Golden Joy BBQ Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

With it's wide variety and reasonable prices, Golden Joy is a delightful alternative to the other dim sum houses (Kirin Court, J.S. Chen, Maxim). It can get a bit busy, but no hour long waits here. The full dim sum menu is quite extensive and varied, and it is available even when push carts are being used on the weekends. As with most places, some items are good, some are great, and some... well, let's just say that they're worth a try. If you're not in the mood for dim sum, the B.B.Q part of its name refers to the availability of roasted meats, of which, I can say, the duck is pretty darn good.

My favorite dim sum place around DFW. Although located rather deep into Richardson, it was definitely worth the fifteen minute 35 mph drive to Belt Line and N. Plano Rd. It's a small scale restaurant where it is clean. I haven't actually tried the Chinese BBQ but a small plate of roasted pork served with other dim sum items. I can't critique what's good and bad about the roast pork, but I know it's much better than the average Chinese BBQ places that I've tried before. The baked pork bun was amazing as they were served fresh out of the oven. Egg custard was my favorite, and everything else was good. We visited twice on a weekday where we had to order it on a white sheet of paper. Fortunately, they had numbers and pictures on the table for me to tell what they are. Our most recent visit was on a weejebd, and there were carts being pushed around. Food was fresh, as I watch the ladies walk in and out replacing empty carts with fresh food. Despite the traffic, the restaurant was kept clean. Will definitely go to Golden Joy BBQ whenever I think of dim sum.

The dim sum is good, some items are exceptional. Definitely holds its own against the more established dim sum eateries. I want to try their regular stuff. I hear it's better than FBQQ.

We've been here before and I don't remember it being as terrible as this previous time we came to eat. It was Father's Day and of course, we let our dad choose where he'd like to eat. He choose's Golden Joy BBQ. I arrive early, for once, and we get a table for 9, though I didn't realize that my sister was out of town and we only had 5. We ask if they want us to change tables and they say it's no big deal. Well, everyone arrives around 6 and we start to look at the menu and order. At this point, there aren't many people around. Maybe 4-5 of the tables have people. So we order and the place is starting to fill up, seriously, every table now has patrons and any tables that get cleared are immediately seated. So 6:20 rolls around and they serve us our plate of barbecue meats (duck and pork) and it's okay. The duck is pretty tasty, but the pork was kinda dry. I expect it to be at least normal, even better if it is moist/juicy. Nope, not this time. Then 6:30 rolls around and we get our soup. Sluuurp. It's gone. So we sit around waiting for the *next* dish. All the while my brother is telling us how ridiculous this is, as if we don't already know. We've ordered 6 dishes and by 7:00, we're still waiting for 2 of our dishes. By 8:00, we've about finished our meal because the last two dishes came out so late. 2 hours is horrible. The food would have been pretty good, had it been warmer. Some of the food seemed to be rather cold when it came out. This place was definitely understaffed for Father's Day. It might be alright for a regular day, but if there's some special occasion, you should probably steer clear.

"Golden Joy" is definitey the feeling I had after my delicious meal of dim sum here! This place is simple and the servers get down to business serving up those delectable little plates! I'd recommend this place especially to people who have never tried dim sum before or who are not familiar with the different types of plates available because at each table, they have pictures of all the dishes and numbers (up to 70!) next to them, so if you want something you just need to flag down a server and point to the one you want - so simple! Everything we had was delicious and fresh. We ordered fried shrimp balls (muh fave), Chinese broccoli, deep fried taro (never tried this, but that crispy skin was GRRREAT), shiu mai, shrimp crepe, BBQ pork crepe, pan fried turnip cake, deep fried pork football (ummm... AWESOME name, AWESOME taste), steamed BBQ pork bun, and bean curd skin roll (yeah, it sounds shady, but don't let it scare you - it's delicious). I thought the service was good, all the ladies were very helpful and brought out the dishes we requested quickly even if they weren't circulating on the carts. I onlly WISH we had enough room left in our stomachs to try some of the yummy desserts - well that only means one thing....another trip to Golden Joy is in store!

This place is a true gem. It's not in your typical Chinatown area but it's near the old Chinatown. They have great dimsum.

The dim sum is OK. What makes it more satisfying is the 10% discount offered Monday to Friday. Dim sum is not cheap and not something you have for an everyday lunch. Tip: we ordered a small plate of roast duck. It was tasty, but the pieces we got were all bones and skin; there was no meat. Don't know if this is the norm, but when we told the server about this, she gave no response. I would come back again, but watch out for the roast duck.

My aunt invited me to dim sum this past Saturday. I didn't know that Golden Joy had dim sum. I was excited to try it. The place was pretty full when I got there but it was not crowed like Kirin Court for dim sum on the weekends. They don't have as much variety as Kirin Court but everything that we tried was great. My only disappointment was that they didn't have any sesame balls on the carts. Chicken feet were great. They were cooked perfectly where the meat/skin (whatever) falls right off the bone and were so soft and flavorful. My son loved their deep fried shrimp balls. I am always in the mood for shrimp chow fun and was glad that it was available. Their chrysanthemum tea was nice. My little cousin drank about 3 pots worth all by himself! The six of us ate for less than $45 bucks. Tip: If you can't make it to dim sum you can always order a dim sum item during regular business hours too.

