My wife and came here this past June. Nothing short of expectations across the board. Period. Above and beyond experiences, everything from fly fishing Hesse Creek, the spa and dining. Service and staff was exceptional in every aspect. Really, too many superlatives and positive details to be written here. Highly recommend. My wife and I plan on making a autumn visit next time around.

Blackberry Farm was such a pleasant surprise for my birthday weekend. Such incredible service and delicious food. We arrived on a Friday afternoon and stayed until Sunday morning. I wish I could write about everything I ate here, but part of me feels like most of their dishes are hardly ever repeated since it's all farm to table fare. I don't think other Yelpers will be able to order or eat the same things I had on my weekend here. My boyfriend and I ate dinner at The Barn each night and we did partake in breakfast, lunch and brunch at the main house. Service and everything really did feel luxurious that this almost felt like a once-in-a-lifetime experience. When dining at The Barn, there's a choice of going with their 5-6 course tasting menus or with their regular 3-course menus. After perusing the menus, we decided we liked the 3-course menus best since it would allow us to try more different items offered at Blackberry Farm. Their pates are never disappointing. In fact, I'd say those were some of the best appetizers we had. I don't think we were too impressed with their handmade pastas, but everything else is good. Off the top of my head, I think about a trout salad we had, or the milk chocolate panna cotta, or even their version of Peking Duck which is a deconstructed version of the famed Chinese dish. Dare I talk about a particular mushroom spread they had their for bread? There was a grainy mushroom spread that was delicious and creamy on their speck rolls. When we asked the waiter if it was available for purchase, he said we could get it in the gift shop. We're a little sad we couldn't find the exact spread. The room we stayed in was very comfortable. The bed was firm, high-cotton thread count sheets were comfortable, and the room was warm and insulated noise well that we hardly heard other guests. Our bathroom was spacious and we fell in love with the heated tile floors - it's perfect in the winter months. If I had to complain, it would be the occasional ladybug. Or the tiniest amount of dust or cobwebs here and there. Otherwise, I'm impressed with how efficiently everything is run at the farm down to their impeccable service. I wish I could have done some of the activities available, but they were a bit too expensive in my opinion. The one thing my boyfriend and I were able to do was golf-cart around the farm to see the different parts from the farm animals, vegetable garden, to the Yallarhammer Pavillion. I would love to come back to enjoy more of the food or perhaps do more hiking when there's less rain in the winter. I can't think of any better time to indulge in such a place with a loved one (or even a luxurious group trip) than going to Blackberry Farm. This was truly a treat and I felt absolutely pampered which I thought was not possible in such a rural setting.

*Can we have more stars, Yelp? Please? A hidden gem in my backyard. *The food here is in a category of its own. *It's incomparable to anything I've ever had, in Knoxville or the rest of this Country. *It's likely on par with some 7-star resort in Dubai or Fiji that I've never even heard about. *I cannot tell you how delicious the food is. *EVERYTHING is amazing. *You cannot go wrong at Blackberry Farm. (Originally Posted on April 7, 2011) I'm ashamed to admit for the 1+ year I've been living in East TN, I thought this place was a farm that grows blackberries. It's amazing to me, still, how many people (locals and tourists alike) don't know about this incredible piece of heaven that abuts the Great Smoky Mountains. Even if people do know about it, ask any Knoxville local and I almost guarantee they've never been here! This is the definition of real hidden gem. And it's only 30 minutes outside Knoxville! It's hard to explain Blackberry Farm in words but let me try... 9000+ acres of land (4200+ 5000 additional acres) that includes a breathtaking array of flowers, trees, homegrown vegetables, fruits, herbs, farms, cozy & elegant hideaway cottages, restaurants with first class food, lounging areas, activities like horseback riding, shooting, fly fishing plus more...and just pure magnificent scenery. This just does it no justice...You. Must. Go. Tip: Locals, I am talking to you especially- There's no need to get on a plane to get away. BB Farm makes a great retreat and it's right in our backyard. Even if you cannot spend a weekend, go eat at The Barn, where dynamite Chef Joseph Lenn creates his own specialty versions of Southern cuisine. Tip: Go in the Fall when the weather is perfect and the tree leaves are a multitude of colors. There is no place in this country as gorgeous as East TN in the Autumn. Tip: Ride around the 9000+ acre property in golf carts and horseback into the Smokies. Note: A place so special cannot be cheap. Expect to pay a pretty dollar for your BB Farm experience. I promise you it's worth it!

