You know I have been to Roosters probably 2-3 dozen times. When come to place like this you're coming for comfort food and cheap beer. Well I have good news for you. They have both! I absolutely love the Seared Veggie PoBoy and if you're brave try the hell burger sliders. I had half of one a few months ago and my face almost melted off. It's not a high end gourmet restaurant but I Love Roosters.

Have you ever waited so long that you could go to a YouTube video/movie and finish it completely and come back. That is what I am dealing with right now. Still waiting. Been here since 1:32pm, that is when I last texted my friend. Love the place tho, been here three other times. Yes I'm typing this as I wait, but hey, I'm out of conversation to talk about and thought this could be fun. Edit: 2:27pm, I got the food. I made it three stars, because the food is amazing. Okay, imma eat.

Awesome food in a fun environment. What more can you ask for? Oh yeah, and they're inexpensive to boot. So you walk in, get seated and start browsing their menus all while soaking in the interesting decorations and the wood smoke smell. The menu is a little limited but whatever they have, they do well. The sliced brisket sandwich was good and the brisket burger was even better. Next time we go we'll be trying some of their pulled pork. They do get busy pretty fast and the parking is a little limited in the downtown area so if possible, get there early. Also a heads up, when you leave you're going to smell like you've been sitting by a camp fire all night if you sit indoors.

Denton is rapidly growing with lots of fine unique restaurants and Rooster's Roadhouse is a very fun dive spot. The restaurant is always busy and is a great place to get cheap eats and drinks. They have do it yourself little buckets of salted peanuts to kill the waiting time until your food arrives. A great way to save the $ on appetizers....lol. Great place to take anyone for a beer and very good cheap eats. Im a big fan of their Redneck Sushi and the burgers. You cannot go wrong with anything on the menu. The service always fast & friendly. Great drinks and food, well worth the visit. I highly recommend the Dallas and Ft.Worth folks to make the drive to this place and you won't be disappointed.

Fun décor - right when you walk in there's an upside down xmas tree and lawn mower Awesome prices per their slogan "red neck, white trash, blue collar" Delicious food and lovely service: Hubs had the double meat bbq plate with pulled pork and brisket and side of corn salad. I got the Southern Comfort salad - they separated the fried bacon as requested. Wouldn't mind going back and definitely recommend anyone passing thru to stop by!

This is my 2nd trip here and the first time it was a 4* meal. This time the brisket was fatty and the chips were cold. The pulled pork/brisket queso was outstanding. The brisket sandwich was disappointing.

I can't leave a bad review. Although some days it's hit or miss with service. Food is consistent, and they are known for their burgers and bloody Mary's far and wide. Great vibe, bustling atmosphere and above average food. I recommend going any time other than peak hours. Also... get to know your server, and when you come back ask for them by request, this will greatly enhance your experience.

The food here isn't worth an hour long wait. I think the problem is how they handle tickets. I got one of the recommended items, the philly, and it was good but not what i expected. I wont be back. Get organized.

  • Michael D.

Where do I begin? The food was great. The beer was cold. The menu is unique. I had the brisket burger which is described as having chipoltle mayo, cheddar cheese, BBQ sauce and smokehouse pico. This thing was awesome. It was a burger patty WITH sliced brisket. It had all the stuff listed above and was served on a buttery toasted bun. This meal was on point. The only thing I'm upset about is that I don't live in Denton, and my meal is finished. I'll be back for sure.

The Rooster tails are delicious...I had smoked turkey..was ok..kinda dry but not bad...my gf had the brisket...while it was tender..had no flavor whatsoever....took quite awhile to get our meal but it is a holiday..so...

Fajitas are bomb. Cool atmosphere and nice outside seating. Three thumbs up.

$2 PBR all the time. BBQ and burgers. Looks like everything on the menu is under $10. SOOO good. Had the sliced beef BBQ and on my third PBR so had to have brisket queso and chips to munch on.

It was my first time here and I had the "Damn Good Fish Sandwich." While it was damn big, damn hot, and damn hard to eat, I would rate the flavor and quality of the fish and home-style tartar sauce as above average, but maybe not "damn good." I would have rather received a smaller portion of a damn good sandwich for the $10 they charged me rather than what I recieved; a huge portion of an okay sandwich. I chose to have the sandwich paired with fries which were mediocre but not bad. I'm a pescetarian so my only other option here is the Veggie Po' Boy. Based on the reviews I look forward to trying that next time we stop by. I also had a serving of their banana pudding jelly jar and it was delicious and a perfect size (not too big, not too small.). But it's really hard to mess up banana pudding, especially when it's topped with whipped cream. My only real bone to pick with this place is why advertise yourselves as "redneck, white trash, and blue collar", basically a southern dive joint, and then NOT SERVE SWEET TEA? Even the regular iced tea was old and stale. I'd like to think perhaps the huge lunch rush we were in was partially to blame, but I won't be ordering tea again to find out.

Umm, YUM!? This was our second (and better) visit to Roosters and it was delicious! We all split the brisket burger, smoked ribeye cheesesteak and rooster tails! All so good! The brisket was excellent, burger high quality and we couldn't get enough. At first, I wasn't sure what I thought of the sweet pickle relish situation, but it really grew on me! The cheesesteak was caramelized, gooey mushroomy yumminess! And rooster tails are a BETTER way to eat onion rings in my opinion. Can't wait to go back! (minus one star for our waitress forgetting our drinks and never offering refills...but she was super sweet! )

    (4)
  • Monica W.

Pretty Damn good. Pulled pork nachos were full of flavor and can I say their bbq sauce was Smokey sweet and hot. My favorite kind. The brisket burger was super tasty. No lack of flavor here. We will definitely be back for more. The service was good too even though their computers went down and they were super busy. Denton has it going on.

Pretty good place to eat BBQ or Burgers if you are in the mood... Stay away from the Hell Fire sauce!

  • Bob C.

It doesn't get any better than this. The absolute best in Denton. Pulled pork nachos, red neck sushi and brisket burgers. You can't go wrong! Cold beer awesome atmosphere and great wait staff. My favorite place to go! God bless Texas!!!

  • Naomi W.

I always get the simple cheeseburger because it's crispy and juice and delicious. One of the best burgers I've ever had. The damn good fish sandwich is the perfect blend of fried and moist. I love their crispy homemade chips. BBQ is always tasty and perfect. Literally no complaints from the menu so far. Their drinks specials are amazing, and each day of the week you can get something wonderful.

  • Natalie T.

We will definitely be back! Great atmosphere and the food was awesome. I had the brisket burger and my husband had the cuban sandwich. Both dang good! Substitute the chips for the fried okra or fried pickles! Yum!

  • Eric W.

5 stars just for the smoked tenderloin cheese-steak sandwich. Disappointed no wings (I'll bet they would be great with the Hell sauce). Service a bit slow at times, but it was a very full house. Decent burgers. Note: This was from a draft started 6/23/2013 that I'm finally getting around to posting via the computer, since it couldn't be done via the app. Has that changed? I need to check.

10 minutes in a booth without anyone asking if we'd like to order or if we'd been helped. Not expecting a Lot of greatness here.

  • Gary G.

I had the ghost chili slider...like eating a mouth full of needles. Actually, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, I'd do it again. We also had the grilled cheese cheeseburgers. I'd say that I have a much better shot at a stroke now, but MAN was it worth it.

  • Brad D.

Really great food. Service also great. Even though the place was crowded our waitress was right there whenever we needed something, without hovering. I had the pit sandwich and my Wife had the roadhouse pulled pork. We loved them both. Prices very reasonable. Atmosphere was pretty loud, but the food was worth it. We will be back whenever we are in the area again.

WHERE'S THE BEEF? ! I was not impressed the first time I went several years ago but I recently gave them another shot. These burgers are a joke. They may taste good but they are SMALL. There is barely any meat in there and a ton of toppings. Friend of mine got a side of banana pudding that was also a joke. It was a small cup with a little bit of banana pudding and topped with a whole lot of whip cream (they aren't fooling anyone). I left hungry after eating a burger and fries and wont be back. I will add if you notice the pictures of the "big" burgers its mainly alot of bread or double patties. Just look at the thin patties, RG has a huge burger if thats what you want (ok flavor). LSA has great fulfilling burgers with lots of flavor and meat.

There's so many reviews for this place that I'll keep this short. This is a must visit place in Denton. Great atmosphere and even better food. If you're over 21, the Breakfast of Champions shot is a must. It's fantastic.

This is one of my favorite "I am going off my diet places" in Denton. I have been here a few times and it is time for a review! My rating is going to be mainly about the Sliders, as I am stuck on them and have not ordered anything else in my 4 visits! They are delicious! They come with grilled onions, cheese, and jalapenos on them and accompanied by a side of house made chips. My warning to you is this...if you do not like spicy, have them leave off the jalapenos because even if you take them off when the plate comes to you, they will still leave so much heat on the Sliders that your lips will burn! My wife got the battered Tilapia sandwich and really enjoyed it as well, and she is not a big fish eater. She said the batter it was prepared in was really delicious. Also, leave room for a mason jar dessert, they are a great finish to a great meal. The flavors change, so check out each day's selections. The other thing I have noticed about this place on all four of my visits is the friendly staff of "down-home" folks. Regardless of who has waited on us, we have always had great service from a very friendly person. As the name may imply, this is not a dress up kind of place, so come as you are and enjoy some great food.

2nd time here and it won't be the last. Whenever you are in or around Denton TX, stop here, that's an order. Great food, creative foodie place, but not a taataa creative foodie place. Awesome TX atmosphere with wonderful service. I had the famous Cowboy Sushi. The shredded BBQ was perfect. I would have liked my bbq sauce a little less sweet, but it was a cool dish and the pickled red onions made it great. Then the piece d'resistance came out. Yes, I spoked me some French. The double grilled cheese double burger. I will let you know, I love grilled cheese sandwiches....a lot. I mean I really love grilled cheese sandwiches. This one was awesome and it had a perfect hamburger stuffed between the two perfect grilled cheeses. Remember in Field of Dreams when the young ball player asked Kevin Costner "Are we in heaven?" Well I found TX dive heaven #justsayin did I mention I love grilled cheese sandwiches?

  • Meredith W.

Great ambience for a laid back and casual meal. Lots to see and look out and the bucket of peanuts makes up for any wait. $3 cockeyed lemonade was well worth it. We started with the bacon and cheese fries and the half order was perfect so we could save room for the burgers and sandwiches. The ribeye cheese steak sandwiches was full of provolone and mushroom and dripping with deliciousness. The brisket burger didn't disappoint, but really the cheesesteak was the star of the meal. Didn't save room for dessert, but it sure looked good. Maybe next time, we will definitely be back.

  • Jack B.

I wasn't expecting much out of this place because the guy who took us there is kind of notorious for getting excited about trendy places with mediocre food. But surprisingly the food was actually really good here. A friend and I each got a sandwich and traded halves, so I got to try both the Pulled Pork and Pit Sandwich. The latter having brisket, pulled pork and smoked sausage. Both were delicious. I had fries, which were also good, but I hear the homemade potato chips are really great too. Everybody in our party of 5 was happy with their meal and I would definitely go back.

  • Helen W.

Other Yelp reviews of this place were right, this place is awesome. I had the classic burger and my parents had the stake chess sandwich and everything were great. We also got the Rooster tails, which are just deep fry onions, so good and try the dipping sauce. The frozen drinks are good as well as the margaritas. Servers are nice and friendly. I suggest you sit outside, very loud inside with the music and talking but mostly the music. I would totally go again. Best part are the prices, very reasonable.

We came here wanting to try the hell burger because it's suppose to be hotter than hell. Let me start off by saying I can eat spicy food, but this was just unpleasant to eat. The first bite wasn't so bad, then after the second bite, my eyes were teary and face was super red. I didn't finish the last 2 bites because it wasn't good and too spicy. However, I also ordered the brisket burger and it was amazing. Best burger ever. There's beef and briskest on top with diced pickles. I can't explain it but try it. It's delicious. I would come back for their other burgers but won't put someone else through the hell burger unless they want to do it for fun. It took 20ish for my mouth to stop burning.

Food is just ok. I have been here twice, once on my own and then brought back by a friend, tried several different menu items and not impressed really by the service or the quality.

I have only been here once but I really enjoyed myself! VERY interestingly decorated for sure! haha! I got the sloppy joe and it was delicious and staff was friendly. I look forward to taking my family here next time they are in town to visit.

Pulled pork nachos, Chez Bubba burger, King brisket burger are favorites but you really can't go wrong here. Lots of good eats. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it.

Roosters is a must-stop whenever you are near Denton, TX. The entire place is fun, eclectic, and just the right pace for us. The food is reasonably priced and everything we had was delicious. We had to start with the rooster tails, as recommended by many other Yelpers. My first thought was "Oh boy, yet another Bloomin' Onion knockoff". Not so. Admittedly, I was VERY wrong. The onion was fresh, delicious, and perfectly fried. The sauce was amazing. The wife had the chopped brisket sandwich, and I really enjoyed the PIT sandwich. If you are a meat lover like me, it had a little bit of everything. Delish! I wish we had some more time to sit there, have a few beers, and really enjoy the atmosphere. Just an overall great place to hang out. We cant wait to go back to try more stuff!

  • Renae S.

We have been going here for a few years now and I had never written a review. Everything is good, my daughter always gets one of the huge hamburgers, my husband always gets BBQ of sorts and I always get the Chopped Salad with chicken. Love it all!!

The burger and the Rueben sandwich we had this afternoon were both tasty but not warm. Very good service.

  • Sherri V.

Love this place!! It had been a little while since I had been there and it was even better than I remember. They had wonderfully delicious drinks, amazingly reasonable prices, the food tasted fresh and delicious and so wonderfully seasoned, loved every bit of it, and I will make it more of a regular stop to enjoy!!!

  • David A.

I have found my new favorite barbeque!! I read the reviews on Yelp and decided to give it a try. We arrived at about 7:30 to a packed house. The Texas summer and the huge crowd made it a bit warm inside but I think it actually added to the ambiance. The decor is old slightly run down bar. The repurposed garden tools, upside down Christmas tree, Barbie collection and old beer signs are very charming. It is one of the only places I have been where within on the wall is not frowned upon! The best feature though is the food. I ordered the 2 meat, sliced beef and sausage, plate with French fries and fried pickles. My girlfriend had a pulled pork sandwich with chips, real homemade chips. The beef was so tender I barely needed a knife. Both the sausage and beef were seasoned perfectly, the spicy pickles were amazing and the fried pickles and French fries were nice and crispy. My girlfriend's sandwich was huge with the most juicy pork I have ever tasted and the homemade chips were amazing. I am a fan of Rooster's for life!!!

    (5)
  • Courtney S.

The food is amazing but don't get sat in the booth by the door. during a dinner rush people waiting to be sat felt free to stand directly next to our table while we tried to eat our dinner awkwardly next to strangers backsides. I've also gone in an hour and a half til close and received luke warm (at best) queso. While I love their food, the staff could do more to insure every guest has a great experience no matter what time of day/how busy it is. It has definitely stopped us from frequenting as much as we used to.

Bbq nachos with brisket was amazing! Also amazing drink specials on Saturday's. Had two different servers and both were good.