Another good dim sum find in the Dallas area. Somewhat removed from the busy Asian hub on Greenville and Main St, Golden Joy BBQ is an excellent alternative to Kirin Court or Maxim if you're in the area. A 70-item small plate selection range from the predictable to the delicious. Standouts included the seasoned chicken feet in black bean sauce, meaty steamed spare ribs, wonderful fried pork footballs, fresh-from-the-kitchen stuffed eggplant and peppers, and fabulous water chestnut cake (highly recommended by our server). Aside from dim sum, Golden Joy boasts an extensive menu of regional Chinese favorites that would take a season of visits just to sample all of it--if your gut can handle it. Space is functional enough for a large banquet or special occasion, though smaller than previously named restaurants. However, staff was attentive and swift on the cleanup, with no issues in communication. The only negative that I wish they'd address are the dirty fish tanks--one broken and neglected--sitting at the front entrance as you walk in. The sight of them can be enough to deter even the fiercest appetites. I'd still drive across town just to sample everything on their menu!

Ahhh what a joy to have found Golden Joy! (corny, I know! ) This place is easy on the pocket and without the long wait unlike Kirin Court. There is a good selection of dim sum here. NOT everything here is great like the xiao loong bao or wu tao ko but the siu mai, lotus paste bun, dou hua, mini egg tart, fried yam ball here are pretty good, The winner was definitely the Peking Duck here! OMGGG...crispy skin, juicy meat, spongy man tou, fresh leeks and sweet hoi sin sauce all make for a perfect match in heaven. We ordered the "3 way Peking duck." meaning they cook the whole duck in three ways; roasted, boiled in soup broth, stir fried with vege. Everything was delicious! Did i mention that service here was pretty good but sometimes annoying too. They could not stop shoving us with food. Maybe cause we were a party of 12? Anyway, the waitress was so patient with us when we asked her to split the check 12 ways. I was ready for her to give us a black face when we said that, but NOOO, to my delight she just smiled like an angel and came back with 12 checks:) The bill rang up to 15.97 per person including tips. I thought that was pretty reasonable with the peking duck.

Again, I do not strictly like to dine at the "main stream" establishments because that can be very superficial for your taste buds. With that in mind I have been dining at Golden Joy B.B.Q. for the past year and have never been let down. Whether you want Dim Sum or just plain everyday sit down food items, you cannot go wrong with this place (plus you get to avoid the atrocious wait times at kirin court and maxim). The wait staff will always greet and remember you with a smiling face if you are a regular. What I really like about the dim sum here is the fact that it is always fresh, not just sitting on the carts for possibly half the day waiting to be picked by a dining customer. They make choosing your items easier by placing picture diagrams on each one of your tables for easy ordering. With all that in mind, lets get to the food. For dim sum, I like to order meat dumplings, shrimp dumplings, congee, crispy roast pork, and shrimp balls. The dumplings are made fresh to order with the lack of any freezer smell while keeping the soft consistency and generous amounts of ingredients packed into each individual serving. Believe it or not but there are places that can screw up congee, this would not be one of them. The Crispy roast pig is by far one of the best I've had in the metroplex. Not only do they keep the pig skin nice and crispy (minus the abundance of fat/oil dripping off of it), but their cuts are always pretty lean and well flavored without ever being over powered. They provide each plate with a dipping sauce but definitely not required. Dinner portions: I've had the chow mein, jellyfish soup, beef and brocolli. Chow mein is a child hood favorite of mine and definitely done correctly here. They give you a portion that is about 2 times the amount at most other restaurants while keeping the sauce just right in flavor. The jellyfish soup is so addictive that you cannot just have one bowl....but be careful it is very hot and easy to burn your taste buds...which I have found to be worth it ahaha. When I want authentic Taiwanese food, I always come here. Although it isn't like cheers where "everyone knows your name", its the asian style where "everyone knows your face". I hope you will enjoy your experience as much as I have!

Their dim sum is tasty but the pricing for their dim sum dishes can seem sort of high. It's authentic chinese food. Their peking duck and charsui pork is great. Also for dinner I've ordered the yang chow fried rice before. It's a good dish but I think First Chinese BBQ's is much better. Overall the pricing is okay for the service and food you get. It's not anything fancy, but the quality stays the same and the price you pay for it is decent. Recommend to anyone who has a craving for authentic Chinese food and doesn't want to pay high prices for it.

Love this place! Close to my parents place and food is very tasty. The Salty Chicken is excellent ... must have! The Bitter Melon with Beef ... another great dish ... FYI ... it's called 'bitter' for a reason. Of course, the Roast Pork is crispy and moist ... excellent. They also serve Dim Sum everyday ... I think ... but beware on the weekends ... crowded for Dim Sum. Please note, they are expanding ... so if you go here any time soon ... there is some construction. Enjoy!

This place has really crappy service, even for a dim sum place. No tea until almost the end of my meal. Really?? And when I waved my ticket to check out, the waitress simply put her hand up at me to wait. Really?? More stars, more fun. But Golden Joy only gets one.

the only place I know in Richardson/Dallas/Plano/Garland area where you can order crispy pekingness duck w/out placing a pre-order a day before......it was ready in 20min!!! also their crispy skin pork was delish!!!!! friendly service and price fits the portion...this place is a hidden gem~!!! they also have dim sum on the weekends I think? I saw a few empty dim sum push carts on the side.... I'm definitely ordering from here again!!!

