I decided to give this place a try and i got really disappointed by their food.I was hoping it would compare to Chipotle but they are nowhere close. The food is super bland and their hot sauce is not hot at all. I was only able to finish that bowl because i was extremely hungry otherwise i could have tossed it in the garbage. My two star rating has nothing to do with the staff or the establishment itself.I don't have anything more to say about FreeBirds other than i will never return to any of them. I will stick to Chipotle when it comes to this kind of food.

Wanting to try something close and Tex-Mex I checked out Freebirds. For starters - maybe I should have ordered a burrito instead of two puny taco's. Food: I left hungry. Period. They must have 30 toppings but they put maybe a small tea-spoon in each. I had to tell the server "more please" three times. I think that got me three leaves of cilantro. Could not even see or taste the beef. Ended up going to the counter and handing them a condiment container and telling them to fill it all the way with the corn salsa. Price: Two puny almost empty flour tortillas plus chips and queso and a drink set me back close to ten dollars. See receipt in photos. For half that at Taco Cabana you get about a half pound of steak fajitas, complimentary chips and all you can eat fresh condiments. Service: Nice but no one checked on me. Personally I would have checked on any customer taking photo's of everything. Abviance. Probably better at lunch. Fairly empty until the bikers and Asian UTD students showed up. But I like those types. Weird and non-cohesive interior. I wanted to like this place but again left hungry for ten bucks. Count me out.

Some queso and bacon landed me a $10 burrito which I could've gotten a nicer tastier burrito at a Mexican restaurant with beans and rice on the side and a drink for almost the same price. There are no good values and excellent food for the price at Freebirds unfortunately.

Hate when nickel and dime you for stuff. Charge you for chips, sour cream, .......

This location is ok my favorite is 75 and lovers they usually give you a lot of food and I have enough to take. I like their bowls and salads a lot (not a burrito person) and if you add queso to it, it's amazing. I like them over chipotle and they usually have more variety.

So in a sentence, what Freebirds has is relatively consistent quality, a great variety of ingredients, (mostly) friendly employees, and burritos of a size you can get nowhere else. For burritos in particular, Freebirds is far superior to anywhere else, including Chipoltle, which can be good or bad depending on restaurant or the time, and lacks the customization that only Freebirds offers. In case you're not familiar with Freebirds, you basically constructing your burrito subway style; like subway, they're all about one thing, the burritos, with a few lesser menu items. If it's burritos, Freebirds is THE place to go; try ordering the super monster for a truly powerful burrito (Not all employees have equal skill in successfully rolling a super monster, however.).

What a great, unique place! Awesome burrito and an amazing brownie to follow. Place has a cool vibe and I love the foil sculpture display on the wall - too funny! Will definitely be back!

Great food, great price, great staff! What more can I say! :-)

I got the Vegetarian Monster. The rice is mushy and gross. It feels like I'm eating mashed rice with pico. My roommate got the Freebird and our burritos are literally the same size. Ingredients taste bland and disgusting. I'm literally nauseous trying to eat this so I can at least get some of my money's worth. My one burrito cost me 10 dollars and I'm about to puke trying to eat it. Go to Chipotle across the street. Much, much better.

I hated it. I took more than one bite, trying to give the benefit of the doubt but it failed. I also hated the antics of the staff. After ordering the cayenne tortilla the chef advised me I could have anything I wanted, "if I paid for it". So, I paid $14 for a burrito and an order of guacamole/chips. I think it's a fair price considering the portion size of the burrito. However, the chips were very hard & thick. The Freebirds chips experience made me think this must be what its like to accidently bite into a dinner plate; I mean after all they did crunch, but you just don't want it in your mouth afterwards. Then, I focused my attention on the burrito; it just fell apart; before me laid a $1 puddle of sour cream and excrements of Spanish rice (that I didn't want but the chef advised is very good, "because were out of the cilantro lime rice". ) So, in protest of bad food I stabbed my knife and fork into the burrito drippings, stood up, left it on table, and sashayed away. I'll never return.

I've hesitated to review this establishment for quite some time b/c we love Freebird's food and definitely prefer it to competitors. Unfortunately, the service is just too poor for us to return. We use the online ordering function probably a couple times a month on average. Our order is typically not ready when we get there and it's wrong nearly every time once we get the order home. The last two times, my burrito has been wrong and it was wrong again tonight. Of those 3 times, it's the guacamole that gets left off twice. Which does cost extra $$ so it's even worse. My husband made it all the way home today before realizing that the chips and queso we ordered weren't in the bag. He drove all the way back up there to get it. The queso we were given was clearly burned and super glue-like and I barely touched it. Pretty gross- it was the color of an old basketball, that's the best way I can describe it. The employee that supplied the queso did apologize for the error. I'd check my order before I got in the car if you're ordering online. I know that is hard to do with a burrito. Mistakes happen, they just happen too often at this particular location. We're going to start going to the Addison location and try our luck there. Freebird's is a quality product, it's just a shame this location has disappointed us so many times.