Rooster's Roadhouse is an eclectic establishment that serves mainly barbecue foods. They are located near the square and within walking distance to many nightlife locations, they are also one of the only barbecue places that is so close to the square. After several trips over the past year and a half to roosters, I am pleased to say, that I am always very satisfied with my visits. I have ordered a few different items off the menu but one of my very favorites is the redneck sushi. While I am now a vegetarian I have found that there are still items I can order and enjoy from roosters. They also have a full bar and offer drink specials throughout the week. And I have found that during odd hours you can go and sit on the back patio with children and you will not be disturbed or disturb others.

  • Kannyn M.

Happen to be driving to Ada OK, and we needed to grab a bite...thanks to Yelp we found Roosters. The Brisket burger is fantastic..so tasty and a good size. We ate outside and the service was great. If I ever pass thru Denton again its a sure stop.

  • Twila H.

The grilled veggie poboy is the best thing on the menu. Thick slices of zucchini, mushrooms, squash, tomatoes topped with cheese. My husband loves the king brisket sandwich. It's brisket done to ways and a burger patty between. Massive. Margaritas are super cheap and yummy. Banana pudding is amazing.

Delicious! Try the Double Wide. You won't regret it for a minute. Big enough to share with a hungry husband or two. LOL And try the mini dessert of the day. Another non-regret. :)

What a great find in my college town! This is the only place you can go if you are craving quick good burgers, barbeque, comfort food, and drinks in Denton. My friends and I went here on Saturday and it was packed. Parking is sometimes easy or even a pain in the ass for a (sort of) downtown location on weekends. There is street parking right out front and on all the surrounding streets. The servers were friendly and offered suggestions for our meal. I ordered Seared Veggie Po'boy because I personally don't eat red meat. I was delicious anyway. Veggies were so juicy and got flavors. One of my friends had their hell burger. It was spicy and juicy. Of course he loved it! One of them had brisket burger, which was the best he has ever had. Smooth and tasty brisket burgerrr! We ordered some drinks. They were cheap and good. Price and food portion here are appropriable. It is not really that nice atmosphere you know it is just a burger place in college town. However, it is kinda laid back just to hang around. Good for hanging out with friends. Why not give this place a shot right? :)

  • Lauren M.

I have come here a few times since my glowing review a few years ago. It is definitely not the same. This most recent visit prompted this update. The pulled pork nachos were not good and I swear the portion had been cut in half! It was also missing some toppings. The burger was alright, but significantly smaller. The last time I came I left with the whole other half of my burger and vowed to share the next time if we shared a large appetizer. I scarfed down too many nachos, it wasn't that it was an overly massive burger. This time my friend and I opted to share and it was definitely meant for one and I'm pretty sure it was the same price. Disappointing! The pork and burger meats taste pre-cooked honestly. I would give them one star, but the college kids who serve here earned a +1 for always being nice and serving good drinks.

Yes. Such a great burger. The buns are great and our family of 4 ate for under $40. If you haven't tried it, GO :-)

Last night was my first visit to Rooster's after wanting to try it out for a while, I would for sure go back. The food was good but our server was not very attentive and didn't seem to be in the greatest mood. It was a Saturday night so I understand it was busy and I'm sure she had other tables to tend to but I had to go ask a table next to us if we could borrow some of their paper towels because we didn't have any at our table. At a BBQ joint you for sure need napkins. Also, it was extremely hot inside. Like wipe dripping sweat from your face hot... But I was impressed with the food so I will give Rooster's another shot!

  • Madeline M.

This place is super close to being good. We ordered chips, salsa, and queso. The chips were far too thick which was really disappointing cause the dips were good. Main entrees were very good but the service was mediocre. Just needs to be more polished overall.

Fabulous home made potato chips. Great brisket and pulled pork. Weekend double wells only $3 and delicious. Great service and very fun atmosphere.

  • Lisa P.

Started out with fried pickles which are thin, crispy and delish. I had the Smoked Garlic Jalepeno Bacon Cheddar burger which was outstanding. Hubby enjoyed the Smoked Ribeye Cheesesteak sandwich. The house made chips are as amazing as everyone claims. Can't wait to eat here again!!

    (5)
  • Kevin A.

They have the best burgers in town here. I had the Big Ass Grilled Cheese Double Burger and it hit the spot. This restaurant is modestly priced and provides excellent food. Service is okay, but the food overcomes that.

    (5)
  • Justin H.

There are already so many reviews I will be brief. Good portions, good food, excellent service and $2 PBR and Lone star all day, every day. Ambiance is that of the modern "clean" dive bar. License plates and graffiti on the wall with TVs and free peanuts (encouraged to throw the shells on the floor of course.) I recommend the fried jalapeños: not too hot but with enough heat and a great flavor.

Love this place by far my favorite restaurant in Denton. Pulled pork nachos are delicious. For the thirsty folks cockeyed lemonade swill quench your thirst!

Good Food, Good Prices, I'll be back!!! A little suspect upon first appearance, But the reviews were Right!! The Brisket Burger is Awesome and a must-try! After our reservation was cancelled at another place my family of 20+ went there as a last resort after my cousin's graduation and all were indeed happy with the outcome. The food was awesome and the prices were even better. I will definitely be making a trip back to Denton just to eat there!

Had lunch here while visiting Denton. Went here based on other Yelp reviews, and they were spot on. I highly recommend the pulled pork sandwich, as it was very reasonable, tasty and just a bit of a kick. My wife had the burger, and my son the brisket sandwich. All were good quality and tasty. The homemade potato chips should be selected over the french fries, as they were not greasy, crisp and flavorful. When I get back to Denton, I will definitely try Rooster's again.

  • Christie D.

Good food. Quick service! Friendly staff. Rooster tails were really good...much better than a blooming onion in my opinion. Chips and queso was yummy! Nice thick homemade chips. Semi busy for 2 pm but got right in. Located downtown Denton. Easy to find. Was in town for a college visit to UNT.

  • Caleb W.

Rooster's Roadhouse is a great gem in the heart of Denton. This is a great spot if you're wanting to grab a quick beer or have some extremely unhealthy bar-b-que/grill style food. I have never had anything here I don't enjoy. I normally get the sloppy joe meal (less than $6). If you want an appetizer the fried pickles are great as well. Definitely a good place to check out. Parents should note that it this is a bar & grill so if you wouldn't normally take your kids to a place like that you might prefer Fuzzy's next door.

I just put the best nachos I have ever had in 35 years on this planet in my mouth. Thank you roosters. Thank you.

Good food. I had the brisket burger. It was alright, although it had too much barbecue sauce. My boyfriend had the chicken strips and they actually looked tastier than my burger. We went at a busy hour and I appreciated that the hostess was very nice and caring. I could tell she was trying hard to seat us quickly. Besides my burger being alright, our food took a while to get to us; about 30 min, which is frustrating when you're starving. Overall, I'd recommend this place, maybe you'll have better luck choosing an entree and enjoying it. I chose the brisket burger because the waitress recommended that to me.

  • Krista W.

I came here for the first time a few days ago and, within 10 minutes of being there, my husband and I decided we would definitely be returning. That was based purely off of service and drink specials. We were seated quickly even though the place was pretty busy at dinner time. $6.50 domestic pitchers on Monday! And they have peanuts for you to enjoy while you wait (you'll have to pick them up yourself by the door). Doesn't get much better than that. And then the food came... I had the Roadhouse Ruben which features beef brisket in place of corned beef and their signature Cowboy Slaw in place of sauerkraut. Not your typical Rueben, but SO delicious! Cowboy slaw is a must try. Hubby had the Jalapeño Cheeseburger which he really liked and said it had some spice to it, but nothing crazy hot. Both came with their homemade chips, which are really great! And they even crisped up perfectly 2 days later when I had the leftovers. No, this is not a place to go if you're looking for something healthy. I can't believe some reviewers gave a lower rating because of that. Their sign outside and on their menus is "BBQ-Beer-Burgers", so don't expect anything under 500 calories here. Unless you just want to nibble on the free peanuts :)

This place has been popping up on Yelp at me for the 3 years I've been on Yelp and I've been wanting to try it the whole time. We finally got there last weekend as we dined around Denton kicking off my week of birthday celebration and it really IS everything that everyone on here says it is. We enjoyed it so much we're going back this weekend.

Cool place to grab a drink and dinner and it's not far off the square. Wait can sometimes be a while but wait staff is attentive and very nice once you sit down. Cool atmosphere and you can never get bored trying to find something new on the wall or ceiling. My favorite is the upside-down Christmas tree. Brisket queso is an AMAZING appetizer. Get it while you wait for your food.

This place is true Texas spirit in the middle of Denton. I had their Bad Ass burger and cheese fries. When you hear "badass" you haven't seen it until you try the burger: a grilled cheese sandwich topped with a patty topped off with another grilled cheese sandwich. The flavors are all over the place, juicy and savory with just the right amount of cheese. It's so huge I had to carry half of it home, but wow, is it worth it. At night the place is a bit crowded, but it's no wonder why. The night life is fantastic. At the back of the restaurant is a wall where guests take sharpies and write all over it. Next time I go back (and I WILL go back) I'm bringing a sharpie.

I went in after the lunch hours so there was no wait and the staff was nice and helpful. I had the Brisket Burger and it was great! I'm from out of town and only here two days but I'm thinking of going again tomorrow. The only reason why I'm not giving it the full five stars is because the young lady helping me charged my card for twice amount of what my order was. It could be an honest mistake but not something I appreciated. Edit: went in the best day and had the Pit. Gonna say I liked the Brisket Burger better. Staff was fine and didn't have the payment problem as before. I'll give it the full five stars.

Came highly recommended (by Yelpers and a friend), left super disappointed. It should have been an awesome burger and experience but the food and service dragged me down. A friend sent me a message: you have to try the hell burger. We asked our server - she was distracted by the frat bros wearing tank tops (yes, sort-of-almost-adults in tank tops), even sitting at their booth for a while as we waited for our water - and she said "you don't want the hell burger." Not a great way to establish rapport with your patrons. We DID want the hell burger. We ended up NOT ordering the hell burger. Even if it's gimmicky it may have made the experience more enjoyable. We ended up splitting bacon jalapeno cheese fries and the garlic jalapeno burger. Neither were spicy, neither were special...just standard, kinda cold, bland bar food. Given that we had just come from a killer biergarten down the street we decided to keep our party rolling with another brew and our options were extremely limited. Made the mistake of ordering a Lone Star. Have you ever had Lone Star? My bad. What's not my bad is our server taking a few minutes to flirt and hug each of her bros goodbye while we were anxiously awaiting the check. Top that off with the atmosphere - loud, crowded, and uncomfortably cramped - and you have a passable dining venue.

I'm a fan but not a HUGE fan of this place, I'm very particular about my barbeque I like what I like and this place to me isn't as great as what I'd like. lol. My main dish here is a basic burger with cheese and the fried okra, which is ( to me) the BEST thing I have found here. It always tastes fresh and to someone who is half cajun that is a VERY hard thing to find sooo up north from the Bayou.

Great barbecue--especially the chopped beef. I love the "sweet-hots" that come on the side, a mix of jalapeños and sweet pickles that blend so well! My husband tends to order the "Big-A** Cheeseburger" every time we go (which can't be too often due to desiring long, healthy lives) which is basically two grilled cheese sandwiches with a giant hamburger patty in between. Good food and a nice laid-back vibe keep us coming back. I try to be good and order a salad, but even that usually leaves me unbuttoning my jeans afterwards. Sometimes you just gotta live a little though.... :)

I love this place! The King Brisket Burger is hands down the best barbecue burger in Denton. Looking for something different, ask if they have the fried Mac and Cheese, it is surprisingly good.

Redneck Sushi, Amazing Pulled Pork Nachos, $1.50 beers??? Umm yes please! I've only been here once and I can't wait to go back. If you're wanting a nice fancy place then this isn't the place for you, but if you're looking for something laid back, fun & delicious food then Roosters is the place!

This place is great and disgusting and horrible all at the same time. This might be the best and last meal that you will ever have. Because you will probably die from all of the grease, salt and cholesterol that you are going to ingest. I got the fried pickles, onion tails (fried, battered onions), the queso & salsa & chips, the redneck sushi platter (brisket, cheese, hot peppers, caramelized onions, wrapped in a tortilla with horesradish dipping sauce) as well as a fried fish (tilapia) sandwich. i thought i was in heaven but almost ended up going there (i hope) because i thought i was going to drop dead after the fatboy feast. but this place made me decide to go on a diet because i never want to feel like that again.

The food my boyfriend and I ordered was greasier than the fried fish at Long John's. We had to sit on the back porch since inside was full, where three customers showed up with three dogs. I thought you couldn't have dogs at a food establishment, but maybe that's just inside? One of the dogs was allowed on the table by its owner.... sick. Do they sanitize these tables after poo paws? The homemade chips were grease-soaked and the fried pickles weren't crispy as advertised, but were soggy, greasy, and flavorless. My boyfriend ordered the Hell burger and said it tasted like drinking Tabasco. A scoop of ice cream as a side to the Hell burger is $9.00. Yes, $9.00. The burger only cost $3.00! Large portions for the money, but the food is so greasy I was sick later after eating. Over-hyped restaurant with flavorless food. Service was fantastic, even though it was busy. When you sit at a table outside be sure to bring a sanitizing wipe since poo paws are allowed.

I like BBQ, but I love to eat at Rooster's. Every time I go it seems to get better and more crowded. Start out with the Redneck Sushi, freaking amazing! I tell everyone I know that is looking for a new place in Denton to try.

I've been here a few times, and always had a nice time. It is really casual- seems like a popular after-a-day-in-the-office kind of place. The staff is super nice and attentive, they have different specials everyday, no icky- haunted smoking section (if you must kill yourself, there is a lovely back patio that allows smoking), the food is really affordable, and yummy. I loved the chopped salad, and the cheese burger. Most of all, I loved the build-your-own-bloody-mary bar, but I don't think that is set up everyday.

This place is always one of the options when my wife and I go out to eat in Denton. My favorite thing about Rooster's is the unique menu. I have always ordered BBQ or cheeseburger and they never disappoint! My wife loves the salads! Nice patio with picnic tables.

The Pit Sandwich might be the greatest sandwich ever made. The only thing that I would change is serve the sandwiches with good french fries.

Looking for a killer home-made hamburger? This is it! We enjoyed a burger and some tots with a cold beer on the patio. I would like to experiment more with the menu next visit as I saw several other non burger items that peaked my interest. I have a local import car repair shop around the corner and love the convenience and navigability of this area for food.

Great dining experience in Austin. Prices were very fair (pitcher of Lone Star for $4!). I was impressed that they had a vegetarian option (veggies on a roll with provolone). Server was friendly and attentive and food came out fast. We had an appetizer of fried jalapeños, I had the veggie sandwich, and the hubby had chopped brisket combo with cowboy slaw. Food was tasty and generous portions. Rowdy looking place but great atmosphere.

This place is pretty good. I enjoy the texas sliders a lot. The service can be slow and it is not an ideal place to go on a lunch break. I went with a group from work there once and we ended up having to take our food to go because it took so long.