So what this place lacks in dinner, they make up with BBQ and dim sum. First, we bought a whole roasted pig from them for our engagement ceremony. Let me say, the pig was roasted perfectly and dressed up very nicely for us. We ate some as an appetizer for dinner it was very crispy and flavorful (even though it had been hauled around for 2-3 hours). It was the cheapest whole pig sold in the area and tasted probably the best. Note: order in advance and give them about a week. I didn't even know they had Dim Sum until my parents took us last weekend. The place is small but they were able to seat us even though they were packed. They had all the basics and everything was very good. I could feel that a few dishes were missing but it didn't bother me because I got everything I wanted. The prices are average so I will definitely come back again for Dim Sum and avoid the large crowds at Maxim's/Kirin Court.

Does not take Amex! The baked pineapple bun is to die for. The iced tea was pretty good. The pork was very low quality.

Okay this place is pretty delicious we ordered several things off the dim menu and the $20 Peking duck special. Peking duck-SO WONDERFUL. The duck skin was crispy and the bao was perfect. I really like how they made their own hoisin sauce from scratch. My only compliant is generally when you order Peking Duck you get another dish out of it we didn't. No soup or a stir fry but maybe that wasn't included in the $20 special. If anyone else ordered it and it came the same way with nothing extra please tell me. Dim Sum: Pan fried pork dumplings- First time I ever tried them so I can't say too much. I did like them and they were bigger than I expected but I'm not dying to order them again. Not that they were bad just really didn't stand out to me as much as I thought they would. I added some hot chilli oil to them and really liked it that way not sure if that's traditional or not. Creamy custard bun- I enjoyed them but my girlfriend said Kirin Courts had more custard in theirs. But she said they tasted just as good. Green tea pudding- Excellent very light, good green tea flavor and came out in three cute little molds. It's the perfect dessert to order for the hot weather. Bqq steamed pork bun- My girlfriend says they were okay. I didn't try those so I can't say. Next time I should order the fried pork foottball like another yelper talked about For drinks we ordered the chrysanthemum tea and oolong tea. My girlfriend thought the chrysanthemum tea was very delicious and I just loved their oolong its suburb. The oolong was very smooth and had a slight floral taste to it. I definitely recommend the oolong but if you want something naturally sweet get the chrysanthemum. Either way you can't go wrong with the tea here they brew it to perfection and aren't stingy with the tea leaves. Overall great experience like I said only one star off because the service was alright and because the peking duck didn't come with an extra dish.

This place offers one of the best dimsum in town - in my opinion. It is not as salty as Kirin Court, yet the taste is great. It is also not as crowded as in Kirin Court. The parking is ample. Let me remind that having dimsum here is not about the service, it is about the good food. The waitress may not be that courteous, but they get the job done. If you are expecting high level of service, you will be disappointed.

I came for dim sum with some friends. We came around 3 on a Saturday. The food tasted decent but it was cold (probably because we came so late). I liked everything except the soup dumplings. I think the soup soaked into the dumpling skin. We ordered chicken feet, pineapple bun, pork and shrimp dumpling, turnip cake, and cheng fun x 3.Id try it again buy i would come earlier.

Food was great and for the price isn't bad either. Only bad thing is they have a lot of dim sum option and that makes it harder to order lol. Atmosphere is causal and not to noisy. Everything seems fresh. Had the egg custard dessert and it's pretty good not overpowering sweet and had that pudding like texture.

This place doesn't get as much hype as Kirin Court (competitor) but I'm not sure why. The food is better! Theirs never a wait! And it's more affordable! Plus they offer items that I love.. Like the shark fin dim sum or the bean curd roll. I've been here on weekends and weekdays and they serve dim sum daily. Weekends will be pushed in carts. Weekdays are fresh to order. I've been coming here for over two years and will continue!

Though there aren't too many dim sum locations in the Dallas Fort Worth area, the majority that do exist seem to be located primarily in the more Northeastern part of the city. Golden Joy is a slightly more recent entrant to the game than the other locations and is open later than you'd expect from a typical dim sum restaurant. We had 2 orders of the pork shumai, pretty standard dim sum cuisine. It wasn't as hot and fresh as it could be (we did arrive a bit after peak hours), but was pretty fair in terms of flavor. That seemed to be the general trend for most of the dishes. The ones we had to order separately (rather than pick from the cart) were guaranteed to be fresh. Our hypothesis was that because Golden Joy wasn't as popular yet as other locations (such as Kirin Court), there was no wait time to sit down, but that is offset by slightly less fresh food since there aren't as many people cycling through. I didn't expect too much out of the dim sum scene in DFW, so Golden Joy provided a pretty fair experience that was more or less what I'd expected. Total price came out to under $15 a person, and it was enough to satisfy my dim sum craving.

