The food was hot. I ordered fried catfish and it was great. The waitress was very slow and they were not busy. I went at 1:00pm after the lunch hour.

Great food, great service. Nice atmosphere. The grilled Salmon is awesome. Sharon 's Ribeye is very tasty.
(4)Sam P.
Very solid food in a dressed-down atmosphere...and that's not a complaint. The wife and I had the ribeyes, and both were excellent. The sides were decent, but nothing to rave about. Service was very friendly and prompt. The stuffed jalapeno appetizers were incredibly good, but served in small portions. No problem with that, but I was expecting them to be served as halved peppers, they were more like quarters. I'll know to order the bigger portion next time! This is a place I'd bring visiting friends to for a solid meal and a few drinks....Texas style.
(4)Janice S.
One of the best steaks I've put in my mouth all year! Our server was so attentive and yet not intrusive. The Abilene ribeye was cooked to my request perfectly and it was tastey. Next time I'm in Abilene I'll get it again and split it with my mom. It was the second most expensive thing on the menu (a little high for me) but the steak was pretty big.
(5)J Wade H.
Good place to have a ribeye. Cooked to order. Service is always great. Went with the green beans and baked potato for the sides and they did not disappoint.
(4)Michael S.
Good steaks just not a 100% keen on the seasonings they put on the meat. That meat is good enough quality that it should just be left alone. Other than that, good service and nice wait staff.
(4)Joe K.
Lytle is a very good little "Texas steakhouse" in Abilene. Kind of like a "Texas Roadhouse" leaning towards more of a serious steakhouse. They have a very good selection of steaks, as well as the standard Texas style steakhouse items, including chicken fried chicken / steak, wings, chili con queso, fajitas, quesadillas, etc. However, my personal recommendation from Lytle are the Chicken Fried Steak and the the Schnitzel. As some of the other reviews show, Lytle is known by the locals as being possibly the best overall restaurant in the city of Abilene. I don't disagree--it's a very excellent place to eat.
(4)Jacob M.
Could be more disappointed...it used to be good but in the last few years it has been a completely implosion in food quality, service, and overall consistency. You are a steakhouse, in Texas, that has to be perfect! I am fine if a steakhouse doesn't have the best salad, but its sad when the steaks and the service are horrible. I also agree the gnats and flies are gross.
(1)David C.
If you are looking for a fancy place then this is not it. Concrete floors and paper table clothes but the food is excellent. I have had the steaks several times and always been great, tuna is cooked perfectly and the salmon is great. Service is average but frankly I go for the food. I have taken several out of town guests there and they are always bragging on how good the steaks are. The owner is a great lady who works hard to make sure everything is set for a customer getting a good meal. If you want a recommendation then order Sharon's Ribeye, it is large and delicious.
(5)Cindy B.
Ate there for lunch. Hot, fresh bread tasted great, as did the chicken fried steak. Friendly service, too. I'll return soon for dinner.
(4)Brad W.
Abilenian Steak! Consistently one of the best steaks I find in my travels. Great little food joint.
(4)Karen T.
Make sure to start with a cold margarita & hot poppers wrapped with bacon & grilled. We did lunch right after a morning of horse showing. Our thoughts are, summer in Abilene is not for the weak! Thank god for the Lytle Oasis! This place dishes up some of the finest beef I've ever tasted. The margaritas aren't bad either, they just need to be double sized on account of above 100 degree temps. My only complaint is that , loving horses, I hate flies! I hope they didn't follow me in!
(4)Haley B.
They food here is amazing every once in a while I will drive up from Austin on my way to see my brother in Lubbock and I never stop anywhere else. My favorite is the quail and the loaded potato side ( I can't remember what the real name of it is but it is amazing)
(4)B G.
My last dining experience consisted of "fresh" (rotten) oysters in plastic cups for $14. The food is okay but the prices are higher than the quality. The scenery is nice and they have a great location down the road from the Expo Center/Shotwell but if you're willing to drive a bit further and eat much better food for the same prices, Copper Creek is a much better restaurant.
(2)Christie P.
We came to Lytle's expecting an excellent steak dinner, and we were not disappointed! My husband and I both had Sharon's Ribeye, and the steaks were cooked perfectly, juicy and delicious! Side salad was simple, and we liked the house-made vinaigrette dressing. One thing that could be improved: wine list was REALLY lacking. I know I'm a wine snob, and Abilene is one step away from being a dry town, but I was really hoping for something better than Yellowtail or Franzia to compliment such delicious steaks.
(4)Kristen N.
The food is pretty good. I'm not much for steaks and such so I've only gotten chicken and the hamburger steak with onion and bell pepper. LOVE the cheese fries, they're smothered with a queso with bacon. My favorite thing there by far!
(3)John G.
My family and I moved to the area a few months ago and I had heard from multiple locals that I should try it out. I ordered the "Fresh Oysters" and was quite puzzled when they were individually served in plastic ramekins over ice. I asked another waitress why they were served this way, and she then told me they were out of a jar. What?! I thought the menu stated "Fresh Oysters", not "Jarred Oysters". I then asked our waitress if this was true, and then she said they were shelled. If they were shelled why wouldn't you serve them in the shells like every other restaurant that has ever served raw oysters. Why would you waste the ramekins if you had the shells from the oysters you just freshly shucked? Thank God for the Catfish that saved the day. Although, I ate all 12 of those oysters and my stomach is starting to gurgle. I have to say that the pork cutlets my friend ordered were phenomenal, or I would have given this place 1 star. Will try again, but I'm steering clear of the Oysters for sure!
