I haven't been here in awhile since I moved offices. They have a steam table at lunch that gives you a bunch of options and they will give you a sample if you're unsure. I ordered dinner to go tonight - vegetable samosas, chicken tiki masala, curried cauliflower & potatoes & garlic naan. Every single thing was sooooo good! The staff/owners seem very nice. I used to love eating here at lunch and it's nice to know that they've stayed consistent!

Stuck in the nearby tangle of highway construction that seems to be adding ribbons of road in the sky, I was exhausted and eagerly found the nearest exit. I stopped at the strip plaza and Cafe India seemed a good choice. I ordered a takeout of baigan bharta and gulabjamin. Portions were small, no rice included with the meal, and no plastic utensils in the bag. It just wasn't worth the price especially when the food was merely average.

Walked in and sat down at a table and tried a bunch of dishes. We were pretty satisfied with everything! We ordered goat curry with bones, lamb curry, okra with onions and tomatoes, lentils, regular and garlic naan, chicken biryani, and butter chicken. Each meat dish comes with basmati rice with some green peas and little carrot pieces on top. Everything we tried was pretty good, but our favorites were the butter chicken, chicken biryani, and naan. The mango lassi is alright. We spent about $88 before tip for everything. And all of those pictures on yelp make you think the dishes are huge, but they're actually pretty small, with about two cups of food per plate costing about $10 minimum. Overall, the food is pretty good and the people working here are nice.

Cafe India offers a quick Indian buffet for lunch that is 50% dedicated to vegetarian dishes. I've had my fair share of Indian in the last year in Houston and elsewhere, and Cafe India just doesn't stack up. I usually grab the black lentils and chana masala for lunch with some regular naan and the spicy chutney near the tea and water dispensers. The black lentils are the best vegetarian item they offer: they're buttery, filling, and go great on rice. The other vegetable dishes don't hit hard: all mixed vegetable dishes I've had there haven't tasted too flavorful (a real critique given how easy it is to pour coriander or curry powder on something to add flavor). I'll say that Martha Stewart's meatless cookbook has a better chana masala recipe. Maybe Martha Stewart has strong chana masala game and I'm the fool. The people running the joint are great. They bring the naan out to you so it's fresher, and they certainly are friendly. This review feels like telling a middle school-aged child: "Hey buddy, your mom is a great person and makes great Indian food, it's just not "great" Indian food, you know?" Even so, this is the closest Indian spot for lunch, which by default means I will continue to come weekly-ish.

Simple non pricy Indian food. The place is kinda a hole in the wall but the food is pretty simple essential. The place is a bit small so fitting a big group might be difficult and since they are pretty essential Indian food so don't expect very much variety. Over all the food is yummy the services is friendly

I had the lamb rogan josh and ordered naans and a paratha. Taste was bland, meat lacked any flavor and somehow dry. Honestly, not impressed. Mind you, this was dinner time.

Really good food and good atmosphere. Place is clean and tidy and the food tastes fresh. The staff also provides good service. Pretty convenient location and the prices are fairly reasonable for what you get. All in all, recommended.

My wife went to an early dinner at this local Indian restaurant. We both enjoyed the service and food quality received. We started with the vegetable samosas, and they were perfectly seasoned and freshy fried. We then ordered several entrees including the palak paneer. This is my favorite, and it did not disappoint. We also ordered a chickpea masala, and my wife ordered another vegetarian dish. While it took a while for orders to come out, they were warm and properly seasoned as ordered. The naan was hot and prepared special with our meal. We were happy with the care and attention given by the staff and will certainly be returning soon. I visited several Indian restaurants during the past several weeks, and this is definitely one the top three.

All of the food was good and tasty. The quantity for the price is a little less than desired. One could easily go to any other Indian restaurant that offers a buffet instead of a cafeteria style line and the price would be similar . If they offered the same food but as a buffet they could even increase the price. They would make a lot more money because there's a lot ore people that would come if they could have seconds. Even though the food is good, I won't be back because the value is not justified.

This was the worst Indian food I've ever had. A place like this would not survive on westheimer with competition. The chicken curry was fatty and there was floating grease, the tikka masala was strange tasting, I don't know how else to it it. I feel like it was a waste of $10 today.

