Burgers
Burger or Hamburger is savored as the most desired fast food meal in the United States. A hamburger is basically a sandwich prepared by stuffing ground meat patty, generally beef, between two slices of a bun cut in half. Hamburger is also famous for its seasoning. Most popular condiments used in hamburgers in the United States are mustard, mayonnaise, and ketchup. Besides ground meat patty, hamburgers are also stuffed with lettuce, onions, tomato slices, pickles, and cheese.
Hamburgers are also categorized into two types in the United States. Fast food hamburger and individual hamburgers served at restaurants are two basic types of burgers served in the United States. The individual hamburgers served at restaurants are prepared using everything including lettuce, onion, tomato, and sliced pickles as well as melted cheese on the patty or crumbled on top. American restaurants also serve veggie burgers for those who don't relish meat. Cheeseburgers are also hot favorite in the United States.
McDonalds is the most popular fast food burger restaurant serving different types of burgers in the United States. On the other hand, there are several restaurants such as Burger King are famous for serving the best hamburgers in the United States. Most burger restaurants in the United States often serve hamburgers with French fries and other condiments. If you have a liking for burgers in the United States, then you won't be disappointed. Great food! Nice people. SLOW service. I've now been to this place twice and I've had the grid chicken sandwich and a burger! Both delicious!! My only complaints is it can get a little expensive, but what do I know, I'm poor, and the service is SO SLOW!!! Your entire table will have empty glasses and a full beard before you see your server again. When they emerge from their caves or second jobs, they're awesome and sweet, but then you won't see them for another 20 minutes. Literally. I counted. The atmosphere is cute. The drinks are delish. But I don't know that I'll be back.

The service here is terrible. They cannot handle groups at all. The food is ok, but not worth the excessive wait. Lastly, they charged me for an extra beer & then double charged me (two different amounts - so neither charge was correct).

Great atmosphere.....a warm, masculine, intimate bar area. The food was tasty. I had the pulled pork sandwich. It had lots of flavor and the slaw was creamy and perfect. I do think the price point is a little high. Burgers do not include fries or any side, and toppings (other than standard lettuce, tomato and onion) cost between $1-$3 each. With two sandwiches, one order of fries, and a beer, we spent around $40. That seems pricey for a dive spot.

I loved this place! The food is awesome and the build your own burger with a Veggie burger option was SO delicious! You can pick from numerous buns (including a gluten free option) your patty (including a tuna steak and a veggie burger) loads of fancy cheeses, toppings and spreads! We sat at the bar and had incredible service from Robert our bartender. He was super warm and attentive and just overall took great care of us. There was a awesome live band and this is the perfect venue for great food, live music and drinks! Outback is a Bocce ball court too- what else could you want?!

Came on a Saturday around 7 and it was not very busy. At first we were going to sit out front but then switched to the back where there were more people, taking the waiter with us. He must have just been working the front because he went missing. 1 beer took at least 15 minutes. When I went inside to ask it was waiting on him going flat. We got transferred to a waitress my friend had been served by before and she was on top of it. They brought us a bottle of champagne to apologize, probably leftover from NYE and taking up space. The food was really good but the waiter got my order completely wrong and I had to wait for a redo.

Great Byob- build your own burger! Fun for date night during the week on the patio. Good selection of craft beers and summer cocktails. Looking forward to an expanded menu in the future.
(4)Lauren B.
Delish! Loved the Sishito peppers. The build your own burger has an overwhelming amount of delicious sounding options but i don't think you could go wrong. everything we ordered was great. good happy hour prices too!
(5)Joel J.
First visit. Laid back patio atmosphere and inside is nice as well. Duck fat fries and burger were very very good. Had a beef patty with bacon, gruyere, caramelized onions and garlic mayo and chicken liver pate on the side. Definitely would come back. As others have mentioned, the Greenville Ave parking is a bear. Might be better off sucking it up and using a valet.
(4)Chase B.
Cute location, horrible service. The server was obviously not having it today. Took 2 hours from start to finish. The prices look reasonable but the portions are very small. Everyone ordered different and the only meal that was okay was the chicken and waffles. Def a no go.
(2)Elizabeth G.
Duck fat fries and burger. That's all. Seriously the 2 best things there. The burger can get a little pricey, basically you start off with the bun and make your own burger so it can be as expensive as you can get it. They do have gluten free buns which are suprisingly very good. The garlic on the duck fat fries are just delicious. If you've ever seen How I met your mother, I'd compare this burger to the burger that Marshall runs all over the city to find. It's just that good. Brix was our waitress and she was awesome! Try to get her if possible
(5)Amanda V.
Went there last night. The only thing that was enjoyable was the art on the walls. I ordered the veggie burger, which was house made. It was gross, deep fried and tasted like some kind of croquette. The condiments were way to expensive! I ended up paying 3 dollars for a tablespoon of ketchup. Please make fries that are veg friendly....
(1)Michael K.
Solid burgers. Really good craft cocktails. Bartenders are super nice and accommodating. Atmosphere is super laid back, yet upscale for a bar. Patio was great outfitted with bocce ball. Can't wait to visit this local gem again soon.
(4)Joshua R.
Not terribly impressed with the food. Interesting cocktails but they don't stand out when you have smythe and people's last stand close by as a comparison. The atmosphere of the place is what left me to give it a 3 star rating. Not sure if I will return.
(3)Marcus B.
Staff was nice but waited nearly an hour for food. We gave up and went somewhere else.
(1)Morgan H.
Came here for brunch and ordered chicken and waffles.... they drowned my waffles in so much syrup I couldn't eat them, they were soggy and falling apart. They did bring me new waffles once they saw but... they charged me extra for them! No thanks.

