About Applebee's
Applebee is an American full-service restaurant brand popularly known for its signature Riblets. Applebee was conceptualized in 1980 by Bill and TJ Palmer in Atlanta, Georgia. At first, the restaurant was named T.J. Applebee's RX for Edibles and Elixirs. After the concept was acquired by W.R. Grace and Company, the restaurant was renamed as Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar. Later the company and the Applebee's concept changed hands with Abe Gustin and John Hamra who started the first Applebee's franchise restaurant in Kansas City.
Later in 2007, IHOP Corp. now known as DineEquity, Inc. acquired Applebee's and began their journey together to make Applebee's the world's largest full-service restaurant chain. Today, Applebee's serves at more than 1,830 locations worldwide. The Applebee's menu ranges from Appetizers and Salads to heavy meals consisting of ribs and steak. Although the trademark dish Riblets is a hot favorite among regular Applebee's dwellers, the restaurant also serves some amazing burgers, sandwiches, pasta, and salads.

Complimentary apple fritters were good. A lot of chicken dishes on the menu. Family atmosphere. Disappointed the the chicken pot pie was just had the crust over the top of the bowl.

The service was slow despite the fact that the place was maybe half full. Our food was over cooked (eggs), and I felt like I was eating IHOP food. Our food was slightly cold as if it just sat waiting to be served. Fritters and apple Julep were excellent, but that is about it. Service always ruins a restaurant to me.
(2)Joe D.
Not bad. The loaded potatoes were amazing. Same with the bacon and apple related things. I gave it 3 stars because I had to go to the bathroom before I left... About halfway through breakfast, it hit. If you're not used to your food being greasy, be prepared for a trip to the bathroom.

This place came highly recommended so we had to try it out. They weren't very busy so we did not have to wait. The hostess was nice and took us to a table quickly. The waitress was nice as well. She brought the heavenly apple fritters, apple butter, and juice shortly after we sat down. It was all so dang good. We got the trip sampler with fried chicken, pot pie, and chicken and dumplings. The pot pie was honestly not that good:-( the fried chicken was nice and juicy. The chicken and dumplings were good and flavorful. The mashed potatoes and fried okra were ok. We were too full for desert.

Absolutely wonderful food and service. One of the must when dining in Pigeon Forge, TN.
(5)Brandon E.
Delicious food, excellent service. I noticed there were several fire escapes, which really helped my claustrophobia. A lot of things there are made out of wood, so steer clear if you're allergic to trees. Would be nice if the chairs had wheels on them. Would recommend. Great place overall.

My very last visit here was a one star experience and the last few weren't much better. But the first few times that I came here was with large groups and everything was excellent. I don't know if they specialize in groups or if everything went down hill several years later. Dad and I were again in the area (Pigeon Forge is his favorite place in America) and I convinced him to give this place another try, because I swear I had a few good experiences here. We waited 45 minutes on a weekday, you would think that would be a good sign of good things to come, but it wasn't. When we sat down at our table, a lady next to us had huge union rings. We were scoping the onion rings our and she asked if we wanted one. Yes, we are in the south. For the record, I didn't take her up on the offer. I ended up ordering the vegetable platter and I ordered those good looking onion rings myself. Well... that was a disappointment. The batter on the onion rings weren't done, like doughy and they were saturated in grease. I do know that onion rings are fried, but these were abnormally greasy. The soup that I ordered was merely warm and nothing else that I ordered was worth writing home about. Farewell Applewood

We tend to go here for breakfast and I'm never disappointed with the food. Although they have stopped serving Dr. Pepper.. I ordered a hot chocolate and while it was good it just didn't really fit. I think I'll just start ordering a large glass of the apple julep. The fritters and apple butter are just amazing. I could make my whole meal on that. The chicken strips are great as in the biscuits and gravy. Overall this is a very cute place that I definetly recommend.
(4)Dale R.
Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner you'll get an awesome Country meal here every time. I don't always eat here for Dinner or Lunch but I do try to eat here for Breakfast every time I am in the area! Eggs, crispy bacon and pancakes are my normal breakfast here and must say I enjoy them every time. They will give you a sample of Apple Julep when they bring the apple fritters, apple muffins and Apple Butter. I always order a full glass of the stuff. I really enjoy. The atmosphere here is awesome and in the spring time it is a beautiful scene with the blooming apple trees! What more can I say, it's awesome and I am confident you'll find it awesome too.