(2)Robby M.
The best steak I've ever had hands down. Me and some friends were just passing through abilene and wanted a good steak house while there. It was absolutely incredible. Highly recommend the food. The service was a bit lacking, but the food more then made up for it. Great place!
(4)Alex J.
Let me just start out by saying I didn't know whether to give the steakhouse 4 or 5 stars but decided on 4 because the steak I had ordered was medium and was suppose to be pink all the way through but had very little pink at all. But none the less it was extremely good. Everyone at our table was satisfied with their meals. Our waiter was extremely nice and kept our drinks filled the whole time. Loved the lightening. It was very dim, lots of TV's to watch all the sports on. Good for a night out with your other half or a good family night out with kids. It's very casual so no need to dress up. T-shirt and jeans or kakis and a polo are fine. Overall it was a great experience and if you like jalapeño poppers. They have the best. We are here on business but Will be back if we stay here much longer.
(4)Butch S.
Worst service I have ever had, after finally ordering "Sharon's Rib Eye" one hour past before I was served, not the only one that night.
(1)Don S.
Moderate priced steak house with excellent food. Service was good My wife especially liked the tilapia. Only downside was the fact that the room was too cold.
(4)Todd S.
The best ribeye you can find. All around good food for the price. I make it a point to hit Lytle Land every time I'm in Abilene. Cold Shiner on draft is hard to beat.
(5)Ron M.
Worked right next door all week, unable to leave the property. The menu says they will bring your pickup order out to your car if you don't want to come in. But they absolutely refuse to bring your food 20 feet further to the edge of the parking lot even for a 5 dollar tip. It was almost 1:30 and there were hardly any cars in the parking lot. But that's OK. There are plenty of other places happy to take my money.
(1)Jessica H.
We went here for my birthday dinner and I was pleasantly surprised. The interior is Texas chic, which I could have done without, and I felt a little bad for the wait staff with their cowboy uniforms, but I'm sure it is appreciated by the masses. Our waitress was very nice and gave us plenty of time to peruse the menu. I opted for the sirloin beef tips over mashed potatoes, and he got the ribeye with a side of shrimp. Everything that we chose tasted great, had minimal gristle, and was good portion sizes too. I had skipped an appetizer in favor of peach cobbler (single serving size) which again, was great - not too sweet. We are planning on trying Sharon's BBQ at some point - people tell us it is just as good.
(4)Carl R.
Driving from DC to Cali craving a steak Yelp led me to this wonderful place. The service was great, my ribeye was perfect, my wife's blue cheese filet salad was perfect. Thanks for the great meal!
(5)Kat B.
Ate here while driving through abilene on our way to New Mexico. I thought the steak was just mediocre. The service was fine but not that friendly. The kids steak was somewhat overpriced, though they liked it and enjoyed the wedge fries. Broccoli tasted somewhat rubbery, as if it'd been frozen. I don't think I'd go back.
(2)Becky A.
My family and I had a great experience at Lytle! The butterflied filet minion was awesome and we also liked the cowboy potatoes a gratin! The prices and portion sizes on the kid's meals were also decent.
(4)Kris G.
Ick. Poor service, gross food.
(1)Aaron G.
Love this place. Great food, my wife and I always split the abileneian, with some great great appetizers and a couple of pitchers of beer. Fair priced, great food, great service.
(5)Giulia B.
I ordered the burger for lunch. It was very good. Juicy. The fries were crispy on the outside and tender inside. The unsweetened tea was very good. The waitress was excellent. Very attentive despite a very challenging workload, as the place was packed. She kept the complimentary bread and lots of real butter coming for our large party. I love the stuffed jalapenos, but no longer get as they have priced them too high. Although the food is very good, it is rather expensive. (Hence, I ordered above said burger) In my humble opinion, it would behoove Sharon Allen to put a "Poor Cowboy" menu addition on for the folks such as I who refuse to spend $30 on a meal/drink and tip per person. That said, they have good eats. Also, they have a Buy One/Get One Free coupon in the Texas Value card Coupon (Abilene Edition)
(5)Wes A.
I was in Abilene on training for the airlines with some of my co-workers from L.A. and this is how it went down.... We walked into this beautiful rustic looking steak joint and then we rOlled out happy as can be=)..LOL.. if I had to sum this place up with few words they would be BIG HUGE JUICY STEAK!.....More than enough for you $ I strongly recommend!
(5)Marj H.
. We had driven in from Pearl Miss. through a tornado and were stressed and tired and it being Easter Sunday, we weren't sure what would be open. This place was. One star for that alone. We got there and seated ourselves. The server came over and greeted us and took our drink orders. She returned a few minutes later and gave us menus. I got hamburger. I like mine plain, with mustard. That's what I got. Plain with a little mustard. Burger was not anything special. Quarter pound, thin, cooked through. Not much different from any other burger, Burger King, McDonald's, Wendy's, etc. Just "meh...I've had better." Texas french fries all seem to have a little coating of some kind I want plain old potatoes, no coating, or extra seasoning, just potatoes, fried, salt. Also got steamed veggies which were OK, even though a little overdone. All in all, just not that memorable. Oh, and one very odd thing... When you open the door to go in, there is some kind of air vent over the door that blasts you with air. Very strong, sudden, like one of those things at the fun house at a fair. Very odd, But they were open late on Easter Sunday..