I used to work at the Vagabond. The owner treats his employees horribly and has stolen money from both his employees and investors. He stole money from my pay checks and I have yet to receive over $1,000 in credit card tips given to me by customers or my hourly pay. The Vagabond is not currently open and if it does open again, don't go.
(1)Steve S.
Now Closed, a victim of chronic bad service and ordinary food.
(1)Dave G.
There is an appetizer at Vagabond that is mind blowingly good. Get the meat mouse. Overlook the fact that the mouse has chicken livers in it. Delicious. Hats off the chef for trying something a bit out there and not caring if the patrons "get it." The cocktail menu is interesting, some classics and some re-interpreted classics. Bocce ball in the back patio. Those who knew this place in its previous incarnation, J. Pepe's, will find the pool filled in with sand. It is an odd, ball chucking sort of game with a "close enough counts" scoring system. Fun when tipsy.

This was my second time to Vagabond in hopes my first experience was just on a bad night. We headed there for brunch this am and happened to be the second table seated. The staff was super friendly and by the time our second carafe of mimosas was half gone we were beyond hungry. They took our food order after 20 mins of watching them run around. Then 40 mins later when our food had still not shown up they kept apologizing saying it was up next. 10 mins later and nothing. We decided to leave. Our server kept apologizing however they weren't busy - just seemed unorganized. We wont be seeing if third time is a charm.

Friends had been before so we went to grab dinner before concert at Granada. Good location to both. Place was not crazy busy. Menu is basically make your own burgers with a few other non burger options. We were ok with menu. Service was terrible. Waitress acknowledged it was her first day there but even after order things came out without the condiment and add on's we each ordered. Mushrooms, pickles, sauces, shoestring fries missing. Served on wrong roll. No fries. Eventually she brought out missing pieces but so late that we had to eat fast as missing concert. We arrived with an hour and 15 mins before concert. With add on's. One burger cost $20. Crazy. Friend asked about taking something off given all the errors and delays. She asked and took off the fries. Great.... Would not go back. Better service and burgers elsewhere.
(2)Lauren G.
Great food and atmosphere. However, the consistency of drinks were subpar and to be honest, the service was terribly bad, I'm not going lie. It took us over 20 minutes before a waitress came to take our order and she complained she was busy but there were 3 tables in the back (minimal inside). Plates should always be served after appetizers and when people ask twice for water, you know there is an issue. We were served the wrong food and practically scolded for correcting the order and I even saw an eye roll from our waitress . I love this place and the food is so amazing yet I feel the customer service is lacking to say the least. If you are bothered by people asking for plates or water maybe being a waitress isn't for you.

This was our first time here at vagabond. We read many reviews about this establishment before we went. We had high hopes when we got there that were soon deflated. We ordered the build your own burger which comes with lettuce tomato and onion only. Condiment was $1 each! Which turned our basic $10 hamburger into 15 dollar hamburger! What a JIP... We also ordered the duck fat fries which in previous reviews people raved about, I would say they sucked. They might have been really good if you didn't ruin them by putting chopped garlic all over them. After eating one bite of them all you taste for the rest of the meal and the rest of the night is garlic! I like garlic as much as the next person but come on! I advise to stay clear of this place at all costs, the parking was hectic the food was WAY overpriced for what you get. I don't see this establishment lasting longer than 6 months at the current rate. We were highly disappointed and will never go here again. I hate your reviews like this but I have to be honest if you deserve five stars I will definitely give you 5 stars but if you suck I will give you one or two stars accordingly. This was definitely a 1 or 2 star event. Which is a shame because this place has potential they just need to figure out a way to be profitable without charging you for basic condiments you can buy in the grocery store. Oh and one more thing don't expect salt and pepper shakers on your table they are not there. You have to request salt and/or pepper from your server which will come in a small stainless steel dish.

Wow, what a shame. I would never post a negative review if there were just one or two faults on the restaurant's part. But I can honestly say there were about 10 different issues we had from the moment we decided to go there. I was looking for a place to take my husband for his 40th birthday. One of our favorite musicians was in town, and I saw that he was playing at The Vagabond. As I usually do, I checked out the reviews and started to research the restaurant. I thought for sure I would need to call and get a reservation, but when I called the number giving on their FB page, their number was disconnected. I went to their website and retrieved their email address, but the email was rejected and sent back as well. (see picture). I absolutely cannot believe that they were unable to be reached, I thought they were closed down, but I knew that our favorite performer was scheduled to perform there so I decided to take the risk and show up anyway. Big mistake. When we arrived, the open sign was turned off, (this was at 6:30 PM on a Thursday night mind you) and a man sweeping the front porch just looked down with headphones in his ears and did not even acknowledge us. I thought something was wrong and they were closed. But, on our own, we found the door and walked in. We walked in, to several servers in disarray, they all looked very stressed, and not one person acknowledged us, again. Finally a hostess hurriedly came up and asked "do you need a table?". We said yes, and she sat us at a table by the stage. Several of the other tables had papers laying all over them, it absolutely looks like they had just opened. Immediately a waitress hurried over to us and told us we could not sit there, because we did not have a reservation. I told her that their contact information did not work, and she said we were supposed to go through their Facebook page, who would've known! So, luckily we took the last two seats at the bar. The night just went downhill from there. The service was extremely slow, & not friendly. (keep in mind we were incredibly pleasant in spite of all the problems, and had smiles on our faces, and still were not met with the same response) We ordered the duck fat fries with bacon and cheese, and they were literally burned black, while the bacon came in long strips on top of the fries. I was not sure how we were supposed to eat that. So we didn't. I ordered the chicken sandwich, my husband pulled pork, and we would've been much better off going to Whataburger! It was incredibly disappointing. Our tab was over $100, we still tipped 30%, and will never go back. I went here expecting a neighborhood friendly bar, who won awards for D Magazine for their food, and incredible cocktails, and it literally was worse than anything you could ever imagine.