The staff here is very friendly and the location is clean. We stopped by for lunch, which was served "cafeteria style". I had the chicken tiki masala, saag paneer and chick peas. It was all good but nothing truly rang my bell. The saag paneer was not as flavorful as I am used to and the paneer seemed too soft. The naan however was cooked to order, hot and delicious. I liked Cafe India and I truly wish them continued success!

My wife and I have been to many Indo-Pak restaurants in the Greater Houston area, and this one was a pleasant surprise: The service was friendly, and the restaurant (bathroom included) was very clean. I only mention these things ahead of the food because for this type of restaurant, they don't seem to be a given. We had the Vegetable Samosas (yum!), Chicken Tikka Masala and the Malai Kofta. While the CTM was good, I might have liked it a little spicier-- I take the blame for not asking for it that way-- the Malai Kofta was very tasty. With onion kulcha, a couple of desserts, and a 20% tip, we got out for just over 40 bucks. Oh, and it's BYOB, which is a bonus. We will definitely be back again, and soon.

I've been here several times but this is my first review. I came here for lunch today many months after my previous visit. I'm glad to say the Indian food quality is still excellent! I had the lunch plate (cafeteria style but saying that doesn't do it justice,) and chose Tandoori chicken and the chicken curry plus a side of yellow Tarka dal and garlic naan. The total came to $12.43 but keep in mind that includes a canned soda or bottled water. The quality is also much better than nearly all Indian buffets. The dal was really good with a fresh flavor of turmeric. That may put some people off but it worked really well with the nutty flavor of the dal. The chicken curry was fantastic - tender and nicely spiced without blowing you away for lunch. Tandoori chicken was likewise very tender though perhaps a bit under-salted. Next time I might consider asking for less rice and another vegetable side. If you come for dinner, try the Fish Pakora as it is marvelous. It probably won't do well for takeout so take your time to dine-in. This place has been open for over 2 years so it's avoided the Indian restaurant trap of being great for 6 months, then the customer traffic tails off and the quality suffers and the business goes into a death spiral. I'm glad to say this place has gotten busier since opening and has staying power. It's the best Indian place in the NW Houston area.

First time here for lunch and it was delicious! Had the saag paneer and the chicken tikka masala as my main dishes and added naan, a samosa and a drink for $10! Such a good deal. I was full about halfway through but I carried on and ended up with a full belly and a smile on my face. Great place! I'll be back.

Couldn't of been happier. #Food came out hot and delicious. Can't give it 5 because Im limited in my indian food experiences but this was by far one of my best. Grabbed some lamb vindaloo and aloo gobi. Some garlic naan and and a chi. Very well crafted #food. Owners were real nice. Will be returning.

Small cozy restaurant with very good food and service. Staff is organized and respectful. Garlic bread is just delicious. Never been at any other Indian restaurant before but this one seems definitely to be a good one. Strongly recommend. Ask for the prices first. Not expensive but each item is sold separately from the combo.

  • Bharath Teja U.

This is the worst restaurant I ever went to in Houston. Not just an overall review but because of the food which is the focal point.. Firstly, this is NOT A BUFFET. They need to invent a new name for this shitty service where you get to eat dishes of THEIR choice, and pay for each item - like each curry (for $3) and you will have to pay again if you want a refill - which is total nonsense. The place was dull with no customers on a Monday afternoon - apt for its bad service. All the dishes taste very bad and I'm pretty sure that the chicken is couple of days old. The Garlic Naan doesn't have any hint of Garlic at all. DO NOT VISIT THIS RESTAURANT EVER! SAVE YOUR TIME AND MONEY.

  • Frankie M.

The food is pretty straightforward. Not too expensive if you're actually paying attention to what is all involved in a dish. The service was adequate, though only the gentleman seemed to interact with the patrons. Being in the NW, there's not many options when it comes to Indian food. So in a pinch I would go there. But it's not "wow food."

  • Jack W.

This place is amazing. The owners are super friendly, the food is cooked well and is not too expensive, and there is a nice ambiance. A great place for lunch - if your coworkers are too scared to try new things, tell them you'll pay for lunch if they don't like it. It's worked like a charm for me numerous times. Everything is great, but the chicken tikka marsala is my favorite. And the naan is amazing, too! Can't go wrong here.

  • max g.

Good eats! They have some cafeteria setup, but we opted to order from the menu as we have our favorites and like it cooked to our tastes. I had the Lamb Curry (Spicy) and my partner had the Chicken Tikka Masala (Spicy) Both dishes were very spicy and VERY delicious! Two side orders of Garlic Naan and we were in heaven. It is a little strip mall place, but dont let that worry you. The food was great! The server was a little off, but not enough to ruin anything, just warrant a passing mention.

