Awesome, great place to film a horror movie!

Lee Harvey's is basically a house converted into a bar. Big yard with picnic tables and bon fires, all guarded by a sweet pit bull named Ruby. But the inside is tiny. There are 3 booths and 18 bar stools, all of which fill up quickly, so be prepared to sit outside and enjoy a fabulous view of the ghetto. (Word to the wise, DO NOT leave your car there overnight. Despite the police cars left there as a decoy, my car was broken into.) There is alot of charm to this place. The women's bathroom still has the original bathtub, complete with shower curtain. But since its a single seater, be prepared to wait in line. They serve cheap beer, the only place I've seen that sells bottles of high life and tecate in a can, and they give it to you with a teeny little juice glass that you can drink it out of. The kitchen, AKA Ruby's grill, serves burgers as big as your head! All in all, a great bar and a really fun place to drink a high life.

I'm pretty sure we're the only place in America that has a bar named after a guy who assassinated a president! That said I've become a huge fan in pretty short order. I was really nervous the first time we went because of where its at and I would say thats the only bad thing about it. One could easily get turned around after a hard night of the sauce and end up in the bad part of town. Its basically a house with a chain link fence converted into a bar. No cover and the parking can get interesting but you don't have to pay so who can complain? The outside of the bar has picnic tables and a firepit, and then a porch where the band plays. The live music always attracts me like a bug to a zapper. The times I've gone they had a cover band playing which is a-ok. Inside the bar its not very roomy so you're better off outside. I never really pay much attention to drink specials so I'm no help there and I've never had their food but I hear its pretty damn tasty. All in all its a different kinda place, one that you must experience for yourself!

This place is really one of a kind. It's pretty special. Happened to be in town with family and we went to Lee Harvey's to catch the Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear. I'm so glad that the event was held there because otherwise, I probably would have never had the experience. The place has a vibe, the staff is awesome, the prices are right, and the food is great. I did have an issue with my order getting lost (I think it' probably due to the 200 other people ordering at the same time) but, the staff quickly took care of it. The beers are cheap, the burgers and onion rings some of the best i've had in a while, and it's such a chill place. It was a beautiful sunny day and the outdoor area was a great place to sit and chat.

I don't think that I've ever had a bad time here...everytime that I go, the service is great and the people are friendly. I love going in on Monday night for $1 tacos! The variation of bands that they have play on Friday/Saturday nights are either really good or very entertaining (Graceland Ninjas). The crowd turn-outs are always good on the weekends, but I love going on Sunday nights, when there is next to no one there and just enjoying the great patio (and the bartenders humor).

Really not much to add to the hundreds of reviews. This is my kind of watering hole. Great to belly up to the bar, huge patio for outdoor weather, live music at times, and yummy food. You don't have to be a regular to be welcome, just don't be a douche.

Yesterday was a long day, and finally having a night off all I wanted to do was find someplace to disappear in to with my girl, have a burger and few PBRs. Lee Harvey's. Being mid-week it was *extremely* chill with virtually no douchery present, except for maybe me... Sat outside with Lainey and simply had chance to relax in a place that feels a bit more like a Colorado dive bar than Dallas. Ice cold Pabst, burgers that tasted like they were grilled outside in your backyard on Memorial Day, with a fire raging in one of the chimneas. It was *exactly* what I needed. On a side note, I chuckled when I read Ryan B's review about the oddity of the inclusion of some of their more upscale offerings. I agree with him!

Damn, Lee Harvey's, you did it again. I really do love you. Perfect for a chilly night, the fire pits kept me warm, the cold cheap beers kept me drunk, the live music kept me happy and the DELICIOUS burgers, grilled cheese, and onion rings kept me full. I love that I can get anyone in my group of friends to meet me here, whether it be my fashionable friends who insist on wearing heels in the gravel, or my too cool for school friends who would rather chop off their arms than be caught dead anywhere "Dallas-y". At Lee Harveys, we all harmonize together. Best new addition? The DART rail red line exits at Cedars road, which is literally a 3 minute walk away form this place if you are brave and don't feel like driving. It runs til 1am. We took it there and it was a breeze!

I have been to Lee Harvey's numerous times and every time I love it a little more. A few weeks ago I was their Facebook Friend of the Day and went in to claim my free entree & drink. Last night I met some friends their for Monday night $1 Taco night. I love being outside near the fire pits and the un-douchey feel of Lee Harvey's...granted it was a week night. On the weekends it is more crowded and you get a more diverse group of people. The beers are reasonably priced...you can get a Schlitz for $2. Definitely try the tacos...beef & fish...both are great!

3 1/2 stars this time... Went back two nights later for another taste of these burgers. There was a doggy happy hour event taking place in the outdoor area. So great! I wish more places in my hometown of Chicago had events like that. The service this time wasn't great as it had been two days earlier. It was really impersonal. It was busy and I waited a long time to be acknowledged since I was sitting at the back side of the bar and many customers coming in from outside were waited on up front before me. The bartender was consumed with that crowd and she didn't even say hello to me when I sat down although we did make eye contact. I actually felt a bit like I was incoveniencing the guy who took my order. It's weird to have the urge to apologize for asking for a cocktail and a to-go order.... I can see why some reviewers have complained. But my burger was fabulous. So tasty that I soon felt less irritated by the treatment I received in order to get this awesome burger. I'll be back in a few weeks when I'm in Dallas again on business. And I'll be prepared for a luke warm greeting but fantastic food.

Wow! I wish I lived less than 1,400 miles from this dive bar. I was in Dallas for the week when hearing of this place. A friend and I walked 3 miles in heavy rain to hang here. As far as dive bars go, this tops my list. I did not expect the welcome we received. It was like running into old friends. Seth was tossing up tasty tunes, Jackie shared great stories, Kevin was a cool cat and Havier..... that guy blew my taste buds away! Hands down the best burger I have ever had (and I am pushing 40). The fries were flippin fantastic as well. If I am ever in the tri-state area again, I'll be back. Their jukebox is top notch as well.

Lee Harvey's... You never disappoint me! I can't wait to come back! This is our fave place to hang out in Dallas. IT IS the best dive bar in Dallas and their reputation holds true. We had celebrate my significant others birthday 2 weeks ago when the Hunter Sullivan's Band was playing. They were good as well as the staff at Lee Harvey's. Emily, our waitress is so awesome. She helped us with storing our cake in the fridge and being very tentative to our food and drinks. Roger at the bar is also awesome! They were slammed, but they get those drink orders out fast! Unfortunately, my significant other had a little too much to drink. So we left a little early then we wanted. No worries - we will be back! The Food: YUM-O! Chicken Panini was a healthy choice, but it good. Can't ever go wrong with their burger and onion rings. We always get that when we are there. And did you know they have specials on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday? $1 tacos, 1/2 price burgers and 1/2 price wings... So check it out! Flea Harvey's? Every 1st Saturday they have a flea market there. The weather is getting nicer. So bring your dog! Neighbors or whoever...! We always have a good time here. The music varies from weekend to weekend. So check out their schedule. Tip: Don't be afraid of the neighborhood driving there. It looks a little skivvy, but once you're there - all worries are gone!

The people who run Lee Harvey's know what they are doing. This place is a great scene, where you will see people hanging out in the yard when it's brrrr chilly or sssssizzle hot. I love the family atmosphere and the way I feel completely at home. The food is surprisingly fantastic. I haven't had a better chicken sandwich than their panini with chipotle sauce. Their fries and onion rings are also a great way to put on the pounds. I also commend them for their drink selection. I love that they serve Strongbow and Times Ten wine (although I always get Strongbow). The bathroom scene is much improved with the addition of the outdoor bar bathrooms. Don't let them scare you; they're actually quite clean and preferable to the one inside (anyone want to guess why that bathtub has a door with a padlock? shudder!) Last, but certainly not least, Lee Harvey's knows how to treat a band. That is priceless and much appreciated!

Yay for patios. I love being able to enjoy a chill beer next to a roaring fire pit. Though slightly concerned about the drunk Santas that took it upon themselves to refuel the fire, I suppose those worst things than having my face sizzled off. The bartenders were cool and quick on getting the drinks. Besides the mob of Santas and Christmas Trees that were there the night we went, folks in other groups were friendly and chill. I can't speak for the food, but it looks like from other reviews that they've got some pretty good deals, so I will be exploring further. Enjoy the fire! That's automatic 100 points right there.

This is a great place...not hard to find. Tucked away behind warehouses and other empty spots near downtown, you will find Lee Harvey's. First, I have to say that it was dog day - or something to that effect. So, we had H-Dog with us. The parking was great, we just pulled right up and all of us piled out of the Rover. My first thought was...wow, it's going to be hot...even though it was ONLY 91 degrees. Trust me, after your first beer - you forget the heat. We were starving when we arrived. I couldn't wait to order. I had no idea what kind of food that was served up here, so I was anxious to see the menu. Meat, Meat and more Meat. I had just had a hamburger yesterday...so I wasn't in the mood for meat. Sometimes I like to go veggie. I ordered the portobella panini - um, wow - this was knock your socks off wow. It's so hard to find a place that serves up thick portobella mushrooms and/or caps. I haven't had these since Maudie's Milagro Veggie Fajitas in Austin (another veggie fave). (Yeah, believe it that I'm totally into veggie and not gay...hmm - that is the most ignorant comment I've ran across on Yelp. ) The boyfriend had the burger - swiss, avocado. That too was amazing. I loved the buns - they were white bread but almost had the consistency of wheat. Nice an thick and browned. Great, great. The best HAD to be the onion rings. They were coated with wonderful batter and fried up to goodness. I could eat these every day - and weigh 900 lbs. I love Lee Harvey's and am already setting a date go to back!!

What can you say? A hole in the wall bar and you can bring your dog......doesn't get better. Food was pretty good too.

The rickety old picnic tables, the over-sized Christmas lights strung up overhead, good music playing in the background and some friendly Southern gentlemen ready for a good conversation along with the cold beer and great food make Lee Harvey's the ultimate dive bar. The beer is cheap and the bartenders are awesome! (At least the one I had was pretty cool.) The day I went to Lee Harvey's, I had bought some cheese early on in our trek around Dallas and I didn't think about refrigerating it til it was almost too late. The bartender at Lee's offered to stick it in the cooler for me while we got our drink on. What a sweetheart! There's a pretty decent menu, that even surprised me with a veggie sandwich! On Monday nights there are unlimited tacos for $1 each! I had the fish and Jordan had the steak... both excellent! The inside bar is a little cramped, but there is a TON of seating outside. They even let you bring your dog! If I lived in Dallas, this would totally be one of my regular hangouts!

Crap, why am I writing a review about this place? I don't really want anyone else knowing about this place other than those that already do! When I get super sick of all the DBs living in Dallas or have had one too many trips to Uptown, this is the place I go to remind myself that if I can't live Austin, Dallas ain't that bad! This is by far the place to kick it on a cool fall night, outside by the fire pits. I did smell like a campfire for the next 24 hours but it was all part of the charm.

I came here for a friend's birthday party and it was packed at about 10:00p, security guard checked our ID but there wasn't a cover, phew. I quickly found my friends sitting outside at one of the many picnic tables, but close to one of the chimenea so it was all good. The band was a 5 or 6 person set, lead woman had tats and a flute, interesting combo. About half way through my Pabst, a short bus pulled up with about 20 pirates. Arrrrr, me maties, interesting from that point on. The place was packed, bathrooms were two, both had signs on them for "lady's use only" which I thought was interesting, guys weren't too happy about that. At one point, there was the most docile looking pitbull chilling outside the bar entrance, and the biggest dog-water bowls I've ever seen chilling close to him. 5 stars for Pabst, quick service, good people, chimeneas, Pirates, and a cool through-the-trees view of downtown.

So a friend of mine suggested that we try this place out. We decided to visit on a Sunday (bring yo' dAwg day). It was me, some friends, and 2 pooches. On the way there, I thought that my GPS had failed me b/c of the rickety neighborhood it took us through (which the place resides in). All of a sudden, WE ARRIVE at our destination. Since my dog is a COMPLETE SPAZZZZ, he IMMEDIATELY starts to bark (from INSIDE THE CAR) as he can see all of the 4-legged activity PoPin' OFF all over the place. To make a long story short, my dog FFFFreak-Barked the whole time (I'm still socializing him....it takes time)!! I got "looks" from people.....so I looked back at folks, and we all started laughing. I tried to walk off, like I wasn't the dog's Mother, but he followed me (couldn't hide the fact that he was mine). Many people came up to talk to us, and say "Hi" to my obnoxious dog. Finally, after my little guy calmed down (good for him, b/c I was actually thinking about drugging him), we had a GREAT time. When we got hungry, we ordered the cheeseburger with 1/2 fries 1/2 onion rings (chipotle aioli dippins'), and it was DELISH!!!! It tickled the S outta me when our food came out, and we were surrounded by a couple of beggin' dAwgs (they were TOOO cute)!!!!! Drink:30 later, it was fire pit time, which was too perfect. Overall, this was an awesome experience. The staff was super friendly, as were the patrons. I don't know of any other place, where you can grab a tough drink, have some tasty viddles, meet great people, and enjoy a fire pit.....all while wearing flip flops, with your dog by your side. Pooches and I will definately be back. Cheers to Lee Harvey's!!!!!!!

Yummy burgers! Lee Harvey's is known as a bar and music venue, but turns out to be a great place to grab lunch too. I loved the kitschy ambience and service was prompt and friendly.

What they said! Great drinks, great atmosphere, and surprisingly delicious food (good food at a dive bar. Dead serious!)! Best place to go in all of the DFW and surrounding areas. If you have never been, you must go. Right now. Drop everything and go! Go! Go! Hugs all around! I heart Bacon.

I guess that I've made a habit of eating at places and not updating lately, what's with that? I love this place because it is tucked away in a neigborhood and has tons of picknic tables and fire pits. I dig the fact that they have live music out on the front porch also. When I walked in there was a line out the door of people ordering, my friend and I had a seat at the bartop and waited...and waited...and waited...and then waited some more to be served. People have said "well there was only one chick working and they were busy" but I am thinking "so hire another person to assist" because the wait was ridiculous and once we did get drinks and food etc, we sat and waited....and waited....and waited some more. We would have definitely spent more money on beer and such had we been paid attention to but by the time I finally asked for our check we were already running late to an event. Anyway, the food: my god, so delicious I had a cheddar burger and then to be healthy about it added bleu cheese and it was probably the best bleu cheese burger I have ever had, actually, no doubt about it, fantastic. And they're right when they advertise the best onion rings in town, because they totally ruled. If the food wasn't so fantastic, I'd give this place a super low score for the lousy service. My suggestion to you Lee Harvey's is to order a barback or another bartender, or better yet a server or two. My suggestion to patrons is to not go if you're in a rush.

Man, and here I thought this was the best kept secret in town! This bar is A-MA-ZING! Yes, this place is in South Dallas, and when driving you might notice it's in a sketchy part of the neighborhood, but give it a chance. It's safer than you might think. The place might be hard to find, but be sure to look for a little piggy on a corner BBQ joint. This is a sure sign that you are almost there. When parking, I find it easier to park on the streets. If there are other parking spots please let me know! While walking to the bar you might notice a junk yard next to the bar and some doggies barking at you, but it's cool. I think it adds to the ambiance of the neighborhood. The first time I came here, my friend and I took a fellow couchsurfer from Mexico to check out this place. We didn't know what we were getting ourselves into, but boy when I saw the fence in bar with picnic tables and fire pit stoves. I was SOLD!!!!!!! Where have I been and why didn't I come here sooner? Our Mexican friend said it the best, " This is the epitome of what Texas is all about". Don't be mistaken though, it's not a honkey tonk bar, it's just looks like one. The people that frequent here are hip, cool, and laid back. In fact when we sat down, someone just came over and started a conversation with us. NICEEEE!!!!!!! When we went inside to order some drinks, it was a tad bit small and a little bit crowded, but it didn't bother me at all. In fact, you get to meet more cool people this way. The bartenders here are nice, funny, friendly, and quick on their toes. The drinks were pretty good and I wasn't complaining at all. Throughout my whole stay, I had a big smile on my face. So if you have loud friends bring them here. It won't be out of the norm . And always, the people checking your ID's coming in and making sure you're sober on your way out, are hilariously funny. Make sure to say hi to these guys on your way out. Be sure to stick around and enjoy the live bands, eat smores, laugh, and enjoy the cool night with a nice, cozy, roaring fire stove.

Dear Lee Harveys, You possibly have the scariest bar thing in Dallas. Think The Grapevine only seedier. I wasn't sure if I needed an escort to make it through the chain length fence. My friend Brad kept telling me it was okay. And then I saw the burgers being delivered to the withered old picnic tables packed with diverse and interesting people. I made my way to the bar to soothe my nerves. After a few boozy beverages and my own burger and onion rings I felt like I was right at home. Of course, that would mean my home in east Dallas with the rottweiler guarding the business next door. All funnies aside, I really liked this place. Not attitude allowed. Just a cool place to kick it with some friends. xoxo, Christopher Box

I stopped by last night for Geeks Who Drink (ie-trivia), which is a Thursday thing at Lee Harvey's. At one point, my friend Enrique described Lee Harvey's as where NPR-listeners like to go to "slum it." A few minutes later, someone at the Urban Outfitters-clad table next to us (populated by people we knew to be lawyers) made a comment about Ira Glass. Case closed. (Not that I can really point fingers.) Up to you, dear reader, to decide for yourself whether this is a good or bad thing.

Lee Harvey's is like one big house party in the middle of a very weird area. You will see anyone and everyone there and its cozy at-home vibe will draw you in. They have live music on the weekends and its fun just to sit there and people watch. Drinks aren't too expensive, and I can't speak much for the inside of the bar because when we did set foot in one side of it, it was like a really grungy motel lol, but the outside was a blast. Come with a group of friends, have a few drinks, and enjoy!

  • Rush G.

I thoroughly enjoyed myself here and would make the extra mile or two drive down to Lee Harvey's. It's not directly near much besides old businesses and such...but that's what gives it its character. Lee Harvey's is a place where I would feel totally comfortable and happy with hanging out any night without drinking--it's a cozy environment IMHO. Of course, I always get a few brews though! Huge outside patio that's dog-friendly, has a couple outdoor fire pits, and fun place to catch some outdoor live music. The inside is very charming and cozy with low ceilings, cool dark lights, and other neat vibes. The food there was surprisingly delicious, better than the average pub food.