Overall a quality spot with great servers. The craft cocktails are good and the brunch special on the weekend is worth trying. There is a bocce ball court in the back with a large patio. The craft cocktail menu is good and there is a good selection of local Texas beer in bottles. Parking is limited but there are spots in the are to the west. *The shishido peppers are great. Worth a visit
(5)Diana D.
Cutting to the chase here. The duck fat fries are awesome, and almost worth the lousy service. The seared tuna salad was huge, but the tuna tasted a bit old and fishy...not great. The roasted nuts were overpriced for what you got. Although they were served warm, they were not well seasoned. If the back is full of bocce ball players, expect service to be slow.
(2)Ryan L.
My wife and I (and dog) stopped by on a slow Tues evening for a beer and burger on the front patio. Since there were just a handful of customers, service was friendly and attentive. They have a decent selection of beers, mostly local / TX, though all in bottles / cans -- no drafts. The burger selection is all "build your own", leaving you to choose your bun, meat (burger, chicken, tuna), cheese, sauce, and toppings. The "base" burger is $10 and includes lettuce, tomato, red onion. Every additional topping/sauce is $1. This could make for a very expensive burger -- I would like to see them offer less exotic, basic toppings gratis (e.g. - can I get some regular pickles, ketchup, and mustard without a $3 up charge?). Despite the $13/$14 price, the burger was quite good: thick patty, well seasoned, with quality ingredients. We also had the duck fat steak fries. I like duck fat fries because they're much richer. They're tossed in a chimichurri-style seasoning and served with regular ketchup. Quite good. Overall, I like Vagabond. I'd go back to enjoy the dog-friendly patio and maybe play some bocce ball (it's bittersweet that the swimming pool has been filled-in to accommodate the bocce court). Welcome (back) to the neighborhood!

I gave this place 1 star. I went here with a group of ten for a Saturday brunch the place was relatively empty and the service was almost non existent. The wait staff seemed more interested in hanging out with each other than attending to customers. We had to wait about 15 minutes for drink orders to be taken we actually had to ask to have our order taken. We also had to request our check after waiting for about 45 minutes. Once requested we had to wait another thirty for the check to be split. And once we actually received the checks we had to take the cards to the waitress because she was so slow. The food was good but nothing special that sets it apart from any other brunch spot. The poor service would prevent me from coming back here anytime soon or wen recommending this place to anyone. Will not be back here. There are many other brunch places that are excited to have paying customers and will who will be attentive to patrons.

I've noticed some negative reviews about service and I have no idea why. Our server Erin was spot on with everything! Came in last week for the first time with a friend. The duck fat fries are a must and my friend chicken sandwich was phenomenal. Plus, their cocktail menu is amazing. Erin recommend the old fashioned for me and hydro tonic for my friend--both delicious. We will definitely be back and ask for Erin because she totally rocked it!
(5)Shardá T.
Really really really great food. I've had a burger with the delicious bacon jam on it and garlic mayo, talk about YUMMMY!! The fried chicken sandwich is to die for as well! The service can be really slow though. This is our second time coming here and it's the same service as last time. Pretty decent wait staff but just slow and the place isn't that big. The drinks are stupid delicious and strong. But let me add that the prices may be a tad bit high for it to be a pub. At the same time it's pretty worth it considering the quality. Keep in mind I've written this review while waiting for her to come back, and waiting, waiting.... still waiting.