Preface: This review is for the dimsum and NOT the entrée menu. Food (3/5): The Dallas dimsum scene is pretty dismal so I didn't expect much. With a party of 5, we were immediately seated at 1pm on a Sunday, a feat that is nearly unheard of at Kirin Court. For what it's worth, the place was pretty empty when our party arrived. The food was just okay. Standard fare for a dimsum place but nothing that stood out to me. Almost everything we ordered was room temperature. I'm not sure if it was our timing (late lunch?) or they didn't have any fresh batches of food, but the temperature made for a very average meal. On the plus side, the dimsum here is at a lower price point than Kirin or Maxim, so it might be better for the more budget conscious. Service (2/5): All I can say is that the waiters may be way too diligent for my taste. I understand that dimsum waiters should push their carts and ask if you're interested in any of their dishes, but these employees seemed nearly desperate to get rid of any food they had left over. Ladies would bring by random, unsolicited trays to our table, which completely detracted from our lunch. Otherwise, service is pretty average since they weren't super busy. Atmosphere (4/5): Very spacious dining area with nice tables and clean flooring. The place is well-lit and it looked like they are capable of accommodating groups of all sizes based upon the tables they have available. If you're looking for a place to grab dimsum without a long wait, this is your best bet. Don't expect super fresh food though since the food tends to sit longer, waiting for customers to show up and finally order it.

We decided to give this place a try after reading some of the reviews on here saying it was just as good or even better than Kirin Court. I've been going to Kirin Court since I discovered dim sum 7 years ago and never really strayed anywhere else. But Golden Joy may become our new spot. We came on Saturday afternoon and was seated immediately, after which we were approached by 3 carts. We got most of our dim sum favorites (6 items) within 5 minutes of entering the restaurant. They all tasted pretty good. The only disappointing one was the soup dumplings (xiao long bao). I'm no expert but I think they are suppose to have soup in them. These were bone dry. They also don't offer the vinegar+ginger dipping sauce. There's just a bottle of vinegar on the table. I also like the picture menu on the table, makes communicating with them and asking for certain items easier. The service is what you would expect from an asian restaurant. Also, the aunties pushing the carts are very aggressive. Many times they were placing random items on our table saying "oh you like this" or "very tasty, you try". Quite amusing. So just be very adamant when telling them no. And yes like others have said, slightly less expensive than Kirin Court, and no long lines!!

This place is right next to my house, and I'm so glad my parents discovered it. It's kind of a hybrid between First Chinese BBQ and Kirin Court (the dim sum aspect). It's very authentic Chinese food, and they have the best roast pig (燒豬) that I've had in the states. They are definitely understaffed, and you have to be assertive to get service, but nothing too different from most Chinese restaurants. When I come with my family for dinner, we usually order one of the preset meals for 4 people. It comes with 5 courses: a soup, a BBQ meat plate, beef and chinese broccoli, salt and pepper pork chops, and a tofu hot pot. All are delicious. The dim sum is not nearly as busy/crowded as Kirin Court, but I think the quality of the food is comparable. Because it's not as busy, carts don't come by as often so you have to chase them down or specially order some dim sum items. Regardless, I'd much rather come here if I'm not in the mood to wait!

Food is okay at best, ambience is barely passing, service is ok. Not impressed. A bunch of the fried stuff is not freshly fried so did not taste good. Dim sum must order dishes are usually good indicator of whether a dim sum restaurant is good. Dishes such as steamed pork chops, shu mai, shrimp dumpling, and chicken feet..these did not pass imho. Turnip cake (fried slices of chinese radish) and luo mi ji (chicken rice wrapped in leaf) are acceptible. I was kinda shocked that barely half of the restaurant was filled and it was 12pm already.

This place has the best Chinese food! They don't deliver, but my roommate and I go out of our way to pick it up because it doesn't compare to the other delivery places.

Not golden, not silver, heck not even bronze. Golden Joy BBQ would barely get a participation ribbon on my podium. It's kind of tough to try the food, when there are none coming out. We had to chase down those metal carts like an Olympic sprinter. Once we finished hurdling over other tables to get those dim sum treasures, the food was a disappointment. We also ordered some entrees from the menu. The BBQ pork tasted off. Beware my non-Chinese speaking friends, the food might not always look like the pictures.

We came here for dim sum but they didn't have dim sum cart going around. I think you have to order what you want to eat. We got sweet and sour chicken which wasn't as great. Everything else was delicious. My favorite one was the seafood fish belly soup. I haven't seen any restaurants serving it so I had to try it out. The soup dumpling had no soup inside but the filler was good. The price are very decent and their food are good. They can use an improvement on their customer service.

Came here for some New Years Day dim sum. I would say not too bad. Servers were definitely good sales people. Continuing to put foot items in your table as if you wanted it. Servers were very attentive. They usually brought items we wanted or asked for, along with continuing to keep our drinks filled. No particular item wow'd me. Ordered combination fried rice which was pretty good. I usually like my fried rice if it's not glistening with oil. Hot tea was pretty good too.

My family and I come here quite often and we're friends with the owners and employees. Experience: I always tend to run into people I know here, which is cool getting to catch up. Its typically pretty busy (which is a good sign) It's nice and spacious. The decor is nice and there is normally enough seats for everyone to fit. Food: The food is pretty good, I think the dim sum is alright. I'm generally a fan of dim sum so their food is okay, nothing extremely good. The lo miah gai (rice chicken in the tea leaf wrap) is pretty good. I mainly enjoy their on-menu Items. Service: service is okay too. sometimes it takes a while for them to serve you cause their busy, but other than that it is good. I would recommend this place, if you're looking for some good Chinese food.