I stayed here for one night with my wife. The service and accommodations are absolutely 5 star from start to finish. Everything was incredibly well thought out. The staff takes care of you at every part of your stay. No request was to large. Dinner at the Barn was fantastic, though heavily interrupted by power outages and power surges, but the staff immediatly lit candles and handed out small flashlights. The kitchen staff just dawned headlamps and continued cooking (this must happen often). The grounds are stunning. There was a light snow just before we arrived making the entire area seem like it came right out of a story book. There was a lit fireplace around every corner making it very cozy. We stayed in a room, not a cottage, but it was still absolutely wonderful. The bathrooms had heated floors and the bed was very comfortable. Sadly there was a power outage again in the morning while I was in the shower causing the water pressure to drop to a trickle. It didn't last too long, but it was enough to leave me shivering and covered in suds. At check out they immediately removed the service charge after we mentioned how the power outages interrupted much of our stay, but we felt bad about this because the service was excellent it was the facilities that had issues. We hope that the staff is paid an above average wage and not dependent on those service charges because they truly deserved it. I wish they would have maybe just reduced the room rate instead of the service charge. Overall this place is excellent. We would recommend it to anyone traveling through this area. It's the type of place the Romneys probably spend their vacations fox hunting and fly fishing in 5 star surroundings.

I took my parents for their 70th birthdays, hoping for an extraordinary meal. The trappings were lovely, including the Lexus that took us to dinner from reception. It seems like more time was spent on the plates and decor than the food. Slate and bark/moss were interesting as plates, but I paid a huge sum for a fantastic dining experience and didn't receive it. Unique serving dishes don't compensate for food quality. I hoped it would equal the quality of much more humble European dining experiences, but was disappointed, especially with the high cost. If you care more about show than the actual food, you will enjoy it. I should also note that this is my only yelp post to date and may be my last. Given the cost for dinner, I felt obligated to let others know of my experience. I noticed that some of the other posts for this location seem to be from people who seem to be making a career of lengthy yelp posts. I only post so that others may think twice about a very expensive and less than satisfying experience.

This place is definitely unique and once you've explored the property, you see what the fuss is all about. The service is outstanding, the food...ridiculously good. We stayed here for two nights and stayed in the main guest house. If you are picky about your room, then I would suggest getting a cottage. The guest rooms (ours was long violet are small and dated. Also, you can hear your neighbors a little bit- but this is the only drawback, and not one worth missing the experience for. Suggestion: get a golf cart and drive down to yallarhammer. We were here in december and had them build us a fire in the giant fireplace. We just sat and admired the beautiful landscape. Wonderful!

This is the most perfect blend of elegance and rustic charm I could ever imagine. I could go on and on about the wow factors but suffice to say you will not find a better resort experience (rooms, spa, food, amenities, service) in a more unpretentious, majestic setting. It simply does not get better than this. Smiley face and a big star