I dunno about this place. It has more variety than Chipotle sure, but it tastes less flavorful and less fresh, so I really don't see the point in coming here unless you absolutely want queso or Spanish rice with your meal. At least the management is on the ball and corrected a mistake on my order, and the music and foil art is neat. Still a much bigger fan of Chipotle. Unless you're specifically after something here that Chipotle doesn't have, I recommend you instead go to Chipotle, either the one down Campbell or of you're a little hungrier, the one by Colin Creek will usually give more meat than the Campbell one. A little tip from me.

I wanted to try something new. People have told me that if you like Chipotle, you'll love Freebirds. May be I expected more, but I was disappointed. The meat was too salty, there was not enough sour cream or guacamole. Then again, it might just be because it was a Friday night.

  • David D.

Stopped there because Chipotle was so busy....now I know why. Went through the line and had the burrito made, asked for chips and salsa to go. At the cashier she wanted to include a drink (I hate pepsi products so I wouldn't drink one if it were free), the preparer then started saying I can give you a larger queso, NO DUMBASS I wanted salsa. Disgusted and ready to go postal I just paid and got the hell out of there. Classic case of "hipsters" paying more attention to buffanury instead of listening to what the customer orders. BTW when the preparer opened wide and exposed her tongue I almost puked at the site of her tongue stud. Remove it and maybe customers will understand what the hell you are saying.

I am super impressed by all the choices and decisions I get to make when I come here. Your food is so personalized it's like you made it at home. Unfortunately I am a chipotle fan girl and I think the flavor and quality award goes to them. I wasn't wowed by anything at free birds other then the countless choices. I've only been one time and maybe should give it another try but damn I love chipotle so that is asking a lot.

  • Dan G.

This place is really good! I usually get the veggie nachos.. Which are some of the best I've had. This time I got that quesadillas ( not a fan) the staff is really cool and helpful I will be coming here again and again!

    (5)
  • Shae K.

Great burritos! You build your own and Freebirds offers plenty of choices. First you start with choosing what size you want, followed by the kind of tortilla, rice, cheese, beans, meat, veggies, and sauce. (The sour cream and guacamole cost extra.) I never leave hungry. The employees are quirky, but always friendly.

    (4)
  • Glory N.

I decided to try this place out because I wanted to compare it to Chipotle. I got the bowl and they charged extra for sour cream and guacamole. Service was bad because they did not provide me enough options like Chipotle does. It can be confusing especially when you are a new customer. I personally thought the food sucked! They didn't even fill up my bowl! Spent $12 for some itty bitty crap. Poor quality and poor quantity. I'm never coming back. I'm sticking to Chipotle.

    (1)
  • Greg H.

Pales in comparison to Chipotle. although the depth of the menu is greater at Freebirds, the quality of the ingredients and portions are somewhat lacking. Cool atmosphere but unfortunately the food does not quite live up to the decor and music.

  • Steve S.

Wow, so they've replaced the old menus they had hanging with more visually appealing and organized menus. Apparently they have also changed the rules to their reward program because I can't get my points anymore when I take advantage of their student program. That's annoying but oh well just going to toss out my points card I guess. The food here's good, I like it better than chipotle at least and the employees aren't as rude as the ones I usually run into at chipotle.

  • Danica S.

Impeccable service! I came in during the lunch rush and without stating this was my first visit, they advised of every option possible. I enjoyed the chewy texture of the spicy tortilla wrapped burrito. I chose the second to smallest size but after stuffing it with ingredients, it was huge! I ate this for lunch and dinner. Loved the rich and cheesy queso and wish I put that in my burrito too. The queso alone makes me choose this place over Chipotle.

  • Nichole H.

It's pretty hard to go wrong with fresh quality ingredients wrapped in a tortilla and suffice it to say Freebirds is definitely doing the job right! I like burritos... a lot. I like Chipotle and Q-doba but Freebirds is generally my go-to place. They make a damn good burrito not to mention good salads, nachos, tacos and quesadillas. I have never had a bad experience at this location food or service wise. The employees are always super friendly and make sure that you are getting your burrito the way you want it.

It turns out, I'm the LAST person in the world to try Freebirds, but now I'm wondering WHYYYYYYY?? A friend took me here a few weeks ago; I was apprehensive bc my husband claimed I would hate it -- He said it was just like Qdoba or Chipoltle. What a LIAR! I guess he was trying to keep this place all to himself. {Rude?!} Dang. I tried a little mini burrito from Heaven and SWEET JESUS it was delicious. I just wish I had more free time to zip on over here and eat! I also wish I could enjoy this type of caloric intake on the regular but...nope, no such luck. Definitely a great place for a quick, once-in-a-while eat!

  • Persia A.