Found out about this place on Urban Daddy. Yet another new restaurant in hipster lower Greenville, like Blind Butcher and HG Supply. All of these new restaurants popping up in the area are always hustling and bustling and have accredited owners and chefs, so I have to try them out...I just always have high expectations. I had high expectations for Vagabond as well, but they were not met. The place was rather empty for a new restaurant and dinner-time, granted it is more of a gastropub, so I hope it sees a bigger crowd on Friday and Saturday. The bocce ball court in the back is cute, I would come back again on a nicer day to play. We started with the roasted nuts (not impressed; the marinade was a sweet/salty mix, like honey roasted, but I just didn't like it), fried green tomato (whatever they were fried in were not good, rather than crispy crumbs, it was like a dough, but it had become cold once they served it, and it was just a little too cake-y; the avocado remulade it came with was also not that good), and the shishito peppers (customary to an aperitif at sushi restaurants, I love these things, but these were coated in the garlic aioli which was just too heavy and fatty for an appetizer; these would be better served as a side). We put in our orders for burgers; there were 6 of us. I think it took at least 45 minutes to an hour to get our meals out. Thankfully we weren't starving at that point due to the appetizers, but I was ready for my burger! Two of my colleagues asked for their bun type and meat, and then left the rest to the chef. The chef added bacon to the burger, nice touch, but there was so much to top your burger with that the chef could've done more. One got the challah bun, which is similar to brioche. It looked good. I got the wheat bun, veggie patty, fried jalapenos, fried egg (this is a must for me on burgers!), cheddar cheese (you know it's good if it's a white cheddar; cheese is not supposed to be yellow/orange), avocado, and black truffle aioli. They put the fried jalapenos on the side; I would've rather had them on my burger. Same with the black truffle aioli; I would have rather had it as a spread on my burger rather than on the side. The black truffle aioli, housemade, was good, but flavor wasn't that strong. Maybe some more black truffle next time? The burger, which also came with lettuce, tomato, and red onions, was a good portion, and I ate mine right up. It was good, really good, but not great. The fries were also steak-cut and deep fried, seasoned with sea salt, I presume, and parsley, I also presume. They were good, but just too greasy that a couple were more than enough. Too full for dessert, but I am a huge fan of bread pudding, so I might be back for that. As for the burger, I've had better, and all the additions get to be expensive!
(3)Tammie M.
Cool venue. Service was slow but they were nice. Offered buckets of beer but bud light wasn't chilled. My wine wasn't chilled. No jalepeno jelly. The chicken tastes like fish. Bread was great.
(2)Sally C.
What a nifty little gem of a bar. It's easy to miss it, kinda gets lost among the more flashy, new options along the rapidly evolving Greenville Ave. We enjoyed the Bocce court on a lazy late Sunday morning, had some solid food, sampled some excellent cocktails. All in all a terrific first experience, can't wait to go back. PS-- love the little trademark of the cheezy/dated lamps sprinkled around the place. Hope you continue to add to the collection. They are infinitely photographable & a nice homey, clever touch.

Three words: Duck. Fat. Fries... Oh, and the burgers are fantastic, too... Finally got down here last night, and we started with said fries, along with the grilled pepper appetizer. Happily, the peppers came with a garlic mayo dip that also happened to go REALLY well with the fries. The peppers were great, don't get me wrong, but HOLY CRAP the fries were awesome - so crispy on the outside, so tender on the inside. They're like magic. If they ever decided to throw some cheese and bacon on top of these things, I would probably just lose my mind. I got a burger with smoked gouda, grilled jalapenos, and the garlic mayo. It was perfectly medium rare just like I ordered. The grilled challah bun was really nice - soaking up burger juices without breaking down. I'd have to say that this might be the best burger I've tried lately. I'll have to go back to Maple & Motor and Kenny's just to double check, though. Drinks? Yes, they have them. And they make some very good ones - very clever and very tasty. I'm starting to get on board with all this crazy mixology stuff. Broadening my horizons and whatnot. Service? Very friendly and attentive, yet laid back. The whole night was just about spot-on. I will definitely be back soon...
(5)Robin S.
Wish I came here when it wasn't so cold out to play some Bocce, but other than that - zero complaints. Great beer, the duck fat fries were delicious and they had some good live music. Small quaint place that is really cool.
(5)Hector S.
You have to try the Pork wings! Great bar food with amazing drinks. Live music Wednesdays and thursdays. I can't ask for more!

I wish I could give VagaBond ZERO stars. I had a truly awful dining experience this past Saturday for brunch. I am writing this review to forewarn others that they should think twice before eating here. I arrived with a group of 5 at around 12:45 in the afternoon. We sat down outside and waited for our waitress to come around. After waiting for 15 minutes we decided to ask the bartender to send out a waitress. Unfortunately the incredibly rude woman at the bar was our waitress. She told my close friend that she was aware that we were there and that she would get to us shortly. She arrived 15 minutes later just to get our DRINK ORDERS. It is now 1:20pm and we are waiting for our drinks. They come around 1:30pm (we have been here for 45 minutes and still haven't ordered food). When the waitress finally decided to get our food order, she was rude and unaware of anything on the menu. We basically just guessed as to what we wanted and decided to drink our drinks. Around 2:15pm, our food finally comes out. I had ordered chicken and waffles. It was a poor decision. The chicken was so fatty it was inedible, It didn't even look like chicken and I had to send it back. I told the manager and he quickly brought out another meal to me (shockingly). I was too put off to eat my meal though. My friends and I left shortly after. This restaurant has HORRENDOUS service and portly made food. And to top it all off its pretty pricey. I can not say that I will ever recommend this place to friends or family. I will most definitely never go back here. Too to owners/managers - hire new wait staff. I have never in my life been so put off by a waitress. Your waitress this Saturday (11/8) was rude, inconsiderate, most likely hungover by her appearance/attitude, and immature (locking and slamming the back door). She is 85% I'll never be back there. Should have had my meal comp'd Signed, Dillon the HANGRY bruncher