The first time i went here, we were deciding on the name of our first son. We wrote the name choices on the table and discussed them all thru dinner, coming to a decision before the check arrived. That might have mared my memories of the food. However I returned to dine there today and I wasnt impressed. The steak wasnt that good and once again the sides were barely passable. The service was good but they could do so much better.
(3)Steve C.
Best steak in town, inexpensive, good comfort food sides, decent bar to hang out in, but chinzy on the alcohol in the mixed drinks like most every restaurant in Abilene. Rustic interior as befits a West Texas steak house. Sharon Riley was clearly the creative genius when she was married to Joe Allen who has the second best steaks in town. No need to dress up . . . you'll fit in fine in just fine in your boots and a cowboy hat . . . no pretense here, just good food.
(4)Diana L.
Incredible steak. Great service. Standard steak house prices. Just as a heads up, any non texans should be aware that if you ask for medium rare- the thing will still be mooing on the plate. the medium rare you get in many places in California is less pink and juicy than their medium, which is absolutely perfect. It was so delicious; I wish I had another excuse to go back!
(5)Joe R.
mesquite fire grilled ribeyes. mmmm. macallan 12yr. YUK! was that gin in there? WAITRESS!
(4)Kathy W.
We don't go here often, but every now and then we give it another try. Last time I think everyone at the table was dissappointed by the food. It just wasn't very good at all.
(2)Colleen M.
Three of us went there today for lunch. If I could have given the experience a negative five I would have. First off the place is painted dark grape purple with black trim. The most unappetizing color for a restaurant ever. We sit down and since its lunch time we look at the lunch menu we have been given. When it comes time to order we are told we can't order from the lunch menu on the weekend. Ok, my bad, we didn't see the little notice there. But when we look at the regular menu it is three times as expensive! So we change our orders and wait. They bring our "salad" a heaping bowl of iceburg lettuce topped with one grape tomato, one black olive, and one small ring of onion and tons of stale croutons. As we are eating our salads a waitress walks from table to table swatting flies with a fly swatter. She squashes a juicy one on the table next to us and scrapes its dead carcass on the floor and walks away. My jaw just drops open. Are you serious? Our food comes and it can only be described as bad cafeteria food. My "sirloin tips" were not tips, and not even sirloin. It was mostly canned mushrooms in canned gravy on top of grainy mashed potatoes with a few small sugar cube sized pieces of tough beef. I couldn't eat it as my stomach started to hurt. The green beans were so overcooked they were disintegrating. They tasted canned to me. During our meal a cloud of flies swarmed past our table and made us miss the lady wit the fly swatter. She did wander around swatting some more after that so hopefully she got a few more. My daughter's chicken breast was very thin as if it had been butterflied and the other half was given to someone else. Her husband's grilled fish had no seasoning on it at all and had bits of char on it from a dirty grill. The waiter was attentive and we still tipped well - it wasn't his fault the food was so bad. Our meal cost almost $50 for three people and it was disgusting. The atmosphere was disgusting, and the fly swatting waitress was unimaginably disgusting. The table covers are butcher paper so the next people who eat there get bug guts on theirs!! If you have to spend $30 a person to get good food there I'll pass. Even chili's can deliver a decent steak meal for lunch for $13.