I love this place. I'm hungry just thinking about it, actually. I love their large variety of choices and they awesome, friendly staff. I LOVE the atmosphere, as it's fun and rocker-ish. Hard to explain, but fun, nonetheless. I prefer this place over Chipotle, even thought I like Chiptole. This place is just *better.*

    (4)
  • Amber P.

Great food love the variety of things you can put on your nachos or tacos but sometimes the nacho chips can be a little to salty. Still a fan the meat is great and the queso mixed with real cheese for the extra charge is worth it.

In England if a place was named Freebirds it would mean that they were giving away girls to lads who were "out on the pull", I can't explain British culture to you, you have to be there to get it. In America, this just reminds me of everyone saying "play Freebird" at my shows. Ugh. This is just really a generic Burrito place like Chipotle basically. This isn't Mexican food. Its not awful but it's not Mexican food. Also it's taking over the food scene and putting a lot of good family places out of business so it gets a 1. I had to come in here because my friends love it so much. I was here when I was on tour in Dallas in 09. Ugh. The Burritos are really generic, like any of those college-burrito style places but more brand-ified and predictable. I should mention, I only rate national and global chains on a scale of 1-2. I rate family businesses on a scale of 3-5. Here is why: Would you rather support the local family, or the multi national corporations and the rich men on yachts in the Carribbean? Why are the parking lots of the awesome local places usually half empty (or completely empty)? Why are the chains always so busy? Why can they afford to open so late and get all the TV advertising and all the prime intersection locations? Why are they always in shopping malls? Why go and support Denny's, Chilli's, TGIF, Olive Garden, or the horrendous Applebees? These places have systematically and coldly taken over the national food scene by using the cheapest ingredients, pre-packaged frozen systematic meals that are identical across the nation, overly high prices, rude underpaid servers on way less than minimum wage, and a ridiculously expensive mass brand advertising campaign that gets inside the heads of all the kids and the 20somethings and keeps them under the illusion that if it's not a brand name, it's not worth visiting. They spend all the money they should be investing in food and service, in advertising and cornering the market - the local places can't compete - and someday all we will be left with is the same chains serving the same food all over the world. That is our future. It's the way we're heading and you know it. Every time you eat at a bland national chain, you buy into that, you support that. Boycott chains. Support your local eateries. It's an embarrassment that generic brand national chains are even listed on a proper foodie website like Yelp, let alone getting 4 and 5 stars from so called foodies. Wake up, America, before we're all just batteries in the matrix.

Mindblowing flavor. I first heard about this place from a friend. After a lengthy debate of how there were so many Chipotle "knockoffs," I decided to give this place a try. When you enter this place, you immediately notice the very hippy like ambiance. Most of the staff is covered in interesting tattoos and piercings and they are all really polite. I ordered the monster burrito with white meat chick; queso, guac and habenero sauce. When seated, you can use your aluminum foil to make various creations and pin them anywhere in the restaurant. There are some very creative "sculptures" to be found. I must say, I was blown away by the food here. I took my friends to try this place afterward and they haven't been disappointed. I'd say that if you are a fan of Tex Mex in general, give this place a shot.

A buddy of mine told me I had to hit up Freebirds while I was in Dallas, and I am glad I did! The employees were extremely friendly, and went out of their way to make sure I enjoyed the experience. They also seemed to have a lot of genuine loyalty to the place, and helped me find a Freebirds near my new home in Long Beach. The surprise was how much better the food actually was compared to other build your own style mexican restaurants. It was a better experience than Chipotle! I'm stoked to eat at Freebirds again.

This was my first time here, and I have to say I loved it!! I just got out of class and was starving and I thought about this place not far from campus. Valentine, behind the counter walked me through it (since was a Freebirds Virgin!!!) and I got a beef burrito. It was yummy!!!! They were so nice to me, and I got a free drink with my UTD ID!! I will definately go back...because even if the food wasn't great(which it was) the service was awesome!!!

Heads up, Yelpland, I'm about to pull a Nadeem. In the spirit of full disclosure, I'll go ahead and admit that I'm a Chipotle girl. No shame in my game, I love me some 'Potle. But I'm not opposed to cheating every once and awhile to find something else just as tasty. So when the Who Has The Best Burrito War of 2010 showed up in Yelp Talk, I figured I'd give Freebirds a try. After my one sad experience, I fully believe that Freebirds is either way overrated, or the entrenched Freebirds fans have been out back smoking out with the line staff. Here's why Freebirds will never win my heart from Chipotle: 1. Fuck me Freddy is it loud in there! So loud that I had to read the lips of the line staff as they stared at me with blank looks trying to figure out which little container I was pointing at. 2. Not one single person smiled at me. The California cows may be a happy bunch but these kids were downright surly. Except for the kid at the register who was trying valiantly to get me to join the sandwich club. He was just pushy. 3. There are a 84 choices of toppings. Which means there are 75 too many choices. Nothing is labeled, which left me no choice but to ask what every single item was. See #1 for why this was a complete failure. 4. That was the most boring and flavorless plate of food I've ever had. Maybe I screwed up by going out on my own and throwing together my own concoction. But how wrong can you go with meat, cheese and sauce? After 3 bites I gave up and went across the street to Chipotle. Bottom line, the grass isn't always greener on the other side of the street.

basically i'll have Freebirds, but it doesn't quite cut it for me...it's good but my heart belongs too Chipotle.