It's a trap! ....but in a good way. Here I am in Tennessee, on vacation with the famdango, and everyone wants to come here for breakfast. Instead, we made it for lunch! (This is what happens when you're traveling with 6 kids, including myself!) This is one of those five-in-one type of "touristy" places that has "local" charm. There are two restaurants, a winery, a bakery, and a general store all rolled up into one location. Usually I shy away from places like this, but today I made an exception. Hunger apparently wins every time.... First things first. Be prepared for wait times of forty-five minutes or more during the breakfast, lunch, and dinner rushes. Patience is key. You can mill about the general store, the winery, and the bakery while you wait.... and wait you will. Second. If you like kitchy crafts and seasonal merchandise, the general store will seem like heaven. Come after Christmas and you will find most of the merchandise marked down. Rare steals are possible if you know where to look. Thirdly. Wine sampling is free! Service in the restaurants is good and prompt. Once you're sitting down at the table your waiter will waste no time in getting your order and doling out those apple fritters with apple butter. While you're at it have an apple julep or some apple juice to wash them down. Can you guess the theme? Don't expect a five star experience here, but you won't be disappointed with the service or the prices. If you're traveling on a budget you can get a decent lunch for under twenty bucks. Can't beat that! A word of advice. If you sit down on one of the many rocking chairs that adorn the covered porch, make sure you have someone with you. Falling asleep is entirely possible.... Remember to tip in cash. These folks work mighty hard to give you their very best service.

