Food was decent. Service is terrible. Waiter couldn't tell me what type of pasta the mushroom chicken dish was served over. What topped it off was seeing him comb his hair with his hands and then handling dinner plates, glasses, etc. Never washed. Also noticed several wait staff grabbing lemons for water with their bare hands. Never washed. Disgusting. Won't be back.

Three orders of blackened redfish, three plates of over cooked tough fish. Two of the plates were supposed to be smothered in etoufee and there may have been a couple of teaspoons of sauce under the fish. Our sides of potatoes and dirty rice were cold. My wifed asked for her potatoes to be heated and we let the waiter know that the fish was overcooked. Instead of offering to replace it with properly cooked fish we were offered a free dessert. We too received our bill with a 20% gratuity added for our dinner party of FOUR. You'd think for a $240 meal you'd be treated a little better. Needless to say we won't be going back.

We loved Gumbo's in Round Rock and were happy to see the place open in Georgetown. I believe it's the same owners. The location is right on the square, in a historic building that has probably housed 3-4 restaurants in the past 5 years. In our opinion, Gumbo's is the best restaurant experience you'll find in downtown Georgetown. The service is very good, the food preparation is competent (if not spectacular), and the drinks are good. Prices are on the high side, but not outrageous. The seafood gumbo is highly recommended (although not quite as good as it was in Round Rock), and the seafood dishes are always fresh and tasty.

Had Brunch the service was poor but the young wait staff was friendly there was no milk for coffee,no egg whites, you can't order just an omelet you had to go with buffet breakfast for $16.95 I feel was not a good value .The buffet setup was poor when you lift a lid off a tray you had to place it on top of tray next to it and also I noticed there was dirty plates on top of one of the tray covers I took them off and placed it on the bar adjacent to buffet .The food was not anything special I gave 1 star for the shrimp crepes. I would not recommend this place.

What a great place for good food. The gumbo is the. Best I've ever had, crab cakes actually have all crab and no fillers. Good parking, great service, what else could I ask for, yum,!!! Gotta go, really good,

We went to Gumbo's on a Sunday in early March and had a good experience. There was no wait and not much of a crowd which I was surprised to see as every time I walk by it seems packed. The brunch options are quite good, we got the shrimp and grits and eggs benedict.. The shrimp and grits were prepared perfectly. We also had a mimosa and bloody mary - both done very well. We asked to sit outside which was no problem (not the same with other Georgetown restaurants with outdoor seating). Highly recommend and outdoor seat if you can get one. Couple cons: an order was wrong (should have been the crabcake benedict) and the prices are a little high.

Don't eat here! The service was really bad and the hostess was rude. Worst of all there were bugs in my coffee. We ended up just canceling our order and leaving. Plenty of other great places in Georgetown, save your time and just go somewhere else!!!

Try the crawfish étouffée. This the best you're going to find outside of New Orleans. Also the Creole Caesar salad is killer!

Would not recommend to go here if your in a hurry! Service is very slow and the staff is not friendly. Had to ask for things several times and ordered food and took we'll over 45 minutes. 2nd time- Do not go here to have a private party either! Staff is just unfriendly, and you feel like you are a hassle to them. Would not recommend.

One of the worst eating experiences I've had. I would have rather gone to McDonald's. I wouldn't serve this to my neighbors dog. If I had one opportunity to give no stars, I definitely would use it now. Everything was bland and rather tasteless. At least the server was nice.

First let me say that this place was great! Rice, our server was super awesome. Food was delicious! Scenery was warm and comfy. My wife and I have a nice romantic dinner! The old architecture was very cool!

Been here about half a dozen times. In the past, we sat upstairs and the service was usually horrible. This time we had excellent service. We sat downstairs and Pepe was a our waiter. My wife and I started off with a delicious cup of Crab Gumbo. She had the special, Blackened Coho topped with a tomatillo sauce. I had the Tilapia St. George. Both dishes were great. Wife and I wish they had the special permanently on their menu. In my opinion, the items on the menu might be a tad bit too high. Other than that, food is great. If you go upstairs, expect 10min for a drink. Avoid upstairs unless unless you sit at the bar.

Meh, It's alright. I am originally from New Orleans and I have had cajun food cooked for me all my life and I like to stick to my parents cooking. So when I go out to eat it's not cajun food I like to get. I mean I am not going to say that the food is terrible but it's not perfect either. Also, the prices are a little bit too high for the amount of food you get. I mean I don't mind paying a little more as long as I get every penny's worth. Here, you get maybe half of what you pay for. I mean if I am starving and this is the only place around I would go back but other than that... probably not.

If you are considering dining at Gumbo's in Georgetown, stop and go to Long John Silver's and order some fried shrimp from the drive-thru window. If and only if you have a good experience and enjoy the food, proceed to Gumbo's. My wife and I dined here twice in that past six months and both time had a less than stellar experiences. But the final straw was this past Saturday, June 15 2013. They were having a wedding in their private dining room and as a result it took them 20 minutes to even greet us at our table and only after we flagged down a food runner and asked them to bring us a menu. It took ninety minutes from the time we arrived to the time we actually received our very cold, very limp looking and expensive meals. My shrimp looked like it had it had just been tossed on the plate and was cold, underdone and just gross. My wife's fish was cold and the sauce was congealed, indicating it had been on the plate for a long time. And we both had stomach issues later that evening and into the next day. After our food arrived I asked to speak to a manager and a young woman who looked like she just graduated from high school hesitantly came over to our table. After I explained our frustration and told her we did not expect anything but felt she should know, she told us she was going to "speak to her chef." That was the last we saw of her. Our waiter stopped back by to make sure "we got it all sorted out." Really! Yes James, our cold gross food suddenly got better because your manager went and talked to the chef. Our bill did not include the removal of any items, which we were fine with. And no free desert was offered, which we were again fine with (honestly I don't think we could have eaten one more thing coming out of that kitchen). As we said we did not want anything. What we did not say was that we did not want to at least receive some sort of explanation and apology. To top it all off, the manager would not even make eye contact as we finally escaped that dining hell. We've loved Gumbo's for years, starting with original in the strip mall, and then the downtown location and finally the Round Rock location before it moved to Georgetown (we realize they are not all affiliated with one another). But Gumbo's will never, ever see another dollar from me. Bad food is one thing, but indifference by the staff to the fact that they are pumping out garbage and charging a fair amount for it is an entirely different thing. It's so sad to say that Gumbo's is dead, at least in Georgetown.

Gumbo's is delicious. We always find something there we like, and the atmosphere is great in the historic Masonic Lodge building on the Georgetown Square. There is a bar upstairs with a large outdoor patio and live music as well, which also serves the same food as the restaurant downstairs. Always worth the trip!

