Our first meal after my wife had a heart attack and completed rehabilitation was very special here. Service is impeccable and Italian food is amongst the best in the city. Going again for our anniversary. After dinner, go upstairs to list to john Jonethis at the piano bar over after dinner cocktails. Makes for a very special evening out.

Romantic Atmosphere! The coolest thing about this establishment is the atmosphere. The brick walls with the Italian pictures and the candlelit tables provide a romantic scene for a great date night. The service was excellent. The servers stand by the door and are at your table the second you need anything. I only wish the food would have been better especially for the price. I don't mind paying more for great food but I've had better at chain Italian restaurants. We went during restaurant week. I ordered the Bucatini and my husband ordered the salmon. The bucatini was pasta with Italian sausage and pomodoro sauce. I didn't love it so I convinced my husband to switch with me. I liked the salmon a little bit better. The spinach risotto that came with the salmon was delicious. Maybe some of their other dishes are better but it will be awhile before we dine here again.

Very nice restaurant and wait staff was superb. Salads were excellent. I had garden salad, wife had the Caprese. The meals were average, at best. I had he Bucatini. Pasta was cold, the waiter was very nice and sent it back. They nuked it and it was not very good. Only ate a couple of bites. Wife had Lobster Ravioli which was very good. They did not charge for the Bucatini which was very gracious. Just a disappointing experience. Meal with one of the lowest priced bottles of Chianti was still $120.

Another one of those good not great places. Food has some solid quality. Exactly what you would expect from a higher end Italian restaurant but nothing that really makes it stand out over the next expensive Italian restaurant. If it was at a little bit of a lower price point I might bump them up a star. Service is good, but not 5 star good. Courteous but nothing really to set them above the rest. The ambiance of the place can be hit or miss. If you get a table in the basement it can be very intimate; if you get sat in the upstairs it is just kinda of meh...

For Nashville, Valentino's is one of the best Italian options. The staff are fantastic and I highly recommend sitting in the wine cellar forget ambience. My special treat is their Bananas Foster - made to order and spectacular!

I really wanted to like this place and I'm feeling sad. Made reservations for birthday dinner. Everyone was very friendly, great service and ambience... At first. We ordered a bottle of wine and 2 appetizers the Fritto Misto and the Burrata. I wanted to take my time, have some wine and try the food before I selected an entree. The appetizers were underwhelming to say the least. They were fine, we ate them... But I really wasn't impressed. Nothing seemed fresh, and I was beginning to have a bad feeling about ordering an entree. Instead my guy ordered an entree and I got a salad and I'm so glad I did. He ordered the Cioppino and it just wasn't good. It wasn't warm enough, the broth had no flavor, and the seafood wasn't right. I HATE sending things back but it really wasn't good. The server said he would talk to the "owner" to see what could be done. They offered to replace it with another entree. I'm sorry but after two apps, a salad and an entree all being sub-par, I don't want to waste any more of your food or my time. Maybe we ordered the wrong things, or that was just an off dish. The problem came when for the rest of the meal we got sideways looks from the staff and the server gave us forced apologies. I even apologized and explained that we did not want to be insulting but genuinely did not enjoy the food. They didn't charge us for the entree, which was appreciated. But we still spent over $100, left hungry, and on my birthday I felt like an inconvenience instead of a guest. We like to spend money on food... Just not mediocre food. We went somewhere else and had excellent food for less.

Just visiting from Atlanta and strolled down the street to Valentino's and walked in to great service, great ambiance and a dish of Paccheri that rivals anything in New York or Chicago!

We came for after dinner drinks to meet with coworkers. My husband loved the cigar bar and I loved the live pianist. Service was terrible on the patio, it seemed we were very overlooked. We will be back to try dinner.

Ok lemme start with the things I liked: I really liked the ambiance of this restaurant. It is very romantic with tablecloths, candles, exposed brick, and dim lighting. I could see this being a nice place to visit for a special occasion. The service was excellent. However, when we first walked in they immediately asked if we had a reservation. When we replied we did not they offered a small table in the bar area. And then to our surprise offered a table downstairs moments later. I guess someone cancelled. So, as a heads up, make a reservation especially on a Friday or Saturday night. We went on a Sunday at 6pm so it was NOT busy. Now, on to the whomp whomp...The prices are steep for an entree. The portion is a nice size though. However, $32 for some salmon, brussel sprouts, and beets...not worth it. We also had the appetizer that included fried calamari, shrimp, and other seafood. This being an Italian restaurant I thought they would REPRESENT on the calamari, but they did NOT. The calamari was too tough and the batter was ultra bland leaving my taste buds very disappointed. I wouldn't be opposed to going back and trying different items. If I do and have a different experience, then I'll definitely update my review.