  • Wesley P.

Took my entire family and my nephew did the slider cheese fry challenge he didn't eat it all but we had a great time. Love my pulled pork sandwich with the tater tots loaded. The food here is Great. We all enjoyed all our food and had a great time. My drink never went empty.

Delicious. Just delicious. My husband and I tried this place on recommendation from a friend. We ordered the rooster tails because we love onion rings and these just sounded good. They were awesome and the sauce it comes with is great. My husband got the fish sandwich (which is odd because he never tries fish sandwiches or tacos or anything similar). It came highly recommended by the first waiter we had there and now it is all my husband gets. It's his favorite. My go-to meal here is the chopped salad. It is so good and fills me up every time. It comes with a lot for the price. We are hoping to try more things on the menu in our next visits but to be honest our favorites are just too good that it may be a while.

I came upon this place while visiting from California. My sister had recommended and OMG I'm so glad she did. The food is delicious. Service is awesome. I had the pulled pork Cuban and it was finger licking good. My mom had the damn good fish sandwich and she said it was awesome as well. Other family members in my group tried the bacon ranch burger, the big A, chopped brisket, and chicken tenders and everything everybody tried was delicious. Will definitely visit again if I have the chance. Too bad no restaurants like this back in California.

Moved to Denton in January, my first day here I went to a sports bar for a UFC fight, and it immediately worried me that southern hospitality was a myth. My second day here, I went to Rooster's, and Alex (I think was his name. Male bartender) completely restored my faith in the people of Texas. Still to this day one of the nicest people I've met down here. Really welcoming and just felt like I've known the guy forever. Oh yeah, the food. Excellent prices, top-notch food and just such a creative menu. I've eaten here twice and taken out once. My first 2 visits, I did the 2 meat plate. All of the meats are smoky and delicious. The sides are amazing. My second visit, I brought my parents when they came down to help me move in. We did the redneck sushi and a couple meat plates. Once again, simply delicious. I ordered the "Big ass grilled cheeseburger" for take out, and man. That thing is awesome. I certainly wouldn't recommend a steady diet of them, that's for sure. They are an amazing treat to yourself though. Especially if you're on a hefty gym regimen like myself, and really like to get the most out of your cheat days. A+++

I have to say the food was really good and our waiter was helpful and fast. Awesome job. Based on those two, I would give 5 stars. We waited a little longer for the food, but considering it was packed, I would say the wait was not bad nor more than I would expect. No complaints there. The issue we had was before being seated. There was no room to stand and wait, we found our selves constantly moving out of people's way no matter where we stood. The other issue we had was that most tables were for parties of 4. There were some that were a bit bigger, but not nearly enough making our wait much longer. We ended up squeezing on a table fit for 4 near the bar area. The last thing that sealed the lower rating was the lady bartender. I walked up to the bar to better see the drink specials and she thought I was going to sit on the first come first served seats at the bar when she told me "oh no these are being saved". I told her my intention was to read the specials sitting in the bar not sit. She responded with okay and then continued to ignore me as she gave all her attention to her buddy's sitting in the now taken 2 seats. I just walked away. She did glance over as it was obvious she caught herself, but it didn't make any difference. She was really the only person lacking service and courtesy as everyone else was kind and friendly. I would likely not go again unless there were fewer of us and although the food and waiter were great, there are plenty of other places to try with better seating options and great food too.

food - 4 stars atmosphere - 4 stars service - 2 stars we arrived on a saturday night ready to party it up. ok not really. we were hungry and wanted bbq/burgers. i came across this place while browsing through the man vs food website. there's a challenge here for 18 sliders with an order of bacon cheese fries in 30mins. whoa! no thanks. i want to live. we were greeted by a waiter and seated. it was pretty busy as we sat at our booth for about 10 minutes before a different waiter came by for our drink order. nearly 10 minutes after that, our drinks arrived (tea and rum/coke) and our waiter disappeared before i could utter...we're ready to order. i probably watched him walk by three times before he stopped by to take our order. another 15 minutes goes by and a waitress brings our food to the table. she hurries off before i could ask for ketchup. by this time, i'm ready to throw a fit, but my husband reminds me its was busy. key word...was. there were a couple of empty tables and the outdoor seating was cleared out. our waiter stops by and let's me know he'll refill my drink. i ask for ketchup and he comes by refill my drink. but no ketchup. we're about half way done with our meal now. five minutes later he stops by again, i ask again...ketchup. i ordered the bbq sandwich with brisket/pulled pork/sausage. the bbq sauce was a little sweet, just how i like it. however, the sausage was so peppery, it was all that i could taste afterwards. my husband ordered the big a** burger - beef pattys surrounded by grilled cheese sandwiches. he thought it was flavorful and delicious. our side order of fries were crispy, but nothing special. our waiter told us they were out of the chips, but still up charged us for the fries.

Anyone who asks me where to go for good BBQ in denton gets sent here. I have been several times and not once have I been disappointed. Burgers are flat grilled and different and that's what makes them good. The brisket queso with the sweet relish pico on top is at the top of my list every time. Its a fight to not order the pulled pork nachos every time I go I like them so much. The pit sandwich has all the BBQ items on it and is just incredible. Their coleslaw is pickled instead of mayo. The red velvet cake comes in a small sealed mason jar and is so moist it's crazy! The only reason I couldnt give 5 stars is cause the sloppy Joe, although VERY good, is too small :-). (hoping they read this and increase the size even if it means increasing the 4.99 price) I'm not real sure if the big guy that works in the kitchen is the manager or the owner but he is incredibly nice and always asks us how the food is if he's not crazy busy. Go to Roosters and I promise you will not want to give it less than 4 stars! I'll go to 5 if they take my advice on the sloppy Joe and start serving fries instead of home made chips(which are really good) at no extra cost!!!

My husband and I ate at Rooster's for the first time last week. I had the pulled pork sandwich and my husband had a double cheeseburger. The pork was a little too sweet for my taste. The potato chips that came with it were pretty darn tasty. And they do not skimp on the chips, they give you a whole bunch of them with the sandwiches and burgers. We also had the rooster tails/onion peels as an appetizer. It was a huge portion, too. Definitely enough for three or four people to share. Oh, and the iced tea is great at Rooster's, too.

Get the Big A** Burger with the burger between two grilled cheese sandwiches and the redneck sushi. Both ROCK!

  • Tommy H.

We've eaten there several times and always had an excellent meal. I particularly enjoy "The Pit" sandwich, but also recommend the Chez Bubba Double Burger, and the Cheesesteak, Their homemade chips are always well-done and crispy. They serve desserts in half-pint mason jars which are often delicious. Tonight, we had the blackberry cobbler with ice cream. The crust was so thick on the cobbler in the tiny jar that trying to pierce the crust was causing blackberry juice to overflow. The cobbler itself was warm and gooey with big berries that were complemented by the ice cream. In fact, once the jar overflowed, I turned the ice cream over to get it coated in blackberry goodness. There are several enticing items on the menu that I haven't braved yet and I seem to discover more each visit. Today, I noticed the "Big A** Grilled Cheese Double Burger" which replaces the traditional hamburger bun with a pair of grilled cheese sandwiches. The waitress said she couldn't see how customers could get it in their mouth. That's a little intimidating considering the Pit and the Chez Bubba are more than a mouthful. The restaurant itself has what appears to be a fairly full-service bar and there are buckets of peanuts around if you need to take the edge off. Rooster's is wedged in between Dan's Silver Leaf and Fuzzy's Tacos, so parking might be a bit dodgy, but there is a large free public parking lot one block west. I've always been happy with the waitstaff and they can often recommend some great items. One memorable tip was that the desserts can be taken "to go" for a dollar more to cover the cost of the glass jar.

Stop by here whenever I visit my old college town and bring anybody with me that hasn't been there before. Daily specials always rock!! Haven't had anything I really didn't like there...... Even the sloppy joes are Delicious. Make sure you put a fried egg on any burger/sandwich you get. They do it up right. Not including having actual homemade banana pudding and not the fake stuff 95% of all other places serve.

  • Dacia B.

So here's my experience. I went in with a friend and we were seated in a booth where the floor was covered in peanut shells. Not a good first impression. I look at the menu start looking for ribs because I love ribs and I figured since its a bbq place they must have ribs.. and they don't have any. So, I get the sausage. Didn't like it. Asked my waitress if I could exchange it for the brisket burger and she kindly did so with no hesitation. The chef even brought it out to me and apologized for the sausage.. I felt like an ass but I'm not going to sit there and eat something I don't really care for. The brisket burger was amazing! The chips that came along with it wern't all that great but that's just a side who cares. Get the brisket burger. I'm sure all their other stuff is good too but don't get the sausage. Its bland.

These guys don't do anything that sucks. Moreover, they don't do anything that isn't fucking awesome. My personal fave is the PIT sandwich, slaw and a half-order of the pulled pork nachos. Wash it down with their frozen lemonbooze.

Been here once before but had to leave this review because this place is truly incredible. Came on a packed Sunday night and was a little disappointed because there was a wait and my wife and I were starving! The hostess offered us a seat on the mostly covered back patio that we took. I was slightly skeptical because patio service is iffy most of the time, but are server rittney. Was amazing, everything was quick, delicious and I can not wait until the next time I get a chance to eat here. Thanks roosters!!!

  • Chad C.

Roosters is one of our go to burger places. My boy loves the Big A burger. It's a double meat cheeseburger with grilled cheese sandwiches for buns. They have a patio for nice weather and the drink specials you'd expect in a college town. The Bloody Mary bar on Sat/Sun is a good thing. It can be hard to eat healthy here, but that's never an issue for me and mine. Keep it up, roosters.

Good college town place that has a fun atmosphere. University of North Texas is near by but it's not too crowded with students. It is kinda downtown but parking is pretty good. I had BBQ brisket and also tried the Philly sandwich both were excellent and of great quality. Everything on the menu was very cheap for the quality. Would like to try more things on the menu next time I'm in town.

The lowdown-- you'd expect a place like this to have slammin' BBQ. Long story short? They don't. What *is* good? The burgers, big ole' salads, and drink specials. Atmosphere is chill, service is good, price is alright.

This is my go-to restaurant when I'm in Denton. The brisket burger is absolutely fantastic- one of the best burgers I've ever had. Very flavorful and juicy and great balance between burger and bbq. Always have to get the fried pickles when I come in too and they are the best. Trust me, it is the best- great portions as well. I've also had the Pit sandwich, which is delicious too. This sandwich is LOADED with meat and is the perfect bbq sandwich with the Texas toast. Really fun atmosphere and it's always super busy here for a reason- food is the best!

Ate there for a business meeting this last week for the first time. Ate a BBQ sandwich and was curious about the pico they put on it. Not much of a relish/pico guy but the flavors were amazing with a little hot from the jalapeno and sweet. Definitely eat it again, and will be eating there again when I'm back in the downtown area.

Younger crowd obviously since it's by a college hahahha... made me feel old but I'll get over it. The hostesses looked and sounded like she was 12 yrs old... but she was friendly. Our waitress forgot about us... the service was slow... The food was worth the wait... they redeemed it's self... I will not go back on a weekend though.

Always a great experience every time I come here. The staff is friendly and the food is on point, and the best part: they are consistent. • Andrew H.

A christmas tree on the ceiling. Yep, that's a pretty original thing to see when you walk into a bar/ bbq joint. I had been here once before a year or so ago, so with the exception to the varied and hodge podge decor(, I didn't have much of a memory of the place. But it was rejogged whent hey made an appearance on the Food Network for their Hell Slider challenge. Today would not be the day I try that. But I plan too. Peanut shells on the floor, Masters Golf and Rangers Baseball on TV and a beautiful Sunday out. I can with a buddy to get out of the sun for a short spell, that and we were over at Oak St having a beer or two (root beer for him). Rooster's is known for some pretty good barbecue and that is what both of us had. I got a sliced brisket sandwich with fries and he got a sliced sausage one. Very tasty food, very good sauce and the fries were nice and extra crispy like I asked for them. I enjoyed a Shiner Red Hare to go with it and it was a pretty good meal..... then it was back to the bar. Also good service! Support Denton Businesses.

Roosters roadhouse is one of those unique places that is fun to go to when you are tired of the regular chain burger joints. It has a great redneck bar and grill motif with fun decorations. I am super jealous of all the tap handles they have made into chandeliers and inverted Christmas tree ornaments. The burgers are average when it comes to the meat but they get very creative with the rest of the burger. I had the double burger made with grilled cheese sandwiches instead of buns. It was very satisfying. My wife had the smoked ribeye cheesesteak. I highly recommend that, it was tender, flavorful, well smoked, and so good. The bean and brisket queso with smokehouse poco was really good as well. Getting a big chunk of brisket and some beans and BBQ sauce with the queso is a unique flavor I have not had before. We had the chocolate chip pie mason jar dessert. It was perfect size for one if you still have room or to share if you just want a quick bite of something sweet to polish off a good meal. The whipped cream was not overly sweet and balanced the desert nicely. I can't wait to go back and try more of the BBQ. What we had with the queso was tasty and i am going to try the pit sandwich next time. It is a sampler of sorts of their bbq selection on a bun. If you are in to spicy foods, the hell sauce is a little drop of heaven if you know what I mean. It's heat with purpose and flavor to back it up. The only complaint I have is that a place that themed itself as a redneck joint does not have sweet tea. Come on now. Overall, this place has become one of my new favorites. Cold beer, good BBQ, creative menu, fun atmosphere, what else do you need? No need to dress up fancy at all, just go and enjoy some good food and cold booze.

My favorite place to eat in denton! Great service. Food prices, drink prices, and atmosphere is always pleasant. Only thing I'd say is the lack of craft beer choices, but hey I love a cold coors light too!

  • Matt B.

Great Food! It is a hold in the wall type of place... but love their food. We always get a burger or the redneck sushi. Two of our favs! If you are in Denton it is defiantly worth trying! P.S... good bloody mary bar!

    (4)
  • Aaron W.

