it is a fun place to go to find good enough food, good atmosphere and a reasonable price. The sides are good, especially the corn. And there is always food to take home. The place was crowded and the service was excellent. It is a friendly, fun place for a chicken dinner. It is not so noisy during the day, but the noise at night makes it fun. If you want a fried chicken dinner, this is the place to go. A wait can be expected unless you do like we did, and got there early.

LOVE Babes!! always take fam who's visiting to Babes for some solid fried chicken! there are only two things on the menu at this Roanoke location but it's so good- who cares! LOVE

Babe's is amazing! We went on a Thursday night and it wasn't nearly as crowded as on the weekend. Just moved to Texas and happy to know there is a Southern joint to get great fried chicken/chicken fried steak and all the fixin's! Babe's is definitely on my list of go-to restaurants. :) I was tickled pink with finding the bathrooms. Hilarious!

Best chicken I've had in the DFW area. The sides are super good; especially the creamed corn. I have to fight hard not to eat too much before the chicken comes out. Portions are huge so I usually end up taking leftovers home. Great place to go with small groups.

    (5)
  • Mary C.

A must try for all DFW folks. Definitely save up your calories before you go though because it is a salad with dressing on the side type place, it is a fried chicken, homemade biscuits, gravy, creamed corn type of place. If any visiting friends that come in town happen to be sumo wrestlers or offensive lineman, I recommend Babe's in Roanoke huge portions and they are not using Cooking Light magazine. (But it is tasty, especially the biscuits)

  • Chris C.

As promised in my past review, I was back with my booze last month and had great service and food once again. A great place especially for a large party.

Working in DFW for the weekend & wanted to meet up with some local friends for dinner. They picked this spot. I had no idea going into it what kind of food they offered or what I was in for. What a pleasant surprise and one of a kind experience (though they did divulge it's a local chain...this location is kind of in the middle of no where and if they would've said it was one of a kind I'd have believed it). Most other reviews have laid it all out. Really yummy down home southern type food. I vote for the chicken over the chicken fried steak (though both are yummy) and for the honey over the cane syrup. Nope, it's not the healthiest food you can eat, but sometimes you just gotta eat fried chicken.

    (4)
  • Michael M.

What can I say. The best fried chicken on planet earth. The funny thing is, after you finish stuffing yourself, incredibly, you are hungry for more. Everything is served family style. They bring you a big platter of fried chicken or chicken fried steak with sides of mashed pots, corn and lots of gravy. Gravy goes good on anything. The downside, it will take you a few weeks to burn off all of the calories that put on in one sitting.

    (5)
  • Ryan B.

In addition to the other positive revews - which I concur - here are few tips: it is BYOB, so bring your own set-ups, they don't have anything to give you. Coolers are fine. Go early to avoid the rush, otherwise you'll be standing outside in the heat or cold (but they do have a heater). Go to the one in Roanoke, the others just aren't the same. You can't take the sides to go but you can take the chicken. Don't take any Olestra (Orlistat) with your meal or your toilet will look like the second coming of the Exxon Valdez.

    (5)
  • L L.

We have been eating here for over fifteen years. I consider myself a good cook but I have yet to top their fried chicken. It is good old home style cooking. It is not fancy but it is delicious. The daily lines that extend down the block and around the corner say it all!!!

    (4)
  • Christy O.

Woo-hoo Babes!!! This is a great place to bring out of towners or simply enjoy with your family. The salad is great and the salad dressing is flavorful. I appreciate a salad that is already tossed in the dressing. The creamed corn is like heaven in a bowl. The biscuits... ohhh I AM IN LOVE WITH THE BISCUITS. I am a doughy biscuit fan and these biscuits rock. When the biscuit meets the butter, it is pure d-lish! I think I ate four biscuits on my most recent visit. The chicken anything is great and if you go with a few people, make sure everyone orders something different so you can get a sampling from each other- there is more than enough to go around. Have food left over? Grab a plastic bag hanging on a post near your table and shove it in there. The wait staff periodically stop to dance mid-meal and all the country decor keeps you entertained. The mis matched table and chairs make you feel like you are truly eating in a country kitchen. If you're on a diet- don't come here, unless you are going to break it for this meal. It will be well worth it.

Let this be a lesson to my friends who might be reading this in San Francisco....good fried chicken does not need to cost $25+. In fact, the best fried chicken is only $12 for all you can eat with sides at Babe's Chicken Dinner House. Amazing, amazing, amazing is all I can say. It was the crispiest, juiciest fried chicken I've ever eaten. If I could buy a franchise and take this back to San Francisco where they pay $25 for 1 leg, 1 breast and a thigh, I could afford to fly to the original Babe's everyday.

    (5)
  • Daniel N.

Not a lot of choices, two to be exact, but that "ain't no problem". If you do something well, don't mess with perfection! BTW... I recommend the chicken!

  • Chance T.

If you don't love babes, I don't know how you can say you are from TX. Simple menu. The fried chicken is great. The chicken fried steak is great. One thing I will say is that their sides could use some work. They are good, but could be better. No complaints from my end though, as I love this place! All in all this is a good TX homecookin retreat. As long as you leave the diet you're on at the door, you should be good to go with a trip to Babe's!

    (4)
  • Cody T.

Pretty decent food, but my goodness is it beyond loud in here. I hate going to loud restaurants, so this place loses a few stars for me. Their chicken is VERY tasty and they have the best mashed potatoes around, but it is defiantly not a place to go to have a conversation with friends.

Growing up in Roanoke I never knew Babes was such a phenomena. I always went with my family. YUMMY chicken, yummy cream corn...yummy everything. Lots of stuff to look at, entertaining staff but you sometimes have to wait on weekends. WORTH IT!!!

I can't get past the fat and calories in this place. The butter in the corn, oil in the green beans, biscuits, and huge portions of meat make me feel bad before I even take a bite. Very southern. Very unhealthy. Very hick atmosphere. Not my sort of place.

  • Cimi W.

This is all I'm going to say (short/sweet): Went with Dad 1 day...never had been here before OR heard of this place. We walked in, and I thought I was@ a F Klan-Rally (W-T- ....F ??) !!!!! We sat down to grub out, .....and the food was off the CHAIN!!!!! LOL!! Not a big fried chicken fan, but that shizz was G-ooo-D!! This place is "to the point"/ no ambiance/ COUNTRY JOINT (was waiting for a hillbilly to start blowing jug/ pickin' @ some fiddle or something........lol ).....grub, then BOUNCE. LoL. *slurp*

Still wonderful and still only Chicken and Chicken fried steak, Keep doing what your doing. There are tons of new places to eat here, but there is always a line at Babe's, Bring Your Own Bottles, Good Family Fun, not too expensive

There's nothing better than Babe's fried chicken when you're home sick and need a little dose of comfort food! I used to live near this location, which was dangerous and I'm sure it's responsible for 4 or 5 pounds in or around my belly. But it's worth it. The atmosphere is great, if not hilarious. It has Texas hole-in-the-wall written all over it, and they welcome that. The waits to get in can be up to an hour long...so plan it right. But once you're in, have fun! The waitresses are great - always in a good mood and charming you with the simple Texas hospitality. The chicken is orgasmic...seasoned and cooked to perfection. You get 4 pieces - 2 dark and 2 white, so you won't be complaining about hunger afterwards. And I haven't even mentioned the sides. The salad is simple, but has a delicious sweet dressing that keeps you digging in. The corn and potatoes are perfect. And the biscuits...my lord. Drizzle on the honey and don't stop until there's a shortage in the national honey supply. I don't think I've ever gone without taking a couple pieces home. Which is great, because there's nothing better than cold Babe's chicken out of the fridge. Mmmm...

  • Savannah M.

I can't imagine anyone not liking Babe's. Their fried chicken is amazing. The service is beyond amazing; these folks are terrific! They give you a LOT to eat. Doggie bag lasts for a week. I wish they had baked beans and desserts. But...down the street, there is a fabulous little pie shop. Cookie, fresh fudge...I think it's called Grandma's. Love, love, love their strawberry rhubarb pie.

New location in Carrollton is awesome! It's totally worth the 45 min. to 1.5 hour wait on any given "nice weathered" Friday or Saturday night. Just BYOB and hang on the patio with your family! Bring grandma and grandpa and the kids for a trip back to "Old West Texas", when there was no such thing as calorie counting, just great tasting, home-cooked, feel-good food! If you don't like fried chicken, there is always the smoked chicken with BBQ sauce! (That's what I get : ) The juke box plays Bob Wills, Roy Orbison, and many other old timer western favs during a family style "all you can eat" meal. Remember to ask for the Green Tomato relish (sometimes they don't offer it to you - the server might forget) and remember to save room for their famous bananna pudding or coconut cream pie (two of my fav desserts they offer)!

When I lived in Texas I could not get enough of this place! It doesn't matter that they only have two menu options... they are the best options ever!!! I even have a hard time deciding between just those two! Don't even get me started on the freshly made, never-ending sides or I'll start drooling. If you want homestyle food from the south, this is the place to go. The meat portions are HUGE and the sides are all-you-can-eat. You will leave Babe's overly-stuffed but oh so satisfied. Then a few hours later, you will crave it again.

This place is delicious! It is a great place to go as a family and everyone share their main meat course. I loved the chicken and the chicken fried steak. The salad and corn were wonderful as well. You have to try it out. It is crowded- but to me that is half of the fun.

For some reason, Babe's is the only restaurant in the area specializing in fried chicken that doesn't have a drive-thru. I can't stand the majority of the chicken chains, so when I have the opportunity to visit Babe's it is a great pleasure. The food is delicious and decadent; the yardbird is finger-licking in ways the Colonel could never duplicate, the biscuits are hot and buttery, the taters are creamy and rich (despite being made from a mix) and the corn is f-ing incredible! This is not a place for dieters, to be certain. It's an indulgence to satisfy the urge for genuine, homestyle fried chicken. Loosen up your belt and plan for a nap after you eat here, you'll need it.

If you want a little slice a Americana, I would suggest that you go to Babe's. The menu is very basic, the restaurant is unpretentious and the fried chicken is the star of the show. The food is served family style and the wait staff keeps refilling your plate of fried chicken when it gets low, so make sure you bring your appetite.

  • Paul S.

They have a secret for success! Great chicken, cream corn, and mashed potatoes. I think the salad is basic and not great, but who comes here for salad! Hands down, Best chicken on the planet

  • Rene R.

Ok, so apparently this Babe's doesn't have green beans, catfish, tenders, or the hickory smoked chicken. They didn't have any of the things I was looking forward to so be warned. Today was a disappointing meal. Unfortunately, we didn't find out anything till after we had been waiting for 15 minutes and after we sat down. Even though this is the first Babe's, I think you get a better meal at the Carrollton or the Sanger locations. Sorry, but more than two options is always better.

  • Karman L.

This place is like a hole in the wall, but it's def one of the BEST place for FRIED CHICKEN!!! I don't even know how to describe it, but it's just HEAVELY. They don't have a menu, they give you two choices either Fried Chicken or Chicken Fried Steak, and unlimited amount of side (mash with white gravy, corn bread!) Bring a pillow if you planning to go back to work after BABE! You will def get in food coma. YUM YUM YUM YUMM YUM!!!!!!

  • Rich A.

This is the best Fried Chicken on the planet. I came here all the time when I lived nearby. They don't serve alcohol, but you can bring your own in. If you are on the road, you can always stop by the drive thru liquor store in Grapevine on the way out to Keller.

  • Russ P.

Love the chicken fried steak! Babe's is one of the finest examples of southern cooking...starting with the fact that it is served family style. Every location I have been to has been byob...still not sure what wine you pair with chicken fried steak, so I bring beer.

  • Shannon W.

First, this place is located on a street in nowhere Texas that would look at home in an old school spaghetti Western. I swear to God there were tumbleweeds. It's located in between a pie shop and a firehouse. The rest of town consists of a Mexican restaurant and a water tower.... oh, and overflow parking in a muddy field because Babe's wood and brick warehouse interior is always effing packed... ALWAYS. Second, there are two choices on the menu: fried chicken or chicken fried steak. That's it. No menus just a hot waitress in jeans and a camo hat who walks up to your table with a smile as asks "Can I get you folks chicken or steak.... oh, and do y'all want something to drink?" The food comes out in waves...first a head lettuce salad mildly reminiscent of your high school cafeteria... then: HUGE platters of the best frickin' fried chicken and chicken fried steak this side of my West Virginia grandma. I have no idea how they made it up the holler to get her cast iron skillet, but Jesus H... YUM. Dinner is also served with all you can eat biscuits, creamed corn, mashed potatoes and exceptional gravy. Seriously...AND they put molasses on the table which I love. There is no bar, which is usually a killer for me, but they let you BYOB which is just fine. We filled out bellies and drank Tecate in cans and had a grand old time. At the last, it's ridiculously cheap. Three adults and one child ate more food than 17 people should safely ingest and we left for under forty bucks with tip.

One of the best chicken fried steaks around! The salad and sides are great too. Do not forget to ask for jalapeños.

Babe's is Babe's - what else can I say. The only better fried chicken house I have been to is Stroud's in KC!

  • Bill K.

Nothing new to add except avoid the CFS. It is a pretty bland piece of nothing. On the flip side, the cute Channel 11 weather girl, Julie Bologna and her cute self waltzed in while eating. She is pregant, but still cute. Also, as par the course for the other location, they still hire hot girls in tight jeans- a real plus

    (3)
  • Lindsay G.

Best fried chicken I've ever had. Even great the next day!! I could fill up on the mashed potatoes alone as well!!!

I love this location and it's perfect for Roanoke's downtown. This is true Texas taste, no menu just two items with family style eating. If you want a true taste of Texas this is where you go. Fried Chicken or Chicken Fried Steak for a meat eater type like myself it's perfect! Vegetarians need not apply.

There is only one thing to say about Babe's Chicken: Unreal. We hit this place on every trip to the DFW area.