You can't miss at Lytle's! My wife & I had the big ribeye (the Abilener), and it was a wonderful piece of meat that was prepared perfectly. The stuffed japs & Freud veggie platter were great appetizers, as long as you have a huge appetite or don't mind taking home a doggie bag (since it's a lot to eat in one sitting). We would have loved to try the dessert, but were too full... Maybe next time!
(4)mike t.
Great steak! Cold Beer! Awesome nachos! Good Burgers! and the game of the night running on their TV's in the bar. If they could only make decent French fries(I am not a fan of big honking "steak fries") its the place for your MEAT fix! :)
(5)Tony D.
If you like ribeyes they have some of the best. Never had a bad experience here. I have had steaks all over the U.S. and this is in my top two. The other being Perini Ranch House which is close to Abilene. Great menu and great steaks.
(4)Doug K.
Heading home from Tucson (and skipping Tucumcari) I've been kicked by the wind and robbed by the sleet (and thank you Lowell George). It's late. Oil boomers got every room from Odessa to Big Spring. I'm tired. Push on to Abilene. Ask the local motel for a local steakhouse. End up at Lytle's. I'm hungry, hungry enough to miss the gnats, flies and religiosity that soured other reviewers. Order their signature Abilenian rib-eye. It comes marbled as a road map, thick enough to sleep on and warm pink-centered like a . . well, enough metaphors. It was the single best piece of cow I have eaten for years.
(4)Ann K.
We entered the restaurant and immediately saw a sign that offered a 10% discount if you had a church bulletin. WHAT????? The menu prices were sky high and I have to go to church to pay a little less? I thought religious discrimination went out the door a couple hundred years ago. I went to the washroom and thought maybe I had to go in a Whites Only bathroom. No senior discount - just a discount if you go to one of their local churches. Baaaaaaaaahhhhhhh! Will not go back to this place unless I grow a halo above my head.
(1)Krystal H.
During a road trip we decided to stop here and I was blown away. Everything was delicious and made me fall in love with Texas. The steak was to die for, homemade bread was delicious and sweet tea was perfect. This place is a must if you're in the area. The service wasn't amazing but they were nice enough.
(5)Ananda Z.
Yum and fun and totally unpretentious. Forget you Chili's--I've finally found a local restaurant that sticks! GREAT food & sides, awesome Texas decor--I mean--why avoid the stereotype when you can embrace it? And butcher-block paper for the tables. And we didn't feel out of place with kids. And the servers were super-awesome-nice. I think I'll go there again tonight.
(5)Chris L.
Great food in a small town. I got 3 meat combo - ribs were great. potato salad was creamy. beer was cold. the place was pretty quiet, but it was halloween night, so who knows. i hope to not have to go back to abilene anytime real soon, but i will come to this place if i do.
(5)Larissa C.
Solid three stars, and my three favorite things about this place (in order of preference): Jalapeno Poppers.... Margarita/Sangria swirls.... Cowboy hats End transmission.
(3)Brittany S.
Always good. Steaks are seasoned and cooked to perfection. Great bread/butter, jalapeno poppers wrapped in bacon, and I always get a sweet potato as a side with my steak or fish. Wish we had a place like this in Dallas! Nice getting a great steak without spending a fortune.
(5)Austin A.
Some people really love the food in Abilene. I assume most of these people haven't been y'know, out of Texas. However, I've heard a lot of good things about this place, and it was actually amazing. I'll skip the cowboy "theme" personally (I don't belong in Texas, I know) but the food was great. Perfectly cooked, seasoned perfectly, quickly placed in my mouth and devoured. Life was goodness. I can't say it's the best traditional steakhouse I've ever eaten at, but I can't say it wasn't, which is certainly something.
(5)Ikam L.
Love it! Now, I cannot eat any other steak restaurants... Too bad that I live far away now. :(
(5)Jesse Lynn D.
If this is the best place to eat in Abilene...I'm sad, but then again; Abilene makes me a little depressed anyways...no offense. I have to give this joint a little credit - good atmosphere, cold Shiner, the Filet was cooked just right, and I enjoyed the lone olive in my salad...plus, the waitstaff seemed quite friendly with their cute cowboy hats! Easy access from the East.
(3)Chris M.
Had the Abilenian prime rib and it was huge and delicious. The marbling was excellent. I ordered medium rare and it came out medium rare which is an accomplishment since the steak was so thick
(5)Shawn M.
Pretty much a disappointment. I've had a better steak at Logans. The prices here are ridiculous all the way around. Doubt I'll be back.
(2)Kym M.
Always a favorite. Great wait staff, excellent food. Worth every dime. I like perinis but I'll take Lytle over them Anytime. Delicious. I usually get the ribeye, but this last time I tried the schnitzel! Delicious delicious delicious!!!and always, try the jalapeño poppers! My favorite appetizer.
(5)Sandy N.
Ordered Sharon's ribeye - medium well. They had it well done. The sweet potato fries were not crispy and soggy. The service was friendly and attentive.
(2)Damacio U.
Oh my! If you like a real steak, a ribeye steak, eat here. The baked potato was amazing but the steak was delicious. With a cold beer a definite top choice here in Abilene. Wish I could try their peach cobbler but I'm stuffed.
(5)Juli T.
The place was freezing cold! We waited over 45 minutes for our order another 15 to pay the bill plastic cups poor plating I will not come here again. I should gave taken the warning
(2)Lauri B.
I eat at Lytle very often and I can say it is very hit and miss. Sometimes the steak is great and sometimes it is thick and tough. (Sharon's Ribeye). Most of the time the service is great. I do believe the quality of the steak has declined over the years. Definitely need to revamp their menu.