Good burger, but expensive. Burger, fries, two beers = $35. Asked for pickled green tomatoes and received fried. I wish now I would've said something as the fried green tomatoes were nothing to write home about. The fries are huge chunks of fried potatoes; I prefer thinner crunchier fries. Good atmosphere, good local beer choices, attentive bartender, but I'll skip the fries next time and will bring a friend to help split the bill.
(3)Laura A.
Really wanted to like this place.... so far it's taken 10 minutes for anyone to acknowledge my existence and then she came over and told me it will be $5 for the show. Ummm ok so why does your website say free?! Don't be fooled by the website, yelpers. $5 on Wednesday and $10 on Thursday.
(3)Alexis D.
I wanted to try the food since coming in for drinks a while back, and it was super delicious. We went for Brunch on sat - there is a different brunch menu on sat and sundays. We had the steak salad and burger. They were both cooked to perfection. I don't always eat meat, but when I do it will be this burger. Can't wait to come back for dinner some time. Service has been great every time we have come. Happy that vagabond is here.
(5)Jennifer S.
Another cool place on Lower Greenville! We stopped in for a drink and felt right at home. Great space with excellent people watching potential, nice bartenders and good drinks too.
(4)Lauren J.
Breath of fresh air. This is my 2nd time here, I came in last night. Drinks are great, food is great. Shout out to Kenneth - the mixologist and Brisk our server great service.
(5)Andrew M.
Vagabond had great burgers, good beer selection, AMAZING duck fat fries, cool atmosphere/music, and a nice patio out back. Maybe this makes me too picky, but it'd be nice if they had draught beer instead of all bottles and cans. All-in-all, a good place to go to catch up with some friends.
(4)Brittany G.
This place might arguably have my new favorite burger. The amount of eccentric toppings you can order will far exceed your expectations, but even if you were to just get a 'plain' burger you would love it. If fancy cocktails are your thing then I'm sure you'll find something you've never had. I had multiple different beers although my only complaint is that they are all bottled. We played multiple games of bocce ball out back and that was a nice change from the usual horseshoes. Will definitely be back! Oh and if you leave here without trying the truffle aoli you're doing it all wrong :)
(5)J T.
Solid place. Burgers were very good (but can get expensive if you don't control the additions). The fried chicken sandwich was excellent, as was the 1-month, barrel-aged old-fashioned. Atmosphere is nice with the bocce court out back. Great place to spend a few hours.
(4)Phil F.
I never visited J. Pepe's but since moving to the area we've been waiting for Vagabond to open and it did not disappoint. The cocktail list was expansive, whiskey-heavy, and very reasonably priced. Everyone enjoyed the food despite the limited menu. I can recommend the fried chicken sandwich, but haven't tried the burger yet. I hear the veggie burger is fantastic. Great decorations, a nice server, and the way the inner restaurant opens to the front deck were all highlights as well. I haven't been out back yet, but walking by it looks very nice. I imagine the bocce ball court will see more action than the little pool did. My understanding is that there will be some great live music here, looking forward to that.

I had my birthday at Vagabond last weekend and had a great time. The bar has the potential to be one of my favs but for a few drawbacks. Atmosphere: Our first impression was really positive. It's a very relaxed atmosphere, from the decor, to the music, to the misters blowing at full steam on the awesome "back yard" patio. It felt like the kinda place I would like to come back to. Kudos to the owners for taking an old swimming pool, filling it with sand, and making it a Bocce Ball surface. The bocce definitely added to the night's festivities. Service: Our waitress was friendly and helpful, although we had to order drinks from the bar a few times. In all fairness, we were a large group and maybe a little impatient.Otherwise, we were well taken care of. Food: The food was pretty good, definitely better than most bars, although as some have noted, it could be considered it a little pricey. I didn't have a burger, but they started in the $10 range with add-ons that could bump that price up and no sides. I will say they looked like they were worth the price of admission. Drinks: The major drawback for me was the beer situation. They don't have draft beer, which is fine, but their bottles average in the $6 or $7 range. That's at least a dollar too high in my opinion. If you are a cocktail lover, or going to Vagabond for 1 or 2 drinks, it probably won't matter. Unfortunately, we were there for the long-haul and our bill was pretty hefty as a result. Overall, if you are looking for a relaxing place to kick back and have a few drinks and a nibble, I would recommend Vagabond. If you are looking for a place where you get more bang for your buck, steer clear.

I should have done a more thorough review of yelp prior to suggesting we try Brunch at Vagabond. In short, it was a really disappointing experience for everyone at the table. I could list specifics of each thing that led to my one star rating (there were plenty), but what it really boiled down to was an overall lack of service and care from the people that were working there. That lack of care was manifested in both the quality of the food served and the overall service provided to my group. To be clear, I really wanted to like this place, its got great ambience the building and by all accounts they book some solid shows in the evening. It's close to my house and office as well . However, the foul taste that was left in my mouth from brunch (most notably the ice cold sausage gravy paired with dull biscuit served in place of waffles that could no longer be made that day to accompany the so-so fried chicken) will certainly give me pause before trying this place out at night. There are just way too many other great brunch places in East Dallas for this place to be considered any sort of option for me.

Went here for brunch yesterday after reading a Zagat article that claimed Vagabond had one of the top 10 brunches in Dallas. It should have said it was one of the 10 WORST brunches in Dallas. The people I was with said the food was OK, but I wouldn't know because they never brought my food out. The waitress kept forgetting to serve me and said another waitress grabbed my plate. She then proceeded to give me a check and expected me to pay when I didn't get any food! A couple people ordered eggs Benedict florentine. Instead of putting spinach on it (as it said on the menu and how any dish florentine should be) they put a leaf of romaine lettuce on it. Who is this chef?! They also never bussed any of the tables. There were empty tables full of dishes and glasses. Trashy and amateur! Do yourself a favor and don't waste your time on this place.