Wow! Georgetown's busting at the seams with exciting new restaurants! Gumbos opened last week: Now I've been twice. The first time I embarrassed myself by licking the etouffee bowl clean. But it was that good. This evening (Friday) there was a musician in the lounge, and we had amazing calimari and wine on the outdoor balcony while watching the sun set. Sigh. Life is good in Georgetown. My new favorite place.

The food and service is fantastic. I actually look forward to lunch meetings now because I can always choose Gumbo's! So glad to have it. It is super for special occasions to. If you are looking for a wonderful meal in Georgetown you must give it a try. You will definitely go back!

As a long time Lover of Gumbos it saddens me to have to write this review, however I was so appalled at the quality/quantity/presentation of food and the lack of customer service my boyfriend and I received this past Saturday that I feel obligated to share our experience. We arrived at Gumbos Saturday evening around 8:15, we were promptly seated at a nice table near the bar downstairs. The dining room was full, however most of the tables were finishing up desert or drinks, and getting ready to leave. Our waitress came right over and took our drink order, and returned with them very quickly. We then proceeded to order a bowl of gumbo to start off with and went ahead and ordered our entrees. Salmon was the fish of the day so we both went with salmon entrees I went with salmon Rockefeller (which has always been my favorite at Gumbos!)and my boyfriend went with the special.....which was a blackened salmon with dirty rice and I believe he got veggies as well. Our experience up to here was fantastic.....then our gumbo came out. We ordered the seafood gumbo and there was one piece of seafood in it.....one sad and lonely cocktail size shrimp.....and it was cold.....not just the lone shrimp the whole bowl of gumbo. We ate a few bites anyways and chalked it up to it being later in the evening and decided it was prob best we didn't stuff ourselves with Gumbo before our entrees came out! So we enjoyed another glass of wine and waited for the rest of our meal. Thirty minutes later we still hadnt been served. By this point we were the only table in our section by the bar and we thought it was kind of strange that we still hadn't received our food. Another fifteen minutes go by and our dinner finally arrives. As soon as I saw our entrees I was immediately let down.....the portion and presentation looked like something you would get at a chilli's or Applebee's. It didn't get any better from there. Both of our entrees were cold, and I'm not talking kind of warm or luke warm I mean flat out cold. Like they had been sitting in the kitchen for hours. The waitress came by to ask us how our meal was and I informed her that both our plates were cold she immediately apologized and took our plates away and told us she would have the chef fix it. A few minutes later she came back with same exact plates from before, with the same exact bites that we had taken out earlier and gave them back to us........and they were.........wait for it......still cold. The only thing remotely warm were the potatoes on my plate. At this point we were just ready to get our ticket and get the hell out of dodge......so we asked for the check and the waitress apologized again and said she would be sending her manager over. The manager then proceeded to come over to the table and apologize and tell us how swamped the kitchen was, and let us know that she would be giving us a gift certificate for the next time we decide to dine with them. We told her that wasnt necessary because we wouldn't be back and that we would really just like our check. While we were waiting on our check another couple was seated in our section. As soon as they sat down they realized one of the legs on their table was broken or shorter than the others making their table very uneven and wobbly.....instead of moving them to another one of the three open tables in that section the hostess proceeds to get down on her hands and knees in between the couples legs while they are still seated at the table and stick a ticket book under the leg of the table. Aside from our very polite and attentive waitress our entire dining experience at Gumbos was an Epic Fail!!! I think the worst part about everything was that i had spent all week talking up Gumbos to my boyfriend whom had never dined there before.......it was my birthday and he wanted to take me somewhere nice and i insisted that we go here! I left embarrassed, disappointed and starving! Needless to say we will not be dining here again!

Our family enjoyed a wonderful July 5th Brunch at Gumbo's. Ryan provided attentive service with a smile and made excellent recommendations for us. We enjoyed the following: Crawfish Eddy, Blackened Salmon Salad, Crawfish Poboy, Salmon Rockefeller, Crab Cakes Benedict. All were scrumptious, as were the brunch beverages. I had no idea I was a Salty Dog. Thanks for an enjoyable holiday meal.

Absolutely exceptional food. I travel across the country and this place is as good or better than any I have had the pleasure to partake. I had the Salmon Rockefeller and it was spectacular. The cream spinach sauce was just right and not overwhelming. Service was excellent. Try the salmon!!!

A night out with just my hunny and me. This was the second time we've eaten here and it was every bit as good as the first time. The first time I went for lunch during Christmas on the square. I absolutely loved what i got! I wish I could have remembered what it was! This time I went for something simple. I started with the Spinach Salad, which had a wonderful dressing and strawberries. Then the Blackened Salmon with Parmesan Asparagus. Hubby had some crawfish, jalapeño pasta dish, which was pretty spicy to me, but he likes spicy. We shared the chocolate bread pudding to end it, which was fantastic! We ate it all even though we were stuffed! I see other reviews complaining about the service, but I've not had a problem either time that we were there. There was a live singer while we were there, who was great, and the atmosphere was perfect. Definitely will go back.

Pseudo classy joint. The "pseudo" flickering candle on our table was in fact a flashing light. The waiter brought one menu and said sorry, that's all we got right now. What??? I requested sweet n low and he said "it's a long way down to the kitchen and when you have to go there fifty times a night, you know...". Ok, I'll survive without sweet n low although I DO prefer it. My blackened catfish over crawfish was delicious, the pasta my companion had was good although skimpy on shrimp. 3 shrimp on the dish. My side of broccoli was overlooked but tasty. The food is good but the service is lacking, maybe it was just an "off" night. Will I return? Maybe. Three stars due to service and apathy.