  • Steve H.

babe's gets an extra 1/2 star for serving what i call "americana", you just don't find too many places like this anymore yo. creamed corn & biscuits are dynomite brah. the simplicity of the salad & mashed taters are a.o.k., the fried chicken is very good but my lil' j. dawg said "chicken express is betta", hmmmmmm.. o.k., 1/2 star deduct for not serving sweet tea.. WTF overall tho', very good old skool chicken jernt. check it. you'll be hummin' "lil pink houses for you & me" when you leave.

Whenever I have fried chicken anywhere else, I compare it to Babe's. I've been here many times with all sorts of people - friends, family (including my great, great aunt who has probably had some amazing fried chicken in her life), out of town guests, etc... and they all loved it. I think it's a fantastic place to take people who have a stereotypical view of Texans... because it's everything they want it to be and more... cute, big haired waitresses that speak with a drawl, enough fried food to cause several clogged arteries, men in overalls and cowboy boots/hats, and of course the fact that it's pretty much in the middle of nowhere. If you're looking for more choices on the menu, try Bubba's in North Dallas near SMU.. it's an Art Deco type restaurant that does take out, dine in, drive through, etc... same owners, and pretty much the same food except for more additions like chicken and dumplings, catfish, and more sides. Plus it isn't as far away from the city. I love Babe's because it reminds me of all the things I adore about Texas.. friendly people, good (fattening) food, and just a down home atmosphere that you can't get anywhere else.

  • Jacob W.

I'll keep it short and simple. Best. Restauarant. In. Dallas. Reasonably priced. It cost me $13.40 for a HUGE chicken fried steak and a drink. It's a great place if you have kids, they'll keep them entertained with stupid little things that even at my age make me laugh/amuse me. :P

  • Le E.

best fried chicken ever. do it. this is one of our favorites places to go. small town...great food. the chicken is tender and crispy. the sides are served family style and all that you can stuff yourself with. the cream corn is yummy, never had it before babes, and i love it. there's always left overs to take home. this location doesn't offer all of the frills as the other babes, just fried chicken and chicken fried steak. the other locations offer roasted chicken, pot roast, and catfish. good eats.

  • Vincenzo K.

In old town Roanoke [cool] It's a rustic place and worth a visit for the same reason. CFS and Fried Chicken only menu. Every individual in the party has to order a meal even the kids! Cash only.

  • Brooke B.

That's it! I can die now. Nobody in the world makes better fried chicken. Just imagine the most golden brown, juicy, tender fried chicken you can... that's Babes. It was a big girl's heaven!! (big boys too) There's always a wait and it's definitely worth it! I'm willing to have a triple bypass just for Babe's. Thank you Texas!!

One of the best restaurants around. Great fried chicken! Be prepared though, this Babes only has fried chicken and chicken fried steak Outstanding food and service.

  • Staci G.

I don't think there is a place around that totally captures the essence of the south like Babes. Menu is pretty straight forward, chick fried chicken or chick fried steak. The food is slap your mama good! The food is served family style and there is plenty to eat! Be prepared to wait for a spot!

    (5)
  • Karen J.

Babe's...Mmmmmm! Only the best fried chicken ever. It's a craving. Southern Living Magazine has featured it twice in their top 5 fried chicken places. The mashed potaotes and creamed gravy are incredible. You can taste the milk and the butter. Not a fan of the salad dressing but there's so much of the creamed corn and taters and gravy to go with the chicken that who needs salad? And the biscuits, good Lord! Don't forget the honey with 'em. Aw jeez, that sounds so good for dinner tonite!

  • Manda H.

What else is there to say, this place was Awesome. I love that there are only 2 things on the menu. Fried Chicken or Chicken Fried Steak, my party of 6 ordered 3 Fried Chicken Dinners and 1 Chicken Fried Steak. There was more than enough food. Next time I am down visiting my sister we will have to stop. I really wanted one of the t-shirts but they were out of the one I wanted. All in all it was a great place to enjoy some comfort food. Hop next door for dessert but come early by the time we arrived for dinner at 7 they were out of most of the pies.

I'm sad to say it but i have no desire to eat here ever again, or for at least a loooooong while, so off to the no list you go babes, you have died in my eyes, i have really seen the truth about this place, and I can sense an attitude about this place that is getting far from customer friendly, I'll explain: I feel like im in a factory when i sit down and order, they get so much business the waitresses just slap the food on your table, i feel like im on a conveyor belt with food being plopped down in front of me, yes this place may be a dive, but the service was always good, but now they are simple too nonchalant, and unfriendly in their haste, and unfriendliness is about the worst feeling you can get in a restaurant, it ruins everything Now after quite a few times, here, and i really notice the flaws in this place that before were unimportant, but now they are easily evident: The food is nothing special, and thee chicken seems to be more bready, and if i wanted a 50/50 bread to meat ratio i would go to KFC, 1 The corn isnt fresh, 2 the mashed potatoes are instant, 3 the salad is only good because its all sugar, 4 there are only 2 items on the "menu", this isn't true for their other places, 5 they play the goddamn hokey pokey, very loud too 6 leaves you feeling like you are pregnant with a gorilla afterwards; you cant really do any physical activity hours after eating I see the unbiased truth here, others are just clouded by first visits as i was too...but I have no desire to ever some here again... 7/07 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ If this place was any more hillbilly, it would have rocking chairs in the front for sittin'... o wait, it does... Haha, I can't believe it took me so long to discover this place! Absolutely amazing! This place begs you to eat like a pig, just begs. An I'll admit, I did. Wait on a Sunday lunch was about a minimal 10 min, i imagine it could get up there though. Salad was scrumptious. Then the holy Chicken...piping hot and ever so salty, biscuits heavenly soft, complemented by expensive Italian butter, a nice touch. Supersweet halfway creamed corn. And instants mashed potatoes, but thats definetely forgivable, Heavenly

We arrived on the earlier side of lunch, as the locals told us that it fills up fast. Our group was seated with no waiting. After getting our drinks, we were still waiting for some menus. There are only 2 things you can order: Fried chicken or chicken fried steak. Our group unanimously ordered the fried chicken. This is hands down the best friend chicken I have ever had. The sides are solid too, but the biscuit is awesome especially with a dab of butter and some honey! Come with an appetite because the portions are generous.

Best fried chicken ever. Avoid if you are on a diet or have heart problems. Throw out any concerns for health when you enter, as they will only interfere with the enjoyment.

  • michael b.

If you are in the area stop in. The menu is simple 2 choices fried chicken or chicken fried steak, served "family" style and always delicious. Its a great place to hit up after picking an out of town guest up at DFW who wants some southern food with gravy.

  • Wayne B.

Yesssss, I get to be the first to rate the best fried chicken restaurant this world has ever known. I've had more than my fair share of fried chicken, and this is the holy grail. Before I get lost in raving about the divine goodness of this self-proclaimed dinner house there are a few things you should know. First of all there are only two things on the menu- fried chicken and chicken fried steak. You get to choose one then they serve it to you family style along with amazing sides. A salad dressed with a sugary, vinegary concoction along with perfectly fluffy biscuits (honey, butter, and sorghum are already on the table) and heaping bowls of creamy mashed potatoes, creamed corn, cream gravy and a platter of your choice of meat (half a chicken or a huge steak). Regardless of what you order you'll walk away feeling bloated and satisfied, like a true Texan. It's a fairly large restaurant, with mismatched tables and chairs, but it's also extremely popular so be prepared to wait a while on the weekends. While you wait hang out next door and buy a bottle of Dublin Dr. Pepper. They don't serve booze, but you can bring your own. Only negative I can think of is their jukebox which has the hokey pokey on lock. When it comes on all of the waitresses gravitate towards the center of the room and dance. It's entertaining for about 5 seconds then you just feel weird and confused and yearning for more potatoes. Oh, did I mention that the sides are all-you-can-eat? Yeah, well they are, and you'll disturb yourself with just how much you can shove into that freakish body of yours.

Oh man, do I heart Babe's. It's a little bit country-style. It's a little hokey. It's a little farmhand. It's not fancy. The food certainly isn't fancy. But the food is freakin' brilliant. You choose your meat (half a fried chicken or chicken fried steak) and they keep on bringin' the sides. Mashed potatos, slaw, greenbeans, cornbread, all that. And the meat portion is nothin' to sneeze at. This isn't half of some underfed little scrappy chicken. I'm a big guy, and I definitely have to work on finishing my food here, if you're eating sides too. Dirty cheap. Totally simple. Totally comfort food. Lucky Karmz L is definitely correct, I was going to use the same term. So I'll use another. If you don't walk out of Babe's with foodbaby, you didn't eat at Babe's.

All I have to say is F#@# yeah! I Love Babe's, you end up getting way more food than you could possibly eat!

  • Michael K.

Great Fried Chicken Place. There are only 2 choices, fried chicken and chicken fried steak. I have intended several times to order the chicken fried steak, but never do and have never been disappointed. You get 1/2 of a chicken (breast, let, thigh, wing) and it is a lot to eat. Sides are served family style and the creamed corn may be the best I have ever had. They do not serve alcohol, but you can BYOB. It can be a long wait on weekends if the weather is good, but well worth it.

  • Chad Y.

First time to Babe's chicken. Have to hand it to them, they sure know how to fry some chicken! They keep it simple, chicken or steak and their sides are biscuits, mashed potato and corn. Loved it all! The whole chicken for just $12.99 and all the sides you can handle. Better bring your appetite or be prepared to bring home the rest of the bird. Great family friendly atmosphere, great for kids and just an overall great lunch. We'll definitely be back.

  • Lauren S.

I think this is the OG location. They have a more limited menu than the Arlington one I have been to before. Here you can choose from chicken fried steak or fried bone in chicken. Since we had people visiting from out of town requesting the best CFS, we brought them here. Come hungry. You get a salad to start- it's just iceberg lettuce with a sweet dressing- I don't care for it. Then biscuits, creamed corn, gravy and chicken fried steak hit the table. They are just making this stuff in mass quantities so you're not waiting long. Our service was good. Everyone loved the food. The man friend claims this is his favorite place to get chicken fried steak. It's definitely a heavy meal, but for the occasional meal this place is great.

I love how people get on here and bring it down to 2 or 3 stars because it was too unhealthy or too fatty. Let's review: Babe's is known for 2 things, FRIED chicken and chicken FRIED steak. So if you're looking for healthy don't come here, they aren't exactly trying to hide that they aren't on the diet lists....Anyways enough about that. The food rocks and if you're going to go to a Babe's I suggest the original. As everyone stated, its BYOB and if you're an alcoholic like me, this is a nice touch! I'd also suggest a couple of folding chairs or portable chairs because the wait will be long and when you get drunk you're going to want to sit down. The food is exactly how it should be.....huge CFS that takes up the whole plate or an entire fried chicken. Comes with creamed corn, mashed potatoes, green beans and some shitty salad that's really just iceberg lettuce with like vinegar and sugar.....skip it....eat the biscuits with marjoram instead! So if you're trying to eat healthy here have a diet coke!

The best fried chicken I've had in my life time and to top it off you can bring your own alcohol...que suave.

Babe's Chicken Dinner House takes the very simple concept of serving fried chicken (and chicken fried steak but come on, who goes to a chicken dinner house ordering steak? Not I. ) and copious quantities of sides and executes it wonderfully. The chicken comes out on a big platter and is served piping hot with a crunchy, peppery crust and delectably juicy, salty chicken on the inside. Each person gets a breast, leg and a few other parts, ensuring there's more than enough food to go round. The sides that come with are also pretty delicious and the starter salad, just iceberg lettuce served with a nice vinaigrette, is refreshing and light when compared to the gigantic feast that comes after. Sides are served family style and include creamed corn - yum!, hot fresh biscuits - pour honey and butter on them and stuff with fried chicken and you've got a much classier version of the Whataburger honey butter chicken biscuit, also mashed potatoes and gravy -tasty but not spectacular. The service here is usually fine, waitresses just ask steak or chicken and then start bringing stuff, it's hard to really mess up. Nevertheless, the food here is wonderful, a deal at about $10 a person, and beyond plentiful, so make the trek and leave happy (and fat).

I have been to Babe's over a dozen times and it never fails to deliver awesome food. Both the chicken fried steak and fried chicken are delicious and the sides are also amazing. Highly recommend!

I'm going to school in California, but I'm originally from Keller, and every time I come home to visit I bring the whole family to Babe's. You just can't get chicken fried steak like this in California, especially not with all the right fixins. You order chicken fried steak or fried chicken, and that comes with an unlimited amount of sides: biscuits, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn. Oh yeah, and salad. I usually skip that. While it's technically not true, I basically think of this place as all-you-can-eat because of the amount of food. Also, I'm pretty sure this place is BYOB but you should probably call ahead to check.

Babes Chicken Dinner House... It is chicken.... Expensive Fried chicken, mashed potatoes, cream corn, a salad with house dressing and super sweet tea. We went to the Babes in Roanoke -they don't have dessert. The wait is LONG, the dining room is PACKED. I know it's a local Texas "thing", and I probably shouldn't say anything negative about Babes .....but I'm sorry Y'ALL! It's over rated. But please don't let my comment stop u! You might be like the rest of north Texas and fall in love with the little home town chicken house!

This is like every other all you can eat family style fried chicken dinner joint. The good ones that is. They have a well oiled machine going here & you can tell they know what they're doing. Our wait was surprisingly short. Our waitress was efficient & pleasant. She took the time to offer times where the crowds were smaller. Our food came quickly but not too quickly. The food itself was yummy as you can tell by all the reviews. The surprise for me was how much I liked that drenched iceberg salad. The dressing is indeed sweet but I really dug it. The sorghum molasses also surprised me. It was perfect with no trace of bitterness. We'll be going back for sure.

It is just like eating at grandma's house. Fried chicken & chicken fried steak are delicious. Mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, salad, biscuits with sorghum & honey are all bottomless. Our waitress was fantastic. We had no wait at 1pm on a Saturday. Southern style comfort food at its finest. This place gets it just right.

Excellent service.. Very polite, attentive staff, so we're off to a great start. The Decor is very cool with a rustic feel. Our hostess stated that we were at the original Babes, so fried chicken and chicken fried steak are it. Food was very good, with unlimited amount of salad, corn, biscuits, gravy mashed potatoes and corn. Very enjoyable and would advise if you are not from Texas to give this a try. Experience what the locals in the great state of Texas get to enjoy.

