I'm from SF. Raised in LA. I love pizza. Period. I've had a lot. In a lot of different places. I think I have an affinity for it. Home slice was good but not great. I called to order a medium pep/mush with cherry peppers not knowing they sell by the slice. I liked the crust the most. Nice and crispy. But the sauce left something to be desired. I will go back to try the other slices and update my review if need be.

One of the best New York style pizza in Austin. It may be overrated, mainly because they've been around for such a long time. It's ok though, cause the pizza is worth it. There's generally a line, since they've built such a following over the years. If you're not into pizza, stop by their restaurant and have one of the most orgasmic meatball sub or calzone ever. Salad is also to die for if carbs are not your thing

best pizza i've ever had without a doubt, and i've been to chicago & new york. a must have every month when i come up to austin, never wasted a dollar here.

  • Frederick T.

Definitely New York style. After moving here from NYC this is by far the most New York style pizza so far. Highly recommend it.

Best pizza in Texas! I came here (actually to the home slice next door but they are the same) in the afternoon on New Year's Eve. We had a group of 7 and we were able to find a table after waiting for around 10 minutes. We ordered at the cashier and then waited for our pizza. All of us got slices and someone also for the garlic knots. I got the pepperoni and I can honestly say it was the best slice I have had in Texas. Crispy. Cheesy. Not too greasy at all. The place gets very packed and parking can be dramatic but it is all worth the wait. Highly recommend home slice to anyone in Austin!

I haven't had pizza this good since I lived in Boston. Awesome pizza and if your in Austin you have to at least get a slice.

  • Stan W.

First, this is the closest thing to Northeastern pizza you'll find in Austin. But I won't repeat any more of what anyone else wrote. I was starving after a long work day and my friend and I stopped in for some take out subs. Craving chicken parmesan and cranky from hunger, I pouted like a six year old when I was told that they weren't serving chicken parm that night. So I went Boston on them and, with the most surly and curt voice I could muster, ordered the eggplant parm instead. However, after 12 years of living in laid back Austin, my Masshole attitude seems to have lost some of its bite. The Home Slice crew is confident. Despite my attitude, the counter help never stopped smiling, because they knew everything would be great. It was. This was the best eggplant parm I've had since back home. The veggie wasn't bitter or undercooked, but tender, mild, and hearty. The breading and oil was present, but not overpowering at all. I think they must bake the eggplant slices instead of frying them, but that doesn't detract in the least. Just right. But it was the simple, perfect marinara and the quality cheese that won me over. It seems like good italian is all about the best ingredients, and clearly they've taken this strategy at Home Slice. Finally, the sandwich was presented in a roll that was exactly what you'd expect. A little crusty, a little chewy, a little yeasty, and able to contain the contents without mess. As for the chicken parm, I'm sure I'll show up on the right night sometime and write another review...unless I get the eggplant again. :-)

Fantastico..who cares what the place looks like that pizza is wonderful

    ehh. a little over rated

  • Rachel W.

this is damn good pizza. other reviewers have raved on and on regarding how good the pizza is, how "near NY" it is, so I won't bore you. it's damn good. BUT the discovery I made today that has changed my life completely is this: the turkey sub. it is as perfect a submarine sandwich as I've ever had. oozing with the right wetness, the bread held up splendidly to the generous insides and all that wet. add hot peppers, and you have a damn good sandwich! in summary: pizza great, but subs divine, too!

    (5)
  • Sagar J.

It was awesome! V close to the slices I'd in NY. I'd recommend the margarita with ample Parmesan sprinkled. The white pie with spinach was mediocre. My friend true the meatball slice. He really liked it-and he is from NY.

    (5)
  • Amarro N.

Really great pizza in a great location. Sells by the slice.

  • Erica M.

Phenomenal. We're new to Austin, and we've been looking for a New York style pizza. We've found a couple of good spots, but this place trumps them all. We've been here couple of times now, and it just gets better every time. The Take-Out side actually has a few seats were you can stand or sit with a slice, and it even feels very New York-ish in there! The meatball/onion combo is one of our favs, and you can't go wrong with the pepperoni and mushroom. Big fans, and we will be back again and again.

  • Bill C.

Had a sausage and garlic slice from the window service. Quick/friendly service even with it being slammed from SXSW. Pizza was as good a I remembered from last year.

    (4)
  • Nat C.

I have a friend who has said that all pizza he has tried has basically tasted the same, no better, no worse. It became obvious once I tried Home Slice that he had never had nor tried a pie that was worth noting, and neither had I! SoCo is in world class all by itself and I look forward to every chance I get to go down there. But of course, no trip is complete unless I get to stop in for a slice and to soak up some atmosphere while I wait! :)

  • Meg B.

