Pizza was very good. Toppings were fresh. Crust was a little lacking in my opinion - it was just fairly bland. I got the veggie pizza.

When I die I want to be buried with a salvos pizza so I can keep eating it in the afterlife. I may actually be dying sooner than I previously thought because I just ate a whole pizza by myself. And a cannoli.

My boys wanted the lunch buffet. At $7.99 a person, it's not the cheapest pizza buffet in town. Soda fountain & tea was included. My oldest can eat his weight in pizza, so I thought why not? I wasn't thrilled with the selection of pizza on the buffet, but my kids eat cheese and pepperoni only. And they were able to have plenty. They had a nice selection of other Italian foods on the buffet too. I chose to start with a small salad. Happy to discover lots of tomatoes, carrots & radicchio in it. But it was still mostly iceberg lettuce & not the good lettuce. The dressings were not labeled; I went with ranch because I could identify it. Then I chose rigatoni with sausage covered in a tomato based sauce & smothered with cheese. A side of muscles, which you don't see on buffets around here. And a knot of bread covered in pesto (?). The rigatoni was tasty, but I can make a comparable meal like it myself. The bread knot, I took one bite of & couldn't eat anymore. It was dense and stale. Then I tried their banana pudding. It was basic box mix pudding, no actual bananas were involved. My kids chose to sit at the tall table by the pizza. It was very warm in there; not sure if it was because we were close to the kitchen and hot food or because it was the first 70 degree day of the year or a combo. But I would have liked it more comfortable. I struggled with rating it 3 or 4 stars. We all left stuffed. And my kids loved it, but they would've loved the cheaper buffet nearby too. I went with 3 because of my experience. When I go out, I like food that I can't prepare as well myself.

Some coworkers of mine suggested this pizza place because it is close to my work and they said it had great pizza. Wrong. My husband and I tried it out this weekend and it was just all bad. The place looks kind of janky on the inside and it was really loud in the kitchen despite the lack of tables in the restaurant. We got garlic knots to start, which weren't too bad even though you could tell they did not make them in house. Plus like another reviewer stated, they were sitting in a bunch of oil so that was a little turn off. Then our pizza shows up. Oh boy, where do I start.. The ingredients were not fresh, mostly canned, and the ingredients didn't taste like anything. Mushrooms were basically mush and the green peppers tasted like nothing. The crust was oily and all the extra cheese that was slapped on there couldn't save this pizza. $27.00 later and we had to go get something else to eat after. Luckily there was a nice homeless man who seemed happy to get our leftovers so it didn't go to waste. We will not be back to Salvo's.

Great fresh ingredients on a light fluffy crust! What a yummy Sicilian pie hand tossed by REAL Italians! You will not be going for the atmosphere but who cares? One bite of pizza and one sip of the ice cold Italian beer and you will be transported to Italy for the rest of your day!

Salvo's is an independent mom and pop establishment. It's family run and delicious. The owners are straight from Italy and previously had a pizza shop in New York City. The lunch buffet is delicious with my favorite item... White pizza (Mmmm....). I love supporting local business and I love the people that run this place. They are awesome. My husband and I go here often to hit up their lunch buffet and get our fatso on. The lunch buffet usually has spaghetti, salad, pasta salad, several types of pizza, lasagna, and several other tasty items. Trust me, I know food and this food is good.

A warm cramped little restaurant doesn't look like much even from the exterior but boy did the food make up for it! My family visited salvos for the first time yesterday for their daily buffet. The pizza is being freshly prepared just behind the counter by the Owner which says a lot in itself. The pizzas were incredible! No thick crust or thin crust here... Just an awesome texture and taste the I haven't found in my 5 years if living in tn. All of the pasta was fantastic and for 7.99 it cant be beat in quality! We will definitely be back and it it my first recommendation for pizza and Italian food from this day forward! My wife and kids agree!

I love this place. Foods are delicious . Workers are very nice with people. Actually I didn't like Italian food but when I taste it from here I really like it. I would recommend to try . Quality is excellent , cheapest price.....

My review has two stars for two reasons only. 1. My order was delivered on time, early even. 2. It was edible. Staying in the area and my hotel recommended this place over Dominos. I've lived on the East Coast and West Coast. I've had good pizza and was quite leary of eating pizza in Tennessee. I should have listened to my gut. Garlic knots were ice cold when delivered. The container had an inch thick of oil in it. So much oil in fact that it was dripping out of the container. And did I mention they were ice cold? Flavor wouldn't have been bad if they were warm and not completely drowning in oil. Pizza. Meh. I'm fine having pizza that isn't from NY or California. However, this was undercooked, bland and just overall unappealing. After being on the road for 10 hours today, it was edible. Next time, I'll just get something out of the vending machine.

