If I want to go to a shared plate restaurant and have good food and conversation with my guests, I want something more casual. Somewhere where I'm not asked "sparkling or flat water?" Upon arrival.. "Water. Just regular water, thanks." Shared-plate restaurants are supposed to be warm and welcoming... This just felt overdone and pretentious. The food was okay. We had the Brussels sprouts, sausage, and cauliflower... Not bad, but not anything I'd go out of my way to eat again.

What a find! This place is terrific - very hip vibe - decor modern retro (think Mad Men) - perfect music for the space (Sinatra and friends, jazz, etc.) The well designed room makes It is a great place to go with a group, a date or even alone. The food and service was perfect. We shared several of their front page of starters and it made for a fun and interesting meal. Each one was divine. We never got to the entrees, but if the small plates and desserts are an indication, they will be wonderful. Kudos to the chef and wait staff. I will definitely be back!!

What a nice surprise! Great food and incredibly nice and helpful staff. Make sure you don't leave without trying the cheesecake beignets, wow.

Happy hour is the way to go, 1/2 price signature cocktails and small plates, had the 2 smoking barrels peated Irish whiskey cocktail, if you like peaty scotch you'll love this drink, and at happy hour is only $5, also ordered pork belly and crab cakes, expensive outside of happy hour but only $14 for both combined during happy hour and worth every penny, classy decoration, friendly staff, first time here but I like it so far!

Went on a Sunday night and it was enjoyable. Out of several things... maybe because the small plates are actually LARGE. Nothing really blew us away about the place but nothing was an abrupt disruption of an enjoyable meal either. We would go back.
(3)Sid N.
Excellent cocktails, delicious food, and great ambiance. We ordered the small plates and loved every single one of them: Kentucky Rose Cheese, Fries, Escargot, Cauliflower, Broccoli, Crispy Duck. Every one was excellent! Prices are reasonable - $30 per person for drinks and small plates. The staff were very attentive without being obsequious. Perfect place for a date night or hanging out with friends.
(5)Vivian H.
The food is overpriced and the portions are too small when you talk about "large plates". A friend of mine ordered a hanger steak and it was more fries with a bit of steak. I expected a speak but a few tiny slices of meat! The bottle we ordered disappeared and the waiter was not very attentive. Too expensive for what is offered. You feel a bit ripped off when you walk away. Too pricey.

I'm not sure this place is real. Maybe we stumbled onto a Nashville set. The servers were super nice, entertaining and helpful. Like the magic mikes of serving, but with clothes. The drink menu was creative and adventurous and executed to perfection (they are now tied for second for me in Nashville along with SILO, both behind Patterson). And the food was impeccable. Rich but not heavy. There's a lot of love going into what they do at Union Common. I hope it continues. I'll be back.
(5)Adam M.
The food was fine. The price was a little overpriced but not a deal breaker. But the service was boring and environment boring-er. Tried too hard to be "professional" and came off as stiff. Highly doubt I'd go again simply because it lacked personality. Again, food was fine. Just about fell asleep over dinner though.

Ate here with a party of 8 last Saturday and had a fantastic time! The vibe and decor is a perfect addition to midtown. Highlights were the Cauliflower small plate, Filet and Cheesecake Beignets. Also love that vegetarian and gluten free dishes are clearly marked on the menu. This place is a sharing concept - our group had a fun time tasting lots of different things. Cocktails were great - Kitty's Got Claws was a fave. Davy Jones is a tremendous bartender!! We will definitely be back.

100% obsessed! I took my fiancé here for his birthday and we loved it. Neither of us had been before but from the looks of the menu, I knew it would be great. When we were sat at the table we were greeted right away from Raphael (?). He welcomed us and offered us something to drink. He was perfect. He definitely set the mood of the restaurant and for our dining experience. Next we ordered some wine and cocktails. Our server was Brooks. He was very helpful in going through the menu and explaining the concept of sharing . I loved the idea of getting many items and trying them all. I know my fiancé does because I always end up eating whatever he orders. Anyways we ordered: -kale salad -brussels spouts -cauliflower -crab cakes -hangar steak w/frites -cheesecake beignets I would 100% order every again except for maybe the beignets. They were great but just a tad to sweet for me. So go try it out. The menu is large, the portions are large, and the service is great. I promise you won't be disappointed. Tip: valet because parking is complicated

Went there for dinner on a Saturday night. Bar looked very busy. Service was lousy. Restaurant was very loud. Food was VERY expensive, and below average. Bill without any alcohol for two people was $120...outrageous. I would not suggest going, unless you are going there to drink at happy hour.