Stopped in for a couple of slices and a local beer while exploring South Congress. Yummy pizza and friendly service. I'd visit again!

    (4)
  • Chad M.

Pizza and a beer. What could be better?

    (5)
  • Mike Z.

Could have sworn I reviewed this place. I think it was more like I didn't even have to because everyone else's review says it for itself. This place is the place to get a slice of pizza if you're in town and what an experience. The quality of toppings, the crispiness of the crust and the size of the slice make it all worth the experience. I usually like to keep it simple when I go here. The Marghertia pizza is ace. When you can make a simple ingredient pizza taste great, you're great in my book. Bring out the flavors. They do that. Not my first time there and it won't be my last. I'm hungry already just thinking about it.

    Delicious. Salad is great too

  • L S.

Some of the best pizza I have ever had! We had a terrible meal across the street at Guero's and ordered a pizza to take back to the hotel....best decision ever! Saved the night Home Slice, you are my SUPER HERO!!

    (5)
  • Abe H.

Great pizza and salad. Nice atmosphere and friendly service. Would definitely stop here again.

    (4)
  • Monica G.

Too overpriced for pizza that smells like vomit and tastes like any other mediocre pizza.

    (3)
  • johnny b.

I sound like such an a** but I thought this pizza was eatable at best. Yelp reviewers once again shock me. I'm sure its great when out late but if this is the best NYC style pizza in Austin, eh who cares Austin definitely has best tacos anywhere. I don't need pizza in my diet anyway. This place is not good.

    (2)
  • Kade B.

I really don't understand the hype about this place. I grew up in Texas but for the past 10 years lived in NYC and probably had a million pies/slices in that amount of time. That said, when I moved to Austin and saw this place I thought "This has to be a NY pizza kind of place since they tout it as such" so I went in and order a regular cheese pie. To be honest, if this place was opened in NY it wouldn't be considered a NY style pizza. If I never lived or ate pizza in NYC I would probably have rated it a bit higher OR if this place didn't act like it was a true NY Pizza joint I would have rated it another star but that isn't the case. Seriously, I scratch my head on the reviews on this place from the people who think this is great NY pizza. It isn't. Go to John's or Grimaldi in Brooklyn first then you can't honestly say this even comes close. Rename it Texas style pizza Home Slice, please!

    (1)
  • Don P.

Why is pizza circular? Is it because those darn italians throw the dough in the air and spin it so it becomes roughly round... or is it because there was a vast war-based shortage of rectangular pans back in the day and so people just made due? And while we're on the subject... why are pies round? Oh, and Home Slice makes a good pizza. But you already knew that from the 70 other recommendations.

    (4)
  • Ashley M.

Note to self...dice tomatoes. We split a slice of margarita and the execution was on point. Diced tomatoes and tiny basil strips. Crispy crust. Enough said.

    (5)
  • Rocky W.

Great Pizza! Too busy they need to open another location already lol! I love the clam Pizza and The Meatball with Italian sweet peppers! Perfect Crust i want the recipe!

    (4)
  • Cheryl B.

My hubby loves this place and I like it. It makes for a fun and different date night. Just be ready for a wait!

    (4)
  • Cyndi G.

Location, location, location. I like the pizza here--it's fresh and fast. But, the ingredients are not plentiful, the sauce is average and frankly, I'm a bigger fan of the Neapolitan crust style (a little crispy please) If this was in the suburbs I don't think anyone would rave about it.

    (3)
  • Justin C.

New York style pizza, by the slice or pie. Best pizza in Austin. By far. It's that simple.

    (5)
  • Allan W.

This was hands down some of the best pizza I've ever had. I think I'd prefer this to going back to Chicago and getting some deep dish pizza there. I didn't even want pizza and we were going to go somewhere else then I smelled this and it just drew me in, along with my wife and my mother who was visiting a few weeks ago we ended up eating a whole large pizza (me more like 1/2 - I bicycle a lot lol) together. The wait was long but well worth it!

    (5)
  • Kara L.

Some wait but staff is incredible and the pizza is worth every penny!!

    (5)
  • Leslie H.

    Good stuff!

  • Cupcake S.

Home Slice smells delicious and is nice New York style pizza. When I first moved here, I was in awe of how good the pizza was. But now that I am a more experienced Pizza aficionado, I can say that it's not THE best pizza I have ever had but pretty yummy.

    (4)
  • Roxxanna R.

    Delicious anytime anyday!