5 stars for the old fashion, service, ambience, and the patio. 3 stars for the charcuterie plate. I have heard the food is delicious here but the charcuterie plate is all we had and we were not impressed. I think it was close to $15 and reminded us of a meat and cheese plate we would find at a local grocery store. We sat on the back patio and we were surprised to be greeted by what appeared to be the official Dallas bocce league! Was a cool environment and the patio is a great place to enjoy a few drinks. I got the old fashioned (their take on it) and it was delicious. The server was also very friendly and we even joked that he blended in so well with the patrons that he could have just been someone hanging out and bringing people drinks! All in all the patio and service will have me come back to try more items. Definitely would recommend steering away from the charcuterie.

Buyer beware - I ordered the honey-glazed nuts, listed as $4 on the menu. But when the check came, the nuts were $7, and at first my protest was greeted with a shrug and "yeah, they haven't updated the menu yet with the new price." She ended up applying a discount so that it came down to $4.55, but I still ended up paying more than the advertised price without being told ahead of time. And the nuts ended up being nothing great anyways, about a cup of sugar in the dish. But they did (somewhat) fix the issue for me, I just hope they don't get anyone else with this mistake.

Brunch--because Mimosa. Grilled bacon cheese Benedict--or some such name, either way, I could have eaten two of them. It's delicious. I wish it cost a little less but I'm sure you are paying the bill for them having to fill in the pool out back. I've always loved this location. And I'm glad there's a new good place to eat. Down side is the prices are a smidge too high. Service was good and parking was plentiful on Saturday morning.

This place was decent. Came here on a Friday night during hh. I got the red blend wine for $6, which was pretty good and my boyfriend got the old fashioned on HH for $5 and he said he wasn't very impressed. However, my friend got the moscow mule, and said it was one of the best she's ever had. The indoor area was a little divey, but cozy. The outdoor areas looked pretty fun for when the weather is decent. We'll likely try it out when we can sit outside.

Food is wonderful. Service is awful. Be prepared to wait forever for drinks and food. No one seemed to hustle and/or keep our table in the loop of the delays. It was a painful long brunch. The food is really amazing, though.

Though we were all stoked for what looked to be a great brunch, we failed miserably in our decision to eat here. First off, the service was awful. We waited 15 minutes to just have them get our drink order, then another 10 before they came back for our food. The one thing I was looking forward to eating, they didn't have. Apparently they only know how to cook frittatas in a frittata oven, and it was broken. So. What I did order (and another person at my table) came out cold and over cooked. The bacon grilled cheese with poached eggs would've been awesome--if my sandwich wasn't so hard that I couldn't but into it AND if the eggs were poached, not hard boiled. The waitress never came back after she delivered our first round of drinks. She also didn't deliver the food, so we waited another 30 minutes before we finally complained to the manager. He comped us a carafe of mimosas which was nice. But the service was so terrible that even the table that got there AFTER us left because the waitress forgot them too. It's not a huge place and she was in no hurry, so no one felt too sorry for her. The manager, however, was rushing around filling water glasses while she was chatting with the bartender. Maybe consider upping the level of the staff, because this could have been way better! I'll consider trying it again, but this was a really sour first taste in my mouth.

I visited Vagabond recently with some friends for a birthday brunch. I was the first one in, and I asked for an inside table for 10. The manager was very accommodating, and got some tables together for all of us to sit down. The inside was cozy, and I dug the vintage lamps, too. Everyone finally arrived, and we started ordering mimosas. It took a little bit for drinks to arrive, but we were so busy talking and laughing, that we didn't notice much. When just about everyone arrived, we ordered food. By far, the most popular dish at the table was the chicken and waffles. I had never had it before, and I figured, "Why not?" Probably about 15 minutes later, the food started coming out. My mouth was watering, and the presentation really helped. My chicken and waffles were on a bed of cheesy polenta (YUM!), and were topped with bee pollen and green onions. Seriously, it looked amazing, and it tasted even better than it looked. I ate every bite with gusto. Generally speaking, the entire table was really happy with their food, which was great! The one and only tough part was tabbing out. Unfortunately, by the time we were all ready to pay and leave, the place was hopping, and there were only three people (the manager being one of them) that I saw trying to take care of all the tables ordering food, inside and outside. It looked like they were really shorthanded. My friend who sat next to me waited a long time for his tab, and looked annoyed. Still, the wait staff was pleasant, the manager was very nice, and the food and drinks were delish. I enjoyed my experience at Vagabond, and I hope to return soon!

So many misters and fans on both the front and rear patio make this a place to which I may flock when it's crazy hot out and I want to sit outside. The bartender was cute and friendly, and seemed to be a talented mixologist too. I can't really comment on that as I ordered a well drink. The price tag for it was a bit steep for a Tuesday night (almost $5). The fancier mixed drinks will run you about $10, so be ready to lay down some $$. They offer a food menu that looked pretty great, especially the grilled cheese, but I was already filled to the gills with hummus from next door. Definitely worth a stop if you're looking for a semi-fancy but uncrowded spot to relax without a huge crowd on a weeknight!

Great food and atmosphere. Came tonight and ordered a beef burger on challah with cheddar and the cilantro and jalapeño ranch, and the duck fat fries. I ate every last bite of my burger- it was delicious and cooked a perfect medium. Definitely better than your average burger in Dallas. They have a great beer and cocktail selection, and I love the divey atmosphere. I really like what they've done with this space (previously occupied by J. Pepe's). This place is just a little overpriced though in my opinion. Between two people, we ordered two burgers, one order of fries, two beers and a glass of wine, and our tab was $63 including tip. The food is without a doubt good quality, and I understand that you get what you pay for. That being said, come here prepared to drop some cash.

