This past Saturday we joined our Tennessee family for dinner at Amis Mill. We drove 6 miles down curvy country road with beautiful scenery. As we approached the sun was setting and the entire property was just glowing in warm sunlight. There were 9 in our party and we made a reservation a few days before. Upon entering a male manager or owner greeted us with a warm welcome. He then sized up our group and said, "this is going to work out really well" and we were shown to our table. Our table for 9 was actually 2 separate tables!! WTF. He said, "The 3 young people can sit here, and the 6 adults can sit over here." REALLY?!?! We spoke amongst ourselves and the kids ended up liking the idea of their own table but I would have preferred us to all eat and sit together, hence the reservation. I would normally have been pissed off and my meal ruined but our waitress was sweet as pie and the food was pretty good. The view from the covered porch was lovely. We shared: fried green tomatoes and alligator bites. Not my pick but I was starving and they both tasted fine. I had the flat iron steak with a baked potato. Others had smoked ribeyes, oysters!! In the mountains of Tennessee?!?!? and other various meals I now cannot remember. They had limited alcohol. I had a Fat Tire beer for $4. Total for 9 was about $150. which I though was very fair. I would return.

Amis Mill Eatery was one of the best place we had in our family vacation on 8/21. A nice lady name Linda from Longstreet Headquarters museum told us about this place, so we gave it a try. The drive from Morristown to Rogersville was phenomenal and fantastic. When we got to the restaurant which is inside the mountains our server Rechelle helped us from beginning to end. She had very good manners, great service and most of all very attentive. The food was fantastic my husband was very pleased and the BEST OF ALL was the dessert of the day was blueberry cobbler delicious. We were here for our family vacation and we loved the place, ambiance, and the small trails inside the property.

The most beautiful place to have a meal. Good food especially the Friday night smoked prime rib. Very pricey tho!

Great atmosphere! The prime rib special is awesome. The second time I ate was not as great but was still good.

Really great food in a really beautiful setting! This is one of our favorites on the weekend when we just wanna go for a ride through the country with the kids. I've been hung up on the Cajun sampler with an extra side of crawfish tails for a long time now. The jambalaya, gumbo, and red beans with rice are to die for. And there is always more than we can eat. We take the extra home and it is just as good later when nuked in the microwave. The surroundings outside are awesome. You are overlooking the remnants of an old grist mill site with a nicely wooded area with a creek flowing over a very old dam. Great historic place to bring the whole family.

Great setting, the drive getting there is also part of the ambience. Go for lunch as seats outside are coveted. Great for group/family experiences and photo ops. Location alone gives this place 1.5 stars. The menu is nice and varied, a lot of fried options which besides the, Appetizer sampler, were good. Bread and our waitress came late, biscuits were better than the cornbread. The Cajun options were well liked: sampler, red beans and rice, and shrimp po-boy were tops. Greeter is friendly, but staff on the floor looked lost and angry especially the expediter. You can watch the kitchen work from a couple of tables inside and they were on-point knocking out what looked to be killer steaks. Will definitely try one next time!

I strongly recommend this place. It's a bit far from the city and they are only open a few days a week, but the restaurant has a relaxed atmosphere in a beautiful area near a waterfall and the food is outstanding. I ordered fried catfish and fried green tomatoes. The tomatoes were picked from two big tomato plants right in front of the restaurant! They were served very hot and tasted great. I enjoyed catfish and was impressed with the exceptionally well made tartar sauce that came with it. And, French fries were incredibly good...one of the best fries I have ever had... If you are on diet, you may not want to come..it's just too difficult not to finish up such great fried food... The waiter was very friendly and helpful too.

My steak was over done a bit it was still tasty. The staff was nice and the views were great. Just wish the sweat tea didn't have an odd taste.

Chicken and dumplings are canned, BBQ platter I had Saturday, the brisket was rancid and the pulled pork and ribs had an odd flavor. The fried green tomatoes are frozen. In our party of six, most of the plates were full of food, but the wait staff didn't ask if anything was wrong with the food. She asked about the tomatoes, we said they were not good....in fact, we didn't eat but two of the "slices".....of course. They charged us for them anyway. Finally, the flies were terrible and landing all over our food. We had to ask them to turn the ceiling fans on to try and help create wind to keep them away. This place won't last long. Save yourself a stomach ache and time and eat at home.