This place was EXTREMELY unique! I loved it. It kinda felt like a cross between Chronic Taco's and Chipotle, except FAR better. I'm not a fan of either of those places, but Freebirds leaves them in the dust. They have a wide variety of menu options, that accomodate pretty much any palette. I'd love to have one of these in SoCal close to where I am!

As far as burrito joints go, this one is the bomb! First learned about them while I was living in Austin and was stoked when they moved into the DFW area. Funky service, great food! If you've got ink, try Tattoosday (show ink, get free queso). My favorite is regular bird on white, white rice, white cheez, black beans, dark chicken, salsa and lettuce. Then tea with plenty of fresh sliced limes! HooBoy! Also, they have a great customer loyalty card to rack up points for free burritos or shirts and hats.

  • Thomas W.

Really generously sized restaurant with personality. The customer made aluminum foil artwork is the best part. Employees all seem very cheerful compared to the ones at Chipotle across the street. As far as the food goes, there's much more variety here which is nice, but on the whole it all seems somewhat less fresh. Freebird's is for somewhat more well off people who can afford the higher prices associated with the wider variety of items the restaurant offers.

  • Troy K.

The last couple of times that I have been there haven't been as nice. The food didn't seem as good as the first time and I felt like I was being nickle and dimed for every little extra and not by a little price. The worst thing was that the customer service had gone downhill. They were busy, but I felt like I was being talked down to and even insulted at one point. The girl was making me a quesaritto and she said I would have to wait for 45 seconds, so I asked if I should let people pass me in line or continue in it. She then repeated that it would be 45 seconds and started singing a nursery rhyme. WTF? So, I let 2 people pass me in line to keep the flow moving since it was busy and was then treated smart alecky from a guy who talked real low in a very loud area asking me which toppings I wanted. I repeatedly asked him to speak up and he would not. Anyway, I probably won't be back. The food is still decent, the place is clean and it's kind of hip, but I won't miss it. P.S. They also wrapped my burrito in foil by twisting the ends together, like a piece of candy, so tightly that it would not come apart unless ripped and I got little shreds of aluminum all over. Just tear it from the middle and get a plate to avoid this.

I stopped to buy dinner for my family at about 7:45 on a Tuesday evening. The place wasn't crowded at all. I have only been to Freebird once before, so I'm not very good at ordering. I was really bothered by the fact that the kitchen was just a mess. The floors were covered in food and debris - a LOT of it - and the counters were smeared with god knows what and nothing felt or looked clean. We got the first part of my order made - 3 burritos built - though it took a LONG time, and then the gal that was helping me suddenly started helping other service people and ringing up other customers who had come in after me. Weird. Then she started training another guy on how to build yet another customer's dinner, while I'm still waiting for her to come back to me. Weird. Then, finally, she remembers that I'm waiting and comes to make the last part of my order, which again takes too long for how simple it is. She's very nice, but where are all the other people that had been working the counter? I finally get checked out, some 20 minutes after arriving. I get home and the food is okay, except for the chips, which are really greasy and stale. Perfect end to a perfectly awful experience. I won't be back...and I don't agree that it's at all better than Chipotle.

I'm one of Freebirds biggest fanboys... I've been eating at various locations for at least 10 years now and probably own 7 FB shirts. Sadly, I've started to change my tune in the last few months. This location in particular has progressively gotten worse over the last 4 months or so. I love the steak on Cheyenne (freebird or monster), but my last few stops in it has declined greatly in quality. The steak has become that chewy, fat, grossness that no one wants in their mouth. I stopped into the Addison location a few weeks ago and the steak was the same as Campbell's junk... I'm starting to think Freebirds has expanded to rapidly in the North Texas area and the quality of the food has suffered for it. As a side note, the soda fountain is always broken at the Campbell location and the burrito station looked dirty last night. My girlfriend and I went into this location one night in August and realized that everyone behind the counter was baked out of their minds. There was a big line of folks waiting and the staff kept making mistakes with peoples orders. I'm not sure what really happened to my beloved Freebirds, but I think it's time to file for burrito divorce and find a place that still gives a crap about quality.

  • Ron S.

I routinely (weekly) frequent this particular Freebirds and can say that I am usually happy with both the service and quality of food. I recommend the Taco deal (3 tacos and a drink for $5) which is the best deal in town. I get the soft corn tortillas. FYI, corn tortillas do not hold up as well as flour so expect them to occasionally break on you. I think the pork is the best choice of the three meat offerings. The service is usually good, I don't mind the gauged ears or tattoos, but I have noticed a marked difference in the servers...so much so that I have considered either requesting a specific server or adjusting my place in line to avoid certain servers. Typically, the newest servers tend to move slower and give smaller helpings of each topping while veterans are quick and a little more generous. The food quality is good but they occasionally fail on the cilantro and the limes. Overall, I would recommend to anyone.