First timer to Union Common and the wait staff was amazing. The dining room was loud but not unbearable like other places. But it does have larger table options including 8+ booths and circle table. Wild boar sausage dish is was a good mix of forest like flavors and even my husband liked the asparagus. My main course was amazing- the Filet melted in my mouth and the accompanying mushrooms added intense additional flavor.

My husband and I have had two wonderful experiences within the last few weeks at Union Common. The atmosphere is great and the service excellent. So far we have had the sea scallops (they are Devine), the hanger steak, and the seared yellow fin tuna. All cooked beautifully and the sides were amazing as well (beets, fried oyster Caesar, masa shrimp). Leave room for desert because the apple crisp should not be missed!
(4)Janet S.
Strange location, strange name, lots of bourbon - I opted for a dirty martini and the bartender nailed it perfectly for my taste buds. A nice and unpretentious fellow. Small plate food - our friends ordered and ate - we just looked on. Perhaps next time. The desserts sounded delicious. Would I cross town to go here, methinks not but if in the area then would stop for that dirty martini. Very quiet on a Sunday night
(3)Kenny D.
What an amazing experience. These guys totally took care of everything for my finances birthday. Cut and served the cake, produced amazing food, made sure if anyone need anything they had it. Dinner was amazing from start to finish. Drinks were great. We will most definitely be back. Thanks for an amazing night. We couldn't have asked for better service.

Union common is a great place for a foodie! It's setup for everyone to share just about every plate and try many different things to widen the palate. The wine list is quite lengthy but man is there some good stuff on there! The wine glasses are also very cool..I'm thinking about grabbing a few for my mom! We had the Flaherty Cabernet Sauvignon. Let it breath for a second and you will not be disappointed! My family and I tried the Sweetbreads and the bone marrow as an appetizer. The sweetbreads have excellent flavor. The after texture isn't for everyone, but the flavors are on point. The bone marrow was very surprising! It's served with little toasted breadpoints which complement the marrow magnificently. For the entrees we had the broccolini, smashed fingerling potatoes, oysters, and the 32oz ribeye. The broccolini had golden raisins and walnuts which were perfect complements with both taste and texture. The fingerling potatoes were fried to perfection! Great crisp texture. The oysters were the best oysters I've ever had. They fly them in fresh everyday or every other day depending on the situation. The combination of sauce, lemon, horseradish, and the cracker just made it that much better! The 32 oz ribeye was excellent! They actually made it half mid rare half medium which is very hard to do! It has a great crisp texture on the outside with a juicy tender inside. Last but not least is the banana foster. My dad is an ice cream fanatic and even as picky as he is he mentioned that it was one of the best fosters he's every had!

Looking for a nice evening out that was close to our hotel in Midtown, and made reservations here after a good rec from a friend. Reasonably priced drinks and great menu variety. We tried the bone marrow, broccolini, crab cakes and pork belly small plates. And the small plates were not so small! Great price for the portions served. Husband had to try the ribeye, which was ok. Great spot for romantic evening or night out with friends. Great location, we walked from out hotel and afterward continued our walk to nearby bars to finish the evening. Will return!

In the middle of June 2015, I took my father to Union Common for his birthday. The restaurant has a nice look, and overall the atmosphere is pretty good. The menu and prices are right along par with the Palm, Bob's Steakhouse, and Kayne Prime, so for Nashville this is an expensive restaurant, and I was ready for that going in. The problem that I had with Union Common was the service. Over the course of our meal we had 3 separate servers. 1 sever explained the menu, and took our drink orders, later a new server came to our table and took our orders, and while we were eating a 3rd server checked on us and brought our check. When the 1st server explained the menu, he made a point of mentioning that they had several bone-in steak options. These steaks were all much more expensive than the other steaks on the menu. For example the bone-in filet was $95. This server told us that what we might want to do is split one of there bone-in steaks. We asked if it would be enough food for us to feel satisfied if my father and I were to split just one steak, and our server laughed and said "Oh yes, the bone-in steaks are huge." So that is what my father and I did. We split a bone-in steak that cost more than $100. We enjoyed our apps and wine, but when our steak arrived at the table, it had already been cut and the meat had been pulled off the bone. That was strange as generally at a restaurant I like to cut my own food, but what was more troubling was that there simply wasn't very much steak. There was probably enough steak for one person, but not nearly enough steak for my father and I to split. When server #2 came back to the table I told him that we were told that the bone-in steaks were bigger than the regular ones and we were concerned that the amount of steak we were given would not be enough for my father and I to share. Our server asked "Who told you the bone-in steaks were big enough to share? Maybe a couple could share one, but not 2 grown men." We explained exactly what our first server told us about the bone-in steaks, and server #2 said "Oh, well I wouldn't have told you that. If you would like you can order another steak." My father and I declined that generous offer. This is a nice place, and I am sure that many people have had good experiences dining at Union Common, but when I go to a nicer steak house, spend $200+ on a meal, I don't want to leave that restaurant hungry. In short I wouldn't necessarily warn people not to go to Union Common, but I don't have any intention of going back there. I would recommend The Southern, Kayne Prime, Bob's or even Morton's before I would Union Common.
(1)Carly B.
Fun concept with small plates to share, but crazy overpriced. Missed opportunity by not utilizing tables with lazy susan's for easier sharing. Hamburger comes with tiny, adorable, personal ketchup bottle.
(2)Rob W.
Just a great meal. Small plates for sharing and for those like me who can't decide. Crispy Duck, Oysters, Pecan Salad with Blue Cheese Gelato, and Lamb Chops were all fantastic. Cheesecake Beignets were delicious. Outstanding service and good bourbon list! Definitely will be visiting again.