(3)Jason D.
Ok, time to review a local legend. It's very country inside. All wood inside, maybe to resemble a barn. It dark inside and the sign said "seat yourself" so we went to the bar area. It's about 5 degrees warmer than I would like. Overhead a waitress saying that she was sweating.. And she never sweats.. LOL Every order comes with free bread! Woohoo! Looks like it's made here. I ordered the "Abileneian" a ribeye "33.00" a cowboy stew and jalapeño poppers. My wife ordered the pork chop. The jalapeño poppers were off the chain! Get these asap! Each jalapeño is cut into small bites and individually wrapped in bacon. Legit, better than my wife makes at home. She is soooo jealous right now. Making excuses about how she can't make them this way. The stew portion was super small. It was potato in a sausage broth. Skip this one. It was was 3.00 It's ok but the portion is really small. The mashed potato is very bland according to my wife. The pork chop was pretty good. Thin and not very filling but it had a smokey flavor of the pit or oven that they use. The steak was good also. Not the best steak I've ever had but it was a nice cut of meat, cooked to a perfect medium. Not much fat on it, it was bland also, as far as seasoning so ask for horseradish and add lots of salt. Over all I would rate this 4 stars. Losing a star for the inside temperature and bland potatoes also the portion of the stew is not worth the cost. The meat is on point but the pork chop was really thin. Go here and order the jalepeno poppers! The wait staff was nice also, nothing really out of the ordinary but not neglectful.
(4)Troy D.
Disappointed overall. The food was okay, not great. Kids burgers were overcooked. Bacon-wrapped shrimp for my daughter was okay. Thought $29 for a 10 oz ribeye, potato and salad was a little high, especially for a "cafe" style atmosphere (butcher paper on table tops). Server was okay, but drinks always seemed low at our table. We ate there a few years ago and remember it being a nicer place. Don't know if it's gone down some over time or if my recollection was off. No reason to go back - other places have similar or better food and are less expensive. Ate a Texas Roadhouse a few weeks ago and would definitely rate that above LL&CC.
(2)Sarah R.
This is a prefect place to stop while passing through Abilene, staff was great, food was amazing as well as fair prices, and comfortable western atmosphere. The hours are better than most the steak houses in the area, we tried going to several others but were not open between lunch and dinner hours.
(5)Jared S.
A must if you are looking for a great steak, always get the Abilenian. The jalapeño poppers are great too. And Monday is &2 margarita night, which isn't bad either.
(5)S C.
You almost have to take out a loan to eat here. My husband and I ordered a couple of appetizers and drinks and a burger to go and our bill was over 50.00!!!! Hate the atmosphere too. I am NOT a country person, but it's cool for those that groove on country music, dead animal heads screwed to the walls and straw cowboy hats as far as the eye can see. Now I must say that the reason I gave 3 stars instead of 1 was because the jalapeno poppers were off the scale good! They are cut into little bite sizes and skewered with a tooth pick. AND they wrap them in bacon!!!! OMG! However, for the price, I should have gotten full and needed a to go box to put the other 70 in. (That was wishful thinking and exaggeration, of course......I think we only got like 10 of them.)
(3)Jeff G.
Had a large group (15+) eating there tonight. Both food and service was excellent. Had several say it was one of the best steaks they had ever had. They did Abilene proud tonight and showed what true Texas cooking is all about.
(5)Heather B.
Had to come and review again...my previous review was 5 stars. Sadly, I can't even give near that now. First, the menu has changed and among the items gone were my "cowboy" potatoes. My steak was cooked perfectly, but bland. We had cobbler, and it was soggy and not very good (like it had been covered in plastic and microwaved for us). It was also $10! The salad is lackluster. No cheese or eggs on it. The waiter said the ranch was homemade, but I don't think it was. Wasn't special and was thin. Our service was acceptable and our server(s) very friendly. The bread had a soggy texture like it was being kept in a steamer or something to keep it warm. It was not freshly baked. Not sure if we'll come back when Perini ranch and Copper Creek are so close.
(3)Larry S.
My husband and I bought a coupon book called Texas Value Cards wherein was a coupon for this establishment saying good for one burger or one grilled chicken plate free. We went in and my husband ordered the burger and I ordered a more expensive item..a chicken fried steak. Because it said we had to order 2 drinks with our meal we also ordered 2-16oz. Draft beers. The waitress then came back and told us we had to order the same thing in order to get a free burger so I ordered the second burger even though they would have made more money with me getting the chicken fried steak. They waited until we finished our meal and then told us we had to order two drinks in order to get the free burger and beers didn't count. No where was anything written that it had to be the same order (usually pay the higher priced item) and no where did it say excludes alcohol. We should have been informed of this from the beginning. They did everything they could to get out of a free burger. Then they brought us back the coupon after my husband said "Just bill us for everything" and the coupon had been photocopied with some excuse about ripping the coupon". My point should we go back later with a photocopy coupon like really are they going to honor it? Don't think so. This business obviously wanted participation from patrons in their joint and then made the customer jump through hoops and beg for a free burger.