This place is awesome. Best Indian cuisine this side of Houston. The owners and staff are all very kind. The food is consistently high quality and delicious. If you are stopping by for lunch and unfamiliar with the cuisine they will allow you to taste selections before you choose. The naan is always fresh and hot. The selection is numerous and the portions are fair. If you enjoy Indian cuisine I highly recommend a visit.

  • Rachelle F.

They charge for everything, including the naan. Their $6.99 platter somehow turned into a bill of $12. Also, there was a little bug in my table. The food was really not that good. I liked the Saag Paneer, but the Chicken Curry was seriously lacking curry and basically tasted like stewed tomatoes. It's an awkward setup and they somehow expect you to know what to do when you walk through the door. I made my way to the back where it looked like there was a small buffet, but they were serving the food. I'm not a fan. And the naan did not taste homemade.

  • Chria G.

I haven't been for dinner but the lunch buffet is great full of entree quality choices. They bring a basket of Naan out fresh which is lightly buttered and very tasty. The owners and staff also seem nice and seem to take pride in the restaurant.

Delicious food and great service. We had the chicken tikka masala, a creamed spinach and cheese dish, a lamb dish with a brown gravy and a breaded fish appetizer. Forgive me for not remembering the names but it was all Greek to us. Minus one star for the weak interior and the fact that they were showing All in the Family reruns on tv during the dinner hours. This is a much better bet for lunch.

This is a small restaurant close to where I live and am pretty lucky that its really good food! Otherwise Little India is just way too far to satisfy my Indian food cravings. Veggie Samosa - I always order this, it's a great appetizer (2 samosas/order) Chicken Vindaloo - Fairly spicy dish with lots of bold flavors but not overly spiced that the spices drown out everything. Chicken Tikka Masala - Really rich and creamy, very delicious. Garlic Naan - Always a great choice, just make sure you don't let it get cold! Overall: An awesome place that is fairly priced!

Ok sometime between my January update and October of this year, Cafe India seriously went downhill. I would drive by with some major puppy eyes and think about how depressing it was that our favorite indian place was using cheap ingredients and gross. I was too depressed to do a Yelp review (bad Yelper!) BUT, sometime in October, new signs started popping up everywhere that it was under new management. Thanks to some positive reviews and curiosity, we ordered some take out one night and LOVED IT. We ordered saag paneer, chicken tikka masala, 2 samosas, and garlic naan--$24. We stuck with the classics because (1) that's what they serve everywhere; and (2) in case it was bad, we wouldn't be too disappointed. Let's start with the samosas--EMGAH. For $3 for 2 really large ones, I'm tempted to order 2 orders and call it a meal. So good. Could use a little more seasoning because there is a fair amount of potato in it, but this is easily remedied by dunking it in more sauce. The saag paneer and chicken tikka masala were made with good quality ingredients, although, I will say (as a lactose intolerant member of society) it is a little heavy on the cream. The paneer was tender and felt substantial. The chicken in the tikka masala was dark meat, ie. TENDER and JUICY! Yum. I kinda liked the chunks instead of the thin slices you usually get. It is a bit gingery, which I like. We also got a small carton of rice. The naan was so good after we heated it up a little bit. My only complaint is that it doesn't come with the meal, and it's $2 for one piece of naan. Carbs are literally the cheapest thing ever. I get they charge more for the garlic (still dumb, but I'm willing to pay), but $2 seems a bit much. I think regular naan is $1.50/ea. My advice: buy a pack of naan from Whole Foods (4 pieces) for $3.75, brush it w/ minced garlic and olive oil, stick it under the over broiler for a few minutes. Anyway, if you've had a bad experience in the last few months, I would try Cafe India again! Suburbanites, good Indian food exists in your neighborhood again!!

DELICIOUS indian food! Great lunch and dinner. I'm indian so I know my indian food! Great family owned restaurant with amazing service. Saal Makhni and naan were to die for! I highly recommend!

I'm on my 5th visit over the last 6 months or so, that by itself says a lot! The fish pakora is excellent! My favorite combo so far is the chicken tikka masala with the saag paneer, both are great.. and the onion kulcha naan bread is the bomb! I look forward to trying more dishes on my future visits, I definitely recommend!