Pet peeve: you use a BOGO coupon with three people and they deduct the cheapest entree, not the second most expensive. Do you really have to have them ring two items separately? What a nuisance. And my salad was tiny. When I selected jalapenos as a topping, guy behind counter was too lazy/in a rush to drain the liquid. They're turning into Subway, where it's a battle to get any food. My son liked his two tacos, so I'm moving them up to two stars. Woulda made it three but daughter's monster burrito was almost all rice. We all know it's the cheapest ingredient in the world, so no surprise there, I guess. On way out, wage slave asked how things were. Told him just what Yelp review would be. He acted interested to hear but did nothing, of course. Why not tell the truth, and in a friendly voice say something like: "Thanks for giving us money today, sir. I'm now going to waste your time with a sincere-sounding inquiry as to your experience here, with no actual interest in the answer."

  • Chris B.

Superior to Chipotle...for those of us that like options...I can't imagine complaining about too many items to select from at a stuff your own burrito place- that seems stupid. I like the selection of tortilla skins too. Clearly, you MUST fail a drug test to work at Freebirds- but I'm cool with that. It doesn't make my burrito taste any worse. Loud?...I don't find it to be overly loud...I guess it kind of depends on when you go- avoid teen-girls volleyball day, I guess... Their Carnita's are good- not taco stand good, but they're good.

I don't understand why everyone in Texas is so obsessed with this place.??? Anytime I've eaten here, the food is metiocre at best. And the last time I ordered the guac, it was brown & gross. Sorry Freebirds, I love that you're Texas based, but I am not a fan.

  • Stacy L.

Out of all the Freebirds outposts in the Dallas area (2 of which are closer to my house), this one is my favorite. It has the same hip vibe I remember from my Isla Vista days, meaning it isn't overly suburbanified or family-focused (ahem, planoallen). The food is fresh, I love the sauces, and the restaurant is actually big enough to accommodate the throngs of folks that come through. After a nice 10-mile run, a Freebirds quesadilla really hits the spot. Keep up the good work, Richardson!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Freebirds. The first time I had a freebird was my freshman year in college when I went to visit friends in College Station. After that first taste my mouth was craving for more Freebirds but the 3 1/2 hour drive was a little too much for me. Then they opened a Freebirds in San Antonio and I was as giddy as a little kid on Christmas morning! My coworker cursed me for introducing her to this place because she loved it so much! Then I moved to Dallas as was ecstatic to find that there was one less than a mile from my office!!! Everything about this place is awesome: the atmosphere, food, their Bad *ss BBQ Sauce, ordering, etc. Have I mentioned that I LOVE this place?!?!?! Be sure to tell the people that this is your first time and they will step you through the process! Be sure to get chips and queso to go with your burrito! If you haven't had a Freebird GET TO ONE FAST!!! This place will make you not want to go to Chipotle ever again. If you have a BIG appetite you can always challenge yourself to eat the SUPER MONSTER Burrito! Enjoy and may your mouth water!

Freebirds, with a little more consistency, you can achieve 4 star, potentially even 5 star status. For all that Freebirds has going for it in being the hip half-step-cousin of Chipotle, it loses it with the quality of the food being sometimes great, sometimes not good at all. Here's how it breaks down: Food - Like I said, Freebirds definitely has an identity crisis when it comes to being either good or bad in the food department. A lot of depends on what you choose to include in your burrito or bowl, but sometimes even the quality of ingredients is poor. I went one time and got black beans and they were awful, also tasted like barely cooked raw beans. I really like the fact that you can choose light or dark meat chicken (DARK MEAT YEYEAH!!) But their rice isn't that great and I don't ever feel like the burrito is that full compared to Chipotle. Service/Atmosphere - If Hooters can be sued for discriminating hiring practices, you could make the same case for Freebirds. It's bascially like Hot Topic opened a restaurant. Not a complaint though, I've found everybody who's ever helped me there to be really friendly and much more affable than the ol burrito slingers at Chipotle. Plus, they have the cool little foil sculptures people make from burrito wrappers. Also, along one wall they have a row of stools set up with newpaper posted on the wall so you can eat and read without having to turn the page, genius!! Price - The burritos come in 4 sizes, there's a baby one, a normal one, a pretty hungry one, and a family size that looks like it would fill up Kobiyashi. The burrito itself isn't too bad if you get a normal one, between $5-$7, but one big sticking point for me is extras. I get that avocados are expensive, fine, but sour cream?!?!?! C'mon guys, Chipotle will give you a tub of it for zero, gotta get with the program. I can't guarantee you'll have a good meal at Freebirds if you go, but everything else there is pretty cool, so it's worth a visit, especially if you've gotten a little tired of the Chipotle routine.

