You could drive by this place a million times and never see it. If you want to eat here, you actually have to go looking for it. And, even when you find it, you might be wondering if it's even open for business, but rest assured it is open. Once you've been here, you'll know you found something special: superb Colombian food! You can get by with English in this place, but they really appreciate Spanish speakers. If this is your first time here, go for the MINI-Bandeja Paisa (which roughly translates to "Country Platter"). The "mini" size is freakishly HUGE: it includes beans, rice, avocado, fried egg, a piece of steak, a big hunk of the chicharrones, a piece of lean homemade sausage, plantains, and a corn meal patty. If you get the "regular" size, you can feed two people because the portions are increased. This plate will allow you to sample many of the offerings available. If you're looking for a drink, I'd suggest a Mamey con Leche. These things are addictive! Mamey is a fruit that tastes sort of like a cross between apricots and fresh berries. Casa Vieja adds powdered Mamey to milk and blends it to the consistency of a milkshake, and they are outrageously delicious. Other things to try are the costillas (ribs), the fried fish and of course the morcilla (blood sausage). The interior is kind of garish, yet charming. It kind of reminds me of my Grandma's house. There is also a full bar. On weekends there is usually live music and dancing. On those nights, things can get a bit noisy. I've never seen a big crowd here, but it is always lively.

I was introduced to this place by a Colombian friend of mine. Not being at all familiar with what Colombian cuisine should taste like I took his word on it that this is what it tastes like. The one thing I always recommend when I dine here is their empanadas. The outer shell is just crisp enough to offer a slight crunchy texture but still remains pliable enough to hold the succulent contents in until the very last bite. I typically order the 'Bandeja Paisa' which is something of a large sampler platter that includes white rice, red kidney beans, fried pork skin, spanish sausage, steak, egg, sweet plantain, avacado and a grilled corn cake. whew. If you don't feel up to devouring such a large portion they offer a smaller helping for the less daring. One thing I would like to note is that this plate offers a lot of dark savory flavors with a little bit of saltiness so I would suggest rationing the provided sweet plantain to enhance and add variety to the rest of the dish. Overall I enjoy my visits to Casa Vieja and always leave satisfied. Just add some good company and a couple bottles of corona and you are in for a treat.

Best authentic empanadas ever! And their AJIACO is amazing - luckly for me that it is only once a month and all you can eat 'cuz I would be here every weekend. It is already tough trying to stay away from the empanadas!! The decor is filled with miniature Colombian balconies made by the brother of Yolanda (she is the owner and a real fun person). Service is okay if you are lucky to not come in when the place is packed - which is the majority of the time. It is the a really good place to find authentic Colombian dishes. Keep in mind that Colombian cuisine is not at all like Mexican cuisine - no chiles are harmed and the spice is minimal! It is just good down to earth cooking!

I really enjoyed my evening here. The service is very amiable. The music is entertaining...tango and boleros Friday nights and salsa on Saturday nights. I ordered the Tamal Tolimense. Its named after an Andean region in Colombia. I did not know the tamales from Colombia were also wrapped in banana leaf like the ones from El Salvador. The food is really well prepared and super tasty. I loved their empanadas as appetizers. Their batidos tipicos ( smoothies made with real fruit) are awesome. You can taste the fruit and its very refreshing not overly sweet like smoothies you will get at typical shops. They even have a veggie plate that completely satisfied my dining companion. We did have to laugh though when the waitress came back to make sure that was actually what he ordered. My only complaint is that it is very dark at night so I could not really see my food. Thankfully it was all very good but I definitely want to go back for lunch so I can distinguish the food by sight better.

This is an excellent Colombian restaurant. It is located in a run down strip mall, but don't let that deter you from getting a great meal. Start with the empanadas. Order more than one, because after the first one you will wish you'd ordered a second one. So just do it! This was the first place I tried blood sausage. Can't say it was my favorite or that I'll be repeating that order. It was OK. My favorite item on the menu is Tamal Antoqueno. It is a tamal (tamale) with 3 kinds of meat wrapped in a banana leaf with a spicy sauce. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it! There are all sorts of fruit drinks on the menu. They are really sweet, so I don't usually order them. Sugar Bear has tried a few, and my samples of his have been yummy. The juice to make these drinks is very fresh, and you should try some of the more 'different' selections made from fruits you might not have heard of yet. It will expand your palate! Check out Casa Vieja! It is worth the drive to Carrollton!

I've been putting off writing this review and it's only because I'm so one the fence about this place. My best friend recently moved here and he is a huge Colombian food fan. We've been here twice now and me...not so much. Maybe it's that I don't eat meat and the majority of the menu has savory meat dishes. Also, I find the menu to be a little pricey. First off, this little hole in the wall is so very hidden! Amongst the random other restaurants and businesses in the strip mall on the northeast corner of Josey and Beltine, you have to search for it. It's next to Dollar Deals, the Bahn Mi place, and the Cici's. As Flor said, they really appreciate the Spanish speaking population here. The place is always full of people from a variety of backgrounds. I highly recommend starting with the jugo de mamey with milk. Mamey tastes like a strange strawberry, banana, cherry mix to me and it a lot like a smoothie. I do give them extreme props for having a vegetarian plate. It comes with red beans, rice, plantain, fried yucca, a small arepa (a thick corn cake with the texture of a corn tortilla), and an optional fried egg. I always order an extra arepa with cheese. There is a huge amount of food that comes with. D and my best friend are big fans of the beef and potato empandas. I had a bite off the corner to taste the crispy dough and it was very good. D and bestie always enjoy the stewed meat and the fried pork skins. I guess I just can't justify paying this much for almost Mexican food. It's very authentic but just not my favorite. Service is good. I hear they have live music and lots of fun stuff like that. Definitely an interesting place to eat "outside the box".
(3)Mark S.
I will start out with a bit of a shocker, the empandas here are not the best in town...that said, they're still pretty darn good. This is a great place for a carnivore, although you could probably say that about any Colombian restaurant (are there may around???). Food is good and plentiful. You can have either meat, meat, or if you'd really like some meat. You do feel as though you have been transported to another place once you step inside--and this is good because the strip mall/outside if scary (okay, just a bit decrepit). But the best hole-in-the-wall places are supposed to be like that. This place is LOUD, so make sure you bring your outside voice inside here. On weekend nights, it turns into a defacto disco. Even abuela will get up and show off her moves. It is entertaining anyway.