The drinks were really good, but the food was average. Seemed too greasy for this kind of place. I don't think anyone in our group of four finished their food.

1 star for the food. 1 additional star for the laugh out loud moments my family had due to the terrible service. This was Mother's Day brunch. Kids were served a half glass of Dr Pepper bc they were out. If you have kids, you know immediately why half a glass of anything is a problem. (Or if you are a person who likes a whole glass of any beverage.) Moments later we were watching a staff member run in from across the street with a case of Dr. Pepper. Kid's empty drink glass was taken away with no refill offered. So we asked for additional Dr Pepper and were told they were out. Then, a miracle happened and a WHOLE CAN of Dr Pepper arrived with a glass of ice. The waitress told us some calamity happened in the kitchen so only 1 chicken and waffles would be served. Ooh, tell me more of this calamity ! ( sadly, no explanation of the calamity was given .) Would we like to have chicken and biscuits instead ? The chicken and waffles was served dripping with the honey my son had asked not to have. So, honey is apparently not optional. The chicken and biscuits came with what looked like a dog food bowl of ice cold sage gravy. I didn't even realize that wonderful culinary gem was going to be served ! My husband asked for a side of mayo. The waitress returned with a a side of syrup. Who knew those two items could substitute for one another ? My daughter ordered poached eggs and bacon. Surprise ! Peppered fried eggs and limp bacon. Again, if you have kids, you understand why pepper is not welcome in their food. (Or if you are a person who dislikes pepper). When I finished laughing at how many things were wrong with the order, we were given the bill. Oops. We were charged for 2 orders of breakfast potatoes instead of 1. The waitress wanted to clarify if we had a bowl ( dog food bowl ?) or a plate of potatoes. Not really sure why, because 1 order is still one order. So, if you enjoy a mystery brunch, and don't mind knowing what may or may not end up on your table ( or your bill), bring your sense of humor and give this place a try. Or, you could try one of the dozen other actual great brunch places in East Dallas.

I really wish I had gotten to try the food, but seeing as it took 10 minutes to get acknowledged by a server, and another 15 minutes to get water, we left. Hopefully the quality of service improves.

Don't think I will be back here to eat (Burger was expensive and small and not very great), but will be back for drinks! Atmosphere inside is cozy and awesome patio out back. Service is friendly and attentive.
(3)Keith L.
I had Saturday brunch here. Though some of the other dishes looked much better, the chicken and waffles dish was terrible. The waffles were dropped on top the cheese polenta, and the honey (in lieu of syrup) was all over the polenta - not so much the waffles. The waffles themselves weren't so great, either, like poorly cooked instant mix. The polenta was overcooked and complete mush. And the chicken was likely frozen tenders, also overcooked. Then there's the service... Despite being mostly empty, getting attention was a challenge. I was also charged for a more expensive beer than the one I was drinking. The place seems like a fun nighttime hangout, but I'm not sure I want to find out.

A great new neighborhood spot! The portion of Greenville near McCommas is really shaping up nicely! I went by the Vagabond (which sits in the location of the former J Pepes) to grab a drink and a starter before heading off to another restaurant for dinner. It was a very nice experience. First of all, I love the new decor -- it's cool and hip without being overly pretentious. For me, a place like this has to walk a fine line between something the weekend crowd will like and a place that the neighborhood crowd will return to night after night. I really like the bocce ball / sand pit where the swimming pool used to be. The other interior touches are classy too -- It's a great mix between somewhere you can hang out with some friends and someplace you wouldn't be ashamed to take a date or a business colleague. Very much like the Sundown across the street in that respect. I had a Vagabond Mule (their twist on a Moscow Mule): it was well crafted and refreshing. The ginger beer makes a good mule, and these guys did not skimp -- good high quality ingredients. My companion had a grapefruit fizz and that was also good. We ordered and enjoyed some flash fried Shishito peppers with a nice creamy aioli dipping sauce. Yummy! They also had a really strong craft beer menu, and I also noticed a guy sitting behind me enjoying Miller Lite in a retro can... so I think they've got a selection of hip macro-brews also... either that or he picked it up at the 7-11 across the street! I didn't have a hamburger -- judging from the menu they looked good, but also looked very expensive ($12 or more). I'll return, try one and update the review. For that amount of money, it needs to be quite a strong burger. In fact, the generally stiff pricing is one of the only things that is keeping this place from 5 stars in my book. However, it's still definitely worth the price. Overall though, a great place, good drinks, good atmosphere and a great addition to the M-street neighborhood!

This place is great on all fronts! The appetizers are unique and flavorful. I think I got one of their burgers for dinner, which was juicy and delicious. I like their patio area and they allow dogs. I'll be returning!

Food was delish....but everything was tainted by the ridiculously bad service. I was even warned before I went and thought it might be a fluke...but this was laughable...until we were on hour 3 of our meal and I wasn't laughing anymore.

-Love- this place. If you like cocktails, the bartenders definitely know their stuff. They make a proper Mad Men style Old Fashioned (whiskey forward, not a bunch of fruit and soda water like other places). Food is very good and service is friendly. Their

Great burgers and great atmosphere out back. Came with my girlfriend and a few friends looking for something different. They had bocci ball in the back so we commenced to play. We all had the duck fat fries for an appetizer and immediately ordered another for dinner. We each customized our own burger and got real creative. I ended up having a burger with bacon, blue cheese and chimichurra. Phenomenal. Definitely should seek this place out in future. My only gripe like most places in upper Greenville is parking. But what can you do.

