Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Not a fan of this location. The other Oscar's ate much better. The employees here seem to hate their job, they are super slow, and the food is mediocre to good.

I believe this place replaced another similar mexican joint. The food is pretty good. Love the sauce, the crispy shells and the prices are fair. Worth a try for sure.

I have eaten here 3 times because co workers bragging about how awesome it is! Since I love Mexican food I was excited. The first night I ordered a beef burrito and the first few bites were good. After I made it half way through it became so salty I absolutely could not eat another bite and I threw the rest in the trash. The second time everyone started to order I asked if anyone had ever gotten a salty burrito and they said no. So I thought well, maybe I got a bad one. So I ordered a chicken burrito this time. Believe it or not the exact same thing happened. I ate half of the salty thing and threw the rest in the trash. I was sitting at a table full of people gorging themselves on the same food. I asked if they found it salty and they said no. The third time I ordered with coworkers I got the fish tacos. With one person going to pick up food for everyone else it takes a while for the food to arrive. So the fish tacos had a good taste, but not a good idea to order and have them sit around for a while. They are fried, so they get mushy after a while. Anyways, I really wanted to love the place like everyone else. It is just to damn salty for me.

In all honesty, I went in to Oscar's expecting mediocrity. Coworkers have been talking the place up, but most "fast food" taco places in Tennessee are a colossal let down. My hopes were raised a little when peeking behind the counter I could see two huge pots on a gas stove, one of beans and one of peppers, set to cook and not being nuked. I was concerned when a torta was listed as a "sub sandwich" but hey it's Tennessee. Their menu was varied and covered all the beloved staples of authentic Mexican food. I was tempted by the carne asada french fries (that's genius!) but wasn't really feeling fried food or heavy meats (plus I haven't checked out their meat policy so I don't know if it lives up to my lofty standards :p) They also had a very tempting selection of breakfast tacos that the sign assured me were available all day. I decided on the nachos and the hubs got the chicken quesadilla. I was a fan after the first bite of my very delicious nacho plate. This plate is huge, and is either two meals for one person or best split between two. There were lovely little pockets of guacamole and sour cream liberally dotted through out the stack, The cheese was shredded, not liquid goo. The pico de gallo was fresh and the tomatoes were firm and flavorful. The hubs meal was also well portioned. The chicken appeared to be actually strips of seared chicken breast, and they tasted like seasoned and seared chicken breast like we would make at home. Definitely not the mystery meat taste that so many fast food chains serve. Over all I was very impressed with this shop and will definitely be a reoccurring customer.

Awesome place to eat... Food is always good... Service is great... Good location....

Food is fresh and delicious. Prices are very fair and you get a good value. But the customer service and speed is very very bad. They take maybe 15 minutes to make one burrito. No smiles or greetings. The decoration in store is very lacking and barebones. This place is probably better to use as a "take out" rather than a dine-in.

the food is always hot & fresh! great customer service! love this place! could eat it everyday!

I'll keep this short and simple. The place was small and not clean. (In my eyes) The customer service was chill. The wait time was around 10 or more minutes. Not bad at all. Now the food I have mixed feelings about. The "carne asada" fries were good. The shrimp tacos definitely not good. The tortilla is what ruined the shrimp tacos. Not the shrimp or pico it self. Just the tortilla ruined the taco. If I could have put an authentic Mexican tortilla on those tacos it would have been amazing. I won't be coming back simply because I can get authentic Mexican tacos from a taco truck down in Nashville and the price would be a bit better. For an average taste of non authentic (Americanized) Mexican food then yeah this is the place to go.

This is a tiny little place in a strip mall in Smyrna, so needless to say, I didn't really have high hopes. My boyfriend and I were going to get Firehouse for dinner on Friday night, but then we saw a sign for tacos and decided that sounded better. There's about 7 or 8 tables inside where you can eat, but we decided to take it to go so I can't say anything about the dine in experience. They have a rather large selection of different tacos, burritos (even the breakfast variety, which are available all day!), tostadas, and tons of other stuff. I opted to get some chips and guacamole, and a carne asada quesadilla. My boyfriend got this combo that had a tostada and taco, and everything was fairly reasonably priced. We got a couple drinks and I think it was around $27 total, so not terrible. The guacamole was super tasty and really fresh tasting. I like mine kinda chunky but this one was pureed smooth, which was fine. Just a personal preference. The quesadilla was loaded with stuff and was super good. It had the carne asada (which was cooked to order), cheese, pico de gallo, refried beans, and guacamole. It was surprisingly good. I was pleasantly surprised by this place, and it only took about 10-15 minutes for our order to be cooked and ready to go, which isn't bad at all. Considering this place is less than a mile from my apartment, I think it's easy to say that I will be coming back here quite often and I'm pretty excited to try all the different things they have to offer. I would definitely recommend!

Love grabbing a bite here! Never left with a dull tastebud & they are fast with service. My kids love eating here!

We eat here about once a month. Friendly staff, food has always been great. Huge portions. The nachos are SO GOOD. And the prices are decent.