  • Steve P.

If you have ever heard of Babes then u know what I'm talking about. Family style fried chicken and all u can eat sides! Roscoes chicken and waffles has nothing on this place when it comes to southern food. $14 a person for 3 pieces of chicken and all the sides, boom.

  • Chris U.

I could of sworn I've already written a review for this place. As it is Awesome! Babes is family style. You have 2 choices. Choice number 1 - fried chicken. Delicious, soaked in their own brine then deep fried perfection. Choice number 2 - chicken fried steak. This is in my opinion one of the top CFS's I've had. Sides include all you can eat mashed potatoes and gravy, and creamed corn. (They have a salad too but let's be honest you don't come here for lettuce). Highly recommend, and come hungry!!!

  • Vince F.

Soooo Full! This place serves up great fried chicken or chicken fried steak with all you can eat biscuits (the best) corn, salad, and mashed potatoes. It was busy when we got there and people were lined up outside when we left. You can bring your own adult beverages if you want. Bring an appetite!

  • Tracy S.

Started off with Sweet Tea, followed by salad. If possible ask for dressing on the side. Too drenched and very sweet. By far some if the best biscuits I have had in years. Chicken fried steak was awesome according to hubby. Creamy mashed potatoes, gravy on point and creamed corn was more like buttery corn, but yummy none the less. They do take out which I will do next time.

Great fun...super family atmosphere. The food is amazing! The only thing I'd change is the sour cream in the potatoes. I love the concept and the atmosphere. The bathroom hall is fun...don't miss that! . Don't forget it's byotw. (Bring your own Tupperware if you want to bring home leftovers!!)

Who doesn't love Babe's? I've been visiting for years, and the one in Roanoke is my favorite. On this last visit, I ordered the fried chicken and my date had the chicken fried steak. They were both delicious: flavorful, juicy, and just the right amount of batter. It's also hard to beat the bottomless mashed potatoes, salad, and biscuits. This was my date's first visit, but he's already said we're coming back!

This place is a delightful taste of Americana! Our memorable experience began with the extremely polite hostess at the door and continued until we left. The service here is exceptional and our server, Brittany, was cheery polite and speedy! I have delighted on Robert Keller's fried chicken served "family-style" at Ad Hoc in Yountville, California and believed I had died and gone to heaven! Babes gave me the same experience! The menu is simple as to entrees, fried chicken or chicken-fried steak with sides for corn, mashed potatoes, biscuits and gravy but you will not be disappointed! We "stumbled" on this establishment during our visit from California and will make it a point to return!

    (5)
  • Riley L.

Honestly some of the best fried chicken and sides I have ever had! This place is dark and a little loud, but everything just adds to the charm and nothing takes away from the food. Get here early and bring everyone you truly love.

I moved to the DFW metroplex about 6 months ago. I can't tell you how many times I've been told to visit Babe's. Especially since we live near the original Roanoke location. You're not a real Texan until you've dined at Babe's, I was told. I'm not really sure why it took me so long to take my family to this historic chicken house. The lines outside forming at an early hour were a bit intimidating, I'll admit. Every time we went for dinner on "restaurant row" there was always a crowd at Babe's, but boy could you smell what they were cooking. We were able to walk right in on a Sunday late morning (11:00a) and shown to a table. The place was already mostly full. There's eye candy galore here- lots to see. My 3-year old daughter was overwhelmed with the interior. From the game on the walls to the servers doing the hokey pokey, to the colorful signs. She was taking it all in like the adults were. The table went with for both the fried chicken and the chicken fried steak. The drinks and salad came first. Sweet tea was perfect, salad was iceberg lettuce drenched in a sweet vinegar dressing, very tasty. Fresh biscuits followed quickly- with options to be smothered in locally sourced honey or Sorghum molasses. These biscuits were unreal, and unlimited- like all of the sides served with your protein. The fried chicken, as we were told, was recently ranked #6 nationwide. It's hard to argue that, as this was the juiciest, freshest, best tasting fried chicken I'd ever encountered. The entire table agreed. One order consisted of a breast, wing, thigh, and leg. It's a ton of food for one person to eat. The chicken fried steak was massive as well, and smothered in brown gravy it was delicious. The mashed potatoes were special- the collective opinion was that perhaps cream cheese or sour cream (both?) were part of the recipe. Again, drown those potatoes in the gravy and you're golden. There was also a yummy sweet corn dish- creamed style corn. Kids under 5 eat for free (pick off the parent's plate), and there's no dessert options. Honestly, if you still have room to eat dessert I'd be impressed. If you must, there's Oak Street Pies right next door- the pecan pie is extraordinary. Our arteries were begging for mercy after we rolled ourselves out of Babe's but man oh man was it every excellent. The service was top notch too- Brooke took the time to explain everything to us, checked in regularly and kept the sides coming! What a cool experience- fun times and out-of-this-world home cooked food. It seriously was like eating over at grandma's house.

Pretty darn good. - I managed to go here for lunch today. For those of you who don't know, Babe's chicken is a well-known local joint that makes fried chicken. And chicken-fried steak. And that's it! They're ranked #4 best fried chicken in the nation, or something like that. They only serve those two dishes, and with that you get a little salad (just lettuce but who cares?), awesome biscuits, awesome mashed potatoes and white gravy, and awesome creamed-ish corn. Honey and Maple syrup is also on the table, for you weirdos. - Actually the honey is awesome on the biscuits. - I got the fried chicken. It was good. It didn't blow me away - but it was really good. The crust is really good - I could eat just that. When you order the chicken, you get 4 giant pieces; breast, thigh, drumstick and wing. It's pretty darn good. - The batter for the chicken is simple; there's no wacky spices or anything else like that going on. Just straight up fried chicken. - I liked it. I'll be back.

Dinner review from 03/17/2015. Since there's always a line at main lunch or dinner times, we opted to arrive around 5:00 PM. There was no wait, and we were immediately greeted by their charming staff and promptly seated. We ordered tea and she explained the menu - you have your choice of fried chicken or chicken fried steak. My boyfriend ordered the steak and I the chicken - your meal also comes with whipped potatoes, creamed corn, salad and biscuits. She brought our drinks and salad within minutes. The salad is just iceberg lettuce served chilled with a simple sweet vinegar dressing - it's wonderful, crisp and very Southern. I read some people complain about it's simplicity, however I find it charming and delicious. Who want's to fill up on greens here anyways? Do yourself a favor - don't even mess with the chicken fried steak. It's ok - but the chicken is downright amazing. The crust makes you wanna slap someone! The potatoes are whipped to a fluffy perfection and the creamed corn is my *favorite* (fresh - nothing like the canned variety). This is truly one of the most Southern meals you can hope to find in Texas!!

Even though they've now spread to a half-dozen or so locations and broadened their offerings somewhat, Babe's is unique. It's not so much a restaurant as much as an old fashioned Southern chow hall, for all that's worth both good and bad. This Roanoke location is the original and pretty much nothing has changed since they opened decades ago. A large, single-room dining area crammed full with tables and chairs, country kitsch filling the walls and a young local staff buzzing around the place. Hard to judge this as a "restaurant" as there is no menu: Your only prix fixe choices are fried chicken, chicken fried steak and your beverage. Every meal is served with the same family-style sides (again, no choices) that include a simple iceberg salad in a sweet vinaigrette, corn, mashed potatoes, homemade biscuit and white gravy, any of which is essentially all-you-can-eat. Went with the fried chicken, which is basically a half bird with bone-in breast, large thigh, leg and wing. The sides are good to rather plain but the fried chicken is as perfectly done as the dish can get, a crispy-crunchy coating outside with a moist bird inside, even the breast meat. That's it. Aside from a few homemade pies for dessert, that's the whole dining experience. Had enough food for two meals, took one of those meals home (great value for the price). It's certainly a one-trick pony but they are the best around at that one trick.

There are two choices for your entree: fried chicken or chicken fried steak. Nothing to offer any kind of special dietary needs at all. Served with mashed potatoes and gravy and corn whether you like it or not. The only vegetable available is iceberg lettuce that comes in already chopped up in a bag. They sat us right by the kitchen where they keep the "salad" and the whole visit I watched server after server pour bags of half rotten lettuce into the mix. As they would serve it, they'd throw a couple of bunches into the trash and try to pick out some "good" lettuce. Gross. When the food finally came, there was a long black hair sticking out of the breading on my chicken fried steak and I lost my appetite. Yes the place is packed with a long wait all the time, but I don't get it at all.

Sometimes I get a little overwhelmed in the decision-making process involved at restaurants with novel-length menus. When everything sounds good, how do you choose? No such drama here. It's just chicken fried steak or a huge plate of fried chicken, and you can't go wrong with either. Serving just 2 options, they have their frying down to a fine art and deliver hot and perfectly crispy chicken every time. The sides (salad, potatoes, corn, green beans, hot biscuits) are served family style, and are almost as good as my grandmas. Babes is the perfect place to bring visiting Yankees or a big group o hungry friends.

There's two things I "advise" friends when sending them to Babe's for the first time: 1. It's an event, not a meal. Bring an ice chest on the weekends and plan accordingly. Some of the best times I've had in Roanoke were sitting outside tailgating with other patrons. It's like waiting in lines at Disney World. They've got it down to such a science that a 30 minute wait feels like a few minutes. 2. Prepare for internal bleeding. I usually begin my pre-Babe's fasting schedule a day in advance. I would say don't fill up on the sides but the corn... my God... the corn! Homemade fried chicken and chicken fried steak, excellent southern sides and an up-beat family-friendly vibe make this a must visit. And don't forget your jukebox money.

LMAO at the guy that gave it a one star for having great food but not carrying a full menu like the other locations. News alert: This is the original location and the others adapted their menus, while the original stayed the same. In fact, one of the coolest parts about this location is that they remain the same as they were decades ago. I like that they don't change their menu and I would lower my rating if they did. Chicken: Excellent Steak: Excellent Catfish: Don't have it, so excellent! Mashed potatoes, gravy, corn are spot on, and the biscuits are nuts as well. I do miss the old timey look of the town before everyone came in an redeveloped and added a million places, but the food remains outstanding.

  • Lucas W.

The fried chicken here is the best I have ever had. All of the sides are served buffet style which is a plus if your with a group of people. Service here is always great. If your hungry for a really good lunch go to babes.

  • Heather M.

I prefer some of the other locations as they are less crowded but this is the original and always packed. Be prepared for waiting for a table! My son loves the food here. The rest of my family not as much. It's a fun place to take a family, food isn't bad but there are better places around.

You choose between Fried chicken of Chicken Fried Steak. I opted for neither and just ate the all you can eat amazing biscuits, mashed potatoes, cream corn, and salad! Very fun atmosphere and very kind staff!! Will go again!!

There chicken is so very good, but everything else was terrible including the service. We brought some people from out of town here thought it would be a fun place, boy were we disappointed and very embarrassed for bringing our family here.

Love! Love this place! The quality of the food is consistent. The fried chicken is pure perfection-umami. I think it's buttermilk brined. For $9.99 you order a chicken dinner which is like half of a chicken- with mashed potatoes, sweet creamy corn and flaky buttermilk biscuits. They start you with a simple yet savory iceberg lettuce salad. The sides are all you can eat- family dinner style. The drinks are kind of pricey to me $2-3 for a soft drink- and they are not even coca cola products. Your dessert can be a buttermilk biscuits with pure honey. Simple yet delicious. No fancy decorations but great ambience. I have been sent away twice and there are days when the line outside is long. But I still go- umami!

I can only give this place 2 stars because it's nothing but over priced fast food chicken. I don't mind only having 2 choices, I find that part perfectly acceptable as I was coming for excellent fried chicken. Perhaps I was expecting too much because from the description I was expecting something similar to Lamberts. Home cooked food served family style with unlimited sides. But this food was no better than I could get from a local fast food chicken place. I'll start with the "salad", and I use that term loosely. It's nothing but chopped iceberg lettuce that has been sitting in italian dressing. No red onions, no cucumbers, no tomatoes. Just lettuce. My fiancee loves salads, and she only had one bite. It was too wilted and drenched in dressing. The dinner came out, we ordered both the chicken fried steak and the fried chicken. Both of these were good, but nothing exceptional. We were given a bowl of each, mashed potatoes, gravy and corn. The mashed potatoes and gravy were the best part of the meal. The corn was just frozen corn with some butter and seasoning. The biscuits were ok. The server was polite and friendly. The atmosphere was also very country and I liked that a lot. Those are the two things earning them 2 stars. So in conclusion, if I am going to pay $13 per person, I expect better food than I can get for half that price at a fast food place. Lettuce drenched in dressing is not a salad, and the corn should be on the cob or fresh, not frozen.

Good fried chicken and chicken fried steak. Not sure if it is the best, it's definitely worth going if you are in the area. People said it is the best. Well, KFC has more flavor. I think Saltgrass has better chicken fried steak. Very simple. 2 menu items: chicken or steak. Then unlimited sides: biscuits, corn, mash potatoes, and, gravy. Great server and service.

So I love food. And this is fried chicken at its best. Family style sides and you choose either fried chicken or chicken fried steak. We went in a group and tried both. Loved it. Moist flavored chicken. Biscuts and honey on the table! Yum. Service was fast. They did refillable sides and we got them all in great time. Went on a Sunday morning and we got in with 5 people in no time. I highly recommend this place for both food and ambiance. It was loud but super cute country style. Lots of wood and ruffled curtains. Well worth the stop.

Only 2 things on the menu - I had the fried chicken and it was good! Unlimited sides, the creamed corn was something else, couldn't get enough! Thick gravy, hearty biscuits, genuine Texas honey to drizzle on top, certainly worth to indulge! Great decor in the restaurant with the small-town feel of Roanoke, TX. A great dining experience that doesn't blow your budget!