Union Common, located in Midtown, was not on my radar whatsoever... and they've been open for two months! We called Union Common, and they set a reservation for us in 30 minutes, perfect time to get downtown from where we were. We valeted my car at the restaurant and walked into the space. It had a real art deco vibe to me, from the decor to the menus. It wasn't jam-packed with people, which surprised us at first, so we didn't know what to expect. My friends ordered cocktails (which were good, but had a bit too much ice!) and we perused the menu. There are LOTS of shareables on the menu, which was great for our foodie crew. My pals are more adventurous than I am, so it made for a really great experience for this junior foodie! We decided to order a few small plates to start. First up was one of my favorites of the whole meal, the Crispy Duck. The duck was nestled on polenta and parmesan with some delicious cornbread crackling. I really, really enjoyed this dish. There was lots of crunch and flavor. We scraped the dish clean! The other starter dish we indulged in was Roasted Bone Marrow. It had a pickled garnish on top and was served with mustard and toast. They gave us tiny spoons that were very helpful in scooping the marrow out of the bone. It was excellent! Bone marrow might sound icky, but if you're a meat-lover, this is just a truly awesome thing to try. For our main dish, we ordered the smaller Dry-Aged Ribeye, which is supposedly aged 50 days. We had it medium-rare, and they served it for us as medallions so we could share more easily. It was very good. In fact, my friend said that the meal was better than Kayne Prime, a Nashville steakhouse I've got on my wishlist. For our sides, we ordered the Lamb Sausage and Brussels Sprouts. I do not like lamb, but I did try the asparagus. Not bad! The Brussels Sprouts were great. It seems everyone in Nashville is doing their take on Brussels Sprouts (it's the new fried pickles, I suppose), and this one had pork belly (!), parmesan, pine nuts, and sorghum. Sorghum is another thing I'm seeing all over Nashville menus! It's the new molasses. On impulse, we also ordered ANOTHER small plate: Nashville Hot Sweetbreads. They came fried, like popcorn chicken, with a great buttermilk dressing. Yup, I tasted some offal! And honestly, this batch tasted like Buffalo chicken fried sweetbreads, in a really great way. My friend told me the texture was still similar to other sweetbreads she'd had, so I felt particularly proud to indulge. While my friends are savory fans, I saved some room for something sweet. I chose the Banana Foster Bread Pudding, because I am on a bread pudding ROLL lately. It was served with a bourbon whiskey ice cream, which was a great complement to the dish. Everyone tried some! Overall, I've got to say that Union Common really hits the nail on the head for excellent food, and tons of options. Our table of three had four cocktails, an entree, five small plates, and a dessert, and I know the check split was around $65 each. Excellent, right? The small plates range in price around $6-15, and the entrees are on the higher end. There are some very high-price steak options too, but we loved the variety we got by sharing. I sincerely hope I get a chance to come back, as the service was great to boot!