This is less a review of Rooster's Roadhouse and more of an experience making it a part of my life and regular dietary model. I have not had a single thing here that has not been downright delicious. It helps that it is walking distance from my house, yet that is probably why I can attribute the 20 lbs I've gained since frequenting it this past year (hence the 4-star review.) I know it's a personal issue to maintain healthy weight and food intake, but damn if I don't eat here 3 times a week and have just a little too much at one sitting (ok, way too much), which I just know is how they engineered it! That's how they getcha! It also helps/hurts that everyone I know loves to place as well, making it all but impossible to take a hiatus in deference to a salad diet or other such binge-stopping health holiday. Rooster's offers, by far, the most diverse and adventurous menu in Denton. They obviously take cues from food trends and fusion-y TV hosts and I have to say, as irritating as those things are to watch on TV they are very welcome in my mouth and stomach. There are items that mix Southern and Eastern BBQ, Tex-Mex and homestyle cooking such as the brisket and black bean queso (which is a meal, not an appetizer.) There are things such as "Red Neck Sushi" which sound ridiculously cheeky and something you might read on a menu in a white-bread, too-quirky-to-last-a-month type place, yet are just RIGHT. BBQ brisket, sweet-hot pickles and cheese wrapped in a flour tortilla, with red onion marmalade and horseradish...? I would have to say no to anyone offering me that description, but I say yes to Roosters every time. The second biggest problem with Rooster's, besides my expanded waistline, which I refuse to take responsibility for, is deciding what to eat. The fact that the human stomach can only expand so much at one time; the fact that the menu items each cost money and the fact that the brain can only handle so much stimulation from the mouth and nose at once all contribute to the dilemma one faces when the time comes to place an order. Kids have it easy though. My 4-year old order the grilled cheese every time. They also have a two-slider meal that looks really good. Too bad I'm not 12. If there is anything negative to say it's that most entrees come with homemade chips, which are great, and I just don't think subbing french fries should cost an extra $2, especially when they are not special. By the looks of things, there is way more potato being used for the as-served mountain of free chips than the modest amount of $2 fries. As for the waitstaff, it would take an army of hydras to keep me away from the place, but instead there is a team of adorable and friendly servers to assist in your heart attack mission. Godspeed. Of special note are these items: Brisket burger - their delicious burger patty topped with a couple pieces of sliced brisket and their version of pico de gallo (which I call pickle de gallo and don't know why they don't call it that, but if they start to, I want at least a free meal.) It is the #1 burger in town, hands down. Green Tomato Bacon Double Cheeseburger - sweet, salty, crunchy, saucy, filling. Clear about 4 hours of rest time if you choose this one. Red Neck Sushi - a real sinus cleanser, maybe not for sensitive/whiny children Pulled Pork Cuban - best damn sandwich (hold the pickles) Brisket and black bean queso - a masterpiece of flavor, texture and densely satisfying. My only request would be for the tortilla chips to be thinner, smaller and less greasy.

Not that great in terms of food, but fun enough place to hang out near the square.

Rarely I give out 5 stars, and this place deserves it. Based on it's interior appearance, you wouldn't think this place was more than a hole in the wall with eccentric items mounted everywhere. There was an upside down Christmas Tree. A chandelier that was made primarily with beer arm taps, a wall adorned with different trays and colorful lights nested everywhere. Our waiter was very informative and answered all of our questions on the spot. Sometimes you get people that haven't really ate or tried things at the place they work, but our guy knew it all. The menu is basic. It's mainly just hamburgers and BBQ with their own twist done to them. The ones with a black star are customer favorites, so it makes it easy if you're a newcomer. I ordered the Brisket Burger with homemade chips. The waiter was kind enough to warn me if I wanted the pico topped or put on the side, just because some customer's don't like it. While I was waiting for our food, I had a nice cold Shinerbock beer. The one thing I would like to focus is their perfect music playlist. Some bands that were playing were Postal Service, Coldplay, Red Hot Chili Peppers and a wide range of great music. You would think it would just be Country music, as they call themselves Redneck, White trash, and Blue collared, but nope, they play amazing music. There wasn't a single track that I didn't like. Our food came out and from appearance wise it wasn't too spectacular to look at. What made up for it was the flavor and how perfectly cooked the burger was. It was cooked medium, and the brisket was absolutely delicious. Every sauce added to it complimented it perfectly. I decided to try the pico with it and it was another flavor explosion in my mouth. The homemade potato chips were spot on perfect. Some places attempt and they either come out over done and under done. These were like if you bought them from the store, but clearly are cut from fresh potatoes. After polishing off the meal, I still felt the need to eat more. I asked our waiter if they had any desert and he said they make them in these little jars baked with anything you wanted from velvet cake to brownies. I opted for the brownie with ice cream topped. I normally don't eat many deserts, but I felt I needed to take advantage of this amazing food experience I am having. The desert jar was pretty hot and topped with what tasted like to me blue bell ice vanilla ice cream. The combination of the hot brownie and cold melting ice cream was nirvana to my taste buds. If someone had robbed me a gun point while I was eating this, I would give no f*cks to the situation because of how good the desert was. The food is incredibly affordable and the best flavorful food I've had in Texas. If you're driving by off the highway, make a stop here. The food is worth it, plus the atmosphere is fun and inviting.

I tried the 2 meat plate with sliced brisket and turkey with fried okra. The turkey was good, moist and flavorful. The okra was hot and crispy. The brisket however was not good. It was dry, flavorless and thin slices. I will not be returning after this first try. There are too many better barbecue choices available.

Was here for my sisters graduation. Happy that we were hungry in Denton cause we got to try this place out. The service 5/5 Food 5/5 Clean 5/5 Must try - Pulled pork nachos (amazing) and the Hell Sliders - you have to sign a waiver and yes it is no joke.

The brisket burger was delicious and perfectly portioned for lunch. Only reason I don't give them 5 is because the Shiner boch was definitely off. Possibly just a dirty beer line.

This is our go to place for a great burger and pulled pork Cuban sandwich. We love the service and the food is always great. Took my dad who's a very picky eater and he loved their Cuban sandwich. Great cheap eats at it's best!

Everything is so delicious here! A must order for hubbie and me: Red Neck Sushi: the sauce is superb! Pulled Pork Nachos: big serving, plentiful meat, and a delicious mess to start dinner! Service is also awesome, attentive but not intrusive. Their breakfast shot is also something worth trying, and a very fun invention. Will definitely be back, many times!

Finally tried this place the other day after passing by to go to Fuzzy's and I have to say it was great. I got the chopped bbq sandwich- it was a really great value, you get the sandwich and homemade chips for roughly $6, which isn't bad. Service was good, the place was clean, and the atmosphere was fun- if you drink I'd imagine it would be a good place to stop and get a beer and a hamburger. Our waitress was also particularly nice, plus if you're bored waiting for the rest of your table to finish eating, you can always look up and find all the stuff that they have hanging upside down (like lawn mowers and Christmas tress). Judging by the other plates at my table, the burger or bbq baskets (that have fries) seemed to be a better value than the bbq platters.

It was a mixed experience. We walked in the door and there was a small wait... Not unexpected. We went over to the bar and everyone was extremely friendly: bar patrons, manager, and bartender. Everything was going well so far. We sat down and ordered a pile of food. The infamous hell burger was nothing spectacular. Now granted I do pour habanero sauce on eggs and layer crushed red on pasta and pizza... But still. The rest of the food was "ok" but I have to admit the bun was unusable on the standard burgers as it was soaked when it arrived. The quality of the burger itself and its sides was solid though. I was less than impressed with the table service after having a very positive experience at the front of the house at the bar. She seemed like she wanted to be attentive but just wasn't. Disappointing. The kicker was when during the middle of the meal I told her we needed a take out order as well.. Then had to remind her 3 times at the end, and it seems we just waited for them to prepare as if we hadn't told them. There are more and more quality burger places these days, so maybe my expectations were too high.... But I was less than impressed.

Nice long wait on a Friday! Of course...it's an awesome joint. Visiting town for a few weeks so had to stop in here. The pulled pork nachos are the....are the what??? The booooomb!!! Dang, tasty!!! Hell burger and the Big A** grilled cheese double burger for the main attraction... Ahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!! Not saying anything else about the Hell Burger. OK, it a mini burger w/ghost pepper sauce and jalapinos. The Big A** burger is nice. Very big, flavorful, price is right on. A delicious dinner overall. Wait.... I need some water!!!! A must try if stopping in Denton !

We got some good late because it was one of the only places open. I can say that I would certainly try it again. The menu was full of comfort food but also had some interesting twists like the southern comfort salad. We got the brisket burger as well and enjoyed that very much. We also got the cheese fries with bacon and jalapenos and those were just ok, granted I got takeout and fries don't keep well for travelling so I will give Roosters 4 stars and another chance!

  • Adrianne B.

Checked the bacon cheese fries off our rooster's bucket list. My boyfriend and I both agreed we'd eat the paper that lined the basket they came in, they were that yummy. And, as always, service was fantastic!

can i say that rooster's has the best burgers in denton, then? i haven't sampled a variety of the menu, because i would rather stick to the burgers and my impending triple bypass. rooster's boasts excellent, erratically shaped patties with some intense combinations of toppings that elevate their burgers beyond the bacon-cheeseburger status quo. my particular favorite, the green tomato bacon burger (nomenclature may not be entirely accurate as i spend more time drooling over the burger than remember its name) is a masterpiece of thick-cut bacon, pickled green tomatoes, and some sort of delicious cheese (worst food reviewer ever). there's something about their pickling that really balances burgers (the smokehouse pico is especially good). if my boyfriend had to choose between a life without me or a life without the chez bubba double burger, he would be waving goodbye to me with egg yolk dripping down his chin in a heartbeat. between the perfectly cooked egg, the truffle mayo, the sauteed mushrooms and provolone, there exists an earthy, hearty, and all around delicious monstrosity that will demand return visits in elastic pants. having said that, i really don't care about the sides, desserts, or anything else rooster's has to offer. i won't even complain about the slow service. just fill my mouth full of burgers, ok?

Rooster's is a whole-in-the-wall place located off the downtown square. The food is great! The Big A Burger and the Brisket Burger are awesome! While you wait for your food to arrive, you can help yourself to a bucket of peanuts. They also have a good kids menu, which is a must for our picky little eaters.

    (4)
  • S J.

I really like this place. Its an easy, relaxing place to grab a quick, affordable, good hearty burger (and other stuff). Hey, free peanuts while you wait.... OK ! .... The Chez' Bubba Burger is OUT OF THIS WORLD... don't get the regular fries that come with it, sub in the Bacon Cheese fries, or the Blue Cheese fries... Oh My Lord... they are awesome. I also like their Double Wide salad and the Southern Comfort (Chicken Fried Bacon makes my mouth water). I recommend Roosters ! ! !

I enjoy the turkey turkey sandwich on toast with lettuce, onion, and dijon. Not crazy about the bell peppers on it. Definitely try the jelly jar desserts...if they have the chocolate chip pie, don't miss it. If i'm in the mood for it, the brisket bean queso is really good, but sometimes, it just doesn't appeal.

  • Kristin F.

My favorite thing here is the pulled pork barbeque basket with fried okra and texas toast. The barbeque sauce is great, kinda sweet and tangy. Their desserts come in small jam jars, which are great if you're full and want to take some bread pudding home for later. Not a lot of indoor seating, but if you don't mind sitting outside there's plenty of space on the front and back porches. The servers have always been nice and helpful when I've eaten there.

  • Jeff B.

I had the barbecue and my friend had the chili con carne. This is primarily a hangout for the after school crowd, the unemployed, or people who otherwise have nothing much to do during the day. It is primarily a bar that serves food as an after thought. The brisket was inedible because it was so dry and the sauce was terrible- but I give them two stars because my friend's chili was decent. I would go back to try other items on the menu but we were not ordering drinks that day and the waitstaff seemed primarily interested in pushing beers on the regulars and were indifferent to our table. Not rude, just perfunctory and they never came to check on us to see if our orders turned out alright.

When I'm back home I always have to make a stop in at Rooster's. During the Football Season when I was in school, I would eat at Rooster's at least once a week, and then again on Saturday. Everything is great, the burgers are some of the best around, and the BBQ is on par or better than anything else in the area. This truly is one of the only restaurants that I will gladly order a salad as meal and be satisfied.

Love it! Fun for the whole family. Brisket sandwich, Basic cheeseburger, homeade chips, the little jelly jar desserts. And new and sometimes unusual specials popping up out of nowhere. It's all good people. Very relaxed, laid-back atmosphere. Highly recommend it.

I went with my wife and UNT Sophmore for a late lunch on Sunday. I was very impressed with the Bubba Burger. It rates right up there with the best burgers in DFW. The homemade chips were outstanding. My wife had the Southern Comfort salad and could not finish it. It was a meal. The only short coming was the Cheese Fries. Why is it that no one can do Cheese Fries like Eskomo Joe's in Stillwater? Rooster's has thin fries with not much cheese and chunks of bacon. Ok, but could be so much better. Overall, we will go back when we are in the mood for a great buger. I will be looking to check out the brisket on my next trip.

I was told to come here for really good, greasy Texas food and I got exactly that. Reading through some of the reviews, some people say the service wasn't great but I thought we were handled great. I got the cockeyed lemonade (their signature drink) and was pretty disappointed but for $3 it didn't deter me from a good meal. We split an appetizer of rooster tails which were so delicious. The best fried onion appetizer I've ever had. We split the big a** double cheese burger which is 2 grilled sandwiches with 2 burger patties inside. It was beyond delicious and of course greasy. I definitely recommend. They were also great about sharing a portion. Some restaurants think they are being cheated when you ask to split but at rooster's we were given 2 plates and we each got huge portions of their thinly cut potato chips (yum). The portions are definitely big so sharing is a great option. I recommend this place all the time now and have been back 1 time already since my first visit.

Good, laid back place to grab a beer and some good burgers n chips. Burgers are very tasty and greasy, but a bit on the smaller side. Don't miss their made-in-store potato chips!

I've loved going to Rooster's since shortly after it opened: they have great sandwiches and a VERY filling and very tasty smoked turkey salad, plus homemade desserts, and the bizarre-sounding but good "Redneck Sushi" (No, it's NOT canned tuna in a turnip-greens-roll...) My favorite sandwich, and the only thing I ordered for the first dozen or so visits, is their "Loose Meat Po'boy with Debris*" which is a very good attempt at making a genuine New Orleans-style po'boy - except for fhe bread, of course, and where are you going to get the right french bread in Dentoona Texas? They have a good selection of beers, and regularly have beer specials, so drinking there can be inexpensive too. Now for the bad news: Rooster's has apparently been "discovered" to the extent that the kitchen can't quite keep up with orders in any except the very slowest periods! On my last several visits, including today for lunch, the service has been excruciatingly slow; today it took 45 minutes to get a simple hamburger!! I'll no doubt go back, but it won't be for lunch during the week, nor any other time when I'm in any kind of hurry - or even if I'm in desperate need of food - the wait would kill me. * For those who don't know what "debris" is, it's the crumbled bits of meat you get when slicing up roast beef, and usually includes the gravy or meat juices the roast was cooked in. See "Mothers" in New Orleans for the original sandwich served this way.

We love this place for burgers and fries nights...I usually eat past the point of sanity when we go here, fair warning, lol!! They have the spiral cut fries like you get at festivals (super crispy yumminess) only they call them chips. The cheesesteak sandwich is tasty as are their desserts. They come in these sweet little mason jars and taste like your grandma's in the kitchen.

Visited Roosters Roadhouse for lunch today with a couple of friends with the sole purpose of trying the Hell Sliders Challenge. Im not one for crying over my food so I went mainly to get a good laugh at my friends as the wept from the Ghost pepper sauce the sliders are covered in. It was a great atmosphere in my opinion and the food was fantastic as well. I ordered the Brisket Burger as it was identified on the menu as one of Rooster's favorites. As a BBQ connoisseur of sorts I was very interested in seeing how this contraption would come together and was pleasantly surprised at the flavor of this burger. It was one of the best burgers I have had in a while. After devouring my burger, I watched my friends partake in a Hell Slider and decided to give one a shot as well. It is by far the Hottest thing I have ever tasted in my life. It took a good 30 minutes before the heat dissipated and a couple of hours before the heat sitting in my gut went away. All in all, it was a great lunch at a great restaurant and would definitely recommend.