Wow - our first trip to the Farm and it lived up to its billing. It seems that they have numerous themes and events on weekends and our weekend wasn't an exception. We attended the Southern Foodways Alliance Taste of the South event in mid-January, not because we are southern food officianados but because it fit our schedule for my husband's Birthday weekend and it looked like fun. It was! They had a weekend planned that featured well known southern chefs (Steven Satterfield of Atlanta's Miller Union and Adolfo Garcia of NOLA's RioMar among others led the roster) and Southern farmers and ranchers. In addition, the featured wine persona was Ken Wright, a leading Oregon winery owner and Pinot god. As far as i am concerned, the theme of the weekend was good food and drink. They organized a series of lectures, tastings (wine!) and dinners that were wonderful. Describing the meals probably won't help the average Farm guest because this was a special event however they did feature the talents of Joseph Lenn who is the Executive Chef of the Barn (on the BB Farm property) and the dinner he prepared was amazing. He prepared the Thursday night dinner - a six course extravaganza that included our favorite dish of the weekend, a combination of pork loin and pork shoulder that left us groaning with delight. There are two places to eat at the Farm: the Barn and the Main House. My one observation would be that the Main House could use more input/intervention from Joseph as we found the food to be uninspired when we ate there for breakfast. The accommodations were wonderful and the service was stellar. We stayed in the Holly Glade Cottage Suites which are some of the older rooms but still nice. Each has a fireplace and given the January cold spell, we took advantage of it. Unfortunately, much of the wood was wet and my husband had to spend time managing the fire. But the bathroom floor was heated - much appreciated given the weather. In addition, in-room non-alcoholic beverages were free as were the few snacks that were in the room. There was also a nice selection of coffees, teas and hot chocolate for the coffee maker. One of my highlights was a tour of the Farm wine cellar. They have on of the largest wine collections with about 150,000 bottles that are housed in the cellar and at other locations around the property. Sommelier Andy Chabot was very gracious in giving us a tour of the cellar. We didn't get to take advantage of the 6,200 wine selections due to the event but will be back to indulge. There are a lot of activities that you can schedule at the Farm - fox hunting, fishing, shooting clay pigeons, horseback riding and visiting the spa. We didn't try any of these but did take advantage of the hiking trails that are adjacent to the property. The trails take you into the Smokey Mountain National Park where there are enough trails to satisfy even the long distance trekker. The setting was gorgeous. Service was efficient and always helpful. We had an opportunity to meet the proprieter Sam Beall and his wife Mary Celeste. Sam was nice but distracted. Mary Celeste is a consumate hostess and I would recommend that you seek her out if you visit. We'll be back, even with the high price tag.

It's hard for me to gave a "star" rating to Blackberry Farm, but here's my take: Accommodations & setting - 5* Service - 4* Dining - 4* Worth what paid for - 1* The place is unquestionably a lovely getaway: beautiful setting, attentive & well-trained staff, a variety of diversions, luxurious cabins. For me, though, it didn't deliver good value for the dollar. I was there on a half-price discount package that brought the cost down to something over $1000/night for meals and lodging, but that did not include any activities, room taxes, service fees, nor any alcoholic beverages. I cannot imagine paying full price -- it would seem like purely a status thing ("I must be very special, because I can afford this"). The food was good (if generally salty), but not outrageously so, and the wine was overpriced. The service (dining room and everywhere else) was very cordial and comprehensive, though not as polished as I'd find in a major city (and I got very tired of every staffer asking "Where are you from?"). I'm glad I got to experience it, but I don't think I'm in their target market...

A culinary experience! Expensive but worth it. My husband and I have a bucket list to try as many master chefs as we can in our lifetime. This did not disappoint. A wonderful spin on typical American dishes( potato salad- with bacon topped with roe and cavier paired with champagne! We did not sleep at the inn. Not sure if it's worth 1000/night. I recommend gracehill inn instead. Amazing dining experience and. A 5 star B and B for a fraction of the price.

Blackberry Farm is FANTASTIC! The setting is gorgeous and the service is truly top notch. We had incredible farm fresh meals with perfectly paired wines, borrowed the farm's convertible Lexus to go white water rafting, toured the property on horseback with a lovely guide, swam under the stars and sat by the campfire in the evenings. Many thanks to Sam Beall and staff for an unforgettable time.

We drove quite a distance to dine here and were extraordinarily disappointed given the reviews and reputation. One of the starters was smoked trout with cucumber and avocado. While the presentation was beautiful the balance of flavors was off. The overwhelming flavor was of over salted cucumber and you couldn't taste the trout, what little of it there was, at all. The 2nd course was a guinea and gnocchi which would have been good if it weren't too salty. Of our main entrees, two people had beef on a bed of chewy greens that were almost inedible they were so salty. My salmon was overcooked and dry and one of the components of the dish was, again, over salted. On the positive side, the servers were charming, the sommelier very knowledgeable and the wine pairings spot on. Unfortunately those things could not make up for the poor food. The dining room was lovely but the smell of smoke from the fireplace was very strong and gave me a bit of a sore throat.

Our family rented one of the cabins on the plantation on Thanksgiving. This place is all about the service. It is so relaxing and removed from civilization you'll never want to go home. The cabin we rented was beautiful and rustic and don't worry the everything in the mini bar is included. Don't go here on a diet because this place is a foodies dream. The food is five star and the views are phenomenal as well.