The food was fine. And then we got out bill. I ordered a $10 salad and asked if they could add chicken without mentioning it to me, it was a $15 up charge. Making it a $25 salad. Not worth it. I also asked if he had pasta with meat sauce and he said no, then everyone else got the pasta with meat sauce.

Just completed Restaurant Week and this place was the last on my list, I wanted to go out with a Bang and it's was all I thought it would be and more. The staff was very knowledgeable about the menu the waiter was well refined in his manners and went out of his way to make sure you felt at home.the food was Excellent, not over big portions just right a great atmosphere families were in attendance as well..

Don't have too much to say about this place that hasn't already been said. The ambiance here is nice - similar to a bistro and great for a date night. The service was just ok - not extremely coordinated. Even though there were only about 6 other occupied tables in the restaurant, our waiters weren't communicating and we had one waiter come and give us menus after we'd already ordered our entree selections from another waiter. The food was nothing noteworthy. For the prices, I honestly expected something more creative or authentic. I think that is really the bottom line about this place - it is overpriced for what it is. I imagine they are able to stay in business because there are several hotels in the vicinity that point unknowing tourists to this restaurant. If you want an authentic Italian dinner and are willing to pay Valentino's prices, I would suggest going to Moto in the Gulch or Rolf and Daughters in Germantown. Much better quality food and service for the price.

Best. Italian. Food. In. Nashville. I had the Gorgonzola peaches, caprese salad, and lasagna. Everything was excellent and huge portions. My family also loved the wild salmon and gnocchi.

This is just a brief note: right now, during these beautiful nights we are having, the third floor deck area of Valentino's is open, and its beautiful. However, its smoky (cigars and cigarettes) but if you're like me a love a good cigar with a fantastic cocktail, this is a place you need to go while its a beautiful Nashville fall! The people up here are so entertaining and interesting, and while I may not be a fan of the guy playing piano (and his kind of crazy following) the deck area is kind of cut off from that and truly fun to sit out at. You still get great service from the ladies behind the bar, and it feels so old-world sitting out here on a cool night.

I came to the "smoking lounge" for a birthday party on a Thursday night, and once I was able to escape from the smoke, I had a lovely time! :) The upstairs bar is beautiful! The romantic lighting reminded me of a different time period, and I loved that the bartender put on a random 90's lite station on Pandora that had all of us singing along to Mariah Carey, Bryan Adams, and all the great horrible music of the 90's. They also offered 3 appetizers for $21 and house wines that were delicious! The eggplant appetizer was outstanding, and I'd highly recommend it to anyone! A couple partygoers ordered off the menu, and they had a seafood linguine that looked amazing... I tried Valentino's quite a few years ago and wasn't overly impressed, but after my lovely night out, I think I need to give it another go!