One of my favorites in Denton! Amazing food, i love the blue cheese fries but i ask for their potato chips instead- YUM! They have good drink specials, $1 pints on Wednesday and a fun barstaff. I love the patio out back, even when its super hot! Im not even a big bbq fan but everything Ive had here has been spot on! I also love that they serve fresh jalapenos with the cheese fries!

I have been here once, and was not that impressed. My boyfriend and I walked in and no one was there to greet us. We sat in a booth and our waitress came up. She seemed like she was in a bad mood and asked us what we wanted to drink. I asked her what their drink specials were and she had no idea. She then asked us what we wanted to eat, and being that it was our first time, told her so and said we would need a few minutes. She stomped away and came back with our drinks and said "What do you want to eat?" We barely had time to look at the menu, and were feeling very rushed and unwelcome. We told her once again that it was our first time and that we would need a few more minutes. She then gave us a little bit longer, so then we ordered, fearing that she would just ignore us if we said we didn't know yet. The food was good, nothing that really stood out from the rest. I want to try this place out again, but with all the choices, I don't want to waste my time or money here based on the service. We have both worked in the restaurant industry, and could not imagine giving the service to someone that our waitress gave to us.

I went on a Saturday night, which given the location means busy. The wait staff was kind, quick, and helpful despite the crowd. The atmosphere fits the menu's theme of "back yard bar b q" just fine. The important part (the food), was average. Their "rooster tails" (onion rings) were rather tasty and didn't fall apart when eating. Other than that their food taste like food. Not bad, but not special.

Brisket Burger is fantastic. Start off with the fried pickles and wash it all down with a Shiner Bock.

Great food here. My favorite has to be the King Brisket Burger. A little bit of me dies inside from the guilt, but it's so good! It's a little loud inside, but that's just the nature of a good restaurant.

A good burger place with a divey atmosphere and great prices. My partner and I shared fried pickles. I had the brisket burger and he had the Big A** Grilled Cheese Double burger. Both were good and decidedly better than other burgers we had had from local places. Brisket tasted fresh and the barbecue sauce they use is delicious. The beef is okay, not fantastic, but better than many other local places. Chips were mediocre and fries were nothing to write home about. The fried pickles are simply okay. I was thinking about trying the nachos or queso (because everyone raves about them), but I didn't want to face brisket overload. It was a busy Friday night, but we were seated after about 10 minutes. Our server was prompt and kind, attentive without being overbearing. Atmosphere is like a dive bar, but a little classier than a real dive bar. The restaurant as a heavy red-state theme, which isn't my personal taste, but suits a place like this fine, so I won't complain. For what it's worth, the couple sitting a table away from us had a bad experience. We weren't sure what happened, but my partner and I did notice the manager come out and apologize profusely and offer them some compensation. Customer service seems to be a priority here, so that's nice.

First time visit for lunch today and had the Brisket Burger after reading about it on Yelp. Excellent burger, the brisket was lean and tender and the Roadhouse pico was a great included topping. If you are in town for business, I would highly recommend it.

Despite the service being pretty slow the night we were there (they had a large wedding party dining there), I have no complaints! Food was great, atmosphere was cheerful and the odds and ends all around (like an upside Christmas tree hanging from the ceiling) made for a great game of I Spy with the kiddos. Was exactly the kind of place we look for when traveling.

We went yesterday evening (Thursday) at an off-peak hour. The service was okay, but not great. I got the King Brisket Burger. It was delicious, but way too large for me. My husband got the Big A** Burger and loved it. We also tried the hell burger. I am usually the one that can tolerate hot stuff, and he is usually the one that has an issue. I took a couple bites but he finished it off. The heat intensifies after you eat it, so he was in pain later. I wish the fries were homemade instead of frozen. I'll likely go with the Rooster Tails if we come back. I thought the price was a little high. Although they do have draft beer for $2, PBR and Lone Star, which is great for a college town. The atmosphere is great. It's an old converted warehouse and has a lot of charm. Parking is impossible close to the building, but there is free public parking on the other side of the apartments.

  • Brad D.

Have to give this place 5 stars. It's a hole in the wall type place, but a great atmosphere and good food. It's also nice to see people other than college students in there. Families included! Can't wait to go back for another greasy food Sunday! Try the pulled pork Cuban, it's awesome!

Went there after reading reviews on here. I tried the Pit sandwich and it's pretty good in my opinion. I ordered togo so I didnt have the feeling: sitting, talking and drinking with friends. It's like a small bar. Lots of beers.

My favorite place to eat in Denton, hands down. I've loved everything I've ever ordered off of their menu: the sloppy joe, the brisket, trailer trash salad, BBQ nachos. It's all amazing. I especially love their little mason jar desserts, but my absolute favorite part of eating at Rooster's is substituting chips for fried pickles when ordering a sandwich for a dollar or two more. Every restaurant should offer fried pickles as a side, but then I guess Rooster's wouldn't be so special. . . .Just kidding. I'm salivating for their sloppy joe right now.

  • Natalie R.

Their Southern Comfort salad has chicken fried bacon on it. Have I died and gone to heaven?! Rooster's is a go-to restaurant if you're hungry and need a good ol' dose of BBQ or a down home greasy burger. They've got great daily drink specials with a tasty Bloody Mary bar on the weekends... and like Stephanie K said, the PBRs are cheaper than soda. Perfect. I've tried quite a few things on the menu, but have been quite stuck on the appetizer menu lately. I normally end up with the cheeseburger sliders with grilled jalapenos and onions on delectable little rolls and sub the chips for a side salad. A full meal for $6! My guy gets the pulled pork nachos and adds those same grilled jalapenos and onions and could probably eat off that alone for a week. They're ridiculous in the best of ways! If you're feeling extra saucy, you can even sub the chips for fries. Prepare to upgrade your definition of loaded fries! My only word of warning: don't try to fit this in on a strict 1 hour work lunch break. Won't happen. Service is pretty slow (but always still friendly) and there can be a wait at the busy times, but that's how you know it's good!

I have to say that this place is not I will return to. The service was slow, the restaurant is extremely loud and very claustrophobic. I was with a party of 4 and we all ordered different burgers, but I wasn't impressed with any of them. The homemade chips were delicious, but the burgers lacked in flavor. Sure, there was a pile of assorted toppings on each burger, but the meat itself was nothing memorable. I know there is a pretty heavy following for this place, but it was completely unremarkable to my group.

  • Andy L.

I had the Brisket Burger, its normal not really have any taste in the BBQ sauce. My wife had the smoked ribeye cheesecake sandwich she said it is juicy and very good. The Rooster tails too oily to eat. Full up my stomach really fast. Brisket burger is small.

  • Linn P.

Yum! Neat little place. Very chill. The burgers were pretty good. We had the Big A** burger. Don't get this if you're on a diet! It's a burger inside of 2 grilled cheese sandwiches?? At least that's what it looked like. I had the Pit burger. Which all the bbq meat inside was very good. I wasn't big on the pico stuff though. Bbq sauce was good. I was too scared to try the Hell burger. No thanks! I don't want to lose my taste buds. Omg!!! The potato chips were sooooo delish!!! We devoured it fast and wish we had all gotten that as our sides. But the fried pickles were good too. Just not as good. ;)

Rooster's was exactly what we were looking for after a full morning of Christmas shopping. Denton seems to have the full spectrum of chain restaurants but we wanted something with local flavor. We checked with a friend to lives in Argyle and she said their Denton favorite was Roosters. Mary had the pulled pork nachos while I had the brisket burger with chips. The food and service were both excellent and lunch for two was less than 25 bucks including a generous tip. This is the kind of joint we could put into our regular rotation!

Burger Rating: 9.1 Service: 10 Cleanliness: 9 Value: 7 We were headed to the recycled record store up on Denton Square and decided to expand our best burger search. This crowded roadhouse was just the ticket on a hot Saturday afternoon Cold beer, tasty, juicy cheeseburgers and good fries. That combo of burger, cheese, bacon, and jalapenos just rocks! For an appetizer we had more healthy goodness; something call Rooster Tails (like an exploded Bloomin' Onion.) Those put a smile on our face. The place was packed, filled with friendly people looking to escape the heat and get a little loud. My kind of place. I would definitely go to Rooster's on Industrial St. -------------------------- I'm working my way through the best burger joints in DFW. Amazing food and atmosphere! Last time we went, there was a baseball game on, so it took a while to be seated, but that was expected. Once we got a table, we were right where we could see the TV and had a great time. The waiter seemed to not know much about the menu, but I think he was new. Our food was excellent! I had the fish sandwich with tater tots and my husband had a burger with mushrooms and a fried egg. We paid for my aunt and mom as well, and the price still wasn't bad. Definitely returning!

If the 4th of July had a child and that child happened to be a sandwich, the Pit Sandwich at roosters would be it. Brisket, pulled pork, and smoked sausage with perfect pico and sauce on Texas toast. I came on a Sunday and had the bloody marry bar which is a great deal.

Service is great, great prices and those breakfast shots. I go here at least once every other week and I'm never disappointed.

Visited at about 2 on a wed afternoon, and was surprised at how busy it was. Nice outdoor seating, fun and interesting decor. I had pulled pork with fried pickles, which was delicious. BBQ sauce was spicy with a little heat. Came with "sweet hots" which are sweet pickles. Sis had a jalapeño garlic cheeseburger. She said it was the best burger she has ever had. Absolutely will be back.

Large portions, acceptable versions of fairly standard food but more grease than flavour.

This place is a Denton staple. If you've got visiting relatives, friends from out of town or just looking for a down right good meal and great time-- Roosters is the place to be. You can get some free peanuts in the tin bins located by the front door and sit down and have one of their famous cock-eyed lemonades. (Frozen lemonade of all different kinds of flavors with alcohol in them). It's mostly a BBQ joint, but further inspection of the menu tells you so much more. There's burgers and salads and bar food. Something for everyone's palette. Their homemade chips as a side are addicting, and everything on the menu is delicious. If you're looking to get really messy and try something different, they offer something called a "breakfast shot". A whisky syrup mixture, topped with bacon and an orange juice back. It's the best breakfast I've ever experienced. Open moderately late, Roosters decor consists of redneck memorabilia on the walls and ceilings. There's a chandelier made out of beer cans, deer antlers strung all over the place and naked Barbie dolls in the rafters? Really great service, and really great people. You must go when out Denton-ing.

The pulled pork nachos are amazing! The atmosphere is nice, the food is fun and tasty! Very local, and it's in downtown so you can wonder around the square after dinner. The back patio is shaded in the evenings during summer since it gets a little crowded inside.

my wife had the brisket burger. i had a bite of it and it was pretty flavorful. i'd probably order that next time. i made the mistake of ordering a "bbq" plate. i chose chopped brisket and sausage. the brisket was coated in bbq sauce and i was puzzled to see a pool of grease under the meat. i was thinking, "how is there that much grease from my bbq sauce covered brisket?" and then i take a look at the "bbq" sausage and it was a sausage that was split in the middle and appeared to have been grilled on a flat top grill or maybe a skillet. that was my first time have "bbq" sausage and was cooked on a skillet with grease. yeah, it was also covered in grease. i use the quotation marks around bbq because, to me, it's NOT BBQ! so don't call it that.

Mmm mmm! I love me some Roosters! This is the kind of food you crave when you're an hour away in Dallas. I don't get over here as often as I'd like, but that's probably for the best (I'm sure my blood pressure thanks me). YOU MUST try the pulled pork nachos - they are fanatic and they never skimp on the meat. With queso , shredded cheese, beans, BBQ sauce, fresh jalapenos, pico, and great chips for scooping, what's not to like? It's a flavor explosion. My go-to entrée is the brisket burger. Yes, they do this other places but it is SO GOOD here. Their smokehouse pico is delicious and the burger is made even better if you ask for a side of ranch. Yum! Other favorites are the pit sandwich and the gargantuan fish sandwich (you can eat on it for days). Rooster's has a nice hole in the wall vibe and almost always seems to be hopping, no matter what time of day. They usually have good drink specials with something for both the beer drinkers and the cocktail people. You really can't go wrong here.

Shit was hella salty...n not exactly an "Urban" friendly ambiance, but the people were nice, and the service was sufficient. The prices were good as well, but all the redneck steez had a brotha sweatin n rubbed me the wrong way to keep it real...

I don't use these three letters often, but OMG. This place is phenomenal! Delicious food and good prices, but I absolutely have to warn you: If you are trying to lose weight, if you are on a diet, if you will eat a meal and then feel guilty afterwards, then do not, do not go to Roosters. The food is definitely creative in a man vs. food way, which can definitely hit the spot on occasion. Great service too. Try the Chez Double Bubba Burger. You'll be making satisfied noises after each bite.

Great Pulled Pork nachos, and bbq pit sandwiches, hot homemade chips, Friday fried catfish..... yes, Julie Andrews was singing that in my head because these are a few of my favorite things. (If only she would have sung about these instead, I may have actually made it through that movie as a child.) But seriously, this place is legitimately awesome. There was a point in my life where I ate here minimum once a week when I lived in the area. They have a full bar and have pretty great weekday drink specials, but it's the food that keeps the place packed. I've never eaten at Roosters and not been so happy to be on the verge of a food coma when paying the check. Their pulled pork nachos is probably my favorite meal in Denton. Fresh jalapeno, pico, refried beans and hunks, huge hunks of puled pork atop a multi cheese covered mound of chips is an LDL rich dream come true.

Rooster's a definitely a solid BBQ place to eat at in Denton. I've been here a number of times and really enjoy both the food and the relaxed atmosphere. While I've never had the stomach or pain tolerance to try their Hell Slider Challenge, I have tasted various other items on the menu. The waitstaff is very friendly here and the service is quick and reliable. I am pleased to say that I have always had a great experience eating here. The only drawback is that it can get super busy on weekend nights and you may have to wait a while. The menu boasts a wide array of choices from burgers to sandwiches and BBQ plates. I haven't eaten a burger here because I tend to go straight for the sandwiches and plates. The turkey is moist and lean and provides that wonderful "Yum!" moment you look for when eating sliced white meat. The beef, whether chopped or sliced, is deliciously juicy and flavorful. If you're looking for a heftier offering, you can't go wrong with the PIt Sandwich. This behemoth offers 3 different meats along with pico and sauce. I find that the faster you eat it, the better because of the different juices and sauce soaking up the bread. I do feel like the offerings for the not so carnivorous aren't as tasty. Don't get me wrong, I love my meat, but not everybody does. My girlfriend and I were less than thrilled by the veggies offered. We found them soggy and overcooked. To sum it up, this place is a great BBQ stop to satisfy your carnivorous cravings.

The bbq is really good! I think the best seat in the restaurant are the picnic tables on the patio, especially on weekend evening! I personally really enjoyed the homemade potato chips absolutely delicious.

Get the PBR, its cheaper that soda. They have fantastic salads here if you aren't in a bbq mood. I've eaten here dozens of times and have never had anything less than amazing. My only complaint is the place gets super busy. They could really use another location.