Update: don't go by the menu from the pics posted here. All the prices are up by atleast a dollar. I am aways suprised by the final bill they charge me. The food is surprisingly good. But not really great. This is a usual restaurant where most of the curries are made with minor variations to the same sauce. so all the different curries you have on the menu, the paneer tikka, mutter paneer, vindaloo all are the same paste with different proportions. The NAANs tasted very fresh especially the ONION KULCHA we ordered was surprisingly edible

We are regulars here. The food is always great. I crave their food! The only thing we are not too crazy about is the waiters. They are very nice but the are always too quick to clean dishes off your table. As soon as you put your spoon/fork down they approach and want to take something/anything away.. We constantly have to remind them that we are still eating. This happens every single time. I feel like I am being watched and I have to act like I am still eating. Other than that, we love this place!

Went here for lunch today with a co-worker and had a great meal. They seated us promptly and then explained our options. We decided to order from the available buffet. It's the type of buffet that you don't serve yourself. They gave us healthy portions or whatever we requested. I had the wonderful rice with curry chicken and lentils. I also got to select from four different vegetables. I opted for the mixed vegetables. Finally the garlic naan bread was wonderful. A little heavy for lunch but you could opt to save some of your large portions for leftovers. The service was wonderful. I left happy. Will visit again with friends.

First of all, I am not a big fan of Indian food but thought I would try it since I live nearby and I like to see local restaurants make it. Went for lunch today and had their 2 meat plate (chicken masala and goat curry). It came with rice. I bought an extra vegetable (lentils) and naan (bread) along with an iced tea. Total was about $12.70. The food was good but I thought the served portions were a little small. I liked the chicken masala better than the goat curry (it was more bone than meat). I thought that the meal was a little overpriced for what I received. The staff was friendly and helpful. This is a small restaurant and I hope they do well. I probably won't go back because nothing I had is pulling me back. However if you like Indian food, maybe you should give it a try. Other Yelp reviews are more positive than mine. I can only give it a 3.

I saw a Cafe India menu in the breakroom at work and thought, "Hey, I can eat somethin' besides an egg sandwich from Jack in the Box (I'm a veg'tarian)!" Me and a couple guys from work figured we'd give it a shot, and so we went on on some takeout from these guys... When I got there, the nice lady behind the counter asked if I'd ever visited. When I told her I hadn't, she made me a plate with various little bits of stuff, on the house. It was all really good, too... I made it back to work, and opened up the bag of samosas, rice and naan... all good! I liked it so much that I ordered some to take home after work... Count me a regular! This place is good!!

I've been here a few times and it has been good very time. The staff is very friendly and will let you try different items before you decide which one to choose. They offer lunch plates based on 1 meat, 2 meat, or all veggies. They range in price from $4.99 to $6.99 depending on your choice. Everything else is a la carte including, naan, samosas, raita, salad, dessert, drinks. The Chicken Tikka is very good here and I make sure that is one of my choices every time. Lunch is quick since everything is already preparted and you just choose what you want cafeteria style. The place is not real big, but I have never had any problems finding a table. This is a great option for a quick healthy lunch especially for people who are vegetarians. Lots of options to choose from and the flavors of the dishes here a really good.

Dined in for an early dinner around 5:45 on a Monday and they had just opened for dinner service which starts at 5PM. Everything we had was very good and I ordered level "spicy" but felt that it could have been spicier. I highly recommend the garlic naan, lamb biryani, and chicken vindaloo. My boyfriend and I were the only ones dining in but we saw several people coming in to pick up Togo orders and lots of Togo orders were being called in. So glad there's a good Indian restaurant so close to our home. Our waitress was very nice and checked up on us about every 5 minutes............ a little awkward but nice. The only thing that I cannot recommend here is the raita which was a little off on the flavor. I don't know how to exactly explain it, but it just wasn't refreshing, which was what I was expecting. The owner even came by our table to ask us how everything was. All in all, I'd definitely return.

So I liked the food here, the taste was as good as you can expect from a decent north-indian style restaurant. However what I didn't like was: 1. I ordered Dal Makhani and it was not completely cooked. But wait, the good part was that they replaced it with another dish upon my request, the BAD part was that after talking to the main chef/owner I came to know that he already knew before serving that the Dal wasn't properly cooked and he even stated that I was smart enough to point it as usually people don't and they are fine with it. That to me was a complete turn-off as it shows that as a restaurant owner you don't have any regard for the customer's trust that they place on you while entering the store, esp. customers who don't have much knowledge of the cuisine. 2. As others have suggested, portions are kinda small, I'd say 70%-80% of what you'd find at any other place. 3. There menu explicitly says that they don't use any artificial flavors, but upon me asking they confirmed using color additives. I don't have any problem with them using that, as I think most of the India restaurants use that, but emphatically putting a statement on your menu's front-page that is not completely accurate isn't good.