Hit or miss....when I first ate here I was pretty impressed. Since then, our Pizza shows up too soggy and greasy. It's definitely better than the pizza chain stores, but I think they need to work on crispier crusts. And like most pizza joints, the prices are too high. After you pay the delivery fee and tip, your looking at over $20 for a large pizza that looks like a medium size pizza. I went in the other day and ordered 3 slices and a drink and it came up to $12.

The Salvo's Stromboli is my favorite!! And the chicken Alfredo and shrimp Alfredo are delicious also!! Love our waitress Katie!!

I am a New Yorker from Smyrna, so I'm a bit picky about pizza. While Salvo's doesn't quite rise to the quality of NYC or New Jersey pizza, it's not far behind and far better than the Smyrna chain restaurant options like Cici's or Papa John's. The crust is fresh and all of the ingredients quality. I loved the taste, especially the sauce. The one improvement I would suggest on the pizza: crispy crust. New York pizza has a certain crispiness from the oven. The pizza crust was more chewy than crisp. Otherwise, it was just perfect. The people are nice, and it's a great option in this area.

I usually don't work past 5 in the area but on this rare occasion I did. I wanted something different than the regular fast food. I skimmed through Yelp & found that you could even order. I was debating on the cheese calzone or the Stromboli. The cheese calzone was $8.50 & each extra topping was $1.50, so I picked the Salvo's Stromboli that comes with pepperoni, ham, mushrooms, green peppers & onions for $9.75. A steal! I ordered the Stromboli & the confirmation email told me 10-35 minutes for it to be ready. That's a large time frame, so I waited 10 minutes & then called them to see how much longer. I was told 10-15 minutes so I headed over. My Stromboli was in my hands about 20 minutes after ordering on a Wednesday at 5:30pm. If you're getting any food to go, remember to grab a fork & a knife to take with you because mine didn't have one. Luckily I was about to find a plastic fork in my car & a knife at work. Also, my Stromboli had a lot of grease coming out of the pizza box, so be careful where you place it in your car. When I was waiting for the Stromboli in the store, I noticed they coated the Stromboli with a butter sauce (maybe) that probably was the reason for the wetness & grease. I ordered the small Salvo's Stromboli but I think I got a medium by mistake, maybe? If not, this thing is HUGE. I was starving & I could only eat half the thing. One review said that 3 inches on each end was nothing but bread, I didn't have that issue. Mine had cheese & toppings about 3/4 inch in. The dispersement of toppings was good. It wasn't just one topping in each bite. The mushrooms were from a can but I didn't mind. I think maybe the green peppers too because they were smaller & didn't have a huge pepper flavor which I'm good with because I'm not a huge fan of peppers. Overall my meal was worth the 10 bucks I paid for it. I got two meals out of that Stromboli. I saw where they have a lunch buffet for $7.99 that I might try sometime.

Two Words- DOUBLE CRUST. This pizza has become a staple in our house. With every meat you could think of, 2 cheeses, (And we get extra marinara for dipping) .... This pizza is easily a favorite of mine. We've only eaten in house once, and I mistakenly ordered some shrimp scampi with our pizza- This is where it only got 4 stars- Not fresh, frozen shrimp, with over cooked pasta, and a slimy buttery sauce that will go straight through you... No thank you. Stick with the pizza. Its a pizza place after all. Love the pizza here! Especially the crust. Really good, and way better than the boring chain pizza places we have here. Lastly- This is Tennessee,.. Not New York. If you want NY pizza,.. go to New York, and stop trying to compare the two.

Great pizza, I have had several and not found one I didn't love. The double crust pizza is awesome and my go too pizza. I haven't done the lunch buffet is a few months but I have always enjoy the pasta also.

The Sicilian pizza was very good. It's been years since I had such a delightful pizza experience. Unfortunately it took them over an hour to deliver & they didn't include utensils with my salad. The pizza was worth the wait & was still warm but I wish they had been sure to include everything their delivery patron needed to eat.

Got a small sausage and mushroom pizza. Just eh. The pizza had a metallic taste I suspected from the canned mushrooms. Also side salad with house dressing, it was good, and large for the price.

This isn't just my favorite Italian lunch in town; it's now my favorite lunch in town. A little piece of New York heaven in small town Tennesse. The pizza is divine. Tangy red sauce, light crunchy crust. The pastas are solid. The salad helps to mitigate my guilt. A winner, and the kind of locally owned place that you want to support. So do it!

Best place to eat in Smyrna. Try anything on the menu, it's all great! Or get the for lunch and have the buffet.