Showed up for breakfast at 10:30, it was after 11:00 when we were seated. Could not order breakfast like we were hoping for. A little disappointed. We were told that it was only a 30 minute wait. After 30 minutes came and went, we were told it would be another 20 minutes. Why can't they just tell you that to begin with?
(2)Diana D.
First time here for lunch and we were so disappointed. Our waitress was rude and seemed bothered to serve us. The food was mediocre and tasted like cafeteria food. We had the meatloaf and country steak. The only two good things from our visit were the apple fritters and joulep. We experienced better service and food at Mama's Farmhouse & Paula Deen's. Save your money and go elsewhere!
(2)Anita W.
I don't even like southern cooking, but this place was good. I was shocked at how many great options they had for allergies, and according to the waiter, the chef is OCD about allergies, which is awesome. My only wish is that they had a dairy-free cobbler or pie - easy enough to make with shortening. We would definitely go back - everyone was stuffed and happy after the meal. If you have a party of 2-6, request the porch swing tables. They look so fun!
(5)Gwen O.
As always a good breakfast. Very fast service and our waitress was good. I recommend this place definitely for breakfast.
(4)Laurie A.
The first thing you taste after being seated at the Applewood Farmhouse Grill are the apple fritters they place in front of you, all hot and fresh from the fryer, sprinkled with powdered sugar. And that is pretty much all you really need to eat, they are AMAZING! But since you're an america and you're in the south you'll order an entree anyway! I ordered the shrimp and grits with andouille sausage. It wasn't the best S&G's that I've ever had but still good. My hubby ordered the fried catfish with the jalepeno and cheddar cornbread waffle which he really enjoyed. The portion sizes are generous, the service was great, and you can roll next door to buy wine (I recommend the Apple Cranberry) or a little bit further to buy some apple butter of your very own. We will definitely be stopping back here on our next trip to the area.
(4)Ann K.
Fried chicken was OUTSTANDING. Everything was fresh and appetizing. I loved the hibiscus blueberry iced tea. The waitress was so nice, I wanted her to be my mother.
(5)Kevin S.
Excellent food and service. Started with apple fritters and apple butter....very tasty! Then came the chicken and dumplings meal...super fresh tasting and served hot. Relaxing atmosphere....I would highly recommend this place.
(5)Chuck H.
I was not impressed with this restaurant. We were at the original farmhouse which sits next to the full scale restaurant. We had breakfast and the corn fritters were delicious as was the breakfast skillet. The downside, most of our meal arrived cold including the waffles, eggs, and the worst grits in the south. I would not recommend and will not go back.
(2)Louie R.
For several years we have driven pass the Applewood Restaurants and kept saying we should stop there for a meal. We finally did yesterday for breakfast and we are glad we did. The service was excellent. We were shown to a table promptly with our waitress arriving shortly there after with complimentary apple fritters, mini muffins and a small glass of juice. After taking our orders it seemed like in no time our food was at our table. Everything was hot and delicious. I truly recommend the home fries as they come out seasoned perfectly. The portion sizes are big, however if you plan your visit out right you can skip lunch as you will be full until supper time.
(5)Hope M.
We went there on an off hour and we are glad we did. The waiter was extremely attentive. The food tasted like it came out of grandmas kitchen. It was fresh and made from scratch. The plates were big enough that 2 people could have eaten off of them.
(4)Amanda S.
Good breakfast food. Sister restaurant to the other Applewood restaurant. A bit of line to get in. The apple fitters and apple julep are complementary and are a great way to start the meal off. The children's breakfasts are plentiful. I enjoyed the stuffed French toast and my husband had the pancake/French toast combo. The food came out not as piping hot as I would have preferred. Still good though. I really enjoyed the home fries loaded with cheese, tomato, bell pepper, and onion.
(4)Amanda Y.
The food is amazing!! The service is terrific. Tony fit right in with our crowd perfectly!!
(5)John M.
Great food, good people and plenty of side shops. Just good tasting and large portions.
(5)Ashley H.
We were SO pumped to eat here. We're from Ohio, so we were super excited about eating at a nice Southern restaurant. However....we were really disappointed. I ordered the 4 piece chicken with the vegetable soup to start. My sides were mashed potatoes and dumplin's. I had a Mountain Dew to drink. My boyfriend ordered the sampler, which comes with a fried chicken breast, small chicken pot pie, and a small bowl of chicken n' dumplin's. He also started with a cup of vegetable soup. His sides were green beans and mashed potatoes. He had the lemonade to drink. When you first arrive, they immediately bring you a complimentary basket (you only get one) of their fritters with apple butter. Alongside that, you also get a small glass per person of their 'Julep' drink. Okay, so now that I've set the stage for you...let me break it all down =/ Okay, let me first comment on the attire of the staff. What the hell were the owners thinking?! The men are in normal clothes - red shirt and black pants. But the women are all wearing these God forsaken dresses - the kind I picture polygamists and/or mormons wearing. They are pink plaid and go down to mid shin. I understand that the 'theme' is old fashioned, good home cookin', but this is ridiculous. Stop making these ladies wear this hideous garb and get with the times. I'd rather have a 'modern' country look than these horribly outdated outfits (and decor, might I add. The walls are a vine/flower wallpaper with random fishing nets hanging around?). With that said, our waitress, Victoria, was probably the NICEST waitress we've ever come across. She was super friendly and very attentive. If I ever do go back, I'll be asking for her! Now, onto the food. The starter: Fritters with apple butter. TO DIE FOR. These were absolutely delicious and may be the only reason I'd ever go back. They are fried and sprinkled in powdered sugar. Apple butter is on the side - and I'm not a fan of apple butter but I scarfed this down. It's not like Cracker Barrel's - this has a lighter flavor almost. It's a must try. I was confused by the 'Julep' drink - it just tasted like orange juice and pineapple juice mixed together - or perhaps some fruity 'girl' drink I usually order, except they forgot to add my shot of [insert delicious alcohol here]. My plate: the chicken was semi-juicy and the skin tasted good. However, the chicken wasn't anything special, and I often make something nearly identical at home. I would also have expected a restaurant who touts 'famous' chicken to have had large chicken with lots of meat, and this one did not. The leg, wing and thigh had no meat on them, and the breast had minimal. The mashed potatoes, however, were delicious! They seem to have that down pat. They were spiced perfectly, and they had SUCH a creamy texture. Loved them. The dumplin's tasted EXACTLY like the ones at Cracker Barrel, and so, impressed I was not. My boyfriends plate: He felt the chicken had a good flavor, but again, nothing special. The chicken pot pie was more like chicken pot soup. The inside was watery-er than any soup I've ever seen actually. He was also not impressed with the dumplin's (I make the ones from the Pioneer baking mix box, which are amazing, so he could be biased). Also, he was very confused about the green beans. He's a bit of a green bean connoisseur, so he was put off by the fact that they had a) no flavor and b) they were italian style? Why would a country restaurant have italian style green beans? Beats me. For both of us, the vegetable soup was a major let down. they should rename this the tomato and pepper soup. There are large chunks of tomato in this soup, but there is SO MUCH of it that it really felt like there was nothing else in the soup. And my God the pepper! Someone must love pepper, because there was so much pepper in this soup it was burning my mouth. Neither of us finished it. #Fail! Overall, this restaurant was highly disappointing. Gordon Ramsey would be ashamed. If I go back it will be for a couple orders of the fritters as a dessert...however I saw a review for their breakfast, and that is something I'd be willing to go back and try. For the two of us with the above meal, we were charged $40....that is SO overpriced. Not to bring up Cracker Barrel again, but their Sunday chicken is WAY better and half the the cost for two people.
(2)Tiffany M.
They offer fritters just like the applewood restaurant on the other end of the parking lot. We went here for breakfast, and it was okay. The cheesy grits where kinda watery though. And the fritters over fried. The service was pretty good. But the food just wasn't satisfying. The stuff French toast isn't stuffed, it's more like a sandwich, but it's too messy to pick up. The eggs on the Benedict weren't poached like they should have been. They do serve a free apple julep sample which is nice. But then again they serve hockey puck sausage, which is a bit of a let down. It's nothing you couldn't fix you self really quick for less on your own.
(3)Jim F.
Food is no better than your local buffet. Only way they got a 2 star was for the Apple Fritters. Otherwise would be rated a 1 star.
(2)Keith H.
Great place to eat! I liked the fried biscuits, the apple julep, and the good home cookin'! Portion sizes made it worth the price. The staff had that great southern hospitality.
(4)Josh K.
We only came to get their apple fritter and it was truly delicious! Definitely a great desert for a big group.

