First, this place was great! We have 2 kids (boy-5/girl-8) and they LOVED it! We let the kids catch our lunch and they had a lot of fun casting the line out into the pond. We had a couple rounds of bait nibbled off by the fish before hauling in our meals but the guys helping with the poles put on more bait and helped the kids by telling them exactly where to cast, how to let the bait float to the floor and when to snap the line for the catch. When you get the fish cooked, you have your option between blackened, fried or a garlic butter. I had the blackened and my wife had the fried. The fried was nice, lightly battered and tasty if you're into that but the blackened was out of this world! My wife said the tartar sauce was a bit too much on the vinegar side for her tastes, but liked the fish regardless. Each fish platter ($17) came with 2 sides and hush puppies. The kids split an adult portion of the chicken fingers (3 tenders, $9) so they got 2 sides with it to share. It was more economical that way and suggested by the man taking our order. Everyone, except me had a soda ($2/each) so with the $5 fee for fishers (the 2 kids), our lunch total was about $62. While they prepared our food, our kids did gem mining on site. We opted for the $30 bucket for the kids to share and were NOT disappointed. If your kids have ever done this anywhere else, you know you usually pay a lot and get hardly anything. The gems our kids pulled out were HUGE. The one stands up easily 6-7" tall. The kids loved it! Lastly, we also opted to catch some fish to go after lunch. The kids each caught 2 more (4 fish total, 5.2 lbs for all 4). They charge $4.50/lb plus cleaning fee. You can have them either head removed/deboned for $1/fish or butterfly filleted for $2/fish). The guy at the front who rang us up I think was the owner. He actually split the cost of the cleaning with me and only charged me $1/each for the butterfly fillet. Also, We were headed to the Forbidden Caverns after lunch so they held our fish for us until after we got back from the Cavern tour (~1hr). When I went in to pick it up, they had it all packaged up on ice, ready to go! So, just 3 more things I wanted to mention. If after eating your platter, if you're still hungry (I was not) you can go back out and catch another fish and have them cook it up for $10 (doesn't include additional sides). Secondly, bring cash. This establishment is a cash only establishment, so ensure you have adequate cash before going. There is no ATM on site or anything. Lastly, make sure you tip the guys outside helping you catch the fish in addition to your waitress. I assure you after the service you will be given, they deserve it but I know it is easy to forget about it while you're walking out. Overall, this was a great experience and when we visit the smokies again, this will be #1 stop for us.

This was the last stop in the area before heading home. We were in a restaurant and they offered fresh trout as a special, we then asked the waitress the would you get fresh trout in Gatlinburg? She mentioned English mountain trout farm. Then the searching began because English mountains and Tennessee just didn't sound right. The google search came up with some info, just to let everyone know that trip advisor is probably the most accurate, yelp has some info but phone number has changed, their Internet website hasn't been working, and when you try to call, they are probably outside cleaning the fish or tending to the customer. Maybe they should get a cordless phone. My recommendation is if you have an hour to spend for either lunch/dinner and you like trout, then do it! Not only is this great for kids, but adult can have fun too. The farm is located south of hwy 441. If your coming from pigeon forge, make sure you turn right and not left as the sign has pointed out (as of Nov 2012). They are open from 11:00am to sundown and are closed during the months of January and February. There really a lot of menu offering as how they can prepare your trout. But this might be best to enjoy the freshness in the fish. No sushi offered either. The family that owns and runs it are passionate about their business, beside the fishing and dining on fresh trout, the also have a gem panning activity for the kids to pass the time as you wait for your meal. I think the difference with this place is that when weather permits, it offers a great outdoor dining experience. One other thing that we found out is that this trout farm provide fish to 9 local restaurants and they regularly delivers on Wednesday. So, if you see the restaurant with a fish special early in the week, you might want to come here to get some real fresh fish. One other note for the kids, the dogs sleeps during the day and are more active closer to the evening and at night.

A hidden gem! The nicest couple own it. I opted not to catch my trout. One of the employees went out to cooler and brought in the most beautiful butterflied fish! Bush's Baked Beans of course and Cole slaw. Hush puppies so crispy and light! I was sure I couldn't finish it but couldn't help myself! My girl friend had lemon pepper catfish that she thought was wonderful! Absolutely worth it! Oh CASH only!