I was excited to try this place as I had seen it several times while visiting Georgetown and it looked like a good place to get some authentic southern food. I like to compare non-corporate restaurants to their more famous corporate ones so that people can get an idea of how they compare to something they already know. The problem with a non-corporate restaurant is that you never know what you are going to get. Price is also usually higher or at best, the same as the corporate ones. My baseline for Cajun food is Razoo's. They are the go to for us if we want some Cajun cookin. The menu at Gumbo's is small, which is usually a good thing because they can focus on a few good things and do them well. One of the reasons I was excited to eat here was the ambiance and the building this place calls home. It had really cool decorations and ironwork. Seemed like a great place for a creole restaurant. While we were waiting to order, our server brought us some really good sourdough bread. Big-holed spongy moist interior, and a perfect crust were well complimented with the garlic and spice infused butter they served it with. I ordered the blackened catfish with the crawfish etoufee and dirty rice. I am not a huge catfish fan, but the reviews here were positive and my wife loves it so we could split it. She got the sensation salad and crab cakes. The service was really good and we got our food right when we expected it. The catfish was really good. Perfect amount of seasoning and was really hot (temp) and perfect spiciness. Same with the etoufee. Really good sauce and the crawfish were really good too. I would have been happy with a little more, but there was enough. The dirty rice looked really good. I wanted it to be good. But it was cold and I don't think it was seasoned (with salt) at all. It's not hard to make even passable rice, but they missed passable by a long shot. Salting after the fact is unacceptable as well, there is a reason you salt it while it's cooking. One-half star for the rice. Another problem was the fact that they only give 1 side on a $20 entree. Really? It's common to have 2 or 3 sides at least so you get a protein, starch, and a veggie. I had to fork out another 2+ dollars to get a veg with my meal. I was excited to hear it was brocolli, cauliflower and carrots. My excitement lessened considerably when I saw the plate of veggies, and even more so when I tasted it. The problem was that they were cold, previously frozen, and absolutely unseasoned. (Again seasoning at the table is unacceptable imo.) That is not acceptable at $20+ per plate. (a lot of entrees were $25+ and i doubt they serve different veggies for the higher priced entrees.) The sensation salad was really flavorful and tasted fresh. The dressing is really good and different than most vinaigrette dressings. The problem was that it was just a spring mix with tomatoes and calamata olives. Not too exciting but good. My wife really liked her crab cakes and just looking at them, they looked really good. A lot of crab meat and the 2 together were big enough to be an entree, (she got the appetizer as her entree.) I thought they tasted ok, but the capers and sauce they put on the plate really overtook the flavor of the crab and I couldn't even taste any crab flavor. My wife agreed with that sentiment but still liked them a lot. They definitely looked a lot better than they tasted. All in all, the food was good except for the exceptions I already mentioned. If the negatives had been passable even, I would probably give 4 stars. As it is, I had a tough choice giving even 3 stars. The same dishes at the corporate restaurant would have cost almost half and the sides would have been seasoned appropriately. When I pay double for food, it better knock my socks off or at least be better than the corporate places. Granted, the catfish almost did knock my socks off, it was that good, but the rest was the same as, or much worse than the corporate place. Gumbo's is a long way off from a 5-star rating, but could change a couple of things to bump it to 4 pretty easily. This is another fine example of a higher priced restaurant not being better than the corporate ones.

Very impressed, I was reluctant at first because of some of the reviews but thank goodness I'm a true foodie and had to see for myself... I had the Salmon Rockefeller , it was perfectly cooked, well seasoned and I wanted more. The service was great my waitress knew the menu inside and out and had great suggestions.. It had an intimate setting and if you are up to it a classy loungr awaits you upstairs. I loved it!!!

The ONLY reason I give Gumbo's two stars is that the food was pretty good. When we finally got it. First of all ... it is important to note that Gumbo's is NOT ADA compliant. It was explained to us, that due to the building being historically significant, it is not required to be ADA compliant. I don't know if this is true, but ... my father in law had a terrible time even getting into the restaurant. The place was fairly empty when we (finally) got in, and seated at our table. Everything started out fine, cheerful, friendly waiter, got us water, and after a while cocktails. Then we ordered our food. And started to wait. Meanwhile, the place started filling up. After we had our cups of gumbo as an appetizer, the dirty bowls sat on the table. And sat. And sat. I got up to use the rest room and noticed that a large party who came in some time after we did, had their meals. Meanwhile, my poor FIL was sitting in a very uncomfortable chair, with his left leg going numb, quite miserable. And time passed. And passed. It doesn't take a lot to make me get up to complain. But I had to ... TWICE. I complained to our waiter that it was taking entirely too long to get our food ... not to mention the dirty bowls on our table. His answer was that we had "appetizers" first (two cups of gumbo) ... that's why the other group got their food first. Really?! Back to the table I went ... and STILL NOTHING. I got up AGAIN and complained to another waiter. This time I was pretty irate, and I was about to go over the edge. Finally our food arrived (the large party was finishing up and getting ready to leave by this time). It was good ... tasty ... but the bad taste in my mouth from the service kinda ruined it for me. The waiter was so "generous" in making up for our terrible service ... by comping us one of the cocktails that we had. And made us feel like he was giving us the moon by doing so. Are you kidding me? That's it? No free dessert (which I think would have been the MINIMUM to make up for our miserable experience). I can't express what a nightmare it was ... it was my husband's birthday and it was completely ruined. It was almost laughable how miserable it was. I guess the thing I would recommend is to get your dinner to go. The "service" was ridiculous.

Had lunch here on a Friday. The wait was a bit long considering there were few other guests. I had grilled catfish and seafood gumbo, the food was over spiced. I can eat spicy things but this was just too much. The menu had many options and I would recommend trying the food at least once, just be aware of the spice.

I have only been here one time on a lunch break from work. I have about a 45min break normally. I walked in here because their website stated they offer an express lunch. I ordered water, and the half Po Boy Shrimp sandwich, steak fries and the seafood gumbo. The Seafood gumbo was so good! I could not finish the sandwich but that was also delicious, I took it home for leftovers along with the steak fries and that was good the next day heated up in the oven. I will return because I was in and out in 20min or less.

My family and I went to Gumbos for brunch on a Sunday morning. I absolutely loved it. I ordered the shrimp and jalapeño cheese grits. They were pretty spicy, ( i have a high tolerance of spice) which I loved. They were extra creamy, and so full of flavor. The portion size was not skimpy whatsoever. The shrimp, large might I add, were cooked perfectly. It was just good all around. They brought out some sliced fruit for the kids. The mimosas were only $3! WHAT? It was a really enjoyable brunch. I'm surprised the place wasn't packed. We will be back ASAP for brunch for sure. So good. Compliments to the chef. Management was really great too.

We sat ourselves in the bar on the second floor. It is very busy due to the red poppy festival going on. We arrived at 12:15 and didn't get a waiter to pay attention to us for over 20 minutes. While we sat here, with hungry boys, we watched three tables filled, and drinks orders taken and served. We still were not given menus and no silverware. My husband had to hunt down menus. Then after finding a waiter he took our full order. Thirty minutes later we received our drinks. Fifteen minutes later we asked for the bread that everyone else around us has second and third helpings of bread. 25 minutes after that he came by to tell us our food was third in line. We asked for more bread, our 5 and 8 year old boys are contemplating cannibalism at this point. The table next to us is seething with anger for the same reasons and begins to yell at the waiter. He blames the festival and said they can eat or get the check. They wait for a bit. The manager comes out and apologizes and blames the festival. He basically told them that they could wait for their food or take the check for what they drank. They opted for the check. An hour and a half after sitting down. My three boys received their food. My youngest loved his. My middle ordered fettuccine with butter and Parmesan cheese. He got the butter but no Parmesan. When we questioned it the waiter said it was mixed in with the noodles. There wasn't a single piece of cheese on the noodles. He took it back to fix. My oldest got a tarragon sauce with fettuccine. It was so spicy he couldn't eat it. It was taken back to change to Alfredo sauce. I couldn't believe that they would have a kids meal that was spicy. Finally, my husband and my food arrive. Ours were good but not good enough for a two hour wait. This festival has been going on for 12 years now. They know how many people will come through here. This is the perfect chance to get new regular customers. Instead of going the extra mile for unhappy customers, they blame the festival. We received our bill and received a 20% gratuity for our trouble. I will NEVER come here again. Not friendly, not family friendly and crazy poor service.