Authentic dim-sum and duck. When I drive from Fort Worth to visit my Chinese relatives they choose the restaurant, and this has been a favorite pick of theirs lately. The fact that when you go in and see mostly Chinese people eating is a good sign. For $8.50 you get enough seafood pan-fried noodles to feed 3. They also allow you to bring your own wine.

My first meal of 2014! It was great to see friends on the first day of 2014 and for that, I gave an extra star for this place. This place is big and there is plenty of seating for large parties. However, the food was less than stellar and getting service was like pulling teeth. The servers pretty much ignored our table for a good 15 minutes until someone from our table had to go hunt someone down. Once we finally got our order ticket, we were able to order food. The dim sum was just okay - my favorite was the crispy shrimp ball and the sesame ball with red bean. We ordered a couple more dishes, but they weren't very good. I had to use a lot of soy sauce and chili to mask the flavor of most dishes. I wish I had a better experience being that this was my first meal of the year, but no worries. I'm not giving up on eating delicious food this year! Happy New Year everyone!

I decided to stop in for some take out last week. I ordered the roast pork, marinated chicken, and a chicken fried rice. The chicken was adequate and the pork seemed to have been sitting for quite a while, it tasted stale. The fried rice has a distinct flavor of charcoal or burnt, it was completely inedible. The entire dinner went in the trash.

Came here with my boyfriend's family on Christmas Day for dim sum. It was nearly impossible to get the dim sum cart to come to us. We ended up walking up to the cart to get food instead. Ha Gao were mushy. Turnip cakes were bland. Shiu Mai were not bad. Cha Shu were more on the sweet side and did not have the right pinkish red color like usual. Our fried rice and noodles did not come until the very end. Poor service over all.

I've ate here a couple times and the food is decent. However, my last takeout order was by far one of the worst customer service experiences I've had so I will not be returning. When I went to pay for my food, the cashier got mad at me for not having the correct amount in cash. He told me to walk to the gym or nearby vendors to break my 20. He complained and yelled because he didn't have change for me. And he threw the biggest fit when he had to ask his coworker for the change. Yup, never going back.

This place have decent and acceptable Dim Sum and the price is fairly cheap compare to places like kirin court and maxim. In addition, you have to order their Roasted pork, they make the skin so crispy and you dip on the sweet sauce just taste amazing to me. Also, they have a dish called house special flat noodles with curry sauce is my personal favorite from this restaurant.

I mean I guess if you didn't have a choice or there was a long wait at Kirin or Maxim, you could come here... The food wasn't great, there wasn't a lot of options on a Sunday, and the soup dumplings had no soup whatsoever. I only gave 2 stars because the staff spoke Vietnamese and were friendly.

Food is ok. It's not too bad but definitely not the best. I didn't have dim sum and instead tried the sweet and sour pork as well as another chicken dish I can't quite remember. Service was ok again but not the best. Waiter was very persistent on me ordering a certain dish for some reason and wouldn't let it go. I kinda wonder if they were just trying to get rid of it for some reason. I guess I will never know.

Even since I was introduced to this place, I've been back several times. Way too many times I would say. If you are craving for Dim Sum on a Saturday or Sunday morning and would like beat the crowd at Kirin Court or Maxim, I would suggest checking this place out. Quality of the food is as good as their price. They have good soup selection such as the "Soup Mang Cua". Best in the morning; or my childhood favorite dish, Chow Mein. It is HUGE like a bird's nest. Can feed up to 4 people I would say. Very tasty. Thinking about it makes me want to drool all over again. For a meat dish, I usually get their 3 combination meat selection. BBQ meat is fantastic. Fried rice, Flat noodles, Crunchy Chicken are great choices especially when eating with a large group. My friends and I usually do family style. Portion size is pretty big so order sparingly. Clean place. Friendly staff members. Must scope this place out!

Came here for dim sum and they did not fail to deliver. The food is hot and delicious, and as with any dim sum it's great that you can adjust your meal to fit your appetite and budget. I really, really appreciate the fact that they went out of their way to make sure I didn't eat anything with pork in it after I told them I don't eat pork for religious reasons.

One of my favorite top 10 places to go. Really good Chinese food, super fresh and plenty to eat. Their Dimsum served all day is the perfect place to get your fix. You can order off the Dimsum menu and get exactly what you want. They have the traditional dumplings and some inventive ones, like the pork football. Watch the chairs they are a little rickety. I feel bad for the pet fish in the entry though. They don't understand the concept of filling the tank up with water.

Reviewed recent Yelpers on this restaurant. I was very happy that I came!!! I am Chinese-American and have had dim sum in San Francisco, Houston, and New York. Sure, things can always be better, but, I just want to eat great Chinese dim sum! This place was very quite to seat us and "Bam!!!" The food was coming. They even have a pictogram of items they serve, which is helpful in case you're not acquainted with Chinese food or this type of service by cart. Think of it like the waiters in Fogo de Cao where the waiters bring you selective foods to your table and you say "yes" or "no". The waitresses are nice, though they might not say much in English. Everything was served fresh and HoT! I was impressed that the dining area (although not Ritz-Carlton) was clean and well kept. The shrimp crepes were silky and delightful, while the shu-mai was awesome. BBQ pork buns were to die for and the shrimp har GAO were yummy to my tummy. Prices were comparable to other resturants so no complaints there. Not cheap if you eat to blow up your stomach to a size of a blimp. I'm definitely coming back. NO HESITATIONS

Found this place while checking out another place in the 'hood: I was also pleasantly surprised they served Dim Sum. I was starving so I just let them drop almost everything they had on the table: steamed pork buns, dumplings (pork, shark fin, Chiu Chow), baked pork pie, And egg custards for dessert. Nap time.