Valentino's used to be our go-to for our anniversary dinner. It always felt like a special treat. However, after last night, we will go someplace else next year. First, I made reservations for two ahead of time, and requested the wine cellar. When we arrived, we were seated in the lower dining room, which is noisy, and not as romantic as the cellar. The food was very good, but there is no longer the attention to detail, especially in the service, that there used to be. For the prices they charge, we really expected more. Our waiter was friendly, but didn't attend to details: didn't get my chair for me, plates were left for ten minutes or more before being removed, wine glasses were never removed after we finished our wine, so sat there dirty for the entire last half the meal. Also, I can remember in the old days, the waiters would make sure there were no crumbs on the table after they removed plates - not so anymore. Breadcrumbs stayed on the white linen tablecloth between every service. Not a huge deal, but again, you expect the best when you are paying premium prices. The ladies restroom was clean, but not immaculate - the sink had a cheap soap dispenser on it, with green goo between the bottle and dispenser. Our meals were very good, but not perfect, as they used to be in the past. I got the salmon, nice size portion, and tasty, but a little overdone and dry. The roasted beets and brussel sprouts that came with it were delicious. For $37 I expected the salmon to be perfect, too. It used to be. My husband got the roasted chicken. The chicken skin was rubbery, and the sauce overly sweet. Again, for $32, you expect the chicken to be perfect. The most disappointing part was dessert. We always splurge on the bananas foster for two made tableside. The waiter did a nice job making it, but instead of putting it in one large glass dish like they usually do, he put it into two separate bowls. The amount of ice cream in one bowl just wasn't sufficient to keep the hot topping from melting it too quickly, and after just a few (delicious) bites, we were both left with half a bowl of ice cream soup. I guess they ran out of the large bowls, because we had seen another table get one earlier. Instead of substituting, they should have just told us, and suggested something else. I mean, $22 for a bowl of ice cream soup, is not something I want to pay. Our total bill came to $160, which we expected - no surprised there. What we didn't expect was the sloppy service.

Not worth the price. Very pricy and the food was not. Service was ok but food was in need of heat.

My first visit here brought a party of 15 to the first floor dining room fronting on West End Ave. All family for my son's Vandy gtaduation dinner. The intimate setting, great food and service made it seem like we were having a family dinner at home. Had a great time and highly recommend Valentino"s.

I was so pleased at my dinner here! I have to admit, I was a bit nervous as I am Italian and I'm from Chicago where there are 100's (I think) of Italian restaurants to choose from. The fiance and I went here while in Nashville for the Bears game. We just got engaged the night before so we wanted to go out for a nice dinner to celebrate. This was a perfect choice. I highly recommend asking to be seated downstairs in the wine cellar area. It's romantic, dark and quiet. It was perfect for us. We were seated among 2 other couples there on their anniversary. I have heard that they have an upstairs dance/club area. I did not venture up that way. Now, for the food. Oh wait, service, our server was fantastic. He knew what he was doing and so did his assistant (not sure his title). This is a more old school type of Italian restaurant and the server does the caesar salad tableside and also does bananas foster tableside. Really onto the food: The soup and salad were pretty good. I had the caprese and the boy had the pasta fagioli soup. The most amazing appetizer was the Antipasto Toscano. Please order this. It has cheese, meat, and vegetables. The seasoning and dressings on all of these things are so fantastic. I fell in love, with a cold appetizer! For main courses, I had the lobster ravioli which was delicious and the boy had the papardelle dish with Italian sausage which he liked a lot. The dessert was also to die for. Table side bananas foster. It is two huge servings of the most delicious dessert you will ever have...assuming you like bananas, ice cream and alcohol. They also have a very nice wine selection. Fantastic service, amazing food, nice ambiance and wine. What more do you want?! If you are in Nashville, go here. (A little pricey, but worth it)

We had dinner there last night and it was great as always. The Caesar salad was great followed by the tuna special. Always a good local feel and never rushed is the best part. Great place to relax and enjoy a great meal.

The absolute best I have ever tasted. Buccotini, Osso Bucco.... Chef Richard Morton is unbelievable!!!!

  • Bobbie C.

The Osso Bucco was AMAZING! So very authentic and traditional ... I will Continue to visit this restaurant as long as I live in Nashville... Which will be probably forever! The waiter --Darrell---was amazing and all of their crew was and is so helpful and kind! The place was pretty crowded by the time we got our drinks but they catered to us like we were the only people there!! And it's by far the best Italian food in Nashville! Sure it's a little pricey and it's a little upscale but it is SO worth it and from the way they treat you-- you wouldn't know that only the "Upper crust" go there! By the way they treated us and laughed with us and served us... You would've thought we were the uppercrust of Nashville laugh out loud!!!