My buddy and I hit up this little gem on our way out of Tennesee. This little place has a very homey charm that you only get outside a big city. When we first arrived I felt like I was going towards someone's back yard. There was a family doing a gem mining thing they have there too - which, from afar looked kinda fun. The family's kids were definitely having fun. After a quick chat with the owner, she convinced us to fish for our own trout as it'd be a little bigger than the fillets they have in stock, plus its a fresh catch. To fish and try your hand at catching something bigger than average (of 1.5 lbs) is only 5 dollars on top of your meal cost of $16.99 (i think). My buddy went first - and threw his line in...less than 10 seconds he hooked a fish and pulls it out (only he hooked it by it's tail fin) and dragged the fish out where the attendant helped out net the fish and gave it to us to hold up. I went and it took me about 4 or 5 tries before i got a fish out of the water, held it up for a photo op. They took the fish to get cleaned, filleted and cooked all within 15 minutes or so and we got the fish we caught served to us. Both of us went with the Blackened seasoning over fried or with lemon pepper, with fresh hush puppies and 2 sides, mac and cheese and baked beans. The sides were Ok - but the fish was really flavorful and cooked perfectly. The hush puppies were piping hot and delicious. I enjoyed myself thoroughly, but the only problem was that it was about 40 mintues out of where we were staying - we had to go on the day we were leaving. If i was in the area i'd definitely come back.

So worth the drive! If you have kids, this place is a must. Beautiful pond with lots of trees and horses near by. Very clean and owner and employees were great. The trout was fantastic. We had it fried, blackened, and smoked; they were all delicious. The hush puppies were moist and very flavourful. I have nothing negative to say about the experience, good all around!

Great old fashioned fun. We fished for our dinner and then it was prepared for us. Delish! Well worth the drive and cost. Such a fun time! Kids had a blast and even us higher maintenance not so outdoorsy types had a great time.

Had a great time-experience here. I was skeptical about eating a fish that I just caught especially since I am not a big fish eater. But it was expertly cooked and delicious. I chose to have it prepared fried and it was crispy, not greasy served with fries that were also fresh and hot. The hush puppies were also the best I've every had, thought I didn't like hush puppies until I tried these. This was the highlight of our 10 days in TN!

This place was a highlight of our trip! Great local people and just a lot of fun with the family. Definitely worth checking out if you're not in a hurry and want an adventure before dinner. Not much frills and very basic but a great time if you're up to the task of catching your dinner - BTW they make it easy!

This place was great. We stopped while on vacation, we were visiting the caverns down the road. The owners and staff were incredible. Welcoming, friendly, and they ran a nice operation. I took my kids there so that they could fish for trout in the pond. The staff were nice and set them up with rods and bait and off they went. They caught two very nice trout. The staff cleaned the fish for us and sent them off to the kitchen. We had fried trout and blackened trout. Both were amazing, perfectly cooked. My wife said this was the best fish she has ever had. I would agree, it is way up there. The french fries were nicely cooked, hot and crispy. The coleslaw was fresh and crisp, hushpuppies were the best I have had anywhere, and the macaroni and cheese was good too. I can't really say enough about the staff. They were happy to talk to us and explain where the fish came from, how they were delivered, how they cook the fish, etc. They set up a table for us outside (it had recently rained so the tablecloths were off the tables). The setting is great, in the country and you are surrounded by fields and mountains. I highly recommend stopping here both for the fishing, but the great food and hospitality too.

We had a great meal here! We hooked it, and they cooked it perfectly. Trout, hush puppies, burgers, cheese steaks and more. Good food for a good price. We loved the family that runs it. They are friendly and made the whole experience a real treat.

We just got back from a min-vacation in eastern TN. This restaurant was one of the highlights of the trip! We called in advance to make sure we didn't need reservations or anything, and to our surprise, the owner answered the phone and said that they'd stay open and wait for us, as this is their slower season and no one was there. When we arrived, we were greeted with a sincere welcome. My son and I fished for our dinner (which is an option, not a requirement) while my wife conversed with the owners. The meal was fantastic, and rivaled the freshest fish we'd ever eaten. The sides were plentiful and delicious. It was nice to sit back with the husband and wife owners and converse about current events, politics, area problems, etc. while enjoying a home-cooked meal. They said that usually the place is 100-strong with customers, but we were more than delighted to be the only ones dining that evening. I can see how the place could attract so many people, as it's an awesome experience for anyone of any age! I can't say enough good things about the restaurant and the owners. Good, honest, hard-working people, they are! Whenever we make it back to the area, we're going to go back there for dinner -- you can count on it!

The entire family, from grandma to grandsons, enjoyed the afternoon of fishing and good food. English Mountain is a bit off of the beaten path, but it is worth the drive. Everyone was excited to catch beautiful rainbow trout and to then have them freshly prepared to order. The food was delicious and English Mt. was by far the highlight of our trip to the Smokey Mountains. Definitely "Mom and Pop" but that is part of the charm. The price is cheap compared to any alternative fishing excursion and you're pretty much guaranteed to catch some nice fish.