We have been here three times and each time is an epic FAIL. Each time the wait for food is over an hour. The last time took the cake though. We ordered a salad and blackened shrimp at 7:30pm. At 8:15 another family came in and took a table in the bar next to us. They had their food in 15 minutes. We still hadn't received our meal. The wait staff is friendly but way overworked. When we entered the bar area upstairs, we were told to take any table. When I mentioned they were all in need of bussing, and then saw the overflowing bus buckets, I knew we would bus our own table and we had to. Seriously. We gave this place three tries and every time, FAIL. We never did get our food and went else where. So disappointed.

Last evening my husband and I had an amazing dinner at Gumbo's on the square in Georgetown. We almost didn't go because of the poor reviews, but so glad we did, because we would have missed this delicious dinner. Our waiter was attentive, knowledgeable, and very efficient. Jessica was the manager on duty and took care of some out of the ordinary request very professionally. She was up front and honest when she didn't understand exactly what we requested, but listened, check with her owner and handled everything with courtesy and a smile. Now for the food, oh my! We have just returned last week from a 20 day vacation in Louisiana and found Gumbos to be equal to anything we had there. My husband had a fabulous stuffed trout with sides of a spinach stuffed tomato and cheddar mashed potatoes. It came out perfect, hot, and in a timely manner. I ate off the appetizer menu and had two delicious crab cakes with capers and a cup of seafood gumbo. Both were excellent. My gumbo was full of shrimp, crawfish and other fish. It was hot, tasty, and my roux was dark, smooth, and well done. (I know a good roux because I had a Cajun mil for many many years.) My only regret is that we were so full we did not have any bread pudding. I am dying to try their chocolate bread pudding. If you don't give Gumbos a chance because of some of the whining reviews I read, believe me, YOU will miss an excellent dining experience.

This is my go to special dinner place. I will concede that I HATE the table set up and really wish for more space. That said, the tenderloin is always cooked to perfection and can be cut with a fork. Their amazing appetizer selections are always delicious and offer options that aren't available in this area. I miss their old location, but I'm grateful they took the chef with them!

This is NOT the original Gumbo's by any stretch of the imagination. Baked Oysters Rockefeller - doused in Pernod ( a sweet, licorice flavored liqueur). Why?? Oysters were clearly of the canned variety, placed in an oyster shell from who knows where. You can tell when an oyster belongs to the shell it's inside. Troubling. Food came out lukewarm which concerns me with non-fresh seafood. Bread was oddly served in a napkin without a means to cut it, and butter was dropped on a lonely little plate. Awkward service set-ups. Overall, understaffed (waiters will be pouring your drinks as well), poorly executed, and somewhat concerning, food preparation-wise. This was a Wednesday night, btw.

My husband and I visited Gumbo's in Georgetown for the first time on Valentine's Day this year. Although the food was good, we had a horrible experience. I emailed the following to the address listed on their website, and a month later still have not received any reply. We will not be going back. My husband and I visited Gumbo's North for the first time on Valentine's Day. We heard good things from friends in the past, and were very excited to visit. Unfortunately, our visit was extremely disappointing, and I would like to share my feedback. "Our reservations were for 7:15pm, and we showed up about 10 minutes early. We were immediately taken to a table in the upstairs bar area, and the ladies working the host station were lovely! After 15-20 minutes, our server had not visited our table at all. I went back downstairs to the hostess to ask for assistance. Almost immediately our server finally visited our table to take our drink order. We ordered an appetizer and a bottle of wine, and it took about another 15 minutes before we received the bottle of wine. During this half hour period of time, we noticed the tables on our right and left had not been visited by their server either (but it seemed they already ordered dinner and were drinking wine). I try not to listen to conversations around me, but the tables were close together. Our server came to the table to my right, and apologized because she had forgotten to enter their order, which was taken over 30 minutes ago. While she was trying to get their order again, another server approached the table with their order. Our server stated "I did place the order? Now I'm really confused". Another 5 to 10 minutes later, she was apologizing to the table to my left since it had been such a long wait for their food (again, at least 30-40 minutes after ordering). They received their food a couple minutes later, but left without eating it. I don't know what happened, but I heard the server apologizing to them, and it did not seem sincere at all. After about an hour sitting at the table, we received our dinner, and it was delicious. But you cannot counteract bad service with great food."

Had lunch here yesterday. Service was most excellent. I had a bowl of crawfish étouffée. Nicely spiced and full of crawfish meat that was perfectly cooked. I was afraid that it was not going to be spicy enough because I forgot to tell them I like it pretty hot, but it was spiced just right. Though, I do agree with one reviewer that the tables are just a little too close to each other.

SO outrageously priced and food was not good at all, both my husband and I were really unhappy with spent so much to eat here and wasted our date night here.

Loveee thier food!! I hosted a seminar in their private room. Getting all of the arrangements made were super easy, every email we sent the lady emailed right back! They were even willing to work with you on price. I will admit during the seminar the service could have been a little better. The food took almost an hour to be served- which was okay beause we were visiting but I am sure some did not plan on staying as long as they did. For every day dining I would suggest going during lunch. They have a great lunch menu. However, I personally think they raise their prices too much for the dinner menu.

The experience as a whole was bad right from the start. I thought that the waitress and manager seemed distant. As if they really wanted to be anywhere else. Food seemed to take quite a long time considering we arrived early to a small crowd. I had ordered the special and when it arrived it was so over cooked that I could justify taking another bite. I never send food back, but for this I had to. The manager asked what else I wanted, I said I didn't want any other food items. Seeing as how long it took the first time, I figured I would just share my wife's meal since we had quite a few appetizers already. The managers response to this was "SO, YOUR JUST GOING TO SIT THERE MAD". I think this post speaks for it self. Never have I been spoken to like that. Was i frustrated? YES, I was! I was there with my family on the night of my birthday, I ordered what you referred to as the special, and you brought out a terrible dish severely over cooked.