We had dinner at the Blackberry farm with friends and were very disappointed in the overall experience. We expected a lot more given the cost and Blackberry's reputation. The service was underwhelming--the waitstaff was inexperienced/unprofessional and didn't make us feel well looked after. The menu was surprisingly limited and left us with few options for pairings with their fabulous wine list. In fact, many menu items were so unappealing that we were frustrated trying to find anything we actually wanted to eat. There were only 2 main entrees that worked with the robust Cabs we wanted to try (one was a fabulous Schrader). I hated having to order chicken at a high-end restaurant, but I was even less excited about the lamb with boiled peanuts and mint pesto, which my friend had and didn't enjoy. To cap off the evening, they botched our bill, which required 4 phone calls to sort out and then they still double-billed us on our credit card. We didn't know up front that they charge a mandatory 19% tip, which usually we'd be happy to pay, but we didn't feel that the service was deserving. None of us will return to Blackberry again.

A fantastic meal. The style of dishes vary from rustic to haute. Service is wonderful. I prefer cocktails and spirits over wine and it was particularly nice to se a huge spirits library available. Yes it is Four Seasons expensive, but it is of that caliber. It really well worth swing by to have a meal here.

After a weekend away, I'm usually more than happy to get home. Not this time... This was one of the most fantastic places I've ever been, and I didn't even stay as a guest! I was at BBF this past weekend for a wedding, but just couldn't spring for the $700/night. But it didn't matter, because the staff treated us just the same. Beautiful grounds, amazing food, and fun activities. The service was incredible. We were lucky enough to have breakfast, lunch, and dinner in the main house, and then a subsequent dinner at the barn. Even casual meals like lunch and breakfast were carefully served and prepared. Dinner was nothing short of wonderful. I want to go back and never come home.

I wish I could give multiple ratings. As a not-completely-stinking-rich individual, I felt wildly out of place all weekend. But the service is unbelievable - everything is well-thought out and every one is friendly and attentive. The grounds are stunning and the rooms are lovely. The highlight, of course, is the incredible food. We couldn't pass anything up. Our favorite meal was actually a casual lunch BBQ - short ribs to shank over, heirloom tomatoes, chicken, succotash. One odd note - if you go and you fall into the not disgustingly rich salary band, plan to drink beer. Totally normally priced. But wine and liquor are outrageous, care of some weird county tax.

Blackberry farm lives up to all of the hype! The barn puts out some of the best food in country and will leave you unable to move afterwards! Chef Cassidee has stepped up to bring her own style to the farm and is settling in nicely! The rest of the grounds are beautiful and manicured perfectly. Not that it pertains to me but it seems they have really made it a point to become more family friendly. Lots of activities aimed for children are now being offered.

We have been coming here for several years now. Blackberry has had a lot of nice upgrades since we started coming. They now brew there own beer that is really outstanding. They have added a new spa that is really beautiful. The chefs continue to put out southern food with an elegant flair. The staff take care of your every wish in a professional way.

The most incredible Farm/5 star hotel. The staff are absolutely amazing! Full of great recommendations, knowledge about the property/history and eager to assist in any need imaginable. Big props to Nathaniel in the main dinning room. Eating at the Barn is a must for anyone that appreciates great service and exquisite food. Make sure you talk to Logan about Whiskey and Wine. He is full of knowledge and explains the product in real logical terms. We had the pleasure of having Savanna wait on us on two different occasions. She was amazing and went above and beyond to handle personal request with the fabulous food. Another recommendation is to have a tasting in the wine cellar. Wonderful experience I was able to share with my better half and a few friends. I hope to return and spend much more time at this wonderful farm.

Their southern hospitality lives up to the recent James Beard Award. This is a place you can truly relax. I recommend the cottages over the suites but there are advantages to staying in the main house if you are there for a short stay. We were able to go for a little canoe ride, eat in the main house as well as the barn, take a hike, have a wonderful facial, lounge by the salt water pool and meet the farmer and dog trainers. This is a special resort especially if you are into food. I highly recommend it.