We really expected a better food experience here because of the name and reputation we have heard so much about. We are not at all hard to please but when we go to a restaurant that charges this much for entrees we do expect to get what we paid for. The best part of our meal was the waiter who was brand spanking new but ever so considerate and determined to give quality service. Our meal started out with a loaf of half cooked bread, cooked on top and raw on the bottom. Salad was decent but dressing was not. Grilled chicken was disappointing, not very sightly and lacking flavor. My husband's burger was good, nothing extraordinary. I would not recommend thius restaurant to friend or family, disappointing and not worth the price. I will stop here although I really want to comment on the state of the restroom.
(2)John L.
I came in expecting a very high end steak house meal. It was a busy Monday night. No tables without a wait so as a single I sat at the bar. In ordered a pint beer, nothing special so I opted for shiner. I also ordered a half dozen oysters, a salad and the 16oz ribeye with red beans. The beer of course was nice and cold. The oysters came out after a few minutes and were in little plastic cups. They were not fresh and most were chewy, I should know better. The salad was average nothing special normal greens tomato etc. The steak was ordered medium rare and I chose red beans as the side. The beans were perfect! Spot on a little hint of black pepper and salt but other than that very simple and not over cooked or over powered. Now to the steak. For a restaurant that is known for steak and cattle I expected much more than received. The steak was cooked more pink medium well, it was bland and lacked flavor. It was not a tender cut of ribeye and for a ribeye steak tasted very lean. My guess is they have opted for low quality steaks to offset cost which was ver disappointing after all the reviews i read here. I am sure they have a great chicken fried steak but be cautious when ordering beef from here. Service was fine but food quality was very disappointing for the price.