This place is such a stellar hangout after you get off of work at night and want a few drinks and some bbq. I HIGHLY recommend the pulled pork nachos, crispy fried pickles, and bacon cheese fries. I sound like a total fatass saying that but seriously you can't pass 'em up. They're bbq brisket sandwich is amazing. Bbq sauce is sweet with a little bit of spice. They have amazing drink specials as well and the waiting/bar staff are very friendly and accommodating. Try their spiked cherry lemonade!

I arrived in Denton craving Texas-style comfort food. Rooster's fit the bill, and was fairly priced. I didn't even have to wait for a seat on the back porch. The chopped brisket was fantastic, while I'd call the pulled pork OK. But at barely $10, who's complaining?

I love restaurants like this. Small friendly very "Homie" small town feel. I had the pulled pork Cuban. Very yummy. Pulled pork ham cheese and pickles grilled. The queso was bomb so good!! $2 mimosa was yummy, in a very small child size cup. Not that I needed a lot but it would have been nice. I would definitely go back and try somwthing else. Im sure the entire menu is great!!

I've only tried the cheeseburger so far. To me it's the best in Denton. Although RG Burgers has a good patty, I prefer Rooster's because the bun is lighter and doesn't overshadow the well seasoned and flavorful beef. The homemade chips are good. I upgraded to Rooster Tails yesterday and they were awesome (think - wonderful onion rings with an even better dipping sauce). I don't drink anymore so I just pick up the food. It looks like a decent bar though.

I am a huge fan! The atmosphere is fun, and the food is delicious! Must try the cockeyed lemonade is you are a frozen drinks fan. The bacon cheddar burger was scrumptious. Tried the Hotter-Than-Hell Slider, and man does that name describe it! I was on fire for at least 15-20 minutes, but it was fun to try it.

Simple, unpretentious, delicious. The brisket burger and the pit sandwich are phenomenal. The Roosters Ruben and pulled pork nachos are fantastic. It's inexpensive and the service is always fast and friendly. What else is there to say? One of Denton's best.

  • Jay J.

We went there for lunch, and the food was super-average. The Decor looked fun - very Texan in some ways. Also, there were peanuts on the floor. While we didn't drink, it look like it was more fun as a bar than a restaurant. Also, the surrounding area is small but very quaint. I'll give it a one star for the food, and the second star for what looked to be like a fun bar environment.

Rooster's has become our go to spot in Denton. Everything we have tried from the appetizer's-redneck sushi, pulled pork nacho's and brisket Queso to the main dishes, shaved ribeye, burgers and salads have been very good. We would order any of it again. The atmosphere is good and we've never had trouble getting seated quickly even when they look busy. Can't go wrong with Rooster's, just go!!

  • Beth D.

Rooster's may not be the fanciest place in the world, but you will walk out full and satisfied. Normally I'm a fan of onion strings, but the Rooster Tails sell me. They're crispy, the dipping sauce is yummy, and I pretty much can't go there without getting them as a starter. My top favorites from the menu are actually specials: their catfish and macaroni and cheese. They aren't available all the time, but when they're offered, it is ALWAYS worth a trip. Check out their Facebook late in the afternoon on Fridays to find out what the special for the weekend will be. The mac & cheese is perfect as it is and also delicious when they do it up fried. Someday I will talk them into adding it as a permanent fixture on the menu. Until then, their barbecue turkey is fabulous when accompanied with their gorgeous homemade chips or super crispy fried okra. If you have any room left at all, don't miss out on their desserts. The ding-dong in a cup is my personal favorite, but you can't go wrong with any of it!

If it was not for Yelp we would NOT have eaten here. I am glad we did. The day we went was apparently motorcycle club hang out day - so we approached with apprehension. We had fried pickles which we would order again. I had some humongous burger with chopped beef, sliced brisket, hamburger patty and 4 pieces of Texas Toast and home made chips. My wife had the pulled pork nachos - and we topped it off with banana cream desert. The desert was a tad overpriced for the size but everything else we would recommend without hesitation. Service was impeccable, nice and clean place with a fun atmosphere AND the bikers were extremely well behaved. Can not go wrong eating here in my opinion.

  • Ryan M.

Rooster's is one of the absolute best restaurants in Denton, hands down. Not to mention their burgers are incredible. I highly recommend trying the Brisket Burger and if you like a bit of heat add on Grilled Jalapenos. I highly recommend Roosters to everyone I meet!

  • Dolores K.

I was a little worried about this place when we walked in. It is literally a hole in the wall, but hearing such great things, we kept an open mind. Boy - was the food great! The Pulled Pork Nachos were really good, but a tad messy. I got the Jalapeno Burger and their house made chips. I'm a burger snob, but this burger was excellent. Seriously. Great flavor. House made chips were okay. Nothing special and I on;y ate a few. My beau got the smoked meat platter - brisket and turkey. He said they were pretty good. His fries, while not house made, were cooked perfectly. That is important to us. They have jam jar desserts and fried peach pie. We asked the waitress if they home make the pie, which they don't. So, we passed on trying out dessert. My burger was the star of the experience, and for that alone, we will be coming back!

Went in for lunch during a recent business trip with a coworker. The place was really busy and we both ordered a couple bbq sandwiches. Sandwiches were good - no complaints. Chips were soggy but nothing much to complain about. If you're looking for a quick bite to quench your bbq hunger, this is the place to go.

Fantastic place! Definitely worth it to eat here! Get the Redneck Sushi as an appetizer. The burgers are great and so is the fish sandwich. But, best of all is the banana pudding. If you want any of the desserts here you HAVE to pick that one. You won't be disappointed.

    (5)
  • Michael S.

I wasn't as impressed with it as a lot of other folks seem to have been. I tried the "redneck sushi" and it just wasn't that great. I mean, it wasn't "bad." But, I didn't think it was all that "good," either, at least not in relation to all of the suggestions I've seen claiming "You HAVE to try it!" I also tried the sliders and their homemade chips. The sliders were pretty good. The chips were "ok." (They seemed kinda greasy-damp when they arrived, but seemed to crisp up some, over time.) The "big" draft beer wasn't too bad of a deal (I thought the "smaller" pint-sized one was a little over-priced, but not outrageously so). The wait-staff was great! Friendly, accommodating, and in no hurry to rush us out of there. But, the food didn't "sell" me on the place. So, bottom-line, would I go back? Maybe. But, since I don't go to Denton very often, I would probably try somewhere else on my next visit.

Luv the hell burger!!! This was our second visit and everyone enjoyed the food as well az the ambiance. Our waiter was very prompt and courteous. The fried pickles r very good also. Some day...when i dont eat fried pickles first...i will eat 3 of the hell burgers

Our first time here was great. You can sit outside in the front or back or stay inside and have elevated seating, booth or table. We were greeted and seated quickly by a friendly young man. It took a moment for our waitress to arrive to get our drink orders, but this gave us time to take in the place. The motif is very redneck with peanut shells on the floor and a place at the front to get a bucket of peanuts if you wish. The music was not too loud and the staff was very nice. To start, we order the Rooster Tails (deep fried onion slices) and the fried pickles. Our waitress let us split the appetizer instead of having to get two separate ones as to keep from getting too much food to start. They were delicious and a good portion of a split. We ordered the two meat dinners and the portions were huge. Definitely left overs! The sliced beef was lean and not too dry. The pulled pork was juicy and not too fatty. The fried okra was crunchy and the mix of sweet pickles and jalapenos was a twist but I enjoyed it. The desserts were served in small mason jars. I enjoyed the brownie while others from my party enjoyed the banana pudding. Both were delicious (preference on the brownie for me :D) The price point was excellent for the amount of food you get. There was no wait for us to be seated or served, however we went on an off night (not weekend). Parking can be a challenge as there is limited parking in front of the building. There is surrounding parking available for no charge. All in all, we'll be back again. :)

EDIT: Had seriously bad service again (I don't know if the lady servers think they aren't going to get a good tip off two girls or what, but we had great luck with all the guy servers) combined with soggy chips and a super salty turkey plate make for an even sadder rating. Perhaps my irritation with the service is affecting how I feel about the food, but geez. :( ----- I'm currently really grumpy at Rooster's. I had the worst service of my life here not too long ago, and haven't been back since. I've also had some of the most delicious, fried, terrible-for-you-but-give-me-it-now food here. The burgers are wonderful, the jelly jar desserts (especially the Cup o' Ding Dong) get me everytime, but HOT DAMN some of the servers suck. Don't ever, EVER come in here on any day where something is happening at UNT. Ever. If you see an inordinate amount of people on the Square wearing green, go to Guapo's or Fuzzy's or anywhere else. Rooster's just can't handle it. The smoked turkey salad (the one without chicken fried bacon), cheesesteak, and the bloody mary bar are all worth going for.

How have I never reviewed Roosters?! This place is amAzing! If you have not been here yet, stop reading now and just GO! This is definitely on the top of my list when in Denton, which lucky for me is fairly often. If you try nothing else here, you must get the pulled pork nachos! These are the things dreams are made of.. Cheesy, BBQ-y, wonderful dreams! But of course you will want to try more once you've had the amazingness that is those nachos, and assuming you want something other than another order of them (which you might and I certainly would not judge you) the brisket burger is awesome as is the pit sandwich. This place is a must try and be sure to save a little room for banana pudding!

Went to Rooster's for the first time today with my husband and two kids (10, 5). The reviews are spot on. I got the pulled pork nachos, my husband got the single meat plate with fries, and my kids both got cheeseburgers. We also got the Rooster Tails - awesome! All the food was fresh and tasted awesome. The pulled pork nachos had a great mix of flavors - pork, refried beans, bbq sauce, pico, cheese. Not flavors I would have put together on my own, but man, was it great! We were greeted quickly and all the staff was very friendly. We sat outside on the patio and it has a great vibe. Highly recommend Rooster's to all!

The food here is definitely good, and Rooster's has a cool patio out back. The meats are good. They're not the best I've had in Texas, but they're up there. I loooooooooooooooove the redneck sushi, so check that out if you get the chance. The burgers are good as well, though my burgers have been a bit overcooked. It's a fun place to go.

We came here for breakfast/brunch/lunch after a long night of Fry Street shenanigans. The wait was pretty short, and we were seated out back fairly quickly. On Sunday they have a Build-Your-Own Bloody Mary bar, which is pretty cool. We all ordered the Bloody Mary, and they just brought out big glasses full of ice and vodka. The selection of ingredients was fairly formidable as well. We had many hot sauces, veggies, garnishes, and types of tomato juice and mix available. We had a collection of different fried foods as appetizers, and then decided to be daring on behalf of our hungover friend. The Ghost Chili Slider is on the menu, cheap, and EXTREMELY hot. We ordered it on behalf of our friend and he was a good sport and signed the required waiver in order to eat this slider. The slider is topped with a ghost chili puree as well as jalapenos . He ate it quickly like a champ without any complaints. Pretty simple, huh? I thought that I would be daring as well and reached across for a jalapeno and sopped up the remaining ghost chili puree with the pepper. BAD IDEA. My friend immediately started sweating profusely and looking pretty miserable. I had 1/20 of what he had and I also begin to sweat and feel strange. The only way I can describe ghost chili heat is to describe it as a head-burn vs a mouth burn. My mouth was fine, but my head was burning up! If you want to dare a friend to eat this or make silly bets, GO FOR IT! If you want to enjoy a delicious slider that won't melt your face off, order something else! Afterward, I decided to finally eat my lunch, which consisted of a hamburger sandwiched between two grilled cheese sandwiches. Very good choice. Excellent choice. You can actually feel your arteries clog as you eat it. This was definitely a fun place to visit. We will be back for Bloody Marys and blazing-hot sliders another Sunday morning.

We had a large group of kids and adults in for a basketball tournament. We thought there was no way they could get us in and out. They service and food was excellent. The staff couldn't have been more accommodating and friendly. I would recommend this place highly and look forward to coming back again. Great burgers and the homemade chips were awesome....

Best cheeseburger & fries I've had in a looooong time! This place was recommended by a client and I have to say they were absolutely right. The food is great & the employees get the order right. They will continue to get my business!

I love this place. I had the Brisket Burger and it was awesome. My wife had the pulled pork nachos and they were very good. In the past, I've had the sliced brisket and pulled pork on their BBQ plate and both were solid. The fried pickles & homemade potato chips were ok, but nothing special. The beer came in frozen mugs and the prices are very good for what you get.

I haven't tried a thing there I didn't like. The burgers, bbq, nachos- heck even the fish sandwich is good. They have good drink specials and the food is very reasonably priced. The redneck vibe is just cheesy enough to be amusing, but not overdone to the point that it is annoying. The only reason it is getting 4 stars instead of 5 is that it can get a little crowded and confusing whenever they are busy (no hostess stand or 'seat yourself' sign leads to people standing in the middle of the aisle not knowing what to do). Service has been a little hit an miss, but that can be said for any restaurant. Roosters is a great, laid back place for dinner before catching a show at Dan's, or lunch with the family, or when you just want some stick to your ribs comfort food. Try it!

I've been here several times and the food is always amazing...I start with their infamous hell sliders, not for the average joe but definitely hot and delicious...Then I finish with the bubba double burger, this comes with an egg..A+ just for that...The burgers are juicy with a nice crisp end...I have yet to have a bad experience. ...

Between the clay pigeon ash trays and the sow ear tags for table numbers, this place has got a good vibe. Had the brisket burger, fried okra, and the brisket, bean, and queso. All did not disappoint. It was loud and crowded inside, but the front and back patios were quiet. The back patio has no smoking. Worth every penny.

This place looks like a hole in the wall bar and maybe it is, but I took the family in for lunch. The menus were paper and kind of gross due to the previous grubby hands holding them. But then it gets good. The service was excellent and friendly. The cheese fries were excellent with the sliced fresh jalapenos and bacon. The burgers were excellent. I got the brisket burger since the menu listed it as their best item and it is by far one of the best burgers I have had. Will definitely go back again and again...for lunch.

GREAT BBQ, awesome bloody mary bar on the weekends, and cool venue. Makes me wish I still lived in Denton.

Good BBQ for a good price. Kind of a go to of mine when I'm stuck on what to eat. Get the Pit Sandwich.

Now I remember why we don't come here... The burger was overdone and they don't cook to order. To their credit the waitress told us it would be because "the patties are so thin". Also, their BBQ sushi was so smothered in sauce that it lost all flavor. We went here to try the "Hell Burger" after seeing it on the Heat Seekers TV show. The Hell burger doesn't disappoint in heat, but really does in flavor. This was obviously a ploy to get on TV with little thought to how it actually tastes. We LOVE spicy food when it's done right. You should get a lot of heat, sweat, cry and beg for mercy. But it should also have a great taste. This is by far the hottest thing I've ever eaten (in fact, "iron-gut Molly" couldn't keep it down) but it's so covered in the sauce -a theme here- that that's all you get. We were so excited to try Rooster's again and were highly disappointed. Skip it and go elsewhere!

Yummy sliders. The fries weren't so good. But the food was good. I recommend this place.

Best BBQ in Denton. My favorite BBQ place ever. Drink prices are amazing, and the food is worth much more than they charge. Absolutely awesome.

The absolute best hamburger I have had for under $50. This place has great service, nice people, incredible food, and absolutely the coldest beer. Oh yeah - and everyone there was having a great time.