Surprisingly good! I ordered Pastor, Carne, and fish tacos. They brought them to the table and I was surprised by the generous size and amount of filling, I was only able to finish two. They brought this incredible salsa/sauce thing in a squeeze bottle that I highly recommend. We went on a Saturday night and it was totally vacant which kind of scared us, but our fears were unfounded. Fresh, hot tacos that aren't short on flavor and friendly service. The fish taco was definitely my favorite, I'll be ordering just those next time. :) Might actually have that for dinner tonight!

Oscars Taco Shop is tucked away in a smaller plaza past the main strip of food on Sam Ridley. When you first walk into the restaurant it seems pretty small but you feel like you're in a semi-authentic Mexican restaurant. There is a large blue menu posted up on the wall behind the cash register with combo options as well as a la carte. I ordered the Combo #2, which comes with two tacos, beans, rice and a drink. Along with the Combo I also had a large Queso Dip with chips to share with the table. The Queso was pretty good and there was actually still more left after we finished the chips, which is always a good sign! The beans were refried with some shredded cheese on top so they were what you would expect and the rice was pretty flavorful. For the Taco's I had a chicken one and a fish one. The Chicken taco was delicious and had pico de gallo along with guacamole on top of it. The fish taco was alright but seemed to have a bit too much cabbage on top and the fish itself was average. Everyone else I ate with actually got burritos and were very pleased with what they had. If you're willing to drive a little further down the road on Sam Ridley this little Taco Shop is worth the visit!

Not a twin of the Oscar's in Murfreesboro, but let's say a sibling. The food is still tasty San Diego-style Mexican food, hot, fresh, and savory. The atmosphere is a little more casual and I think this location is smaller and therefore has more of a take-out feel to it. Not to say one couldn't sit there and eat, but it's the feel of the place. Me, I sat inside and ate because I don't like waiting to get home. I try to eat in my car while I'm driving and get the small bits all over the seat, my lap and the floor. Really, just eat there, it's cool.

I think the door that leads into this restaurant is actually a cleverly disguised portal to Southern California. Pleasantly surprised to find Mexican food like this here. My California burrito and carne asada taco tasted delicious and fresh. However, I'm not sure if the best use for a portal is to bring delicious Mexican food to Tennessee. I mean, that's great, but why not use the technology for general transportation? Imagine never having to deal with air travel again. That's my only gripe. Will eat here again.

Fantastic tacos. We are from Texas and we thought they were as good as what we can get there.

Sooooo, I arrived here at 10:05, and it is now 10:16 and they still haven't opened the door!! They have looked at me numerous times standing outside the door but I am still denied entry!! Some would question why I'm still standing here, I should take my business else where right? The problem is, once I have in mind what I want to eat it is very hard to change gears after. It's now 10:19, still standing here while they continue to stare at me and deny me entrance for tasty tacos. Very upset, this is bad business and don't plan on coming back. In the mean time I'm going to see this thing through!! They won't break me!.........VICTORY 10:23 broke their will and let me in!!!

Great tex mex. Best fish & shrimp tacos I've had. Open face corn tortillas is a very nice touch. Everything is cooked fresh to order. They have the white queso that everyone has, and they're chips are great. I've never had a bad meal here.

best lil Taco Shop in the South!!!! The space the shop is in is a little odd. It used to be another place before and the furniture is left over and doesn't fit in. But hey.. All you need is a seat right?!! So get in there, order up some killer tacos, and enjoy stuffing your face!!! I love the fish tacos and the Carne quesadilla. Love the chips!!!

It doesn't matter which Oscar's you go to, it's all good! I had the fish tacos for the first time in a long time. But as always, awesome! The sides were good and they moved my order in front of a very large order to get me out of there quick! Try any Oscar's in the greater Nashville TN area. You won't be disappointed!

I haven't had tacos this good out of Mexico. Seriously. I ordered two fish tacos and chips and salsa. The fish tacos were piping hot, the fish was crispy, and the corn tortillas were perfect. I added their red salsa to one taco and the green salsa to the other one. They really couldn't have been any better. Seriously. The chips were meh, but the salsa was phenomenal. It was fresh and spicy and obviously made there on-site. Vegetarian Warning: The vegetarian burrito is not. really. vegetarian. I asked the girl behind the counter if the rice had chicken stock in it... she was unsure but said no. I asked "caldo de pollo?" She said yes. I asked about the beans... and yes, they contain lard. Both of these items are in the "vegetarian burrito." That means there's just about nothing you can eat if you're a vegetarian here.

Very good authentic mexican food. This expansion takes over the space of Cocina Mexican Grill, and is much like the one I went to in the Boro. Though both places are good, this is quite an improvement over the previous tenant. I had the pastor burrito and shrimp taco. Both were amazing. Portions are huge, the food was fresh and piping hot, and everything came out really quick. Honestly one of the best shrimp tacos I've ever had.

Authentic Taco Bell. I recommend anything with the Carne Asada.