I probably should've written a review after my second experience here, it would've been much better than this last experience. My first two times I dined at the bar and snacked on their small plates. Highlights were the basket of crab cakes and the unique pecan salad featuring bleu cheese ice cream. The roasted cauliflower is also good, but a teeny bit too salty. Excellent wine selection and drinks. Cheese cake bites dessert is also a winner here. The bartender was very nice and knowledgable. Now, for the low parts. The valet is a cluster F. Both times we've had to wait and wait. On our last visit on Valentine's we were sitting out there for 10 minutes with about 5 cars just sitting in the middle of the street. Had to call the hostess stand to tell them we were late. Manager ended up coming out and getting things moving again. Although they had 3 valets, no one was in sight. It is a mess and needs to be addressed. Once we were seated for our Valentine's dinner, the service seemed inexperienced and haphazard. They just didn't measure up to servers at other fine establishments in Nashville. We split the caesar salad which had virtually no dressing and was completely overpriced. My husband and I both ordered filets and the food runner mixed them up and we didn't realize it until my husband had eaten 1/4 of it. Once we switched, it didn't make a damn bit of difference of how it was cooked, the flavoring was just awful. It smelled like a pot roast and tasted like it, too. While tender, the meat lacked the buttery/salt smoke flavor you expect out of a steak. I sent mine back and didn't want a replacement. The manager was completely arrogant. He came over and said it was no problem to remake the steak. I said it was fine, I would just eat the side scallops we had ordered. I was really turned off at this point. He then said "Well you in a hurry?" Our server just smiled and acted like nothing was wrong. She never asked us how are steaks were after they were delivered, and we had to flag her down once we realized the mix up. Oh, and by the way, the scallops were not fully cooked either. Nicely browned on top, but virtually raw throughout. Overpriced for the lack of quality and arrogant, awkward service. Will not return.

Exceptional menu, both food and drinks! Try the fried Crab cakes, Cheesecake bengiets, and the Rich Girl cocktail. The servers are amazing. Very classy place!

Trekked over to Union Common for a happy hour with a colleague... happy I did! Great ambiance, although super quiet on a weekday at 5 p.m. at open. We were the only patrons for about 45 minutes or so. The menu looked incredible, alas we settled for drinks only--which didn't disappoint in the slightest. I chose the Kitty Has Claws--a spicy-but-sweet, carbonated, tequila-centric situation... really potent (as it should be for $11 or so), tasty. My friend had a beer--sorry, cannot for the life of me remember which. Adam Bomb, perhaps? Definitely worth putting on the "Must Visit" list for foodies... like I said, it's important to realize this is a pricier option for dining in Nashville, but the atmosphere is just too cool to pass up. Oh yeah--the head bartender Davy Jones is apparently some sort of legend... I read way too many yelp reviews before going and knew instantly who he was. Kinda creepy, right? Yeah... it is.

Okay, I've just found the best food in Nashville after five years of dining in Nashville's great restaurants, this one just moved to top of my list! Finally had dinner there tonight after meaning to for months and now I'm sorry I delayed. From beginning to end, it was perfection. Starting with the Gouda cheese with toast, which was delicious and just the right portion, then the yellowfin tuna, which was fresh and cooked rare to perfection. Our server, Ryan, was excellent. Didn't hover but was there immediately every time we needed anything. And just when I thought that the tuna couldn't be topped, Ryan brought out the cheesecake beignets Dont leave without experiencing these little jewels of the devil. I'm now trying to come up with an excuse not to have them again tomorrow. Union Common, I hope you and I have just started a long history together.

This place would be perfect for a Great Gatsby party! Very classy and sleek, with valet parking. We went at happy hour for half priced drinks and small plates. Loved the Gouda plate and mini crab cakes!
(5)Jessica W.
Nice place, TOO expensive for the small plates we got. We left hungry & got 2 small plates each. We love good quality food, but this wasn't worth it. The environment is modern glam black/gold, but has a sterile feeling that I didn't really care for. There's a more modern vibe rather than local feel...its also not locally owned. Also, parking is horrible in this area. I doubt we'll be going back anytime soon.

My wife and I are here last night and for the most part had a great experience after a bad start with the Valet. It was pouring down rain and the Valet did not assist us with our doors, an umbrella, or let us in a door they were standing under to stay dry. They just stood there watching us get out of our car and we got soaked. Once I inside we let the hostess know and a manager immediately addresses the valets and got them umbrellas. Hopefully know one else had the experience we did and I don't hold UC accountable, but this is the only reason I don't give five stars. The staff was very apologetic about the Valet issue and took exceptional care of us from start to finish. After visiting the restroom to try and dry off we were sat at our table and the night got better as we started exploring the menu and extensive wine list. We started with a nice glass of Malbec and a Cabernet that was recommended by the manager and they were both very good. We tried the BBQ Shrimp small plate which was outstanding and very large (12 large pieces). Next we ordered the filet, fingerling potatoes which came with an amazing secret dipping sauce, and sea scallops. The filet was pre-cut and cooked to perfection. It was so tender we didn't need a knife and could cut it with a fork. The scallops were cooked to perfect with a nice crisp top and graininess at all. The only downside here was the tomato based sauce which neither I enjoyed, but that was our personal preference. The scallops were perfect. SAVE THE BEST FOR LAST For dessert we ordered the cheesecake balls which my wife and I agrees wS the best dessert either of us have ever enjoyed anywhere in the country. A definitive must if you like cheesecake. I am sure the manager got the Valet issue worked out so I would put UC up there with Etch and Moto as one of the best restaurants in Nashville although it was not cheap. $176 after a 20% tip for the two of us, but it was amazing even if we were cold and wet during our meal.