Amazing food, decent drinks. Possibly best burger in Dallas. Great bands and always fun at Assassination City Roller Derby events held at this bar. In the winter, you can make S'mores. Nuff said.

95 degrees at sundown sitting outside at picnic tables bent from the rain and extreme weather changes they've seen o' these many years. I couldn't have had a better time! LH's is a really cool dive bar in the best sense of that moniker. It takes me back to the old 'ice houses' of my youth. The included then, but even more so now, eclectic crowd's, cold beer, really good steak taco's and on this evening Thin White Dukes, (David Bowie tribute band), made for a most excellent evening. I'm defiantly going to be back.

I came in from Chicago and wanted some dirty fun. So, night two of my stay we hit Lee Harvey's. When you pull up there's a badass sign and a chainlink fence around the place. There is a large open outdoor area with picnic table seating and occasionally a waitress will stop by if you're too lazy to walk the 20 yards to the bar. Next to the place is a junk yard with it's very own junk yard dog. just from aesthetics alone this place has a ton of character. There was a cover band there the night we went that rocked pretty hard. The main bar is inside and it can get a little cramped. It's not really a sit down and hang out area as much as a stand and socialize place. Later on after the band had stopped there was a DJ (I have a hard time using that word when they're not actually mixing) playing a vairety of Electroclash, New Wave and some old Industrial. Now this was a super mix of people if ever I've seen one. Bondage girls, goth rockers, frat boys, indie kids, bikers, etc.... It was like the United Nations of social groups. I'm not a bar person at all but this place was awesome. Definitely someplace I want to hit when I visit again.

Look in the dictionary for unsanitary, and you'll find a picture of Lee Harveys. You better have your tetanus shot before going there because the dogs that are peeing on your leg and your food surely don't have theirs. Steer clear of this health hazard.

My experience at Lee Harveys' was alright. I met up with some friends for Halloween last night and was glad to see the majority of the people dressing up. The drinks were a little on the high side but the atmosphere was nice. As I looked around and watched the bands play I couldn't help but feel like this was more of a place for locals then newcomers. The band that was on stage played some really good covers and I actually enjoyed it. I decided to get a bucket of beer hoping the more alcohol in my system would up my mood and make this place more enjoyable. The bartender with gray slicked back hair was a straight up dick. I understand if you busy but that is no excuse to be rude and throw beers into a bucket. That really killed my night, So I stand by what I said, this place is alright.

A place in Dallas called Lee Harvey's. Ha. How could you not go? This place is a true dive fan's dive. There some street parking, otherwise park in the field across the way. There's a chainlink fence to pass through to get onto the somewhat imposing property. The property is a mix of a dirt lot with crabgrass and some tables. There are people drinking cheap beer, smoking, swearing, and hanging out with their dogs. The beer is by-the-bottle and is chilled simply by dumping costco-sized bags of ice on 'em. The bartenders don't really care about you. It's cheap, it's open, and people mind their own business...unless your dog messes with theirs. A pretty awesome place for a warm Texas summer night.

I have been coming here for years. They have great burgers and love the Dog Friendly Sundays! The bands they have are usually pretty good. I would say their only downfall is the soda at the inside bar is pretty nasty.. get your drinks from the outside bar. Don't know why, but they seem to be mixed better... if you add alcohol it prob doesn't matter, but for a regi soda, get it outside! Onion rings are very tasty!

While I was in Dallas for Thanksgiving, everyone was all about Lee Harvey's and talking about meeting there. I even think Peter Bjorn and John went drinking there after their show. I didn't find it much to write home about, but it was an OK place to grab a drink, with a name that made one friend do a double-take. I don't know what's up with the white-trash themed bars in Dallas, either... It seems to be a thing... maybe a revolt against the yuppie-rich side of the city? The people at Lee Harvey's were nice, and it looks like it'd be a cool place to hang out when the weather wasn't awful with tons of outdoor seating. And the s'mores really tempted me. But the valet parking--at a dive bar!?--really left me confused.

Lee Harvey's what can I say. I was drug here a few times by a friend of mine who thought it was amazing. Upon entering, I loved the fact it was a bunch of picnic tables outside what appears to be a run down old house in a sketchy neighborhood. After going several times, I started hating this place more and more because I was never being served by the staff. After going to the outside bar to fetch myself a cerveza, I complained to the bartender that no one ever came over to serve us. He then advised me that they don't do table service. I felt like such a DB because I just assumed that table service was included. After this realization, I found a new love for where I was at. Great burgers, very cool atmosphere with bands that play on the front porch. All and all, a really unique place.

i love the patio. love to sit and drink beers and people-watch. the last time i came, here, though, i ordered food and then watched my grilled cheese sandwich walk around after waiting for nearly 40 minutes. we waved, held up the little number, and tried to get the guy's attention, but he took it back to the kitchen. nearly 10 minutes later it reappeared, cheese nearly re-solidified because it was basically cold. i was so hungry i had a headache and didn't want to wait another 15 minutes for them to reheat it. next time, i will make sure to eat before i arrive. (also? the outside bartender could use some lessons in how to be less than curt and also on how to wipe down a bar. you can't put your hand down without hitting a puddle.)

How can you not love Lee Harvey's? The neighborhood may seem a bit nervewracking your first visit, but there are much worse areas of Dallas. An adopted Pit Bull named Ruby patrols the yard. Be sure to take your dog on Sunday afternoons if the weather's good!

Great place worth the effort to find... seems kind of barren neighborhood but i have been many times and it is safe... Uniquely Dallas -- Defiantly not pretentious -- Burger is one of the best in Dallas also great Grill Cheese sandwich. Also now carrying Times 10 Wine (from LakeWood) great music and good selection of tap beers. Worth the drive...

The best burgers in Dallas by far. I love the way it's tucked out of the way of all of the Downtown and Uptown pretentiousness. I love this place. It's always a good time.

I did not win Friday's Halloween costume contest at Lee Harvey's, but I am not bitter. I understand that my store-bought SuperGirl was dwarfed by the likes of BabyJesusGirl, BobRoss, ThePolygamyGroup, Ben-the-Fully-Posable-ActionFigure, et al. Truly, I must have been a pitiful sight, by compare. I take comfort in this fact: By merely attending, I played a small part in creating the MOST dazzling, high-energy, eye-candy-rific spectacle that I've ever seen this side of BlackRockCity. At the evening's end, a friend of mine stated this truth: "I don't know why we ever go anywhere but Lee Harvey's. I have never had a bad time here." I couldn't agree more. Cozy fire pits, twinkle lights, lots of space (so I can steer clear of any smokers), fun music, plenty of parking... Yep. It's my favorite.

I once ordered a beer here and the waitress looked at me like she was going to slap me into next week. I was told that that's part of the charm at Lee Harvey's. It's rough around the edges and proud of it. Its brand image and ambiance are the opposite of slick watering holes like Ghost Bar, Nobu and Dragonfly. Dallas' art set loves Lee Harveys. It reminds me of another bar near the Fair Grounds called Double Wide. Both cater to good ole boys, boho's and the graphic design set.

This was a chill place a friend and i met up at that's near Deep Ellum area. Really liked the fire pits, which help keep the cold at bay. A decent number of beers to choose from (I had to get Shiner Bock since I was back in TX). There's a pool table and a juke box and some indoor seating, too, though it seems more like an outdoors place (so bring your jacket during the colder months). We moved to a booth when the weather started getting a little unwelcoming. Well, the seats in the booth do leave something to be desired when it comes to comfort (not sure how many butts had seen the seat I was on, but they left quite an impressions as the springs were busted) but it's perfect for a dive bar.

Lee Harvey's is hot! Ev en when it is freezing cold outside, the smudge pot fire pits keep you warm. Too bad the junk yard next door moved as it added to the mystique of this place (think the junk yard dog got too used to being fed excellent burgers that are served at Lee's and became more of a friend than a fierce protector of junk). Love this place.

This bar is a favorite amongst my friends. I've had lots of good times there but I typically go for special occasions. So far santa rampage and for halloween. Drinks are reasonable I got a bloody mary for 4.95

dallas is surmised in a lot of ways at this bar. well, one side of dallas. the t-shirt and jeans, apathetic to aesthetics, lone star beer drinking, laid back and grinning dallas. not to say this bar can't douche out, it can and will, but its mostly of the common "i can douche out like that sometimes also" variety. due to the size of the patio out front, it often times becomes a sort of drunken dog park. thats a good thing. the best ice breakers in the world occur when your dog sniffs the ass of someone else's dog. the door to conversation generally swings wide open at that point.

used to be 4 until they got a feminazi bartender. i used to go alot for bands on the weekend but last time I went Petty Theft was playing and one of the bartenders who shall remain nameless acted like she had never worked at a busy bar and was so inconvenienced by people wanting drinks and giving her tips- the nerve of those damn customers...

Awesome Fish Tacos and Tortilla Soup!!! I have yet to try anything that I don't like.. They also have a killer sandwich called the Road Runner! I've been told many times that the burgers are the best ever. I love the atmosphere! I've been during the week, weekend nights and during the day on Sunday! It's just a really cool place. They usually have really good bands that play outside, but even when they don't, the music is always great. The scene is upbeat in a relaxed kind of way! The folks that work there are really great! Seems like everyone is having a good time and it's infectious! I absolutely recommend this place. I live in Frisco, but fine it really easy to get to..straight shot down the tollway to St. Paul, thru downtown. Just south of 30, turn left on Beaumont and you are there! From Frisco, its less than 30 minutes to greatness and really nice break from the suburbs.

I like coming here when I don't want to run into people I know. Great outdoor area, and good bands play here. One major downside is that the bar is all alone so no bar hopping if the scene is dead.

I love any evening spent at Lee Harvey's. Their outdoor area is complete with bar and bathroom. You never have to set foot inside... Unless you want to! The burger's are great. The drinks are fantastic. Good price. Great atmosphere. Most of the live bands are enjoyable even if you don't typically like their genre. It's a great place on any given night.

Lee Harvey's was a fun place where many things happen such as: flip cup, pool table, juke box, outside patio, and cheap drinks! In a strange location but well worth it, its like a bar house party!

This place some of the best bands out there! If you like great music and cold beer this is the place to go. I saw the band Likely Story there a few weeks back and it was a blast!

I'm not from Dallas but I'm really glad I stumbled into this place. Lee Harvey's gets cool points right out of the gate simply by being a bar in Dallas named Lee Harvey's. It's kinda like a big middle finger beacon into the night, or at least that's how I interpret it. I will pay this bar the compliment of saying it reminds me of my favorite bar where I DO live (Austin), Barfly's. Good, strong drinks are a big deal. When you order a double whiskey on the rocks here they actually give you a good-looking drink instead of some sorry-ass little bitty thing. The atmosphere of the place makes a barfly like me comfortable almost immediately. It's kinda dark, it's small inside but there is a ton of room to move around outside. They sell beer by the bucket. Sweet! It does suck waiting in line so bucket beer means fewer trips. (Oh, but for tips on how to not have to wait in line so much, see the "buying your bartender drinks" section below.) The bartender was really really nice to me because I was from out of town. I guess he wants to increase the legend of the bar outside of the Dallas area? Hell, the guy wouldn't even let me pay for the t-shirt I wanted to buy. And I bought him a couple of shots (amateurs out there, offer to buy your bartender a couple of drinks or shots at some point in the night, then drink said drink/shot with them. I promise it will only make your life easier & better.) ...but later he wouldn't let me pay him for those either. The place must have been pretty cheap because I bought a hell of a lot of drinks and the tab was only $80. Lee Harvey's was a great way to cap off a night at the Palladium (Tom Waits was in town, so I was too.) Oh, and the sketchy neighborhood only adds to the charm. But then again I'm 6'4" so maybe a smaller person wouldn't agree? I tend to not worry about rough neighborhoods. You meet more interesting people in them.

One of my favorite bars in Dallas, in the middle of nowhere just south of Downtown. Sit outside by the fire pit and drink beer and eat smores. Plus I love the name. Make sure you pick up a key fob (which has a little map on it) when you leave to remember how to find it again.

If the weather is nice, head on over to Lee Harvey's for a few good drinks and some excellent pub grub.-great burgers, onion rings, fish tacos, steak. I love this place, best hang in town, friendly atmosphere very laid back, interesting and fun crowd, a great juke box and occasionally live music. Dallas needs more places like this-refreshingly not a corporate bone in Lee's body, I have been going to Lee Harvey's for several years now-never had a bad experience. Great place to take an out-of-towner on a nice day. Tuesday night half price burgers and dog day afternoon on Sundays.

As a native east coaster, I was glad to leave my 2.5 years of Dallas residence behind me and return to NYC back in 2006. But if there's one thing that gets me nostalgic about Big D, it's Lee Harvey's. Let's start with the space. The outside is a gigantic yard, dappled with benches, heated by fires in cool weather, and patrolled by friendly dogs and cats both visiting and native. The inside is almost like a little ski lodge (if it was at a mountain filled with chain-smoking drunks), with a cozy, but not cramped atmosphere. The food... oh, man, the food. So great. Burgers are extraordinary... even better than Adair's, and way better than Stoneleigh P. Grilled cheeses come on jalapeno bread, if memory recalls, that offer a hot kick. Fries are excellent, and served with a chipotle aioli that I miss so much, I tried to recreate in my kitchen in New York, to some success. Drinks are plentiful, not super-cheap, but whatever. Service is often complained about as being surly, which is accurate, but it's not a really off-putting surliness. The neighborhood is shitty, but it gives you the feeling as you sit in the yard that you're in an oasis. Plus, your car isn't likely to get broken into, since there are a million people in the yard looking at the parking lot. The worst part is knowing you'll have to call a cab (of course, most Dallas folk have no problem drunk-driving) because, God willing, you live nowhere near there. Although in my wildest dreams, I've often thought of purchasing a dilapidated building nearby and spending all my time hanging out in the yard of Lee Harvey's, nursing a beer or five.

My favorite bar in Dallas at this point. It's an old house (which I think used to be a bar) which they converted into a bar. They had a band which played on the porch (kind of reminded me of the movie "The Jerk") and they were really good. There are a bunch of tables outside where you can chill out as well as an indoors bar which is nice too. You can get food there till pretty late which is nice. I had a nice tasty burger with fries. What I love too is that the owner kept all the original signs in the bar from like 50 years ago. There's a sign for Schlitz in bottles from like 1958, really cool. Go there when MC 900 Ft. Jesus is spinning. Mark Griffin is an awesome DJ and plays some great Jazz and some old school funk. Now that the Expo Lounge is gone, I actually like this place better. The neighborhood is sketchy which actually gives it it's charm. Good, then it keeps away the yuppies!

I absolutely LOVE this bar. I don't get there as often as I wish to, but....They hosted the "Rockers vs Mods" event on Saturday a couple weekends ago and it reminded me how much I love hanging out here. This bar is a throwback for sure. It makes me want to crack a PBR and raise some hell!!!!!!

Lee Harvey's is about 3/4 lawn seating and 1/4 bar seating. In fact, I would not even bother trying to sit inside -- generally, it's too crowded. But the patio/lawn seating at LH's is really fantastic. Lots of open space, lots of picnic tables, some fire pits -- plenty of room to spend several hours on a warm night. Plus, Sundays are "Dog Day Afternoons," where visitors are encouraged to bring their dogs and take advantage of drink specials.

What a cool place!!!! Right when I walked in they were jamming some old school funk which I love!!! The front "yard" is equipped with giant chimneyias and plenty of benches to sit around them and tell ghost stories while enjoying your vodka tonic or shiner. We sat inside the covered porch while we enjoyed our food. My buddy had the chicken pannini and I had the cheese burger which was num num. The fries were actually really tasty. We ordered some of their famous onion rings but they must have forgotten to bring them out, but the food we had was plenty! We sat around the fire talking and having a great time. Next door there is some sort of construction business that has a real junkyard dog!!! Hes a good little boy. He may look ruff and tuff but he is a nice puppy. Sort of weird, he would not bark at any normal passer bys, but if you were a crack head with a cart then you got your ear full of some bark...fun times at lee harvey's.

Um, first off I have no idea why many posters call this a "scary" area. Is it because there is barbed wire topping the fence of the storage yard next door? Is it because there are lower income apartments nearby? Is it because a few of the cars parked here and there are pre-2000?I shudder at what they would think of a truly "scary" area of the world. I saw absolutely nothing in the area that would cause me concern. Lee Harvey's is basically an old house located within a large corner lot with a bunch of picnic tables out front. If you walk in the "front door", there is a nook off to the left with an old Galaga/Pacman game and some lounge benches. Straight in front of the door is the horseshow bar with a few spinning stools/chairs with backs. Back side of the bar is a pool table room. I started at the bar and was greated quickly and very nicely by the bartender. Went with the 1/2 lb Burger with Fries and Blue cheese ($7) and a PBR ($2.50). Took it outside to a picnic table and watched the Fri night band (no idea of their name). The played a nice mix of original rock and threw in a couple Reggae songs. At 8-9pm and the sun just going down, it was a nice mix of mostly large groups (some with kids), couples, and a few guys/gals out with buddies. Very casual atmosphere, great prices, friendly service. I can picture it on a cooler night with the fires going as alot of fun. Only recommendation would be to put in a horseshoe pit.

Man, I love this bar. If I'm looking for a guaranteed morning-after filled with hazy recollections of bad decisions brought on by too many jäger shots with my best friends Lee Harvey's is my go to place. Drinks and service are always good, shots are served in frosty shot glasses, food is awesome, happy hour is cheap, fire pits rock, live music, great place to hang with friends and make new ones, Bacon the cat, you can bring your dogs some days...why aren't I there RIGHT NOW? Don't miss out on the burger. Probably my favorite in Dallas. Onion rings are fresh and huge. The sauce that comes with them is like crack. Really can't go wrong with any of the food.

Unpretentious and casual, Lee Harvey's has surprisingly good food and music. It's never uncomfortably packed, so claustrophobic people will enjoy this over places like Truck Yard on the weekend.