I found this place by chance when one afternoon I found myself lost in Carrollton. I made a mental note of the restaurant then returned the following Sunday to give it a try. As we first walked in I felt quite relaxed in a very quaint environment, the server was very polite and patient as we took our time looking over the menu. We (2 of us) ordered the "Bandeja Paisa" which is explained by the reviews below. I must say I was quite impressed with it all. We also had enpanadas for appetizer I had never tried enpanadas so I cannot compare them to any other ones, however I did enjoy them. One thing that I felt was less than stellar was that the waiter did explain the menu or suggest items nor did he suggest any cocktails. Being this was my first time eating Columbian food suggestions would have been welcomed. I will return and will definitely bring friends along to try this gem of a place.

This restaurant/club is a favorite of mine and my friends' and family. The food has been delicious on every visit (10+ times)! This isn't good for a quick in and out meal -- the food is heavy and takes some time to prepare. But it's all worth it and very fresh, hearty, and healthy anyway. It's a big family operation and the staff is all very helpful, generous, and more than friendly. The food is NOT mexican food, which is what some people expect from a latin restaurant like this. It's really unique food the likes of which I'd never had before I came here... so good. It's not weird food or anything but don't bring picky people here because they'll more than likely get freaked out over nothing Weekend evenings are great here! The house is full, the drinks are strong, and they often have live latin american music and dancing going on.
(5)Eli Y.
Good authentic food. Little overpriced. Great loud atmosphere.
(4)Annamarie C.
If you're thinking Carrollton is a little too far for you, think again. Casa Vieja is entirely worth it. Order away!!! Even if you don't understand what the hell is on the menu. There is nothing less than delicious in their selection.
(5)Tom O.
Every once in a while I venture to this Colombian restaurant in a shopping strip that offers an eclectic mix of cuisine. For lunch, you can either order off the menu or get the special of the day, which starts with a bowl of soup followed by a meat dish. Each time the food has been delicious and the service was very good. They have an extensive selection of fruit juices that are made fresh, many of them with fruits that you may not have heard of, I'm still working my way through the list.
(4)Vik S.
I got the bandeja vieja, which is a lot of food for not very much money. Steak, pork belly, rice, beans, plantains, and an egg. Honestly it's enough food for two people but the man that I am I finished it off.
(4)Yaz E.
Great Colombian food ... Empanadas are Te best I have ever tried, and the jugos naturals are so yummy the prices are ok not to expensive for The food you get.
(4)Brad B.
I've never come here and not had food for days to take home. I get some meal that has blood sausage, chichirones, ground beef, and egg, rice, an avocado, and plantains. That thing is amazing! The service is also outstanding! If you can speak a little Spanish it goes a long way but they sure no how to make you feel welcome. That's probably one of the best parts. The older lady (owner?) by the door seating people is so friendly. She always smiles and greets you with a warm look and an equally sad look when you depart. It makes me wish I had a Colombian grandmother- she'd cook as wonderfully as they door here and make me feel sad I couldn't eat all her food. Excellent food, excellent service.

Boyfriend and I went for the first time one Saturday. I loved the atmosphere and the food was delicious. There was live music and thaft just made the first time experience even better. I will say that it was really hard for us to get seated even though it was just the two of us. We waited a long time before we just got put at the bar. As busy as it gets the restaurant should really relocate into a bigger building. We definitely will revisit with plenty money. Our check was very expensive.

I've been going to this place since I was a little girl! My family has been ride or die loyal with this restaurant, there was never a bad memory had at this place. The environment is as comforting as the food---which NEVER disappoints. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for an authentic experience for their palettes! My personal favorite's are the Yucca Frita, Patacones and the Chuzo Mixto (& If you're drinking, definitely get a Mojito!!). I will warn you though: Wear loose clothing, as a "food baby" is guaranteed to be had. [Worth it.] Tip: Go on a week day, it's grown to be a really popular spot on weekends because of the salsa music and dancing that takes place late at night (oh no I've said too much!).

God bless Columbia! I loved this place. Decided to come here on lunch with some coworkers. I am so glad we did. This location is a sit down restaurant that is also a bar at night. I have been told that on certain nights you can come here and there is live music. When you walk in you are seated and the waiter we had was very nice. The restaurant was nice and I felt like I was on vacation. I ordered the Picada Casa Vieja. It came with yucca, potatoes, chicharron, steak, chicken, two different sausages, plantain, avocado, tomatoes and shrimp. That is a lot. The portions were definitely enough to get you full and then have something to take home. Everything was cooked very well. The only thing is that the shrimp seemed to be a bit salty though. Not enough to ruin my meal though. Then have two salsas that they serve with the food. I don't think they call it salsa though. Whatever it is called it went very well with the food. The waiter gave me some to take home and I haven't wanted to use it because I want to put it with something I make for myself. It is that good. They make smoothies as well. I got one to go and it was so good. I regretted it because I was so full but I loved it. There are so many other items on the menu I want to try. All of my coworkers food looked just as good as mine. I recommend coming to this place. I want to come at night when there is live music. I think it would be a good night out.