Didn't have a great experience overall.

Goodness gracious, I don't even know what to say! This place is ah-mazing! I visited for dinner this evening and was immediately taken by the Art Deco decor and Big Band music. The staff is ridiculously friendly.....all of them....crazy friendly. We ate a lot of food, and all of it was great. Between us, we had the tuna, lobster, burger, shrimp cocktail, fries, Brussels sprouts, and cauliflower. All of it was fantastic! The craft brew and general booze selection is fantastic. The small plates are definitely sharable sized. Is this place a little pricey? Maybe a little if you're going the steak route, but otherwise, I found the prices to be totally in line with any upscale chain restaurant. I short, my whole experience was awesome, and I Don't have one negative thing to say!
(5)Daniel S.
Nice upscale atmosphere with a solid menu and good service. We had a group of 7 for a work dinner, and I was pleased with the level if attention we received. The menu has an array of meat and seafood options and everyone at out table complimented their entrees. The small plates varied in size, but all had good flavor. I recommend the brussel sprouts and the duck fat fries. Overall a nice experience with a "downtown" vibe in trendy midtown.

I was SO excited for Union Common to open up, and I was super excited to try it out for the first time, Sadly, I won't ever go back. First off - I must admit - the place is gorgeous. It's amazing to see what they've turned the old Great Escape into. It was so refreshing to see a place not overrun with hipster douchbaggery (e.g., exposed wood, archaic lighting, bartenders with mustaches and aprons). Its a shame that they can't get much anything else figured out. I ordered the steak, and my wife ordered the salmon. We had a couple of drinks and appetizers and waited patiently for our entrees. My steak came out long before the salmon did (even though we ordered them both at the same time) and it was the SALTIEST thing I've ever eaten. I actually got a migraine from all the salt. Seriously - plop $36 down on a table and pour a salt shaker in your mouth, and you can easily recreate the experience we had. Simply awful. We suffered through the steak and waited. And waited. And waited. Finally, almost an hour after we ordered it, the salmon comes out, and it was completely undercooked and raw inside. The manager admitted that we should have been told that their salmon comes out "medium rare" (it's not mentioned on their menu), but he never offered to make it right. They did take the $22 salmon off our bill, but all we got was a simple "We need to work the kinks out - - try us again" from our server. Um, no. So two drinks, a couple of appetizers, and a salt lick set me back $100. Um, no.
(2)Jane R.
Had a good salmon meal with veggies there. The red wine sauce was good, but the veggies were swimming, so half the sauce would have been better and I could have tasted the veggies more. Others at the table had small plates or burgers and all enjoyed their dishes. Atmosphere with jazz music and cool lighting seemed very current.
(4)Jessie M.
We visited on Saturday evening and had a great experience. Service was on point and I think the menu is a nice detour from the many traditional steak houses we have in Nashville. Since the menu was expertly explained to our party by our server (that everything is intended to be shared, including steaks) we navigated the menu and our ordering pretty well. Everything we tasted was delicious and we'll definitely be back.
(4)John S.
We had an excellent meal last weekend. We started with the Shrimp Cocktail and then moved to the main course. Three mains, Salmon, Fillet and the Pork Chop. All were cooked perfectly. Two sides, the mushrooms and the Brussell Sprouts An incredible wine list for a new restaurant. Justin does a great job with the wine. Will definitely return

I dined here with a group of 5 other friends this evening and it was a hit and miss experience. The good: The service. Our server was knowledgeable, would find out what she didn't know, and was attentive. Our table was always clear, we were never lacking for water or any other beverage. The restaurant was described to us as a shared plate concept-- which we were familiar with-- and we ordered a few small plates, a large plate and a steak to share. The desserts were also a highlight-- we really liked the Cheesecake beignets. The bad: The food all came out at the same time. I'm a big fan of eating food when it's hot and in it's most perfect state-- everything except the steak came out at the same time (and we had to ask that they hold the steak or it would have sat on the table forever). Speaking of our steak-- it was lacking serious flavor. It was cooked to our liking (medium rare) but the flavor just wasn't there. They offer all sorts of sauce accouterment but IMO steak shouldn't need a buttery sauce. The OK: The remainder of our dishes were good. Not great, not bad-- just good. Peoples favorites seemed to be the Foraged Mushrooms and the Crispy Duck. Much everything else was unremarkable. I'm in Nashville every few months and love trying new places-- I also love to eat food that feels inspired-- my guess is that I won't return as there are so many really amazing restaurants in town now. Tidbits: Valet is $3, lighting is nice, design is clean and sophisticated-- but approachable, and the location is great.