I have family in the area, and the Applewood Farmhouse used to be our go-to spot for getting together when everyone was in town. I never thought I'd have a bad thing to say about this brand, but after last Friday's visit to the Grill, we've decided to never go here again. We decided on the Grill after a lackluster visit to the original Farmhouse on our previous visit where food was just OK and service was slow. Well this ended up even worse. There were four of us in the party, and only my brother ended up pleased with his order. My turkey was terrible, but the thing that sealed it was MY MOTHER FOUND A BLACK HAIR IN HER POT PIE!!!!!!!! Actually it was not the hair that sealed it (although that is gross), but it was the reaction of the manager. The waiter took the plate and about 10 minutes later the manager came out to speak with us. She informed us that "after completely inspecting the hair, we have decided it was a blonde hair not a black hair." Well my mother is blonde, so we immediately realized she was implying that it was my mother's hair in the food. She may have even been implying that my mother put the hair there intentionally to be comped a meal. No apologies were made. They did comp my mother's meal, but they did so with that accusatory manner and without any apology. Keep in mind that we've been going to this franchise since we were kids. It used to be such a treat, and we've never once complained about a meal in an attempt to get free food. I didn't even complain about the turkey despite it being worse than any turkey I could have gotten at any other restaurant. Also keep in mind that all of us saw the hair and it was most definitely a dark hair not a blonde hair. You could even tell it was dark when covered in the pot pie broth. So I will simply say this: Go here if you enjoy finding stray hairs in your food and then having management unapologetically blame you for it. Otherwise, I'd recommend staying away because they don't know good customer service. Not only are we repulsed but also insulted. There is no southern hospitality here!