I've been going to Lee Harvey's since forever, and I cannot say enough good things about the place. The drinks are always cold and affordable, the food is always worth the wait, we can take our dogs up there any time we want (as long as we sit outside), they light their firepits at night, and there's a great bbq joint right behind LH in case you get a hankering for some ribs and potato salad. This is your typical Dallas dive bar with plenty of non-typical flair to keep you coming back. By the way, if you're not okay with being on the lookout for dog sh*t when you sit outside on dog Sundays, shut up and go home, because the rest of us don't want you here anyway.

My first Dallas dive bar. We tried the steak tacos and fries (they were out of chips for chips and salsa). The meat was too chewy for me. The fries were good. Next time I'll try a burger or grilled cheese. Atmosphere was good with ample outside seating which was perfect on a cooler night like tonight and with live music! Delightfully divey!

I love taking my dog here on Sunday afternoons, it has become a tradition. He can run off the leash and socialize. The staff here is nice, the drinks are strong more often than not, and THE BURGER IS THE BEST IN DALLAS! Great onion rings too! I have been to a concert here on Saturday night and that was highly entertaining as well!

I have only been to Lee Harvey's once and had a fabulous, mind-erasing evening. What I do remember is the band playing outside, the fire burning, the awsome dive interior, and the seriously interesting mix of people that I chatted with all night. It is a kind of sketchy neighborhood but that's not a problem - we took a cab there and back. Update - went back to destroy my liver Friday night and it was so laid back and festive. I think I met half the people there! The bartender was NOT stingy with the rum whatsoever either...hellllloooo! And the fires were burning which was awesome when it started getting cold out...of course I smelled like I had been camping when I went home but I think that is all part of the experience hehe Excellent bar, great place to go when you are feeling chill and want to do something different.

Their burgers I have to say are the best in Dallas, over Cock and Bull, Jake's, Angry Dog's, and Back Yard Burger. The place is as dark and divey as it gets. I've been several times to hang out at night, but only recently had their food. They have basically replaced one of the places I mentioned earlier as my go-to weekly burger place. I haven't tried the tacos yet, but I know they have a special on those every Tuesday. **update - looks like I was wrong about the day of the taco special. I wouldn't mind paying full price either way. They have dollar tacos every Monday, but the taco platter is available every day. Tuesdays are half price burger days.

Lee Harvey's is another one of those great, old, original dive bars of Dallas. A little grungy and rough around the edges, but fantastic nonetheless. I mean, the place has the same name as the man who was accused of assassinating one of America's most beloved presidents. Sketchy... yet intriguing. You'll find Dallasites of all types at this bar. Visit here and expect to see rockers, hipsters, neighborhood locals and the hip and trendy. Quite a diverse crowd in my opinion. My favorite thing about Lee Harvey's and the reason I would usually find myself here was Dog Day Afternoon. Every Sunday they encourage you to bring your four legged friend to the bar where they have set up a makeshift dog park in the parking lot. The area is fenced off so that you are free to let your pouch off the leash with no worries of them wondering too far. Just don't be a jerk and bring your dog here if it isn't friendly around people and other dogs. That is just rude. There are picnic tables outside available along with a grill stocked with charcoal. Bring your own meet and BBQ right there at the bar. All of this while enjoying a few cold ones with friends. The patio area also has fire pits that come in real handy during the cooler months in Dallas... what few of them there are! I never had the pleasure of eating at Lee Harvey's during my many visits, but I hear they have a kickass burger. I was more of a beer/vodka/shot customer on my ventures. Their prices are extremely reasonable compared to other Dallas bars. Especially on Sundays when they serve $2 bloodys and mimosas. Cheap drinks? Yes, please! Another kicker is that they serve canned beers. Just one of the many things that makes Lee Harvey's what it is.

I contemplated giving this place 2 stars, but I decided against it because I figure I must be missing something. Since I recently moved to the Cedar's neighborhood, I thought it would be a grand idea to visit the only bar within walking distance to me-- Lee Harvey's. Granted, I went on a cloudy Sunday afternoon but I quickly wondered what the big deal was with the place. Rave reviews all around. What am I missing? The bartender didn't seem all that friendly to me, the drinks were just OK, and the clientele as my older friend with me said, was somewhat "red-neck" Major staring was rampant. Did I have a booger in my nose? I dunno. But it seemed as if I was an alien or something. At any rate, I'm not going to dismiss this place just yet. Something within me says I need to give it another shot--mostly b/c it's walking distance to my townhouse... (did I mention that it's walking distance?) Oh, how I love to drink and not drive. I just need to figure out the night when the normal people go and try the food b/c apparently that's what everyone is reviewing on. I'll revisit this after my next visit. (most likely $1 taco night)

I have been trying to write only about new experiences in the metroplex but after having yet another awesome time at Lee Harvey's I couldn't resist boosting its already great rating! Forget what people tell you about this place and simply go find out for yourself. Don't wait for a warm night either!! Go with a group, go with a friend, go alone!! Just Go!!

I came here on a Saturday for a birthday party. It's not too far from downtown. Place has a great outdoor seating area. I would say patio area, but its not covered. What I recommend - onion rings with chipotle aioli. Aioli adds a nice side sauce to the onion rings which were crisp. The burger was juicy.

Some things just make Dallas an all around better place to be. Let me let you in on a secret...Lee Harvey's is one of those things. Lee Harvey's is unquestionably a fantastic bar, a Dallas staple, and the proud home of the Assassination City Roller Derby after parties. A tucked away secret in the Cedars, on any given night you can walk into the yard, order a Lone Star, sit by the fire pits at one of the picnic tables and check out the Downtown Dallas skyline. And, if you're the adverturous type, on the third Saturday night of the month, you can hang with your favorite derby girls. Mondays have $1 taco night, and sometimes a chair massage therapist, Ryan, who takes no money for himself...all money goes to the Humane Society. Tuesdays feature the legendary Lee Harvey's burgers 1/2 price. Don't forget the aioli sauce! The weekends feature some great musical line ups on the outdoor patio, from DJ Woodtronic and Hunter Sullivan to RTB2 and STEW! I am going to give this place one star for each of the amazing people at Lee Harvey's that just make it the place to be. One for Kaz. One for Howard. One for Big John. One for Matt. One for Seth. One for Bacon Lee Harvey. One for Amy. Dammit...I've run out of stars. But, Lee Harvey's, on the other hand, does not. This, my friends, is as good as it gets.

Awesome place. They have bug spray out for you so you won't get bug bites...how thoughtful! However, maybe the bugs like to bit you when you're there because the drinks are stiff and maybe they get a little buzz when they suck your blood. Michelle H. said it best..."You don't have to be a regular to be welcome, just don't be a douche." PACE!

Went to this gem a few days ago. Feels like you are in someones backyard. Has a dive bar feel but stands out because of the massive patio and the "garage" feel of the bar inside. Good drinks. Great prices. Great environment. Loved the line of trees that make you feel like you aren't downtown. Get away from the hooplah of Dallas and visit this diamond in the rough.

Basically put if you are looking for a down to earth place with good drinks, great food, and amazing welcoming staff...then this is the place in Dallas, Texas! Place is busy with all sorts of creative people of all ages. The outdoor area with plenty of wood benches if perfect for chilling out, plus they are extremely pet and kid friendly. If you are new to Dallas you definitely want to visit this place!

Great food, the best outdoor picnic tables and firepits, wonderful people, service, & music (live & recorded)...had a perfect 1/2price burger & a beer there last night after the DallasProducer's Assoc. meeting @Southside on Lamar. Under 8 bucks! Can't beat it for a casual, laid-back evening out! One of my Dallas all-time favorites!

After seeing several yelp reviews in favor of this place, I finally checked out Lee Harvey's on my last trip to Dallas. Went in on a Tuesday night around 9 pm. The weather in Dallas was just about perfect (warm and not yet too soupy), so a place with outdoor seating was in order. We have a somewhat similar spot in San Francisco called Zeitgeist, except instead of bikers, that place is frequented by cyclists. I won't say Zeitgeist is the poorer for it, but it certainly lends a different vibe. Great that there was a pool table and sufficient room for hanging out in doors when the heat got a little much. Additionally there is an old-school juke box with a legit selection of music - mad props here. (Remember the days when half the reason you picked one bar over another was specifically BECAUSE they had a great juke box selection? You knew you weren't going to be stuck listening to songs you didn't like, because in THAT bar such songs simply didn't exist behind the glass of that merciful sanctuary of mechination and vinyl. None of this fighting over the stupid digital download jukebox BS we have today, where you can inadvertently find yourself nearly going fistacuffs with some jack-ass that wants nothing more than to play every song Judy Garland ever sang when it's obvious the rest of the crowd wants nothing more than to gouge his eyes out and put on Queen's Greatest Hits... or is that just a problem I have in San Francisco?...) Furthermore, though I'm happy to frequent similar places when at home, since I was in Dallas on business, I was wearing a power-suit-dress, and felt somewhat like an idiot as I crossed the gravel front yard in my patent leather pumps. The rest of my company was similarly business-y. No one at the bar gave us a second look though, and my discomfort was quickly eased away by a very friendly bartender. Anyhoo, my requirements for refreshments in Dallas are few, but include Shiner, outdoor seating where I can have a cigarette, decent music, and good people watching. Lee Harvey's fits the bill in brilliant fashion. Will definitely swing back on my next trip!

One star off for the absolutely worst French fries you can imagine. Blech!! Really good burgers and excellent bear batter dipped onion rings with an interesting chipotle aioli mayo...I love the laid back vibe at this place. Reminds me of skippys mistake in Arlington. Great place!! It's a dive bar with great music and friendly staff. A must check out for all! Happy eating!!

How can Lee Harvey's only have 9 reviews? Put quite simply, Lee Harvey's is a bar with a very Austin feel smack dab in the middle of Dallas. This is the very first bar I take friends from out-of-town when I want to pretend that I actually live in a fun city that is NOT filled with $30,000 millionaires and bimbos. Sure, you'll get so drunk that several details of the night will be spotty at best. And sure, you'll arrive home smelling like a campfire. But that is the charm of Lee Harvey's. Embrace it.

This place is truly great. I love the outside, the inside, the people, the look, the music, the drinks. It's really rare that one can say all these things about a place. A friend of mine suggested we go there and I thought I'd been there. When I walked in though, I realized I had never been there and thus, I've been lying to anyone and everyone who I have told I've been there. Though, now, I guess I'm not, so, you know, bygones. Anyway, it's really what a bar in Texas should look like and they have good musicians play there, and you can bring your dog. Me and my friend got there late on a Thursday and got in a conversation about music with the bartender and he was actually more focused on us, his new friends and now loyal customers, than he was on closing up and running us out, actually never asking us to leave, even though I'm sure he was tired and wanted to go home. I truly a believe that a good bartender is hard to come by when one defines a good bartender as someone who can not only make drinks, but also smiles and remembers you and makes suggestions and shows patience and listens to your bullshit and provides good bullshit back, like he or she is actually listening. The bar experience is very important to alot of people, and I'm not saying that flippantly. Alot of us go to these places for refuge, not in alcohol, but in people and music and comfortable surroundings, inspiring decor. To say that you love a bar, in my mind, is to say that you find something of yourself and people like yourself in the place. You feel somewhat at home, without being at home, and for alot of us, this feeling is better than the feeling we get at home because everybody has alot of stuff going on in there homelives that quite naturally becomes associated with their homes. Lee Harveys is somewhere I could go every night and just sit and chat with people who want to chat. It's the kind of place where things can come up that inspire conversation and sprout new friendships. It's really everything I, personally, look for in a bar. By my first step into the inside it was my favorite bar in Dallas. It's the good Dallas. You should definitely go there.

Best outdoor bar in Dallas laid back chill great atmosphere!! I had to write a review because they finally expanded there bathrooms, and built brandnew ones outside!!! yay!!! no more troff or porta potties but actualy built bathrooms. So if you havent been there in a while, get ready to be satisfied to not have to wait inline to go the bathroom no more!!!

Your buddy calls and says that he's having a party. They'll be cooking great burgers, serving up cold beer, and a band will be playing in the yard. He's set up some picnic tables, strung up some Christmas lights, stoked the chimineas, and a lot of people are bringing their dogs over. Sounds like fun! Wait... This isn't your friends place, it's Lee Harvey's! Sitting in the shadow of Southside, off of Lamar, the old stone house, with original wood paneling and what look to be some of the original beer neons, stands out in the warehouse-laden neighborhood. Cop a squat at one of the tables in the yard and strike up a conversation with some like-minded strangers, while Bacon, the house cat (who has his own Myspace page), comes up for a rub. There is rarely a cover charge unless a big name act is appearing (rarely happens). They serve one of the best burgers in Dallas and also have some world class onion rings. The menu is small, but it's all good. Lee Harvey's was voted the Best Bar in Dallas by Observer readers in 2006 and is definitely worth a trip to the other side of the tracks!

I have to say, I wasn't impressed. At all. I am hoping to return for round two on a different night in hopes of making up for the bad experience. But let me go ahead and review my first time at Lee Harveys. It's slightly sketchy when you pull up. Not in the best part of town. But I looked past that and I considered it a diamond in the rough. It was a Thursday night and dead. Maybe 10 people total. We sat at the bar and sadly had a bad experience. Although nice, the bartender/waitress was not very attentive. It looked like most of the patrons were regulars so instead of being available to refill drinks and take our order she chatted with her "friends". We had to ask her if it was okay if we could place an order. Inappropriate! So we order the burger because my fellow Yelpers have been raving about it. Again, not impressed. Actually kinda grossed out. It was greasy and tasteless. There is a huge outdoor area that has potential so maybe I will return on a Saturday when it is warmer outside and hopefully update this posting with more positive feedback.

I was reminded again last night how much I love this bar. They had a Pooch Prom last night and it was so much fun! I do wish there were rules about certain doggie behaviors, though. I saw several dogs actually jump on the tables while people were eating and I had to fight a few dogs off my food. I brought my dog, but I made sure she wasn't begging or bothering people who weren't interested. Kind of wish other owners had paid more attention to their wondering dogs.

Me and some friends were in town for a wedding and had some time to kill while the girls were busy. I searched for dive bars around us and this place came up. Pretty stoked on the whole experience. I don't think we could stop talking about it later. We just wanted to come back. They have a great happy hour and the bartenders were very heavy handed, just the way I like it. We were there for a couple hours. Had some drinks, played some pool. Very friendly atmosphere. The fire pits outside were great. Felt like we were just hangin out around home.

Before there was Lustre Pearl (Austin), there was Lee Harvey. I can't believe Dallas beat us to the punch on this awesome bar/house concept. If you love hanging around outside drinking with friends, this is your place. Love that it's dog-friendly.

This was my first trip there and I loved it! Atmosphere: Bascially a house turned into restaurant with the front yard being all picnic tables. The burger was great (one my new favorite's in dallas) the burger tasted like it was cooked on charcoal and whatever pickles they use I need to know because I'm buying some. I loved the whole picnic table concept and the band that played that night. I will be returning!

Yes, finally jumping on the Lee Harvey train. Or perhaps it's a beat-up old Ford pick-up...rusted out with some stray dogs in the back. But I digress. On a Wednesday afternoon around five pm (what can I say, I like to start early) the place was pretty deserted...save for a sad junk yard dog that sat behind his chain link fence and waited hopefully for one of us to steal a hubcap, thereby giving him the chance to rip our calf muscles out. Sorry, buddy. I ain't stealing this time. Just here to drink my troubles away. Lee Harvey's has an utterly compelling rusty old charm. Like Grandpa's cowboy boots or Uncle Willy's spittoon. The sign itself, a hunk of painted metal swaying in the breeze, drew me in like a moth to the flame. The gravel-filled front yard and picnic tables said, "Howdy! Sit a spell." So I sat. Then I saw the wood paneling inside AND the old light-up beer signs and swooooned. The Falstaff beer one...yes, I'm stealing you one night...around 2:15 am when I'm good and rowdy. Yes, they serve Times Ten wine in a hearty no-stem glass. But they also serve Miller High Life, which is where you just can't go wrong. The food menu looked tempting, but I just wanted to drink 'til I passed out on the ripped vinyl seats. The bar is cozy, dark, and has a boarded-up shower in the ladies' bathroom...Uncle Willy, let's git goin'! Daylight's a-burnin' and we gots some drankin' to do...

Been hearing about this place for years. Finally in the neighborhood & looking for a great patio to enjoy the weather, we ventured out into this unknown)to me) abyss of cool in the Dallas scene. Started with a couple 2.75 coors light and some half price chicken wings. The wings are are worth writing home about, very tasty and sprinkled with some kind of black seeds.Next the chips and salsa also amazed. The salsa had huge chunks of garlic, which always gets acclaim in my book. Next, two more beers and our two burgers. Fries were done perfectly, golden brown, seasoned evenly and crisp. The burger was also impressive, with a nice char on the outside, and they came out very quickly, perhaps they have a super fast way of cooking too that well done, or they are precooked, who knows. 33 bucks for all of this was not bad, but not cheap either....I love the outdoor area, just as great as everyone on here has been saying. Will be back!

We just moved here a few weeks ago and this place actually made me wanna write my first review! I LOVE LEE HARVEYS! The food was great (and cheap!! yayyy!!!) and coming the vibe was VERY COOL. Coming from Philly we are really picky! We went on a Wednesday and it was 1/2 off wings, which we could not finish because there burgers are huge but next time I go I think I'll try the $1 Taco night on a Monday.

Don't forget to try EVERYTHING on the menu!!! Great food and Mon-Wed they have great food deal's. I love $1 Taco Night on Tues :D and a plus is the $2 drink special...

The food was excellent. This was one of the better burgers I've had in Dallas, Texas. The location is a little off the beaten path. If you're looking for service, this is probably not your place. Not that they're not nice or don't want to be helpful. It's just a laid back, hippie kind of vibe where traditional service does not seem to be a priority. If I were in the downtown area and wanted a good burger and entertainment, this place would do just fine. Smiley face

Loved the outside. Inside is creepy. But for a cheap bar; sitting outside, shooting the shit & knocking back a few, this place is pretty cool.

Absolutely love this bar. They have small seating inside but definitely go when the weather is nice and sit outside. Dog friendly so take your pooch! Also try Flea Harvey's once a month. It's a great flea market with terrific vendors selling all kinds of things.