5 stars because the food is FANTASTIC....the wait can sometimes be a bit longer than u might want to wait. It trust me, it's worth it. Many places have closed down around babes, but they haven't, and there is a reason for that. Because they have the best food in town. I would highly recommend the drum sticks, they are delish

By far, some of the best fried chicken in the state! Family style veggies, Texas music, and plenty of BOBs (Big Ole Biscuits )

The magic of Babe's is that you park, take your seat, and are almost immediately delivered the best sides and heaping plates of fried chicken available anywhere outside your grandmother's kitchen. It's perfectly simple and worth the drive.

Now i know why there is always a line out of this place. Simple and fantastic! Chicken fried steak like grandma used to make. Creamed corn was awesome. Staff very friendly and attractive. Cool old building looks like its been there for 100 years. If i eat here too much i will have a heart attack but we will be back

After eating @ Babes for the 1st, I got it. This place must make a decent profit with the selection on the menu. As I was thinking of how much the owner was a genius, I scooped another spoonful of mashed potatoes in my mouth. "Salad", fried chicken, mashed potatoes, corn & 2 biscuits - simple & delicious. The service was nice but for some reason, I felt rushed. Again, I get it, move customers in & out to increase the overhead. This Babes is in a great location and we enjoyed a little stroll afterwards. There are plenty of places to eat around the area and I saw plenty of orders to go. If I was a local, I would also get my order to go. Overall the experience was nice and I would go back (trying the chicken fried steak next time) if I was in the area or would be willing to try one of the other locations with different selections.

It has been a while since I've ate fried chicken and this place made me feel great ! The food is family style and simple. You don't need any fancy sauces to hide the fried chicken flavor. The chicken here is off the wall good I will definitely come back again,

A very great place for fried chicken!!! I've been here several times and loved everything. The staff is great as well. I loved that the restroom door was hidden. My overall favorite item is the cream corn! Amazing!!!

Always a great meal at Babe's! My wife and I routinely go there - some of the best fried chicken you will ever find, and the sides (all served family style and free refills) are amazing. The waitresses are always friendly and prompt. We will continue to be loyal customers!

We had about a 40 minute wait for a party of 5 on a Saturday night. Once you're in the service is very fast & the food is amazing! My father in law was in town & loved it. The chicken fried steak was tender enough to cut with a fork & everyone loved the fried chicken. There were always plenty of sides being brought out. I loved the potatoes!!!

Too many choices here, either fried chicken or chicken fried steak. Thank goodness they narrow down choice of sides for you and automatically bring creamed corn and mashed taters (precious). This place feels like a throwback 1950s Americana visit. The chicken is very flavorful and fresh so always may favorite. Went with a buddy and almost got into a fight cause he thought family style meant he could have some of my chicken. The chicken always comes out really hot so make sure you don't burn yourself. Service is always quick though they are packed with families on the weekends so there's a wait. Only a couple things I don't like here. 1) I could eat fried foods every day but know I need too veggie once in a while. Wished they at least added a little tomato to salads and not just lettuce. Course my dad would kill me if he was still alive. 2) Place is ear busting loud, even though I love the music. I actually like to talk to my FAM and sometimes eat here for work and want conversation. Ya gotta eat here at least once in your life (or in my case once a week), but fair warning, it's additive and fun to look around in there. Other locations in the Metroplex have more food options but I tend to stick with the standards when I visit them. And visiting this one in Roanoke proves there's no place like home.

It wasn't the original but damn it was good! I have no clue why I haven't ever eaten here before! I cannot wait to go again! The fried chicken is just amazing, the sides are superb, and the biscuits to die for. Definitely my new go to fried chicken spot!!

I flew into town from Boston on business earlier in the day and drove the 5 extra miles based on the reviews. I didn't get there until 8:30 on a Tuesday and it was mostly empty (they close at 9). I showed up solo at a family restaurant and was seated alone at a table with five (mismatched) chairs. It was the smallest table they had. I don't know if I would have been seated with strangers if it was busy or encouraged to get take-out. Food: You already know about the menu options. I got both so I could try it all, bringing the leftovers back to the hotel. I can now cross Chicken Fried Steak off the to-do list. Not sure I'd do it again. I agree that the coatings are under-seasoned. It's just begging for pepper. They do offer to bring Frank's or Tobasco to the table. The corn and potatoes are sneaky good, even better as leftovers. The biscuit was really good too, and it was fun trying it with the honey and the molasses. Setting: just as fun as described. I didn't see any dancing waitresses, but the decorations were amusing. I didn't find it loud at all, but it was mostly empty. Service: top notch! My server was absolutely adorable, engaging, efficient, and helpful. She got an extra-big tip out of me. Complaints: As I said, I ordered both the CFS and the Fried Chicken. I was surprised that I got charged the full amount for both since I didn't get any extra of the sides. Also, leftovers go home in see-through plastic bags. They have to-go boxes, but only for to-go orders and not for leftovers. I was surprised they wouldn't make an exception in my case since I paid for two dinners and was effectively taking home an entire dinner. I had to walk through my hotel holding the see-through bags with my smooshed together leftovers. I had a great time and stuffed myself silly. I couldn't eat for at least a day.

It's Babe's! Do I need to say more? Well may a little. Atmosphere: it is pretty cool looking at the walls and decor laughing at the different things that are so random. The brick on the wall keeps the antique look of Babe's being around a very long time. It's loud and just a fun place to dine! Food: best fried chicken I ever had. I don't know how they do it but it's wonderful. The salad at first glance looks limb but the first bite surprises you with a great taste! The sides have the same effect. You won't be disappointed. Service: good O fun country service. Very friendly and they make you feel at home. Great place to take the family! Big groups are a little hard but they can do it.

I was traveling to Fort Worth for business. When I asked about a place to eat from the hotel , this was the first restaurant they mentioned. The food is good; however it is not for the health conscious. I do watch what I eat but stray. They only have the 2 items, fried chicken and chicken fried steak. The chicken fried steak was massive but delicious. The sides, mashed potatoes and cream corn tasty as well. Good food but heavy in the carbs!

Although we have ordered take-out at Babes on numerous occasions, we have never dined-in. I'm not a huge fan of waiting but on a weekend you can see many lined up for a delicious meal. I have been in the restaurant and it has a unique, take me back 100 years, atmosphere. So dining-in would be fun and perfect for the family. The family style meal reminds me of the delicious dining options we had while living in SC. Everything from the fried chicken or steak to all the sides are perfect comfort food. We have never had a bad meal nor have we had bad service. I have been at many events where Babes has catered the meal and even while feeding a large group the food was outstanding. I gave them 4 stars only because the nutritional value is extremely low. Don't get me wrong, I love their food but if you are looking for a healthy meal don't bother. Their limited meal does not include healthy options. Between the fried meat and the side dishes dripping in butter this is not for the health conscious person. I personally like a good salad and that by far is not their speciality with an unappetizing iceberg lettuce salad. With full disclosure on the health value, we would recommend.

We were seated right away, but had to wait to be acknowledged and waited on. The manager was seated at table nearby and seemed to keep the wait staff at his beck and call. A waitress finally went over and told our waiter that he had a table. Once Josh got away from the Mgr's table he was great! Very knowledgeable and personable. The Mgr never walked the floor and asked how the service or food was. We had the Chicken Fried Steak and the a fried Chicken. We were brought corn, mash potatoes, gravy and biscuits as sides. The food was really good and cooked perfectly. We thought the price was a little high for basically a chicken dinner with mashed potatoes, gravy and corn.

Death by fried chicken! Limited menu keeps the quality of the food consistently amazing. We used to live in the neighborhood but this was still a one time per year place because the food is so decadent. Crispiest fried chicken, sweet creamed corn, and bottomless mashed potatoes made with whole milk, I'm sure. Oh and lettuce drenched in a sweet, sugary dressing. Come hungry, eat sides, and leave with left over chicken for days...

Winner winner chicken dinner!! Don't let the long line to get in frighten you away. Table for two on a Saturday night? An hour wait? I'll take that. Welcome to DFW. Where the food is delicious and your thighs hate you for it. We ordered the chicken & chicken fried steak dinners. Endless portions of delicious sides -- corn, biscuits, gravy with smashers (mashed potatoes for those of you scratching your head). Everything was delicious. The fried steak had a light breading and was tender BUT the fried chicken was amazing!! Artery clogging, deliciousness all washed down with tea. Can't beat they plus leftovers to boot!! The prices are way more then fair!! Definitely will return!! Yummmmmm-o!!

After spending the weekend at the casinos in Oklahoma, the crew I was with stopped here on the trip back to DFW. I had never been here, so this was an all new experience. This is a popular place! It was nice, so we sat in the rocking chairs outside whilst waiting for a table to open up. It looks like it use to be a hardware store back in the day. I really loved the small town charm. Oh, and this place is the original! Inside was pretty awesome. There is stamped metal on the back wall. Apparently it is the metal that used to be the ceiling of this building. On the ceiling, they have names on what looked like paddles. Kind of cool, they are names of staff who have impacted not only the company, but the experience of the customers. OK. On to the good stuff. So here you have the option: fried chicken OR chicken fried steak. That is it. So I opted for the chicken fried steak. Holy cow. These pieces are HUGE! Did I mention that your meal also comes with: mashed potatoes, white gravy, cream corn, and biscuits? Oh and you get molasses and honey for the biscuits. All I have to say is thank goodness for a doggy bag!! All served family style. After all, is there really any other way? This place was amazing. If you haven't been here, I suggest it. If you have, you know good food when you see it!

This was our first time here. It was recommended by a friend of ours as being a "religious experience" so we figured we had to check it out. We were not at all disappointed. Very friendly staff, all you can eat sides and surprisingly good creamed corn, and oh yea the best fried chicken I've ever had. Unbelievably tasty and I really liked that the skin did not separate from the meat, it stayed stuck on there. Great atmosphere, great service, great food, just all around great great great. Next time I want chicken I know where to get the best.

When visiting Denton, this is my favorite lunch spot. There's a big parking lot out back, just a short walk from the front door. My husband and I both ordered the fried chicken with unlimited creamed corn, mashed potatoes and gravy. It also comes with salad and yummy biscuits. The only thing I'd change is the dressing used on the salad because it's too sweet. Everything looks and tastes homemade. Chicken was incredibly juicy and perfectly seasoned. If you like your biscuits sweet, there's also a honey and a molasses syrup option on the tables. We skipped breakfast knowing we were coming here and still couldn't finish and took most of the chicken back with us. Wish they would open further south so we wouldn't have to go so far. Can't wait to go back!

This is the place to go for southern home cooking. The fried chicken was great, mashed potatoes better, and the biscuits were delicious. It's all family style and the sides are unlimited. The price is very reasonable for the amount of food you get. The service was good and our waiter was very helpful. It's a laid back country atmosphere and our kids loved it too.

I was in Roanoke for meetings and it was time to take a break for dinner. I had a friend with me and ask him what he wanted for dinner. He didn't know. I suggested Babe's and he said he'd never been there. I said WHAT! You've never been to Babes! Oh my gosh, you haven't lived until you've eaten at Babes. We arrived right at 4:30 and my friend was amazed how crowded the restaurant was right after opening. I told him he hadn't seen anything yet. I assured him there would be a "wait" line by the time we left, even on a Monday evening. He looked at me and said "No way, it's Monday.". I told him, just wait, you'll see. My buddy ordered the chicken fried steak entree and I opted for Babe's incredible fried chicken. I explained to him how things worked at the restaurant. You've got bottomless sides of salad (ok), mashed potatoes (totally yummy), cream style gravy (some of the best I've had there) and cream style corn (my favorite). After being served our salads (iceberg lettuce with Babe's signature sweet/sour dressing), our entrees, biscuits and sides arrived. You should have seen my friend's eyes when he saw the side of his chicken fried steak! He'd never seen a chicken fried that huge! Our server took excellent care of us and made sure our sides never ran out. My friends said, "I think I've died and gone to heaven!" In other words he really enjoyed the Babe's dining experience! I was so happy to introduce him to the restaurant. Of course my chicken was cooked to perfection. The two of us had a wonderful experience dining and visiting for close to an hour and a half. And yes, when we walked out of the restaurant, there was a line outside, even on a Monday evening!

Ate here yesterday for lunch. There's usually a crowd waiting, but we got a table nearly right away. If you order chicken, four pieces per person are brought on a platter, with sides of potatoes, gravy, biscuits and creamed corn served family style. We paid just under $50 for the three of us. The chicken was good, I just wasn't wowed, honestly, maybe because everyone I know hypes this place. Not sure I'd bother again.

We love Babe's! But even though we live 5 min from the Roanoke location, we drive to Carrollton for the full menu. If this Babe's had chicken tenders and green beans, we'd be here all the time.

When there's only two things on the menu they'd better be good. At Babe's they're not, they're great! Your choices are fried chicken or chicken fried steak. I opted for the steak, but my boyfriend loves the chicken. You get a whole fried chicken for each person who orders it and the steak is larger than my head. Sides are unlimited and delicious. My first time I was upset for moving reasons, so I had half of my chicken fried steak and mostly mashed potatoes. Thing is, you know the food is good by the constant lines out the door. When we got there a waitress was hanging out at an empty table. You could look around and see girls on their phones. I'm not a fan of being able to see the staff when they are getting drinks. Mostly because they were standing around on their phones and talking. To me it was very unprofessional, and not in the cute country way. Our waitress was very attentive, I'm not saying the staff was ever directly rude to us, I just prefer a staff that isn't on their phones constantly. I like Babe's, and I'll go many times while I live out here. Mix-matched chairs and funky decor are great. Food is sooo good.

Fried Chicken spot that's "finger licking" good :-p I'm not used to eating Southern Fried food the way Babe's has it laid but, I enjoyed my visit at the location in Roanoke, TX and in Arlington, TX. The wait line was long and we had to wait 45 min for a table. It was worth it! Enjoy the small locale gathering and get away from the big city for a bit.

Who doesn't love babes? This original babes only has two chicken options, chicken fried steak or fried chicken, so if you want something else you may want to try the babes in Frisco. Even though there are only two options, the two they have are amazing! You can't get any better than that.