  • Sherri C.

My favorite pizza place in Austin, a city where it is hard to find good pizza. I use the walk up window and you can get a slice for $3.00. It is thin crust, oven fired pizza with just the right amount of fresh toppings. I grew up loving the smell of fennel and associating it with pizza and they have not only cheese and red peppers but a shaker of fennel on the shelf outside the slice window. There is nothing like going to hear Redd Volkert do a Saturday matinee at the Continental Club and then heading over to Home Slice to visit with a friend over a slice a pizza. My only complaint is that they aren't open on Tuesdays.

    (4)
  • Jackson R.

OK, I've slammed every pizza place I've reviewed. Some of the words haven't been pretty. Maybe I shouldn't compare the pizza places in Austin to those in cities with good pizza. I had hope walking in, as it looks like a real pizzeria might. Maybe this was the place. Maybe I had found good pizza in Austin. I ended up hurting the waitress' feelings. She raved and raved about the pizza, promising that it would be as good as any I had ever had. I wanted to believe her. When she asked what I thought of it halfway through, I told her that "it wasn't bad". That was a big step for me. Finding a pizza that wasn't bad was a triumph for me. Unfortunately, it seemed to be a disappointing response for our server. If she only knew. I will probably go here again, which is more than I could say for any other pizza in Austin.

    (3)
  • Alan M.

The pizza is okay. Cool location.

    (3)
  • EJ C.

Great all around pizza. Service was great, the pizza was delicious and the price was reasonable. The wait was long, but we were lucky enough to get some seats at the bar, which gave us a great view of dough-twirling pizza making!

    (4)
  • Jonathan S.

My only complaint against Home Slice is that they only have two locations and it can take awhile to get seated or service. Other than that, the pizza is the best in Austin, good salads as well to start off with. If you go to the sit down restaurant, hang out in the back at the ping pong table in the semi-shade with a drink if you can. Otherwise, Home Slice and More Home slice are the best pizza in town and one of the top 3 places we take out of towners to.

    (5)
  • Tiffany D.

My friends and I ventured to home slice at around 4 in the afternoon and we STILL had to wait about an hour for a table....that really sucked, especially when you're hungry. HOWEVER, Home Slice Pizza was the bomb dot com. We ordered the Margherita, the sausage, ricotta, and roasted peppers, and then we built our own with sausage mushrooms and peppers. They were all really good pizzas. We also had the garlic knots which were not that garlic-y, so we probably won't have that again. Writing this review makes me want a slice...

    (3)
  • Cheryl E.

Good pizza. Not the best but good. My pizza lacked a charred, bubbly crust and was further impacted by far to much garlic and not enough salt. I may have caught them on an off day - and given the cudos here - I am certainly going to try Home Slice again.

  • Cayla G.

Trendy little hot-spot in Austin, a place I would suggest for an Austiny experience. The wait staff has great tattoos and "keep Austin weird". I'd suggest this place to families and friends, but make sure that you're prepared to wait awhile- this place is popular and tends to have an hour-long wait for parties of 5+. Also, if you have a child make sure you ask for a dough ball for them to play with! The chefs will provide a little ball of raw dough that works like playdough. I don't have kids myself, but I've seen a few chitlens having a ball playing with the dough- I tend to find myself a little jealous. Have fun!

Love it love it love it! If only they had canadian bacon!

Good place, good vibe, good pizza. Give it try.

Just hands down my favorite pizza in town...

  • Veronica P.

Brought a friend from New York who has been loudly lamenting the loss of "good pizza." I've taken him numerous places and nothing has been good enough except for a place in Houston that was just adequate and that's too far for even great pizza. Lol. He has proclaimed Home Slice to be the best pizza he's had outside of New York. Great job, Home Slice! Crust was nice and crisp and the sauce has a little zip to it. Pepperoni was really good. Two thumbs up. We did find out we are here while most of the seasoned staff (pun intended) are in New York and they still did not disappoint. Yay!

    (4)
  • Vicki L.

Hands down, best NYC-style pizza and cheesecake in Austin! Instead of ordering an entire pie, I prefer getting slices because Home Slice reheats them in the oven which makes the crust nice and toasty - just like getting a slice in NYC. Their version of margarita pizza is amazing: made with fresh mozzarella and tons of basil and garlic. Their calzones and deserts are also super tasty, and their beer and wine selection totally compliment the menu.