Good food for a good price with a cool atmosphere. I really like the smoked ribeye sandwich.

I had the smoked garlic jalapeño bacon cheddar burger and it was very good. The meat tasted fresh and was juicy and I loved the grilled jalapeños. Rooster tails were delicious, batter wasn't overt thick and was well seasoned. Server was friendly and had a nice smile.

My fiance and I were driving through Denton (#1 best small town from Business Insider) on our way from Florida to California and were craving some good BBQ. Thanks to Yelp, we were led to Rooster's Roadhouse. We were welcomed by a large Rooster head on the building (you can't miss it) then as we opened the door, a lively Tuesday night crowd was cracking peanuts and drinking tall PBRs all around. Our server was super friendly and recommended the Ribeye Cheesesteak and Brisket burger - we were not disappointed! I would definitely recommend the fried pickles instead of the homemade chips. And please take the time to read the whole menu - so dang funny - Rooster's Sloppy Joes: the trailer park original. Oh, I love this place! Definitely worth the stop!

AMAZING. So, so tasty. Got the brisket burger and I have never had better BBQ sauce, or better brisket (and I have a Jewish grandmother, which is a lot like winning the brisket lottery) in my life. Melts in your mouth. I had the rooster tails, which are fantastic and come with a yummy sauce, but I only ate a few of them so that I could fit all of the amazingness that is the brisket burger into my stomach. My fiance had some other asterisked burger on the menu, don't remember what it was called, but it had sausage on it. I sampled it and the sausage was fantastic. He ordered fried pickles as a side and I am pleased to report that Rooster's does them correctly. This place is my new favorite in Denton. Absolutely loved it.

Ordered for pickup. Rooster's Reuben with a side of tots. Both were amazing and delicious. Service was great and pickup time was fast. Didn't get a fortune cookie though and I was upset until I realized that I am overweight and I don't need a cookie. Love Roosters! 5 stars all day.

This is one of my favorite places, love the staff, pulled pork nachos are yummy and rooster tails are my favorite! Beer is cheap and margaritas are $2.75... Can't beat that! We go here often on our date night, never to long of a wait.. Love roosters!

So good! Grab the roasted peanuts in a shell first.... Menu is not big but very nice! Paper towels, silverware, spices on table. Have to say the sliders were the best I have ever had! The pulled pork nachos were nice servings of pork with just enough barbecue sauce to really hit the spot. The Go see them! Will be worth the trip and experience!

I created a Yelp account just for the purpose of reviewing Rooster's. It's simply the best food in Denton. PERIOD. I feel like I stalk this place I go there so much. But really, the BBQ sauce is the best I've had in Dallas or Denton. The burgers just destroy RG Burgers or whatever is "popular" in Denton. The pulled pork nachos are divine! There's nothing bad on the menu! If you're taking people for the first time, always get the Redneck Sushi appetizer, and then get the Brisket Burger. It's a wonderful burger with some brisket on top. It's not enormous like you'd imagine, and it pairs wonderfully with the bacon cheddar fries. And please try the desserts in a jar! They're $3!! Can't say enough nice things about this restaurant!

Deserving of a truly epic 5 star rating which I don't hand out too often. Pretty simple no frills joint where the menu's are bbq sauce stained and tattered, but they serve their purpose for the big show. Thanks to fellow Yelper's we decided to give this place a shot to see if the ratings matched the food. Yup yup. We tried a little bit of everything and if I'd had more than me and my husband there, I would have totally been down with the Hell burger. Alas, that challenge is still there for our next visit as I think I should have a support staff present for that undertaking. Anyway, we did try out the sushi (must try), I stuck with the nachos and to finish it off, had some banana pudding. Everything. I mean EVERYTHING.... was solid. Can't wait to come back actually.

I'm not going to say that Rooster's is the best burger in Denton. HOWEVER, Rooster's has the best burger atmostphere, and those freaking awesome spiral cut potato chips are to DIE for. So, this is where I will begin. Don't ever order french fries here, get the chips with a side of Ranch. (Don't like ranch, use ketchup or just salt) and get ready to be knocked out of your boots. If you can't afford much get the Basic Cheesburger basket with the chips. This never lets me down. This is always good. This is always filling. Moving on. I have recently upgraded from the basic Cheeseburger basket onto the Brisket Burger with a substitution of the pico for the Red Onion Marmalade. Imagine a hamburger. Imagine a hamburger with chopped brisket, and then throw some super caramelized sweet red onions on top. *heads explode* I KNOW ITS AWESOME! (get with chips of course.) Onto Dessert. Rooster's carries a variety of desserts that they tend to SELL OUT OF because they are so good. They are generally a pie or cookie and pudding type dessert that is served in a half pint mason jar. My favorite is the coconut cream pie and it is much to my chagrin when they are sold out. However the 2nd favorite of mine is their banana pudding so good. I know all of the desserts are good, but I can't get past these two. If you are looking for an adventure, they have the food challenges that all awesome places like Roosters has. They have the mini-slider challenge and then there is also the Ghost Burger. You will have to pop in sometime to find out more about those! A little burnt out on Fuzzy's? Go to Roosters!

We just ate at Roosters for the 3rd time today. I've gotten the turkey BBQ sandwich before and the turkey is soooo tasty but today I tried something else I am so glad I did! The rooster tails and fried pickles are SO good but the best part of the meal was the ribeye cheesesteak! Seriously, hands down, the BEST cheesesteak I've ever had. Soooooo good!! Definitely reccomend Roosters and the cheesesteak.

My daughter and I had lunch at Rooster's yesterday. At first, I didn't see a high chair, but once I mentioned it, the waitress ran to the back to get one. I scanned the menu for something my 18 month old daughter could eat, but didn't see anything suitable. I was about to leave and see if Fuzzy's would be a better option, but before I left, the waitress realized that I needed a kid's menu, too. The menu was a coloring page (that came with crayons), too. It was nice to have something that kept my daughter busy while we waited for our food. I got the bacon burger and I ordered the chicken strips for my daughter. The bacon burger was good, but if/when I go back, I'll have to order a larger burger. I have a big appetite and the bacon burger was just a tad small for me. The chicken strips were very, very good. My daughter's not able to eat as much as was given (which is a good thing, in my opinion). I ate some of her food. The chicken strips tasted like they had been cooked with or very near onion rings. They were awesome! I don't know if they're meant to taste like that, but two thumbs up, any way! Good customer service; friendly and polite.

Wow, what a find!! I tried this place yesterday and let me just tell you, this place has the best burger in all of DFW. This small BBQ place is in the heart of Denton. It features a full bar, cheap beers, and ample patio space. We started off with the brisket queso. This is now my new favorite queso ever. Big hunks of brisket, onion, and sweet relish on top...mmmm. I had a Lonestar to go with my meal because I feel like if you are in Denton, you should be drinking a Lonestar or PBR. I ordered the Chez' Double Burger - two patties grilled to perfection, cheese, mushrooms, truffle mayo, and a fried egg. I cut into the sandwich and the egg oozed perfectly all over the meat. Best burger that has ever been in my mouth. The french fries were crispy and fresh. I sampled my boyfriends Debris Po'boy - tender meat on a hoagie roll with a wonderful debris gravy. He had his sandwich with the homemade Rooster's chips. The chips reminded me of chips you would get at the fair - spiral cut, crispy, with perfect seasoning. We then moved on to the jelly jar dessert. They offer peanut brittle or banana pudding topped with whipped cream. We opted for the banana pudding. The dessert tasted old fashioned. It had hunks of banana and vanilla wafers throughout. It was the perfect finish, to a perfect meal. This restaurant also boasts an 18 slider challenge. You have 30 minutes to eat a server tray lined with 18 sliders, and filled in the middle with bacon cheddar fries. If you finish under 30 minutes, it is free. If you can't shovel it all in, you pay about 40 bucks. The quality of this food is amazing. Everything comes out piping hot. The servers are friendly and efficient. One server noticed an elderly couple struggling to open the door to the back porch and he ran to assist them. This place is great! Dislodge yourself from your computer chair right now Yelpers, and start reviewing this place like mad. Its only a matter of time before this place blows up with business.

I always get the brisket burger which is AWESOME, but tonight i got the pulled pork and YUM-OH. The homemade potato chips are always a highlight and i definitely have to mention their $2 ziggy. I've visited this location several times, and i don't always get the best service. But tonight we had a great server, and i'm sad i didn't catch her name. long dark hair and tonight it was in a fish-tail braid. she was so patient with our big group, and continued to be friendly throughout the entire night!

Went with fellow Yelper Tommy H and our spouses. Awesome place! The atmosphere is fantastic; roadhouse feel without being trashy. We had the Red Neck Sushi, which featured brisket and sweet-hot pickles rolled in a flour tortilla with BBQ sauce, and the brisket nachos, both were very good. For the main course, it was the Big A** Grilled Cheese Double Burger; I added an egg to mine but otherwise took it stock. If I had a complaint at all, it was that it wasn't greasy ENOUGH. The grilled cheese sandwiches were a little dry and needed an additional slice of cheese. For dessert, I had the brownie a la mode served in the half pint Mason jar. Very, very tasty. I'm glad I don't have a place like this in my home town; I'd gain 50 lbs in 2 months. :)

Fantastic but greasy food, the "Bigass Grilled Cheese Double Burger" is awesome, also the King Brisket Burger, also the Chez Double Bubba Burger, Damn Good Fish Sandwich and of course, the almighty double burning Hell Burger!!! The owner dude, who is a super nice guy who trys to talk to all the patrons, said they got a new source for the ghost chili's they use in the sauce, and I think it shows, because it's even hotter than before, but the flavor is still super awesome!

Walked passed this place the first time on our way to Fuzzy's Tacos... Mistake. Didn't care too much for Fuzzy's so we checked out Yelp reviews for the restaurant we passed on the way there and decided to try it next time. Loved it! The place was packed, but it didn't take too long to get a seat. Lone Star on draft was a dollar! Brisket burger and pulled pork Cuban were great. Will definitely be back!

This is a must have! One of my favorite places now...in fact, will probably go tonight! Best things that I have tried on the menu are: Bean & Chopped Brisket Queso Chopped Salad with Turkey (best salad ever!) Southern Comfort Salad (2nd best ever!) Smoked Ribeye Cheesesteak Sandwich Damn Good Fish Sandwich Great owner that's always there! Great atmosphere and cold beer!!! Bloody Mary bar on the weekends.

This place was absolutely packed at 8pm, I think they had as much business as every other Industrial St joint combined at the time. Service was still immediate - the greeter said I could get to-go from the bartender, who was instantly available. I got the Big A$$ burger that had grilled cheese sandwiches instead of bread and I thought the taste met the gimmick value, with meat and veggies excellently done. I don't eat meat often, but I'm still temped to try that Hell Burger eating challenge. Spent $10 including tax/tip and I felt it was well used.

wish i could give them 10 stars! this place is soooo delish! come hungry and leave with a food baby cause your going to want to eat alot! everything is really really tasty. dont forget to try the queso. reminds me of old school rotel dip, when i was a kid and the tomatoes were whole. mmmmmmmmmmm-mmmmmmmmm. i almost always have a cheeseburger and fries you can add brisket for an even tastier burger. SERIOUSLY i love this place!!!!!!!

Well rounded joint with eclectic decor, great bar, and very inexpensive tasty goods. BBQ is unique, and combined on a interesting variety of sandwiches. It's one of the few places I go that I can't seem to find a favorite dish. And the Hell Burger lives up to its reputation if your looking for a challenge.

They make BBQ the way Taco Bell makes authentic tex mex. It wouldn't be too bad if they at least had taco bell prices. This is Texas, you can find real bbq for the prices this dump charges.

Stopped by here yesterday after brothers graduation. I read up about the place on their website. I knew I was entering a redneck resteraunt so I had to get in touch with my roots. Yep, redneck all right so im expecting the BBQ to be tasty, and it was. We ordered the nachos with pulled pork and BBQ sauce and a smoked turkey sandwhich and they were VERY tasty! The waitress was working her butt off too. My brother ordered a jalapeño burger with a side of hell sauce....I tasted the sauce and it was just as hot as I was hoping for, ghost pepper city here. Overall, the food and service was great but the only let down was the very basic beer line up but I expected that in a redneck joint but a hoppy pale ale or an IPA would go much better with this food then a Corona or a Shiner.

  • Kimberly D.

The worst service of my life! I am sad about this, because this was one of my favorite places to eat. Tip: Never sit outside, when you try to order food you are rudely refused, wait 40 minutes to place a food order, only to be charged for the wrong things. Never going back!

    (1)
  • Kelly N.

I should start out by saying that my family and I eat here a lot. We have for a long time now. We even bring friends from out of town here frequently. I like the laid back, "divey" atmosphere and enjoy the back patio. The pulled pork nachos and redneck sushi are so very delicious. They also have specials on the weekends for bloody mary's and mimosas, and their jelly jar desserts are delightful. It's a great place to grab drinks and greasy heart-attack inducing food with friends. On the flip side, I find most of the food here to be way too salty, and the service ranges from "a little less than desirable" to downright sucksville! I think the service is even getting worse each time we go. It takes forever sometimes to get someone to take your order; and then the waitstaff may never come back to check on you, which really stinks if you're needing more beverage to wash down spicy food!!!

  • Jennifer C.

I've been here a handful of times now and it never disappoints! I'm all about BBQ. I am in love with their turkey. Rudy's was my favorite before I came here but now I prefer Rooster's.The sides are great, service is friendly and super attentive. We've even walked-in and ordered to-go, sitting at the bar while we waited. I always like to give constructive feedback but I seriously cannot think of one bad thing to say about Rooster's!

I live about 30 minutes away from Rooster's, so while I have visited many times now, I have never actually gone without bringing a number of friends for the single purpose of sharing one or more of the Texas Slider Challenge platters. As a few people have pointed out, this is a plate of 18 sliders surrounding a mound of bacon cheese fries. As you might expect from reading that simple description, it is a delicious site to behold. However, one cannot describe the perfect charred flavor of those sliders. They are amazing and share no equal that I am aware of. My only complaint is that the challenge costs $40 when shared as opposed to $30 if attempted by yourself. I don't think it actually costs more for them to make it if it's shared, because it's the same. The good news is sometimes the extra $10 "share charge" is left out by the server, either by accident or kindness. It's also possible there's a more convenient way to order sliders for yourself or smaller groups, but I think the menu only specifies an option that comes with extra toppings (the full challenge just has meat, cheese and bread--all you need). From what I've seen, there are a number of tasty looking things on the menu that I might actually try one day if I get bored of the sliders. The only thing else I've ever tried are the fried pickles which are also good.

Rooster's is the kind of place you go eat when you feel like harming your body. The food is heavy, even the salads, but pretty freakin good. The atmosphere is mildly divey out of schtick-sake and the service has always been pretty decent. Recently, I noticed they removed the loose meat debris po boy from the menu which was my goto item when dining there. Since then I've tried other things, but haven't been as happy with them. Today I had the green tomato double bacon burger. It was delicious. My only issue, and this is the first time I've had this issue, is that no sooner did I leave the establishment, the stomach cramps started. I've been flat on my back since then and it's been 3 hours. So, if you aren't much of a meat eater like myself, save yourself and get something with just one patty because my body is currently in rejection mode. Otherwise, I like the place.