My experience was a joke in all honesty. I went to brunch somewhat late this weekend, little before 1 or so. My girlfriend and I were 2 of probably 15-16 people there at the time. We were there 15-20 mins before being waited on. We did finally order, and the 'waiter' came by twice and told us our food would be out soon during the next 40 mins. When I asked at the end of that 40 mins, "how much longer?" The 'waiter' responded by saying there was a backup in the kitchen and it would be "maybe, probably" 10 more mins. Yeah, right. I canceled the order, and a few guys next to us had arrived maybe 10 mins earlier. I told them not to hold their breath, as I noticed even they hadn't ordered yet. Turns out those guys included the owner and his two friends. Even the owner couldn't get decent service in this place. After the owner found out, instead of telling me to sit tight, he'd take care of it or something. He just ran straight back to the kitchen/employees to get onto them. Like I said, joke. Zero stars if possible.

I wanted to love this place as a relatively new addition to the local scene, but after waiting for nearly an hour for our food (we were the only table of patrons when we ordered) we asked Solomon to cancel our order and we left the restaurant. The staff was very friendly, but the kitchen operation is killing this business.

Update: not only was the service slow & the food terrible, but they overcharged my card! Yuck!

Overall a pretty to very good experience. Started with their old fashion at the bar. Solid A. Not A+ but not A- either. Not the best, but much better than the worst. Got the burger with gruyere, beef tongue pastrami, and black truffle aioli cooked medium rare. It was incredibly flavorful and perfectly cooked. When I first saw it I thought I would be disappointed given the price and size compared with the Grape's burger down the street but it didn't disappoint. Not in the least. Also had a vieux carre, one of my favorite drinks, which was executed to perfection. The only disappointment of the evening was when the bill came and I was overcharged for my burger by $2. We were running late so I didn't make a fuss, but come on, it's not my job to make sure my food is priced correctly. Other than that I had a great time.

Great food, great drinks, great atmosphere and I can walk here from my house! Staff was all really kind and they brought my dog water- always a plus!
(5)Grace S.
Wayyy better than J Pepe's ever was, and they filled in the pool with a bocce court. The cocktail list is pretty interesting. Burgers are really great. Probably the best I've had in Dallas so far (but I haven't tried The Grape yet). The atmosphere was fun too! Kind of saloon meets speakeasy.

Those burgers and duck fat fries, yes please every time, very tasty was awesome pricing. The chicken sandwich is also amazing!
(5)Melissa G.
This place is seriously doomed if they don't figure out their service issues. I have been here twice...both times the service was so slow...I'm talking 30 minutes to get s drink...not once but every time. It took our group of 5...3 hours to complete dinner...not bc we wanted to stay that long but bc of the service. Once we asked for our check...it took 42 minutes just to receive the check..,and then the waitress AND manager couldn't figure out how to split the bill 5 ways. The food WAS good...but the experience was terrible both times. In addition, a girlfriend checked her credit card online today...and was charged twice...so she now has to resolve that with the restaurant. They were not busy...so honestly the service delays were inexcusable. It's unfortunate. I hope they figure out the service or I can't imagine anyone will frequent this place. Do not go unless you have a lot of extra time and extreme patience.

The bread pudding is wickedly delicious. The drinks were a bit pricy, but tasty. Our server was having an off day, but very friendly. They seemed welcoming. I think they'll do well. Will come back and try the food next time.
(4)Megan B.
The renovations look great; glad to see that the dank pool has been replaced with a bocce court. The vintage cocktails were very tasty; we tried the Old Fashioned and a few other whiskey drinks - delish. My husband said the chicken sandwich was one of the best he's ever had. As a vegetarian, I appreciated that they were able to make the fries sans duck fat, but more veggie options would have been nice. I really enjoyed the atmosphere (music selection was great and they kept the doors open creating a nice breeze inside). I look forward to going back!
(5)Charles S.
very nice waitress and and easy going atmosphere. but the food (burger in our case) was way over cooked. we asked for med-rare and it was WELL done. however, and in their defense, it was decent despite the inattention to that detail. can't in good conscience give it better than three stars. but the duck fat fries were damned good. better than the burger. seemed to be lacking in atmosphere but we did not make it inside, so am just judging the bocce area. **biggest complaint would be that it's over-priced. if you're going to have a $13 burger ($10 plus a couple of add-ons) that comes with nada, you better be as good as "the grape" down the street. and this burger doesn't hold a candle...not even in the ball park.
(3)Chad A.
The burger was very good. Over priced but good. Drinks were made with a heavy pour. The fries were great. Bocce ball court on the patio made for a great night after dinner.
(4)Mary D.
At $13 and no fries with it, the $13 fried chicken sandwich was pricey, but oh my goodness, I cannot get it out of my head. The crunchy coating was perfect, maybe best I've had anywhere, but the piece de resistance was the little schmear of jalapeno jelly, which makes a little sweet, with a little pepper bite, with a little salty chicken crunch. They have really nailed the chicken sandwich. Atmosphere and service is so-so, but I'll be back again for another one of those chicken sandwiches.
(3)Jana T.
My husband and I just had our second meal at Vagabond. Really, really good food. Wonderful cocktail. Excellent pulled pork sandwich. Great service. This place is becoming a favorite!