I have gone to Lytle for years. I can order without even using the menu and in the past it's been nothing shy of great. Until last night. I will give this review 2 stars instead of 1 because the waitresses were outstanding to a party of 40. We all gathered for a 60th wedding anniversary. However, the food quality has dramatically dropped. I was appalled at the condition of a Sharon's Ribeye ($30) that I ordered with how much gristle and fat was on the piece of meat. It's hard to say if they cooked my steak right to the medium rare that I asked for because all I cut in to was fat and no meat. I understand sometimes cuts come that way but for the cook to proceed with serving it makes me worry this restaurant isn't as concerned about their quality like they used to be. To summarize: -Serving sizes across table were half the size they used to be. -Ribeye cuts should be marbled but not 50%+ fatty. -Baked potato was cold -Wife had the grilled chicken and it was dry and unseasoned. I genuinely hope this was just a bad experience and I will state that I will be back. Hopefully I get what I pay for next time.

By far the best rib eye. Thick and tastes heavenly. Fresh salad and sides. Nice atmosphere. Can't wait to go back.

My buddy, whose boys went to ACU, recommend this place, especially the Long Island Iced Tea! I should have followed his advice more closely. The prices on the steaks drove me down menu to the Half and Half. Mesquite grilled chicken and "one of our end cuts from our hand cut steaks". I asked the waitress what cut of steak it was from and she replied "sirloin". I noticed that the menu didn't offer a sirloin steak so I asked her about that and she said it was on the lunch menu but they didn't offer it after 6pm. What they served me turned out to be a small ribeye that was under cooked (I ordered it medium rare and it was bloody rare) and a very small chicken breast that was over cooked. Both were quite flavorless. They claim they grill over mesquite. I detected NO mesquite flavor whatsoever. I had to dip the chicken in the ranch dressing of my salad and heavily cover my steak in black pepper. I ordered fried okra as one of my sides and asked for it to be cooked extra crispy. At least they got that right. Oh did I mention that the lettuce in my side salad was brown? Damn, I should have had that Long Island Iced Tea!

Perfect dinner!!!' There were 4 of us tonight for our first time at Lytle's. We all had steak and everyone stated that their's was juicy and mouthwateringly good. Our server Shannon was awesome! We are visiting from Fort Worth and our first foodie experience in Abilene was superb! Excellent job to the entire staff!

First off, the service was not great but polite and overall ok. The bread was great and so was our appetizer that my wife and I split. We ordered the "Abilenian" and Filet Mignon, her filet was ordered medium, served done almost overcooked and my steak was ordered medium-rare..it came medium, almost done. After being overcharged by more than 40$ (which we noticed), we still were in good spirits. But when the bathroom backed up in the stall next to my wife and flooded her clothes with waste matter, we had had it. Eventually before leaving, the manager on duty came over told us that the plumbing problems would be fixed (WOW...that made us feel so special - please note the sarcasm) and half-heartedly offered to pay for her cleaners - knowing that we're from out of town and would probably not take him up on his offer...anyhow, don't you get it???? YOU RUINED OUR ONLY EVENING IN ABILENE!! We drove home with her clothes smelling like waste instead of seeing a bit more of Abilene.. and all you could or would do is offer her to pick up her cleaning bill...

Stopped by for lunch and was completely blown away. The food and the service were excellent. I had the steak and chicken, both were tender & juicy, full of flavor. The loaded sweet potato is so much better than anywhere else, as it is cooked through and girl tender. If your looking for the best steak in Abilene, stop here and you will not be disappointed!

"the Sharon" is great. They don't take reservations but fortunately our group of 9 didn't have to wait more than 10 minutes on a Tuesday night. While the green beer for st pattys day was a neat addition all the service and food were well worth it.

When you're in Abilene and looking for a good meal, give this place a try. Always packed after games, but is well worth the wait. Wait staff is always super friendly and rarely messes up an order (don't mess with my steak). Give their filet a try along with their house salad/ranch. Mmm...good!

Funnily enough, I've only had their chicken. I've been here twice and both times it was for a function. I keep meaning to go but for some reason there is always a...um...reason to not. However, the chicken is super good!

This used to be one of our favorite places. In the past, everything was great. BUT, the last 2 times have been extremely disappointing. The service was great but the food was really bad. Burned chicken on a chicken kabob, tasteless Portabello burger, and a really bad chicken fried steak. It is sad to see what has happened to what used to be a GREAT place. Let us hope that they can get back to their former glory.