I absolutely LOVE this place. I eat here all the time now, as much as i can. It's a bit far for me so i've tried to find an indian restaurant closer to me thats comparable, but have had no luck thus far! The management and the chef and therefore the FOOD is absolutely worth driving for! I've brought many coworkers, friends and family here and so far, everyone's loved it. We all even cater our house parties from here. Havent been disappointed yet... Thank you Cafe India! SPREAD THE WORD.

The area this place is in is basically "little india" --so its no wonder they have great tasting Indian Food! The tikka masala, garlic naan and mango lasi are pretty much my food staples here. Its too bad, I can never get a chance to come here for lunch, would love to try the lunch buffet!

My wife and I dinned at Cafe India and was very pleased with the entire dining experience. The service was fast , friendly and professional. The food was very fresh and very good. I ordered the Lamb Biryani and my wife ordered the buttered chicken. Both were fantastic. The friendly owner visited with us while we were there making it a very homey atmosphere. I would highly recomend this restruant.

Just got carry out today. Had garlic naan, saag paneer, began beharta and lamb curry and I really liked it all. The order came with basmati rice as well. It's a tad expensive but portions are large so I think it's worth it. Can't comment on the dining in experience but it's a narrow restaurant with maybe 20 tables. I'll be going back for sure. Wish they had delivery.

This was my family's 1st experience at Cafe India. The staff was very welcoming and helpful, and the food was great. I had the Chicken Vindaloo (spicy!!) and my wife and son had the Chicken Tikki Masala. The Mango Lassi was so good that refills were a must. One of us is vegetarian, and the staff had no problem accomodating. The restaurant is small but clean. Portion sizes and prices are reasonable. Chris (the owner) stopped by our table and we had a good conversation with him - he was the perfect host. We will definitely go back, as the overall atmosphere is very inviting.

Best Indian in the Burbs! We go every once in a while for dinner or takeout. I'm pretty sure we've tried everything and have yet to be disappointed. Their naan selection is plentiful and delish-- the Kashmiri naan the one with nuts and raisins makes for an indulgent dessert! We frequent many of the bests of Indian in and around town and are super happy to have found a tastes one nearby. The entrees are reasonably priced and the portions are great. A couple can share 3 entrees and leave stuffed easily! I do find their dishes to be very rich sometimes too rich, so this is great for a day when you've been eating light!

We try to pick up a to-go order from them about once a week. We love the onion kulcha, saag paneer, and chicken tikka masala. They often make some little thing extra for us to try when we dine in. Good people and good food!

This place is fantastic!! Very clean, fresh food, great taste and awesome customer service! The prices are great and the food was fresh, good quality, and just the right amount to fill you up! At lunch they have a buffet style or order off the menu! The chicken tikka masala was phenomenal! They also make garlic naan upon request for no additional cost! $9.00 for a full meal, drink, and naan! Excellent value!! Highly recommend!!!

We ordered take out from here. Being indian, our expectations are naturally high. The food was awesome! Probably the best indian food I have had in a while. We ordered the chicken sheik kebab, chicken Tikka masala, and lamb Rogan gosh. All were superb. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because we found the portions a bit small for the price and I had ordered 1 garlic naan but received all plain.

We've hunted everywhere for a good Indian Restaurant on the west side of Houston. This place has been the best in terms of food quality, price, and service. We eat here a couple times per month now.