I've been a big fan of Chipotle's but Freebirds is just so much better. Their variety of everything is just so much better like a selection of wheat, flour, spinach or my favorite, cayenne tortilla's. The normal size is just about right for me. Their meats etc is not greasy like Chipotle's and you don't have to worry about consuming +1100 calories like at Chipotle's unless you go for the Monster burrito or even larger. There are so many different things you can add to your burrito and everything looks so good and fresh. I like their Fanatics program where you can get some free stuff like t-shirts if you buy x number of their burrito's. The only downside is that they have so few locations, it's a pretty long drive for me. If you like Chipotle, give Freebirds a try, you won't regret it.

i probably eat here about twice a month...it's tasty and conveniently located...although parking can sometimes be a challenge... i love the variety that freebirds offers...i usually get the hybrid on cayenne tortilla with spanish rice, pinto beans, grilled veges, chicken, monterrey jack cheese, grilled corn, and the yummy poblano salsa (it's slightly spicy and slightly sweet)... the employees are always very friendly...i came in last night 10 minutes before they closed (i felt really bad)...the guy who helped me was extremely nice...he said he understood and there's not many places open that late...as i was paying for my order, a group of 5 people walked in...i felt a little relieved i wasn't the only inconsiderate person coming in right before closing :)

I've only lived in Plano for 2.5 weeks, but multiple people told me I needed to eat at Freebirds. I usually bring my lunch to work, but yesterday I decided I'd finally take the bait and try this burrito palace out. The closest Freebirds to my place of indenture happened to be this one. I easily found the shop, and walked into a store full of decor and chatty people. The area behind the counter was a strewn with bits of food from what was obviously a lunch rush. It was also strewn with a myriad of boys, covered in tats, piercings, and fancy hair. I sort of wondered if I had stumbled into a different Freebirds, but then I remembered that this isn't actually Chipotle's or Qdoba; the employees are obviously not required to fit into the clean cut "I work in food service" mold. Which is excellent! But still odd to see in a chain restaurant. After ordering a "hybrid veggie," the guy behind the counter asked me if I wanted a spinach tortilla. I said, 'Ummm. Suuuuuuure." And had to confess to Ian (he was so nice and helpful) that I had never been to a Freebirds before, but everyone told me I needed to try it out. He said, "No problem! I'll walk you through it and hopefully do it right." I reminded him that if he did it wrong, I'd really not know the difference. He gave me a choice of cheeses (monterey), put some rice on, asked if I wanted pinto, black, or refried beans (black), tossed a dose of grilled veggies on (tomatoes, green peppers and onions, maybe?), and started listing sauces for me, hottest first. He managed to offer me habanero and death before I picked habanero. The death option got a chuckle out of me though. Next was a selection of toppings - onions, cilantro, stuff and more stuff, and poblano sauce. Ian suggested the poblano (something about pineapple and cilantro? I don't know, but it was DELICIOUS.) He did offer me additionals like sour cream and guac but made sure to let me know there was an upcharge. By this point, I had to be back to work in 10 minutes, but it's at least a 10 minute drive. Oops. I sat down, scarfed down half of my burrito, thinking about how it was both super tasty and really freaking spicy. I got to eat the other half for dinner, and while the spicy had died down, the burrito was just as tasty and delicious. When I got home, I wanted to know more about what they offered, so I checked out the website. The "order online" bit gave me a full rundown of their various toppings. I'm fully prepared to make another super yum burrito next time but without the super nice Ian. I wouldn't dare compare this place to Chipotle's, by the way. I feel like Chipotle's is offering a specific burrito, done a specific way (there are very few variations) while Freebirds is offering a choice of ways to create your own monstrosity. I like 'em both!!

Been going there for almost 2 years now, or more. Prefer them to Chipotle. The staff are nice and friendly. Environment is clean and pretty cool. It gets very crowded around 12, but usually service is pretty fast.

All I can say is wow. I love this place already and this is my first time eating here. I got a chicken salad and was offered an array of toppings and sides. They definitely do not hold back, compared to Chipotle. The salad was so fresh, and delicious. They have definitely gotten a new customer. I ordered online and it was simple and easy and when I went in to pickup the cashier was friendly and personable which is always a plus. It was definitely crowded even at 1:00pm when I went, but who cares, that's what online ordering is for.

I LOVE freebirds! They're really riding Chipotles coat tails into good favor but in my opinion it takes what Chipotles doing and kicks it up a bit. Don't get me wrong, I love me some chipotle but Freebirds is equally amazing...dare I say it might even be a bit better. I recently visited this place with my family. Upon arrival my traditional Mexican family was skeptical at best about eating here. However once everyone got there food they were all impressed, which is no easy task may I add! Like I said freebirds is much like chipotle. But they have a do have a few note worthy things that set them apart. For example they have different sizes of burrito, I got the normal size ( which is pretty damn big ) but they have a half size and a HUGE size, i've never seen this bad boy but i'm guessing it out of control! Also they season there rice and have a ton of salsas and a salsa bar. I got a freebirds size veggie burrito with guacamole and a drink for like 8$, soo effin good! my mom got a salad which was really good too! Lastly the service was great. My parents and grandma were pretty clueless about how to order there burrito but the employees were super helpful! go - eat - listen to the 90s music they're constantly playing. you'll love it.