For novelty sake we went to Lee Harvey's last weekend. Lee Harvey's is like Truck Yard but without the things that make Truck Yard bearable. Cheap-ish drinks are the saving grace. Rows and rows of warped picnic tables, random dogs brought by drunk patrons, and live music loud enough to make anyone regret moving to within three blocks of this place really doesn't do it for me.

  • D K.

Really like the vibe at Lee Harvey's. Outdoor patio with firepits, very nice. Dog friendly, very nice. Old decor, very nice. Food, well, nothing memorable here. Perhaps it was a bad night. Grilled jalapeno chicken sandwich was fair at best. Glass of Chardonnay was poured more like a shot, then a glass of wine (7.50 seriously?) I'll probably give Lee Harvey's another try sometime, but it wasn't as great as anticipated.

I think at one point in time I actually fell into the torn part of the taped up booth. And yes, I think that might have been shower curtain taped up to separate the outdoor area and the indoor area. Wall unit for an A/C? CHECK! Did I take a picture with a faded picture that looked like Whitney Houston at age 21 advertising for Michelob as I also held a Michelob? YES! Legend has it that this place was Lee Harvey's mother's old house. So get over yourself if the name bothers you. You are, maybe, drinking amongst history. And if you are hungry, you should also have a very delicious burger and onion rings. (It is better than the crap I had that was supposed to be rated #1 in Dallas and given all these awards.) On Mondays, it is $1 taco nights, Tuesdays it is half off burgers. And any other day you should just go because it's Dallas and you can't find cool dives to hang out anywhere else around can you? Besides that, on SundayFunday, you can bring your dog and there is a double gate for your spayed or neutured pup to roam around and have a blast. You can also get your karaoke on then in the evening as well. I'm just saying that I would be here alls the times. Alls.

I came here for a show (Graceland Ninjas) a few weeks ago. I like the concept: outdoor patio, dog friendly, wooden tables, walk up bar. But unless a guy is sitting with you, you have to wait 45 minutes for a waitress to acknowledge you. Which technically never happened because we ended up walking up to the bar to order. Then there's the food. I like greasy food as much as the next girl, but not if my sandwich is swimming in it. The show was good, but people kept blocking our view. The little boy having a hoe down was cute. The teeny boppers dressed in minis and holey shirts were not. Bottom line, I would not come here again. Food is the main issue here. If it's not memorable, you're forgotten.

I miss when there was a urinal trough on the side of the house. I miss the open fire pits and their unpredictability. I HATE that the yard is now a sea of over-crowded picnic tables, instead of the casual benches and lawn chairs that used to litter the yard. And I hate all the uptowners that have "discovered" lee Harvey's (basically, all you yelpers). But these are all gripes from years ago. It's much worse now, but at least it's not as phony as Truck Yard.

So many specials, so many opportunities for cheap eats. Also, they are dog friendly! Monday is $1 steak and fish tacos and happy hour til 2am. Tuesday is 1/2 price burgers. If you befriend Lee Harvey's on facebook you can compete to be the 5th to respond to their daily post to get a free meal that day. FREE!

Doggie Sundays!!! On Sunday they fence in the patio and turn it into a dog park. This is a great Dallas dive bar. If the weather is nice you should go here.

  • Liss B.

Our first time here and the bartender was super friendly and informative! We love going on Sundays and seeing all of the dogs running around (since we don't have our own pets, but are dog lovers). The place is super laid back and informal, which we love. It's just a short walk from where we live. The picnic tables might need a little TLC, but other than that it's great. The burgers are great, fish tacos meh, vegetarian sandwich meh. Order a burger and a beer here and relax! We've been going every Sunday since we first visited!

Hell, Lee Harvey's doesn't need any more reviews. They're not underground or anything like that and haven't been for years, but it is a great place to hang. Outdoor firepits for cold weather, indoor window unit for warm weather. Well, it isn't really a window unit, but it should be. Bartenders are normally friendly and super-cool. They'll remember ya. Oh, the food--yes, burgers are top-tier. Tacos are greatness. Various sandwiches are substantial and awesome. Check for specials, like $1 taco night (Mondays) and Half-price burger night (Tuesdays) and half-price Wings (Wednesdays). I guess I just told you most of the specials. Anyhow, good place. Parking is great as they have, like, 3 adjacent white rock lots that are all huge. Not a problem. Good music venue too. (please do not compare to "Austin").

I was perusing the reviews of Dallas bars on Yelp and came across Lee Harvey's. I now remember this place. Damn you selective memory. I remember checking this place out on a taco night almost a year ago because the Mavs were on the small TV at the end of the bar. The inside of this place seemed dark and sticky. The outside patio and yard is probably cool when there's a lot of people. The bartender took a while to turn away from his buddies on the other side of the bar to offer me another beer. The onion rings had a way-too-sweet batter on them. The tacos were okay for a buck each. But why do some places put oregano in their fish tacos? Bleh!!

So my wife and I did not like this place. The beer was warm and the food was cold. I know it's a dive bar, but there are plenty of other dive bars I would prefer over this one.

After a long day of jumping around from hood to hood, the lady and I decided to finally stop by Lee Harvey's after a little motivation from the waiter at my favorite neighborhood restaurant, Bolsa. Fantastic idea I must say, as this was the perfect place to just chill out, take back a few beers and enjoy the surroundings. I love how this place just pops up. Its 10:00pm, and we are riding around these dark little streets in what seems to be a mostly vacant area. I'm sure my girlfriend is wondering where the heck I am taking her and then out of no where you see it, a huge lively patio full of people mingling, dancing, eating, drinking, and being merry. Pretty awesome. On a Saturday night, this is some of the best people watching I've come across and everybody just seems to be doing whatever their own thing is and having a good time or trying to recoup from having too much of a good time, but it is so laid back and fun that, that's okay too. The rest of the neighborhood may be a few blocks away, but this place just has that community vibe that I like in a bar. It's that place that everyone in the neighborhood goes to when they just want to get out of the house after being in all day or after a long day of work, or that place that everyone always chooses when the group randomly decides to get together. I am a fan of almost any type of music live or any place that has live music, so I definitely like that aspect to this laid back dive bar on weekend nights. The food was cheap and actually pretty decent here as well and I had the steak and salad. Never would have ordered that by myself but upon urging from an employee I said what the heck, and it turned out to be pretty good. No draft beer here, but they have most mainstream beers you can think of bottled. Not sure about anything else on the drink menu. My girl liked her fish tacos though. Oh, and if you have dogs, this is a great place to bring them with you, probably even better during the day time. Lots of furry friends around. I'll be back.

I like Lee Harvey's. Really. I've been enough times, with enough different people, to have seen a cross section of what a true Lee Harvey's experience is like. The food is great - burgers are best on Tuesday when they're 1/2 price - the drinks are stout, the beer is cold, the prices won't make you feel like you've been Rick Rolled, the picnic table/fire pit yard is best experienced on a chilly night when the stars are twinkling and the smores are in abundance. See. I like Lee Harvey's. What I don't like is the surly staff. I get it. They're all a bunch of cool cats whose secret got out and now they're stuck playing host to the Uptown crowd that decides to slum it for the night. That would piss me off, too. But I'm not one of the Uptown kids giving them attitude for being on the wrong side of the tracks. I'm a great customer. Serve me good food with cold beer and smile at me once or twice and I'll tip the hell out of you and tell all my friends. Lighten up, Lee Harvey's. I don't expect you to kiss my ass but it sure would be nice to not see your lip curl up when you realize I'm not one of your coveted regulars. Really.

I admit that my less than stellar experience was probably my fault. I hope to go back and do things right and hopefully have a 4 star or higher experience. But honestly, the one I had wasn't much to write home about. We went on a random Monday evening. When we got there there weren't many people and we didn't feel like sitting on the patio, so went inside. Big mistake - there really isn't much seating inside and what is there doesn't have any atmosphere to speak oft. The food was ok - not the greatest burger I've had. My boyfriend wasn't impressed with their beer selection at all. What i need to do different is go back when there's more people, sit on the patio, listen to live music. From what I've heard and read now, this place is more about the crowds and entertainment and not so much the atmosphere and food. If it's empty, it's not worth it.

Fantastic bar with many specials. They can get a little busy during happy hour but quickly dies down during dinner. The food is excellent and there is always a special that is worth ordering. They are dog friendly, have fire pits in the winter, and perfectly fine patrons. The only reason this isn't a five-star review is the men's bathrooms, which is a common complaint of mine everywhere. The inside bathroom is the size of a coffin and about as well lit as one, not sure what I urinated into and had to dry hands in hair.

This may not seem very manly but Andy P. and I have been wanting to schedule a play date with our dogs to go to Lee Harvey's for the longest time. We finally made it out there this past Sunday. This place is very dog friendly. The entire patio area is fenced off with a fence enclosure gate the prevents dogs from running out into the street when you make your way into this establishment. I have always had a special place in my heart for dive bars and this place has found its way into it. Drinks are priced decently and I definitely need to make my way here for Taco Mondays. In closing, my Sunday Funday was very relaxing. Well... other than the fact that big ass dogs kept on trying to jump on our table and get our food while my dog was foaming at the mouth from an anxiety attack... But hey it is what is, right? If you're a cat person then go to uptown!

It was a beautiful day and we wanted to do some low key day drinking... well Lee Harvey's it was. This no frills place was the perfect way to spend the day. My only hmm moment was when I needed to use the restroom. The dim green lighting and boarded up bathtub/shower screams horror flick ... eek! We didn't order any food, but the plates coming out the kitchen looked okay. Oh, and loved the not-current jukebox with free credits! Play the entire INXS greatest hits, you got it!

What a really cool bar! Though I tend to frequent lounges and quieter spots, I was in Dallas and wanted to check out a popular local haunt and Lee Harvey's seemed like the perfect place. With the capacity for hundreds of people this is the perfect bar for a night on the town with some friends. In fact, I felt pretty jealous when I saw dozens of tables outside for guests to hang out on all night long. Living in Seattle we just don't have anything like that! The bar looked and felt like a cozy spot for a late night BBQ with friends. But with booze included! There were even set ups for live bands and bowls set out for folks who brought their dogs. It seemed as Texas as Texas can be and I loved it! Didn't try the food when I was there but spotted the menu and everything looked pretty good. Don't expect any award winning cocktails but if you like beer, shots or cheap and easy drinks, this is exactly where you'll want to be all night long.

Lee Harvey's is a good time. It's everything a drive bar should be - laid back and welcoming with surprisingly good food. The place feels like a big backyard with picnic tables, fire pits, and usually a dog or three running around. They have live music (usually cover bands) almost every weekend night, which is always a lot of fun. They mainly have standard domestics and mixed drinks that are always cheap and icy cold. However, it might not be your cup of tea if you're a beer snob. Their weekly food deals are awesome: $1 tacos Monday (my fave), half price burgers Tuesday and half price wings Wednesday. Both the fish and steak tacos are excellent! They may be small, but you can't argue with a tasty $4 or $5 dinner. Their burgers weren't my favorite and I still haven't tried the wings. If you like them on Facebook, they have a friend of the day contest where you can win a free drink and entrée - not bad.

This is my favorite hole-in-the-wall in Dallas. The food is outstanding (the fish tacos are so, so good, and the burgers are excellent as well) and the beer is always so icy and cold. I love that this place is dog-friendly, and the picnic tables + fire pits contribute to the feeling that you're just hanging in a friend's backyard. Lee Harvey's also has awesome deals, like the $1 fish tacos + all-night happy hour on Mondays. Great, great spot.

Finally found the best burger in dallas! Been here a few times before, always had some drinks and enjoyed the place. Last night, I had the bacon cheeseburger and it was pretty damn amazing. I would prob come here weekly, unfortunately there's just not much else around that brings me to the area. Lee Harvey's has a pretty kick ass patio and outdoor area with fire pits for the chilly nights. Def has that Austin vibe I miss soo much!! Check it out! NOW.

Lee Harvey's on a Sunday makes me want to eat a puppy. Let me clarify... The large outdoor patio is alive with action on weekend days. Everyone brings their dog and they have the run of the place. As someone thinking about getting a dog, I found myself saying things like, "When we have a dog we'll have to come here every week" and "I can't wait for my dog to school all these other mutts!" Drinks are cheap and the food is perfect for nibbling while you soak in the sun. Inside the converted house is a U-shaped bar and a small seating area. I prefer the bathrooms inside, though there are a couple outside by the bar. This is a simple place: domestic beers, mixed drinks. The margarita was not great, but that's my problem with the premade mix. I switched to bloody mary's (it was Sunday after all!) and never looked back. Chunks of horseradish and the tang of hot sauce really hit the spot. Check it out when there is live music outside or just come waste a few post-brunch hours staring at and playing with the multiple breeds of dogs keeping everyone entertained. Next thing you know, the sun will be down and you'll have to remember how to get home.

this is one of my favorite Dallas bars. It has character, a pool table, booths in the back for privacy, and a great outdoor patio area with bonfires and benches. Decently priced beers, and some also decent bar food. The panini's are pretty good. I always go during the week and I have plenty of privacy.

Let me preface all of this by saying that I am a textbook reluctant hipster that hates all things hipster. So, when I was first introduced to Lee Harvey's via my love for Geeks Who Drink, I really didn't want to like it. However, I soon discovered that this place is hard not to love. Parking: The neighborhood is very safe, despite how it looks. Parking and walking to the patio is no problem. Service: Easily one of the best things about Lee Harvey's is how awesome their servers are. They're always willing to joke around or make suggestions. Vibe: Super chill and very community oriented. One of my favorite things about Dallas winters is going to Lee Harvey's and huddling around one of their wood furnaces. Their dog friendly attitude is also greatly appreciated and enjoyed. Menu and Price: Here's a random night I enjoyed there recently - I ordered an awesome veggie quesadilla for a great price and was washing it down with an equally affordable Lone Star. Then, a random dude sits down next to us and says he's working for Lone Star. He then gave us free swag just for drinking their beer! So, even though I will still continue to hold angst for most of my hipster brethren, I will never hold any ill will towards Lee Harvey's. Even though I've lost every single "facebook friend of the day" contest I've ever entered.

I'm totally biased. I live in the neighborhood. But seriously is the best bar ever. Cheap drinks, decent pours of liquor, outdoor, live music on Fridays and Saturdays. That should be enough. But wait. When it's cool outside, the fire pits are amazing. And they make a mean hamburger. (Avoid the guac -- it's good, I just feel like $8 for guac/chips is kind of ridiculous). Bottom line: if you're tired of the kids at the Foundry, the uptownness of the Rustic, and the 20s vibe at the Truck Yard, come on down.

I shot by Lee Harvey's yesterday for a late lunch and realized that I had not written a review on my favorite patio and dive bar. Lee Harvey's is seriously not like any bar in Dallas. Lee Harvey's used to be a house, but little can be seen of its old life (minus the creepy shower in the women's bathroom). The inside bar is just a laid back, little side note to the fantastic patio, but you can't ignore the awesome setup of the bar-centric inside that allows you constant and hilarious access to the bartenders who are always a hoot. But seriously, let's talk about the patio. It is beyond awesome in the Spring, Fall and yes even in the cold Winter. As a matter of fact, even when it's cold, there are fireplaces to keep you toasty and you can buy a pack to make s'mores. :) Also, doggies are always welcome as long as they play well with others and are neutered. But let's get to the REAL reason I love Lee Harvey's. It is not the awesome events, sweet people, constant access to four legged friends or the great drink prices... IT IS THE FOOD. Baby... the food is seriously fantastic and is not like any bar food you've ever had because it is quality and seriously delicious. Plus, they make a mean aioli. So give it a try. You will not be disappointed.

What a great laid back outdoor venue! I went with a larger group to listen to a live band on a Saturday night and was impressed. I recommend if you have a larger group to go earlier to save some seats, but it can definitely accomodate large groups, some indoor seating is available. The live music was just okay, I was overly excited about hearing a band with ninjas in the title (elvis ninjas, memphis ninjas, something to that sort) which was elvis with a twist....so they sang current music like elvis. I think I would have perferred elvis music with a current twist but it was still entertaining and free. I thought bud lite in a bottle was over-priced but it wasn't ridiculous either. I had a burger, a really good burger but they give you a ton of food, I couldn't finish it. I look forward to going back to hear a different band in the future.

I've been here twice. I had fun both times. The drinks were great (try the white gummy bear shot! super tasty). The food was even good. So you may be asking why the low stars? I saw a roach I swear it as a foot long go across the bar in front of me as I was eating. I'll NEVER eat here again. Sure I'll drink here but food is a no go. I know toughen up. Well NO it was a huge bug less than a foot away from my food. What kind of bugs are closer to my food? (like where they prepare it? or store it?)

I was recommended this place by some fellow Dallas yelpers. And they were all right about this joint. The menu is simple and not a phone book of junk like a lot of places. The atmosphere is laid back, dim, and comfortable. The food prices are reasonable, and the inside is very dive like. No glitz and glamor just good times here. No need to be dressed up in a suit, just a place to be yourself. I can see myself stopping here everytime I'm in Dallas! The burgers are awesome and the onion rings are top notch. Staff was real nice and knowledgeable. Didn't make me fell like a leper for eating alone. I can imagine this place being jam packed on Friday and Saturday night! This place rocks and Is a must try. Kind of like "Cheers", lol now I want to sing the theme song.

I should tell you all this place sucks so you'll stay away from a spot I love, but I just can't. It's old, groovy, dive-y, the bathrooms haven't been cleaned in probably 6 months or more...and I love it. Lee Harvey's is truly what I think of when I envision a bar in my mind. The inside ambiance of retro Pabst, Schlitz, and other various vice products' signs are great, and the patio is even better. I have always gotten good service here and the food is pretty tasty. I hate that it's kind of out of the way, but it's worth it. I have nothing bad to say about you guys.

Have had this on my "places to go in Dallas" list for a while now. Finally went this week before a concert at Palladium. The patio is really cool and I love the view of downtown. We went on a Tuesday night, which was half price burgers- two beers and two burgers for $15! Great deal. The downside is that they were extremely busy (all the concert go-ers enjoying the beginnings of patio season) and they were not prepared. We sat outside at a picnic table, but there were no servers and you had to go inside to one of the two bartenders to order food and beers (and had to go back up and wait in a long line for each additional beer!). They were definitley not prepared for the crowd. They also ran out of buns and our burgers came on regular bread- which was totally fine- just kind of funny. The burger was good at the time (it was really greasy), but I felt pretty gross for the next 18 hours! I will definitely give it another try on a non-concert night to enjoy the patio- hopefully they will be more prepared!