I must start my review by saying, food was excellent there...the portion size was little small but looking at the price/portion ratio, I think it is good. the only reason I am giving 3 star to this restaurant because of the owner's behavior to his employee. My story goes like this: We (4 friends) yelped for the quick Indian food at about 4:10 and after reaching there we realized that, they don't open till 5. Since we were already there, we decided to grab few drinks at a Mexican restaurant (few suite to the left) since it was Friday... LOL!!!. An elderly gentleman open the door (@ about 4: 55) and got us seated a took our order and told us that the server was running little late. we ordered "MALAI KOFTA & CHICKEN VINDALOO) with 4 naan and 2 plates of rice. After about 5 minutes the owner walked in, we could just tell by his attitude that he was the owner of the place and few minutes after him arrived the bus boy and the waiter. they got a solid piece of his mind right in front of us. Moreover, the server asked us if we were doing good and we ordered an extra Naan. After a while owner looked at our check and I guess the boy forgot to add the extra Naan in the check so, he got yelled at right in front of our eyes. Owner said and I quote, "THE EXTRA NAAN IS COMING OUT FROM YOUR PAY-CHECK). Poor boy, got super embarrassed. I understand that running a business is a tough thing but, I must say the owner of the restaurant was a straight up Douche-bag who made the experience super awkward for us. Despite the food being excellent, I don't see my self going there again. Kudos, to wait staff and chef for excellent service and food respectively.

This is the closest easy quick or to-go for us that isn't pizza or bad Chinese or fast food, and we get here at least once a month. The current ownership is by far the best of the string of owners in this spot over the last decade, and we've yet to be disappointed. It's very family, very friendly, and we very much like the food. Good stuff!

Very tasty food, chicken tikka masala was awesome, we added spicy sauce that Chris gave us on side to make it extra spicy for us and kids can enjoy mild. The spicy sauce has eexcellent taste to it. Goat curry was fabulous. Mostly my kids loved the food at this place so we will keep going to cafe India.

I'm far from an expert of Indian food, but this place is a nice break from the usual dining. The food is flavorful, the tikka masala is yummy and the garlic naan is very good. My husband ordered the chicken vindaloo and even though he sweated he said it was delicious and ate every bit. The portions are quite satisfying, but not Texas sized and the dining room is intimate.

It was a cold May 2nd night and what better way to warm up than with Indian food. I Yelped and Cafe India popped up. I am glad it did. Cafe India is in a strip center right off the beltway and West road. It is clean and bright and felt like I was walking into a friend's home. We had the Chicken Tikka Masala which is a great yardstick for us when trying a new Indian place. It was great! Not overly buttery and it had a little ginger bite to it which I thought was a nice twist. The chicken biryani was also very nice and was complimented quite nicely by the raita. The portions were large and we took plenty home for lunch tomorrow. Service was fast and friendly. We will certainly be back again.

Just moved to the area a few months ago. I discovered Cafe India last week. Great find! Awesome food! My new favorite to go place. We have eaten three meals here already and we just discovered it last week. The food here is really really tasty!!!!

My fiancé and I recently moved to the area. We are both in sales and work late hours. We stopped in for lunch on our day off. The service was cafeteria style, the food was most certainly not. Buy far this is the best Indian food we have ever had! The flavors are layerd and complex. We now find ourselves placing to-go orders several times a week to pick up on the way home. Have orderd several different dishes and all have been equally delicious. I highly recommend the garlic Naan-incredible! If you have the chance to stop in it definitely be worth you while.

Writing a review for Café India is so hard because I don't know where to start. By far, this is the best Indian food I've eaten in town. At all time, either mom, dad, or the daughter are out there. They are stellar overall--food and service. Three months ago, the hubby and I moved t the neighborhood behind the restaurant, and were in the search of 'our neighborhood restaurants'. We have many blockbuster nights and simply lazy nights where we like to pick up some GOOD food and relax. Our first time here, we walked in with hesitation, and left with bewilderment at how delicious the food were. Chris, the owner, made it a goal to greet every table, and spoke to us shortly. Very genuine and sweet family. *Atmosphere: Please don't come if you're expecting a modern, trendy restaurant. Not much décor going on here, mama and papa shop, and it is very small. However, it will feel warm and welcome because of the people; and you'll feel belong because you're among a unanimous group of customers nodding head to the tasty food, and snapping pictures of the food to Facebook and Instagram. LOL. *Food: I've tried the samosa, chicken tikka, chicken tikka masala, saag paneer, chicken biryani, and the garlic naan. Let's just say we never have leftover. The saag paneer is different to us because we've never tried that anywhere before, and it caught us off guard with how delicious it was. As for the chicken biryani, chicken tikka masala, and garlic naan...hands down, the best! You can taste the fresh seasonings and ingredients. Just when I didn't think they could possibly outdo themselves any further, they did....for our rehearsal dinner. I was stressing at the time about choosing a venue where it will accommodate my need for great food and a warm intimate atmosphere for our families to mingle. One afternoon, I stopped in for another to-go, and saw the "Party Platter" sign. *Ding!* I asked Chris if they will make food for 30 people. Of course he said yes. (LOL!) It's funny that people usually starts preparing for something like this by finding a venue first, then move on from there. I start with the food, and figure the rest out later. While talking to Chris, I thought, "Let's have it at our new home!" It was decided. He sat me down, made some great suggestions for the menu, and told me not to worry about anything. I paid a small extra amount to have the food delivered to forgo the stress of arranging pickup. On the day of, we focused on decorating the house and backyard, set up the drinks, and food warmers--Chris and a helper came on time, brought the food in and walked us through what was what. From a stressful bride, they were an ease to my worries on our rehearsal dinner night. We received so much compliments. We ended up with near 40 people. There were much leftovers that are still in my freezer now. Total bill including a $25 delivery? ~$360! Wow.... Thank you Chris and your family =)