Much respect for Babes. More restaurants should take a cue from them and simplify their menus. Each Babes location serves a slightly different menu and they are all examples of efficiency and simplicity. The meals are not for the faint of heart. There's nothing healthy about the food or anything particularly daring, but it's still very good. Can't leave each time without grabbing a bottle of their honey!

I have to update this review after coming there in the winter. The only place to wait is outside. If you clay and inside the door you will be told to wait outside, even if it is 30 degrees outside and you have small children. The problem could be resolved by removing one large table from the front of the restaurant, but more tables = more $. I also heard the manager curse this visit. That behavior is out of character for the family atmosphere portrayed. The chicken is still delicious though.

After having been to numerous other Babe's locations, this was my first trip to the semi-mothership in Roanoke. I went with my Friday work "lunch bunch" on a slightly drizzly day, but our spirits were high, knowing what was to come. Some folks have complained that the meat choices are limited here, but hey, really, fried chicken and chicken fried steak are really all you'd want, aren't they? Most of our group selected the CFS, and our awesome server (whose name, sadly, escapes me) proceeded to make the meal happen. We got our water and iced tea, followed by that green leafy stuff (not sure what that is; I think someone says that it's "salad"). Shortly thereafter, the good stuff started coming: Biscuits, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn and, of course, that awesome CFS. If you've been to Babe's before, you know what this was like; it's as good as ever. My standby "dessert" consists of a split biscuit with butter on both halves, and a little honey on one half and some sorghum on the other; it was a great topper to a great meal. If you've never had Babe's, you need to check them out, and this is a good location if you're in the neighborhood.

Loooove this place. If you're not watching what you're eating and love some southern fried chicken..or steak, this is the place to eat. Sides are all family style and unlimited, so generally you over eat. Often joked that we needed wheelchairs to get out of this place. This isn't a place I could frequent often but every once in a while is a-ok with me. Good food/good serice/good prices. Only thing that could be better is if they had a few 'heathier' options but it is the orginal and they're not going to change the menu. Fair enough..

We love Babe's. Anytime we have family or friends from out of town visit, we take them here. Consistent, good food and service.

Love this place! Ranch style cooking. You pick a meat and they bring the sides. Each babes has different meat options. It is well known for their chicken fried steak which is super yummy! But some babes locations serve roast. The sides are limitless! Mashed potatoes, corn, salad (iceburg eh) and the best biscuits ever! Ever in Texas check for a babes near you. Later in the evening it starts crowding and there is a wait, I recommend before 5.

You had me at endless mashed potatoes! Great homestyle food, service, prices! Music and atmosphere capped a great meal experience.

We go here maybe 3 times a year. Its like you are eating at home. Pick your Chicken or Chicken fried steak and they bring all the sides to your table then refill if needed. Lots of food. Fun décor, Not real cheap but worth it occasionally.

Really great little classic Texan place. Fried chicken or chicken fried steak are the only options. All served with salad, amazing biscuits, sweet corn, mashed potatoes, & gravy. The only thing not to like is the calorie count - but you don't go to Babes to diet!! I believe it's BYOB. Servers are friendly & efficient. Only reason I knocked off one star is for being a tad too country for me. Dirty knife (happily got me a new one), kindof sticky tables. That's just me! The food won't disappoint!!!

  • Tina D.

Not my favorite the so called salad is lettuce with overly sweet vinegar, the mashed potatoes were instant with sour cream mixed in it and you can't split the chicken which I am one to eat a leg so one star

  • Katherine H.

This is one of those places where you have to review it for what it is. This is not fancy dining, it'll never win a Michelin star; it isn't trying to, either. It's a gluten-intolerant's greatest nightmare--pure temptation after temptation. It's worth the hours of intense stomach pain afterwards, too... This is some of the best fried chicken you will ever eat. It is crunchy and salty before it hits a pocket of lava hot steam and then tender, juicy, delightful hot chicken. Sides are corn, salad, mashed potatoes, biscuits, gravy, and sorghum, etc. The biscuits made this gluten-free girl break into a quivering mass of stomachaching gratitude. The salad was the perfect crisp palate washing sugar-vinegar that is so unexpectedly needed for this heavy meal. We rolled out of the fun country decor to make way for another table in a very very long line. I'll be back...

No menu here. If you want that you have to go to the Carrollton Babe's It's either chicken or chicken friend steak at O.G. Babe's. I'm not into deep fried hamburger so I always go with chicken. Mashed potatoes, gravy, and fried chicken are a few of my many vices in life. This place defines indulgent. Biscuits here are great. Wish they had green beans instead of creamed corn. Also wish they made spicy fried chicken. Service is awesome. Babe's gives Amish land a run for its money when it comes to this kind of food.

  • Tammy W.

Homecooked fried chicken and chicken fried steak without all the mess and work. Whether you dine I. Or take out the portions are generous and the flavors can't be beat. There's almost always a line on the weekends so head out early if you're hungry. The diner has a byob policy and as long as you ask they'll bring you unlimited sides and the staff is very friendly and interactive with kids. The only place I'd recommend over this Babe's is one of the newer locations that also offers mesquite smoked chicken and a few other options, it's all just delicious!

So good, it's really not fair that it's so far from me. Here, you get either a choice of fried chicken or chickent fried steak. My friend had the CFS and I did the fried chicken. I thought my meal was excellent. Great service, cozy environment, amazing food quality. Simple choices so no menu to deal with and a very low price. I really can't say enough about how much I like this place. Say hi to Rick the farmer while you're there! I got to sit with him. He doesn't say or eat much, but still fun to be with :) Don't think, just go!

Simple menu with big taste! Best fried chicken I've ever had and the corn is delicious!!!! Love the location too. Super cute area for date night.

This may be the coolest restaurant on earth. For around $12, you can get a mountain of fried chicken or chicken fried steak, plus unlimited sides of salad, mashed potatoes, corn, and biscuits. Listen carefully... do not even think about filling up on the delicious sides ... don't do it. The chicken here is so mind blowingly delicious that you don't want to waste a single bite of your appetite on anything else. Order a stack of fried chicken AND chicken fried steak and eat like it's your last day before a hunger strike. There's a line to get a table? No problem, just bring a cooler of beers because it's BYOB and they allow you to drink on the patio while you wait. I love this place, I can't wait to come back with a cooler of beers for another memorial night.

I love Babes; the best fried chicken ever. I resently visited my Mom in Wimberley, TX for her birthday and asked her is she needed anything and she said,"Babes Fried Chicken from Roanoke". She laughed and said she had a craving for it. I called Babes and asked if I could just buy chicken and not the meal and the answer was yes to my surprise. It was around $6.00 for 4 pieces which was a great price. I picked up the chicken and off to Wimberley I went. The dining experience at Babes is one of a kind, but when you are hungry for it, try their take our service. When you go in the door, walk up to the reception stand on the right; it is just for take out orders. Also, the parking in front of Babes is for Take Out only so they even offer a quick way to park, get in and get out, in just a few minutes. Great Service and Great Chicken!!!!

OMG! Went here and first things first, EXCELLENT customer service! The staff was very attentive and provided a unique dining experience. The food was phenomenal, everything from their country fried steak and Sachs side individually I could next get enough of. Portions were gigantic, if I could have finished it i would have. I specifically was looking for the best Southern spot in Keller and this place has been the best ever! You should go! Trust me you will be extremely happy that you did :D

Best chicken anywhere! This place is BYOB, brought some Rahr & Son's beer with. Great tangy buttermilk mashed potatoes, killer cream corn, and biscuits you can't beat.

  • Lauren R.

The atmosphere is so cute and southern. Love it! So you've got two options: fried chicken or chicken fried steak. And then you get creamed corn, biscuits, gravy, and mashed potatoes. The chicken is delicious ,and the chicken fried steak is nice as well. I mean how do you mess that up?? I think this place is a dining experience along with a complementary atmosphere. You can find great fried chicken at many other places! But it's fun to go with friends and family since it's family style and everything. Personally, as much as I love the taste of fried chicken, it makes me feel horrible. So I prefer the other babes locations since they serve smoked chicken which is so so good to me. Perfect texture and tenderness matched with a delectable smoky flavor. The service is very good and quick, along with the ever-present southern hospitality! I would say check this Place out if you are looking for something fun to eat or if your ravenous since the portions are quite large. It's a little pricy (about 10-12$) a person ,but they give you a lot of food.

I don't think there is enough words to describe how amazing this place. The atmosphere may look a little rough and hectic but the food is amazing. My favorite restaurant in the entire United States and I hope to have it at my wedding! The one is roanoake is the original Babes and I find it also tastes the best!

I was in Texas visiting my best friend and his family suggested coming to Babe's. I have to say it is some of the best fried chicken and sides that I have ever had. Love the feel of the restaurant and the staff was A+++. Thanks for a great meal and it is a must stop if you are ever in the area.

Very delicious. Location is excellent, close to everything in Roanoke. Family and I came in for Sunday brunch, we received excellent service. There are only two items on the menu, chicken fried steak or fried chicken. Both very good. Unlimited sides. Their salad and creamed corn are amazing. Be prepared for wait on the busier days.

First time to this location. I have been a regular at the Sanger and Garland (my favorite) locations, so my comparison is mostly to Garland. Super efficient service to the point of feeling rushed. The bill was dropped about two minutes after the chicken after a couple of hurried "can I get you anything else" questions. The seats here are really close together since there is less real estate than at other locations. It is a little uncomfortable. The Biscuits tasted better and less floury but were a bit over cooked and crunchy. The corn was less creamy (I consider that a good thing) and less seasoned (also a good thing). The mashed potatoes and gravy were both perfect. No green beans or beans like Garland. Also no ribs available. I knew that going in, but it is still a fail. I like the ribs as an option as me and my kids will split ribs and chicken. The chicken was great, and that is what I go to Babe's for. It was a little darker and crispier than other locations. Not sure if that is good or bad. I think I would prefer just a little bit more chew to the skin. The other issues I mentioned are what makes Garland a 5 and this location a 4.

  • Manuel S.

Great location, the place looks good, very "American". Service was also very good. The food is great, best fried chicken I've had. The menu is simple and the corn is sinful. I have a large family, so it gets expensive... If you consider that is only fried chicken.. But good chicken!!

Freakin' fantastic Fried Chicken!! Awesome service! The server was super friendly, helpful, and attentive. Everything here is awesome! This is my absolute favorite fried chicken joint and Kansas City has several famous ones. They have nothing on Babe's! The chicken is crunchy on the outside, super moist on the inside and they give each person a drumstick, wing, thigh, and a breast. The sides of salad, biscuits, corn, & mashed potatoes and gravy are all delicious and remind me of eating at my Grandma's. Way more than I can eat and for a great price! I was actually pleasantly surprised when we got the check. After having to eat out many times while traveling with a family of four this was a break on my wallet. You don't feel ripped off when you have to pay big bucks for a mediocre meal. This place makes me want to drive all the way from KC just for a chicken dinner!

Love the simplicity of Babes. Both meat choices are consistently excellent along with the homemade biscuits and sides. The milk gravy is my favorite!

  • Robin C.

The service was friendly and very prompt. The atmosphere was eclectic but fun. In addition the price was reasonable considering all the food you were served. Pretty sure everything is made in house and fresh. The salad had a tasty sweet dressing, the creamed corn was delicious, the biscuits were moist and yummy, the mashed potatoes had good flavor but were a little thin for my personal taste however my husband thought that they were fine, the gravy was thick and flavorful, the chicken was amazing. The batter had perfect flavor and was crunchy without being excessively overwhelming. Everything was served family style and HOT (except the salad of course)! I am ruined on KFC and the like. We will definitely stop again when we are in the area.

I've been to 3 different locations with nothing but great reviews. With that being said, I have recommended Babes to everyone I know. I'm so disappointed to hear that my own mother was pretty much turned away bc she was told that each individual person had to order something? I have never been there with only 2 people, but I wouldn't have thought it would be such a difficult task. Unfortunately, my mother and her guest and to go elsewhere b/c of what they were told. Doesn't make sense to me, that they were told they were NOT allowed to order a single order of chicken between the 2 of them. But, this made me upset to hear. Will be pretty hard to get my family out there again.

The dinner was very good as usual tonight. Our waitress didn't seem to be very observant to our needs. We had to ask for several common items of our meal tonight because they were not given to us. The second half of our meal time she was better. A little disappointing in the service tonight, but like I said the food was very good. 2 1/2 stars for service, I rounded up.

Babe's seriously has a big cult following in the DFW metroplex. The first time I heard someone mention Babe's at work, it was like they were professing their undying love. Their eyes were glazed over and it was like every passing person who heard the name Babe's had to stop and their eyes went ga-ga too, so I had to give this place a go. Luckily for me, the company I worked for decided to pay for us to go to dinner and Babe's won hands down. I was super excited to give this place a whirl and became even more excited when I saw the cute restaurant. As we tucked into our table I remember seeing what had to be some of the biggest pieces of chicken I ever seen in my life. Also, there was plenty of fluffy biscuits which are a huge weak spot for me. Let me tell you, the biscuits were to die for. Extremely delicious, flaky and they are unlimited. Yay! On both occasions I went there I gave two different entree items a try. The first time was their legendary friend chicken and the second time was the chicken fried chicken The chicken, while beautifully cooked, was not well seasoned. I know some people will scream blasphemy, but I don't play around when it comes to frying chicken. All of the seasoning was very surface and that was extremely disappointing. To their credit though, the pieces were well cooked and was juicy. The chicken fried steak I tried on my second visit was just okay. Again, I felt that the seasoning could have been more complex, but it wasn't bad. For sides I had the mashed potatoes (very good) and a salad. Unfortunately the salad was made with iceberg lettuce- ewww. So basically the best I can rate Babe's is that it is okay. I have not been back since my two company visits, but I would not rule it out. You will get extremely friendly service and your food won't take long to get to you at all. Even better, everyone in the restaurant seems to be having a good time which lends for a nice vibe. Unfortunately it still can't make up for a missing flavor profile.

