We used to come here a lot about 7-8 years ago. I guess I just forgot about it or it wasn't convenient. But it was my bday and I wanted comfort food. It absolutely was the same as before... Hot, fresh, yummy and large portions. Nothing here tastes like it came from a can. The country fried steak is to die for. Tender, salty, crispy... And a large piece. The mashed potatoes are real, perfectly seasoned with just enough lumps to taste like your Mom made them. They have several daily vegetables and meat specials but get there early if you want the full selections. When they are out they are out! And every time I have been here they have crossed something off the list. I can honestly say I have never had anything I didn't like. The desserts are exceptional. My only complaint is that all the cream pies have merengue. And I am not a fan. But that is just a personal preference. The best dessert here is the sinful delight. Chocolatey fluffy goodness. The same sweet woman my daughter and I remember serving us years ago is still there... Such a joyful woman. She seems to truly love her job and loves all the kids who come in. They give every kid a treat when you leave. Such a great touch!!

Decided to try out this place and wasn't disappointed. The place was packed full and I can see why. Plenty of choices of food, like mom used to cook. Great size portions and friendly staff. We didn't order any dessert, but looking at the other people who did, they were huge slices of pie and cake. Would definitely visit again if in town.

Ok I consider myself a pretty good home cook. I want food made from scratch not out of can or a box! Most of the reason we don't eat out more often is my reasoning...why pay for home cooking at a place that just opens cans? And too many do just that! This place doesn't open cans. The sliced sweet potato weren't canned, cabbage was fresh cut, squash casserole was wonderful. Don't even ask just how great that banana pudding was!!! As I've said in my other reviews "don't believe in giving 5 stars because no place is perfect all the time". Well we're going back to this place to see if they aren't perfect because today they were!

This is about as good as it gets. Meat and three shines here. The staff is fantastic, and you feel at home when you visit. Their desserts are the best around. We were proud to do our show there. For a complete idea of Countryside Cafe, check this out: youtube.com/watch?v=EDo_…

This is so far the best country restaurant I have ever been too. No where in my life have I seen so many sides you can order. I counted 37. Wow enough said. Our waitress said sometimes they have even more. Some of the special sides I saw were; pineapple casserole, squash casserole and a few other casseroles. They have fried okra too. Now for the main course, I got chicken and dressing see pic. There is a lot to be said here. Customer service excellent. If you go on Sunday remember that they open at 10:30 and close at 2:30. So, you have four hours. I would suggest getting there no later than 1:30 to allow time to look at menu, special board menu, place your order and have time to eat and not be rushed. I am going to say if you had to rate this restaurant on a scale of 1 - 5, it is a perfect 7. Here's why, the portions of food you get is bigger than average. Also, the number or sides you get is more than the average which is 3 sides with your main course. The price was at a good value too. Any restaurant you go to and the parking lot is full, you are at a great restaurant. Our waitress was professional and friendly yet very knowledgeable about what they offer. My friend kept asking her questions and the waitress knew the answers which were all about food. Overall, to put this restaurant into perspective, you get fresh, delicious southern cuisine at its best. Stay full all day with country cooking from Tennessee at Country Side Cafe with a taste of southern hospitality you feel at home. We felt comfortable coming here even though it was our first visit. Finally, my friend can be critical of her food, but she was not here. She was happy and took home a to go box and said it was better than Cracker Barrel. I agreed with her.

Good home cooked food with a great country feel. Lots of different options of for everyone's different tastes. I have always loved the pies they. My favorite is the chocolate pie. Taste just like homemade. I will purposefully not eat all of my dinner to have enough room for one of their pies! Next time you are in Ooltewah, I recommend this place!

Still the best home cooking in the tri county area. Everything is great. The chicken livers may be the best I have had. Prime rib is excellent. Chicken and dressing days are high on my list. On top of the many dinners. They have excellent sides. You get to pick three sides and would be rare your not taking home leftovers from the portions they give You think it can't get better then comes the many homemade deserts. My favorite all around home cooking place in Tennessee.

This place was highly recommended by my coworkers, and I decided to give it a shot. I had fried chicken livers, fried okra, mashed potatoes, spiced apples, corn bread, and coconut cake. The fried livers were not bad, but I liked the ones at Little Diner on 1st more. Fried okra was decent, mashed potatoes, spiced apples, and coconut cake were very good, and the corn bread was a bit disappointing. Overall, I was happy with the meal; I ate for two and paid for one, so not a bad deal in any way. The service was phenomenal, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a nice southern meal.

My wife and I drive by this restaurant often, every time we do there's a good deal of traffic in the parking lot. We decided to give it a try. Upon entering, the staff was friendly and cordial (thus why the 2 stars). The dining area was drab and uninviting. I ordered the Meatloaf with the usual 'fixins' and my wife had chicken. To our surprise the food was bland and very salty (and myself from the south) although the portions well balanced and generous. We could live with the drab and uninviting dining room, but not the lack of quality in the cooking and preparation of the food. We will not patronize this restaurant again.