Solid take-out pizza, particularly with the square Sicilian crust which is slightly thicker with great crunch and flavor. I like this much better than the chain versions! Have not been for the buffet, but the take-out rocks! Seem to be good folks too, particularly Sal...

I think I need to point out something before my review (I don't see this review on Salvo's *yet*, but it will be soon I'm sure), evidently a lot of people from elsewhere seem to think New York Style pizza means it's good. No, New York Style pizza means it's floppy, toppings on top, cheese under or mixed with them, sauce then crust. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ne… . If you're in New York, and don't like a place, you go elsewhere and say you didn't like that place's food. If you're in Tennessee and don't like a place you claim it's not New York style and that it's not authentic or up to the standards of the area. I lived in NY - I had several pizza joints I didn't like, I never claimed they were not New York Style... they thrived without my $ Ok, with that pre-rant over, Salvo's - decent pizza, good buffet, great tasting garlic knots, problem with buffet temperature, problem with buffet placement but I don't think there's much they can do about that. Cheese pizza - kind of a sweet base to it, right amount of floppiness, could have been cooked another minute for my tastes but tasty. Cheese had multiple textures to it, I forgot what that means, but it was noticeable. Garlic knots - tasted perfect, suffered temperature loss on the buffet so they were a little over room temp when I got to them. Buffet management fail, not cooking fail. Man they were tasty. Spinach Stromboli - good.. not quite great, however I was judging by buffet. Salad options were meh, but it's a pizza joint, what they did have was tasty although I couldn't find the dressing (which might have been my fault, had not eaten for a long time and was goofy) Place was clean. I'd go back - it was definitely better than some of the Brooklyn pizza I encountered in Brooklyn. Some mind you, not all. What'd I'd like to see changed: buffet warmer needs work - garlic knots of great desire were downed by temp. Red lines for parking painted next to white - like someone messed up the parking spaces using white paint and they thought using red would be less confusing (this is probably the property owner's fault, not Salvo's) and I would like them about 12 miles closer to Nashville.

This place had 2 initial things going against it: buffet and in Smyrna of all places, but a friend gave glowing reviews and my husband being the pizza mongrel he is, we had to go give it a try! I've been to NYC and actually think the pizza is kinda crap. (heresy I know, but I enjoy West Coast style pizza!) But Salvos changed my mind on how 'NYC Style' pizza can be good - In Tennessee! Its the big floppy pieces you need to fold up to eat but its still substantial eatin' crust wise and not swimming in grease like so many other places. The Stromboli and pesto garlic knots are much too buttery, but I have to admit in shame - I loved both. The knots gave me pesto garlic dreams! They also had a bunch of pasta, carbonara, meatballs, spinach lasagna (loaded with ricotta, no skimping out here!) and mussels in red sauce. Yes, mussels on a buffet. I totally realize I was taking my life into my own hands, but they were actually really delish and I live to tell about them - food poisoning free! There were a few downsides to Salvo's. 1. the buffet placement is super awkward, you are always in someones way. 2. the meatballs were sub par IMO 3. styrofoam plates. I know disposable is easier, but maybe upgrade to plastic or just do dishes? 4. banana pudding was just banana flavored. The goodness outweighs these 4 minor setbacks. The service really was family oriented and I saw a staff member give a plate full of really tasty looking cannoli to a birthday girl (not on the buffet) I wish Salvo's was closer to my house, it would be my take out choice in a hot minute due to the great looking choices on the menu! (white pizza with ricotta & garlic? Mediterranean? pesto vegetarian?) Salvo's please come to South Nashville!

I hesitate to leave a negative review, because our family really likes to support local businesses when we can. We have ordered pizza from Salvo's a few times, and we thought it was pretty good. We ordered pizza and lasagna to-go tonight, and I was so disappointed! My husband said the pizza was pretty good, but my lasagna was awful. The bottom was burnt and stuck to the bottom of the foil container, and the sauce was sickly sweet (my husband tried a bite and agreed). It really tasted like someone just dumped way too much sugar in the sauce. The portion size of the lasagna was good, and it came with a salad (which had browning lettuce) and garlic bread, but the portion size doesn't mean much if the food is inedible. I don't know if this was just a bad night or something, but I was not impressed.

We were so excited when this placed opened. Smyrna is seriously lacking in Italian options. Unfortunately, we gave them 2 tries and both were completely disappointing. First time we tried pastas. Absolutely nothing interesting flavorwise and both were swimming in way too much sauce that tasted like a tin can. Not wanting to judge them too harshly when they had just opened, we waited a few weeks and tried pizzas. Meh, skimpy toppings and so-so crust...we both hated it. So disappointed! Still waiting on a good Italian option in Smyrna!