We've been told about this place by several friends of us from S Florida. They all keep going back there on each occasion. This place is a little paradise. Don't expect luxury, but the perfect place to relax, fish and eat delicious food in the middle of nature. The owners are great people. They offered us to taste their smoked trout, which was delicious. They cooked the trout we caught the way we asked them to. The side dishes were also great. After lunch we just stayed around, watch the others fishing, interacting with other guests, watching the kids play in the creek. All in this wonderful picturesque setting. If I look back to our last year vacation in Tennessee, this is one of the highlights and one of the dearest memories. Thank you.

Excellent food cooked by Angie, co-owner & wife. Best Hush Puppies I've ever had -- you'll love 'em. The owner explained how the catfish they get are not the usual bottom feeders. Don't remember the exact story but the taste is great. Trout fishing was fun! Note that it is cash only.

We had such a great time today at the English mountain trout farm. When we arrived we were graciously greeted by Charlie our host. We decided to have our two daughters, nine and three go fishing. The each caught a trout within only a few minutes, about one and a half to 2 pounds each. They were absolutely thrilled. Charlie's staff did a great job netting and cleaning the fish for us. They also cooked them for us, one blackened and one fried. They were served with very delicious hush puppies and nice side dishes as well. The girls also gave gem mining a try. The creek side experience of gem mining at English mountain was much more fun than what they did in downtown Gatlinburg. Not to mention, they found about five times more stones at English Mountain. They offered a $10 bucket as well as a $30 bucket. We opted for the $30 bucket and let the girls split it. What a great decision. They found all sorts of rocks including emeralds and rubies. The bucket also included 2 very large polished Brazilian Agate, one pink and one blue that the girls absolutely loved. They felt like real treasure hunters. The girls also had a great time with chief lazybones, the mascot of English Creek trout farm. He is a bloodhound mix and so friendly with both girls. Overall the family had a wonderful experience today. This will forever be a highlight of our trip to Tennessee andi suggest anyone in the area to go up and give it a try. You won't regret it! Thanks Charlie and English mountain staff. We had a great day!

Best experience. The owner, Charlie, along w his family and staff were very friendly and helpful. The place is "rustic" but also very clean! We ate inside but there were lots of picnic tables available outside. Although not required, we made reservations because we had a large group. Seeing my son catch my trout was priceless. It costs and extra $5 for that but so worth it! The fish was prepared blackened and was the BEST EVER! Also had the cole slaw and green beans and hush puppies: all fresh and made from scratch. My kids have nut food allergies and they were prepare for our questions. They don't use any peanut oil or any nuts in any foods. Despite the rise in food allergies, most restaurants and servers aren't prepared for these type of questions. Charlie was very prepared and anticipated our concerns and needs. Also did the gem mining. We got the largest $30 bucket and all 3 of my kids shared it. So much fun! The $30 bucket is worth the money: most gems, largest gems. Even my wife joined in sifting through the dirt. The small gift shop inside offers a variety of items at very reasonable prices. Overall: highly recommended!

Stopped and got us some fresh Trout for lunch, the young man caught the fish (you can catch it yourself if you want to) and they fry, grill or bake it for you and it was fantastic! You couldn't get it any fresher! The folks there were very nice and friendly! We'll definitely be coming back! If your up this way take a trip to it.

We are visiting the area and decided we had to come and catch our own fish! Our kids loved it! They bait your cane pole with corn and you toss it in. They help you take the fish off the hook and while you wait for your food they provide you with hush puppies (all you can eat). They are very tasty! We had the blackened trout (per the owners suggestion) and the fried. They were both amazing! The cole slaw was the best side we ordered. Wish I had just ordered that as my 2 sides because it was so good. The owner and his son were very nice and our kids loved their dog, Lazy Bones! The restaurant isn't very big put they do have picnic tables outside. If visiting the area with little kids I would say this place is a must!!!!

Yep it looks like a dive but it has good food. There is one small table inside and a bunch of pick nick tables outside. The owner and the staff are all very friendly. We didn't want to fish so we let them pick out our trout for lunch. While you wait they bring out a fresh order of hush puppies. They are some of the best I have ever eaten. We both had the trout fried. It is very fresh, lightly battered and perfectly cooked. The piece of trout is huge. It was really too much for lunch. I would definitely go back. It was worth the ride. Don't forget to bring your cash or ATM card.

At first sight, we wanted to drive away...but that would have been a shame. The hospitality was great! The fishing for food experience was wonderful. But they need to work on atmosphere. The bathrooms were horribly filthy and made me nervous about the cleanliness of the kitchen.
