Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

This place is a hidden gold mine! The food at El Rey Azteca is to die for. I never thought my husband and I would find such authentic delicious flavors way out of California, Los Angeles, but we found this place. It was pure luck that we ended up eating there because we drove from Florida to Minnesota, and we got a hotel right in front of this Mexican Restaurant. Anyways, the waiters and waitress are all very nice and very attentive. We got fresh chips and salsa, huge drinks, and the dinner portions were more than we can hangle. The prices are very inexpensive, and the food was to lick your fingers. My favorite was the Bistec a la Tampiqueña, and it had a side of beans with cheese, orange rice, and some delicious fresh guacamole! My husband had the enchiladas rancheras, and all I can say is that I wish I could have split my dinner with my husband so we can both eat from each other's plates, but he didn't want to share all of his dinner with me. He only gave me a couple of bites so I can try his dinner. But I am grateful he gave me a taste of it! tee-hee! We went back 5 days later when we were driving back to Florida, and this time we made it for lunch, and I ordered the Carne Asada nachos. Only if they used the original chips that they give as appetizers, I would have loved it more. They did the chips too fancy, and they were made from flour totillas, and I like corn tortilla chips way better. That is my only criticism. Stick to original corn tortillas. Nothing wrong with giving them same chips as appetizers as it is to give them with the nachos. They have way better flavor. :)

Spontaneously stopped here on a trip from Atlanta to IL and so glad we did. Good salsa and service ... Definitely better than whatever other fast food options we likely would have defaulted to!

Just traveling through TN and had to stop to get my mexican fix and I'm glad I did. Great salsa and queso! I had the fajita quesadilla can't go wrong with that.

Just went there for the first time and I have to say it was just great. Having come from LA, where the Mexican food is always amazing, it was a terrific find!!!

Solid 4 star restaurant because of their food, their portions (quite large), and the care and effort they put into their restaurant. If you look closely, it really is quite impressive. I had the sincronazada based on one yelpers photo, and it was really good. It was kinda like getting two quesadillas for the price of one. Very filling and definitely will be back.

I attempted to give El Reys another try. This was before Security is scheduled to report (before 5 PM). Needless to say, they were very stoic and unfriendly. I only ordered a drink and it took them a while to wait our table and there was only one other table with customers. I will never return to this place, they will not get another dime from me.

Very inexpensive Mexican food, tried the Fajitas Locas, shrimp, chicken, beef and chorizo experience, very tasty, Service was slow, food was good.

One thing only - Mango Margarita - awesome. The food is the usual slop disguised as food that people like because the alternative to eat locally is all fast food. Surly service. If you are passing by on a road trip then drink only.

My favorite Mexican joint in all of Nashville! Happy Hour is a 6 hour affair ($2.50 margaritas) and the food is great! I highly recommend the fajita quesadilla, but the chimichangas get the job done as well as.

One word describes this place perfectly: TERRIBLE! Service was god awful, chips were extremely stale, you had to pretty much tackle the waiter to get a refill on your drink or chips, he was maybe the most unfriendly person I have ever met. The hot food we ordered wasn't hot. It wasn't even right. We ordered bean dip as an appetizer and we didn't get it until he brought our food. $30 down the drain to say the least. Can't believe this place is even open!

My extended family stopped in for dinner here on December 9th. We had not seen each other for a while. We live in Nashville and Clarksville so this was a good middle point. The food was barely acceptable. Kind of boring. But the big surprise was that everyone at that table came down with the flu the following Tuesday. Really? Working sick is stupid, not heroic people! You prepare food!

I know that there are tons of great Mexican joints in the Nashville area, but this place is close to much of what I come to town for (gigs and a place to crash.) It smells a little funny (so does every Chili's - the very same smell, in fact) and the service is usually either surly or indifferent, but the food and drinks are great. (Today's waiter reminded me of a Mexican Igor.) Chips come out hot and the salsa is chunky, flavorful and freshly made. Nice atmosphere, happy hour pricing (2 - 9 pm? That's a happy day!) and decent prices make this a no-brainer - as long as you don't mind the staff. Peculiar folk (as I'm sure they feel the same about me.) I had the Pollo Acapulco (a grilled chicken breast topped with chorizo and cheese sauce. Served with rice, beans and guacamole salad.). Seriously good and they didn't even charge me for the extra cilantro. Needless to say, I'll be back. Maybe next time, I'll get a server who has a bit of joy in their hearts.

Excellent Too much food I can't eat hot pepper but this extra mild salsa is best I ever had. Most places bring plain tomato sause

Great service and hot food. I ordered chicken enchiladas and sopapillas for dessert. I'd come here again after church.

Good food at a good price. Great happy hour drinks that last until 9pm. All of staff were super friendly.

Very good food, found on yelp, passing thru Nashville wanting lunch just outside of city. Would recommend again. Good location rt off hwy, 1/2 hr sit down lunch. Salsa, chips, guac, tacos, chimichanga all delish

Really good Mexican food for really good prices. Margaritas are nice and 'skrong'. Only complaint is the guacamole is not homemade...

When you're hot & tired, and it's right next door (walking distance) to your hotel, then this is the place to be! Happy "Hour" is from 3-9pm, and the drink specials proved it. Bud/Miller Light - $1.25, margaritas - $2.75, Dos XX - $1.45/pitcher - $4.99. Holy happy hour! The salsa was really good, with real onion and fresh cilantro, and the guacamole wasn't completely mashed ... but it had hints of bacon flavor! The chips were warm and served right away. Great for munching on while waiting for your drinks. The food was average and kinda salty, but the portions were decent. I had the #11 special (normally $7.75 but on Tuesdays, they're all $5.75): a burrito, a taco and an enchilada. The beef wasn't greasy but sort of salty, and the red sauce reminded me of Spaghettios. The taco wasn't smothered in lettuce and cheese and was quite refreshing. I also got a plain quesadilla, which was buttery goodness. I'd do that one again! Hubby got the steak en salsa verde, and said that the salsa verde wasn't very spicy at all and the steak was pretty well torched. But after 2 big ol' margaritas, we didn't care. The decor was homey, and the place was clean. The service was great, and we walked out of there with a $37 bill. Not bad for 4 margaritas and food.

considerering that most mexican places seem to love microwaves. this place was a refreshing change and they actually put tequilla in the margaritas to taste. the food was definately better than average and i shall be back.

Great place to eat if you are trying to avoid the busy Nashville traffic and you are headed west on 24. I had the most yummy grilled chicken burrito. The El Rey. Drinks are served in a towering cup so you don't have to worry about refills. I will be back!!

Loved the food. I had Chile Colorado that about melted my fillings. My wife had Pollo Azteca , sort of like chicken fajitas covered with queso. Service was fast and friendly. I'm not a foodie who can vouch for how authentic any Mexican food is but I know what I like and I liked El Ray Azteca!

I live near this restaurant and have been here a good number of times in the past 8 months. At first blush, it may seem to be just another Mexican joint, but it is consistently great food, consistently clean, consistently fast. It's very affordable. We make salsa runs here to bring home their best to our table. I've never been disappointed.

We really have developed an affinity for this place. We love the food and the prices! Yummy.....