My family and I have been here many times and we normally order the duck and the beef hot pot as one of the dishes. we come here many times for dinner and they also have dim sum during the day.

I like their dim sim, especially their chicken feet. The dish may sound gross to a lot of my westerner friends, but for authentic Chinese, this dish is heavenly good!! I also like their roasted pig. The meat is so tender and the skin is so crispy. My mom loves this one the best. My son loves their BBQ pork. Sweet, tender and delicious. There are simply too many good dishes to mention. Usually, the service at the Chinese restaurants is so-so. But these waitresses and waiter (only one) are super friendly. Since I have come here so often, they recognized my voice when I phoned in to order without asking my name. So nice to eat at a place when they know you!!

If you're an experienced dim sum fan, this is the place for you. Golden Joy is a no bullshit type of place for those that don't want to deal with the insane lines at Kirin Court, but still want the high quality food you could get at bigger Chinatowns like Houston's. Service is quick, in multiple trips including during typical busy periods like Sundays I've never had to wait more than a minute to be seated, and maybe another minute for the carts to reach me and get the food rolling. The food is hot, fresh, and well flavored to the point where you won't even reach for the soy sauce or think about adding some red chili sauce to it. Definitely try the fried dishes like the delicious fried pork egg rolls, and the steamed like the BBQ pork buns, but you really can't go wrong with any choices here. Decor is nothing special, but you're not there for that. It's a great place for if you're in a rush, or just want to kickback and take your time like many of the families here. Bonus points for the staff not being condescending in the least to non-Asian customers like some places that immediately offer me forks or ask if I know how to eat pho correctly. They're nice and happy to tell you what's on their cart when you don't recognize a dish. This is definitely my go-to dim sum place in north dallas. UPDATE 12/23: Went in not too long ago, and halfway through the meal I saw something that made me stop. The chef was in the kitchen smoking a cigarette WHILE COOKING. Haven't been back since, that blatant huge health code violation definitely put a dent in my love for this place.

My mom told me that her and her friends like coming here, so I figured it must be pretty good (especially since some of them are picky eaters). This place did not disappoint! Craving you some dim sum on a weekday/night? Head over to Golden Joy BBQ. They serve all your dim sum staples every day of the week, but also serve traditional banquet style Chinese food, like peking duck. Be sure to get their sauteed eggplant -- nice crispy skin, but soft inside. Prices are decent and service is fast.

This place has decent dim sum. I do believe this place is one of the best in DFW area. The price here is reasonable. Service was great they always come in check if you need anything else or if you got your orders. Good thing they do accept credit cards not cash only.

After trying most of the Chinese Dim Sum restaurants in the DFW area, this has to be one of the best. Haven't had a bad meal here yet and we've been here almost 10 times. The dinner is also very good, all of the dishes were flavorful and hot when it comes out. The waiters/waitress are always friendly and attentive. And the prices are very reasonable.

Am I allowed to say Fob on Yelp? I don't know, but I'm going to do it anyway. So basically I go to Kirin Court for dim sum and most would agree that they're a very solid place for that kind of thing. So when some older fob guys I know recommend a new dim sum place that is better than Kirin Court, I go there and check it out. And they were right. The food here is tastier overall and Golden Joy has some selections that are not available at my once normal place. The service here is also really good, although not in-your-face-fake-friendly if that's your sort of thing. If you're new to the dim sum scene they have pictures at every table. And finally the egg tarts here are number 2 on my list of best egg tarts ever. Number 1 is still Eck in Houston.

Good dim sum at lower prices than the other places in town. Was coming here regularly until we found a bug in one of the dim sum dishes. Was not offered much of an apology or any compensation. Haven't been back since then.

I love dim sum here, and I approve this message. Now, I'm an instant gratification sort of person. The fact I can walk in, sit down, and have food in front of me before my tea has been poured makes me all sorts of happy. That's why dim sum and I have a long and loving relationship. Golden Joy BBQ does it right. At this particular establishment, people fall into two camps with dim sum. Those who dig the trolley-dolly type and those who like their dishes made-to-order. Me, I'm old fashioned and prefer the cart system. My wife, on the other hand, likes it ordered off the menu and brought fresh to the table. Whatever your taste may be, both options make for a great dining experience. At every table, there is a Dim Sum menu with pictures. Did I mention they have PICTURES to help with ordering? It comes in handy when one's mouth is stuffed with a steamed BBQ pork bun and all he has to do is point to a picture and grunt. So convenient! Now, the question most experienced Dim Sumers (is this a word?) will ask themselves: "Is it as good as Kirin Court?" I'll say this. Some things are better and some are not. In the end, its still freaking good!! The highlights of the menu: Steamed Beef Ball, BBQ Pork Crepe, Steamed BBQ pork bun, Chinese Broccoli, Roasted Duck, and Sticky rice in a banana leaf. These are the items I feel that are better here than at Kirin Court. My final tip is this. If you want to people watch or you're eating in a big group then go to Kirin Court. If you're in a smaller party and want to eat right away then come here. All in all, Golden Joy BBQ doesn't disappoint in their dim sum.