Being from Italian heritage and from the east coast I would expect that a pizza joint claiming to be "Brooklyn" would taste better. I went for the pizza buffet. And since I love buffets I was excited to here that there was another pizza buffet near me besides Sal's or Cicis. All in all the place wasn't bad, but I have had better. The pizza was OK, but not up to what I was expecting for a Brooklyn pizza joint. The pasta was just OK, so I just stop there. They had Carbonarra that looked pretty good. The best part of the buffet sadly was the chicken fingers.

Wow! The pizza is tasty and lured me into the restaurant. My friend had picked up a pie and it was delicious. The toppings were very fresh and the dough is the best I've had in a loooooong time. HOWEVER, I went in a couple of days later and planned to eat in. The entrance is set-up in a weird way. The counter is there and opens to the kitchen. There are also tables down the left side of the restaurant and look like I should order my food at my table, but the counter looks like I order there, too. I stood there for about 5 minutes, waiting to be told what to do and to order. Finally a guy comes to the counter and asks to help me. I ordered stromboli and asked about delivery. since I noticed that it was crossed off the front of the paper menus. They no longer deliver. After he ran my debit card, I asked if I should add my tip at that point or what? He said I should add it to the ticket, tells me to remember that he has to make my meal for me, too, and takes my order. I left a big enough tip for him and the server. He then comes from behind the counter and seats me, explaining that the waitress had just come in and will check on me in a moment. Well, I waited and no one ever came to the table, even though it seemed that 492 people were there "working." And, although she served all the other tables that had come in, she never stopped for me at all. The employees were super loud and hurrying back and forth through the dining room and were very distracting. When the stromboli came, it was humongous, but not what it seemed. At least 3 inches on each end was purely crust, so it was deceiving. It also had very little flavor. No seasoning at all. I had Italian sausage and couldn't distinguish its flavor--and it should be fairly assertive. Never had interaction with an employee the entire time I was there. Soooooooo disappointing. I want my generous tip back.

Good little pizza place that definitely beats the fast food chains. Lunch buffet is $7.00, $8 something with drink. The buffet has a pretty good selection. Each time we've gone it's included: At least 6 pizza options, including a veggie option, a plain cheese and a calzone option- Veggie pizza is awesome with generous chunky veggies. 2 hot pastas- haven't come across one I didn't like :) 2 cold pastas Salad- only three dressing choice but hey, it's a pizza place calamari 2 bread options- including some really good knots and 2 dessert options The place is pretty small and seating is a bit crowded on busy days but it's not obnoxious. Two slices of plain cheese pizza and a drink are only a $1 less than the buffet so for lunch the buffet really is the best deal. Pizza can be a bit greasy at times, but that kinda goes with being pizza. Salads always taste fresh and are pretty darn big with chunky veggies. A salad with some garlic knots makes for a decent meal. We also enjoy their full pizzas though we usually get those for take out They are also willing to handle larger groups (15+) though its a bit crowded and makes moving around more difficult. The staff is always pleasant even when we descend like a horde. Over all good place to stop in for lunch or dinner

This restaurant has a wonderful "family" atmosphere. My husband, son and I have eaten at the buffet on a few occasions, but more often than not, we get our food to go. All of the food we have gotten to go has been superb! Their double crust pizza is incredible as are their calzones. Positively delish! And each and every time I have gone in there I have always been greeted warmly. As far as it being authentic Brooklyn style pizza, I must say it DOES measure up. I am from New York and would often travel far distances to get some good eats. Plus the guys who own it ARE FROM Brooklyn. This is certainly THE BEST pizzeria in the area, hands down. Last but not least, the mention from another reviewer about the red lines in the parking lot.... They are red because those spots are designated for "Red Reality" that is located just beside Salvos. Red just wants to guarantee their clients have a place to go when Salvos get SLAMMED from the lunch rush. Same as other businesses putting up signs saving spaces for their clients.

  • Dave S.

Just OK. Seamed a little run down. The paper/Styrofoam plates where a little hokey Joe. Meat balls and spaghetti where good. The New York style pizza was doughy though. One thing that really made me decide not to come back was some old guy behind the counter kept wiping his nose and than handling the kitchen equipment.Felt that the 10.50 for the lunch buffet was a $1.00 to much.

"" They got my $45 order wrong on a delivery tonight. Got no apology from the employees, girl on phone made me feel it was my fault, not to mention she was rude when I placed the order. Hard to say it is my fault when they forgot to include a specific item I paid for. 45 minutes later driver brings it to my house and informs me they will not deliver any more to my house. That is fine with me the negative way I was treated. definitely do not recommend them due to a complete lack of customer service, what is worse we have been regular customers since they opened. Not the way to run a business and we had recommended them to so many people. I regret promoting their business and I have never complained before. Pitiful!

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