Union Common is after addition to the area. Great beer and wine menu. Davey at the bar will take care of you and really knows his stuff when it comes to beer and spirits. Highly recommend the sweetbreads, cauliflower, and oysters. This is a hidden gem and will be huge when the word spreads.
(5)Bridgette C.
I am loving this new little gem in Midtown. It somehow manages to feel like a really high-class place and yet also a dash of speakeasy. Could be the amazing drinks. The dark intimate décor. Whatever it is this place is a great edition to the Midtown scene. You can enjoy everything from scallops and risotto to their classed up, and much much better, take on a Big Mac. There's something for every person here, whether you're a foodie or have been dragged out by one. Their steaks were absolutely incredible as well and this is one of those places that makes brussel sprouts that, has I eaten them as a child, I would have easily enjoyed my veggies. Great service, great food, great atmosphere. Even if you don't have time to sit and enjoy a meal (and I recommend you do) sit at their amazing bar for a stellar libation and enjoy their fantastic and playful desserts. It's a great night out, honestly. I'd recommend reservations (also, its a smaller space and can get loud when crowded, not really a big deal though), and they have valet (something else I recommend with Midtown parking) and a coat check for colder months. Welcome to Midtown Union Common, please stay a while. You are such a better use of space than whatever horrible gas station place used to be there.
(5)Chris A.
I went there with my sister, and best friend, and we are all foodie people. We were disappointed with what we ordered. We started out with the Midtown Chilled Seafood platter. The lump crab was dried, and didn't taste fresh. The Maine Lobster tail left a chemically taste in your mouth. Very disappointed, because it was $75. I had the Sea Scallops with risotto, which was different from what it was stated from the menu. The risotto was extremely salty, but the scallops were nicely done. My sister had the crispy duck with polenta. The crispy duck tasted like dried jerky, and the polenta too was extremely salty. My best fried had the beer battered crab cakes, and it was dried and full of batter. We all shared the Cheesecake Beignet with carmelized pineapple pieces, because the waitress couldn't stop bragging about.it . Well, I guessed I had higher expectations from the raving review.

Took my girlfriend there for Valentine's Day. We went to Farmhouse last year, which was great, but Union Common may have been even better. The small plates is where it is at - we had: (1) Crispy Chicken in a plantain puree; (2) Fried Cauliflower; and (3) Gouda cheese plate with honey and almonds, and accompanied by toast. I would recommend all three in the order above. I wrestled with either getting the 25-day New York strip or the Burger. I know, why get a burger at a place like Union Common when you can have one at a place like, say, The Pharmacy. Well, the description sounded like a gourmet Big Mac, and our server said it was awesome. However, I was craving a steak, so I went with that. It wasn't your typical steak. Good cut of meat, but it appeared to have been cooked on a salted stove top. I liked it, but I could possible see how someone might think it was too salty. I paired it with the duck-fat french fries, which may have been the best french fries I have ever tasted. It came with some special sauce/aioli, which was killer. The lady had the scallops. I don't eat seafood, but she said they may have been the best scallops she has ever had. Cocktails were fabulous. We each had a bourbon one - the better of the two was their take on an Old Fashioned. Nice bourbon list, although they were out of the W.L. Weller 12. After all the food and two drinks each, with tax, bill was $166.00. A little pricey, but the food was great. Service was top notch as well - our waitress (whose named escapes me), was bubbly, funny, and supper knowledgeable about the menu, and she didn't hesitate to make recommendations with honesty. Supplemental staff support made sure my water glass was full the entire meal. We will definitely be back. If you have a special occasion, try this place out. You could probably just get by on splitting 4-5 small plates as well!

Utterly pretentious. Nice bottle collection. Big selection of wine and spirits. Pleasant bartenders. Great place to impress that date who went out with you because they approved of your car keys. They have food here too and it probably has some kind of taste. I ate some, but... HEY, is that person looking at me? Creep.

Came for desserts. They have the best foster bread pudding!!!! Cheese cake beignets were great! But you can't go wrong with the bread pudding. Had friendly staff and services. They have complementary valet parking. A nice decor place.