This is truly as good as it gets in Big D, y'all! This is one of my favorite places to drink outside and here's why: One cold day, our waitress brought me a blanket and started our fire pit Their sandwiches, burgers and salads are all really good! They have PBR and Lone Star... and it's cheap They have great live music every day I had a party there and it kicked some serious butt! They have bug repellent at the bar, free of charge :) THEY LOVE MY DOG AND WELCOME HER ALWAYS! I will say, the valet kind of takes away from the charm, but it's Dallas, so I did kind of see it coming.

My experience here was alright. It is in a shady area, and I wouldn't have stayed after dark unless I had a male friend/my bf with me. I came with a girl friend and we were gone by 8pm, so no problems there. I did love, however, that there were several graveled parking lots. I HATE having to worry about parking when I go out, so that was great. I also appreciated all the tables outside; I never felt cramped. And, I got some cheap, happy hour beer. Always a plus. Service got rocky when my friend and I ordered a burger and onion rings. Several plates of food were brought out to others first (some in my party who ordered after us) before we had to remind the waitress about our food. It's so awful staring at the yummy things everyone else at your table is eating while you get to twiddle your thumbs. Sigh. Onion rings - AMAZING. I could have eaten a plate just of those. Burger - good. Not the best I've ever had, but I was also so hungry by the time it came out, I ate without giving it much thought. I may try this place again. Maybe.

This is a pretty cool joint and totally poocher friendly. So hard to find and have a drinkypoo. I went to meet some new people and have the half priced burger. Man was it great! I'm going to have to check out the $1 Taco night for sure. Its a laid back atmosphere with indoor and outdoor seating. They do have live action but I didn't see any the night I went. I will be going back for sure to check out the usual action.

Bottom line, it was kinda disappointing all around. Especially since I really wanted to like it. Decent dive bar atmosphere with a large outdoor area filled with picnic tables. Band was pretty good, and they pretty much salvaged my experience. Everyone is talking about cheap drinks, but we were not impressed. $4 bottles of beer were ok, but $5 shots of tequila--that were about 2 tablespoons--left my wife unhappy. Considering the divey nature of the place, seems a bit overpriced. I guess this is a hip and high-demand dive bar. Is that an oxymoron? I enjoy dive bars, and they typically have prices to match. Just a note, no drafts only bottles. Got the fish tacos (not dollar taco night) and they were pretty small but had good flavor. Left hungry.

what can i add to the reviews already here? we were lee harvey's regulars before it was discovered by the bud light crowd. and those were the glorious days. luckily when i visit now my fond memories of that time over ride the fedora wearers and the old men asking if we're hired to sit at the bar for "color." oh yeah.. and everything they feed you kicks ass.

super tender burgers and their pickles are out of this world. i went during winter and it was awesome - they had a fire going outside with a live band playing.

I've been to Lee Harvey's multiple and it hasn't disappointed me at all! The food and the patio is what makes me want to come back. I haven't caught a show while going to Lee Harvey's, but I've heard great stuff about it. It's also great that if you "like" Lee Harvey's on Facebook that you can get a chance to get a free meal, if you're quick enough to comment on their status! Don't let the looks of a sketchy neighborhood discourage you, just grab a picnic table with your friends, have a cold one and enjoy!

If you are looking for a dive bar this is not it. There are plenty of dives in Dallas--just go south or east and find a neighborhood where you wonder if it's safe to leave your car unattended and look for the place with a blinking neon sign and bars on the windows. If, on the other hand, you are the type of person who likes to use the term "dive bar" when what you really mean is "a place with its own web page frequented by mostly middle to upper class class white people that is somewhat styled like an old biker hang out," then you'll love this place. In any case, if it's a nice night and you're looking for the best patio/outdoor scene in Dallas, then Lee Harvey's is unequivocally, inarguably the place to be. There's not even any competition. What else could a person suggest? The Amsterdam has a nice patio, but it's also small. And go anywhere north of that and you run the risk of the place being overrun with groups of perpetual frat boys in untucked button down shirts giving high fives and leering at women as if they should be served up on a platter. The food here is good--and cheap on some weeknights. The beer is cold and affordable. And they have liquor, too. If you're looking for service with a smile you are probably going to end up out of luck, but who really cares? The point is to go with a friend or a group of friends, sit outdoors, watch the crowd, and on weekends watch the music.

Maybe I missed what others saw in this place, but yuck! We went to have a beer here today and had to dodge the dog pee to sit on a bench at the picnic tables. I love that it was a dog friendly place, but the dogs were running around wild and going to the bathroom way too close to our table as well as rubbing themselves up against us...and they were filthy from rolling around in the gravel. We will not be back!

This is a great place to hang out, listen to music, watch your puppy kids play and have an all around good guy. Tuesday nights is half-price burgers and Saturday nights is live music. Great place!!

What a great little dive! Very friendly people and the food is good. I especially liked the onion rings and the sauce they serve it with. It's a little dark on the other side of the bar, so don't expect bright surroundings. Outside is where to be when the weather is nice. I had the tacos and they were OK, but I'd love to go back and try more of the menu.

Played gig here once before during the day and had to run off right after playing to another gig. So I did not get to spend much time there and my band mates got me the drinks while I was there. So when my wife wanted to go back I was eager to revisit. Very cool patio and dogs welcome. We didn't make it very far. Walked in the double gate, up to the house, excited to get a beer, stood at the bar while a grumpy bartender moped around taking care of customers. We just seemed to be a major annoyance to him. Maybe he has been working in the bar business too long. I'm always baffled when the bartender doesn't acknowledge you and you have to ask if it's ok to order after standing at the bar for minutes watching them do every thing but ask how they can help you. We left without ordering a single thing. When to another restaurant that wanted our business. Get rid of the grumpy employees! Who wants to put up with that, much less pay $ for it.

If you look up fucking awesome in the dictionary, there is a picture of Lee Harvey's beside it. I do not have enough good things to say about this place! Monday: $1 taco night - steak or fish Tuesday: 1/2 price burger night Wednesday: half price wings All day happy hour on Sunday and feel free to bring your pup for a play date! I love hitting Lee Harvey's before concerts over at Palladium since it's about halfway for me. Last time we went it was Tuesday, and you are seriously missing out if you haven't had this burger. You pick how it's cooked, the cheese, any toppings (may be extra), and whether you want fries, onion rings, or the combo (pick the combo). I had a beer and 2 cocktails with my burger and my bill was $11.16. I'm sorry, was that a mistake? No, no it was not. Lee Harvey's, will you marry me? There is no wait service during the week, but the bartenders are badass. Just tell them what you want and go check back in 15 minutes for food. Live music on the weekends and special events some saturdays. Check out their facebook page, too. They do a contest every day where the 5th person to comment wins a free meal and drink on the bartender's tab.

I am so sad I wasted the last eight years not attending Lee Harvey's. Someone should've put a note in my Welcome Wagon packet explaining about this place, dammit. It went like this: Birthday party. Holy crap, can these directions be RIGHT?! Oh, whew. Sweet fumanchu. Puppy! Fun people. Booze. Grilled cheese. Freaking fries with magical aioli! Booze. More fun people. Make fun of goofy people. Presents! Booze. Outside - smoky!! Booze. Dance. Booze. Yes, I had to wash my hair three times to make it stop smelling like camping, and I don't even care. Nothing else to say - greatness. Just complete awesometown.

Lee Harvey's is awesome. A great patio, which is not a big selling point in the middle of a brutal Dallas Summer. But come October I'm RUNNING, not walking, to the nearest picnic table and making a day of this fabulous place located in what seems like the middle of nowhere. The outdoor area is kind of like going to Adult Camp: There are yard games, a campfire and beer. Great atmosphere and service!

Everyone loves Lee Harvey's and I am not going to decent but I do wish to provide a different point of view on why this place is so damned cool. Most people may know LH when it is a busy hipster hangout with music and a good sized crowd but fewer may realize that LH can be a great place for a quiet drink as well. Lee Harvey's is open during the largely vacant hours between lunch and happy hour on weekdays. When it is empty, LH becomes the world's coolest backyard connected to a cool old house full of classic Americana mantiques. They serve food the entire time so grab a cold beer from the friendly bartender, maybe an order of rings ir a burger and enjoy the enormous patio area under the blue sky on a cool day in Dallas. Try LH when it is quiet. Access from the Cedars Station on the blue or red line. It is a little walk away and is cannot be seen from the station.

Great hole in the wall dive bar with a truly professional staff, went last Saturday for some beers and sat outside, ice cold beers and the food(especially the burgers) looked Awesome! The brunette bartender is very nice and friendly, very welcoming staff. This is an old house,so don't be shocked by the bathrooms,my friend Cindy wasn't a fan of the green shower curtain in the women's bathroom, but it was the master bath in the house :) They have a cool, oldschool juke-box and its an interesting mix of people,Sundays they open the lot next door for dogs.

Before this place got crazy popular, two things of note occurred to me on two separate visits to here: 1.) A crack head tried to sell me an old car battery at the front gate. 2.) A large goth girl (woman?) told me in a very off-hand way that she was going to stab me if I didn't order her a drink, only realizing after she'd said it that she thought I was someone else. Cheapish drinks and relatively nice staff combine with what was once a very eclectic group of drinkers. Now, as I understand it, the hipster swarms have overcome the place. May it rest in peace.

Saw The BAcksliders on New Year's EVE and it was a GREAT show, fire pits outside where lit up, the night was perfect, music was great. IF you get to see KIM PENDELTON and The BAcksliders at Lee's? FOR FREE???? C;mon! Got to go there. Service and staff were exceptional. Miss you Seth, but next time bud.

I SOOOOOO want to give this place 5 stars but can't. The food is great, location great, atmosphere great, chill laid back vibe great! BUT...SERVICE is shitty. I can't blame the servers though. I've been going here for awhile. It used to be Dallas' best kept secret, for the Cedars residents and those "in the know." Thanks to Yelp and word of mouth, this place boomed with an influx of people from all over. The secret is out and I don't think Lee Harvey's has the waitstaff/bartenders who can handle high flows of activity. They may have been great for slow days and limited clientele, but throw a full house (or even a quarter full house) and they get in the weeds very quickly leading to "less than desirable service. Went there last Sunday when it was raining (hint...means it was unusually slow). So walk up to the bartender to place drink/food order. He was curt and appeared that I was inconveniencing him. I overheard him say to another bartender "Man I'm just ready to leave this place." (It gets better)...So, in comes a waitress, clearly frustrated at I don't know what, and I hear her say, "I need to get out of this service industry." And that was on a slow afternoon. Other days we have been there service was about the same. Beware of the old bartender lady. She can pretty testy too. In short, great place but they need new servers/bartenders who can actually handle the patrons coming to this place. Still great place to go. Just don't expect great service. Or a happy smiling face. You may be having a good time there, but those who work there clearly are not.

Jeez, I don't yelp for ages, then I get on a kick. While making my dog list, I had to come put my 2 cents on Lee Harveys: Cool vibe, diverse group of people, the opposite of pretentious Little house, big yard, party all the time Fire pits Outdoor movies Good bar food!! Buckets O Beer!! picnic tables!! Off leash Doggie fun (Sundays only) Great specials, every day Friendly service Live music or juker, no unch unch EVER Can't go wrong, another great place to bring out of towners - they would never suspect a place this cool would be in DALLAS :) I think the me of a few years ago would probably tried to move in this place - it really is a house! Luckily, the me now is happy to just visit. Often. See you there??

So many great reviews representative of a great place! What a wonderful bar! When the weather is fair, the patio is one the best places to spend an evening with friends. When it's cold, it's even better with the fire pits. The bar provides firewood for your pleasure, and you go home with the wonderful smell of campfire. I won't be doing laundry any time soon! It can be hard to find the first time you come, so make sure you pack that GPS for the camping trip. There is live music and food specials on particular nights that are great too. Highly recommended!

What a great place, lots of friendly staff and great atmosphere. I love the food hard to beat the cheese burger and onion rings. The drinks are strong their not stingy with the alcohol. Definitely. Two thumbs up! We went when the band Naked Lunch was playing, a Steely Dan Tribute Band. I was impressed at the band and restaurant. Kinda sad at all the adults playing "the Fonz" riding there on their neon hogs. It looks like a bad Flomax commercial.

I introduced Caroline H and her gentleman friend to Lee Harvey's last night for the Yelp & Dallas Moustache Movember Happy Hour. Although they're more yacht club, I think they had a great time. Here are few pointers: - Grab the closest seat possible to a furnace outdoors, cause it gets nipply out there in the winter months! - Bring a few dollar bills for the jukebox - Go on a Monday or Tuesday for sweet food deals. The dollar tacos on Mondays are the size of my palm (and I have small hands!), so order two more than you think you'll eat. - The drinks are poured heavy here, so be prepared for your Maker's with ginger ale to taste more like Maker's on the rocks. - And no, your car isn't going to get broken into. Grab a seat, enjoy your fellow bar mates and chillax. And don't say chillax in there... you'll get funny looks.

S'mores. Lee Harvey's had me seriously wanting some s'mores. Maybe I was finally feeling hungry after my ginormous lunch at Pepe's or perhpas it was the camp fire like environment outside of this low key bar. Whatever it was I kept hoping someone would hand me a few marshmallows on a stick. And while you're at it...don't forget the graham crackers and bar of chocolate. Unfortunately, there are no s'mores on Lee Harvey's menu, but there is tasty looking bar food fare (didn't get the chance to actually taste it) and plenty of drinks to choose from. The people who work here are super sweet (especially Kaz). Oh, and don't be concerned about the big dude following you out to your car when you leave. Apparently they do this for safety reasons. Hmmm....next time I may bring some mace in addition to those marshmallows.

The bartenders had that too cool to care attitude but took care of their guest making sure we were fed and hydrated. There was a chicken wing special that was going on this wed. Scott picked up the tab and also managed to cover my Red Bull. We played Mrs. Pacman on the vintage arcade console. Played some Blondie, Portishead, and Beatles on the FREE jukebox. Casual spot. My first time here was impressive. The girls at work keep telling me to try roadrunner sandwich. The patio looks like the perfect spot to host the ironic cover bands that play there. "Austinish" with the Dallas cool.

BYOS is owner approved, via the owner's PR representative - Kaz. Kaz emailed me the other day to say, and I quote, "yes, you are always welcome to bring your own s'mores!". Man, I love this bar.

I discovered Lee Harvey's a few years ago, and have never had a bad experience. They've always been kind to me and to any dogs I happened to bring. On weekends, they close the gate for Dog Day Afternoon, when your socialized pup can roam the fenced grounds while you sip a beer. Not many places in Dallas offer that opportunity, for sure. Of COURSE it's in a shady area. The folks in Highland Park aren't going to let someone operate a bar in their yard, in the middle of a residential neighborhood. That said, the food is better than you'd expect from a dive. Prices are reasonable. And on occasion, you can catch some decent musical acts. This quirky, unique watering hole will continue to be a regular stop for me and my friends.

Patio Time!!! Good thing Spring is starting to rear it's ever elusive head, because I was getting a little antsy for some warm rays on my face. The Ice Queen is a bitch. Doesn't she know how us Dallasites rely on our patios for some fun!? Well Lee Harvey's is all patio! There is a section before the bar's entrance that lends itself to some outside experiences that can be enclosed in that plastic stuff they use as substitutes for windows. It is also great for some live music, which I did enjoy last Friday night. The actual inside bar is teeny and definitely not why people visit. Well, except for the rad jukebox and gnarly, gas station seats. Lee Harvey's reminded me of this secret, hidden hide out only a few people know about and what happens at Lee Harvey's stays at Lee Harvey's. It is not easy find for the first time, it is in between warehouses south of Dallas and is not visible from the streets. I have heard great things about the burgers and unleashing of the dogs on Sunday, which gives me even more incentive for returning.

Great place to hang out and listen to live music. Dogs are even welcome, which is a big plus. The front lawn has a bunch of picnic tables and seating, which gives plenty of options, especially on a busy Friday night.

Low key dive bar. The onion rings are the best I've ever had.You must dip them in the aioli they are served with! Half price burgers on Tuesdays are absolutely awesome. If going on a Sunday be aware of doggy day! They kind of run loose and it can be a lil uncomfortable if you are not a dog person.

When Ambiance is a factor- this is the place! The burger is above average, the fries and onion rings are delicious and the service is pretty good! There's a good smoke flavor to the burger, thick cheese and world class buns. Yes, it's the hood- complete with random dogs and sirens in the near distance. The tables are old wooden picnic tables, the bathrooms have the "no you can't see your veins in this bathroom" colored lighting. But the live music in the evenings is good, the fire pits are warm and beer flows. Did I mention friendly, fast service?! During the day it's a place to grab an awesome burger with friends. Give it a shot, you won't be disappointed.

Photos and descriptions will not tell the story correctly for this amazing little dive bar in the Cedars area of Dallas. Located in a slowly gentrifying area of Dallas (nice new developments equally surrounded by the hoodiest of hoods), you may feel insecure upon arrival but I assure you...I have been there many many many times and have never heard word of damage, theft, or personal safety issues for anyone. Lee Harvey's is mainly designed for you to be outside. Chiefly because their interior probably hold 32 people legally, 46 or so comfortably. The exterior has covered areas, uncovered picnic benches on a rock gravel yard, and plenty of help in battling some of the extremes of Texas weather. Their happy hour drinks are so good. Great size, great prices, and made in a way that will not make you feel like you're getting shafted...even at evening full prices you feel as though it's a good value. But, besides an ideal dive bar atmosphere (ugly bath room, darkly lit bar, the feeling of almost entering a trailer), the thing you HAVE to do is eat here. I have eaten two of my top 3 favorite burgers ever in this place. One is their standard cheeseburger, the other was a potentially limited run Erik's Tillamook Pepper Jack Cheeseburger (pepper jack cheese, marinated portabellas, jalapenos) that was a moist spicy and sweet combination that has a mental battle in my head daily for my favorite burger of all time. (The other one is in Paris, TX at Buffalo Joe's).. Live music on Friday and Saturday nights...and not your typical bar shitty top 40, classic rock, country cover bands. They pull in groups who are doing fun side projects (covers mostly) outside of their usual artistically valuable work. In other words, world class musicians and performers who are goofing off with style. The outside is dog friendly, as long as your dog is friendly. The second half of that sentence is VERY important. One of my favorite places.