It's been a couple years since we've eaten here and the quality has dropped. The Maduros (means ripe) were not ripe and were actually hard - awful. Over all everyone agreed the quality had dropped and nothing captured their attention other than the Tostones apptzr which was very good.
(3)Jay K.
I love this spot!!! The drinks alone are worth the drive to this hidden gem! The Guanabana is simply amazing and a must try! Staff was very friendly and informative about their menu. The presentation of the food could be a bit better but it was still good!
(4)Vi T.
Everything on the menu will make your mouth water, but for my first visit I went with the mini bandeja paisa, and my husband got the picada vieja. Everything from the sides to the main dish was delicious! Very authentic and a good way to try out a variety of items. I loved the pork belly, skirt steak, rice and beans, and chorizo. The atmosphere is quaint and cozy, and there was loud live music on a Friday. Not for the uptown snooty crowd - this place is low key, casual, and somewhat hole in the wall. If you want authentic Latin style grilled meat and Colombian cuisine, this is the place. I will go again for sure.

Service is lacking, I had to hunt down our waitress just to get a refill on my tea. Among the plates we ordered were Pollo a la Parilla, (amongst) other dishes, we also ordered 6 empanadas. The chicken breast had an odd smell, I took a bite from it and it was obvious that it was past its expiration date, the empanadas were also past the expiration date or perhaps the food was not stored properly, thus causing it to spoil..... When we brought it, up to the attention of our waitress, she informed us that we'd have to tell a different lady, because she had someone else complain earlier for the same reason and nearly had her head chewed off for relaying the message, so she asked that we complain directly to this other person. When the other lady approached, I shared with her my concern and she argued with me..... Actually argued with me; blamed my taste buds...Unbelievable. The smell of spoiled chicken was overwhelming. The couple sitting at the next table shared with us that the same thing happened to them. This lady took offense to us bringing it to her attention, she took it personal. Any other reputable restaurant would have graciously offered to correct the situation; not stand there and argue with the customer. Our total was nearly $100.00!!! NOT WORTH THE PRICE. Service is horrible.

I really love that this place has a vegetarian option, and gluten free as well. The Plato Vegetariano (Vegetarian Plate) was filling and great! Vegans: Please note, it comes with a fried egg, so be sure to ask for it without. This came with salad and a vinaigrette pico, fried yucca (similar to potato, just a slightly different texture), arepa, which is a gluten-free corn flatbread, a sweet fried plantain, red beans and rice. $12 for a filling gluten-free vegan meal... I'm satisfied.

A genuine taste of Columbia right here in the Dallas area. The owners are from Columbia and have so generously brought their skill and love of Colombian food. Every thing on my dish was so unbelievably tasty and all blended so well together. From the black beans to the chorizo sausage and the egg and the bistek and the pork rind. These are all foods that I do not eat on a normal basis and would normally not care to eat but I'm thankful that my friend brought me here because I absolutely appreciated all these flavors. Their salsa was perfectly textured with the right amount of kick. I don't care much for margaritas but there tamarind Margarita was by far the best and the biggest that I have had. The empanadas are perfectly sized with generous amounts of protein. Come hungry and leave a happy soul!

Colombian restaurant in Dallas. 5 stars. I'm Colombian and I can say this place tasted authentic. I'm very used to ordering from the side menu since I'm a vegetarian. I was pleasantly surprised to see a vegetarian option on the menu. A full plate of salad with a brilliant dressing, red beans, delicious rice, yucas, plantain, and an arepa. All that for 11.99! Delicious. It's nice to see a Colombian place conscious of the new trends. I was a little sad they didn't have bakery items. But they never advertised as such so I can't blame them. The environment is also authentic. Colombian flags, decorations and posters of Colombian scenery. Only con is that the rest of the items on the menu are a bit pricey. 5 dollars for juice. Kind of steep.

I don't know about this. I might have ordered the wrong thing? I will give them another try. I got my order to go. One shish kabob of steak and chicken with rice and beans. It came with sweet plantains also. You can never go wrong with sweet plantains. That is my all time favorite!!! I can never get enough! The steak in the steak and chicken kabob was chewy and hard. It was too tough to eat so I threw away all the steak and ate the chicken. This dish was really salty. Is that how columbian food is suppose to taste like? salty? I'm not much of a expert in this area of cuisine. Prices are expensive. My one shish kabob plate came out to be $14 for to go. That is a bit much for the quality that I got.
(2)Dominic C.
Definitely try the juices and smoothies here. Lots of exotic fruits. We got two different platters. Both were loaded with meats. The rice and beans were flavorful. I like the seasoning they used on the meats. Will RTE soon.