Dim sum is my favorite and I came here a couple of times because sadly, I can only get dim sum in the morning. There's no cart being pushed here and personally, I would prefer that because with a menu filled with all of my favorite food plus the fact that I'm hungry, I'm just gonna order everything. Usually we spend at most $10 per person but here... Maybe $15-20 because my eyes just want everything! The dim sum here is exceptional. I prefer Maxims but I don't mind eating here if I'm wanting dim sum pass 12. For the other food, I haven't yet to try so this review is strictly for dim sum.

I'm not crazy about this place. The dim sum here is mediocre at best, and that's if you order your standard items, anything that needs to be a little more authentic, like the beef stew thing, doesn't taste like anything. Place looks clean and I didn't try the bbq. But not sure if I would be back.

So I usually enjoy going to Chinese BBQ places because of the variety in menu items and the quality of the food. Golden Joy does have an extensive menu of what seems to be hundreds of items, and I did like the decor of the restaurant.. HOWEVER, I was not impressed with the food (not even a bit). We came with a large group for a friend's birthday on a Friday evening, and this may be the reason the food was not good-- WHICH IS NOT an excusable reason at all considering the rest of the restaurant was relatively empty in the 2.5 hours that we were there. The service was mediocre. There were plenty of servers who weren't doing anything, but it seemed that we only had 1-2 servers for our large group. We constantly had to flag down our servers since they never checked up on us or gave us refills. Now onto the food: I wanted to get Orange Chicken but since I was sharing with a friend, he wanted to get the beef. I was fine with this, however the menu completely whited out the price of the Orange Beef. I've never had to pay over $8.50 for good Orange Beef/Chicken dishes at restaurants like this, and figured that the price would be consistent here as well. My food came out and I was very disappointed in the portion size of the item. There were maybe 8-10 pieces of small Orange Beef on the plate, and the food was overly sauced-- and not in a good way. I wasn't too upset at first because I wasn't sure how much I'd be paying for the dish. I accepted the food fail and moved on to share other dishes with friends. Next, I tried my friend's Flat Noodles (without gravy), and again, was disappointed that the dish had no taste or flavor, and the noodles were extremely dry. The Lo-Mein was about the same level of disappointment. Moving on to the BBQ stuff. Tried my friend's roasted duck, and another friend 's roasted pork.. The duck was extremely greasy and had more bones than it did meat, and the roasted pork was standard, but wasn't special enough to stand out. None of us talked about the food (except occasional whispered remarks of discontent), which is probably a good indicator that the rest of our party didn't enjoy their meals either. I went up to pay for my item and GRR... My Orange Beef dish came out to be around $10.59. Me saying that "I was infuriated" was probably an understatement, and I was sorely disappointed with my food fail experience. I prefer to never come back here and plan to stick to First Chinese BBQ or other similar tasting restaurants.

This is a great place to go if you want to avoid the crowds of Kirin Court or Maxim's. I absolutely LOVE how the tables have pictures of all the dimsum dishes. It's great in case you don't know the names of each dish/can't speak Chinese to order them. The only problem is you have to clear away your dishes in order to see them all. I was a little apprehensive when my friend suggested we go here instead of Maxim's. I was being silly because the dimsum is pretty good. It was a little over seasoned (gulped down a lot of tea and water during the meal) but I think they'll learn to dial down the salt content. They're a good option if you're craving dimsum at an odd time and the prices are a little cheaper than Maxim's.

I'm impressed! I chose to come here over First Chinese BBQ and I think I made a good decision. The food is authentic and the staff is friendly. I didn't get to try it, but they do have Dim Sum for lunch and dinner, so I will definitely have to come back and try and review. The place is pretty spacious with large windows and high ceilings, so it really makes me wanna come back and have lunch by the window. Can't wait to go back!

I went here a few times actually. I have an awful shrimp allergy, but it's the only thing I will order!!! The shrimp crepes are sooo good, how do they cook the shrimp so well?! I obviously went here for Dim Sum. Their chicken's feet were very very tasty, my mom, who's a picky eater, LOVED it! I was soooo full, we were a party of 4, and still had left overs. The duck was soooo good, the skin was ultra crispy and so flavorful. It's actually hard to find a nice Dim Sum place, this place was packed when we got here. If you big Amelican man, you have hard time squeezing in to small, clamped aleas! Okay, seriously, I'm a tiny 5"2 asian girl and I had a hard time cramming myself in between the tables, this place was super cramped. So be wary! The service is Chinese, so don't expect the best service in the world! It's a different culture, they don't work for or expect tips like in American culture, so they can be rude to you. I've learned this a long time ago. Just come and enjoy Dim Sum with your family!

Haven't tried the dim sum yet but we ordered couple dishes to go. Crab fried rice was decent but I like js chen better, BBQ pork and duck would have been better if they gave us sauce so it was pretty dry, mapo tofu was awful it was big chunk of tofu in thick brown sauce it was different, shrimp with mix vegetable was good. For those dishes, I think first Chinese does it better. I need to try the dim sum next time.