Lee Harvey has been shot! Want a big place to just go hang out and enjoy a cool Dallas night? Want listen to live music al fresco? Want to enjoy some great bar food? Want all this and have great drinks at the same time? Then head to Lee Harvey's. The actual building is much too small to be enjoyed by more than 30 people at a time, but Lee Harvey's real draw is their large open yard full of picnic tables, a stage and sound system. This is where my friends and I spend most of our time. You can listen to some of the coolest bands, usually without a cover charge. Of course there are a few reasons to go inside, namely the pool table, juke box (when a band isn't playing), kitchen and the bathrooms. The men's bathroom is somewhat of a altar to every truck stop in the west. There are more messages carved or marked on the walls and ceiling than I've ever seen anywhere else. The food and drinks are always good, never had a problem. I enjoy the burgers and fries. They have great deals during the week, including half priced burgers on Tuesdays. Great for those weeks when you are "sick" on Wednesday. Add them to your libations rotation!

When you are in the mood to kick back somewhere low key and enjoy a beer and some great pub grub, check out this dive bar. Indoor seating is very limited (three booths, although there's never been more than one occupied on the two occasions I've been so far). There's a lot more seating outside and I gather it's the more "popular" place to sit. The onion rings and portabella quesadillas are amazing. The only thing I don't like is that nobody comes by the table to take your order--you have to get up and wait at the bar a minute or two to get the bartenders' help every time you want to add something to your order. I don't know if it's that way if you sit outside, though--maybe they have wait staff out there. Anyway, in a way it contributes to the dive bar feel so I'm OK with it. I'm sure we'll be back many times.

I really wish I had come on a busier night-but it was chilly and rainy and that is a combination that apparently kills a place like this(most all seating is outside or on the covered but open air patio). I would have loved to have seen this place in full swing and see the kind of crowd it gets. As it was I had a good time. I sat at the bar and nursed a few beers while watching the bartender argue with a patron about how popular the Superbowl will be here in Dallas. While we did that we were watching the Pack destroy Atlanta on the one ancient TV above the bar-every time the back door was opened the set completely lost the picture. It was hilarious(come on-if I was really wanting to watch the game I would have been at a sports bar)and the fact that it didn't piss me off seemed to earn me some cred as I got a couple of strong drinks to toast with the bar staff(couldn't tell you what it was-whatever they were drinking). After a while some regulars started coming in-and I had to love the vibe. Anyplace that lets a dog stand on his hind legs at the bar like he is ordering is OK in my book. The vibe is cool, staff was great, drinks are strong, and the tv reception sucks. What more can a boy ask for? I will def. be going back-probably on a Monday next time for the taco special!

It's very simple - if you like a good dive bar, this is you're place. If you don't, you should probably stay away. Great for a warm evening with outside seating. Also awesome place for large groups who want to play drinking games.

We were going to grab some barbeque at The Baby Back Shack (great food by the way), which is right next door to Lee Harvey's, but came across Lee Harvey's as it was packed and the music was blaring. I had a good feeling as I was walking up to the open patio. There are picnic benches where you eat your food, so we sat down and were immediately waited on. The band was jamming, the ambience was chill, and the crowd was mellow and laid back (stuck up types should stay away). The service was good and the food was awesome. My hubby had a burger, which he thought was pretty darn tasty (it was juicy and well seasoned). I had the fish tacos, which were fantastic, however they were VERY spicy. Oh, and the onion rings were absolutely delish! It began to rain while we were there, but they have a small bar section that is covered, so we moved to that section and continued on. This is not the place you go to for the surroundings (it is not located in the best part of town), however if you just want to hang out with some cool peeps, eat some good food and hear some equally good music (we went on a Friday night), this is the place. This spot is truly a hidden jewel.

Lee Harvey's is fast becoming a favorite place of mine. I love the fact that it's pretty much all patio. One of the best in Dallas, fo' sho! Live music here is really fun to watch, too! I've seen a few bands here and I've enjoyed each one. The food here is usually pretty top notch. I friggin' LOVE the burgers. I took my dad here for his birthday two years in a row, and this year, he wanted a burger. It was good, except we were disappointed in the bread. Usually it's hot, soft, and buttered. The bread we got was neither. It tasted stale, like it had been out for a while. It kinda made the whole burger not-so-great. I'll be back again, though, and hopefully the next one I order will return the Lee Harvey's Burger back to its glory.

This place is definitely a diamond in the rough. I know lots of people will say the area is suspect but I'm sure you noticed that when you looked up how to get there so you should have come to terms with that by the time you arrived. I was really impressed with the simple things that seemed to make this place so cool. The gravel yard and the picnic tables who needs bottle service and making reservations just roll up early get a table & some cheap beer. I got to see the King Bucks live which was one of my main reasons to go so Vlade was happy with that. The music was good and the beer was cold. I did notice that the staff was very friendly & the busboy was working extra hard trying to keep up with that vast amount of beers that all the people were drinking. We parked across the street and no need for valet or a long walk is just a welcome sight in this city. The crowd was definitely a eclectic mix of people with some having fun, getting full before they head out somewhere else. I did think it was funny we seen a stumbling drunk guy that was wandering the area close to where I parked my car he must have started earlier then I did. I couldn't tell if he was looking for a place to piss or he was just lost, Oh well he was harmless. That incident just made me think even in this area the drunks are there to drink like the rest of us or maybe he was looking for the entrance to keep the party going. I will be back maybe this time I can get a table and a few more friends to show up.

The best (and one of the only) TRUE dive bars in Dallas complete with worn out booths, smelly bathroom, the occasional bug on the wall, and super friendly people. South of downtown with the skyline peaking through the trees, this is my favorite spot on these warm summer nights. You can always count on a good mix of people, from hipsters to the 30-somethings, all enjoying the strong drinks and live music (on the weekends). The food is pretty damn good too. Defiantly not your typical Dallas scene, which is probably why I like it so much.

I love dive bars. And what I love almost as much is a good outdoor area. Lee Harvey's is exactly that. It's like Double Wide but more of the outdoorsy part. Great place to catch a local show. Was here for the Rockers vs Mods show and it was fun to people watch. Would definitely go back again.

Pros: Decent burger and onion rings (I have very high burger standards so read that as good burger), surprisingly tasty grilled fish tacos, chipotle aioli. Doggy friendly if you please. Unique atmosphere. Wide spectrum of clientele. Cons: Not a good location for bar hopping, but perhaps that's not the point.

Living in DFW for your years, I had never been to Deep Ellum. BUT that all changed Labor Day weekend and I was introduced to this wonderful dive bar. A good friend and fellow Yelper, Tisha E. usually meets friends for $1 Taco night on Mondays. Let's just say you need to go to Lee Harvey's for $1 Taco night. On Labor Day, we decided to go have a few beers and some $1 Taco. This was probably one of the best times I've had at a bar next to seeing Graceland Ninjaz here (but we'll get to that later)! They sell buckets of beer and you can bring your dogs especially on Sundays! Getting back to Graceland Ninjaz...they were playing here the following Saturday so a friend decided to celebrate her 30th b-day here. Lee Harvey's was crowded and everyone was here to see the Graceland Ninjaz! They were amazing and are a must see if you never have! I'm definitely looking forward to returning to Lee Harvey's! Come discover this dive bar in Deep Ellum.

I had an okay time here. Ordered one drink at happy hour, a burger, and the onion rings. The burger and onion rings were okay but took 25 minutes to come out. In the meantime, they brought 4 other people's orders out... 2 were in my party & ordered after I did -- and one was the same order as mine. I finally flagged down the waitress/bartender and then our food was out 5 minutes later. Here was my issue: I was checking the final amount with tip on my receipt to record after I arrived home and noticed that they charged me for 2 drinks, and I only ordered one. I checked with my friend to make sure they hadn't put hers on my receipt, but one drink was all she ordered and that was all that was on her tab. So I politely called the next morning when they opened to let them know what had happened. I spoke with a guy who basically laughed at me for calling and told me that there was nothing he could do, that they couldn't change an amount on a credit card. I let him know that I didn't appreciate being charged for something I didn't order, and that I would appreciate it if he would do something to make it right (he could have at LEAST apologized). He finally asked for my name, the last 4 digits of my card, and the expiration date, and told me he would call me back. 5 days later, I have received no call. I will not be going back to this place. I understand an honest mistake, but I have no respect for employees who do no want to make any effort to make it right. I'd rather spend my money elsewhere, on something I actually bought.

Do I have something to add to my last review? Um....if you call finding one the best burgers I've had in Dallas "a little something to add"....then......YES. So, if you are a friend of Lee Harvey's on facebook, you know that at 2pm every day, they do the "Lee Harvey's facebook friend of the day" contest....first person to respond on their status update gets a free cocktail and entree that evening. I had noticed this a few times, thought it was a cool idea...and one day I refreshed my facebook and there at the top popped up that post. No responders yet. SO I just typed "Yay" in the field and sure enough, I won. Free dinner? Yes please! I always considered this t be a place to go when teh weather was nice, since the inside is so small.....but I did remember that they have fire pits going outside in the yard, etc. Lance and I head out there, find a booth, I look over the menu but already knew that I was going to use my free entree to try this famous burger I've heard about. It was Monday, dollar taco night, So lance ordered 4 tacos......two fish tacos and two ribeye tacos. The food was delivered, and we were both amazed by the size and look of my hellacious burger. The tacos were kinda puney, but hey, they were only $1.....the ribeye tacos were decent, kind of bland...the fish tacos were better due to the chipotle sauce they had on them. NOw for the main story...that BURGER! Holy crap, the bun was almost sweet and had melted butter on the top...and perfectly toasted. The meat was thick, cooked medium like I ordered it, and the kind of juicy that has you rolling up your sleeves and using multiple thick napkins. I put all the fixins on it, the lettuce, tomatoes, red onion and sweet pickles....spread a tiny bit of mayo on the bun.....and then inhaled that thing. Lance took a bite and couldn't speak for about 5 minutes.....and than all he COULD talk about was how surprisingly good that burger was. Being the good girlfriend that I am, I cut him off another quarter of the burger to have....and he relished every bite. After a good time talking about how he had no idea they had this burger, or even served food for that matter, I filled him in that the next evening was actually half-price burger night. So what did we do? You guessed it.....hoofed it back up there the next night and each got our own juicy burger. This burger is in my top 3 of Dallas burgers. Haven't had it yet? That's your own fault, moron.

Okay, okay... I know I've already sung (?) sang (?) singed (?) ;) the praises of the joy and wonder that is Lee-m'f'ing-Harvey's. I know it's awesome. You know it's awesome... there is no question. Big, fat DUH. SO! This review is for a little somethin' called FLEA Harvey's. Have you heard about this?? I think the fine folks over at LH's started this amazing drinking/eating/shopping extravaganza 3 or 4 months ago. On the first Saturday of every month, from 10ish until 5ish - vendors flock to the yard and set up their tables o' goods! You'll find everything from vintage typewriters, creepy old toys, books, eclectic art, typical flea-market-y type kitsch, collectibles AND beautiful handmade jewelry from local Etsy artisans. What better way to start your Saturday than to peruse unique trash, treasures and handmade delights while enjoying a Bloody Mary (or three) and delicious breakfast taco (or three)?! Oh Lee Harvey's... when will you stop being so m'f'-ing cool!?

I have to say to everyone who is not a regular here: BEWARE- there are some REALLY UNFRIENDLY regulars that go to Lee Harvey's! Since my first review I've taken a ridiculous amount of verbal abuse from Lee Harvey's diehard fans/regulars for calling this place out on their unposted contest rule and writing about my bad experience. The fallout I've received can best be described as a lot of one-sided name-calling, mean-spirited jokes, and loose threats-- really immature words-- like stuff you'd expect to hear from a bully in junior high school. The weirder part is that it's coming from people who only know LH's half of the story, whom I've never met, spoken to, or personally done anything to. (This message here is the extent of my speaking to them.) ------------ To set the record straight for the people who only know LH's side of the story: LH could make up a 7-day rule, 2-week rule, or a yearly rule and it would be fair as long as it was written somewhere or at least told to people who had won already. I entered their contest on a whim only two times, without any reason to calculate how many days/weeks/months passed in between my entries-- I just happened to win both times, 3 weeks/about a month apart, but a few days shy of their 30-day rule that I had no way of knowing about. I was not trying to cheat anyone else out of their chance at a free meal by constantly entering this contest, as someone has accused. Geesh! My point always was and still is that it's very bad customer service to revoke a prize that a customer won based on a rule posted AFTER the customer won. Furthermore, it is absolutely shocking how LHs has allowed/encouraged their regulars to verbally beat me for bringing up the unfairness of this situation that they created. I've never experienced something like this in my entire life. At this point I don't expect Lee Harvey's has a cool owner who will ever be apologizing for all of this. If I could I would give this place a NO STAR rating.

I was very disappointed!!! The atmosphere was ok, got there around 7:45pm and not many people there, which was nice. We had a large group and only 1 person took care of us, that wasn't too bad either, until everyone else got their food except for my husband and myself. No one came to check on us and after everyone was almost finished with their meals, we got served ours. At that time, I requested to speak to the manager and I guess the guy who brought our food, who was NOT our waiter, by the way, just smiled and said "yeah". I don't think he understood english since no manager came out to speak to us, but right after getting served our waiter was looming over us with our check and stood there waiting for us to pay it!!! The food was not good at all. I got the chicken panini, which had more bread than chicken and a salad that was just ok-I can make better at home!! Oh we did pay the bill which was $24.90-the waiter got a 10 cent tip!!!! Oh well-I may go back to hang out and catch a good band, but will not eat here again!!! I'm glad I waited until after I ate to go to the bathroom-what a mess!!!! This place needs an overhaul inside for sure!!! game area had 2 old, ripped up couch type benches that had duck tape all over them-YUCK!!!!

When I go to Lee Harvey's, I feel like I am back in Austin. It is primarily an outdoor venue, but there is some indoor seating and a pool table. I have heard some great bands there, but warning it can be hit and miss. I enjoyed my hamburger and fries. It is a great place to hang out.

Really cool unique vibe. Lee Harvey's is the kind of joint you'd expect to find in Austin, not Dallas. I don't really know what to say that hasn't already been said. If you're into striped shirts and popped collars, keep driving, Lee Harvey's ain't for you.

This place is a bar of bars. Very dingy and dim lit. I could see lots of people having a great time and getting messed up here. A cool area to hang out front with lots of seating. Inside was about so dim lit you could't see after being outside in the sun. Bathrooms were especially nasty. This is a classic bar. Some people were smoking weed openly out front. This seems to be in an area where you can do what you want as long as it is not too bad. I give it three star for being a fun place. This seems to be a local hangout.

So we went here b/c a band my friends and I like (Petty Theft) was playing there this past Saturday. None of us had ever been there, so one of my friends had read a few of the Yelp reviews to tell us about this place. Basically what she read was they had good burgers and people liked the place. Well on the Saturday that we went, it was really warm during the day. That night when we went, we were all wearing jeans and short sleeved shirts just b/c it was so hot during the day. We got there about 7:30 p.m. and apparently the temperature had dropped 20 degrees or so b/c we were freezing when we got out of the car. Also, we were a little over dressed for what kind of bar it was. We did not know that the band plays outside and there are picnic benches and gravel everywhere. If you wear heels, just be careful. Also, you can either park on the street or there is a grass and dirt lot across the street that people just randomly park there car in. We were able to find a bench next to a fire pit and it kept us somewhat warm, but everyone wanted to be around the fire pit, so sometimes people were blocking our heat. Also, if you sit next to the fire pit, be prepared to smell like smoke and fire for the next 24 hours. I would definitely go back if I was more prepared clothing wise. Also, the burger and onion rings that my friend and I shared was pretty good as well!

Lee Harvey's has become my favorite place to go!! The food is frickin' fantastic, and there is always some great live music on the weekends. I totally recommend this place to anyone that is looking to get out of the house. Lee Harvey's is very versatile too, from hippy-esk people to white collar's... I am always pleased with how many different people come out and enjoy themselves at this cool hang out, I have never felt out of place and always have a good night when at Lee Harvey's. They are kids and pets friendly, and have lots of seating for everyone. See you out soon!

I really like this place, but it's a little far from Plano. The good news is you can take the DART to it. The burger here is great!!! It's one of the few burgers that make me not want to grill. That's high praise, holmes. I liked the buffalo wings, and I really want to try the tacos....but that burger keeps me coming back to it.

Definitely one of the best hangout places for the dog-lovers, also there to munch on some mean delicious burgers and to just chill under the sun with drinks! Getting there, I thought I went on the wrong side of the area because when I was going through a dicey part of the neighborhood, but that is what made the place interesting to go to. I had no problem finding a place to park, despite that it's street parking. Then I saw the sign on the place, it was surrounded with fences for the dogs to roam around while the owners sitting outside at the patio. My advice is in order to make this place your best experience ever, you must love dogs, otherwise you would want to get out of that place as quick as possible.

Great bar, great place to hang out with friends and strangers. Probably loses a star or two when it's too hot outside, or on Sundays when the place is packed with doggies and though they're cute, their poop stinks the place up.

Yes, yes, yes. Dive bar with straightshooting service, good jams, great burgers and an awesome patio. It was raining the night I came, but there was an obvious congregation of loyalists who felt right at home. This is where I had my first Lone Star. Just in town for the weekend, I had vowed to only drink Texas brews. Friday night, Shiner. Saturday, Saint Arnold Lawnmower. Come Sunday, I asked the bar keep at Lee Harvey's what it should be, and the simplicity and assuredness of his answer was nirvana. Lone Star. It was, by far, my favorite.