AMAZING!!!! Our waitress was super sweet and the food makes this place a must. My husband and I had the apple fritters with Apple butter, we shared a sampler that had chicken and dumplings, chicken pot pie and an amazing fried chicken. The chicken noodle soup, turnip greens, Mac and cheese and corn bread that accompanied our meal was awesome. We will be back- again and again.
(5)Eric M.
Best catfish I have ever had, great service, very good apple fritters, very good chicken dumplings
(5)Brandon P.
My family decided to try this place for breakfast on the first day of our Vacation. My first impression is the place looks very nice and the swings for seating in certain areas was an interesting idea. The free fritters and julip was great as most people have suggested. Also the muffins were awesome as well! I ordered the Farmhouse skillet and my wife ordered the biscuits and gravy. Great choices! The skillet was very tasty with sausage and eggs, onions and peppers. Biscuits and gravy were tasty as well. Overall my experience was great. I would definitely recommend this place. A must try in Pigeon Forge.
(5)Michelle W.
Family had Thanksgiving Dinner here in 2012. Delicious! Apple fritters dusted in powdered sugar and dipped in apple butter. Washed down with an Apple Julep and followed by huge feast of turkey, ham, roast and veggies. Dessert was warm apple cobbler and great coffee. You will enjoy it!!!
(5)Joyce M.
The Applewood Farmhouse Grill was walking distance from my hotel. It is a very pretty, very homey place. However, the food is just OK....except for the apple fritters. They were absolutely delicious. They were served with an apple butter that was a tad sweet. Overall, really good, though. I ordered fried chicken, mainly because I never make fried chicken. It was disappointingly dry. The crust was crispy and flavorful, but it didn't make up for the dryness of the chicken. The sides were OK - sauteed greens and fried okra. I have to admit that the fried okra that used to be served at Popeye's Chicken was much better. It is a nice place. The service was friendly and fairly quick. There were lots of families and senior citizens eating there. I probably would not go back to the Applewood Farmhouse, but I'm glad that I got to experience their apple fritters.
(2)Chris S.
Great southern food. Service was good too. Wait was long though, lots of tour groups ahead of us.
(4)Janine B.
As everyone else says, the Julip and Fritters were great. The food was good. Price was decent, but we did go for lunch. The dinner prices would have been a little too high. We went during off season, so wasn't crowded at all. Did not have to wait long for our food. Someone earlier said they do not call your name for a table?? We stayed at the Comfort Inn across the street, and when on the balcony, we would hear tables being called (during busy Sunday morning breakfast).

Pretty standard southern fare. Nothing was especially good, but not bad either. Dinner prices were kinda high, but you do get a lot of food. They get bumped up to 3 stars because of the free apple fritters served with apple butter (OMG... SOO GOOD).

We love the store and the products, the restaurant was mediocre at best other than as everyone agrees the fritters are good, however my primary complaint is with cleanliness after witnessing a server handle the ice in the water and tea picture with his bare hands (and believe me he wasn't a surgeon) and then wipe them on his dirty pants I was done most places at least do it where you can't see them ;)

Same menu pretty much as the Applewood farmhouse restaurant except only dinner. The food is average to above average. Not sure if this is a complaint, but my biggest thing was scale back on your portions. So you walk in you get apple julep drink and fried appellant fritters. Then homemade soup then a salad, then your entrees and vegetables which is a huge amount. I think they got a good thing going even if it is tourist food, but just need to scale the amount of food back some. Most of the people that eat there are on vacation and may not really have anything to do with all the leftovers you will have.