What I liked (in this case LOVED): 1. Everything- I've been to a lot of hotels and restaurants that claim to be "luxury" establishments, but this embodies what I might call casual or welcome luxury in every sense of the word from the James Beard award winning Chef and wine program to Frette sheets on the bed to the supremely attentive service- this place has the WOW factor. 2. PUPPIES! As if this couldn't get better, you can visit the award winning truffle hunting dog's puppies- who can resist? What I didn't like: 1. Be prepared to shell out $200+/person (plus service fee of 20% that auto included) for EVERY activity 2. There was a snafu in the billing system when we reserved our prepaid room - while we were told we were charged, it was an unpleasant surpirse when we checked out that we owed a significant balance. The Verdict- If you can swing the cost, this is a truly special place to spend a weekend.

One of the best resort areas I've frequented. If you want golf, tennis etc this is not the place. If, on the other hand, you desire calm, quiet, and finer things - one only need look at this jewel in the Smoky Mountains. BFF- is a fly fishers paradise with guided trips, Orvis dealership on site. Their farm to store items are very good and freshly made. Undoubtedly the cuisine takes the cake. Items are seasonal from farm and prepared by master chefs. Service is impeccable in the house and the restaurant Barn. Soft ambiance, warmth and huge wine selection. Wine room is downstairs at the Barn. This is an out of the way location but a person can drive to Knoxville in less than an hour from here. But why would you with the trails, events on site and food. A readers or cross stitchers retreat for sure. We rented the guesthouse for the whole family over Christmas and our every need was addressed around the clock. This was our first visit and the family time together was great. Highly recommend.

    * a stunning backdrop of the gorgeous Smoky Mountains (nearby Great Smoky National Park). * exquisite and award-winning cuisine by James Beard Chef Joseph Lenn. * luxurious accommodations and facilities on a 4,200 acree resort. * world-class service and unmatched Southern Hospitality. All of the above perfectly describe Blackberry Farm, but for those fortunate to visit, it clearly is something very much more and more special. With accolades like being named Bon Appetit Magazine's #1 Hotel for Food Lovers in America and Travel + Leisure Magazine's #1 Resort in the Continental United States, it's hard to argue that Blackberry Farm is a hidden gem, but given the low guest count, the expansive property and the friendly service and hospitality, it's easy to understand why it still feels very much so. While critics may point to the high prices (that include the decadent meals including those cooked by James Beard Best Chef Southeast Joseph Lenn), you can't walk away without feeling as if you've left with something much more. Blackberry Farm was a trip of a lifetime and I feel lucky to have visited. It truly was a rare chance to escape, to relax, and to enjoy. ** For Californians, the lack of a direct flight to the nearest airport Knoxville is a tad inconvenient, but sometimes to escape, sacrifices must be made.

Well, I'm getting married here, so I obviously loveeee it! I'll share more details as things progress, but in the meantime... The food is amazing, very much the farm-to-table style done right. The staff is literally... Each time I talked to someone, I was pretty sure they were the nicest person I ever met, and then I'd meet the next one. So kind, and everyone was so knowledgeable and eager to help. I am so thrilled to be getting married here, and look forward to working with Blackberry more...and enjoying their beautiful property.

My husband and I went here for our 5th wedding anniversary and had a wonderful and relaxing visit. The atmosphere is so serene and calming and a world unto itself: a true get away! We stayed in a Hill Cottage with a double sided fireplace and several other amenities which we thoroughly enjoyed. We have a code word between us: Blackberry!

To those who know, in addition to being a beautiful resort full of bucolic scenery, outdoor activities, and zen-like quiet Blackberry Farm is also a dining destination - dinner in The Barn a jacket-required affair focused on locally sourced proteins and produce, antique linens, china, and silver, plus lavish service befitting the formal environs to all who stay at the resort and a limited number of persons not taking up residence on the property each night, myself the only one on a Thursday in early August when I sat down for Chef Joseph Lenn's nightly tasting menu. A lovely space with high ceilings and a personal escort to and from The Barn a pure focus on the food served at Blackberry Farm that evening would fall far short of the experience of place because although each item served was perfectly prepared and made of the highest quality ingredients none save for the impeccable Brebis dessert and a perfectly prepared piece of trout stood out from the pack as particularly 'memorable' and focusing on precision as opposed to innovation much of the food was nothing one couldn't find at a local farm-to-table restaurant, though I'm certain this was not the case when the restaurant opened so many years ago. A magical place well worth its destination status for dinner or an extended stay, go early for tea and cookies in the main house and stay late for toasted marshmallows and s'mores, and don't forget to wander the grounds absorbing the history and serenity.