My wife and I was in the area so we thought we would stop in and try this place out. I had the New York strip and my wife had the chicken Alfredo. The food was okay. The steak was cooked more well done that medium and on the dry side. The chicken Alfredo was okay according to my wife. The appetizer platter was decent. The jalapeño poppers were on the cold side. We sat outside on the deck. It was a quite country setting with what I would call a large creek with a waterfall across the road. I would probably eat there again but would not make a special 1 hour drive for the quality of the food.

I'm baffled that this place doesn't have a real (ie, not filtered) review yet on Yelp. We've found the more rural areas of east Tennessee to be somewhat of a dining desert, so we were thrilled to have found a place somewhat close to our homestead that has excellent, local food, an interesting atmosphere, and friendly, quick service. We ate here on Friday, April 20, 2012 right around noon. I had a cup of the jambalaya and a simple side salad with the apple balsamic vinaigrette - I'm new to southern food and no expert, but the jambalaya was flavorful and quite delicious, although I didn't get the cornbread that was supposed to accompany it according to the menu (and didn't notice until after the fact). The salad ingredients were fresh, and the vinaigrette was excellent - almost an applesauce-like consistency, which was different but welcomed. Hubs had the BBQ pork ribs with hush puppies and creole gumbo. The hush puppies were a bit heavier than we're used to, but the soup was as good as my jambalaya (I'm a soup snob). I'm not a huge fan of ribs in general, so keep that in mind, but I sampled one from the hub's plate, and even without that incredible bbq sauce they serve with it, it was the best I've ever tasted. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly. Our food came out within a matter of minutes after ordering, although I think we beat the lunch rush. The view from the covered patio is lovely, and the owners were in the process of adding another level to it to expand the seating. It was fun to watch their dog (Tess, the Chesapeake Bay Retriever, I think) run around fetching a tennis ball thrown by the owners while they worked on the deck while we ate. With tax, our bill was less than $35, not including gratuity. Second only to the River Place on the Clinch, which is our favorite restaurant close to our rural homestead, Amis Mill Eatery is definitely on our go-to list of places for a meal out.

We arrived early since we had heard that place often had long waits on the weekend and we were a party of six. The atmosphere is just what is advertised it is finished as an early American house/inn. The views from the outdoor deck overlooking the old mill dam and creekway are outstanding. We were seated quickly upon our arrival. The waitress came by to introduce herself and took our drink orders to give us time to review the menu and make our selections. While waiting we noticed another table being seated that brought their own bottle of wine to have with dinner. Since the restaurant is located in a dry county no alcohol is served there, but they seem to have decided to allow patrons to bring their own. I am not sure if there is a corking fee if you were to do this. We ordered some crawfish tails to start with, they were served with a house horseradish dip. They had good flavor, but as with calamari if they are over cooked they can start to become somewhat chewy. These were on the other side of being done, but not entirely to the stage of being chewy yet. The waitress also brought bread with olive oil over herbs, mainly basil and rosemary., the flavor combination was quite nice. I ordered the pulled pork plate with a side of cinnamon apples. The kitchen and waitress were working well together since the food arrive shortly after finishing the appetizer.. The pork was barely warm and very dry. The sweet BBQ sauce was the only one provided, it was just a bit hotter than I normally enjoy. but not so spicy that I wouldn't eat it. The cinnamon apples came out in a large dish that we ended up eating as a dessert since one member of the party just wanted a few of their french fries and I ate those. The fries were served hot and crisp on the outside while still tender on the inside. The cinnamon apples were sweet and also had a hint of vanilla flavor. The vanilla flavor mixed with the apples actually made me want to have them with vanilla ice cream as a complete dessert rather than as a side item with the meal. The apples were thoroughly cook, but not mushy. I gave Amis Mill only three stars because of the disappointment with the pork left me with a feeling of it was just OK. Most of the other members of the party felt the same about their meals that they were OK, but had not been converted to fans. If yelp had a rating system for service that would have been a 5 star experience based on the expectations I have for this type of restaurant in the area. I will have to try them again when traveling up in this area to visit family to see if at a different time they can change my view from just OK to at least a 4th star of being a fan.

If you are looking for a laid back atmosphere with a rustic charm not to mention a beautiful view of a river/waterfall and a roaring fireplace this is the place. Food is good but the atmosphere makes the trip worthwhile. There's not many places like this left.

I ate on the covered porch and enjoyed fried green tomatoes and chicken and dumplings. It is hard to know where to stand when you go inside (no real hostess station) and because I was dining alone I think I threw them off. But after I was seated my waitress was very attentive.