Love Home Slice, the closest thong to real NY style pizza. the guys are fast and friendly. Long live Home Slice

We made really good time on our drive into Austin, so a quick Yelp search led us to Home Slice. Being a pizza lover as any other warm blooded American is, naturally I thoroughly enjoyed this place. Some other posters have written about the smell and I must emphasize that the most. The delicious pizza smell is literally packed in this place. I cannot describe it, but it is the most potent and powerful pizza aroma I have smelled coming from a restaurant. Ok now onto the pie. We went with the pepperoni and mushrooms and were not disappointed. The pizza is NY style, but slices aren't as big/unwieldy as other NY style advertised places. Not overly greasy, the sauce was perfect and not a whole lot of cheese either. The big thing is dough/crust in my mind, absolutely delicious. Definitely will be going back next trip to Austin.

    (4)
  • Chris S.

Best Pizza I've ever had. Bar none. Multiple visits. Different pizza's tried. Garlic Knots are amazing. Even still, go 100% pizza cause it's unreal.

    (5)
  • Jen B.

Home Slice doesn't even need my review. Obviously! Everyone loves their pizza. This place is all around awesome. I would recommend doing takeout so you don't have to wait around for a table. Love you home slice!

    (5)
  • Charles A.

We only had 1 pizza, white sauce, olive oil, & spinach but it was big enough for my wife, son and myself to split and have leftovers. And it was really, really good. The atmosphere was nice and laid back too.

    (4)
  • George E.

This place has some of the best pizza in the area. The calzones are to die for. If you happen to be strolling around down town and are in the mood for pizza, stop by. You will leave smiling. :)

II am a pizza expert. Nice crust. Nice sauce...quite nice...still searching for the place that beats my pizza, but this is the closest I have come. Great.

Great pizza, great service in the best part of town! Nothing to complain about here!!! Definitely a "must eat" in Austin!!! (And worth a trip south for all of you North Austin folk!)

The people of r/Austin suggested this pizza place but I was not impressed by the food at all but I will say the girl who took our order was very nice.

its a shame that I'm forced to leave a star. poor quality cisco tasting "pizza" worst table service ever. not kidding. will not be back, will never understand the hype.

  • Thuy T.

I loved home slice when I lived in Austin and its my go to place with my family bc we play ping pong in the back patio while we wait for our table. I buy an extra large pizza to bring back to Houston and its still sooo good when I heat it in the oven. When I eat pizza I usually do not eat the crust to lessen my carb intake LMBO ....but I do love home slice's crust. I always order fresh mozzarella, cherry peppers, pepperoni, and basil Yummy!

    (5)
  • Kristin F.

This is amazing pizza! I would drive to Austin from Dallas ANYTIME just for this place!

    (5)
  • Jeffrey S.

Great greasy pizza. Nothing super fancy, but solid ingredients and dough. The absolute perfect place to stop for a slice or two and a soda after the bars close!!

    (4)
  • Chelsea S.

WOW, Homeslice has fantastic, flavorful, huge pizzas. You might have to wait because this place is pretty dang popular, but it's worth your while. If you have a long wait, you can always go to Guero's across the street and grab yourself a margarita while you listen to music outside. You can eat inside or out, hey, I've eaten on this pizza on the curb before.

    (5)
  • Arick W.

Best pizza in Austin? One guy wrote best in the world. Are you kidding me? It's decent pizza but nothing out of this world stellar. Not even close in fact. Some of my friends are straight up addicted to this place. I have no idea why. I've been only a few times and all were certainly forgettable. Throw in the fact that parking on S. Congress sucks, there's very little seating inside, and the pizza is just average I would much rather go to East Side Pies or just go home and throw a DiGiorno in the oven.

    (3)
  • Lily S.

With a thousand reviews, doesn't seem to be much reason to post, however I think the moniker as 'best pizza in austin' is a little overblown. It's good pizza, but it's not outstanding.

    (2)
  • Alek Z.

Very decent pizza joint on SoCo. Very limited seating inside or out.

    (3)
  • Kyle H.

Great pizza - however horribly overrated. Do not expect this to change your life, instead just a great slice of pie.

    (4)
  • Rachel K.

I visited Austin for the weekend from out of state. My taxi driver suggested Homeslice, and in glad I tried it. The pizza was awesome, and the prices were fair. It also has a great location, especially for people who are going up and down South Congress afterward. I went on a Friday night. The line to the window was long but moved adequately quickly. Try this place!

    (5)
  • Angel H.

I've heard about this place so much. I've heard this is the best pizza in Austin that it tastes just like the famous New York pizza. Let me just start by saying the pizza isn't bad. But it's not a good thing when the house salad was the best thing I ate when I was here. LET ME TELL YOU. That salad was amazing. And it was just a house salad!! The pizza was okay. It's worth a try. Both my husband and best friend agreed with me. It was just a regular pizza.