Pretty expensive for the food they offer. Dish we ordered was much spicier than expect.

Great neighborhood option. My husband and I are not connoisseurs of Indian cuisine, but we enjoyed the chicken tikka masala and several appetizers. Service is friendly and they accommodate BYOB.

Food was Luke warm. They pre made nan and everything is so expensive if you add them up it like 15 dollars

Last time I was here, my food was gross, horrible, very bad. Then my coworker told me that someone new had taken over the place and that the food was awesome. I was skeptical and decided to wait a long time before trying it again just to give it time to let the new wear off, to see if the "greatness" everyone was talking about would last past the initial opening. The verdict? MUCH improved! My recent vegetarian diet transition has left me struggling when I go out to eat- a girl can only stand so many salads. Indian food is always a great place to eat since they have so many wonderful non-meat dishes. I got the Saag Paneer, Dal, rice, and a piece of naan. The saag paneer was very tasty- a nice strong spinach flavor and a rich flavorful cream sauce. I think my eyes closed when I took the first bite. The dal didn't disappoint either- the lentil dish was delightfully spicy and got my nose running a little- exactly what I look forward to when I eat Indian food! I am so happy to have such a great lunch place near me again and I look forward to eating here a lot from now on.

As most indian resturaunts this place is only open at certain times. Rather than being your typical Indian buffet or resturaunt they are more cafeteria style. It looks like the place may be family owned and although small the food is very delicious. The service is fast and the staff is very polite. Being someone with a mixed family (my stepfather is indian) i am very familiar with the food and always looking for something comparable to my grandmothers recipes. The Chicken Tikka Masala recipe was darn close to hers and I appreciated that cause nothing beats amachi's cooking. The only thing that threw me off a little was the fact that their water came out of an igloo cooler, but I still drank it anyway. I will be returning soon!

We had yet to find a good hole in the wall Indian joint up by us. Man did we find it!! We had been craving Indian food but didn't want to get all dressed up like some of the nicer places on Gessner and wanted a quick nice meal so we decided to try Cafe India. When you first see it, it's in a strip mall but what in Houston isn't right? Apparently they just reopened to new management. We grabbed a seat and the waitress was super friendly! She brought us our drinks and gave us some crispy dosas (not sure what they are called technically) to munch on. We ended up ordering chicken tikka masala, saag paneer, chicken madras and samosas. First off we got the samosas - FAN FRICKEN TASTIC! Some samosas are heavily curried and that's all you taste. These are very subtle with pieces of potato (not mashed up) and big peas and lots of cilantro. SO GOOD. Next we got our main dishes. The chicken madras had a great amount of heat to it, the saag paneer was creamy and yummy and the chicken tikka was spot on. I almost had to stop myself from licking the plate. The owner (I assume he was the owner) was super friendly and came over and talked to us. Great guy running a fabulous restaurant! He even brought over small rice puddings with pistachio at our table before the check (I am a sucker for pistachio). Our anniversary was yesterday and right now we really wished we had gone to this hole in the wall rather than the nicer place with subpar food. We will be coming here a lot. A - LOT!

I have eaten here many times and each time I am not disappointed. The staff is super friendly and polite, the food is incredible! I've eaten at several other Indian restaurants including Kirans and the food is right on par with them except a fraction of the cost. Me and my husband can both eat for under $30! Highly recommend the saag paneer and tiki masala!!!