And many months later I'm still stuck in Philly. However, I have to say that yes, Lee's pops into my head a lot. The Facebook contests are a great way to promote the bar and the contests are *fair* despite what's been said. The online community promoter is super cool, very funny and pretty darn accommodating even with crazy. No one should have to put up with crazy but it's happened and was handled well by Lee's online personality. The bar isn't "trying" to appear to be anything except Lee Harvey's. It's a bar, in a small old house, with a porch, a screen door, a front yard with picnic tables, an outdoor bar and deck and fire pits in a neighborhood that may seem "sketchy" to some with people (you know, the long time neighborhood residents) who may seem "sketchy." Is sketchy the new word for "they're not like 'us!'"? Well behaved dogs are welcome outside. Inside is for me perfecto: small, warm in vibe and comfy. The bartenders are nice and they're actually pretty darn fast. Then again, I'm nice and I don't freak out and expect bartenders to make a drink magically appear before me the second I sit down *especially* when the place is packed. The bar can become very crowded very quickly late night but that crowded can be ridiculously fun if you're a social bee like me. Unless you're one of those people who need the uptown 5-feet-of-personal-space-so-I-appear-aloof type. I suggest you go to *that* bar and leave Lee's for those who are A-OK with a bar that's not trying to impress anyone. The food is yummy. Better than most bar food I've had in my travels and in the places I've lived (a lot of places). For those complaining about greasy burgers: you're in a BAR. Heeeellooooo! I've had *muuuch* worse in bars and restaurants which are supposed to be up-market. I will eat their munchies any day, any time! For those complaining about dogs, well, too bad. Lee's likes dogs and it's great that Dallas has a place that is dog friendly where people can come together with their pooches and have a beer and a taco. There should be many more dog friendly places in Dallas! Dogs are a great social lubricant, except for those who don't like dogs and who aren't social but like to complain a lot. I think every city needs a Lee's. They can send Bacon's Bits on tour to each bar. If you don't know ask the bartender.

As dive as south Dallas gets. I liked it because it was very chill (went on a Wednesday), and where in LA can you bring a dog to a bar?

  • Dena F.

Groovy little joint. I agree with Rickster that it's a wanna-be dive bar. It is where folks go to play down. At first glance I thought it might actually BE a dive...but when the band started playing "Bang A Gong" and someone goes "ohmygod it's the Power Station song. I luuuuuv that song." I was like "ohmygod someone hold my hair." Don't get me wrong. I can play down. I'll do a Redneck Prom Party any day. I have my maternity Jack Daniels motif prom dress back from the cleaners. I'm sorry, but I found half the people there fun and the other half pretentious. Now if I were me I'd tell myself that if I don't like the general public then I should not go out into them. So I got me another beer and was all three of us were fine. My friends that went with me were fine also. I'll go there again. The outdoor area is a lot of fun. I loved the fires and the folks who worked there were nice and helpful. The neighborhood is in transition. Valet is necessary for a gal. The guys waiting ahead of me for the valet to bring their car around...pretending that every lower-brow car than their benz was theirs...in a mocking "look I'm getting into this crappy van way" needed their butts kicked. This is where I take a deep breathe and remind myself about the public rule again.

Lee Harvey's is what a Dallas hang out bar should be. Eclectic, diverse, fun, casual, and cheap. A lot of the negative reviews of this are from the people that don't understand that a dive bar is supposed to be a little dank. It makes everyone relax a little bit more and feel comfortable. Sort of the opposite of the vibe you get in uptown. The best thing about the place is really the live music. Usually on a weekend a band will be playing on the front porch of the house and most of them are actually good. This is a distinct difference fmor 95% of the live "music" in Dallas bars which completely suck. I'd avoid the food. Stick to the beer. Despite this the place is fun enough for me to really enjoy it. Oh, and they have a resident kitty named Bacon. How cool is that? You can't dislike a bar with a mascot kitty (unless you're allergic I suppose). 4 Stars -Greg

Great place. I love Lee Harveys. It is way more Austin than Dallas. A great hang out and I have always had good times there. I do basically get lost and turned around every time I have gone down there though. Definitely off the beaten path.

Shabby chic/biohazard waiting to happen. Filthy and kinda sorta fun? Not sure why the Dallas Board of Health lets this place operate. If MRSA and a possible foodborne illness are what you're looking for in a hip dive, then Lee Harvey's is there for you.

    (1)
  • Catherine C.

Its neon signs may be older than the regulars, but this south Dallas dive is a worthy destination for more than beer. Every weekend, live music is always excellent and there's never a cover, whether you're hearing top regional indie rock or pitch-perfect tribute bands like Le Cure, Legendary Psycho Pony and Naked Lunch. The volume allows conversation around picnic tables on their gravel patio (which, in winter, is heated by fire pits). Food-wise, whether ordering a burger or tacos you can't go wrong -- and they're now open for lunch. During Sunday's "Dog Day Afternoon" well-behaved fixed canines and their friends are allowed off leash.

Good bar, but the live bands make this a great place to visit. This has a "front yard" feel to it, since it is surrounded by a residential area. Drinks are strong, and when Naked Lunch plays, things really liven up.

Take everyone you know that is not from Dallas to Lee Harvey's. I'm sick of our plastic reputation and Lee Harvey's aims to destroy it. Thank you Lee Harvey's. And, FYI, the grilled cheese sandwich and homemade pickles are amazing,

I get a feeling that I, along with several of the recent reviewers of Lee Harvey's may have brushed shoulders or kicked up some gravel together this past Independence Day--if so, hello hello in the light of--well, not day, but, computer screen? I had not been to Lee Harvey's until this past Friday, the 4th, and I couldn't have picked a better day to break my cherry at this locale. I had a loverly time. As I sat down at one of the picnic tables (mad cred here!!! I love picnic tables, it relaxes even the most uptight among us Dallasites), lit up a cigarette (more cred to yas), the bar tendress of supercool individuality was there in an instant and man was I pleased as punch--or should I say, Lone Star!!!!! to hear that they had--well, you get it, Lone Star. I'd so give Lee Harvey's 5 stars if the band (which, in my opinion, kicked it with some mad individuality and a mixture of instruments you almost NEVER hear in Dallas) took a break long enough to throw in another band for 30 minutes or so, or a little juke box/loud stereo to mix things up a bit, just long enough to give those of us withOUT ADD (I'm not in that group, so if I dig what's playin', I can dig it all night long, but yeah, 30mins of something else is super cool for a little splash of fun)... Anyway, I had a damn fun time, got drunk, which I have not been in I don't know how long...and yeah...nothing scary about this place whatsoever. Get over it, fellas. Nice staff, nice clientelle....great view of the colour spark fire things--fiiiiireworks, that's it...but who cares when you're diggin' on the people, atmosphere, drinks, n music?! I'll be back!

This place was totally awesome. Outdoor beer garden, lots of tables, live music on a Saturday night, buckets of Shiner... and even roller derby girls! What more could you ask for? Well, I did drop a star because the bar service was rough. The bartenders seemed totally overwhelmed and it took us a good ten minutes to get our drinks. It seemed like a small price to pay for a fantastic evening, though. There are tons of picnic tables in the open area out front, which makes this a great place to bring a group. Next time I find myself in Dallas, I imagine a trip to Lee Harvey's will be involved!

Zombie movies could be shot here. That's a good thing. The staff is nice enough - actually allowed my friends to shoot a short film here... so i wasn't just being clever. The bathroom is a bit of a graveyard. Who cares? Drinks are cheap - after a few, you won't care either. Close quarters inside; enough room for gymnastics outside. The bar is all schtick: screen door that complains when you open it; wood paneled walls; vintage 70's Michelob adverts hanging on the walls; Galaga pushed into the corner; etc. etc. By virtue of the bar being hard to find, Dallas douche bags give-up the hunt and resign themselves to Greenville Ave. OK with me.

Absolutely love Lee Harvey's. It's got a great laid-back atmosphere, non-ridiculously priced drinks, good food (great burger), usually has a good crowd of normal people. There's usually a live band outside on weekends and a DJ inside. If you're not familiar with that area of Dallas, you might want to double-check the directions before you go.

Woohoo is right! I lurve this place! I had heard of Lee Harvey's for a while before I came for the first time. A group of my homies and I came here and we all wondered the same thing ... Where the F have we been?! This place is super chill, and unlike any other bar in Dallas. It may be hard to find a parking space, especially on a good night. Find a spot on the street and leave yo car. It's not the best area of town, but I don't think you'll be dodging bullets or have any babies trying to sell you crack on the street. "Hey baby! What are you doing on the street!?" The inside is pretty small, but you will be outside anyway. The huge yard is bordered by a chain-link fence so feel free to bring Henry and Roofus. In fact, they suggest you bring your dogs, especially on Dog Day Afternoon Sundays. The food is good and served on Tuesdays through Fridays, and you can have other food delivered on off days. Live bands play on Fridays, and you'll be blessed with the beats from DJ Sista Whitenoise every now and again. Oh, and the Juke Box is one of the bests in the city. Word up! See ya there! I'll bring Henry!

I won't get too wordy, but I love this place. From the live music to the friendly staff to, well, Petey the Crow - who can't love it? It's basically "Cheers", but with ink.

Been going to Lee Harvey's off and on since aught 5. Saw 1100 Springs play there, when are The Gourds going to get their act together and play at this joint? Seems like it's been douche-i-fied, but I hold out some hope.

Want a nice steak complete with fries and onion rings for only $15, live music with no cover charge and cold beer with a great patio? Come on.

I love this place. Enormous patio (more like a yard), inexpensive drinks, weekend live-music, and interesting people are all Lee Harvey's. And good food, to boot. This is one of the least "Dallas" places in Dallas. And if you're from here, you know that's kind of a good thing.

Lee Harvey's is an oasis in a rather run down, scary, "flee for your life outside the bar " part of Dallas. If the barbed wire around the joint and the "junkyard" dogs don't clue you in, then nothing will. If a shooting does happen to go down, place yourself within the middle of the huge crowd that gathers there, and you will be fine. This bar is really fun. It's doesn't even really feel like a bar. It feels like you're at a backyard party. The host at this backyard party has hired a relatively good band, lit the firepits, and invited a whole variety of different people who bring their dogs. If I said it had a yuppy feel, would you know that I'm really old? The drinks are reasonably priced, and are not the watered down drinks of other bars. You will never have to ask yourself or your friend, "Taste this. Does this even have any alcohol in it?" Two words of advice: bring a lawn chair if you want to sit...and pack some heat.

Really fun place, especially if the weather's nice. Very laid back, fairly decent to very good service. Unfortunately, I don't live close enough, really, to make this a regular hangout.

You're not a real scenester until you've peed in the grass parking lot of Lee Harvey's. (Yes, I'm including the ladies in this statement) This place is great! Fun for the whole family! (As long as you are single with a dog and REALLY like to drink) My favorite times at Lee Harvey's are during the fall, with the fire pits going, and a good band that I've never heard of just impressing the hell out of me one their tiny ass stage. Oh! With a Jim Beam on the rocks in my hand. It's serene. The drinks are cheap. The bands are good. The dogs come out to play. The cool kids go. The cool kids dance. It's nice in the month of May. The beer is cold. The yard is warm. The scene is just a blast. The thing I like best about this bar is the short bartender's ass.

Bring you dog! It's so allowed. Lee Harvey's food is yummy. The onion rings were a bit too greasy; however, with the sauce it comes with...you can certainly over look it. Bring your pooches if they behave. You can chill with your dog.

Went on a Sunday which was doggy day. Seemed like a fun, family place, dogs were barking, kids running all over the place. It looks like a run down house, definitel a dive. But the food was awesome! Had the brisket tacos and they serve wine from Times Ten Cellars which is a local spot, which I think is really cool. I ended up staying there all day and night. I also got the fried shrimp and fries and that was good as well. Wish they had better TVs because we were there trying to catch some of the basketball games. However if you just want to chill out and hang outside, it's a pretty cool place. It's a bit hard to find, near South Side Lofts on Lamar, really its in the back of the Baby Back Shack.

Last night Lee Harvey's dished me up the best hamburger I've ever had, bar none. Order it rare and it won't be. It will come out perfect.

I'm always trying to find cool places to take my fiance and Lee Harvey's won him over. We had such a great time sitting at the picnic tables, drinking and laughing, he already wants to go back in a week. He was very impressed with the BIG pour of Crown on the rocks. Probably the best deal for the money for a pour like that in Big D! We loved the music and the fire pits outside kept us warm, Lee Harvey's is the COOLEST.

We need more dog friendly places like this great outdoor restaurant. Great food, good cheap drinks and fire pits for the winter. You can even make your own smores. Life is good at Lee Harvey's. Oh and did I mention free live music on the weekends.

So now it's official, my friend Mike has taken me here for my birthday present and have always been satisfied. So because of that my vow is to come here every time I am in Dallas as the burgers are great and the people are fun. It has it's charm, which I think I like the most about it. The outdoors as a fire pit and picnic yard tables which remind you of how laid back Texas is suppose to be.

What a great spot! Cheap beers and an awesome rustic atmosphere, with live jazz, picnic benches and fire pits. Win. It's like going to a cook out where you're not the one that has to clean up afterwards. A must.

The hipsters have taken over. The secret it out and you can't put the cat back in the bag. Disclaimer: I am no regular. In fact, I am part of the problem: I read about Lee Harvey's and decided to drive all the way from north Dallas; I've never even ventured into that neighborhood (I needed my GPS); and I only know about Lee Harvey's because of Yelp. So in a sense, I feel sorry for the locals (if there are any in that neighborhood) and regulars. Their bar has become popular and "In" and they probably hate it, and for that, I apologize for discovering your bar. You can tell the bar, kitchen staff isn't used to the demand either: Drinks were slow and food was abysmally slower. (How long does it take to open a pop-top can and grill a burger?) Make no mistake, Lee Harvey's is cool because it has a very unique feel to it. In a city of over-commercialized corporate sameness, Lee Harvey's oozes nostalgia, with a look like it is stuck somewhere between the late 70s and mid 80s: Naugahyde couches and bar stools, repaired with tattered duct tape. Window-unit air conditioners sharing space with Billy D. Williams-style malt liquor beer signs. A Galaga/Mrs. PacMan stand-up arcade game that requires only one quarter. A juke box that isn't a digital wall unit. A tiny, ol' school tube TV recessed into a wall. Canned beer, and Schlitz and Pabst Blue Ribbon lend authenticity. However, some elements just felt out of place. First, they offered high-end, microbrew and obscure Euro imports, martinis, and wine by the glass. This attracts the hipster douche like watermelon attracts ants at a picnic. Don't get me wrong: I love Belgian Trappist-style Ale, but Lee Harvey's has no business selling a beer that comes in a fancy glass. Next, their wall-mounted menu had a peculiar inclusion: Arugula and Frisee salad with candied walnuts, pears and Maytag blue cheese. Dude, wait, what? If you order that and wash it down with a Chardonday, GTFO and take your poodle back to West Village. And finally, they had a DJ. And by DJ, I mean a guy with an Apple Macbook playing tunes off of his iTunes. I'm not bagging on his music choice or the dude himself (I had just put money in the jukebox right before he came on and he found in his iTunes my paid-for songs and played them through his system). But c'mon, a Macbook DJ at Lee Harvey's? There's so much to love about Lee Harvey's, but some of the recent additions, including the recent devotees, just don't fit.

So giving this place 5 stars still doesn't give it the justice it deserves. Hands down one of the best bars I have ever been to. They serve great food too. After whooping some derby ass, we closed this place down. Drinks were reasonably prices and the burger and onion rings were off the hook! I almost licked the spicy mayo off the plate.

I love this place. Food is great. And the atmosphere is wonderful. Most shows are free and bands are usually great fun to watch and listen to. I love that it's dog friendly and Sundays are especially great because you can take your pups off the leash! I love the BLT and the grilled cheese!

Great find! Chill outdoor dive bar tucked in a residential neighborhood. It's a great atmosphere. It would be good for a large group; they have long picnic benches and ample space. The live music definitely contributes to the laid-back feel. Their beer selection is fine, not many local beers, but that's not essential.

I have been a huge fan of Lee Harvey's for year and years now. The gem of a "dive" bar, tucked away off Gould Street, also sports my favorite burger in Dallas. The bar has a lot of character, with vintage beer ads, retro lighting and vintage (read uncomfortable) booths on the inside. And they still have an honest to goodness jukebox! And a pool table. And a gloriously graffitied bathroom that must been seen to be believed. The bar's layout mostly leans on its ample exterior, with an enormous, glorious patio with fire pits, lots of picnic style tables and a seriously cool Austin vibe. Plus they are animal friendly, and have designated days where they close off the backyard so everyone can bring their friendly dogs to safely play. But then there's the burgers. So, so perfect. The juicy, thick patty that is just the perfect kind of moist, a devious toasted bun, and those perfect cold fixings. My mouth is watering just thinking about how amazing it is. The fries are also stellar and the onion rings are also perfection, thick and crunchy and generous and not greasy at all. This designation is a Dallas must. When I have out of towners I always make sure to bring them here. It's a perfect place to fill up, have a long neck, kick off your flips and enjoy the summer breeze. Thank you, Lee Harvey's! You make Dallas a little cooler by just being here.

Yup, come here. The onion ring hype is real. I usually don't like onion rings because I find them too greasy depending on how restaurants batter them. But the rings here are light, crispy and fairly thin, which I decided to love and cherish as if they were my own after a couple of bites. I'm getting ahead of myself. I ordered the chicken tortilla soup to start out with, honestly not expecting much but it was actually pretty decent. I wouldn't say it's the best tortilla soup I've had but I was surprised how hearty and meaty the soup was. Everything in it tasted fresh. I also ordered the half pound burger with cheddar cheese, avocado, bacon and subsituted the fries for the onion rings. It was a perfect med. rare and so freakin juicy. That bacon though...Damn, it wasn't a tiny burnt strip, it was hefty bacon on that burger. The bartender/server was very friendly and at one point the cook came out and asked how I liked my meal. I dig it.

I love me some Lee Harvey's! The staff is always super nice, the atmosphere is very laid back and unpretentious, there is always a nice mix of people and the music is always super good. This place makes me feel like I am inside a Tarantino movie. Please be aware that there are only a couple of indoor seats as well as a pool table, this place is mostly outdoor, they have some outside fire pits for the winter time, but there is not much you can do in the summer, besides having a bucket of super cold beer with you. Their food is good, nothing fancy and the prices are super affordable. There are plenty of parking areas around it, mostly just dirt lots, but they do the trick. What I love the most, is how this is just a place to have a beer and a good time, the waiters are attentive and they are not the type that judges you for not ordering cool enough beer or not spending ridiculous amounts of money (*cough *cough, like some places in the Bishop area) Also, since this place is mostly outdoor, your dogs are also welcome.