Great burrito place. Texas original and very much on the free spirit side of things. Much better than Chipotle.

Stopped in here for lunch on a twitter special offer free burrito day and I was actually really impressed. The line wasn't out of control like it always is at the Addison location and I'm not sure what they did to my burrito but I swear it was EXTRA delicious and I'm pretty sure its not just because it was free. Next time I want freebirds chances are pretty good that I'm going to drive a little further to this location.

I eat here sometimes when I get off from school. Close to college campus. Good quality food - taste good. Downside is the price for a burrito. Overall, it can fill you up only if you get the biggest size, everything below that will fill you up but not make you full which I guess is fine. Good burritos tho! I def recommend to a noob

Freebirds is the gold standard of how a fast food burrito should be done. I love the seasoned flatbread that they wrap it in and the and the nachos! Only competition freebirds has for me is other freebirds. Fast service from some quite alternative looking folks!

40 degree motorcycle ride to go and hoping that the experience would not be disappointing. It wasn't and we had a good time thanks to the employees. First time visit based on reviews here. I had burrito bowl and she had three taco plate. Three taco plate is best deal and it includes three tacos, chips and drink. Burrito bowl is just unwrapped burrito. Could add a little more flavor to the pork but overall pretty good. Service is great and manager gave us some more chips which added to our stay being more pleasant (who gives anything to customers) and atmosphere is worth going to. Going to be a good place when warmer.

This place used to be my hands down choice for burritos. They've raised prices multiple times recently and are no longer clearly a better value than chipotle, which is right across the street.

i just cannot get into this place. i worked there a few summers ago, and even then it was just alright. i do like how there are a lot more options than chipotle, but it all just doesn't come together for me. i tried a quesadilla today, and it was just really sloppy. i can't even put my finger on something specific about it i dislike, i just would much rather have chipotle. it tastes a lot fresher, and maybe there is a reason it seems to be more popular despite the limited side choices.

So. . . I'm an Aggie, and I have perfected my Freebird -- it has taken years to do. This location is as good a Freebird's gets (unless you're on Northgate). Quick, delicious, friendly, and totally yummy. Unlike some of the other locations in the Metroplex, I've always been pleased with this one. My parents have yet to understand the art of the 'bird, but they like going to this one better than any of the others too -- for some reason, the experience is always good.

It was "ok"... there was a bunch of hype and maybe I'm a teensy bit snobby because of it but I didn't care for the foil decor... I get it. I just don't care for it. Ambiance is a big deal to me and I think it's a turn off even though it's totally appropriate for this place. The food is mediocre... not bad. Just nothing to get excited about. I just don't get the hype on this place... but tons of people love it so give it a shot... maybe if your expectations are lower than mine were, you'll love it! ?? :-) I'd say if you like dive bars and you don't mind bland food, go here. On the positive ~ service is excellent! Very friendly staff :-) I would go here on occasion on my way home when I'm really tired and kinda don't care too much and get something to go.

This is the best of the burrito-style restaurants. If you haven't been before let me make a recommendation: Freebird(burrito) with rice, cheese, pintos, steak, mild tomatillo salsa, dash of habanero sauce, and sour cream. Start there (my personal favorite after 20 years of experimentation) and modify according to taste. Enjoy!

I've been eating at various Freebirds locations for 19 years. This is one of the earlier ones opened in the DFW area and I've always had great service. The funky staff and excellent food bring me back for more again and again. My favorite burrito is a Freebird on wheat tortilla, mixed cheese, pinto beans, white meat chicken, death sauce, cilantro, and tomatoes. Give it a try sometime. I also absolutely love their quesadillas - leaving off the rice and beans and adding guacamole.