Great chicken, biscuits, and gravy!!!! Super greasy, fattening, and delicious!!! Do not come here if you're counting calories!! We've been here twice, and both times the food was amazing!!! We love bringing out of state company here... It's a great experience!

  • Taylor L.

If you want good Southern comfort food, this is definitely a good place to go. My boyfriend and I shared the fried chicken. While the fried chicken and the sides were good, they weren't as good as the rave reviews on Yelp led me to believe they would be. Maybe this is just a classic case of something being overly built-up and then not being able to live up to all the hype. The fried chicken was good, but we both found it to be a bit overcooked on the outside & therefore more dry than we would like it on the inside. The rolls were friggin' awesome, though. Loved them!! I was also very disappointed in the salad. I just don't understand why anyone would serve a salad with just iceberg lettuce in it. It has absolutely no nutritional value whatsoever...so it's not like you're being healthy in the slightest by eating it....but that's just my opinion.

    (4)
  • Victoria G.

For fried chicken, mash potatoes, cream or corn this is the place! The chicken was moist, and the potatoes were delicious! The salad was only iceberg but the dressing was delightfully light and sweet. Customer service was 5star which I always appreciate!

  • David G.

Really enjoyed this place. Been here a few times, and it's always been great. The ambiance is awesome -- very casual and down-home. The menu is super simple, and the food (quantity and quality) more than delivers. Waitstaff is pretty friendly as well. There are other locations, and while I've never tried those, I think this one is worth driving to just because it's what you'd expect of "home cooking" (in my opinion, at least).

  • Salma R.

AMAZING. Upon visiting Texas, every person I have spoken to recommended Babe's. And now I understand why. Everything was perfect-creamed corn, biscuits (to die for), gravy, salad (with perfect dressing), and mashed potatoes (yum). The chicken-fried steak was so so delicious. Portions are huge and the sides are unlimited. Our waitress was also extremely friendly and service was quick! It was completely full on a Thursday night and we only had to wait 10 minutes for a table. I would definitely suggest Babe's to any local or tourist in the area. Will definitely be going back again once I digest everything! Update: I had to go back a second time to try the fried chicken. It included a wing, thigh, breast, and drumstick (with unlimited sides, of course). This was essentially equivalent to half of a chicken. Still good but I prefer the chicken-fried steak.

I had the chicken fried steak meal and it was delicious. . The sides it came with were mashed potatoes, corn and biscuits. All were very good. The service was excellent.

Babes fried chicken is the best fried chicken around! Our family loves this place! I love the fact we can also call in the order as well! The amt of food they give u is generous! The sides are all very good and compliment the chicken. They take call in reservations!

Been eating here for years. The menu is pretty basic, just fried chicken and chicken fried steak, but when you do it as well as they do that's all you need. It's very clean and the service is very good, we almost feel like family. The fried chicken is amazing, best I have ever had. It's very popular so we go a little off peak, expect to wait at peak times. You have to wait outside which my not be something you want during our hot summers. I believe if you try it once you will be back over and over again.

    (5)
  • David A.

Wow. Forgot how well this place executes! Great experience. Waited about 20 minutes then they are a machine. We ordered three fried chicken dinners. In under 2 minutes, a big bowl of salad. It's iceberg lettuce dressed with vinegar and lots of sugar. Yum. Then the hot biscuits come. Pour on some honey or molasses on the table. Killer. A few minutes later, a huge plate of fried chicken and bowls of mashed potatoes, creamed corn and gravy. All sides and biscuits are refilled so eat away. Everything is off the charts. You are sure to overeat. And it is worth it. You are out of here in a half hour and completely satisfied (with leftovers!).

  • Lisa W.

There is absolutely nothing I can add that hasn't already been said. This place is beyond delightful and a delicious, enjoyable experience for the whole family. The Chicken Fried Steak was out of this world and the Fried Chicken tasted like it came right out of your southern grandma's cast iron pan! Lip smacking good! Personally, I fell madly in love with the mashed potatoes and creamed corn which, sadly only for my waistline, were unlimited. We seriously feasted like pioneer royalty! This is my new go to place any time I'm visiting the area. Thankfully, I have family in nearby Watauga & Bedford, so I'll be visiting often! :-)

Anyone who says they know of a better place for fried chicken is a LIAR!!! You will wait to get sat and there's darn good reason for it! If you're there before 7, check out the local town museum/visitor's center, half a block north of the restaurant. The service is always friendly, the food is always plentiful, and while the ambiance may not be what you're looking for on your regular date night, it's enough to make for a fun evening out. Really, this is where you want to take out of town relatives when they come to Texas, no matter how far the drive. It's 110% worth it.

Better bring your appetite to the original Babes in Roanoke (which is such a cute little town in itself). This place has the best fried chicken that I have ad in a very long time, which was validated by the line outside the door on a Saturday afternoon! Everything is served family style by pleasant servers! I could eat there more often except I'd be as big as a barn because the food is soooo good!

  • Gonzalo G.

My god, the food here is to die for and I don't say that about many places. I ordered the chicken fried steak and it was so delicious. For sides, we had mash potatoes, corn, and fantastic biscuits. The fried steak is very tender and very easy to eat. At other places I've eaten at, their fried steak has that rubbery feel sometimes, but not at Babe's. Here, it's easy to cut and easy to eat. Biscuits with honey, I was in heaven, that's how good they are. The staff was very attentive. She maid sure we had something to eat if we were running low and our cups were filled at all times. If you ever make it to this area, you need to stop by at Babe's for lunch.

Love this restaurant! So friendly and fun! Love the atmosphere and the waitresses are very sweet. Love the sides and the salad! The chicken was very crispy and well breaded and cooked. but the seasoning of the chicken was a little bland. The first time i came here, i thought the same thing. Second time confirmed it. my bf said the same and he is very sensitive to salt so i was actually surprised he can tell the chicken was kind of bland. So when i eat the chicken, i def had to sprinkle salt all over. but it is still good! a bit pricey for fried chicken though.

Best chicken spot around. Don't waste your time going to any other babe's. This is the original and still the best!

  • Matt G.

The food is fantastic! If you dine in, it is all you can eat sides. The wait for a table can be ridiculous. We called in an order to go. Came with plenty of sides. Wait staff is fun. Do not go here if you want a quiet salad! Parking can be a chore if you go on a Friday evening.

This is where it started! First Babe's opened in Roanoke, this exact building? Dunno, but this is where my love affair started as well. Simply, crispy, delish fried chicken! A little sad there were no green beans here, as found in other locations, but I guess we can do without the green vegetable. It was darkish in here but no one needs to see the grease running off your face anyway.

    (3)
  • Nicole F.

Always excellent!! I do wish this location had the green beans and dessert choices though. Otherwise...Biscuits, good! Chicken, good! Gravy, good! Chicken Fried Steak, good! Service, good! Our waitress even got my "nobody puts baby in a corner" joke when we put the baby...well, in a corner!

Holy cow! This place made me want to sing. They have two options- the four pc chicken or the chicken fried steak. Of course I opted for the latter. Each plate comes with salad, fresh biscuits, creamed corn, mashed potatoes, and gravy served family style. I couldn't stop eating even when my buttons begged for mercy. I'll be back.

The best chicken in the US, hands down! I fly from Miami to Forth Worth just to eat here & visit with friends of course, but Babes sits on top of the priority list. The food is tasty, fresh & the service is always outstanding.

  • Dona S.

Oh my gosh this place was fantastic! The chicken was sooo yummy and so were all the sides. Served family style and we were stuffed when we left. Wish they would sell the dressing for their salad. Next time I come back to Texas I will be back. Staff was great too! They do close at 2pm and then open back up for dinner. Sure glad we got there before they closed for siestas.

There is a reason this place has a line to get in. The chicken here is simply delicious! I enjoyed the texture, and spices of the chicken. The sides complimented the meal perfectly, especially the biscuits. The service was prompt and courteous. I would like to know if chicken gets better than this.

    (5)
  • Brian A.

Yep, it is as good as you have heard. Creamed corn is the bomb too! I went in with my niece and nephew because they used to sing hokey pokey and all that and I thought the kids would get a kick out of it but they never did.

So, I'm in Westlake for some company training and there is literally nothing around here but ranches. Well, I guess there is Trophy Club across the freeway, but otherwise, it's bare. So, when my cousin drove all the way from Dallas to have dinner, we Yelped what was "nearby." Fortunately, there was Babe's! Thank God. Walking into Babe's really made me feel like I was in the South. We walked in while the servers were doing the Hokey Pokey. The place was pretty packed at 8, but we were still seated immediately. Food - family style. You can choose from Fried Chicken (4 pieces) or Country Fried Steak. It also includes biscuits, salad, mashed potatoes, and creamed corn. OMG. I am not even a huge fan of fried chicken, but it was AMAZING. Super crispy, but not overly oily. I also loved the creamed corn. The biscuits were a bit dry :/ The service was super friendly (we stayed late until 9:30 and they only subtly made this known to us). Beware of the large craters in the parking lot adjacent to the restaurant, though!!

Best fried chicken there is in Texas. That's a high praise I know but I mean it! I don't make a trip to the DFW area without stopping at a Babe's. In fact... it's crossed my mind to make a trip to DFW just to go to Babe's!

This location needs to start serving chicken tenders. The regular chicken is too greasy and the tenders tend to be less greasy. The sides are, as always, awesome. I live nearby this location but rarely go because of the lack of tenders. I usually end up having to drive to Sanger or Carrollton. Please add tenders!

Tried Babe's chicken dinner, take out this weekend because of yelp review. Good fried chicken, not my favorite biscuits, i like mine crisp on the out side and light and fluffy on the inside, theirs are much heavier and dense. But the main disappointment was the mashed potatoes which were dehydrated boxed, not real potatoes!! No restaurant should serve fake mashed potatoes!!! Im shocked that TX folks think this is good food!!

I love Babe's! It's so good and it's also a really good go-to for dinner. The staff is always really nice when we go there and we've never had bad service. Sometimes it is a little crowded, but if you tasted the food you would know why. Haven't had a chance to go in a while, but I am ALWAYS in the mood for Babe's.

I almost hate to do this, but I'm jumping on the Babe's bandwagon! Why would I hate to do this? Because I really don't do fried food. I'll make an exception for Babe's, though. Their fried chicken was DE-licious! I ate my entire serving of chicken, although minus most of the crust. Some might question why someone would pick off the 'best part'. For some fried chicken, the crust is the best part over flavorless, dried out meat. At Babe's, the chicken shines under that crust. It's super-moist with tons o' flavor. I did eat some of the crust to check it out and it was good, but if you want to get out of there minus cardiac arrest, you might want to pick off some, too. In addition to the chicken, you get all you can eat lo-cal sides like mashed potatoes and gravy (potatoes were kind of meh and overly buttery; gravy was decent), buttered corn (not bad), a weird iceberg lettuce salad with a sweet dressing (very surprisingly not bad. I was super-shocked that I did not hate this. Note: Save some for a 'palate cleanser' after all the buttery sides. You can thank me later.), and biscuits (good by themselves, but even better with the sorghum molasses). Me and the Hubs came here on a Monday for lunch with some out-of-town visitors and there was no line and no wait to get a table. We were seated immediately. Our server was very friendly and efficient. The food came out quickly, so there wasn't too much time breathing in the fried chicken scent from around us and drooling on ourselves while we waited. The restaurant itself is cute and very kitschy country/western - as it should be for this kind of place. My only word of caution is if you've never been here before and need to make a trip to the restroom, have someone show you where the doors are! They're so camouflaged it's like they're part of the wall. I walked up and down the hall 3 or 4 times looking for the door. Fortunately someone that works there pointed out where they are, else I may still be looking...

Somehow this place is my favorite although it is planted in the middle of 3 other 4-star eateries. I have visited this location twice and the one in Burlington (south of Ft Worth) once. At both venues, the fried chicken entree would easily be listed for my last meal! Reasons to go: 1) Great food! Some of the best Texan cuisine I have ever eaten outside of my wife's and mother's cooking. They are on point quality and quantity. 2) Efficient and knowledgeable staff! 3) Home style atmosphere that matches the food. Ladies with Texas accents, sweet dispositions (most of the time), old time (1930's-1990's) country played but not overly loud, very themed decor...over all cool. 4) If no one in your family cooks like this and you are in the area, then this should be a box on your Texas checklist. Reasons to avoid: 1) The restaurant is amiable for family and romantic couples, so expect long lines especially on Friday and Saturday evenings. 2) On our first visit (my wife and I), we had one young lady server who had an attitude of irritability and frustration because we were not familiar with the routine. Babe's offers a choice of two entrees and a variety of sides and there is a choice. My wife has an allergy to high fructose corn syrup (liquid fun). Besides that one minor 'seriously?' moment, Babe's service is good. They usually hire staff that is competent and friendly. After going back there twice, we found that the first disappointing service was an anomaly. 3) Great place to take granny and gramps, but be advised it may be best to drop them off at the door and then go park in whatever lot you are blessed to find. Seems like the best places always have issues with parking and lines at prime times. 4) If you have heart or cholesterol issues, this is NOT the place to go. Paula Dean herself would be aghast at the amount of butter, lard, and oil that is used to prepare the food.

Very popular place, especially on weekends. My son and I had to wait about 20 minutes to get in. One order was enough for the two of us. There are no real options on the menu. If you like fried chicken with a super crispy skin, this is the place. However I like my chicken thoroughly seasoned and this doesn't quite fit the bill.

One of our favorite places to bring family and friends when they come to visit. Generally there is a wait but well worth the wait. The chicken and chicken fried steak is amazing.... Family style unlimited servings of creamed corn, mashed potatoes, and salad make this great for large groups of people!

Incredible! This place hit the mark. Probably the best fried chicken in the business. Highly recommend bringing the kids, 6 and under can eat for free from sides (sides unlimited). Over ate but that's alllrigght! Don't plan on eating here if your worried about calories. Just plain'ol American goodness is all your going to find in this place!

Love this place. You eat all the food and they bring you more. My 13 year old who can eat like a horse helps me come out ahead. The fried chicken and Chicken Fried Steak are both freakin awesome. I really wish the wait wasn't so long. they need to expand or something.