Finally I tried a Colombian place in Dallas... But it doesn't rival my favorite place in Austin. BF and I started off with empanadas which is my favorite thing in the world. I was extremely disappointed when I saw them. They were TINY with a huge $3 price tag. I understand, maybe because they're using brisket? I've had better, bigger, and cheaper empanadas. They were good though just not worth the price. If you want to order a dozen or so you won't get a discount. At least the bandeja paisa was good. My guava juice and BF's manjo juices were good and the portion was generous. Service was decent as well. Personally I wouldn't come back because the expensive empanadas just killed it.
(3)Lily F.
Came here last night and the food was great. We got the empanadas as app and it was prob the best empanadas I've ever had. They give you two different kinds of salsas that are really simple but delicious. The red one is spicier of the two but they both go great on everything. It's not like your typical tomato-based salsa, but more like a vinaigrette with green onion and other little bits of yumminess. We ordered the Picada Casa Vieja and the blood sausage and ground beef with rice. The portions are huge and everything was cooked perfectly. The ribs and the pork skin was amazing! The only thing I would say about this place is that afterwards you go home super bloated and dry mouthed because of all the salt. But it's so damn good. I was looking at all my leftovers in the box and was just thinking that all of that awesomey fried goodness won't taste nearly as good the next day. What a shame. In this epic battle of woman versus food, food won!
(4)Ariana V.
My husband took me from The Woodlands, TX to celebrate my birthday at this place and I want to say that it is the best Colombian restaurant i have found in Dallas. Great food! ;)
(5)Tex F.
I love Casa Vieja's lunch specials of authentic Colombian food. Lunch will have a soup, salad of some sort and a protein, usually beef.
(4)Amanda N.
Hadn't Columbian food in a while. Glad this place didn't ruin my fond memories of it. It actually reiterated why I love it so much :)
(5)Catherine L.
Seems pretty authentic. In fact this little place was recommended by a Columbian friend! When we arrived, had a little issue getting seated. Turned out that the whole place was reserved at 8 (it was 7). We ensured them we would be out by 8. (Tip 1: you might want to call ahead). Food was great. Some of it was similar to other Latin American cuisine but others were very unique! My mom got the tamale. Now most tamales I've seen are a little masa, some type of meat. This was nothing like that! We're talking like a brick of masa with a bunch of stuff rolled in there. I think we had some belly meat, meat on bones, and some veggies. It was quite tasty too! The rest of the meal was pretty good but nothing special. The thing that stuck out the most to me was their rice. I don't know what they add but it could've been a meal within itself. It was sticky and tasty. Delicious. I would definitely go back. People are nice and food was pretty good!
(4)George D.
The food here truly is delicious. Very fresh and authentic. The empanadas as appetizers are perfect, filled with beef and potatoes and peas. I had the very traditional Sobrebarriga a La Plancha. My mom had the fried pork ribs and as critical as she is she loved them. Partner had the Fritanga, that was fantastic too. The waiter did his best to give us good service on a very busy night.
(4)Rachel A.
At first glance this place looks like a typical mom and pop restaurant with sub par menu items. But don't let the appearance fool though. Our dinner party starred with jugos and empanadas. Jugo de lulu, mango y guanabana. Wow! Refreshing and delish. The empanadas were delicious morsels Beth much worth the 2.99 for each. Next came the platters called bandejas and picadas. These plates are awesome to order if you are in a group. Even the individual bandeja is enough for two. Wet went on a Saturday night and Saturday night the have live music. The group is a trio that sings cumbia, salsa, merengue and other latin beats. They add their own flare to it and voila, you have a cool little group that brings non-stop solid entertainment. I will continue to come. You can bring the kids and grandma and grandpa. Entire families stay and dance. It's a great atmosphere. I had a wonderful time.
(5)Rinny K.
This place is a cute place for Columbian food. The empanadas are amazing and full of meat. I think they use corn flory for the empanadas which gives it a different flavor. I love the variety platter. The sausage is full of flavor. The egg over rice was tasty. They also accommodated my taste for spicy? Although was told Columbians do not eat spicy food. Service was great. They also serve alcohol. I would definitely come here again.
(4)Nadia R.
Everything here was delicious. They have the best empanadas. We ordered the casa vieja picada. It was filled with yummy steak, chicken, shrimp, sausages, chicharon, plantains, potatoes, avocados, tostones, yucca, arepa and tomatoes. Way more food than we could eat!! The service was great. Prices were well worth it.
(5)Tina L.
So I've never had Columbian food before but I've had very similar food. When we arrived, there were many non-English speaking customers which we all know is a good sign of legit food. The walls were adorned with miniature figurines throughout the restaurant and a map of Columbia on the back wall. We started off with the empanadas for our appetizer. This was my favorite part of the meal. They were delicious. The crust was crispy and was filled with a generous portion of brisket mixed with potatoes. I wanted to get more but I wanted to save room for our entrees. We ordered the Bandeja Paisa and the Picada. The Bandeja Paisa came with a variety of food - steak, chorizo, chicharron, a fried egg, corn patty, plantains, beans, white rice, and a slice of avocado. The meats of the dish were rather disappointing. The steak was overcooked and the chicharron was too chewy. However, the chorizo was really good. As I tasted everything, I began to notice how salty the dish. I went through several glasses of water. You would think the rice would help break up the saltiness, but that too, was very salty. The only two things on my plate that helped balance the flavors was the plaintain (sweet and delicious but you only get one piece) and the corn patty (I didn't care too much for, very dry and flavorless). The Picada was a fairly large fried dish with chicharron, chorizo, blood sausage, pork ribs, plantains, potatoes, corn patty, couple slices of tomatoes, and a slice of avocado all mixed together. The pork ribs were really good. $50 later, we both felt pretty bloated with the amount of sodium we just consumed. It was fun to try something new out, but I don't think we'll be coming back here.
(3)Norma M.
Food is good! Pricey but good! Especially the empanadas they are the best ! Service is awful Especially at night! The totally fit get about you especially with drinks! We waited up to an hour to get our food! They will add 18% tip on bill automatically so they do not care if you are not happy with service! I give 4 stars for empanadas, price 2 stars and service 1
(3)Michael L.
Crap - I've been missing out on some of the best empanadas I've ever had for too long. I've always ended up next door at the Pho place for years. So, when you are seated and get asked if you would like some empanadas, the answer should be yes, but think carefully about how many. One is a nice appetizer, two and you will encroach on the space in your tummy that the rest will fit into - and you want to be hungry... Before I forget - there is a cover some nights when they have a band - get there early as tables get reserved and you won't pay the cover either. They don't speak English the best, not that its a problem, you just may have to deal with it. The food - as traditional and good as you can get. Can't remember the name of it - but they have a platter of mixed cooked meats that's incredible - and big enough to share. Service has always been good. So nice to see a family establishment surviving and the food is excellent.
(5)Diana O.
Great food and authentic! Definitely brings back great memories from my vacation to Colombia. I love that they serve a great amount of food just like in Colombia.
(5)John S.
This is a really fantastic restaurant. The fact that its always full of Colombians and not white people is a good sign. Its in the same shopping center as my office so people from our team regularly walk there for business lunches and meetings. The ambiance is very quiet at lunch, so you can really have a good meeting. The staff is extraordinarily friendly and speak good English too. Colombian food is naturally very mild, but they bring some hot sauce for the Mexicans and Texans who come in. The Colombians on our staff say the food is very authentic. I like the empanaditas for an appetizer and love a good agua fresca, of which they have many great flavors. The classic Colombian non-seafood plate is the Bandeja, which is enormous. They offer a Mini, which is still a large serving of food. Thats what I get, and everything is very good, even down to the rice! On our last visit, we ordered a mango mousse to share, which is in pie form and very light and tasty. If there is a downside, it's the price. It's on the high end, though servings are sizeable. For 3 entrees, 3 drinks, empanaditas, and 1 pie our total was $57 before tip. Still a highly recommended local gem!
(5)Minjoo K.
Finally, an authentic Columbian restaurant in Dallas! Get their empanadas to start with as an appetizer. For our main we both got the Bistec Encebollado with yucca, rice, red bean, and fried plantains. Oh, how I love you plantains! Everything was delicious. Oh, and get the guanabana batido, a Columbian milkshake. It's pricey but so worth every sip! I will definitely be back.
(5)David A.
Very good food, and very filling. Nothing was too greasy and it all taseted homemade. The only thing that was out of place was the Tyson nuggets for the kids. The server was the owner and man he was a nice guy! He helped me choose what to eat based on my preferences which was more meat, less carbs. The food was hot and delicious. We will be back.

