I must say I was truly satisfied. When I got there the sign said sold out, there were still a few people in line so I got in line. There was still ribs, sausage, and beef left. The guy gave me enough food to last for 3 days. The beans were delicious as well as the coleslaw. The meat fell of the ribs it was so tender and seasoned just right. I will defiantly come back when I'm in Austin again.

I went with my son, a UT student, on a cold Tuesday in January. We arrived at 11 AM and our wait was about 2 hours. It was worth it. Also, me made temporary friends with several other people in line with us. We came for the brisket and it was awesome, as expected. But we also ordered smoked sausage, pork ribs, and smoked turkey. All were excellent. Being from Alabama, I was skeptical about pork ribs in Texas, but these were about as good as the best I've ever had. We also had a side of potato salad, which was also very good. So, the wait in the cold was bad, but the food was wonderful. I highly recommend Franklin's.

My family and I stood in the infamous line for this bar b que a few months ago. Simple and Plain- It's bar b que, this is Texas. I have had way better bar b que. They hype is just that- hype. I met some cool people in line and that's about the only lasting impression I experienced at Franklin. It's ok but by no means is it worth the line.

I used to go there back in the day before that commercial! Before there were lines, before they ran out of food. Yes it is a special place and I love that it's on the east side! The process they go through to cook the food with just the right wood... must understand the effort to fully appreciate the results. Delish!! And you can always meet interesting people there as well :)

I'm not the biggest fan of BBQ, but their brisket is well worth the long wait in line. It melts in your mouth, but has just the perfect amount of crispy flavored crust/rub to it. Waited in line 2 hours. Was one of the last people to order. After we got our order and sat down they came over and asked us if we wanted the rest of their meat to take home for free!!! They gave us a hefty amount of free chicken, ribs, and brisket. We scored!

I'm a fan, however i don't think it's worth to wait that long. Micklewait craft meats is so close and less wait.

At this point, there's nothing new that anyone can say about Franklin so instead, I offer you and update to help you better assess the line situation. We arrived at 8:50am on a Tuesday and ate around 12pm. We were about 30' past in the building, in terms of line position. Also, brisket is up to $19/lb, now.

Awesome! Even the long wait was OK with good friends. Don't miss the ribs.

This place.. I am still unsure if it was worth the five hour wait and in the rain. It was like standing in line for a ride at Disney but all for my mouth. But I will have to make a statement like: This is the best bbq I have ever had in my life... Adjectives to describe the brisket and ribs WITHOUT sauce: moist, tender, juicy, mouth watering, melts in your mouth, flavor packed, meat just fell off the rib bone. Meats with their vinegar bbq sauce: bbq heaven Side dishes: potato salad and coleslaw. Both tasted like they had a vinegar base and they were both so, so good. They were made the way I love eating it. I think that franklins is definitely worth it to try at least one in your life. I'd say the wait is part of the experience. The smoked meats smell just make your hangrier as you approach the counter.

Came for lunch based on the extraordinary reviews. Franklin Barbecue lived up to the best descriptions. Brisket and pulled pork sandwiches were exceptionally good. The best we've ever enjoyed. Staff very concerned we knew it was possible they'd run out of food even if they let you wait on line. We just made it.

I came here on a weekday morning in the summer, having heard previously from many people that the lines were way too long on the weekends and during the school year, when all the students are on campus. I got to Franklin at around 7:30 am and there was already a short line of about 10-12 people. The parking lot behind the restaurant was approaching capacity and the people who came after had to find parking on the street/near the CVS. My friend and I waited about 4 hours to eat(3.5 until it opened, another half hour waiting in line to order). We ordered the pulled pork, ribs, and brisket. My favorite out of the trio was actually the ribs, as they were melt-off-the-bone tender. The fatty brisket was amazing and juicy, but I couldn't eat too much before it got to heavy for me. The pulled pork was delicious as well, but I wouldn't say it was the best I ever had. All in all, a pretty enjoyable experience as it was a nice day and people made friendly conversation in line. Giving them four stars though because I'm not sure if I would wait again in line to eat it. I Definitely recommend it for those who haven't tried it before though! Tips: go on a nice weekday, bring some lawn chairs, and keep an open appetite!

Why in the world would anyone stand in line for hours for mediocre barbeque?? I did & I regret it. The only reason people come here is to say they did,& most of the crowd are hipsters who I doubt know the first thing about barbeque. Seems like everyone is taking a pretentious sticks advice when it comes to anything nowadays. Ive had better barbeque at Pokejos, not too mention I just had some Q at SLAB BBQ in North Austin & boy was it GOOOOODD. Try not to let a bunch of hipsters( especially out of Texas) tell you what "GREAT" BBQ is...