    (2)
  • Andrew A.

Love this place. Return customer since it was just one store. Reminds me of pizza in NYC. Staff is friendly and service is good. Pizza the best. Worth the drive and the wait. Also great subs! In a hurry sit at the bar or go to the takeout annex. Whole pie or by the slice. Great Pizza !

    (5)
  • Tae S.

Home slice you make me think of NYC. While you are not quite NYC pizza you are darn close and I think I am sitting on the stoop in Harlem eating a slice. I like that I can walk up to a window and order a lice. Man, if that does say NYC..what does. Then the crust is crispy and the pizza has a food cheese and pie ratio. It's a bit confusing where to pick up your pie or to look for a person. However, that is something you can get over once the pie slice hits your mouth. Located on congress where parking is a mad house, but you wait because one slice of pizza pie can be a game changer. Cheers to Home slice.

    (4)
  • Stephen L.

Seriously disappointed. This is basically a New York pizza, which is about a $1 - $2 in New York. Where it loses points is that it was too expensive for just a pizza. Granted I am from new york, so if they are true to the claim of new york.

    (2)
  • Jessica N.

If you're willing to brave the crowds this place draws (especially on the weekend), it's definitely worth the wait! We had to wait about 2 hours to get a seat here, but it gave us time to walk around Congress Street, so it turned out to be fine. We ordered the Eggplant pie and it was amazing! I can't believe how thing and crisp the eggplant was - it was cooked like eggplant parmesan, with a nice crispy bready crust. The pizza was a thin crust with an even balance of chewiness and crispiness. The leftover piece we brought back with us did not survive the car ride home after a trip to 6th street because the smell in the car was intoxicating. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who is a pizza lover. Just be warned that you won't be alone in really wanting a slice and you'll have to patiently wait for it!

    (4)
  • Lisa Y.

Pretty darn good pizza for Texas. And I'm from north jersey, the land of pizzerias. Had a plain slice and a margarita slice. Both excellent. Even bought a t shirt. I'll be ordering pies from here if I'm ever in Austin again!

    (4)
  • Alex H.

I'm from Chicago. I've eaten NY style pizza. This is no where close to either. Fine for drunken end of night snack, when you already have made bad decisions, but that is all. My sister in law said it best "it tastes like barf".

    (2)
  • Bre R.

Honestly It's not that great, good but not worth the wait, there are way better places to eat if you are visiting Austin. I really don't get why it is so hyped up. It is good pizza but nothing special and the customer service is always bad (the dine in side) and no I'm not referring to them taking long or anything like that, but just being rude and condescending to customers. I guess they get so much recognition they think it's okay to talk to customers however they please...I've been a few times and never really loved it.

Congrats to Home Slice Pizza on a wonderful location and a good product. We chose the WRONG night to try this for the first time. Our wait was an hour and a half, but the patio was nice and had a bar. However, it was not worth the hour and a half wait. I tried to imagine the experience if I hadn't had to wait and wanted to review it based on that. It's not their fault I picked one of the busiest nights of the year to try their restaurant. Their patio earns them their first star - great atmosphere and tucked away, wouldn't have even known it was there if I hadn't had to go there to wait and get a drink. Their service earns them another star - their servers all had that "austin" flair and they had a competition that night to see if you could guess which waiter's name was actually named "Jim" like all of their name tags depicted. If you guessed it, you got 10% off your order. I was really into trying to figure this out. Their food gets a star - the garlic knots were yummy, but we ordered a large pizza for two people and we could only eat half of it! It was really good. I love that they keep parmesan, oregano and red pepper on the table. The kitchen was very quick! They get a star for that - it was quick, despite the wait. I loved the smarties they give you when you get your bill - very unique. I recommend just going next door to the "to go" section and getting a slice of pizza on a paper plate and then coming back over and hanging on the patio and order a drink from the bar - it would be quicker and you get to enjoy the patio.

I've been to Austin twice and stopped to eat at Home Slice each time. The fact that I remembered it from my first visit two years ago should tell you something. It's a thin crust pizza that remains crisp. While not the best pizza I've ever had, it is pretty good.

  • Athenapex C.

We went for the takeout homeslice and were through the line pretty quickly. We bough by the slice and the pepperoni is a favorite. We took a chance on the meatball and onion which was the special for the day which was good but the pepperoni was better. Crust is super crisp which is what thin crust should be. Not so sure it would be as delicious at home. Warning: the margherita doesn't have tomato sauce under the toppings in case you were wondering.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together.