Next time you feel like planning a trip to South America to some interesting country like lets sayyy.....Colombia...then you realize that it's either too much money too spend on a country you know nobody in....or even if that is your thing you rather not run the risk of getting assaulted by drug lords...or even if thats your thing you just dont have the free time in your very busy life as a handsome Italian guy.... You can simply take a trip down to Casa Vieja!! Casa Vieja not only provides authentic colombian food but the authentic ambiance to go along with it. This is the kind of place where they will welcome you and sit you down in Espanol if you have dark hair or blonde hair ...you will feel like a tourist... Or like somebody who just teleported to Colombia and landed in one of their best restaurants!! The staff is Absolutely fantastic though when we went it was for Valentines night and they were at their maximum capacity so their hands where a bit tied the FOOD WAS fresh the entire time and there was not too long of a wait time. Live Romantic Guitar music played one of the reasons I came... it was magical. WE ordered the Maracuya and mango juices which Id known would be delicious having tried Colombo-juice before... Its the freshest most refreshingly sweet delicious tasty tangy thing.. you can tell its ALL NATURAL!!!! As an appetizer we ordered an empanada and platains the Platains called Tostones I believe where flatened out and lightely friend not too salted just the right amount and absolutely delicious with the sauces. THE EMPANADA filled with beef and potato was perfectly crispy on the outside and yet somehow soft and fluffy on the inside cradeling within it a tender moist juicy assortment of beef mixed with potatoes that soaked up the beef juices making them lush and accompanied with the sauce delicious!!!!!!! Then we ordered A veggie platter and a Chimi Churri plate....I asked for the Beef to be medium rare and it was cooked to perfection again same tenderness as the beef in the empanadas it was well seasoned and the chimi churri was while not the best Ive had (I like the Argentine more garlicky more Italian-like style) the potato chips or FRIES if you will did not come with Ketchup none of that such nonsense heard of in Colombia apparantely they where delicious dipped in the house sauce! This is not trully a place for vegetarians however as there is only one veggie plate and the section is slim pickings The salad on it was very fresh and the platains again amazing. I was converted to YUCCA for the first time in my life I enjoyed it!! It was as if they made a yucca mash then fried it into big airy Yucca dumplings.... Very tasty!!! Rice was a bit salty but...its just rice after all... IN SHORT were it for more veggie offerings this wouldve been 5 stars! Our trip to Colombia was delicious and amazing!! too bad we had to step back out into Carrollton and realize it was all a dream. a delicious and tasty dream we can go back to hopefully soon!

Great food. Good prices. Loved El Cubano! Went back for 2nd visit and really enjoyed the Mofongo with Beef. The dish was perfect portion size and tasted great. I tried the Colombian soda, reminded me of Ginger Ale, I recommend that as well.

Muy rico!!! Awesome empanadas! That's the plate to get for sure. Also the shishkeabab is excellent... spices are just right. Go for the mango/blackberry swirl margarita..... oooooh yeah! We'll be back!

Place: Clean, colorful and nicely arranged.. Very Colombian atmosphere/decor. (: Menu: Several options to choose from, although from a vegetarian stance not so much. A lot of drink and fresh juice selections to choose from.. Food: I ordered the only Vegetarian Plate listed on the menu, it was very good. Authentic Colombian for sure. My friend had the Plato Caribeño I believe, no complaints either.. (: Service: Our server was very attentive, too attentive. Did not allow much time to really decide and look over the menu, both my friend and I felt rather rushed and uncomfortable.. He was nice, however to him I would suggest maybe allowing people to look over the menu and not come over so quickly, so often.. After receiving the check, we approached the register to pay and an older man came to ring us up.. We asked about using a 'groupon' and he confirmed they do accept. We had just purchased the groupon from our mobile app, he didn't seem to like that idea, his entire demeanor changed completely. He grabbed my phone to take the groupon code, after entering the codein his register he rudely threw my phone down on the counter, even after I attempted to receive the phone by putting my hand out in front of him. I picked up my phone and asked how much their candy at the counter cost, and asked if he could add two onto my check; again very rudely let out a sigh and added the candy.. I paid the total and thanked him.. He just turned his head without a response and looked away. I do not recommend this place to anyone. The service left a very sour impression to me and I don't feel that anyone should have to experience such poor customer service. Thanks for reading.. If you happen to find yourself there, I hope the service has improved.

Delicioso!!! Yummmm!!