Servizio Scadente!! Well I have to say I am very disappointed. Communication and service play a big factor in this review. The food is saving them from 1 star to be honest. First off I made reservations via their website. I asked them if they could do cakes? They contact me 2 days prior to our event saying no, try calling this place. At that point I already ordered one elsewhere. Secondly, I made reservations for my hubby's birthday. This was such an important day as we are expecting and he had to leave the next day for training out of state. I asked for a romantic spot. They sat us just anywhere and not one person said a thing to him regarding his birthday. Glad I didn't bring his cake there cause I think they would of just brought it out any slopped it down in front of him! Very very disappointed on how they could of cared less if we were there or not! Lastly every time I asked for something they gave it to my husband. I am looking at the guy, like HELLO I asked you for the drink NOT him! This happened I think 3 times! I been to MANY Italian restaurants and being italian I can be very picky on the food. I will admit the food is great. The service needs work! If you have a piss poor attitude it's going to reflect on your customers and they won't return! There are many italian restaurants to choose from so I won't be returning.

After reading all about the new Greek chef, three friends and I went to dinner at Valentino's. None of us had ever been there before, drove past it many times, but never thought to go inside. After parking the car, and looking around, I saw that it was surrounded by hotels.. My first thought was, "they cater to tourists." After being seated and getting our first glass of wine and looking at the menu, I thought about my first thought and thought again, "No wonder they can charge these kind of prices.. They're situated between three hotels." This was the closest restaurant to the hotels, besides all the fast food joints. After looking at the menu and the prices, we all settled on just an entree. One gal ordered the Strozzapreti Gamberi e Pancetta at $28, another gal ordered Paccheri con Porcini e Gamberi at $30, another gal ordered just a salad, the Rucola con Pere Arroste at $11, and I ordered the lamb dish called Costolette di Agnello at $37. From what my dining partners said, small portions, high prices, great flavors, a little bland, and salty. I enjoyed my lamb and three glasses of wine. Everyone else was a little disillusioned at the portions they received for the amount that was charged. My portion was perfect for me as I'm not a large person with a large appetite. My wine was delicious and my bill with three glasses of wine and lamb - with tax came to $76. I kept my shock at minimal, but the other gals were making a lot of noise at the prices for the portions. I liked that they had valet parking, it was raining that night and didn't feel like getting wet. Service was good, atmosphere was bright, the place was nearly empty on a week night. I asked everyone if they would return and everyone said "No." If someone else were paying, I would be happy to go back and have lamb, again.

Amazing!!! We had a party of 8 and had a downtown trendy restaurant screw up our reservation on a Saturday night. With 8 people we knew we would have trouble getting in somewhere at 8 o'clock at night. Valentinos immediately accommodated us and gave us amazing service! Our waiter Kyle was very attentive and accommodating! He picked my husbands dish for him with no direction and it was an amazing choice!!! Everyone loved their food and drinks! This restaurant has been around for many years, but is definitely on my "go to" list for delicious Italian and a laid back atmosphere!

V's is a Nashville Classic/Vintage on West End that is now a bit long in the tooth. The kind of place that has many pockets of recumbent undisturbed dust gathered over many, many years.. The real value yelp's desire is not there IMHO. Very dated decor and wait staff! .....ONE word.. Stodgy

Not feeling the love that everyone seems to share for Valentinos. They get a star for friendly service. Everything else was comically bad. The Valentines day menu sounded great but nearly every course disappointed. I felt like I was at a cheesy wedding or corporate banquet. The seafood appetizer was okay, if a little rubbery. I swear, the Pasta e fagioli started with a Campbell's bean soup base. It just tasted canned. The veal was tough and tasteless, and the prime rib was overcooked. On to dessert...flavorless hard-as-a rock cannoli and a tiramisu that was almost entirely made of whipped cream, with a huge glob of Hershey's syrup on the plate. C'mon! This wasn't a high-school prom! This was an expensive meal! We had heard this was THE romantic place to go...one couple we chatted with at the valet stand even drove in from Knoxville JUST FOR THIS! Sad. They were just as dissatisfied as we were. In fact, I overheard the husband saying they should have gone to Steak n Shake. Oh, speaking of the valet stand, what a joke. Clearly, the valet was unprepared for the size of this crowd. One guy, taking several keys at a time...how is that going to work? The cars were lined up, blocking an entire lane of traffic, which caused an accident at one point. (We didn't see it, but heard all about it during our LONG wait for our car). When we were leaving, we waited for over a half hour before searching the lot for our car on our own. Found it parked 6 inches from another...then couldn't find the valet to get our key. After another twenty minutes of wandering in the rain, we got our key back, squeezed into our car and left the chaos behind. I'm usually one to give second chances...not sure I'm willing in this case. This restaurant must be surviving on hype, because it sure wasn't the food! I'm annoyed, offended and confused at all of the rave reviews. Is there a different experience upstairs? Were we in the "bargain" section or something? What am I missing here? It was, as I said, comical and we kept a sense of humor throughout the evening. WE had a fun night, mostly from laughing at the absurdity of the experience. Valentinos...thanks for giving us something to talk about, probably not the way you would have hoped.