Great Indian food just down the street from my house! I used to live in NYC and was spoiled by living blocks away from Curry row down in the village, and at one point living right above an Indian restaurant. I pretty much only order take out from this place and it is usually the lamb vindaloo, chicken Tiki Masala, and naan bread. The place does not serve alcohol but you can byob and there is a liquor store next door.

Had it last night!. The absolute best Indian food I've ever had!!! The lamb and goat curry were amazing. The Samosas incredible. And, I don't know how you get Naan to be that delicious. Seriously top shelf cuisine. Will be back at least once a week!

I'd take a pass. The food isn't bad but the Cafeteria style isn't a good value. For lunch there are many other buffets that give you soup and many more options for less.

Had the lamb roganjosh chef platter, saag paneer, and garlic naan. Delicious! The dessert was too sweet for my taste. Service was also great. I will come back again.

Chicken Biryani was very good. This was our first time to visit this restaurant. It doesn't look like much from outside since it is just in a strip center, but we were pleasantly surprised and like it very much, we will go back!!!

In an effort to be more health conscious, I'm eating vegetarian this month. I call it #MeatlessMay. I salute vegetarians and vegans cause I see how limited your food choices are if you eat out. I rarely cook, btw. I'm a fan of indian food but by no means a connoisseur. I figured they'd have some nice vegetarian options that would be more filling than soup and salad and I was right. I went for lunch & tried the veggie plate that comes with two veggies and rice for $4.99. I had the black lentils & Sag paneer with rice on Wednesday and enjoyed it so I went back on Thurday switching the lentils for garbonzo beans. I has a veggie somosa and naan bread both days. I enjoyed both meals but I'd say that I was hoping for a bit more flavor with the sag paneer. It's my favorite indian dish. I will surely be back for more veggie lunch specials. great price and close to my job.

Visited last night and this restaurant provides the most authentic curry that I have experienced in Houston. We had the CTM and Lamb Rogan which was delicious, just as I expect and like it. The rice and Nan bread was good as was the vegetable dishes. I had the Okra and Egg plant sides. The Mango Lassi was great as were the pappadoms. A little more choice on the chutneys to go with them would help. The food was cheap and delicious. They do not sell alcohol but the store next door sells alcohol and you are free to bring the beer into the restaurant. All in all it was a great experience and the staff were attentive. I will be back.

The only 5-star Indian food in West Houston. New mgmt and new chef took over in Oct 2012 and totally turned the food and service around. This is the only Indian food I will eat (and I did not like Indian food before Cafe India). This is a must-try if you like tasty and/or spicy food and want a delightful change from the ordinary. Recommendations: - Lunch (cafateria style) - Chicken Madras (spicy, yum) - Chicken Masala - Butter chicken - Lentils - Naan - Tandoori chicken

My husband and I ate here some time ago, and decided not to come back. Recently we have seen the flyers and decided to give it one more try. Now they are under new management and we couldn't be more pleased. The food is fresh. The staff is friendly. We really enjoyed the chilli paneer, garlic naan and chicken tikka. The saag paneer and chicken biryani are excellent. No more need to make the drive to Hillcroft! Take it from us, we are Indian. :) We are excited to have great Indian food just around the corner from us now! We have gone twice already within a week and plan to keep coming back.

My wife and I ate here last Friday night for the first time and it was wonderful. We ordered the Fish Pakora appetizer and it was amazing! Light, crispy and just the right amount of seasoning. The Chicken Tikka Masala was perfectly cooked and I ordered mine spicy. Whew! The garlic nan and the rice helped tame the heat and I loved every minute of it. The rice pudding was the perfect way to finish the wonderfuly spicy meal. The place is tiny, well lit and very clean. Everyone was very friendly and very helpful. They obviously do a large to-go business as several customers came and went during our meal. We will be going back very soon!

It's really unfortunate... but the food has declined dramatically under the new owners. My colleagues and I discussed this a few times. I've visited a few times after the change (hey, it could take a while for the new owners to "figure it out")... but, sadly, it gets knocked-down several notches. We used to visit weekly. Now... it's a rarity that we consider going. They're polite. The food is "okay..." but it lacks variety, spice, and "full flavor." They still have to run next door to the liquor store to run credit cards. It's... meh -- and the only Indian place in that area. Oh well. Again, it's "okay."

Under new management and the quality of food is great. For me, the convenience of being right off the beltway, getting food ordered and served hot, and delicious combined with costing less than most comparable places makes this place a weekly visit. Do yourself a favor and get some tasty indian food here.