Hubby and I enjoyed a very nice dinner here last weekend. Walked in without a reservation and got sat right away. Hubby had the gumbo and I had the shrimp/crawfish pasta with mushrooms and bacon. Was amazingly tasty! I enjoyed the whole experience. We'll definitely be back!

Needs leadership by someone experienced. We made bar reservations for Friday night. Bar area had 3 tables yet we waited 45 min for drinks (watered down because of sitting) yet we were 12 feet from the bar! Then we waited 60 min for our appetizer order and were even more disappointed to get all these crumbled chip pieces with our spinach dip. Appeared that our waiter was new- no one had his back. We spotted a manager (she was the owner) and told her our issues and she barely apologized yet made lots of excuses. Not the way to take care of customers.... You don't staff a newbie on a busy Friday night And if customers have issues you check back on them. Didn't help matters that she spent all of her time socializing with two tables and only monitoring them along with the patio. Best times are oyster Rockefeller and bread pudding ... Pudding is the best I've ever had even in LA.

This restaurant is in a charming older building (seems like an old house, perhaps) on The Square in Georgetown. They seat people upstairs and downstairs and, if the weather is pretty, the balcony is a great place to eat and people watch. The food is some of my all-time favorite food. I love Cajun food to begin with, but these people do it very well. Their Seafood Gumbo is a must, even if you just get a cup as an app. Last time I visited, I ordered Rainbow Trout stuffed with shrimp and crawfish tails. It also came with spinach florentine. Delicious. This a great place for a date or to take your family. They often have live music upstairs as well.

Amazing! The food is delicious. We had the Filet with Tarragon Cajun cream sauce coupled with the Malbec wine. You could cut the steak with a fork! Our server was top notch, professional and anticipated our needs with charm!

We ordered the crawfish etoufe and the fried catfish, they were very good. The etoufe was very spicy and very good, the catfish was good too. The service was nice but a little slow.

Gumbo's in Round Rock was one of my favorite restaurants ever and we were sad to see it go. We haven't had the same kind of meal at the French Quarter that replaced it. We were delighted to learn Gumbo's had returned north of us so we decided to check it out. We really liked the location of their restaurant in Georgetown and are fans of this older part of town. We had lunch and found it to be quite tasty but a few of their previous menu items were no longer being served here, like the steak fillet salad. I had the blackened chicken and my wife had the tortilla crusted chicken and the tortilla crusted chicken was our favorite. Mine did come with tasty jalapeno mashed potatoes. Their bread pudding was amazing also. Great to have Gumbos back, we'll be back! Service was good, it got a little a slower near the end as they got busier.

Avoid this poor excuse for an upscale restaurant & their rude, napoleanic-complexed bartender, "jason" on Friday & Saturday nights. Sad thing is, "the owner Denise" condones his behavior. :-(. TSK TSK TSK. Whatever you do...expect a rude, "woe is me-drama queen" reaction from said-bartender, Jason, should you ask for AN IRISH COFFEE. HE "will have to brew a pot of coffee" for you or in my case, MY GUEST, "DOWNSTAIRS"... Now you, coffee-lovers might be thinking "EXCELLENT!!! but Jason HATES this idea. Also NOTE: he wont hesitate to mention to one of his WELL-FED-female coworkers that a patron is a "BITCH" for not acknowledging his efforts (coffee was already-brewed downstairs...so his over-the-top-hissy-fit about brewing coffee was just another drama-audition waisted). Wont be going back!!! WON'T BE GOING BACK UNLESS MY 88 year old Father comes visiting!!!! RUN SOMEWHERE ELSE!!! This is NOT a good choice. It falls so far below the sophistication in service you'll recieve at Eddie V's, Terry's or Fogo de Choa where the service, FLAVORS, & ATMOSPHERE are a complete package & a given!!! Choose any other place to spend the $120+ ticket.

Gumbo's is a great chain but this place did not follow. We went on a weekday for an early lunch. We decided to sit upstatirs BC they have a great patio overlooking the town square. So a a few guys were smoking cigars (preg wife) so we sat inside the bar/ casual area. Downstairs seems to be the more formal area. Server was great and very puctual and detailed the specials and highlighted a few of his favorites. I nooiced a guy by the bar talking loudly on his cell phone, this lasted a good 15 minutes then he preceded to go on and on. He was giving the bartender a hard time and just being rude. Come to find out he is the owner, we will not spend our money in a place like this. Too bad, could have been a great palce

Gumbos is great! Their bread and butter is one of the best things I've ever eaten... That butter! Oh sweet mama. I'd go there for the bread and butter alone, but that would be frowned upon, so on to the other food. Spinach artichoke dip is good, but no need for appetizers (again the bread.) Fried Crawfish tails are delicious. My favorite dish is the blackened catfish over crawfish étouffée. So delicious. I've also had the shrimp po boy and the crawfish po boy. Both great, but shrimp is better. Blackened Shrimp are tasty as well (and I believe I got 10 of them?) The service can be a bit spotty, I suggest sitting upstairs on the patio or in the bar if open. The atmosphere is much more relaxed than the downstairs dining room. Bloody Mary's are a no go, order beer or wine. They have a good Chime Pinot Noir. Also they have good happy hour specials. No beer on draft, but a large bottle selection. Having never been to the Round Rock location before it closed, I can't compare the two, but the Georgetown Gumbos has got it going on and we are excited to have them!