I love this place when I was in Texas. I really miss eating chicken at this restaurant. If you ever visit Texas, you have to try this restaurant. It is 10 time better than Roscoe Chicken and Waffle in California.

I was on the hunt for the best chicken fried steak in DFW for Fathers Day. After some research I found Babes and YEEEEEHAAWWWW this place was awesome. Babes has the BEST corn I have ever eaten in my life. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. It was a party in my stomach. The best part was my Dad said "that was good", and let me tell ya that is the best review any resturant could ask for because he hardly ever says that......great job Babes!

This is probably my favorite restaurant of all. I have tried chicken fried steak all over the country and this is the best. Mashed potatoes and biscuits are awesome. I really enjoy the family style dining with the atmosphere, it feels like going to Grandmas house for Sunday dinner. Don't forget to try the sorghum syrup, it is delicious.

Family friends took us to Babe's on a recent visit to Fort Worth. It's one of their favorite places, and I wish I could visit Texas just to eat at this place. The salad - iceberg lettuce with oil and vinegar - was fantastic. I don't normally like biscuits or gravy, but both were delicious! I didn't try the creamed corn, but everyone else loved it. The mashed potatoes were also great. You can choose between fried chicken or chicken-fried steak. We all had fried chicken and it was SO good! We even had leftovers to take home after. The wait was a little long, but they were great about accommodating our party of 10.

I visited Babes for the first time last week. Chicken is DELICIOUS!!! You get 4 pieces of fried chicken, all you can eat salad, creamed corn, mashed potatoes, gravy and hot biscuits for $11.99!!! Yes all of those sides are all you can eat. Though we honestly didn't take advantage of this because sides are served family style and was PLENTY for my sis, 3 year old niece and I. If you want to split the chicken and sides you will be charged $11.99 for the 1st person and $6.00 (sides only) for the second person. Makes sense just to order 2 full meals and take the yummy chicken home :-) Service was great! Our waitress was joking with us and always had a smile. Wish I could remember her name. The girl at the cash register was also super nice. I love friendly service. The atmosphere is kind of pieced together to give the place an authentic country feel. Lots of fun signs to read. I usually like a place to look better BUT for this chicken I would almost eat in an occupied barn. The only thing this place is missing is dessert! If they were serving pecan pie in here it would set it off!!!!! Also, I hear some of the other locations serve catfish. If they served catfish that tastes as the chicken does here I would sleep here.....

GREAT chicken.. who can ask for more!

I've been going to Babes as long as I can remember and all the times I've gone I've had an amazing time eating delicious fried chicken as I loosened my belt a few notches. This last time, however, something was slightly off, causing me to not give Babe's the 5 stars it usually deserves... My friends and I came on a Tuesday evening and the place was absolutely PACKED. I understand that this is a popular place but on a Tuesday? An hour wait at 7:15pm? Woah. My friends waited outside in the sweltering heat (as there is no place with which to wait inside) and were seated luckily only 30 minutes after we had put our name on the list. Our cheerful waitress came and took our drink orders and our food orders (there are only 2 choices on their non-existent menu so it's not that difficult) and we waited for our drinks. We waited, waited, and waited some more. We thought that our waitress had gone to Plano to the Dr. Pepper factory to get our drinks as it took that long. I understand the place was busy but jeez! 15 minutes later our drinks, biscuits and salad came and finally we were happy. (We brought a bottle of vodka; it is BYOB by the way), spiked our drinks and were happy customers once more. Soon thereafter, our food came and we were all sent into a fried chicken, creamed corn, mashed potatoes, food coma/ nirvana. I soon began to understand why the wait was so long on a Tuesday. I hadn't been here in such a long time and I was so happy that I was back eating such delicious comfort American food. I'm being hard on Babe's; I'm getting frustrated with it because I had to wait so long. Ultimately I was treated to such a fantastic meal that satisfied my ever-so-often craving for delicious fried chicken. Well done, Babes; well done.

Ok hold on, is this place even real? I just couldn't believe how delicious and fresh every item was. And the service was also above average. I wasn't expecting much other than some home cooked food, but Babe's delivered on the atmosphere as well. It was very warm and welcoming. Kind of like being in Grandma's kitchen with her plethora of kitchy decorum. Everything is served up family style which means you should prepare yourself and not eat all day. That way, you can have five helpings of mashed potatoes among other things. I definitely will be back when I come to Texas again.

Good stuff. I had the fried chicken and it had the crispy/fatty skin and breading that I was craving. I didn't much care for the potatoes - library paste like and too salty for my taste. The corn was good. The salad, OK. The biscuits a disappointment. They were flat and a bit greasy with a really distinctive metallic flavor. Actually in truth they tasted like Bisquick to me. Good iced tea, cheerful service. All in all a decent experience - and it is close to work so I can see a few lunch time trips

This place is a North Texas institution and really ought to be entered into the national register somehow. I usually don't visit Babe's Chicken House more than twice a year because, you know, I like to keep my blood flowing smoothly as I get older, but when the time for a visit comes around, I look forward to it like Christmas! In fact, we've been going to Babe's every New Year's Day for several years now (complete with black-eyed-peas on the menu), in addition to sparse summertime visits, and this place deserve high marks for simply staying consistent with their menu, service and family style serving concept. This location's menu is limited to their awesome fried chicken or chicken fried steak (plus the sides) and both are ridiculously tasty and it's hard to not inhale everything as soon as it hits the table. The mashed potatoes and gravy are the very definition of comfort food and I would watch a three-hour documentary film on the biscuits alone, they're that good. Personally, I'd skip the sugar-water salad that opens the meal; it has little nutritional value and ends up just being filler. And it's not like you're here for nutritional value anyway. The servers are mostly youngsters and they do a good job off bringing out the massive quantities of food quickly and keep the goodies flowing. Be nice to them and you might find yourself with extra biscuits. Special Note: This review and rating is for the original Roanoke location only. The other locations around the Metroplex are a little too gimmicky, lack the genuine charm of this location and attempt too broad an appeal. I would not give those locations more than 4 stars on a good visit. Babe's Bonuses: * BYO - Bring your favorite beer or wine pairing (ha!); they can provide ice at the table to keep things chilled * The jukebox is free; get up and dance to the Hokey Pokey and you get a "Babe's Superstar" sticker (totally not making this up) * Be prepared to wait.

I went to this dump because it got really good reviews on yelp which almost never fails me. This place is terrible. You only have two options: deep fried steak or deep fried chicken. I would strongly recommend anyone who wants fried chicken to hit KFC. You will get a better meal for less. Also, the service is terrible. It literally blows my mind that over 140 people rated this place 4.5 stars. Wonder why obesity is the biggest health problem in this country

You really just can't find better fried chicken than this! If you are already a fan of Babes like myself you will want to know that this location does not serve their super yummy green beans. I was a little disappointed until the biscuits arrived and they are better than all the other Babes so all is still right with the world. When looking for the restrooms don't bother looking for a real door in the long hallway, just look for the Women sign on the left and push on the wall for the secret restroom door to open up. Super cool place! One of my favorite Babes!

Pros: Great food, great portions, lots and lots of fun Cons: Loud, rowdy, very country I went to college down at Texas Christian University (TCU) in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. One thing I miss a lot about Texas is the food. Some of the best food I've ever had was in the metroplex. Babe's Chicken, albeit not fancy and formal, is one of my favorite places to eat in Texas. The place is always packed to the gills, but it's worth the wait. Once you sit down with your beer (it's BYOB) a beautiful waitress (they all are here) will come to take your order. Fried chicken and chicken fried steak are your two choices. After you make a selection, you'll get unlimited mashed potatoes and gravy, fresh biscuits, salad and creamed corn. It's just like going over to grandma's on a Sunday afternoon, except grandma's not home. The waitresses dance and sing, kids run around, tons of stuff is on the wall... it's crazy and a bit chaotic, but it's all awesome. The food is delicious and will leave you satisfied and with plenty to take home for later. I wouldn't come here for a date or if you have an important meeting, but if you want somewhere that's laid back, informal and memorable, get some friends and head on over to Babes for a rollicking good time.

Texas. Fried. Good. Great. Wonderful. Ridiculous. Awesome exterior, PACKED inside. Looks like a small town's most popular diner/bar/whatevs that you'd drive through on your way to someplace fabulous. Walk in, sit down with our 6 pack of beer. BYOB. Servers are doing line dancing. Kids are running a muck. Walls are over crowded with pictures, posters, strange plates....basically anything you can think of. It's on their wall. There's probably a banana peel if I looked close enough. Wait about 10 minutes. Sit. Waitress approaches... Waitress: Welcome to Babes, we serve two things and that's it. Fried Chicken and Chicken Fried Steak, take your pick. It comes with never ending mashed potatoes, cream gravy, green salad, corn, and homemade biscuits. I'll be back in 5 see which you want. Allison: Call 911, I think I'm having a heart attack. BF: We'll call after we eat. Allison: Ok. 5 Min later Waitress: Have you decided? Allison: I'll have the chicken fried steak BF: Fried Chicken 3 minutes later ENORMOUS amunt of food delivered, steaming hot. Smells that will make you pass out (in a good way). We have about 6 plates on our table for the two of us. Waitress: Can I bring you anything else? Allison: Um, I THINK we're ok BF: *mouth full* mmhmmm 20 minutes later Waitress: Thanks for coming, feel free to join our line dancing. Allison and BF: Um, next time for sure. Total bill: $23.76 Total time spent at Babes: 45 minutes Total experience: Simple, no fluff. Great homecooked food. Allison: Call 911

Coming from South Florida, I can say for certain that after eating here I will never eat fried chicken again. It was that good. Nothing will ever compare to the experience of BYOB, the sides and the general atmosphere. I've been to North Carolina and to other southern food staple areas and none came close to this. Sad to say that I was only in the area for business and may never have the pleasure of retuning. One of the few meals in my life where words and a review don't do it justice.

Take an aspirin, save your appetite, and get there early as this charming country kitchen serves some amazingly tasty, heart attack worthy comfort food with some true southern hospitality! Don't expect to order from a selection of items because they serve just the one menu, and they serve it well! Before the meal, they serve an unlimited helping of sweet dressed tasty salad, although I'd save some of that appetite for the rest of the meal. Their two main dishes are their famous fried chicken and chicken fried steak which are served with country style mashed potatoes and gravy, "Grandmas" cream corn, and some amazing buttermilk biscuits with butter, honey, molasses, and sorghum. Aside from their amazing food and service, the atmosphere of the old warehouse built in 1908 consists of mismatched old restaurant chairs, hidden door bathrooms, a free jukebox, and all kinds of other unique decorations from the original building and other local establishments. Another cool thing they do is allow you to bring your own beer! As I said, get there early because the whole area knows how good this place is too. If you find yourself on the waiting list for an hour, there are some neat little shops around the area to check out while your waiting or you can sit on your cooler and drink some beer.

Disclaimer: I am only recently a converted lacto-ova-pescatarian, with the exception of land animals that are traceable to a free-range organic farm. That means I eat dairy products, eggs, veggies, and fish but no meat unless it was roaming on a glorious farm. This review is based on a recent trip here, though I still remember eating here when I was an omnivore. Ok back to my review, this place is hands down the very BEST fried chicken you can eat. Large pieces of perfectly fried, browned, crunchy chicken. Heavy helpings of unlimited sides, creamed corn, slaw, salad and biscuits. Honey and my favorite, molasses, are readily available at the cafeteria style tables. Happy to see that REAL butter is offered for the delicious biscuits, as opposed to country crock spread stuff that you would expect to see at a chicken joint. It's so kitschy inside with goofy red-neck-esque road signs and animal head mounts. But there's a charm and warmth here that helps add a feeling of familiarness. Comfort food at it's best...either order the chicken or chicken fried steak....or if you don't eat meat like me, the sides will positively fill you up. Bonus: BYOB Two-word description: KITSCHY COMFORT

2 choices - fried chicken or chicken fried steak. If you're an indecisive diner, this place is very low stress. Sides are included and unlimited, so if you leave hungry it's your own fault. Some of the best biscuits I've ever had, flaky and soft, yet doesn't crumble apart.....great for dipping in gravy or honey.

  • Clay G.

Nothing wrong with the food, even if the choices are limited to fried chicken and chicken fried steak. The wait (outside) can be absurdly long during busy times. Plan ahead and don't expect to be seated quickly.

  • Christina P.

Everything we had here was excellent. That said, you can look at these other reviews or at their website to see descriptions of each of their very few menu items. But I think I've got it covered: The salad dressing was sweet and delicious, different from anything I've ever tasted. The corn was fresh tasting and probably the best I've ever had. I'm not really a big corn person. The biscuits were buttery and beautiful. The potatoes were creamy and delicious, especially with the added gravy. And the chicken... well, I don't think I even have to go there. That covers all of their menu items (except the steak)! You don't really get any choices at Babes, except whether you want fried chicken or chicken fried steak. I deducted a star for not having enough options. While I do appreciate the simplicity of the menu, I'm not sure that a Southern meal can be complete without some mac and cheese. Maybe some okra or green beans to liven things up a bit? And who can beat the prices? 5 of us ate and the bill was like $55 or somewhere around there. On the subject of the number of people in our party (5), you should probably know that Babes serves a whopping 4 pieces of chicken per person in addition to the unlimited amount of sides (at least I'm pretty sure it was unlimited). We walked out stuffed AND took home about half of what was on the plate. 4 pieces per person is over the top! As far as service goes, the service was friendly and great until my grandma told the waitress that I'm from New Jersey and she made a face and told me that Texas is better than the North. But it's not her fault. I blame it on the creators of "Jersey Shore." We're not really like that, guys. Just like Texan's don't all wear cowboys hats or go to the rodeo. Yee-haw Babes! This yankee will be back again some day.

In an old barn like structure, beautiful Texas girls serve you the choice of either fried chicken or chicken fried steak. It's served family style, and you can take everything to go. It's clean, cheap, trendy, and at the same old school texas. I think the waitresses did some kind of line dance while we were there. It kind of reminds me of being on location for the movie Footloose. If you're in the area, GO HERE. Personal negatives: Very limited menu, but that'spart of thecharm, and heavy on the right wing conservative crowd. What would you expect? Your in George Bush country son.