It's been a minute since I've updated my LH review. In the past couple of months I've had the perfect days/nights here. Our own Kaia V won friend of the day a couple of weeks ago (check out their FB page and you could win too). It was on a Friday where I got the day off early from work so we were at Lee Harvey's around 3:30pm. Only a few people were there. The weather outside was PERFECT! We sat outside and had the perfect time with perfect friends and perfect drinks! Last week we went for $1 taco night. You're seriously a winner with $1 tacos. The fish with the aoli sauce, the beef with the onions are just delicious and they are only a friggin $1. A DOLLAR. I sat at the bar this time since it was chilly outside (I'm a wimp) and some good friends joined me. I got to meet Timm the bartender, which I have known him forever it seems, and think I've met him before when he did a short run at Elbow Room. We all had a good time chatting and drinking and eating and hearing Timm and Kaz tell stories of some of the regulars. We eventually went outside when the fire pits were going and continued to have the best time ever. Of the 10+ years I've been going to LH I can't think of a bad time. In fact many of my greatest memories of being out and about involve this place. I'm dreaming of their perfect patio right now.

I've been wanting to try Lee Harvey's for a while. I finally went in for a late lunch burger recently. Overall, I think this place is pretty damn cool. Of the dive bars I have been to, it is the "divey-est" .. I mean, it's a dump, a real dump. But, that's its personality . It is such a different vibe from the sanitized, craft cocktail, faux distressed but still highly polished wood bars you find in areas like Uptown. The actual bar area indoors is so small, it's a guaranteed case of claustrophobia/agoraphobia for somebody like me. The patio and yard area are the places to be...so, this is a warm weather venue in my book. I bet the place gets packed on Friday and Saturday nights in warm weather. I had a beer, a cheeseburger and onion rings. I'd heard much about the onion rings. Are they the best I've ever had (or even in town)? No...the best are the ones they serve at Sonny Bryan's; Sonny's blow these out of the water, but they're still very good. The cheeseburger, on the other hand, was exceptionally good, one of the better ones I've had in a while. Great flavor, good sized, and they know how to cook it to the ordered level of doneness. I'd go back for the burger alone. The lady behind the bar was great...so friendly...it's clear they treat everyone like a regular, even when you're not. The prices there are very reasonable, and their happy hour prices are surprisingly low.

  • Andy K.

Low expectations are the keys to happiness, and if yours aren't adjusted the moment you enter a beaten up shack for a beer, you probably won't leave happy. This is a great place.

    (5)
  • Jenu K.

Holy Onion Rings! That's right, the best rings you ever tasted is in Lee Harvey's. It tasted better than the onion rings our own grandma used to make.Delicious! Crispy on the outside and tender inside. One of my all time favorite, and so much better than the typical battered rings. Breaded onion rings are so hard to find at restaurants now since there are so few old fashioned drive-ins left anymore.(Best, in my opinion, with a juicy cheeseburger they have, it will the perfect made for each other pair). Wood patio tables galore and a lush lawn all around is the scene at this dive. But when it rains pack up and head back inside, where the smell of whiskey and cheap beer hangs in the air. It's a very cool place, with a nice patio, dog friendly and great atmosphere with great food and tacos.(tacos is food too, but I want to point their tacos which is delish and cheap). In one word...CHEAP. In two words...AWESOME PATIO. In winter just think it is summer and go to the Lee Harvey's patio.

I have to admit that I have waited to write my review until I tasted the food while completely sober. I don't drink to excess very often but this place can bring that part of you out and it's completely okay. I mean everyone else here is doing it, right? Right! Lee Harvey's is nestled in a neighborhood south of downtown Dallas at the corner of Gould and Beaumont (always make me think of Hugh Beaumont from Leave it to Beaver). A lot of the neighbors are regulars here and that is one of the many things that make Lee Harvey's such a freaking cool place! There are two bar areas, both manned and womanned (I know it's not a word, but hey, sue me) by great bartenders who are very nice, but won't hesitate to weed out the BS-love that! The bar area on the left, as you enter the patio, is small adm has limited seating and a small pool table. The bar area on the right is much larger and has larger seating area with long bar tables. The large patio has picnic tables lined up throughout and for nights that are nipply (again, sue me) there are fire pits to provide warmth and a good snuggle spot with a cuddle buddy. If you didn't bring one you probably won't have any problem finding one, I mean we are drinking here! The patio is manned and womanned by Lee Harvey's staff that is very adept at finding you to bring your food and drink orders after taking them. Sundays are dog days and I don't mean that they are sultry, I mean you can bring your pooch with you. I choose not to bring Rosco since he is a bit unruly. Most of the dogs I've "visited" with at Lee Harvey's are super friendly and well mannered in public, which is so fun. Live music is what brought me to Lee Harvey's and while I've seen some really good bands, I have to admit, I've seen some really bad bands here too. No worries though, it's a fun time either way. They book Naked Lunch (Steely Dan tribute band) quite a bit and they are fantastic! Check out their calendar online to check out the band line up and food specials. Speaking of food. I have woofed down my fair share of their fare after a few beers and it was so freaking good. But more recently I had their burger and fries and fish tacos while totally sober and I have to say they take bar food beyond bar food expectations. The burger may even make my top ten burgers in Dallas, although I typically like to check a place for consistency before entering them on my list. The fries are pretty basic, but basically pretty good and the fish tacos are wonderful and the fish tacos are $1 after 3 PM on Mondays and Happy Hour starts at the same time. Hey! Today is Monday! I'll see you there this afternoon or sometime in the future!

Who would think to name a bar after such a infamous name?? Well Lee Harvey's lives up to the legendary name. It's a good time wrapped with a awesome outdoor patio. Lee Harvey's created the outdoor..picnic tables..live music..beer drinking..burger eating.. french fry dipping.. checking hot roller derby girls.. watching random hipsters.. appreciating the custom choppers..dallas skyline with your friends all night kind of fun. I've come here on a sunny Friday afternoon with my dog and a few friends. I've come here on Friday nights with a rockabilly band playing. I've come here on Saturday for Mods & Motorcycles. I've come here for a Paws in the City event. I've come here because I was their Facebook Friend of the day ( 2 times)! Hell I've come here to just because the beer was cold and my car was on autopilot! Lee Harvey's is where Roadhouse meets Dallas. Guaranteed to have a good time. Bring a group of friends, grab a bucket of beer and enjoy the weather. And don't discount the burgers.. they are legit!

Fun dive-like atmosphere, often with live music on the weekend. Tuesday night popular due to 1/2 on their award-winning burgers. Portobello Burgers are tasty too!

The owner is the man. There is a reason this bar thrives with such a great owner. Free jukebox, picnic tables, steak, and plenty of weird people. Do not change a thing about the bar. We bonded over T Rex. Life is strange.

  • Heather L.

Such a fun place to hang out and watch some live tunes! We went to see a Hall and Oates cover band on a Friday nite. Great Show. The back bar is a little weird, as you have to stand in line and will be reprimanded if you dont. The inside bar is a little more accommodating, but wicked tiny. Either way, great drinks. I would not encourage you to wear high heels here, its all like rocks or something outside, hard to walk on... and it is mostly outside, so if its hot, be prepared to sweat. Overall, fun venue for a laid back and relaxing time. Don't forget to order a burger with onion rings - MUST TRY!

    (4)
  • Una B.

Onion rings and that special sauce! so, so tasty. Probably a standard for dive bars, in an awesome way. Super laid back place to meet with friends and munch on some legit food! No nonsense, no frills, all good times.

  • Lena H.

What a dive! Scary, barely lit bathroom and a really dark bar. But...completely worth visiting, and revisiting. The patio is humongous with tons of seating. We had the onion rings which were good. I prefer my onion rings breaded, but their beer battered rings were some of the better ones I've had. We also had the fish tacos. Probably the best fish taco I've had in Dallas. They were small, fish was grilled well, and they didn't over-do the toppings. There was cabbage, lime, and a really great salsa verde on the side. The local beer selection was good, but they only serve cans/bottles. Overall, a great spot. We'll definitely be back for another afternoon on the patio. Maybe next time we'll bring the kiddos & dogs.

Real people, no filters! Of you're looking for a true Dallas institution where everyone has a good attitude (well almost evwrone:-)) I started coming to Harveys about 9 years ago and besides the good drinks and food. I got to meet some of the most interesting individuals which eventually became dear friends. Good old fun at its best!

Husband: It's called "Lee Harvey's?? How do you feel about that? I mean, would we name a bar 'Bin Laden's'? How about 'Hitler's Place'??" Lol. I feel totally fine about it being named Lee Harvey's. My only experience with the place was on a day with gorgeous weather, and the open patio was absolutely perfect and has a hipster vibe. Someone said it's a dive bar, it's not. It's hipster. And yes, the onion rings are awesome.

  • Tracy L.

Lee Harvey's is such a great Dallas dive! Don't be intimidated by the neighborhood, it's part of the look. This place is as casual as you could want and dog friendly. During the day I would say this is a family friendly establishment too. On a cool evening fire pits are a fun touch to keep warm while listening to a live band. Bottom line- food, beer, and cocktails are appropriately priced.

We attended the Yelp Gold Elite party here. Before it started though, Hubby and I enjoyed some drinks and conversation with other patrons. The people working here were very nice. I was greeted with a howdy, welcome, and hello from different people as I walked in to the main bar area. It was dark and cool, but not unwelcoming. The inside has character. Old and beaten up looking is very much in, in my book. The patio bar and picnic table seating is new and different, in my experience. I found this to make for a fun experience. That is where this review ends and the Yelp Gold Elite picks up.

One of the best bars in Dallas, this iconicCedars watering hole has a great patio with fire-pits for when it gets cold at night, and regular live music at the weekends, always free. Kid-friendly and dog-friendly, they even have a cat, Bacon Lee Harvey!

Wow! Stumbled upon this hidden gem while we were downtown meeting my wife's brother from Indiana. Looking for a place to grab a burger and beer?? This is the perfect dive bar setting!! Tuesdays happen to be half priced burger night, so we really lucked out!! Great burgers and atmosphere!! Check it out!

I'm not even going to give them a star.. we were past over service in favor of two other parties that had arrived after us. Barkeep told us she will be with us, served beverages and food to others and still have nothing.

  • Heather R.

IMHO, the best fish tacos in town, hands down, bar-none! A must try place. Bring your dog to play with the other pooches in the ginormous yard. Oh, be sure to catch the Steely Dan cover band here, EPIC!! Great burgers, their onion rings are to die for and this place knows how to pour. If you come in the middle of summer, grab your beer from inside as they'll be colder. You're welcome. :) You'll find plenty of great people watching here, from bikers to hipsters and everything in between. Every single time I come here I have an excellent time. It's definitely run-down but that's part of the appeal, really. Anyway, I totally recommend this dive bar, just go, have a beer and some fish tacos, you'll be glad you did.

  • Lauren P.

I will admit it- we chose this place solely on the scandalous name and because we are the most mature people on the planet. Obviously. #TooSoon, Dallas. #TooSoon. The bar tenders are super friendly, they've got a good drink selection, the outdoor seating space is great and has a somewhat nice view of downtown- also the music they play here is awesome! I would say that this establishment is the baby of a hipster hideout and a dive bar. You can't be underdressed, y'all. Really fun place to come hang out- can't beat the chill atmosphere and easygoing attitudes. Perfect place to take an old friend out to catch up! Try not to say things like: "Man, I love Lee Harvey's!" "Lee Harvey's is the best thing to ever have happened to Dallas!" without clarifying that you're referring to the bar. . . #awkward

    (5)
  • Mike K.

This is a pretty chill place. It has big outdoor seating and a pretty badass inside bar which kind of had an old school feel too it. Friendly bar tenders and I saw some dogs outside, so it must be dog friendly.

  • Jenna M.

I love Lee Harvey's. It's one of my go-to spots for live, outdoor music (usually starts at 9 pm). Happy hour is also a great deal, though the place always seems lonely at that time. The crowd is always diverse, so no matter who you are, you'll feel welcome at Lee Harvey's. The bartenders are friendly and helpful, though the waitress who's been there for a while has a major attitude. Guess it kind of adds to the no frills vibe. Food is average bare fare--don't expect to be wow'ed by it, but you'll leave satisfied. Depending on the beat music, you might wind up dancing in the gravel.

    (4)
  • Ami S.

Always a great no frills party. Bathrooms are sort of "rape-y" but the music makes up for it. I like the crowd and make friends every time I go. I brought my dog and she must have been petted a hundred times. She loved it. Well, she wasn't a huge fan of the music but we were able to snag a spot in the back a "safe enough" distance away. Will go back when it warms up. There's not much inside there and the fireplaces just don't cut it.

    (4)
  • Delaney S.

Their Portabello Panini is AMAZING. I was truly surprised. Try it. It will fill you up without the guilt. (Whatever the basil mayo spread they put on the side is probably fattening though) ;) Good atmosphere especially on nice days/nights because if the huge outside sitting area. Decent bands come through, too!

Headed over there to meet some friends and we had our pups with us! great place to let the fur babies run free - wonderful onion rings and just a calm cool atmosphere! Dinner, my pup, had a great time playing with the other kids! Ill definitely go back!

The organic music playing truly brings everyone together. Bikers. Rockers. Drinkers. We all want to dance to the tunes with a sweet buzz. Harvey's has it all. Love it. Just avoid the angry blonde bartender.

Is a challenge to find but is a must visit when entertaining out of town guests. Every time I have been here there is something new. The drinks are always great and the food is awesome and inexpensive. Everyone is welcomed here. They enjoy a very mixed crowd. From bikers to 3 piece suits and everythig in between. What are you waiting for?

A little bit of Luckenbach in the middle of Dallas. Doggie friendly, heavy pours, good bar food and live music. What's not to love? Don't wear your Sunday finest and complain about the picnic tables or soot from the bonfires, but do come for a fun, casual environment to kick back and enjoy life with the adult beverage of your choice.

Had not been here in 10 yrs. Went Saturday at 3 to meet a few friends for a burger and a beer. The picnic area was smaller and more closely set tables then I remember. I found the set up oppressive. Most buildings are still razor wired up in this neighborhood. I walked from the cedars station which is about a 3 min trek and the streets were deserted except for a car that stopped and I think was trying to proposition me. (?) with my loafers , baggy button down shirt and jeans pretty sure I didn't look like a streetwalker.... but anyway.. got to Lee Harverys with little effort. The people seated about and the ones that entered while I was there (left around 6) were older... demographic 40's plus with more a 50-60 looking crowd. all the people were fairly unattractive. Lots of fancy cars and motorcycles.. maybe some weekender clubs in attendance? I didn't find the food or beer inexpensive. a sandwich for my friend, a sprite and one beer ran $30.. and I tipped a $10... just becuz I had no singles on me and $5 seemed a little weak... yes I know I over tip.. but also prompted by the bartenders sexy hypnotic eyes. xtra point for hot bartender. There was no real service. Had to order at the bar. but kudos to the burger. It was amazing meat. I ordered a cheese burger but got a no cheese burger. ... they offered to slap some cheese on it but I told them to forgettaboughtit. and took it as it was brought out. I think that was the right choice. a cheesy slice would have mucked up the clarity of the fine meat. and although I love the grapevine, ships and other dive bars... Doubtful I'll ever be back to lee harveys. .. something I find truly icky about the vibe there. not sure exactly what ,, maybe it is the juxtapose of all this 'living , serving local' 'craft beer' 'guacamole is natures mayo' jive against the ugly sloppy looking place with a chain gate and razor wire about it. If I'm around dirty, I think I'd rather a Schlitz and a whiskey. this place doesn't truly embrace DIVE. It maybe a dive for yupsters. and it doesn't feel cared about.. or something. just something ephemerally amiss here. something uncommitted. don't like it. but you may.

First time here and I loved the environment. It's like going over to someone's house and hanging out. People brought their dogs out and they were running around but they were all pretty good. When i stepped out of the car i could smell firewood like we were camping. My boyfriend said they have live music on some nights, so I want to check that out. Pretty cool bar to go to.

Hi. So, I have come here a few times on Sundays with my dog. My dog was bitten in the mouth and the owners were not asked to leave. I saw a dog bite a kid, and the owners were not asked to leave. I threw water on a 150 pound dog that was lunging at my 16 pound pug and I was told by Jimmy, supposedly the owner, that I was banned. Oh...kicker...my dog is allowed in anytime. Why? So she can go home bleeding again? He didn't even want to hear what I had to say. Ok, if it weren't for the dog Sunday I'd never go to this piece of shit, but to say I'm a trouble maker for throwing water on a dog to protect mine is crap. I'd kill to protect my dog, and any animal lover should appreciate that. Then I found out he told his staff to get paperwork from me on my dog because she's a service dog. FYI, I am a vegetarian, animal rights activists and I volunteer at my local shelter. I'm sure I'm so threatening.

Came here on 5/25. You can eat/drink inside or outside. The have bars at both. Their cheeseburgers were amazing and buckets of 8 Bud lights were priced right. They had a live band playing country and the mood is awesome for a light breezy type of night. I would definitely come back here.

Holy shit this places blows ass. Used to come here ten years ago every weekend. Came back for the first time and it has gone down hill. Drinks are now expensive as fuck. I have to take out a loan to get drunk. Service was friendly, like a neighborhood bar. No matter who you are, you would get served. Now, unless your some asshole aging rockabilly, they will ignore you at the bar. I had to yell several times to get service. I would rather go drink at fox and hound than ever come back to this shit dump. The fox and hound can suck my dick too. I don't know if the SMU/uptown crowd ruined it. If you wear a polo, you're immediately an asshole. Who knows what happened, but I won't be coming back.

Stopped by this place for a beer during a visit to Dallas and really liked it, that is until I got home and saw they tacked on an extra $10 to my charge. I left a cash tip (we only had two beers and bought 2 t-shirts) so I'd like to think it was an honest mistake. But just in case, check your receipt against your bill and if it happens to you - report it.