I'm really sad to be writing this review of Gumbo's... We are long time patrons, back in the day when the very first one was on Bratton Lane and everyone who worked at Dell went here for lunch at least once a month. It's gone through different hands, been in different places and the menu has changed a bit here and there, but we've always been fans. We mostly ate and the one downtown and the one in Round Rock and although prices were always a little high, the food and service was always consistent (and good.) I can't say the same for the new location in Georgetown. I've been here five times now, but have only eaten here twice. Well three times, if you count when we came for coffee and dessert. The first time we came here, we had dinner during the holidays. The restaurant was full and the atmosphere downstairs is nice. Some of the tables near the bar are a little close to the walkway for my taste, but it isn't a deal breaker. Our waiter was okay, service was fine and the food came out reasonably hot and we didn't wait an overly long time for anything during the entire meal. But what stuck with me the most was A - the food was just okay. I had a steak and it was fine, but it came with a starch and that was it. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. My mother in law had salmon and she enjoyed her meal. My husband had gumbo and said it was fine. It probably was priced a little more reasonably than the Round Rock location. The most disappointing thing about this meal was how loud it was. There is a bar upstairs with live music (which is fun - more on that later) but the noise carries downstairs into the dining room and for a restaurant serving $20 - $30 entrees, that's unacceptable. We came here another time just for drinks upstairs while the Phil and Bill show was playing. We actually had a great time and I recommend it to anyone. How great that a town that pretty much shuts down at 9:00 pm every day of the week, you can find a fun atmosphere with drinks past 10:00 pm!!! We also were upstairs for drinks another night while friends of ours ate. They said their food was okay - again, heard the word fine. Our waiter was friendly and was kind enough to separate our tabs (when we didn't ask) but she did charge us for our friend's appetizer. But what compelled me to write this review (and the reason for only two stars) is our experience when they held their crawfish boil. It was outside with a live Zydeco band. We weren't interested in the crawfish boil part - $30 per person and I just don't dig it, but we did have a few beers and hung out to listen to the band. It was a cool idea. I hope if they do it again that the step up their game a little bit - maybe a few other food options that aren't $30 and maybe a little more than a few sports tents and folding tables and chairs... After the band finished, we decided to head upstairs and have dinner on their great balcony. We figured it had been a long time since we'd eaten there and maybe the food had improved a little bit or maybe we would just order something different and be more pleasantly surprised. We asked the bartender if we needed to wait to be seated and he told us just to sit anywhere.. There was a waiter outside and he told us someone would be right with us. We weren't in a rush so it wasn't a big deal that no one came right out, but after 20 minutes, I was starting to get a little annoyed. I flagged down a food runner and he brought us water, bread and silverware and told us James would be right over. Another five minutes went by but he did finally show up. I ordered a fish dish with with crawfish (I can't remember the name) and my husband ordered the fried shrimp and we also ordered a bottle of wine. We waited, and this is no lie, almost a full hour before our food arrived. Our waiter came out a few times and said he was sorry and that it should be out any minute. He told us there was a wedding party of 40 in the private dining room and that it had really slammed the kitchen. When our food finally came, and we were at this point expecting this, it was cold. My husband's shrimp was very cold, and it was under cooked. (His fries that he got as a side were hot, but they were thrown all over the plate and many were broken in half. My fish was warm, but the sauce was cold and my side, which was dirty rice, wasn't even lukewarm - it was actually cold. (And really bad.) And portions were small. After all of that, my husband was actually pretty ticked and asked to see the manager. Most of the time, we just endure whatever is going on, but it was a pretty crappy experience from the get go. He shared our frustration with her and she did apologize, blamed it on the wedding and that was the end of it. We would not have let them comp our meal because that wasn't the point of bringing it to her attention, but blaming a large party on the lack of service and long wait is a bunch of bull, and Gumbo's - you know it.

We have dined here three times. We have enjoyed our meals here, but the service has often been slow and sometimes inattentive. We were once seated at a small two-top against the left wall behind the wine rack; an awkward and busy location that detracted from our experience, and probably contributed to our server forgetting we were there. It's apparent the management is trying hard to support the downtown area and create a solid and consistent dining experience on the square, and for that reason we try to patronize this restaurant. It would be great if the management would take the time to walk around and check in with each patron during their meal, rather than only focusing on the guests that they already know. More personal attention would enhance the overall experience and make dining here more memorable.

This was my fifth time in for lunch. I have yet to have a bad meal. This time around I had a cup of crawfish etoufee and the pecan crusted shrimp Caesar. The etoufee was delicious and spicy. Good chunks of veg and lots of crawfish tails. The salad was well dressed (black tie, yuk yuk) and well seasoned. The shrimp came with tails on and up arranged around the plate. The flavors were well balanced. Everything tasted fresh. Service was excellent. I look forward to my next dining experience at Gumbos.

We went for dinner with a group (8 folks) and I have to say the food was EXCELLENT. I had a steak and it was just fantastic. So for sheer quality of the food I would go 5-stars, no question. Service was....ehhh, ok. Just OK. Which detracted from the meal. Water glasses went dry, ordered drinks sat on the bar until we asked for them again, that kind of thing. I thought the menu selection was very limited. I know it's not the Cheesecake Factory but there wasn't a lot of depth, there. Price. Yikes. I'm all about paying for a nice meal but there was a little sticker shock. I'm giving them a 4-star rating which is a little generous, but if you can ignore everything else and enjoy the food then you're likely to enjoy Gumbos.

After stopping in at Gumbo's on a monthly basis, I am basically done visiting them. I mirror Stephanie R's comments on 4/26 and Lara R's. Denise (the owner) should be aware of the really bad service that occurred upstairs. It was so insulting to be charged a 20% gratuity for such crappy service, all blamed on the festival (yet if you looked outside, they were moving food and drinks like no tomorrow). The waiter was terrible. Dan, another bartender, was just short of rude. No, let me rephrase that, downright unfriendly and rude. Drinks arrived for only half the table, the rest of us waited 30 minutes for our drinks. The food servings were CHINTZY. We ordered a dessert and it never came after 30 minutes. The waiter would disappear for long periods of time. We had to go get our own utensils and napkins. One guest got into it with the manager (downstairs) and she didn't care. One of our party asked for a recognition of some sort and the waiter said "I don't think so, I don't think that will be approved." Finally, the music artist is good--but this is not the Backyard. IT IS SO LOUD YOU CAN'T EVEN TALK TO PEOPLE WITHOUT YELLING. To hell with Gumbo's--I'll take my $50 per visit somewhere else and encourage my group to start going somewhere else. I live downtown and make lots of recommendations; I will DEFINITELY tell visitors which restaurant to avoid--and Gumbo's will be it. This had nothing to do with Poppy Fest. This is just what Gumbo's is now and has been for many months. DENISE WAKE UP!

Ok, here we go.... Wifey and I saw this place driving by sometime back and thought it would be an interesting place to enjoy our anniversary dinner as we both love cajun/creole food. WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It became apparent the very moment we walked in and saw the hostess that we should have done an immediate about face and went to Papadeaux's... Let me share why: 1. Hostess looked at us like we were beneath her and stumbled to find our reservation. 2. OVERPRICED!!!!!! portions were puny and food quality was mediocre at best 3. THIS IS NOT CAJUN/CREOLE FOOD!!!!!!!!!!! It is bland, poorly thought out and to top it all off....THEY DID NOT HAVE ANY CAYENNE PEPPER IN THE FOOD AT ALL!!! When we asked for some on the side the "waiter" brought us STEAK/BLACKENING SEASONING and swore to us it was cayenne. FUCKING HELL!!!!!!!! 4. Waiter although very nice, was not trained very well as he could not even fathom how to open a wine bottle or tell us what seafood was in the "gumbo" 5. The gumbo was bland, the roux was burned and tasted like generic, store bought instant cajun powder rather than scratch made. 6. The main course came out on time...COLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Had to send mine back while my wife ate a soggy blackened catfish.(she tends to be more accepting of piss poor than I) My plate came back warmer and with less seafood(shrimp and crawfish pasta) It was passable but NOT CAJUN/CREOLE!!!!! Rather than comp the poorly prepared food we paid full price left minimal tip as server was incompetent, but nice. DO NOT RECOMMEND!!! WILL NOT RETURN!!! NOT AUTHENTIC!!!!! -'Nuff said.