I don't know why people love this place so much... The veggies and sides definitely don't taste fresh (more canned), the salad is a joke, and the oh-so-famous chicken is very blah at best. Maybe because I grew up with homemade southern cooking I'm a little spoiled, but this doesn't hold a candle to any of the real home-style food I've had from TX to TN.

I am not really on the market for either Fried Chicken or Chicken Fried Steak, but if I was this is the place. This little strip in Roanoke would be fun to take anyone, but especially those not from Texas. The meal consisted of iceberg lettuce with a slightly sweet italian dressing. Biscuits that were light, fluffy, and topped your choice of honey or molasses...lightly creamed corn, whipped potatoes that were light and creamy with a flavorful cream gravy on the side. We went with the straight up fried chicken. Though we only ate 3 of the 8 pieces in our order, they were awesome. We may go again next year. Our waitress Nicole was super as well...no reservations so you will probably have to wait...and not in the bar.

G: yum! yum! yum! Their menu consists of fried chicken and chicken fried steak. Small menu but it's the best of the best around here. TX gets this one right. Expect a wait, because everyone knows this as well. We timed it right because we only waited 15 minutes. The hostess told us that there were 200 people waiting yesterday and the block was filled. I can believe it. I loved the sides, especially the corn :D and the biscuits were yummy as well. They keep bringing it out, as much as you want! Everything! Service was great.

OMG. My friend told me this place was delicious (in a most fantastically unhealthy way), but I had no idea! The fried chicken was out of this world! I loved the family-style meal presentation with unlimited mashed potatoes, creamed corn, and bread you simply scoop yourself. Though the chicken is far superior to the side dishes, the long wait was worth it! I'll be making a trip up towards Dallas very soon, and Babe's is definitely on my list!

I love, love , love this place . You pretty much only have two choices ... fried chicken or chicken fried steak . I always go with the fried chicken . I can't really say that I'm a friend chicken expert , having really only KFC or Popeye's or Churches to compare it to, but it's damn good chicken . I also love their sides . Mashed potatoes and corn and salad and biscuits . I would recommend going there during off-peak hours . It can be a pretty brutal wait otherwise .

Friends recommended we try this place and we owe them big time! They only offer a few items, fried chicken and chicken fried steak with sides of mashed potatoes, corn, gravy and biscuits. That may not sound like much but consider that each item is some of the best you've ever had. That's Babe's. They bring you a giant platter of smokin' hot fried chicken and keep it coming til you burst. You'll have a hard time deciding between another piece of chicken and more corn and potatoes. What a wonderfully delicious quandry! Finally...bring your own beer and they'll give you a bucket of ice to keep it cold in. What more could anyone want??

1.) You'll have to wait (it's worth it) 2.) Come starving ... so much food 3.) Creamed corm ... AWESOME 4.) Biscuits ... completely addicting 5.) Fried chicken is crispy and heavenly 6.) Chicken friend steak - I don't think I even took a breath when it arrived to my table 7.) ALL YOU CAN EAT SIDES! I think you'll probably gain 5 pounds eating here but won't regret doing it at all!!! Prepare yourself for this day ... it's an experience! Oh ... BYOB!

The first time I came here, I thought there was about to be a parade because about 100 people were sitting on the sides of all the roads in lawn chairs. I was wrong, they were waiting to get seated. This place is an institution all it's own. 1. People bring chairs and coolers of beers to tailgate while waiting to eat. Love it. Bean bags and card games encouraged. 2. BYODrinks. You can bring your own everything to drink. They have water and tea. Bring anything else you want to drink, no hassle. TIP: there is a convenience store directly next door that sells almost nothing but drinks. 3. Family Dinning brings us all together. Even though each person orders their preferred meat, its served up family style. 4. Any place that charges a cover charge for dinner is my kind of place. They assume you find the food so good, that they should just charge a cover since you'll eat so much. 5. Did I mention the food is so good, you'll want to slap your mama?

One of the best fried chicken I've had in a very long time. I know I will be craving this stuff once I leave town. I was very disappointed with the mashed potatoes/gravy and the biscuits were just not good, I thought these sides would be staple to compliment fried chicken. The corn was good but nothing to write home about. I would have given 5 stars if they served me only the chicken but the sides knocked them down a notch.

Love this place esp after church. The only thing this place is missing is a breakfast menu... As you are pondering... Why not a waffle and wings menu item? hmmm they already have a kick butt chicken recipe. Good food, good service and fun down town to walk around.

i just moved back to texas after 10 years up north, arriving in texas saturday 1/30. I went to babe's sunday 1/31. i hadn't been there since before i moved, so i was nervous that i had built it up in my head. but it was better than i remember. this is babe's: perfectly seasoned and cooked fried chicken, delicious fresh creamed corn, yummy mashed potatoes, and biscuits so pillowy soft that you could sleep on them. oh, and the salad is good too. the service is fine, sometimes you have to wait a little bit while the waitresses do the macarena or the hokey pokey or something, but it's fun and loud and a great place to go for a sunday afternoon casual meal with a gang.

Babes is hands down the best place to go with a large group in the Northern burbs. Selections are easy: fried chicken or chicken fried steak (pick the chicken--it's the best ever), then everything is brought to your table, served family style with unlimited biscuits, cream corn, and mashed taters. On top of all that good grub, Babe's is BYOB, so you don't have to waste your money on expensive restaurant booze. Just be sure to pack your cooler for the long haul, because you'll want some beers to keep you company during the sometimes long wait to be seated.

Im a Babe's Chicken Dinner House Lover, and it pains me greatly to give it a one star. The one star is only for the Roanoke location. We were in the area because we had gone to Bass Pro and Cabelas's and had planed to have dinner at Babes, our friends were in from Spain, and all we had talk about the chicken tenders, catfish, the smoked chicken. Our Family is a walking add for Babes. Once seated, we found out the only service fried chicken and chicken fried stake ONLY, no green beans. Let me tell you it was a huge let down, it was late so we stayed and just ate what they offered, it was good as usually but when the kids don't eat chicken legs its always a pain. The part I don't understand, why don't they service all the other items. I'm under the impression, they want to have consistency, so they are all the sames no mater what Babes you go. Again the service was good the food was good, just no chicken tenders or green bean. That is the only reason I gave them a one star. I had been there back when it fist opened and I can swear they served all the same things as the others but that was back in the late 90's. I will be back just no to the Roanoke location.

We've been eating here since college in the early 90s. Want best chicken fried steak and fried chicken in all of DFW area we always know where to go "BABE'S"! Tonight we brought our extended family there tonight whom had traveled from California, San Antonio, Oklahoma and of course Fort Worth for dinner. Food was great, as usual! Service was good, as usual, UNTIL the check came....... our large party included 4 children, ages 9, 11, 12 14. It wasn't hard to tell that they were children. Our bill came and was promptly paid in full. We later found out through our waitress that she charged all our kids "Adult prices" and didn't offer to re-adjust our bill. She said it like she didn't have a problem with it. So we paid $11.99 for each kids which should have been $3.99 (as least for the 3 younger kids). We decided not to make a big deal about it but did walk away with a sour taste in all our mouths after a great meal. I think our check was $180 for 9 adults and 4 kids. I don't remember the breakdown of our check so this most likely included tips. So we essentially OVERPAID on the actual meal and at the same time OVER TIPPED while our waitress were fully aware of it. DISAPPOINTED? YES WE ALL WERE....

Really good fried chicken. LOVE the salad...it's dressed in a simple vinegar-sugar mixture...consider it a "coleslaw". The biscuits are amazing. The corn and mashed potatoes are good, too...but I like to fill up on the other things. The chicken portions are really good (we always have leftovers) and love the unlimited sides.

Best fried chicken ever! Mashed potatoes and cream corn were amazing. We brought wine in so they provided us cups to enjoy our wine with fried chicken. The chicken-fried steak was awesome too! My boyfriend ordered that and I kept wanting to nibble on it but he loved it too much to share more than 2 bites with anyone. Very cute establishment with country decor on the walls. The service was friendly and quick, so totally up my alley.

This was the first place I learned about when I moved to Texas. Babe's is definitely a DFW institution. The food is great, and the dinning experience is definitely unique. The family style is fun. I lve cream corn and Babes really delivered.

If you mention Babes Chicken, people are like "the best". Went with a group of 10, so our wait on a weeknight was about a hour. Sat outside and drank beer waiting to be seated. They have a BYOB policy and because one person in our group knew the wait would be long, so they brought a small cooler or the beer would have been hot. Chicken was good. Sides were good. Food was good. Service was good. But nothing earth shattering. My only complaint was our huge plate of chicken was mainly legs, thigh, wings...dark meat. I asked the server if I could buy one piece of white meat and was told that was against their policy. Was it a good group experience, yes. Was it worth the money and would I return, no.

I'm a big believer in the beauty of simplicity. This location only offers 2 options: fried chicken or chicken fried steak. Both come with unlimited family-style sides: a fresh salad, warm biscuits, buttery corn, mashed potatoes that remind me of elementary school, and plenty of hot gravy. There can be a long wait if you come at peak hours, the waitresses are all very friendly and have that wholesome, southern belle look, and just a fair warning: they don't have sweet tea!

Get a cooler. Fill it with your favorite beverage and lots if ice. Drive to Babe's. The cooler can be used as a chair while your wait at least 45 mins for one of the best fried chicken and chicken fried steak this side of Texas. They also do a mean Hokey Pokey. The fried chicken is juicy, crispy, tasty and even changes tires. The chicken fried steak is tender and tasty. Not much loose batter. Love it. They only have white gravy here. Amen! RTE? Definitely!

Mothers Day was spent waiting 45 to eat at Babes. First time here. Feeling of an old western town is made you to feel like you can get on a horse and ride up Ronoke for a peaceful spell. Once inside the place was huge. The atmosphere was incredible. Everything is home made. They served chicken or chicken cried steak for MD chooses. We took the chicken. They brought a tangy salad and fresh homemade biscuits while we waiting for our lunch. We they brought he tray if chicken our eyes bulged. Hot and fresh served with sides or semi cream corn and mash potatoes. I asked for a side if jalapeños. We prayed over our meal and dug in. It was one if the best places I've eaten what seemed to be like a home cooked meal. Our server was in too I what we needed. Then came the Baby Rattlers! That was the best Mothers Day I've had in a long time. It was a special day and I am grateful I was taken to babes for it. We will return to this place again. We have left overs for two day!!!

Definitely lived up to the "best fried chicken in TX" expectation. The chicken was juicy & extra crunchy I love the creamy corn & biscuits (extra yummy w/ butter & honey) I'm definitely going back next time I go to TX again ;)

Wonderful food. Just as good as we normally get in Sanger. Only issue was the service...our gal was a little distracted and tended to be impatient with the in-laws, who were new to (and enthralled with) the whole Babe's experience.

Ah Babe's, I love the irony of the two firetrucks outside -- stretchers and all -- last night as we pulled up. Your food is destined to kill folks so it was only fitting. On to the experience. The restaurant is dark and crowded, not really what I expected, but whatever. Expect a wait, but downtown Roanoke is comfy enough to make it tolerable. We waited 20 minutes but had Dublin Dr. Pepper's across the street. Everything is obviously served family style -- fried chicken or chicken fried steak. Though they are known for their fried chicken, due to a nice allergy, I don't eat chicken. That being said, the chicken fried steak is awesome, some of the best I have ever had. (And be it that I am allergic to chicken, I eat the crap out of some chicken fried steak, so I am no stranger.) The gravy is top notch, as are the corn and mashed potatoes. My wife is a biscuit fan and swears by theirs. Even the salad -- iceberg lettuce with a sugary oil and vinegar -- was good. For $10.99 a meal and you leave needing an appointment with a personal trainer and cardiologist, it is an awesome deal. Oh, and BYOB!

Always a good place to take out-of-town folks for some yummy chicken fried steak or fried chicken (your only meats at this original Babe's). Everything is always good. The mashed potatoes, corn, gravy, salad and biscuits are served family style. We always seem to get too small of a portion of mashed taters, but you can always ask for more. Usually a long wait, so if you don't like to wait, go at an off time of day. You can order just veggies if you don't eat meat.

Why not give this place 5 stars? It certainly isn't a 5 star fancy restaurant, but delivers exactly what they promise! I will be 100% honest and admit that my chicken fried steak was slightly over done...but that is the only fault I can think of. Our cute and friendly waitress was helpful and prompt. The food is good and simple and tastes just like you'd expect a southern granny to "fix" ya! If you go as a couple, I would recommend considering ordering one chicken and one beef dinner and sharing so you can taste full menu-- though you won't be able to eat it all!

I'm traveling through Forth Worth and saw the great reviews for this place so my husband and I tried it out. We went early (about 4:50) on a Sunday night per the reviews and I was glad we did because we sailed in, no wait! The tables are big so it was pretty spacious for two. The waitress was awesome and walked us through the process. I got Big Red for the drink since we don't have it at home and liked it's slightly cinnamon taste. I got the chicken, he got the chicken fried steak. You get a salad with the meal and the salad dressing was unique and tasty, the lettuce iceberg - not my fav. It was the chicken and corn that stole the show. They were insanely hot, fresh, fast, and bursting with flavor! I come from the country and this is what fried chicken is suppose to taste like! I also loved the gravy but my husband thought it was a distant 3rd for best on the table. When we left the line was crazy and I was so glad I followed that tip to go early! This is a great place, go check it out. :) HOT TIP: Across from the restaurant their is a little convenience store that sells Dublin Dr Pepper. They are in tiny bottles, icy cold and deliciously different made with Imperial Cane Sugar. Please check out the attached pics! :)

Great chicken house. All the food is delicious. Chicken fried steak is good but I always go with the chicken.

This place has the best chicken ever. Each serving comes with a leg, thigh, wing and breast and all you can eat sides (mashed potatoes, cream corn and gravy). The sweat tea is good too. Service is outstanding!