My husband and I passed through Denton on the way to Oklahoma and just happened to stop by Rooster's, and man was it delicious!! We started off with a side of fried pickles and fried onions and both were delicious (the pickles much more than the onions though). Then, he ordered the brisket sandwich and I ordered the oh-so-enticing "Big A Grilled Cheese Double Burger" (with only one meat patty). It is basically two grilled cheese sandwiches with a burger in between. wow. We love this place and will definitely be making the drive to go back up there.

Rooster's seems to fit in rather well with a Fuzzy's next door. I suppose it works well with the two cuisines if you want BBQ and some tacos when you sit outside. Pulled pork over fish tacos sound good (probably not). They have some great drink specials on certain days. I think Mondays and Wednesdays include $1.50 domestics. Sweetums yo. If you were to order an appetizer, I suggest the Pulled Pork Nachos. It's like $8, but it's pretty much a meal and it seems to be a bit tastier than the Pulled Pork Sandwich. Maybe it's all the other stuff they add like pico de gallo and jalapenos. Actually, most of the BBQ sandwiches are kinda small in size, but the other sandwiches are pretty generous. The Fish Sandwich is surprisingly large and comes with a pretty awesome sauce. There's a double burger that uses TWO grilled cheese sandwiches as the buns. The grilled cheeses slightly overpower the burger, but it's still pretty fantastic and makes you fat and happy. Oh, their chips are homemade and well-salted and good and crispy. What else do you demand of a chip? besides possibly for it to be chocolate? There's a slider challenge; something I'd totally do. I don't remember how many sliders it is, but it's like something like 18 and it comes with bacon cheese fries. Good finish it or else you won't be cool. Duh. Lastly... there's the Hell Burger. The Hell Burger is a slider and is only $3 and is supposed to be so hot/spicy that you feel it in your ass even before you have to poop. You get it a la mode for $9. Trixy hobbitses. What is this? Crumbs? *picks it off cloak*

This place does not disappoint! I can't stop raving about this place to friends and family and visit every time I'm in Denton. The owner knows how to run a restaurant, always makes sure to greet you with a friendly smile. DFW is not known for BBQ and this place won't win any BBQ awards, but it is above average and the meat is more than sufficient to make a good sandwich. I recommend the pit sandwich if you've got an appetite.

Overall enjoyable experience at roosters. I had the pulled pork sandwich and my wife had the sliders. Both were really good. Cheddar fries were a hit as well. Friendly staff. Minus one star for the limited number of beers on tap. Regular shiner was the only Texas beer on tab. We will definitely be back.

There are certain moments at work, when you're not sure when it will happen, but you know it when you can no longer be productive. Ever get that feeling? Well, today that moment began right after having Rooster's for lunch. :yawns: (time, 12:15p) It was my first time here, but I read from the other yelp reviews that the BBQ joint was pretty good. This was confirmed from the time we arrived to the time are orders hit the table. When our "small" group of seven arrived at the door, there was a legion of super-sized men (at least 15) in sweat-stained shirts, dirty work boots, and well-worn wranglers - not to mention, all smiles, as they were making their lethargic and lumbering departure. Surrounding them was tables and booths, and bar stools all filled with hungry patrons. What perfect timing for us! While the staff was scrambling to clean off the tables for us, there was much to keep us hungry folks entertained and distracted. The entire place was adorned with neon lit beer signs, dead animals, vintage beer/sports paraphernalia, and of course large screen tv's - slapped on almost every square inch of the walls and ceilings. You can easily be entertained in here, especially if you live in a frat house; drive a tractor or own a rifle. I'm more about the good food, and good it was about to be... :pause for a quick nap: zzzzzz (time, 2:33p) When our food arrived, shortly after we ordered, the table went quiet for the first few minutes. We were all amazed how the food came out so fast and smelled so yummy, we stopped talking and started eating. I devoured my delicious BBQ sliced beef brisket sandwich with side of fried pickles. It was a $2 to upgrade from the standard (house made) potato chips side to a different side option. Lemmetellya, the fried pickles were worth every bite. The batter is light and crunchy with all the right spices, and the pickles are sweet and tarty....mmm, and a double MMM MMM with the side of ranch. And the brisket sandwich came with their "smokehouse relish" which was basically a pickle relish with BBQ sauce. Others had ordered the fried catfish basket, a "double wide"-looking salad, a simple burger, a Hungry manish meat plate...all looked & smelled good, and all eaten entirely at the table. And on top of that, it was FREE, thanks to our generous boss. :burp: oh, excuse me. :clock out: (time, 4:59p)

Watch out for the hell burger boy... It'll getcha! So some coworkers and myself found out about this place from a lady in the elevator as we were descending trying to find where to go to lunch one day last week. She told us it was great and we ought to give it a shot. We have since been there... 3 times?! We are all raving fans! I will tell you this is a total meat place. It's a guys paradise though. They have a burger, the big a** Burger, that is a double cheese burger with a grilled cheese as both the top and bottom bun! It is ridiculous, I had it, and it was, if nothing else tons of fun to eat! I did partake in the hell burger: a burger that you must be both 18 years of age or over and are required to sign a waiver just to be served it. The best part is it is a slider! Let me tell you: it is hot. The sauce includes both habenaro peppers and ghost chili peppers. Be careful! Quick Hits: -great BBQ -great burgers -cheap drinks -food is well priced -not a ton of seating -service is pretty good, and nice.

I usually get the loose meat debris po' boy; definitely my highest recommendation here. Fried okra is my favorite side; goes great with ranch. I have also had the Big-Ass Burger, already legendary for its replacement of the buns with grilled cheese sandwiches. They should rename it Regret. Doesn't hold up well as a leftover, either. My wife and I tried the brisket queso on our first visit. Swing and a miss, but an ambitious one. Loaded fries and redneck sushi are much better options. Rooster's might be the only restaurant in Texas that doesn't serve Dr Pepper, but somehow that's not a problem. Coca-Cola is perfectly suited to the food here. Most of the times that I eat here are because it's one of those rare days when I'm craving Coke over DP. I was going to do the slider challenge with some coworkers once but they flaked. Still trying to amass the testicular fortitude necessary to consume the hell burger.

I ate with my husband and our friends at Rooster's the other night for the first time. We sampled several things from the menu to get a good idea of the food quality. When walking it it wasn't super clear whether we were to sit or wait to be seated, so we picked a booth and were quickly greeted by a friendly waiter. He informed us it was full service, and directed us to the paper menus on our table. I got chopped brisket on a bun instead of bread, and though the barbecue sauce quickly demolished the bun, it was excellent. I had the rooster tails as a side and those + the dipping sauce were awesome. The fried pickles were a little overpowered by the breading, but the spices in it were tasty. We had a great time, the food was substantial and great quality, and the atmosphere was relaxing and fun. We will be back soon.

This place is awesome! I love the atmosphere and the food is fantastic! I always get the sloppy joe. It's the best! I also love the blue cheese fries, bean & chopped brisket queso (you must try it!), and you can't go wrong with their frozen lemonades.

Simply THE best hamburger in North Texas. Period. Staff is incredibly friendly and the food is different than your standard places. I wish the beer selection was better but the quality of food more than makes up for that.

Okay, Roosters both surprised and impressed. The beef here is top grade, the brisket burger was among the best I've had, and their jar of pie was the perfect closer. The BBQ sauce is their own, and for the brave there is their SPICY sliders that'll light up the most hardcore pepper aficionado. For the adventurous, give their Cowboy Sushi a go... Delightful!!

OO! I can't believe I never paid attention to this place before. It's right next to Fuzzy's tacos and it always kind of exuded that sports bar with bar-food kinda vibe (which I'm really not into) so i guess that's what got me. But yesterday I decided I had a craving for BBQ, and so I yelped it and guess who popped up! We chose our table when we got there and were told the meus were on the table. Turns out the menus are greasy pieces of paper folded between the salt and pepper shakers. It might put someone else off, but the place isn't particularly upscale and anyway I was in the mood for BBQ and a little greasy bit of paper wasn't going to faze me! I ordered the Chopped Brisket burger (brisket, burger patty, souther pico--kinda like relish) and my boyfriend got the Chez Bubba burger (therewas an egg on it! I totally have my eye on that for next time). Both burgers came with a side of homemade potato chips. When I first saw the brisket burger on the menu I was a bit daunted by the double meat thing. I asked the server if it would be too much and she informed me that the patties were thin and the sandwich wasnt all that big, so I went for it. The burgers came out really quickly, and sure enough they were surprisingly small for restaurant burgers. I loved that though because I despise those so-big-i-can-barely-eat-half-much-less-the-sides kind of burgers. These sandwiches are about the size of one you would make at a barbeque in your back yard. I was very thankful for this because it was then I spotted the jelly-jar desserts! I. love. dessert. First the sandwich though: mine was tender, flavorful, maybe a bit salty, and I threw on some potato chips because I like to do that, so crunchy :) The boyfriend had no complaints, although he started taking my potato chips because his were a bit on the greasy side and mine were drier. I had peach fried pie for dessert and he had a lemon cream jelly jar pie. The fried pie was small as well, as was the jelly jar pie, but both were just enough for us. The peach pie was not bad it had great flavor although I wish they used bigger chunks of peach. My boyfriend actually liked it because they didnt use large chunks of peach. The lemon pie was tart, and sweet -- almost too sweet, but it was good on the whole. All in all I left satisfied, but not feeling like I had swallowed a bowling ball. Will definitely be returning with some school friends for round two!

Rooster's, in a word, is righteous. I wasn't expecting much from a place that looked like an overly glitzy chain BBQ joint, but I had the chopped brisket sandwhich and the meat was incredibly moist, tender, and flavorful. Their house BBQ sauce was well-spiced without overpowering the awesome meat, and the bread was all sorts of buttery grilled goodness. Plus they have some sort of greens-based relish that is a great fresh counterpoint to the heavy meat. Drink + sandwhich + house-made chips was under $10 per person, and my friend and I were both very impressed. Will definitely make a point to go again, SOON. =D

This is definitely one of my favorite places to go. The food is delicious and relatively cheap -- most of the menu is under $10, and meals start at $5. In my opinion, the best thing on the menu is the King Brisket Burger. This is a lot of brisket topped with cheddar and barbeque sauce with veggies on toasted bread. It's amazing. I've also had their Sloppy Joe, Cheeseburger, and Reuben that I can really, and all were great. Meals come with potato chips made in-house, which are delicious, but you can sub other sides. Also, their jelly-jar desserts (coconut creme pie, banana pudding, etc) are also delicious. This is also a bar, and the drinks are pretty cheap. They have 10 oz domestic drafts for $1.50 all the time, I believe. They also have cockeyed lemonade in several flavors for $2. On top of that there is no smoking inside (great for us non-smokers) and 2 patios (great for everyone).

My coworkers and I have Rooster's on our regular lunch rotation and for good reason. We love meats and giant portions of food and you get both here. The restaurant is off Industrial, sandwiched between two other Denton favorites, Fuzzy's and Dan's. The building space is small but they also have a patio. And there's just something about consuming meats and drinks on a beautiful day outside that completes a meal. Once you seat yourself, grab one of the paper menus lodged in with the condiments. The menus actually change frequently but there definitely are constants. Their sliced brisket sandwich has never, ever, in the 15+ times I've been there, let me down. By default, they are served with their homemade potato chips and even though I'm not a potato chip fan, I will usually finish every single chip. Sometimes I opt for fries (or steal a few from my friends' plates) and they are just right if you prefer the crisper type. What's fantastic about this place is that they love meat. Want brisket but also a hamburger? Don't worry, they have a burger with brisket added! Want a grilled cheese sandwich with something extra? Don't worry, they have one with a burger patty in it! Want some bacon? Don't worry, they have a sandwich loaded with two types of bacon on it! And if somehow, at the end of your large consumption of meats, you have room for dessert, grab some banana pudding. Served in a little Mason jar, it has just the right amount of bananas and vanilla wafers. Can't stuff your face anymore? Pay a buck extra and take the little jar with you. Dang, what's there not to love? (unless you're a vegetarian!) By the way, if you need a quick lunch, this isn't the way to go. This place gets busy and for good reason!

Went here a few weeks ago, somewhat late but the place was still full. We were visiting the area and this had good reviews. Very disappointed. Food came fast but it looked like it was thrown together. My daughters hamburger was not even fully cooked. My pulled pork sandwich was not bad, but nothing great. Very disappointed. Won't be back. Since my daughter is moving nearby hope this is not the best Denton has to offer.

I just went here for lunch today, and I was very disappointed and left angry. I haven't been in years, but was convinced to go today by friends who raved about the pulled pork sandwich. Our waiter paid absolutely no attention to us.. We ordered the pulled pork sandwiches and they came out with extremely soggy, inedible toast. We tried flagging him down to at least ask for some new toast and BBQ sauce, but he was nowhere in sight. None of the other servers or management even acknowledged us. We were so hungry we finally just decided to put the soggy bread mush to the side and eat the meat alone. By the time he came by, twenty minutes had already passed and we had eaten what we could. He took our food order, brought our food out, and only returned to ask about our checks. The meat was good, but I don't understand how the bread could have been so soggy and mushy right as soon as we got it unless it was sitting out for awhile before getting to us..

I moved to Denton from Dallas two months ago, and I was worried I wouldn't find the same caliber of restaurants I had in Dallas. I have to say that Rooster's is a great little spot. The staff was efficient and courteous, the service was fast, and the food was wonderful. I had a brisket burger, my partner had a PIT sandwich. We split them and shared. While I wanted to try the appetizers, I also wanted to be able to walk out the door without having my pants removed by the jaws of life, so this time we just did one entree each. It was the perfect amount of food, and wonderfully seasoned. The burger is thin but not overcooked. The brisket and sausage are wonderfully luscious without being overpowered by sauce or spice. The house potato chips are great, if a tad under-salted. I am not normally a fan of pickles on my burger, but their chopped pickles are great--not too sweet, very flavorful. I had one of their spiked lemonades, and my partner had a beer. We didn't have dessert, but I've heard they are great and I want to try one next time. The ambiance was cute, I loved the peanuts on the floor, the restroom was clean, the booths were spacious. All in all, we got our meal (two entrees and two cocktails) or $20, which was a great deal in our opinion. I will definitely go back.

I just really like this place. I can't go and not get the brisket queso...why do people not combine cheese and barbecue sauce more often? It's magic in your mouf. I also can't turn down over-the-top menu items such as the Chez Bubba Burger (truffled mayo, fried egg) and today I had the Big Ass Grilled Cheese Double Burger. It's really all in the title. There are two yummy grilled cheese sandwiches on Texas toast and between those, there are two burger patties (I actually added the truffled mayo to mine to up the class quotient) and more cheese. It is indeed difficult to get ones mouth around (it's basically the thickness of three sandwiches) but totally worth it. Their homemade potato chips are very yummy too. This place has solidly good food with some surprises. I also really like that it doesn't have a strong dudebro vibe, which cannot be said for many other places like it in town.