Creative dishes, beautiful building inside and out, everything we had was delicious!

People, this place just opened; are they up to speed with staff training and course pacing? of course not, if you can't stand the small stuff wait a month or 2 and then try it. We went in Saturday night and the food was excellent, we had the steak frites, lamb chops 3 appetizers and the walnut salad with blue cheese ice cream. It is a beautiful restaurant, almost feels like you are on a cruise ship in the art deco 1920's. The waitress and sommelier were very good and personable, the support staff around them are new and learning. As the Nashville restaurant scene explodes expect a shortage of highly trained service people, at least until it levels out. Might want to grab a drink before the restaurant and chill out!

Cool concept. However, the food is overpriced for what it is. We asked for more bread for our cheese three different times and it took over 30 minutes to come. It wasn't toasted. Our servers kept switching and one didn't know much about any of the beer offerings. They brought me a different drink than what I ordered. Two of us were leaving early to get to a show and told them this. Still took twenty minutes to pay. Someone at another table ordered something that smelled so terrible everyone at my table almost lost their appetite. Not impressed at all.

First time in and ate at the bar. First, Davy behind the bar was great. Knowledgeable, great bartender who was very personable and welcoming...that was the highlight of the night. Had Olive appetizer (B), duck fat fries (A-) and I got the NY Strip for entree (D+). It was just a bad cut, period. For $38 a la carte I was expecting a LOT better. Lots of excess fat that was inedible. I also found the rub to be very salty...way too much for my tastes. I don't consider Nashville a great town for high-end steakhouses, but there are at least 3-4 other places in town that would have brought out a way better cut of meat. I'd definitely meet friends out here for drinks as the bar and interior have a great vibe, and I'll probably give the food one more shot; but for the price point, there are currently a lot better options in town.

Beyond amazing. Be sure to get the brussel sprouts and cheesecake beignets!

Love Love Love!!! Such a great atmosphere with windows on 3 sides of the restaurant - it makes for a great time sitting at the bar - every seat has a view! You will have to valet park, but so does everywhere else in Midtown. Happy Hour everyday 5pm - 7pm and a whiskey happy hour on Saturday. Also half price small plates so if you want a great dinner for half price, this is the place. They have about 15 choices for small plates including crab cakes, pork belly, shaved kale, escargot, crispy duck, duck fat fries...and those were just the ones I have tried. Delicous! The dinner itself when we ate was just wonderful. Attentive wait staff, made good recommendations based on what we liked to eat, the burger is their gourmet version of a Big Mac - holy smokes it was awesome!!!! Dessert is also a huge draw - the bread pudding is out of this world! I loved this place for its approachability, ambience, bar atmosphere, drink selection, quality of food, and pricing. Will definitely be recommending to friends coming to visit in town.

My wife and I went this past Saturday to celebrate our 11th wedding anniversary. We love steak and we've been to all the best places (and some not so great) around here - Kayne, Cork & Cow, Fleming's, Bob's, down to Stoney River. First, the good - the service was great. The front desk, the manager, our waitress, everybody was great. They checked in on us the "right amount", not too much, not too little. Before dinner we had some drinks at our table and some small plates as apps. I had a sazerac and an old fashioned, and my wife had wine. I have to say the sazerac was great, and I have sadly had too many that were terrible at some otherwise good restaurants (Bob's was the worst). So, I think they know what they're doing back there. The small plates we had were the fried cauliflower and the wild boar sausage. Both were great. Now, the bad - for our entrees I had the 50-day dry-aged 1-lb ribeye and my wife had the 12 oz 25-day dry aged NY strip. We were very underwhelmed. My steak was pre-cut and laid out end-to-end on the plate, which seems crazy to me (although they do show this on the website). I could see a reason to do it - so it doesn't continue to cook over the desired temp, but it made me feel like I was eating off the kids' menu and it made the whole steak get cold faster. By the time I got to the end it was completely cool. My wife's strip was very tough, much more than others we've had around town that were done to the same level (med well, sadly). This might not have been the worst thing if the prices we were paying weren't on-par with the nicest places in town ($65 for my ribeye and $38 for the strip). We also had the grilled brussel sprouts and fingerling potatoes with chorizo and queso as sides, and they were both great. So, with drinks, food, and tip we spent $300. The only place I've spent that before was Kayne Prime, and it was worth it there. Here, it was not, because the "star of the show" (the steak) was not worth it. My wife and I both said we would go back and try other dishes (pork chop, "Union Mac" burger), but not the steak again. Which also means we wouldn't have the apps and sides. We'd have the burger and fries, or one side with each dish, and maybe one drink. If we got out for $100-150 including tip I would feel okay with that. Also, the environment was a lot more casual than I expected. There were ladies in shorts, guys in jeans and hats, and a bachelorette party right next to us. Not saying that was bad, it was just more casual than I expected.