I'm a fan of Freebirds. The selection of chain burrito places in Dallas is relatively high, but Freebirds does some things good, and some things just okay. Good: I love their selection. While Chipotle or Qdoba has a limited menu, Freebirds allows for some variance (I love refried beans in my burritos, thanks New Mexico for that.) They have a decent selection of sauces and toppings are quite abundant. They also have different types of tortillas/wraps and different sizes. Just Okay: The flavor isn't as strong as other burrito places. Qdoba's queso really makes their burritos different. Chipotle's rice and guacamole are paramount to making Chipotle different. Freebirds on the other hand doesn't have that 'one thing' that separates them out of the pack. Their sauces, while varied, don't just make that significant of a difference. One aspect that surprised my ex-girlfriend (who was born and raised in Zimbabwe/South Africa) was the people who work at Freebirds. This particular location is abundant with tattoos, and piercings, which may turn some people off (I didn't mind.) Also, the laissez-faire attitude is sometimes refreshing, sometimes not so much. One example that irritated me a bit was when I ordered a burrito online, as I had to do a quick drop by to grab it in-between meetings. I arrive 5 minutes after it was supposed to be ready, and they can't seem to find my order. One of the guys (the one who supposedly was supposed to make my order) states that he hasn't done it yet and "tell Jake that Jake is early" right in-front of me. I'm never rude to anyone, especially people in the service industry as I've been in the same position, but that was a bit of a sharp comment for no reason. Even the cashier, who also heard the comment stated that he was sorry and 'just ignore him.' So other than the minor issue that one time, I've always enjoyed Freebirds, and I recommend it for a lunch time meal or a switch-up from the usual. Also, get the fanatic card as they have occasional bonuses for fanatic members, such as free bottles of sauce or free burritos.

Good food slightly better than chipotle but what really makes me love this place is the employees are tattoo'd and pierced and in general fun looking characters. I sat on the patio in shade listening to The Doors, I will be here a lot!

Freebirds OWNS Chipotle and pulls it around in a little red wagon The sheer level of customization possble is staggering, but after my first visit and the 9 burritos it took me to get a free burrito, I had developed my ideal: any tortilla, refried beans, rice, dark meat chicken and steak double meat, peppers and onions, jalapenos, corn salsa or pico de gallo or red onion, roasted garlic, lime juice and sometimes a little habanero sauce Everybody who works there is cool, we usually chat about how much I like Freebirds, which is a lot I do think the quality of the ingredients may have dropped a bit over a couple of years but the confluence of all the different flavors is still magic. Also they started doing tacos a a while back but they never really come together flavorwise like the burritos IMO

Freebirds is to me, a change of pace from Chipotle. I come here when I'm craving a burrito. I like the atmosphere..the staff is always interesting yet friendly. UTD students get a choice of either free chips or drink (which for me is a plus). They have really good burritos and an array of sauces to eat it with. If you come up with a creative design from your burrito foil your burrito is on the house! I'm a really huge fan of Freebirds when it comes to burritos!

This place is pretty good. A better selection than Chipotle and Qdoba.. They have four different tortillas to choose from and an assortment of meats, vegetables, and sauces.. It's a choose your own filling kind of place with tacos, nachos, burritos, and burrito bowls. It's a cross between Chipotle and Qdoba with a few more filling choices. Reasonably priced and quite large in size. It's worth trying and seeing how they stack up against the competition. I personally choose Freebirds.

Chipolte for hippies. Super slow line. Nothing is labeled and it takes forever to order. Nothing special tastewise. Chipolte is across the street. You get better tasting food in 1/4th the time. Go there instead.

This place is pretty cool. It has a nice fun decor that screams Rock n' Roll! The place is a lot like Chipotle but with more choices in tortillas. They have 4 different sizes of burritos that you can max out with ingredients or a big bowl. I would prefer Chipotle but this is a nice change in pace when wanting the same but different meal.

Tacos are yummy! The burritos are too big, but very good. The tacos are out of this world. The shell is crispy, and stays that way, even if your food is to go! Taco Bell doesn't stay crispy for 30 seconds. I like that I control what goes into my taco because I am a picky eater. Love the black beans, chicken, corn salsa, w/ a little guac. Yummy! Everyone who works there seems really friendly, but a few seem to get flustered when it gets really busy...like "I'm too stoned to deal with this" flustered. Not that they are stoned...lol but sometimes it seems like it.

The lines are long, the parking is horrid, and yet I keep coming back here because of the great atmosphere, tasty food, and fun service. I cannot recommend freebirds enough, but do try to get there before 11:30a if you only have an hour lunch break, otherwise you might find yourself running a bit late back to the office. Optionally, you can order ahead and skip the line. Also, I love their online ordering, although I do wish that the online ordering included all the options that are available in the restaurant (it doesn't have things like for example the corn salsa).

This particular Freebirds has the cilantro lime rice which I love. It is usually less crowded then say Addison. The only complaint I had is the one Saturday night that I came and everyone behind the counter seemed slightly zoned out to another planet....I think that particular night, the manager forgot to add meat to someone's burrito, no napkins were available and half the soda dispensers were empty. They also forgot to ring us up at the 2 for 10 special that was going on. I chalk that night up to space aliens invading and choose to forget it.

Way better than Chipotle, in terms of ingredients and overall grooviness of the burrito joint. I remember going to the original location in Austin a long time ago, and the quality has remained consistent. Go hungry & get your burrito fix!

the place is alright. a friend recommended it to me saying it was way better then chipotle, not really worth driving a little farther to go here when i can go to chipotle which is closer. the place looks really nice, the people are cool. the food isnt AMAZING but its good, it just seems like another chipotle but a little hipper.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