We were so excited to go here after reading the great reviews, but we were extremely disappointed and shocked at the prices. The food was ok; the liquados (fruit juices) were good, the empanadas, which everyone raved about, were not good. We asked for a sauce with our steak and they charged us for it with no advance warning. There were 3 of us for lunch and we spent approx $30/each. This restaurant is extremely overpriced for what they offer. We will never go back.

Great Colombian Food!

Great Empenadas, and very friendly---homey place.

Delicious! If you want some good Columbian food you need to stop here! Friendly staff and the food arrived really quick. I had a steak and it was fantastic! You will leave this place with a huge food baby. Totally worth it though!

Im surprised by all the positive reviews about this shit hole cold food, depressing vibe, overpriced horrible! Never again...

I liked this place. The food was interesting, the waitress was excellent, and I got to try something I'd never tried before.

We tried Casa Vieja last night while we in the neighborhood. My wife and I enjoyed it and he waiter was helpful in picking out a few things to try. We started with the empanadas, from his recommendation and they were very good. I won't try to nam the dishes we had, but they were very good. One was like a sampler with steak, fried pork skin, and sausage with beans and rice. The other was a kabob of steak, tomatoe and plantains. I think we would defiantly try it again.

I've been coming to this restaurant since I was 11 years old (I'm 25 now), and the food has always been amazing. Full of flavor, comforting, delicious, when I lived in California I craved this place tremendously. I always came with my family, who are loyal customers and my grandparents are friends with the family that owns this place so service has always been excellent. I highly recommend the Yucca Frita, and I always have been getting the Bistec Encebollado, its delicious! The popularity of this place has grown quite a bit, I highly recommend if you want to come to this place, do not come after 8:30pm. I tried to take my boyfriend here twice after 8:30pm, and we were left waiting at the door and then ignored since there was no table for us. We waited an hour before we were asked if we wanted to sit at a bar that was incredibly high and cramped behind a large table, we didn't mind waiting, we just wanted to sit on a table. We were given a pretty nasty look and told it would be a minute, and they sat another couple at the barstools, and 20 minutes later the people sitting behind us were seated at a table right in front of us. Rude. We waited another 10 minutes and then left. I was shocked at the level of service I had received. This happened twice, but has been the only time I experienced awful service. Clearly they have difficulty navigating heavy volume on popular nights. I came again, this time I made the choice that we arrive at 7, before the crowd. I went with girlfriends and we were seated promptly. Service was incredibly slow but we had a great time chatting so it was no issue at all, we weren't able to leave until 9 though simply because service was that slow. lol , so again, heads up, on a Saturday this is not the place for a quick bite.

Not Colombian, I'm actually salvadorian so I can say this was a really good place to have lunch with friends and family. Empanadas were good, beef brisket potato wrapped in half moon shaped in corn dough. When it comes to the food I ordered what my yelpers recommended. Well worth it!!!!

Talk about a hidden gem! The menu is diverse (especially if you include their deli's next door). I HIGHLY recommend the bandeja paisa-- split the large version with a friend or get the regular and maybe take some home. It's absolutely delicious and not food you'll find a zillion other places in the area. We've been back a bunch of times and it's one of our default stops for out-of-town guests!
(5)Bety R.
I've been to casa vieja twice and I'm surprised to see such good reviews. Honestly my mother in law makes a better Bandeja Paisa than the one we got served and it was overpriced. The empanadas were pretty good though, but I've been to better Colombian restaurants.

As a Colombian, to be able to taste Colombian food while living in another country is just a blessed. This restaurant has authentic Colombian food and allow me to share my flavours with my husband and friends. I can't wait to go back for some empanadas!

Food was delicious & waiter was extremely helpful!

Excellent Colombian food! It is an authentic, casual restaurant so do not expect much of ambience. The food is so good that it won't matter anyway. I had dinner there with some friends some time ago and it was a super hit! My friends loved it and I did too. They had some appetizers for us and we were almost "fighting" over the yuca frita (fried yuca). It is a must have- you will be addicted! We all had different dishes and tryed each other's, all very well made. I had bandeja paisa I think... it was a beef with rice, beens, plantain etc. It was wonderful- very tender and juicy. Service was very slow- we were in about 25 people and had just 1 waiter taking orders, bringing food and drinks. I had asked for the appetizers because I knew it could happened and I was right. Lucky me the appetizers were good and our group was having so much fun talking, it was not a big deal. Another not so positive was the price of drinks- I had a cocktail-like drink (don't remember what exactly) that was supposed to have alcohol in it but clearly had none or very little. And the price was $9. Ouch! My bill was $34 total which is kind of too much for a place like this.
(5)Tiffany P.
Service was exceptional and they had no problem excepting our groupon. Drinks were great and obviously the empanadas were amazing! Yucca was a very generous portion and also very yummy. Skirt steak lacked flavor but the grilled onions on top made up for that. But service by far was what impressed me so I will be back! The cake was interesting and delicious as well.

OMG I'm so glad I get to write a review for this place. This place has THE BEST colombian empanadas on earth!!! They are stuffed(and when I say stuffed i mean STUFFED) with like brisket and potatoes. They bring them out extra hot and fresh out the fryer(worth breaking you diet). You eat that with their amazing salsa aji which is a colombian sauce(vinegar, chives, tomatoe chille cut very small not hot at all). I could eat that all day errday! The vesry best drink that I've had is the crema de limon which is like a tart limeade but they add milk. The drink itself is very filling. The servers are extra nice, very colombian I love their accent. If you go there saturday nights, they have a small square dance floor with live band. The owner there is in her good age and man o man does her and some older man know how to dance salsa! A small place but def 100% authentic. I always eat the bandeja paisa, with the exeption that the platano frito is not like they used to make it, it's very dry. And the arepa is dry as well I find no flavor in it. But the chicharon... YUMMO! I could go on and on in writing but but I don't want to be yelped out for writing too long ^.^ JUST GO THERE! AND TRY THE EMPANADAS!! =)

First time and my husband and I loved it! Excellent food! Staff were nice waiting staff not so good.
(5)Jacob L.
Had a date here. Great atmosphere. Live music and dance. Actual Columbians working here too. I had the bandeja paisa...AMAZING. Got the mini plate and I still couldn't finish it. The beans were amazing, not refried crap. If you want good Columbian food I recommend trying this place. Their mojitos were pretty tasty too, with your choice of fruit juice added to it.