First night in Texas so my boyfriend's brother and sister in law took us here. I'm born and raised in San Diego so the feel of the restaurant is completely different from what I'm used to. I got the "ends and pieces" with a loaded baked potato and green beans. My steak came out BURNT. Literally black. My boyfriend complained and they brought out a new one, which was medium rare. Too pink for me but I tried a piece and it was good. I tried my boyfriend's chicken tenders with gravy and that was tasty. A little saltier than I would have liked but it's okay. Overall, it's a decent steak place. Being from San Diego, Ruth's Chris is still my favorite steak place of all time.

My server Alexa was great. Fantastic personality and good attention to the table. Had nice and hot bread that was delivered right after our order. Salad was pedestrian, boring, and the lettuce was turning brown. Wife had medallions for $17 and I had the Abilene Ribeye for $30. My baked potato was a little cold in the middle but okay. Steak was a large ribeye and seasoned well. It was a decent steak, but not the best I've had. It did taste good. Wife loved loved loved her medallions. That's why I'm giving 4 stars instead of 3. I tried them and thought they were way over seasoned, but she liked them that way. For me, I like to taste some steak, with these I couldn't taste anything except seasoning. So there you go. Overall, a simple place that I think is overpriced a little. Lots of fat on my steak, but it was a ribeye after all. Should have been a $20 steak not $30. Not bad, but I probably wouldn't return.

IWhjle in town visiting my family we stumbled across this restaurant and from the reviews thought we would give it a try. The menu is extensive, from steaks to Mexican food. The steaks seem to be the specialty but we were there for lunch and didn't quite want anything that heavy. I chose the beef tips and mashed potatoes and my friend had the grilled chicken. First of all the bread served was sweet and warm with whipped butter. Very nice. We both ordered salads, they arrived crisp with all the trimmings, except cheese....but they did have black olives! Loved it. My beef tips were good, seasoned well and the mashed potatoes were flavorful. The star of my plate though was the green beans. I could have made a meal of them. Full of bacon, seasoned to perfection and just cooked right. My friend said his chicken was "ok" although he raved about the seasoning. He said if it's what they use on the steaks he can imagine how good they must be. He also had the okra.....not impressed with standard frozen out of the bag fare. I'd give these a pass. He ordered au gratin potatoes....but got mashed....and it was nothing to be impressed with. Our biggest complaint was our waitress. Don't get Telithas section if you can help it. We waited, and waited......and waited for tea that never came....until another waitress took pity on us and refilled us. Again at the end of the meal we WAITED AND WAITED AND WAITED.....for her to take our card to check out.....finally I took the card to the other waitress and she checked us out before TELITHA ever came back. Would we go back? Maybe....but I would DEFINITELY get a different waitress.

Good place with a varied menu. We were seated promptly and the staff were very friendly. The chips and queso were great! Grilled Tilapia with Rice Pilaf was perfectly prepared. Portions are too big, but this is Texas!

Idk what it is but every time I go here the experience and food get worse. We went here for drinks the other night and the sangria I ordered sucked! She made it using box wine and brandy then she stuck 1/4 of a lemon in the glass. If I want box wine I will go to Jose's house. We ordered queso and it tasted terrible. The chips were soaked in oil also. I want to be a fan because Lytle use to be good but it is really bad. I hate to bring up the gnats but every time we eat in the dining area (as opposed to the bar area) there are gnats and flies and that is disgusting. I'll go once more because I want it to be good but if it sucks its going on the list with olive garden.

It was super busy but they set up a table in the back for me and my wife so we only had to wait 5 minutes. The cactus kiss was delicious (basically a piña colada). I ordered the Sharon medium rare and it came out perfect a really good cut too. Even though they were packed our waitress spent a fair amount of time with us. Go to Lytle. Do it. Put bacon on it.

We were in Abilene for a football playoff game and was told this was the place to eat steak in town. Wow! This was one of the best dining experiences I've had, from the wait staff to the food. Ribeye and salad was GREAT! Will for sure be back!!!

NOT the go to steak place in Abilene by a long shot. Beehive and Perini's are far superior without the plastic fake feel. I will say that service here has always been friendly. But the food ain't worth the drive, folks.

My companion and I, on an epic road trip, decided to get a true Texas steak before leaving the state. The ribeye here did not disappoint -- simple, char rare left my mouth feeling like I was eating buttered sashimi steak. If you want a true roadhouse vibe with superbly friendly staff serving you beer in a massively heavy chalice, do not miss this place. Thank you Abeline, and thank you Sharon for having such a delightful restaurant. If I had a cowboy hat, I'd tip it.

This is where I eat steaks in Abilene. They also have great chicken fried steak and you should always get a sweet potato as a side. This is one of my regular eating places.