I was dining alone and think I got the last table available in the restaurant on a Thursday night. I was greeted by the owner and seated immediately. The dining room was very cozy with dim lighting and candles and lots of "happy people" sounds. I had a most stressful day and was very much looking forward to a nice meal and a glass of wine. My server, James, was very attentive and recommended a delicious Pinot Noir, even better, it was still happy hour! (Yay!) I was served the most yummy crusty bread with a spicy citrusy butter to munch on with my wine. I started with the Creole Caesar salad, it was so fresh and obviously the dressing was house made. I hadn't eaten all day so I splurged on the Steak St. George, the filet with crab-meat on top. O-M-G is all I can say! The steak was perfectly cooked to medium rare, it was juicy and delicious! I finished with the Whiskey Bay cheesecake. By the time I left, I was completely relaxed and all the stress from the day was forgotten. Georgetown is so fortunate to have such a jewel move into the neighborhood. The meal was relaxed and and easy and my servers recommendations were right on the money! He reminded me that happy hour would be ending, so, of course, I ordered a second glass of wine. The portions were very generous so I got to enjoy the rest of my meal later. Bonus!! I loved it so much that my husband and I went the next night but hung out upstairs in the lounge. There was a band getting ready to play and again it was super-busy! Our drinks were never empty for long and the appetizers were yummy! It's so nice to go out just a few blocks from home and get such world class food, service and atmosphere! I'm hooked!! I can't wait to go back again! _____________________________________________________ I have been back to Gumbo's and had the same excellent food and service. I can see why some of the reviews have some negative comments but you have to give them a bit of a break. From what I can see, the management and the staff care a LOT! I think they have just been "slammed" since the first day they opened. I have been to El monumento twice since they opened around the same time. They are having the same issues due to being super busy- ALL THE TIME. Georgetown was just "HUNGRY" for some good food. (Pun intended) I would much rather go out to a busy restaurant that has something going on than to some other places in town that seem like you are dining in a funeral home or a nursing home. Maybe some of the complainers should just stick to those places. I like a lively place and if I can see that the establishment is working hard to please their customers, I will give them a break. Shoot, just sit down, shut up and enjoy the one your with. Don't put too much stock in the complainers. I have a feeling they are pretty negative people to begin with. I will definitely go back. Gumbo's is my new favorite restaurant in G'Town!

Still the BEST Cajun in the ATX! The best crawfish etouffee I have ever had. Yummy bread and herb/garlic butter. Amazing fish and delectable sauces to top them. Scrumptious sides (my fave is the cabbage!) I tried the stuffed fish the last two times I was there and YUMMY! They also used to have this fish topped with a sweet potato puree that the waitstaff told me is off the menu and I can still get . Yummy fried crawfish. I just love Gumbo's!

I wish I didn't have to write this but if I'm being honest, I do. My adventure with this place goes back to when they were in Round Rock. My wife and I ate there often and thought it was one of the top three places in the Austin area. We NEVER had anything but great dining experiences. The food was prepared to perfection and beautifully plated. It was like a work of art. Then the move to G-town. My family (there were12 of us) ate there for Thanksgiving. It was your choice of turkey & dressing or prime rib. The turkey was dry and cold. The dressing was not eatable. and the prime rib was just not good. Then, my wife, my mother and I ate there a month after that......Everything COLD! The gumbo ( before the move, the best I've ever had including ANY in New Orleans) was a mere shadow of it's once self. Four small shrimp, no blue crab meat, no fish, AND no are almost no roux. I sent an e-mail to the owners. Four months later, I got a reply saying that they couldn't believe the seething remarks that I had made but they would send my a gift in hopes that I would return. After a month and a half,it came. Fast forward to yesterday. There we're five of us including my cousin and his wife from L.A. SAME STORY!! The gumbo was the same. The portions were so small that I was hungry by the time I got home. Everything was under seasoned and lute warm. Guess what guy's!! We've come to the end of the trail AND you're not here.

I am giving one star, that is until I can actually get I here to eat. I have heard some good things about this place, and was really wanting to give this a go. I love cajun food, and since we were downtown we thought we we stop by for a late lunch. As we walk up to the front door, I noticed that they closed at 2pm. On a Saturday! When there is a festival going on! I looked at my watch and it was 2:15, and saw they would not open again until 5pm. This restaurant is seriously missing out on a lot of late-lunch revenue. This place would have been packed if they were open during a festival. Might stop by again, but do not think this place will last long with limited hours.

This is my first time trying Gumbo's. The service was fine, as it wasn't too busy for lunch. There was a a vase with dead flowers with mold growing in their water sitting on our table. The food was extremely bland. I ordered the crawfish pasta dish. I had to add salt to mine and still it needed more seasonings for it to give it some sort of discerning flavor. My friend got a muffaletta sandwich without tomato and it was just a piece of bread with turkey and cheese. I probably won't ever try this place again.

I would not recommend this place to ANYONE. The service was horrible and the food was even worse. It is a disgusting imitation of what they think Cajun food is, especially for the price. I was born and raised in Southeast Texas right on the border of Louisiana so I am very familiar with what good Cajun food is and this is the polar opposite of it. If you want good, well actually great, Cajun food make the drive to South Austin and eat at Evangeline's. You won't be disappointed there.

Perhaps this review seems a bit unfair seeing as though I didn't get a chance to eat here. First of all, my wife and mother said they would like Cajun food on Mother's Day weekend. It was between Pappadeuxs and Gumbos. We decided on Gumbos since we ate at Pappadeuxs a few months back. When we got to the restaurant, there was a street fair going on so we had to park a ways off (not the restaurants fault but it only added to the irritation). When we got there we were told they didn't open until 5:00. Seriously?? It's a Saturday evening! It was about 4:45 so not all was lost until we were told they were booked for the evening and could not seat us unless we wanted appetizers at the bar. Ok...this is Georgetown Texas...not New Orleans. Why the need for reservations? If there's an hour wait on a table than fine but to turn us away on Mother's Day weekend is just wrong. We ended up settling for Mexican food at Casa Ole. So annoyed right now!!

I have been several times, driving way outta my way, because I really liked the Round Rock location. Been a regular for years. Everytime I have dined in GT, I feel like I've been short-changed with the amount of food. The gumbo cup comes out 3/4 full with very little protein in it. The same goes with the plates and the smaller size of shrimp/crawfish. So far, overall, nothing like the old place in Round Rock.