Birthday celebration for a small group. We went there because honestly, I couldn't get a reservation at my first several choices. Thank goodness this place was new and had the availability. I may not get that lucky again when word gets out. I love the small plates concept in general and they perfected it. The least favorite was the baked cheese appetizer and most favorite was the mushrooms. We also thoroughly enjoyed the barbecue shrimp and center cut filet. Even the entrees were served for sharing. Drinks were delicious and the service impeccable. Kudos. Wonderful dinner experience.

My wife and I tried Union Common for dinner, and we had a pretty good experience. On the plus side, the atmosphere and Art Deco decor is awesome and a nice change of pace from some of the other new places in town. We had a couple of the small plates, and the brussel sprouts with the pork bellies were really good (and would order again) and the crispy duck with the polenta was tasty as well. On the negative side, I did not like the menus. They feel like about the cheapest plastic they could find, and while that's totally fine for a lot of places, I feel like any restaurant that has a $95 steak on it ought to have a nicer menu. It made the place feel a little cheap. Also, the service was definitely still ironing out the kinks. They did not have enough of the menus when we arrived, my wife had water poured in her ginger ale glass, and the carbonation was way off on another one of our drinks. Overall, we'd try it again after they've had time to work out some kinks.

We had an 8:30 reservation and were seated at 9:30. Food was mediocre. Seafood was awful. I agree with another reviewer below: they are doing something odd to the lobster tails (heaps of butter and something else) Or, as the other reviewer suggested, they are getting the lobster that way, which is worse. Take it off the menu. I need to just add that this is a very poorly designed restaurant. We were grateful to have a seat at the bar while we waited for our table. Those standing around the bar on either side, though, had no choice but to block all traffic. Some of the staff, I noticed, actually went outside and around the place just to avoid the traffic, or perhaps to avoid the disgruntled customers who were waiting for tables. I am from NYC originally, so I am used to crowded bars and restaurants, but I think they have structured this big place so that it seems crowded in the front. While this makes the restaurant seem happening from the outside, insiders who experience the layout cannot help but feel a bit as though they are being put in the way of others for no real good reason. Rearrange the space before the bar, including the huge host station, and/or, if they have the money, shift the location of the bar and narrow the space inside the bar. Problem solved.

I came here with a bachelorette party and our group of 13 sat at the bar and had an amazing experience. The food was delicious. I had the Gouda (yummy... But that's just cheese), masa shrimp (very tasty), and the center cut filet (so tender and perfectly cooked). The bartender, Davy Jones, was great. Even with such a big group (not to mention the rest of the customers at the bar), he was attentive and gave advice we when asked for help deciding.

We moved to Nashville from a huge foodie town and have found a handful of places here that we absolutely love. Union Common is one of those. I'm baffled as to why it's so easy to get a reservation compared to other places with relatively mediocre fare. The service has been outstanding, as has everything we've ever ordered. The scallops were perfectly cooked (and said foodie town was coastal, so we're pretty critical about seafood), the crab cake bites a perfect blend of crabmeat and breadcrumb, and the cheesecake bites...well...I never thought I would order such a thing, and I never thought I would like them so much. Our waiter raved about the pecan salad, but I have to confess the bleu cheese gelato accompanying it really wasn't my thing. The apple crisp with a funnel cake base also was just sort of meh. However, on the whole, I'm not sure why this place isn't jam-packed, and we wouldn't hesitate to bring anyone here.

Went out to dinner last night at Union Common, its been open approximately 3 months. They have an extensive drink menu with some unique drinks and some really good bourbons. Wife got a rum riot and I had a willet pot reserve on rocks. The pecan salad had a unique twist to it, as it had a scoop of comfy cow bleu cheese ice cream sitting in the middle of the mixed greens/pecans/pears. I would never have thought to A) put bleu cheese in ice cream and B) put it on a salad. That said, it worked and was delicious. We split the chilled seafood platter that was a mix of oysters, shrimp, lobster, smoked mussels, and crab meat. With 5 different home made sauces and dips such as their own hot sauce, horseradish blend, aioli dip, clarified butter. It was delicious and attractively set up on platter of ice and seaweed (or thats what I thought it was anyway). We finished with a bread pudding with bourbon ice cream on top. It was one of the more expensive places we've been to in town, more of a special occasion type venue. Great decor and valet parking (you will need to use the valet as parking is limited there).