My second time to Valentino's and wasn't disappointed at all. I had the Seafood Risotto and Caesar salad, made right at the table and I mean the dressing and all. The best Caesar Salad I've had. The portions are more than enough for anyone. My fiancé had the Veal Parm and loved it. As for the atmosphere it's more upscale and very relaxing. It was a great place to meet friends. There were 11 of us and it was a Saturday night with 7:30 seating, we were there until 9:45 but that is to be expect on a Saturday night. Overall a great night with great food and friends.

When I got invited to a company-sponsored dinner at Valentino's I immediately RSVPed because hey, I like Italian food and hey, I like it even better when I don't have to pay for it! My mood somewhat darkened when I was approaching the valet stand and a car pulled out of the parking lot without once looking to the right to see who was coming. So I did what I do to anyone that is driving less than optimally around me - I tapped my horn. Turns out this was one of the valet guys. Really? Is that how you are driving other people's expensive possessions? So then he gets out and looks at me and asks "Are you coming here?" with some attitude. Yes you punk, I am and I am now very uncomfortable leaving my car with you. I told him to look before he pulls out next time and he just walked off. Well, there goes your tip. Anyway, I was escorted to the private room - it is kind of down some stairs from the main dining room. It was a decently sized room, typical Italian decor, and did have its own bathrooms conveniently located right there in the entranceway. Probably could hold about 20ish people comfortably, so keep it in mind for your next group dinner. (The website also has an array of banquet menus for you to choose from.) We were started off with Tre-gusti pasta which was a trio of pasta: I think it was ziti and topped with marinara, Alfredo, and pesto. The pasta was well-cooked to an al dente texture and the pesto and marinara sauces were great. I don't really like Alfredo so I only took one bite but if you like it you will probably like this. Next came a salad course - I chose the Caesar salad. It was good, nothing special, but pretty good. For my entree I had a filet. I know, strange choice for an Italian restaurant and I can't even find it on the menu online, but that's what I had. It was cooked perfectly medium rare and was decent. Dessert was tiramisu and it was so good I ate all of it. The rest of the menu had a mix of chicken, salmon, and pasta dishes so pretty much anyone can find something to eat here. Cost appears to be $10-15 for appetizers, $25-$35 for entrees and $20-30 for pasta entrees so be sure to bring that plastic because you are gonna need it. Overall not a bad experience. Next time I'll come on my own dime and order some different items, perhaps some lasagna!

Fantastic! I know it is really petty, but the only thing that knocked off the fifth star is the absurdly loud clubby music blaring from the speakers (complete with whistles...just too much). On to the good--the atmosphere is lovely. There are multiple rooms. We enjoyed a drink in the bar before being seated downstairs in the dimly lit wine cellar. We started with the antipasti and some salads. The Caesar is for two and is prepared table side. It was one of the best Caesar salads I have tasted. I enjoyed the Gnocchi with Speck for my entree. It was insanely rich, but delicious...hey, it made two additional meals in the days following. I guess you could call that a bargain?? We were too full for dessert, but noticed they offered Bananas Foster. Not what I would expect, but always a great option! I'm not sure when we will be back, but I look forward to my next visit!

Other than the fact that our server was higher than a kite, we had a great experience here! The food was great and authentic, the seafood was FRESH, the wine list was pretty extensive, the bar drinks were good and our server was attentive (for someone who was bombed.) If you've never been before, finding the front door can be a bit of a struggle. Also, the manager, who also appears to be the host too, paced the entire restaurant and bar area when I went, which made me a little uncomfortable, but he was very nice. I think the server ripped us off on our Sharing Spree, but I won't hold that against the restaurant. If you're in the mood for some good Italian, it's worth your money! (Although, I'd suggest avoiding the seafood risotto- it wasn't quite what I thought it'd be.)

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