Forget cracker barrel. Yummy. Everything. We went there again yesterday. It was great. Good thing I don't live close too this place. I would be there every day and weigh 500 lbs.
Always a good meal, lots of food choices and the portion sizes are very generous. The traditional meat and three at a slightly above average price but for the taste and portions you can't go wrong. The dessert menu is huge and from everything we have tasted..... Delish!!

My first visit, parking lot was packed, that should tell you something. Inside is not that large but we were seated immediately. A VERY large selection of food to choose from. Didn't take long to get our meal. You get 1 meat and 3 vegetables. Portions are more than enough. I must have seen a half a dozen people getting 'to go' plates. Another large selection of deserts, really looked good but no way after the more than ample meal. Everyone was very nice, friendly and professional. The bill was $36 for 3 of us plus tip, 3 regular meals and drink. I would definitely recommend this establishment to others and plan to go back again myself.

Very hospital restaurant. The waitresses are very nice and eager to refill your sweet tea, lol. You will be taken care of here. The restaurant can get busy but remains calm and quiet. The food is great. I had a broiled chicken breast with mac n' cheese, mashed potatoes, sweet corn, and corn bread. We left with two delicious coconut pies. :P The food is very reasonably priced. I would totally go here again. Highly recommended.

Just moved to the area and decided to try the Countryside Cafe. I thought they might be open for breakfast (which they are not) and when I drove by one day the lunch crowd had packed the parking lot and the empty lot next door, this had to be a good sign? We went for Friday dinner, which was a mistake - you'll wait about 30 minutes and the backup seems to start just after 5 or 5:30. There isn't much indoor waiting area either. The cafe turns it over quickly, but you'll still wait. I saw a sign that said "most affordable meat and three" or something to that effect, but when our dinner was done (two adults and two children under 5) with one dessert, our bill was $55 before tip?!! That's not affordable in my books - the kids' meals were both over $5 drink not included. I'm not a huge meat and three lover - neither is my wife. The meat I had, pot roast, was cooked well, her ribs a little dry. The sides are extensive any what you would expect in most country diners. I thought their use of local ingredients to the extent possible was also a nice touch. I will probably give this place another shot at lunchtime. The staff was friendly and the owner was working the floor as well, but I don't know if I would do dinner again - especially on a Friday.

We drove. To the country side cafe. Long way to go. But the broasted chicken breast was there. Abit pricey for one chicken piece. The atmosphere was country. Trouble was ALL of our sides were cold to Luke warm We got there late so that could have been the reason. All in all a good p Place. To sit down and enjoy dome southern cooking. Staff very friendly

Peas were out of a can and not very good, wood cooked chicken was tasty but small portion and flounder, well, obviously frozen and then cooked and very dry. Desserts, were good but nothing to really write home about. Overall, service was good but average food at reasonable prices, that's all. Disappointed as this was first visit after reading the write ups in the paper .and probably will not be back

Very disappointing. The turkey was pink and the dressing was a blob of mush. Sent it back and they still charged $6.00 for the vegetables which were so so. The cucumber and tomato salad was good. The ice cream was homemade and delicious. Stick with dessert only.

We went here a few times. Good food and nice staff but nothing really special. Maybe we didn't sample the menu enough? Home county food which is really good but it's more so you don't have to make it yourself. For the area we lived in this was the closest diner aside from another BBQ place. We were here when teen mom was filming once. Kind of annoying.

When I want to get a meal that I know will be top-notch, Countryside Cafe is where I go. I've never had anything on their menu that didn't taste delicious. You can definitely tell all the yummy goodness is homemade. I love the wood-grilled chicken, but also will order the meatloaf, pork chops, ribs, or pulled roast beef. I found this place on Yelp and have been back a few times. Great food, "home-style" service (expect the servers to treat you like a member of the family) and what is best... they have different specials everyday. LOVE this place! Great food. This is Real southern home cooking. They have mammaws in the kitchen. Fresh veggies, whatever is in season. Do Not miss the desserts. They are famous. Tip: don't order from the menu. Order from the wall specials. They are always best.

I ordered a burger combo. I was shocked it was only a half of piece of hamburger meat. It wasn't done so I sent it back. You would think they would have known it was only a half a piece of meat. This place was great! They give you good sized portions for good prices. The service was as good as you will get anywhere. I ate blackberry cobbler for desert and it was outstanding. This place is defiantly on my list of restaurants I will make it a habit of goin to

Great food & service. Country comfort food; it's a "meat & three" restaurant. The atmosphere is quaint & it's not a big place but well worth the trip.

LOVE this place! Great food. This is Real southern home cooking. They have mammaws in the kitchen. Fresh veggies, whatever is in season. Do Not miss the desserts. They are famous. Tip: don't order from the menu. Order from the wall specials. They are always best.

We were on vacation from Pennsylvania and found this Southern gem on Yelp. Great service and southern food. Plus, can't beat the list of homemade pies and cakes. Known for the coconut pie!

Too good to describe in words! Save room for dessert.

A local legend. If you're looking for "Real" southern food and find yourself in semi-rural southeast Tennessee, then stop by this joint and get your fill of country fried this and that and banana puddin...