Roasted whole pig hanging by its legs next to the cashier, CHECK. Roasted ducks hanging next to the previously mentioned pig, CHECK. Yep, this must be authentic. I entered into this restaurant with a friend for lunch in search of something to calm our hunger. The first thing we noticed was the dim sum menu under the table glass covering. The best part, the menu under the glass included photos. I would have considered going for dim sum, but I didn't see the normal things I like to get when I'm at my regular dim sum spot. We received the regular menu from the waiter and it included multiple pages of dishes to choose from. The variety was very extensive. It also included 2-3 pages of dish photos. It's so helpful when restaurants include photos of their items when most of the menu is written in Chinese. I settled on the Combination Chow Mein, but we also split an order of BBQ and Roasted Pork. The pork came out first. I was more of a fan of the BBQ pork, but the roasted version was also tasty. I think I probably felt guilty about eating the crispy pig skin knowing how bad it was for me. When my chow mein arrived, I was impressed with the portion size provided to me. Clearly this was enough to feed 2-3 people (all for $8). The outer edges of the noodles were crispy and firm while the inner noodles had softened from the sauce. The various meats (chicken, seafood, beef) were complimented well by the sauce and noodles. I did what damage I could to my plate and then boxed the rest up to take home. It was a great price for the amount of food they served and not bad in the flavor department. Overall a good restaurant but nothing too spectacular. I would be up for going again and trying some of the other dishes.

One of the better dim sum places around town. They actually put enough tea leaves into their hot tea unlike other places around town where it's basically just lightly flavored water. One of my favorite things about this place is if you go after the normal AM-3PM window where other places have normally stopped serving dim sum; well not this place... You get to order it on the fly and they'll cook it up fresh vs. the normal carting around option.

i decided i need another go to chinese restaurant (besides first chinese bbq and royal siuchan).. so i decided to head down belt line and hit up golden joy bbq.. my buddy and i got the peking duck and the 3 bbq combination.. the combo came with roasted pork, bbq pork and soy sauce chicken.. we were plowing through the mountain of meat.. but before we could make a serious dent.. the peking duck was on the table.. they prepared the duck 3 ways.. we first started eating the duck skin with some buns.. the duck was hot and crispy.. next came the stir fried vegetables with duck confit.. the vegetables (especially the bean sprouts and celery) were fresh and crispy.. msg was surprisingly kept to a minimum on this dish.. last came a soup which consisted of the duck bones with cabbage, tofu and ginger.. it was flavorful and found myself drinking 3 bowls of soup.. overall.. the bbq was pretty good.. the roasted pork was a bit fatty.. but the peking duck more than made up for this meal.. my buddy and i each had leftovers for at least another couple meals

Ordered the Seafood combo from the Lunch menu (one of the most expensive items at $6.25). Came with several large shrimp, a couple of large scallops, some squid, etc. Wow, it tasted great, and I felt $6 has quite the bargain. Also came with soup and rice. Hot and sour soup wasn't very hot, but I added some of the hot chili sauce and it tasted great after that. There were about 15 tables full when I was there. Me and one other table were the only non-Asians. No complaints about the service. Almost gave it 5 stars.

Went there after church with a group of around 24 people. The place had just opened 2 months ago according to the waitress. It was fairly empty and were very accommodating. We sat at 4 round tables. The waitstaff were very nice and constantly came up to us making sure our drinks and rice were getting refilled. We ordered beef with soft noodles, chinese broccoli, eggplant, kung pao chicken, duck with bbq pork combo, and the peking pork. Everything was just fine, no complaints, but the impressive part was how fast everything came out! We got our food within 10 - 15 minutes. My table was pleasantly full and the paying process was easy. They took 4 credit cards and cash from our table with no problems.

The dimsum is solidly mediocre, but I would come here again just because Dallas needs more competition among dim sum places. There's not a lot of variety on the carts, but you can order specific items from the kitchen.

I would say this is the most random place ever for good chinese food and chinese bbq, but I am quite impressed everything there is amazing. I dislike Kirin Court and Maxim's for dim sum because of the quality of the food, but at Golden Joy the dim sum is affordable and delicious! The only con would be the some of the food on the menu isn't good and service can be slow and bad sometimes, but thats how all asian places are sometimes. Best Dim Sum in Dallas, TX call me crazy but i think its the best dim sum i had out of Maxim's or Kirin Court

Best roast pork in town. Dim sum is at par with other dim sum places in town (Kirin or HK Royal), but the roast pork is the main attraction. We come almost every week and we find the quality of the food to be very consistent.

This place just open and has a lot to offer. There are plenty of tables and I loved the display with the ducks and chicken, very Chinese! They even have chicken feet for $4.95 a pound, Can't have too much chicken feet!!!!! The menu is huge and prices are okay, not cheap but, not too high. If you are ordering soup, get the small, the medium was too big for one person. I got the Seafood Hot and Sour soup. I liked the fact that they served it in a large bowl with a ladle, it makes sharing easier. The first few tastes of the soup was fairly bland but the spices did start to kick in shortly. I was disappointed in the amount of seafood in it as I could only find a pieces of shrimp cut up and 1 small scallop. That sounds rather negative but overall it was a quality dish. There were just a few other customers in the place but all of there enrtrees looked great. I will definetly go back and try some of their other dishes. I'd give them 3 1/2 stars if I could. Note: the address is 1475 Beltline, NE corner of Plano Road and Beltline.