Let's start by saying that we had some of the worst server's. They were not attentive at all and bluntly ignored our party for at least 10 minutes finally my wife had to get up and ask if they had forgot about us or what was going. The servers were going to tables that had just barely gotten sat. We finally got to order and after a five minute wait all the food comes before the appetizers and the server drops a napkin on the floor and bluntly picks it up and lays it down on Top of our appetizers, all the food is already prepared which is not very sanitary especially when your serving Sasage and over easy eggs. (There are no free refills) When it finally came time to pay the same thing happened again the servers kept passing us by until my wife once again had to get up and ask the owner once more what the problem was with our table. Food is not even worth the hassle there are other places that you can go to way better and with better service.

So my friend from Colombia says "Hey let me take you to a Colombian restaurant"! I'm like "They have those?" So off we go to Casa Vieja! Like other Yelpers have mentioned, this place is in the middle of an Asian strip mall, but it wasn't that hard to find. The inside is sort of campesino-style, with a dance floor, a full bar, and lots of stuff from Colombia hanging on the wall. My Colombian friend says it's all very authentic! FOOD: WOW!! This stuff is GOOD!!! We started with empanada appetizers and they were outstanding! YUMMY! I was going to order the paisono plate, but when our server heard of my dietary concerns (I don't like grease) she suggested the brisket plate. Now don't get me wrong, it was good, but I wouldn't order it again. It was, after all, brisket. Next time I'll go with the bistec, which was on my friend's plate and really really good! DRINKS: They have an entire menu of fruit drinks and they are awesome! I had the mamey . . . mmmm it's been a long time! I will definitely be back to Casa Vieja! Great food, fun atmosphere. We had excellent service by the way.

Some things never change!! It's still great!! Visited for a friend's job-award dinner. Hadn't been back in 7 years. Loved the expansion as the place now accommodates more people. We had a reservation. It's a must here. We saw patrons standing for a long time waiting to be seated. I asked for "carne frita con mofongo" and was told that that particular kitchen favorite was no longer served. Darn!!! It didn't matter though. I asked for something similar and the waiter suggested pork chops, fried banana, white rice and beans. Oh it was delicious!! My friends ordered pork, "tostones" and other delicious entries. The food was just AMAZING!!! Best Colombian food you can have!! I had a Piña Colada (or two), which was really good, but a little light on the alcohol. The restaurant owners and staff KNOW that the place is a gem, so be prepared to deal with less than favored waiters if you are not a regular. One of our guests new the owner, and that made a difference in service. I frown upon that because I believe everyone should be given great service. We stayed for the band and before we knew it, we were dancing past midnight! It was great fun!! Take a credit card and then some because it's pricey and before you know it, you've spent a decent $40.00. With drinks, the bill rises quickly. I cannot wait to return!!

Food quality: Food quality is very good! I sampled many items, rices, beans, variety of meats and sides and all of the items tasted are fresh and have bold and authentic flavor. Beans are very flavorful and taste just like "grandma's", meats are cooked juicy and are seasoned perfectly. The empanadas are to die for! The filling is tasty and fills up the entire item, and the crust is one of the best I have ever tasted. The only disappointing item in my experience was the coffee that they served, I asked for a "black coffee" and they brought me a watered down version of your typical coffee maker brew; true, I forgot to specify that really wanted espresso (as Colombian coffee is godly), so maybe I am to blame for not specifying. Regardless, I can make better black coffee than that and taking into consideration the authenticity of the place, they should not serve that coffee anywhere near the restaurant. Food presentation: The food is presented simply and authentically. Plates are clean and the food is organized logically. Authentic Latin cuisine is not about flair, its about flavor! Appearance of restaurant: Restaurant looks "hole in the wall-ish" from the outside, but the inside is very clean and homey. The decoration is authentic and not to distracting or over the top. They have a cute "indoor patio" area that looks very intimate and fun. Service: Service is warm and provided by old ladies that treat you like a grandson/daughter. It is very attentive, affectionate and peaceful. Servers are really helpful and are open to questions and comments. Value: I would have easily and without regrets paid around $50 dollars for the experience I had here with my girlfriend. The total bill (appetizer, 2 entrees and coffee) was $32. I almost jumped from the shock! Value is ridiculously good! There are some "expensive" plates ($20 range) but trust me, they are easily worth double! Your money is very well spent here. In general: THE best place I have gone to for Latin food here in Dallas and one of the best places overall I have ever been in for Latin food. You definitely have to come and eat here! Amazing food, warm service and excellent prices! Note: This review is based on my years of professional experience in the food and restaurant business and reflects my personal opinion.

I had never eaten Colombian food before i entered this restaurant. This place is kind of hidden and your gps might not be useful more than your eyes. We stepped in and we were seated by a lady known as Gloria. She turned out to be the best waitress who was not only patient but guided us through the menu since it's in Spanish. She suggested what we should try and settled on empanada, Plato Caribeno, onion steak and some delicacy called mofongo (spelling?). Everything she suggested was so good and turned out we it was just way more than we could eat so we carried home. Don't pass their fresh Passion juice drink...it's the best i have ever drank in Texas. I would just go there to get this drink. I will be back Gloria for some more Colombian food.