I have to first say that this is one if my favorite places to eat. But tonight I had a horrible experience, first off the bar tender with the pig nose ring got all of our drinks wrong when we were all waiting on our table. Then from one bad experience to another the old guy with the grayish goatee kinda heavy set was the worst waiter I've had in a long time. He started off great, then all of us at the table ordered the "Robert" because I recommended it. When mine came out, it was Medium to well done. It was pretty much well done....so I told him I never do this, but please send this back, I asked for medium rare. He cocked an attitude and brought back a new steak, then quickly ran off, I cut it open and and it's way worse, WELL WELL DONE!!! I told him I would eat it and showed him what his terrible cooks did again, and he shrugged and breathed out deeply as if he didn't care. All I can say is eat down stairs, better service and they are much more polite and if you get this guy you, might as well stand up and leave.

I don't understand all the complaints below. My husband and I have been to Gumbo's 4 or 5 times now and we love it. No, it is NOT kid-friendly - why would anyone think it WOULD be when the entrees are in the $30-$40 range? We have had many of their dishes - seafood, pastas, steaks. I have never been disappointed. The Oysters Rockefeller is one of the best I've had. What's great about Gumbo's is that you can control your own experience. If you want to chill out, have a drink, and be able to keep an eye on the game, you can sit at the bar upstairs. They even had live music up there one evening! If you are looking for something more romantic, quiet, and upscale, you can sit downstairs in the main dining room. Highly recommend this place.

My boyfriend and I decided to go to a nice dinner, and chose Gumbo's. The food here was lower quality than Red Lobster. I ordered the special of the night, crab gumbo, which the waiter stated was "very very delicious" and ended up being worse than something you pour out of a can and heat up in the microwave. It tasted like burnt gravy. After taking two bites my stomach immediately hurt. My boyfriend ordered fried shrimp, which was rubbery and cold. It also gave him terrible diarrhea. The spinach artichoke dip appetizer was like a heated up pile of soggy spinach with cheese on top. The best part of the entire meal was the butter and bread, which I would probably still decline if offered Red Lobster biscuits. Save your money and your appetite and eat somewhere else.

Went to Gumbo's for our 34th Anniversary Dinner - service was great - food was LESS than mediocre. I ordered the Redfish with crabmeat and white wine sauce withBroccoli and mushrooms as the side. It arrived with about one teaspoon of sauce on the fish and crabmeat. The broccoli and mushrooms were a terribly un-appetizing color of gray. Presentation was terrible! Probably will not go back because the time before this, I ordered a fish dish on a bed of creamed spinach. When it came out, there was about a tablespoon of creamed spinach under the fish. I even asked the waiter if he thought that was appropriate and he agreed it was less than acceptable - a huge disappointment!! There are lots of better places to eat in G'town than Gumbo's!!

I really want to like this place & give it 2 stars because the food is good. But the service is horrible. This first time I went, I had a reservation, but waited 45 min to be seated. Last night we sat in the bar hoping for better luck. It took a good 15 min to get our drinks...and we were SITTING IN THE BAR. Our meal took a solid 45 min to arrive and it wasn't what we ordered. It'll be a long time before I give this place a 3rd chance.

I've been here twice now and sat upstairs . I haven't had any issues with service (as some have mentioned) and both times the food was fantastic. The last time I was there I had the chocolate bread pudding for desert and it was ridiculously good! It was the type of good that makes you want to go back the next night so you can order it again! They also had a guy playing the guitar and singing song on request which added to the atmosphere. Can't wait to go again.

I am writing this about 3 weeks after our visit. We went for an anniversary dinner right after they opened, I think on Oct 8 or 9th. We LOVED them in RR and were so happy when they re-opened relatively close to our home. I read all of the reviews here, and while I totally see their points (especially about the crammed in tables), I hope that everyone will remember that there is always about 30+ days after a new place opens (or re-opens as the case may be) that is an adjustment period and to please give it another chance. We have been going to Gumbo's for YEARS, back when it was on Merriltown, when the previous owners owned it and moved it to RR, and then continued going there after the Pages bought it and have loved it. I do agree the tables downstairs are crammed in. If they removed one table in each of the front and back sections, I think it would help tremendously. While our steaks were great, the shrimp cocktail we had as an app was extremely overcooked and the shrimp had no taste. Our waiter was ok, seemed very new to it and nervous....I think there would be some benefit to a lot more training. And, I agree about the hostess....we remember her from RR and more times than not, she isn't friendly. That's an awful first impression. But, overall, I love the food and we will definitely go back a few more times before making a final review. Hopefully over the next few weeks the kinks will be worked out and it will be as it great as it was before. Oh, and while we were not in the upstairs bar area for very long, just long enough to get served a drink, it seems like a comfy area, and I look forward to eating on the patio.

Just had dinner here with the family. Two adults, three kids, total was around $100. For that much money I expected much better. Calimari appetizer was pretty small for $10! Waitress seemed pretty stingy with the bread and I had to ask 2-3 times for more bread. Also, never filled our cups with water. Wait time was quite long (at least 30 minutes). If you're going to eat here, make sure you get bread and appetizer to hold you over, esp. if you have hungry kids! My steak was ordered medium rare, it came out medium. Usually they wait until you cut into it, but I had to notify them the next time they came around and they immediately took it back and re-cooked it...brought it back rare! I prefer more rare then medium so I just decided to eat it. Food was good, but not excellent. Overall experience with stingy bread service, slow wait time and just ok food resulted in a 2 star rating. Disappointed, was really hoping they would do better. No discount for the long wait and mistake on the steak either.

I received an email with a coupon for buy one entree get one half off. I got a filet, which was pretty good. The sides were tasty but cold. When we paid I showed the server the email with the coupon, which was at the bottom of a lengthy email. I was told they could not honor the coupon because it needed to be printed out. No where on the email did it indicate to print out the coupon. I asked to speak to a manager, who stated she would make sure to put on future emails to print out the coupon (the most recent email I received did not say anything about printing the email). She then told us she could give me a free dessert but not honor the coupon. After a filet, I had no room for dessert. At that point I began to complain and after raising my voice was given the discount. I live 2 blocks away from this place (which I mentioned to the manager initially), and have eaten there multiple times even though the meals have been good to subpar. After that experience I have no intent on going back! The customer is always right. I shouldn't have to raise my voice to make management see my point of view!

Georgetown has needed a restaurant like Gumbo's for a long time. The atmosphere is relaxing and well planned. Though the table for 2 are a little small, the dining area is not loud. The staff is attentive and friendly. They know their wines and have good recommendations. The food is excellent and portions are just right. Our only criticism was the Christmas music which after hearing it all day at shopping centers, stores, car radio, etc., we were looking forward to nice dinner music or appropriate music for Gumbo's.