YUM! I can't seem to break away from the Bandeja Paisa every time I visit! This place is seriously good! If you want homestyle, "just like mom makes it" style food...you have arrived at your destination! The portions are hearty, the food is delicious, and the waiting staff are very attentive! They offer interesting drinks, from Colombian specialties to the standard fare of soft drinks. This place seems to be accommodating a large group of people almost every time I come, and it is filled with the natives...so you know the food is good. They also have salsa dancing and feature live music after a certain hour. If you are having your meal when it starts, there is no cover charge. If you want to come for the dancing, there is a modest cover. All in all a great place!

Don't come here thinking Tex-Mex or Mex-Mex! This is pure South American, Columbian, food. This is a great find and will return with others. Thank you.

Oh Colombian food, how much I've missed you! Casa Vieja fit the need to have a delicious home cooked Colombian meal. The menu has all the classics and more. I ordered the stewed sobrebarriga in criole sauce, a specialty from my hometown of Bogota. Along with my jugo de mora, it was an excellent pairing! My husband's bandeja paisa was incredible; the chorizo was the best we've had in years! I highly recommend this restaurant for its great food and its Colombian ambiance.
(5)Martha R.
Everything was delicious. It was the first time my husband and I went. It was Saturday around 9:00pm. The food was great, we order Plato Caribeño and empanadas. They have live music, and it was great! The only thing was the alcohol drinks were light for what you were paying and compared to other places. Overall the ambience and food was great! Would highly recommend it.
(5)Stan L.
i'm surprised as hell how great the food is here despite being located in an ugly strip mall.. i had lunch here recently (lengua guisada en salsa) and it was excellent.. the tongue was tender and the sauce was flavorful.. the yucca and potatoes melts in your mouth.. the meal was also accompanied by a basic salad.. rice.. and a plantain.. needless to say.. i was stuffed.. the owner told me they are changing up a few things on the menu and they should be doing lechon (roast baby pig) soon.. i am so there
(5)Milagros G.
I love it here even though im Mexican! The restaurant is small but very comfortable and the staff was very polite!! The food took a little time but it was definitely worth the wait. So fresh and delicious. Need to come more often! Recommend it to anyone!
(5)Russell C.
Excellent food! Authentic taste! Amazing, fast and friendly service. Like the other reviewers said there is a nice homely feel once you enter the restaurant. Will definitely go there again! We tried a veggie platter along with empanadas and downed it with some brazilian beer! Bliss!!
(5)Gabby T.
This place is great, love their empanadas i ordered el plato de carne asada con patacones and a delicious avocado salad with the mango con leche smoothie.
(5)Esther H.
I love the empanadas! Those are the best things to try! Crunchy on the outside and has shredded beef on the inside - it totally blew me awhile for an appetizer. The main course which I tried was one of the samplers since I was not familiar with an Colombian food. They have pork skin, rice, black beans, plaintains, and corn bread. The corn bread isn't very good. I would skip out on those. But the rest is excellent. I've been told to eat three different things at the same time and it makes for excellent flavor. I agree. The plaintains even out the saltiness of the dish. The atmosphere is a quiet hole in the wall restaurant located behind Denton County Tax Office. You can watch soccer or listen to nice classical guitars while men sing songs in a foreign tongue. The price range is decent. For two its about $50 and under. I would go back simply for the empanadas.

Let me say that I have never eaten Colombian food. My wife and I went here last night, and it was busy. there was a large birthday party in the center of the room (I think thats what caused the slow service). The food itself was okay, I ordered a flank steak and it was over cooked. My wife seemed to enjoy her meal, I think i ordered mine incorrectly. I will be giving this place another go sometime soon. I figure unless the place is terrible give it twice before you blast it. If i could make a suggestion to the place i would tell them not to have "Fresh Cookie" scented candles burning, it didnt complement the food and made it smell weird....
(3)Jamie F.
This place was Amazing! It's totally a hole in the wall little place and very quaint. The food was Fantastic! I can't wait to go back!!!
(5)Eric C.
I've read many reviews about this restaurant; some were good and some bad. I think I need to weigh in on this. My wife and I have dined here on occasion. We've dined here with her family, too, when they visited from Colombia. And I've dined in many restaurants in Colombia and was told I was eating "real" Colombian food then... even when we were dining restaurante nouveau! I have concluded Colombians are ultra critical of authentic foods prepared outside their borders, just like Texans roll their eyes at a bar-b-que sandwich sold in Six Flags or Boston. That said, I would never buy a bar-b-que sandwich from Six Flags but I would definitely return to Casa Vieja. With my wife's permission, of course. The restaurant is medium sized and located in a huge shopping center. Look for the yellow-blue-red Colombian flags on the storefront. Inside you'll find tables and booths and a full bar. The owner collects miniature houses and churches typical in Colombia, and displays them along one wall. Pennants representing many Colombian soccer federations decorate a little gazebo enclosure in the restaurant center, where live music is played at night. Colombians tend to eat heavy in the midday so all portions at Casa Vieja are generous. Evening foods can sometimes be empanadas and picadas, small pieces of ribs, chicharones, yucca, avocado. Colombian foods are not spicy. My favorite entree is sobrebarriga en salsa, sauteed beef brisket cooked in creole sauce of tomato's, onions, with yucca and potato's. Bandeja paisa is a huge country meal consisting of red beans and rice, Spanish sausage, steak, a fried egg, plantain, avocado, a thick bacon-like slab called chicharon, and arepas - a fried thick corn cake. Fillet de Bagre Empanizado is a recipe from the Antioquia river region known for its' fried catfish fillet. A fantastic soup called Ajiaco Bogotano has chicken, three different kinds of potatoes, corn on the cob, and the herb guascas, served with sides of avocado, capers, and creme fresca. The foods here are savory and very tasty, and the best Colombian food you'll find outside... well, I'll let you be the judge.
(4)Ray E.
Great food and lots of it. Then again, I'm not Columbian. So, you'll have to trust my anglo taste buds and ignorance of cultural nuance. Went on a Saturday night, and even though they were wicked busy, they made a place for us to eat. Really nice staff. Good music and great prices.
